James 5

Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you.

Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten.

Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter.

Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.

Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

  1. 5:12
Impatience in time of frial is also manifested in swearing. Here it is not a question of profanity, or cursing, primarily . Neither is it a matter of taking a oath in a count of law . The practice forbidden is the thoughtless use of the Lord’s ame or some other name to attest the truthfulness of one’s speech . The Christian should not have to sacar by anyone or anything ,either in heaven or on earth . Those who know Him should able to depend on the fact that his “ yes “ means “ yes” and his “ no” means “ no”.

  2. So much in such a short chapter this morning. The beginning of this chapter in the NLT says “Destroying Your Life from Within”. We cannot afford to be greedy, do not exploit or cheat anyone, don’t complain about each other, don’t add words and don’t show impatience because these things can destroy your life from within. The second half of this chapter is captioned with the answer to all “Prayer to Be Reckoned With”. Verses 13-15 MSG “Are you hurting? Pray. Do you feel great? Sing. Are you sick? Call the church leaders together to pray and anoint you with oil in the name of the Master. Believing-prayer will heal you, and Jesus will put you on your feet. And if you’ve sinned, you’ll be forgiven—healed inside and out.”

Verses 19-20 MSG “My dear friends, if you know people who have wandered off from God’s truth, don’t write them off. Go after them. Get them back and you will have rescued precious lives from destruction and prevented an epidemic of wandering away from God.” Let’s keep going after them POFW!

  3. Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Oh My, it is the responsibility of all of us to do this, and as I was reading this in KJV and my Hubby read it in NLT, about 5 names popped in my head. That is the passion of this church, I’m telling you! If you want to backslide you might have to go off the grid, because POFW is coming, we will come to your house, your Job, but why? Why is it so important to us that you or I come back? Because when we are gone something is missing, each one of us add something special to the body of Christ! We dont want to see our Brother or Sister lost, We all have that special something, we are a nice size church, with a nice size body of beleivers, but Pastor knows before he gets the attendance report who is here and who is not, averaginging about 300+ beleivers and Pastor knows all of us by name, he knows our faces, not because he looks at a sheet of paper, but because he loves us, and he prays for us! And when we are not there, Him and Sister Watts are coming, not to condemn or chastise, but to pour some love on you and to pour some Jesus in you! That’s passion, so why do they find us when we are gone, why do they call us. why do they send us cards in the mail, PASSION, LOVE, AND ABOVE ALL JESUS!

  4. Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.
    James 5:16 NLT
This confused me at first, but then I read it again and then again. In this verse it definitely is saying that we need to confess everything to one another. There is power in unified prayer. God can’t move in our life if we are holding on to that one little thing that keeps the world in us. God doesn’t want us to be of this world; he wants us to be of His Kingdom and to glory in the righteousness of knowing that there is eternal life and riches waiting for us. “So what is holding you back”, speaking to myself. The only thing that can hold you back “FLESH!” The flesh has to be put aside; worldly things have to disappear. My thoughts have to be on the Kingdom and God’s word. Everyday my flesh has to die or I will seek things of this world. It is my nature; I am human, but that is no excuse. Human or spirit: it has to be of God or I need to depart from His glory.
My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.
    James 5:19‭-‬20 NLT
All that has to be done; can be done. What am I doing to win souls. How can I be apart of the soul winning army. It’s actually not hard; trust in God to lead the souls to me. Those that want to be saved will come to us. Sometimes we may have to seek them out, but it is always God that show them to us.
You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name.
    John 15:16 NLT
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
Acts of the Apostles 1:8 NLT
The seeds of good deeds become a tree of life; a wise person wins friends.
    Proverbs 11:30 NLT
Even though I am a free man with no master, I have become a slave to all people to bring many to Christ. When I was with the Jews, I lived like a Jew to bring the Jews to Christ. When I was with those who follow the Jewish law, I too lived under that law. Even though I am not subject to the law, I did this so I could bring to Christ those who are under the law. When I am with the Gentiles who do not follow the Jewish law, I too live apart from that law so I can bring them to Christ. But I do not ignore the law of God; I obey the law of Christ. When I am with those who are weak, I share their weakness, for I want to bring the weak to Christ. Yes, I try to find common ground with everyone, doing everything I can to save some. I do everything to spread the Good News and share in its blessings.

  5. 16. So own up to your sins to one another and pray for one another. In the end, you may be healed. Your prayers are powerful when they are rooted in a righteous life.

    17. Remember Elijah? He was a man, no different from us. He prayed with great intensity asking God to withhold the rain; God answered his prayers and did not allow a single drop of rain to fall for three and a half years. Voice

Not everyone is called to be a preacher to stand behind the pulpit and deliver great sermons like we hear from Pastor and many others that he invites, but everyone can pray. These great men we hear preaching are no different from us…so why does God seem to answer their prayers more often, you ask? It’s likely they devote more effort into rooting their prayers in a righteous life, and the faith to see your prayers answered is like a muscle – the more you use it, the stronger it gets.

    • Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you. Your wealth is rotting away, and your fine clothes are moth-eaten rags. Your gold and silver are corroded. The very wealth you were counting on will eat away your flesh like fire. This corroded treasure you have hoarded will testify against you on the day of judgment. Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen.
      James 5:1‭-‬3‭, ‬7 NLT
The things of this earth with soon pass away the the things of God won’t.

  6. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.
We as a church the body of Christ should be helping one another. When one falls into sin and walks away instead of talking about them and running them down we should lead a helping hand to help them get up.
For we all have sinned and fallen short of God. No one is perfect. We you or I want a helping hand to help us when we fall? Then we must put the word into action where it says do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Today! Let us be looking for someone we could help.
Pray that God would lead you to that hurting person.

  7. James 5:8 -9 [Amp] So that you also must be patient Extablish your hearts [ strengthen and confirm them in the final certainly]. For the coming of the Lord is very near. But nobody knows the day or the hour . [9] Do not complain, brethren against one another, so that you [ yourselves] may not be judged . Look ! The Judge is [ already] standing at the very door. Confess to one another, Don’t be judgemental to any one. Pray that there heart’s and minds will be restored [ to a spiritual tone of the mind and heart. Prayer and Patience is the key word for today. Remember what God brought you out of. He can do the same to others. The Lord is full of compassion and tenderness and mercy for all of us. Pray and Fast for this world !

  8. 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Prayer, prayer, prayer. It works and it’s powerful! All you need is a little bit of faith!

  9. From this chapter I learned that sometimes we just have to be patient. If you ask for something from God and you have not got it, don’t get mad and keep begging just be patient. God knows exactly what you want beacause you prayed for it. God also knows when it’s the right time for you to get that something that you prayed for. Sometimes when you bring for the wrong cause God might not want to give it to you. But if you’re praying for the right cause he might give it to you. If I am praying for example for $1000 I might not get that because it might not be for the right cause . But if I’m praying for $1000 to pay off the bills at the church then I most likely make it. We shouldn’t bag from God he is our Lord and Savior and is here for mighty and grateful things. BE PATIENT POFW!! GOD KNOWS!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁👍🏾

  10. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;
20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Outreach is more than just getting people to come to church, it is reaching the depths of hell where most of them are headed and pulling people out to let God set them free. The more we understand this, the deeper the passion should be for reaching the lost.

  11. 5 You have spent your years on earth in luxury, satisfying your every desire. You have fattened yourselves for the day of slaughter.

Many who become rich fall into a sense of security, peace, and no worries. Believing money has solved all their problems. They feed their flesh daily with luxury items, food and pleasure. With their hearts filled with content, they have no feeling for others, or to give. Spiritually, they have become stagnant.

There is nothing wrong with being rich, just don’t forget to give, praise and worship God, as you once did prior to getting rich.

  12. 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

    Jesus is the answer.

The Love of Jesus is so powerful that a sinner, can be saved. And, since He lives in us, we can share His love to all those around us. First the Kingdom of God. Share the love of Christ.

  13. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

I feel that many people in the church need to be honest with themselves because we know scripture tells us that the truth shall set us free. When we bind together as a body of believers, there should not be anything that hinder us from praying the power of God for each other. We begin to build faith and see God do things that many have not seen. I find that when we have enough faith to agree that God will do it, then we speak authority and dominion to the need and the circumstances that release people from being bound by doubt and fear. Seeking the kingdom first will allow us to get more in depth with God through prayer.

    I love the Kingdom!

  14. iLove the Kingdom in Action

16Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Let’s look at this verse for a moment and think about it. Now, I was praying with someone at the altar the other day. I asked him if God was going to heal him and he said, “Yes, God is going to heal me.” I asked “when is God going to heal you?” He answered, “When He gets ready.” I informed the person that God was ready now and He is waiting for us.

Think about our scripture text today. 15 “And the prayer of faith” shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up… When you are asking for a miracle, you have to believe the “prayer of faith” will make you whole. God gave man the authority to speak in His behalf. It’s not about waiting on God to heal you, it’s about letting God do it right now.

  15. 11: Behold we have count them happy which endure, Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.
    —————
Nothing like coming to the Lord for everething FIRST.
Thank you Lord. For always, always being there for me. This wereched child.

  16. 10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.

When you look at these characters that make up our patriarchs and ministers of old, you find that none of them were perfect by any means. Moses was afraid and stuttered he was disobedient and never got to live in the promise land, Abraham was impatient and had an illegitimate child with a hand made, David was a terrible choice for king on paper, he sent an innocent man to die on the front lines of a war while he laid up in the bed with that mans wife while he died at Davids orders, He led his men into battles that they couldn’t win. Elijah won a great victory for the Lord on Mount Carmel just to run for his life from Jezabel, Paul was murdering Christians, Peter was unfit for the Kingdom in many ways. We have all these great men of God that are our examples in our bible that just were not perfect. They are there as an example that we are not going to be perfect but we can do as they did and fight anyway. We can do anything God asks us to do right where we are. We are not waiting on getting everything right in our lives for God to use us, just look at the bible…God wants to use us just where we are. There is no secret equation or ritual to fulfill. If we could just be willing to do Gods will through our shortcomings, through our afflictions, and with patients then God will use us fo mighty things just as he did with these great prophets, patriarchs, teachers and leaders of old.

  17. 4 Behold, the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth.

You wanna get the Lords attention

Go ahead a cry out they got the Lord attention when they cried out. It says anthe cries which have reaped entered into the ears of the Lord….cry out that prayer unto the Lord and watch God move. He’s on time, and He’s doing great things!

  18. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    THE KEY TO HAPPINESS

11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy.

The carnal mind thinks THE KEY TO HAPPINESS is riches or money, however I have met a few rich people that were as angry and contentious as the poorest man on the street. Money is not THE KEY TO HAPPINESS it simply answers all things.
Ecclesiastes 10:19 … : but money answereth all things.

Many think THE KEY TO HAPPINESS is the top seat in an organization; whether company, church or ministry. The top seat is the most criticized and the most responsible thereby producing the greatest opportunity for criticizing and accusation which lead to unhappiness.

THE KEY TO HAPPINESS is ENDURANCE. “We count them HAPPY that ENDURE”. Being PATIENT with GOD should be the simplest thought pattern that we have. However, it can also be challenging, because we KNOW HIM and we KNOW what HE can DO.

ENDURANCE through PATIENCE is THE KEY TO HAPPINESS. GOD is all knowing and wise, we are Blessed and at Peace when we wait for HIM to work the details.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

  22. 19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him;

20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Do you love your neighbor enough to talk to them about Jesus and show them the error of their ways?

It won’t always be an easy thing to do, but it is necessary for the saving of their soul.

There is a blessing for the one who loves his brother enough to confront him, and who turns him from the error of his way.

  23. “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:13-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

James has the same advice for both the suffering one and the cheerful one: take it all to the Lord. In fact, the two commands could be reversed: sufferers should sing also, and the cheerful should also pray.

  24. 7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.
8 Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh.
9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the judge standeth before the door.

We can get caught up in the cares of life- tasks at work, kids and the home, and the list goes on. But we need the renewing of our minds to remember what is first and foremost-waiting upon the Lord and watching for his return. Distractions come at us on all sides but He calls us precious fruit. It’s not his will that any should perish. First, seek Him and then keep Him your thoughts as you go through the day and it will help you be victorious. The battle is in the mind as Bro D. Morgan preached.

  25. James 5:8-11 NLT

You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. Don’t grumble about each other, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. For look—the Judge is standing at the door! For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. We give great honor to those who endure under suffering. For instance, you know about Job, a man of great endurance. You can see how the Lord was kind to him at the end, for the Lord is full of tenderness and mercy.

  26. James 5:10, “Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience.”

1 Peter 2:20-21 says, ” 20)… but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. 21) For even hereunto were ye called; because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps.”

The prophets and JESUS are our examples of suffering affliction and doing it with patience (the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset).
If the prophets can do it, If JESUS can do it, then We Can Do It!

We need to remember what 2 Cor. 4:17 says, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.”

  27. Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.
    James 5:17‭-‬18 KJV

And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.
    1 Kings 17:1 KJV

And it came to pass after many days, that the word of the Lord came to Elijah in the third year, saying, Go, shew thyself unto Ahab; and I will send rain upon the earth.
…So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, and said to his servant, Go up now, look toward the sea. And he went up, and looked, and said, There is nothing. And he said, Go again seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, Behold, there ariseth a little cloud out of the sea, like a man’s hand. And he said, Go up, say unto Ahab, Prepare thy chariot, and get thee down, that the rain stop thee not.
    1 Kings 18:1, 42‭-‬44 KJV

I found it interesting that James said Elijah prayed earnestly for it not to rain when Scripture does not record this prayer. 1 Kings 17 merely states that Elijah commanded there to be no rain and there was none for 3 ½ years. On the other hand, in Chapter 18, we see Elijah fall to the ground, put his face between his knees and pray repeatedly until God performed his request. Was not the second instance “earnest prayer” rather than the first?

“Prayed earnestly” in the Greek literally translates to “prayed in prayer,” which doesn’t portray the same image as “earnestly praying” does to us today. Moreover, the word translated “prayed” means “to pray or vow,” so Elijah actually “vowed in prayer.” In other words, rather than weeping and crying and begging till sweat poured off his face and his body was limp with exhaustion, Elijah dogmatically and with authority (perhaps with fist raised in air) vowed “It shall not!” …and it didn’t.

We can only assume that Elijah had previously heard from God, and his boldness in this proclamation came from that prior encounter, for there was nothing timid or pleading about this request. Elijah was told what the will of God was, and now he was speaking it into existence by the authority of the Word of God he had heard in prayer.

(By this example, we find that it is a good idea to seek the will of God first, and then to pray that will into being. We would save ourselves much disappointment and pray with much more authority if we knew we were praying the will of God.)

However, for some reason, when it came time to end the drought, Elijah (after clearly being told by God that it would rain) seems to have a different posture in his prayer. Perhaps he lost his boldness because he expected the rain to fall the minute he saw Ahab’s face, and it didn’t. Maybe he thought a deluge would begin as soon as the fire finished consuming the sacrifice on the altar, but it didn’t. Whatever the cause, Elijah seems to be having difficulty commanding it to rain. (We must be careful that we don’t attempt to tell God how and when He should answer our prayers.)

Elijah prayed, and the rain stopped. He prayed, and the barrel of meal and cruse of oil miraculously replenished themselves repeatedly. He prayed (three times), and the widow’s son awoke from the dead. He prayed, and fire fell from heaven. Then, he prayed for rain, and nothing happened. He prayed again, and nothing happened. He prayed again, still nothing.

This is now new territory for Elijah. He knew he was praying the will of God. He knew that God had the power. He knew that God heard him when he prayed, but nothing was happening. He had proclaimed it would happen, and his life and reputation as a prophet were on the line, so he prayed again. Nothing. Did he not just tease the false prophets of Baal by saying their gods must be asleep because they weren’t answering? And here he was four times, no answer. Five times, no answer. Six times, still no answer.

What do you do when God doesn’t answer the way you expect Him to? When you know you’ve done everything by the Book, but you have no answer? When questions overtake you and you begin to doubt that you’ve heard from God because you still have no answer? When boldness flees and you’ve crumpled to your knees expecting, but receiving no answer?

We can only do as Elijah and Paul did: wait in prayer until we have an answer. Elijah prayed, and eventually it rained. Paul prayed, and he was eventually told to trust God’s grace even though He wasn’t granting his request. The effectual fervent prayer (literally: “energetic supplication” [not the same words as “prayed earnestly”]) of a righteous man avails much (or has much power). There is power in persistent prayer: power either to change the situation, or power to give us grace to accept the situation. Either way, when bold and authoritative vows fail us, we only receive victory if we continue to pray. “The quitter never could.”

  28. James 5:19-20 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.

Converted means come back to their firm stand in Jesus.

We must restore one another, that’s why we must have unity.

I Peter 4:8 And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

Proverbs 10:12 Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.

  29. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you.

Has we all know the return of the LORD Will be soon

  30. If you are having trouble, you should pray. And if you are feeling good, you should sing praises. If you are sick, ask the church leaders to come and pray for you. Ask them to put olive oil on you in the name of the Lord. If you have faith when you pray for sick people, they will get well. The Lord will heal them, and if they have sinned, he will forgive them.
    James 5:13‭-‬15 CEV

Thank you sister for your continual prayer for my father❤❤❤ he may not know tge power in prayer, but we do!!!!

and never stop praying. Whatever happens, keep thanking God because of Jesus Christ. This is what God wants you to do.
    1 Thessalonians 5:17‭-‬18 CEV

  31. 7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

Patience is a virtue that we must learn how to possess. It effects and is evident in everything that we do. We must not allow the lack of patience to influence what we do for the kingdom. God’s timing is perfect and in “due” season we will reap if we faint not….this applies to all aspects of our lives. Sometimes we try to help God out, when He doesn’t need our help. Let God be God and let His timing be all that is important.

  32. “Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises. Are any of you sick? You should call for the elders of the church to come and pray over you, anointing you with oil in the name of the Lord. Such a prayer offered in faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will make you well. And if you have committed any sins, you will be forgiven.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:13-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Prayer is very important in our lives.
The key to communicate with God by prayer.
If we have a need ask in prayer in supplication believing that God will answer our prayer.

Here are some of my favorite verses from which I draw strength in my belief that prayer is powerful:

Psalm 107:28-30 Then they cried to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm be still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he brought them to their desired haven

Matthew 7:7 ”Ask, and it will be given to you seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Matthew 21:22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Mark 9:29 And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”

Mark 11:24 Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

John 14:13-14 Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it

Ephesians 6:18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,

Philippians 4:6-7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

  33. “Look here, you rich people: Weep and groan with anguish because of all the terrible troubles ahead of you.”

Look here you rich people their is terrible troubles ahead of you

  34. 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

Jesus never forced anyone to come to him and repent of their sins. We should never be forceful either. Jesus was always a gentleman, his love and compassion for souls was a beacon of light that attracted people to him. When we reach for a soul we should approach them in the same way Jesus did. By exhibiting the love of Jesus, others will also be attracted to the light of the Holy Ghost burning within us. We have an opportunity to stop souls from eternal death by showing our and theirs need to repent, by leading and demonstrating the love of our Father.

1Pe 4:8 ”Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.”

  35. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

We need to stand by the word that we say to God and to other people. If we can not stand on our word, how can we expect to stand on the word of God? Which should a precedent on how we live our life.

  36. My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.
    James 5:19‭-‬20 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/jas.5.19-20.NLT

I’ve had many people that I hold very dear walk away from truth. And we can do and say all we can but I do know that it is the fervent prayers of a righteous man that can bring our loved ones home. I know this because I was one of those people and I know that the passionate prayers if my church family is what brought me back into the loving arms of God. I am forever grateful for my church and for a God that never gives up on me! Hallelujah!

  37. James 5:15
And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

  38. I Love To Worship The Lord
    The Living Bible Paraphrased
    (vs-9)
    Dont grumble about each other brothers. Are you yourselves above criticism? For see! The great Judge is coming. He is almost here.{LET HIM DO WHATEVER CRITICIZING MUST BE DONE.}
Wow!!!! this was a great vs. for me. Not to often but from time to time i have been dealing with the contents of this verse. God has been dealing with me recently and i have been praying for an answer after reading vs-9 the Lord has answered my prayer . WOW THANK YOU JESUS.
We can be patient when provoked. Like farmers we wait for the harvest time We know that Jesus Christ is waitting at the door

  39. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
    James 5:16 NIV

Not only of a righteous person but of righteous people. Even if I haven’t confessed my sins to everyone lol but I still know that the ones who do know have prayed and this is what has pulled me through.

  40. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
    James 5:16 NIV

I’ve done this and I can testify it works. God is so good and has placed the most wonderful righteous people in my life. I know there prayers are what pull me through everyday.

  41. “My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back from wandering will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭5:19-20‬ ‭NLT‬‬
This is my hearts desire. I pray that everyone who has wandered away would be brought back. I pray that God would give us wisdom on how to bring them back.

  42. [Jas 5:19-20 NLT] 19 My dear brothers and sisters, if someone among you wanders away from the truth and is brought back, 20 you can be sure that whoever brings the sinner back will save that person from death and bring about the forgiveness of many sins.
The value of a single soul is worth more than all the gold in this world. Isn’t it worth our best effort to reach someone who has wandered away from the truth? Let’s allow the Lord to use us to reach those who have wandered!

  43. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.
Don’t swear against anything and be a man or woman of your word. If you say “Yes” mean it and if you say “No” be sure it means “No”.

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.
14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord:
When I hear saints complaining about their problems I’d like to start answering in this way.

15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.
16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.
Having faith and being a righteous man or woman should be at the top of your priority list. No other explanation needed!

  44. From physical healing to spiritual healing!

God desires for us to be completely whole. It’s not enough to seek physical healing of your soul is headed for destruction because physical healing will last this lifetime. But spiritual healing and wholeness will last a lifetime and through eternity.

  45. Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.
    James 5:13 NLT

No matter what the hardship is prayer is the answer. He will always be there to deliver us. We must praise Him Even though he hasn’t done it yet.

  46. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

We have got to know who we are I’m chrsit and what we need to work on. As well as PRAY for your brethren and sisters in Christ. We are not exempt from prayer that is the main thing we need to do in our lives. It can tear down strongholds!

  47. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

    “Of a righteous man”

Two different dynamics at works here.

Effectual fervent describing the type of prayer and the righteous describing the type of man to produce much availing type of prayer.

That could possibly answer the “why” our prayer falls short at times.

  48. “Brothers, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door!‭‭(James‬ ‭5:9‬ ‭HCSB‬)

  49. Throughout the book of James we have been encouraged to be there for one another in prayer, give words of encouragement, and to cease any bad mouthing that takes place between us. I’m sure it’s no coincidence that Bro Morgan also encouraged us to stand together and get rid of all strife we had with any brothers or sisters in the church. Reiterating what he said, we are stronger together than we are apart. So let’s learn to forgive and forget so we can get back to bringing unity in the church to accomplish what God has in store for this region.

  50. 13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms.

Afflicted? Pray! Merry? Sing psalms!.. nowhere does it say to just stay put and do nothing but rather action. We should always respond to God. We are not dead neither is He. The Apostolic doctrine of Action.

  51. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

When we are prideful we do not like to admit when we are wrong. But if we would humble ourself so that we are able to confess our sins to another then the confessing part brings us right back down to earth by showing our weaknesses to one another. Confessing our sin starts the process of forgiveness not only does GOD forgive us (when we repent) but we can then forgive ourself (sometimes it’s harder to forgive ourself pr to accept GOD’S forgiveness). Again it’s only pride that stands in between forgiveness, because GOD IS ABLE…… THANK YOU DADDY FOR FORGIVING ME!!!
