3 John

The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.

We therefore ought to receive such, that we might be fellowhelpers to the truth.

I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church.

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

13 I had many things to write, but I will not with ink and pen write unto thee:

14 But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.

  1. “Dear friend, you are being faithful to God when you care for the traveling teachers who pass through, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church here of your loving friendship. Please continue providing for such teachers in a manner that pleases God. For they are traveling for the Lord, and they accept nothing from people who are not believers. So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.”
    3 John 1:5‭-‬8 NLT

Missionary offerings are in the Bible! John says that we please God when we give so that others can go, and God always provides enough for us to give to the Kingdom. In fact, these verses seem to say that it is the will of God for us to completely support those who travel for the Gospel’s sake.

We should not expect God to provide for evangelists and missionaries through unbelievers, when He has placed the finance to support the work of God in our hands. If we hold to our finances so tightly that we have difficulty giving, then we are being unfaithful to God. However, if we open our hands and give freely, then we are partners in their labours and partakers in their rewards. There is no telling how many souls have been added to our accounts because we have freely given to those who are preaching the Gospel.

“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work: (As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever.”
    2 Corinthians 9:7‭-‬9 KJV

  2. This chapter spoke to my heart about partnering up with our fellow believers and working together. Verse 5 CEV says “Dear friend, you have always been faithful in helping other followers of the Lord, even the ones you didn’t know before.” We must develop a relationship with them (not only missionaries; but, each other also), support them and even know who is sitting on the next pew. Verse 8 NLT says “So we ourselves should support them so that we can be their partners as they teach the truth.” I want to be a part of what God is doing among us in these last days.” If we don’t develop and care enough to build a relationship with them, then how will we know them by name as verse 15 AMP says “Peace be to you. The friends [here] greet you. Greet the friends [personally] by name.”

  3. 5Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers and sisters, a even though they are strangers to you. 6They have told the church about your love. Please send them on their way in a manner that honors God.

When we are faithful in the service for the kingdom, if we have the truth in us, the reality of our faith, our true sincerity of our love for the doctrine of the truth, and our true love for God, we will show a devotion without hesitation to serve others. Even if they are perfect strangers that we may have just met and witnessed to. It includes loving all that we come in contact with and to be ready to accommodate them by giving them the means to save their souls from the torment of sin.

It allows us to establish a name that will represent our church, our religious stance and it will reflect our relationship with God. But it will never be more established than the name of Jesus.

    Acts 4:12 states-
12Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

We will either have opportunity to add to our crown or we will lose the chance gain for the kingdom. Either way what we do or not do, we will stand before the Lord in judgement for those things. Seeking first the kingdom of God will allow the kingdom in us to be present to others. Above all having the love of God in us to show others. It’s about Jesus Christ and he is about souls and we should be about those that need to be set free from the bondage of sin.

    I live the kingdom!

  4. So important was this to John that he could say, “ I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.” Perhaps most of us think of soul winning as the greatest joy of the Christian life , and it is wonderful indeed to see men and women translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of the son of His love. But who can measure the heartache to to see those who professed to be saved, returning to their former life , like a sow retiring to her wallowing in the mire and a dog to its vomit. On the other hand , what a thrill it is to see one’s spiritual children going on for the Lord, from grace to grace . Again this emphasizes the importance of FOLLOW-UP work in all our evangelistic endeavors.

This takes me back to when Evengelist Randall was here preaching and needed tires for his RV. We need to help those that spread the news and the truth of God’s word. What kind of Godly man would I be: if I just sat back and watched the opportunity go by to pay it forward. It is biblical to help our missionaries; local and abroad. It all falls back to pride; yeah I can be stingy and say that I need to help our church. That would be stupid; cause guess why 🤔. Helping the missionaries is helping our church. 🤯 Blew my mind; when I think back before I really became a giver; how greedy was I. Now it’s every chance I get to give; I’m there. I love to serve our missionaries and help our church to grow. Thank you Jesus for opening my heart to the reward of giving.

  6. 9. I wrote to the church about this, but Diotrephes, who loves to be the leader, refuses to have anything to do with us.

    11. Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God. NLT

    Jeremiah 15:19-21
“… Use words truly and well. Don’t stoop to cheap whining. Then, but only then, you’ll speak for me. Let your words change them. Don’t change your words to suit them. I’ll turn you into a steel wall, a thick steel wall, impregnable. They’ll attack you but won’t put a dent in you because I’m at your side, defending and delivering.” GOD’s Decree. “I’ll deliver you from the grip of the wicked. I’ll get you out of the clutch of the ruthless.” MSG

We can’t allow bad examples to influence us; we have to remain steady and strong in what we know is right. God sees all and knows all.

    Galatians 6:
    7. Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

I get so excited when we have visitors, especially an evangelist, or prophet Guy, but not because they are evangelist, or a prophet, a title means nothing if your not doing the Lords will, EVERYONE OF THEM BRINGS THE HARSH, UNADULTERATED TRUTH OF THE WORD OF GOD WITH COMPASSION AND BOLDNESS, then they begin to encourage us, some times I experience the cutting of the word of God, but then I start to feel the love, I love when the missionaries has come to share and teach, but what amazes me is to see where the Hand of God is not so short, it reaches across continents and states, when Pastor begins to talk about Thailand, I begin to see how much I take for granted, because they have to travel hours to get the word and what they need from God! And he touches everyone the same, because he is a great God, and no matter who is teaching or even preaching he always is giving truth. They dont stray from the rawness of the word, it hits and sometimes you feel like you just got whipped with an extension cord, but that kind of teaching is necessary. Thank you Jesus for giving Pastor insight and discernment on who to trust with your flock!

  8. When we walk with the Lord ans follow his commandments we will have a good report with men, in the church and the world. We become a reflection of Jesus to the world around us.

  9. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is to just stay faithful in the truth. It’s not about everything we give for everything we do but that we just stay faithful walking in the gospel that we know and continuing to seek more in God. Given that there is so much evil in this world the truth is only thing that will keep us safe and away from all of that. We should be careful to understand that we can be easily deceived into believing something that will cause us to stray but the full Gospel which does not go based off of our emotions is what leads us on the straight path to safety in the arms of Christ.

  10. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Follow the good examples set before you and don’t be persuaded to do something you question. As Pastor says anything he teaches or speaks about is lined up with the Word of God and He talks to God about it. If you are doing something that doesn’t line up and haven’t seeked God or Godly council then it’s most likely something that you shouldn’t do or be a part of. Which are you? One that does good and is of God or the other side that hasn’t seen God?

  11. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Prospering in your physical body and your spiritual soul is important. It was his prayer that those he loved and called friend would prosper in their health and soul.

We should make it a priority to see others prosper in health and in their spirit. We are of one body and as those around us gain strength we collectively gain strength.

  12. John 3 :5-6 [Amp] Jesus answered, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, unless a man or women is born of the water and the Spirit, he cannot ever enter the kingdom of God. [6] What is born of
[ from ] the flesh [ of the physical]; and what is born of the Spirit is spirit. Jesus will give you a new heart and new spirit and I will put within you. And I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I put my Spirit within you and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall heed My ordinances and do them. Jesus will cleanse you for the remission of your sins. And not remember them anymore. It’s was the blood of Jesus that died for us. Thank you Jesus for saving me.

  13. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

    5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

6 Which have borne witness of thy charity before the church: whom if thou bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, thou shalt do well:

7 Because that for his name’s sake they went forth, taking nothing of the Gentiles.
Stay faithful to the word, and love our brothers and sisters. When new believers arise it’s a delicate time love and encourage them to keep moving forward.

  14. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

    Everybody say “When he preached”.
    -when he preached
Anybody can look like they’re walking in truth but how many can actually say they’re living in it. The past few chapters I’m sure its safe to say we can find ourselves back at the altAr looking to be altEred. When abiding in the vine we know we must follow the word of God because it is the truth thy word is thy truth. We know that this word is actually Jesus; the living Word. Our job is to live and walk in the spirit, to make the right decisions with the option of the wrong one right next to it. Read that last sentence a little slower. I said MAKING THE RIGHT DECISION with the option of the wrong one right next to it. So when were living in truth we are to testify about it because during that walk will be miraculous moments and God moving moments. We are to share the goodness of Jesus and with all that being said if you walk in truth there’s always goodness.

  15. Everyone speaks highly of Demetrius, as does the truth itself. We ourselves can say the same for him, and you know we speak the truth.
    3 John 1:12 NLT

The Truth will make you free, the Bible says. It will also prove you. If we are living by the commandments of God then we don’t need to bring attention to ourselves. As we live by the Truth of God’s Word it will establish us in the lives of those around us.

And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
    Isaiah 58:11 KJV

  16. For I was greatly pleased when [some of the] brothers came [from time to time] and testified to your [faithfulness to the] truth [of the gospel message], that is, how you are walking in truth. I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my [spiritual] children are living [their lives] in the truth.
    3 JOHN 1:3‭-‬4 AMP

Yes, wjat Joy to know that our ‘children’ living, speaking, growing, and applying truth to their lives!!!
The proverbs of Solomon. A wise son maketh a glad father: but a foolish son is the heaviness of his mother.
    Proverbs 10:1 KJV

  17. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

My mother in law always quoted verse 2 to me every time she saw me and I never too the time to look up the scripture. I always pondered how my soul would prosper. I understood the health part but when you add in AS your soul prospers, it seems to give the indication that she was saying that if your soul was not prospering neither would your health. So I walked around confused about this saying for years.

The answer is in verse 3.

Your soul prospers when you walk in truth.
It does not say my soul prospers when I know the truth. It says when I walk in it. The difference is simple, knowing something and doing it are very different things. If we know how to make a sandwich but never do it, we will still be hungry because we never did anything about what we know. This scripture then indicates that if you walk in the truth, actually put your knowledge of the truth into practice in your daily life, then you will also be healthy. The other part is if you do not walk in the truth, what difference does it really make how our flesh is doing. The soul has to be first. If I put what is most important to God First two things happen. The first thing is what is important to me seems to fade into the background and two what matters to him also begins to matter more to me. This scripture declares if I put the things of his Kingdom FIRST, he will bless me naturally.

    First thy Kingdom
    First the Altar

  18. They are somethings they just have to be talked about face-to-face. And today’s day and time it’s hard to speak face-to-face to someone. People are so busy, everyone has many things to do, you’re far away from each other, and so it makes things extremely difficult to speak to somebody face-to-face. We have to have those face-to-face moments with God. The only time that we truly know his heart and see his face is when we are with him one on one. After we get that one on one time with God then we need to have that one on one time with someone else. Our new believers, our children, and people that we love that are a little far off need our face-to-face time. Well we have this face-to-face time people can see the love of God on us and they can know how much we care for them. We must have more Face to face time and less texts, emails, and voicemails. We have to be willing to sacrifice our time for the things that are important to us and God.

  19. Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.
    3 John 1:2‭, ‬11 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/3jn.1.2-11.NLT

Thank you Jesus, I always want to walk with Lord, always strive with him

  20. iLove the Kingdom in Action

9 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not.

The word preeminence here means “desire to be first”. Now, I know there is nothing wrong with wanting to come in first (like a race or contest) but there is something wrong with wanting to “be first” especially when you are trying to overrule your authority. You see, God has delegated authority to certain people. We should always fall under these peoples authority and put our ideas on hold. We should not seek to be first, but should seek to serve those who are in delegated authority.

  21. 11 Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God. (NLT)

Our church mission is to impact lives. We cannot impact this world if we allow it to influence us. We must stand out and be holy, stand out and make Kingdom first decisions, stand out and speak the gospel. This verse right here says your actions prove who you serve – choose this day whom ye will serve!

  22. 3 John 1:4 (amp), “I have no greater joy than this, to hear that my (spiritual) children are living (their lives) in the truth.”

As a Sunday School teacher, I have taught many children over the years the Truth of God’s Word. I can honestly say that there is “no greater Joy” than hearing and knowing that the “spiritual” children I have taught are now grown up living their lives in the Truth and working in His Kingdom.

Thank You JESUS for the precious Children!!

  23. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Take up your cross and follow Jesus.
Everyday we have to make a choice to live right. Plan and simple. We must first go to the alter, mend it, sacrifice to God and then move into the rest of our day. When we seek First the Kingdom it should be second nature to stop at the alter and worship God. We must make it a life style. We have to tell others about the saving power of Jesus. Hows your alter? First the Kingdom

  24. 3John
5-8 Dear friend, when you extend hospitality to Christian brothers and sisters, even when they are strangers, you make the faith visible. They’ve made a full report back to the church here, a message about your love. It’s good work you’re doing, helping these travelers on their way, hospitality worthy of God himself! They set out under the banner of the Name, and get no help from unbelievers. So they deserve any support we can give them. In providing meals and a bed, we become their companions in spreading the Truth.

Immediately my thoughts went to the many years of being on the evangelistic field . The many homes , the many meals , the offerings and the true love shown to support the ministry so that the Gospel be spread. Remember you have a reward and you are a part of spreading the Gospel when you give into the Kingdom.
We were parked at the church where we were to minister. Times had been lean but it did not detour the man of God to preach where ever the call cane from . Churches with 500 people or with just a handful. He would answer the call. Offerings whether large or small did not waiver him at all. Yet faithful saints of God heard the voice of God.
After a prayer of thanking God for what He was going to do for the town we were ministering in we opened the door to a little old lady pulling a red wagon behind her. She approached and said are you the visiting preacher and with a smile she said” God told me to bring these groceries to you .” “Can you use them You should have seen the smiles on my two little darlings face. They knew God had just answered our prayer and I knew God was fulfilling scripture that help was there so that the Gospel could be shared. Don’t under estimate what you give . The message Sunday evening was phenomenal.
When you give remember we cannot out give God.
He has proven to me time and time again. Give and it will be given to you. We must support our local assembly abdceach time we see someone being filled with the Holy Ghost or baptized we can think in our hearts how blessed that we were able to give and be a part of seeing the Kingdom of God grow.

    God’s promises are true.

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth……

  25. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    THE WILL OF GOD

2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

The apostle establishes the foundational principal for discipleship. Our spiritual growth in The Kingdom of GOD will confirm our health and prosperity. So often this principal is twisted and flipped to mean when I prosper I must be spiritual, because I am blessed.

Earthly possessions has NOTHING to do with Spiritual Maturity. Most of the richest people on earth could not find a BIBLE, or even share the saving New Birth gospel message. True prosperity is when the soul increases in knowledge and wisdom of The Kingdom of GOD.

Seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD to know the Will of GOD. The Will of GOD is found in HIS Holy WORD and is confirmed at The ALTAR.

  26. “Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.”
    -‭‭3 John‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You will know them by the fruits of their spirit. Christians in church that continually live in sin lack a relationship with God and wisdom. If you’re not doing good (by God’s standards), God isn’t pleased with you. Although His grace is enough for us we don’t have much time these days to be playing church. Let’s seek God with all of our hearts and obey His commandments!

  27. For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

  28. Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

  29. I am greatly rejoiced when brethren came and testify me of the truth that I walk in the truth but I say the truth no lies

  30. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.
4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

Walk in the love of Jesus Christ so that others can feel his love.

  31. As a member of the the youth team. I have no greater joy then to see one of my youth that I been working on for months pray through the Holy Ghost. It’s amazing to see that God can take the harden hearts and make them cry out to his name. It’s my prayer everyday that our kids and young people will fall in love with God. And his word.
“I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.”
    ‭‭III John‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭NKJV

  32. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.
3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

There is nothing greater than living in the truth and walking by truth in the name of Jesus Christ for we are the light of the world.

  33. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth.

Jesus said seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you ( Matthew 6:33) and this scripture is echoed here in 3 John. When we seek him daily, follow after his righteousness, we will be prosperous and he will look after our health. When we give, it will be given back to us plus we have many benefits from being a child of the King. As we walk in the truth, we must daily reach to others in word or example so they can know our God will supply all their need.

  34. “Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit. Some of the traveling teachers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and that you are living according to the truth. I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth.”
    ‭‭3 John‬ ‭1:2-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We should always remember that God wants our best and plans only good for us.

I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in truth.

  35. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

We understand that sometimes test and trials come through sick to see if we are going to trust the plan has for us. However, sometimes we must search our heart and see if God is trying to get our attention to let us know there is sickness in our spiritual life. Everything is a parable, or a type and shadow with Jesus and sometimes he has to use the physical to let us know the spiritual is in trouble.

My prayer is that our eyes and ears be open to His voice while we are at the altar so we are aware the condition of our spiritual man so that we can prosper as our soul prospers.

  36. Who are you following?

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

Throughout life you will have many examples to follow. We must pray and discern to know the difference between those which are for our good and those that only seek to help themselves.

This verse show us the importance of not only just choosing the right role model, but also in being the right role model.

So how do we do both of these things?

“For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭13:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Follow Jesus!

If we are following Him First, we cannot be lead astray and we can better discern between good and evil.
If we are following Him First, we can lead others to Him by example.

“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”
    ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭11:1‬ ‭NKJV‬‬“Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.”

  37. “Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.”
    ‭‭3 John‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is easy to be influenced by others when we don’t have a relationship with God. Our foundation in the word of Hod sure be firm so that not anyone be able to influence our beliefs.
We are God’s children and we must act like it.

  38. Some of the traveling teachers recently returned and made me very happy by telling me about your faithfulness and that you are living according to the truth. I could have no greater joy than to hear that my children are following the truth. Everyone speaks highly of Demetrius, as does the truth itself. We ourselves can say the same for him, and you know we speak the truth.
    3 John 1:3‭-‬4‭, ‬12 NLT

Our love in Action should be louder and stronger than our mouth. Our testimony should speak that we truly are children of God. What do others say about you? And no I dont mean be people pleasers but God pleases. There is no accusation against truth. When we are walking with Him keeping our altars burning with fire there nothing that can say any wrong. Our walk will show for what you pray in secret to the father will be manifested in public. You can tell what kind of tree it is by its fruit.

  39. 3 John
    11) Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

  40. I Love To Worship The Lord
    (vs-11)
    The Living Bible Paraphrased
Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do what is right prove that they are Gods children and those who continue in evil prove that they are far from God
I find that this is so true today especially in the truth that we live at the Pencostals Of Fort Worth

  41. But I trust I shall shortly see thee, and we shall speak face to face. Peace be to thee. Our friends salute thee. Greet the friends by name.
    3 John 1:14 KJV
I had a boss in the Air Force who told me, Email is so impersonal. He believed business could be a lot more effective and productive when handled in person. Evidently, John felt the same way about kingdom business and would rather speak face to face with people than write a letter. Something to think about!

  42. The elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth.

    5 Beloved, thou doest faithfully whatsoever thou doest to the brethren, and to strangers;

Nicodemus was afraid, or ashamed to be seen with Christ, therefore came in the night. When religion is out of fashion, there are many Nicodemites. But though he came by night, Jesus bid him welcome, and hereby taught us to encourage good beginnings, although weak. And though now he came by night, yet afterward he owned Christ publicly. He did not talk with Christ about state affairs, though he was a ruler, but about the concerns of his own soul and its salvation, and went at once to them. Our Saviour spoke of the necessity and nature of regeneration or the new birth, and at once directed Nicodemus to the source of holiness of the heart. Birth is the beginning of life; to be born again, is to begin to live anew, as those who have lived much amiss, or to little purpose. We must have a new nature, new principles, new affections, new aims. By our first birth we were corrupt, shapen in sin; therefore we must be made new creatures. No stronger expression could have been chosen to signify a great and most remarkable change of state and character. We must be entirely different from what we were before, as that which begins to be at any time, is not, and cannot be the same with that which was before. This new birth is from heaven, John 1:13, and its tendency is to heaven. It is a great change made in the heart of a sinner, by the power of the Holy Spirit. It means that something is done in us, and for us, which we cannot do for ourselves. Something is wrong, whereby such a life begins as shall last for ever. We cannot otherwise expect any benefit by Christ; it is necessary to our happiness here and hereafter. What Christ speak, Nicodemus misunderstood, as if there had been no other way of regenerating and new-moulding an immortal soul, than by new-framing the body. But he acknowledged his ignorance, which shows a desire to be better informed. It is then further explained by the Lord Jesus. He shows the Author of this blessed change. It is not wrought by any wisdom or power of our own, but by the power of the blessed Spirit. We are shapen in iniquity, which makes it necessary that our nature be changed. We are not to marvel at this; for, when we consider the holiness of God, the depravity of our nature, and the happiness set before us, we shall not think it strange that so much stress is laid upon this. The regenerating work of the Holy Spirit is compared to water. It is also probable that Christ had reference to the ordinance of baptism. Not that all those, and those only, that are baptized, are saved; but without that new birth which is wrought by the Spirit, and signified by baptism, none shall be subjects of the kingdom of heaven. The same word signifies both the wind and the Spirit. The wind bloweth where it listeth for us; God directs it. The Spirit sends his influences where, and when, on whom, and in what measure and degree, he pleases. Though the causes are hidden, the effects are plain, when the soul is brought to mourn for sin, and to breathe after Christ.

  43. “Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.”(3 John‬ ‭1:11‬ ‭NLT‬)

Being children of God and wash under the blood and having the gift of the Holy Ghost we know we have to be careful what people
we involve ourselves around with and who we allow ourselves to be influence by. We must involve ourselves around people that are Godly and Kingdom minded. Obeying the word of God and his commands and by walking faithful in the truth then we are Gods children. Those that do evil prove that all there ways are unstable and that they don’t know God and that there lost in the darkness of this world.

  44. Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.
    3 John 1:11 NIV

Demetrius, from what i understand, lead a riot against Paul. Also from what i understand a riot is usually started from a dispute against somthing, in this case, Christianity. A dispute is usually caused by a person willingness to voice their opinion towards a particular matter. If these opinions sound good enough or are twisted in a certain way they begin to persuade others to believe the same and thus causing a riot. Leading me to my question, are we strong enough in our faith that we are not easily influenced to go along with the crowd, to mimic these evil doers? These folks that worship false idols? Im not so easily swayed, or am i? Where do we stand in our oppinion of Christ, where does he stand as far as an influence in your life? Imitate Christ let him be your influence in all things because he is all things good.

  45. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.

To do good can be a challenge when flesh tries to get in the way. When we deny selfish desires we choose to exchange evil for good. When we know the goodness of God we could god back.

  46. v4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

John stressed our need to walk in truth..as we devote ourselves to and continually teach sound doctrine
    1 Timothy 4:13 & Titus 2:1

  47. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

Jesus Hopes for us to prosper in the spirit and hold a strong spiritual life. Jesus wants us to thrive and not survive but be great and not good. My God wants the best for me!

  48. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.

It is the will of God for us to prosper and be in good health.

  49. “I wrote something to the church; but Diotrephes, who loves to put himself first, does not accept what we say and refuses to recognize my authority. For this reason, if I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, unjustly accusing us with wicked words and unjustified charges. And not satisfied with this, he refuses to receive the [missionary] brothers himself, and also forbids those who want to [welcome them] and puts them out of the church.”
    ‭‭3 JOHN‬ ‭1:9-10‬ ‭AMP‬‬
We must seek God First. There’s no room for two masters. You will have to choose. He must be Lord of all or not Lord at all.

  50. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

As I said yesterday, leading by example is the best way to teach. I pray I have the privilege of having this same joy one day.

11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God.
12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

We are being told what to give an example of. “He that doeth good is of God. . . “ We also see by example of the Bible, in verse twelve, if keeping reports. It is biblical to keep church reports as our Pastor does. And we know that our records are true.

  51. “So when I come, I will call attention to what he is doing, spreading malicious nonsense about us. Not satisfied with that, he even refuses to welcome other believers. He also stops those who want to do so and puts them out of the church.”
    ‭‭3 John‬ ‭1:10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What kind of Christian are you portraying to those that come seeking God? Are you Demetrius who welcomes those that are passing through, showing compassion and love? Or are you Diotrephes, turning away those that are seeking refuge and hospitality, ultimately being the opposite of Christ-like? Check yourself.

  52. “These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.”
    ‭‭Jude‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬
We must seek God first. We can’t seek Him first and satisfy our own desires. We can’t serve two masters. We must choose.

  53. 11Dear friend, don’t let this bad example influence you. Follow only what is good. Remember that those who do good prove that they are God’s children, and those who do evil prove that they do not know God.

Don’t be easily influenced by bad examples. Friends can easily influence you if you’re of careful. You’ll want to be involved with friends, but don’t follow their lead. Follow God’s lead to keep from giving in to temptation.
