Job 16

Then Job answered and said,

I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.

Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?

But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.

And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.

11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.

12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.

13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.

15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.

16 My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;

17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.

18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.

19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high.

20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!

22 When a few years are come, then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.

  1. My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God. I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends. For soon I must go down that road from which I will never return.
    Job 16:20‭-‬22 NLT
We continue to see throughout this book that job never lose faith in God yes job may have had bad days but he never distant himself from God however in this chapter it seems to me that job think he the only one going through things the Bible says encourage yourself in the Lord . Moreover we might not have the days job did or we might will during your situation it’s important to stay focused on God and praise him through the storm we are overcome

1 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

Job is giving us all a great word of wisdom here. When we see people who are grieving we should not accuse them but we should grieve with them. Here is a New Testament scripture to prove it. “Rom 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
Rom 12:16 Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.”

Sometimes each and everyone of us can be so arrogant assuming that we are helping someone over grief by giving them scripture. I am guilty of this. We should not throw a pity party, however there is a period of grief. To be honest, this happened when my wife’s grandmother passed away. In my ignorance, I did not realize I needed to grieve with her. God has forgiven me and I hope to never act as Job’s friends did again towards people’s grief. An encouraging word is always in order, just make sure that word is in season.

  3. Job 16

Job’s private journal made public. He expressed what was deep within his heart. Cry of desperation!
He was broken hurting and filled with questions! He knew where he stood with God ! How often do we judge ?

Matthew 26:36-46 King James Version (KJV)
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Lord help our ears to be sensitive and our words spoken slowly with sincerity. In Jesus name.

2 Peter 1: 3 assures us, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness.” Everything.

I will do my best to bless the Lord at all times. When I fail Lord forgive me. In Jesus name.

  4. 4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

We should be slow to criticize others for what they do or don’t do when we have not walked in their shoes. However, the Bible does tell us to judge and shy away from evil and sin.

  5. 5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?

Job is stating something that we all should learn to do when facing trials and tribulations, we must be careful in choosing our words to encourage somebody else. If we are not careful we will cast our anger, bitterness, and any other emotion on them if we do not choose the right attitude or words.
Job states how is it that I strengthen you, but his grief is not lessened and it doesn’t make it any better than the beginning.

When we have opportunities to encourage others we have to take the lessons learned through our circumstances to help them. We become wiser in knowledge and hopefully become a stronger example in how to overcome the trials and tests, to have a greater testimony. Can I say that seeking first the kingdom of God, we gain the knowledge and tenacity to overcome any situation that we encounter. The great statement “that which doesn’t kill us just makes us stronger” is true only if we believe that God will be right their to keep us through it all.

I am reminded of the old song this morning through it all-

I’ve had many tears and sorrows,
    I’ve had questions for tomorrow,
there’s been times I didn’t know right from wrong.
    But in every situation,
    God gave me blessed consolation,
that my trials come to only make me strong.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.
I’ve been to lots of places,
I’ve seen a lot of faces,
there’s been times I felt so all alone.
    But in my lonely hours,
    yes, those precious lonely hours,
Jesus lets me know that I was His own
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I’ve learned to trust in Jesus,
I’ve learned to trust in God.
    Through it all,
    through it all,
I’ve learned to depend upon His Word.
I thank God for the mountains,
and I thank Him for the valleys,
I thank Him for the storms He brought me through.
For if I’d never had a problem,
I wouldn’t know God could solve them,
I’d never know what faith in God could do.

    I love the Kingdom!

  6. Verses 1-5 MSG “Then Job defended himself: “I’ve had all I can take of your talk. What a bunch of miserable comforters! Is there no end to your windbag speeches? What’s your problem that you go on and on like this? If you were in my shoes, I could talk just like you. I could put together a terrific harangue and really let you have it. But I’d never do that. I’d console and comfort, make things better, not worse!” Lord help us to always encourage one another, be building blocks, and be sensitive to each others needs in the body.

Colossians 3:15-17 CEV says “Each one of you is part of the body of Christ, and you were chosen to live together in peace. So let the peace that comes from Christ control your thoughts. And be grateful. Let the message about Christ completely fill your lives, while you use all your wisdom to teach and instruct each other. With thankful hearts, sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God. Whatever you say or do should be done in the name of the Lord Jesus, as you give thanks to God the Father because of him.”

  7. Even now my witness is in heaven. My advocate is there on high. My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God. I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends. For soon I must go down that road from which I will never return.
    Job 16:19‭-‬22 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.16.19-22.NLT

It is true; even though I maybe scorned, put down, ridiculed. I have a witness in heaven. Just like the old saying, “with friends like these; who needs enemies.” I’m very particular who I let in my life now. I need friends that are going to build me in my faith and encourage me to continue doing what I’m doing. I don’t need the scorners, backbiters, those that will tell me to lay down and give up. I do my best to pray for those that would come against me and work very diligently to keep my strength up in the Kingdom. Yeah I could have laid down and died due to certain circumstances, but I chose to get up; dust myself off and get back into the word. Trust in God to open a door and believe on Him that He will provide what I need; when I need it. Just like others though: I need that mediator. I believe that we all need a mediator in our lives. I thank you Jesus for this word today.

  8. 16:4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.
    ——————-
Body of Christ: let us Learn to discern!!! let us Learn when not to open our mouth, and instead of trying to b noise, or assume something, let’s just pray for one another and encourage each other.
    I pray
    I rejoice
    I am anointed
    I work

  9. 2. I have heard all this before. What miserable comforters you are!

    3. Won’t you ever stop blowing hot air? What makes you keep on talking? NLT

There are times when the best thing you can say is nothing.
When people are going through their hardest times, they don’t necessarily want or need a running commentary of how you think they got there, they may just need someone be there so that they don’t bear their grief alone.

    Ecclesiastes 3:
1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

7 A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; KJV

  10. 11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.

One of the worst things you could ever do to yourself is to take hold of a victim mentality. The victim mentality is one of the most dangerous ways to think because it has the perspective that everyone is against them and thus sees everything as such. Where it doesn’t matter what happens, everything that isn’t perfect is seen as an attack. we must continue to guard our hearts against that mentality that confines us. If God be for us who can be against us. everything has a purpose and everything can we turned around for the good if we will let go of the mentality and let God do what he wants

  11. I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should assuage your grief. Though I speak, my grief is not assuaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
    Job 16:4‭-‬6 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/job.16.4-6.KJV

    Assuage: verb
make (an unpleasant feeling) less intense.
“the letter assuaged the fears of most members”
synonyms: relieve, ease, alleviate, soothe, mitigate

Sometimes we want someone, a friend, a spouse, a sibling, a parent, especially your friends that came to see you, to comfort you, or give you some encouraging words at best, the Bible does say encourage yourself, but did he tell us to not encourage those that may need it, am I so heavenly minded that I’m no earthly Goid, even Jesus corrected and comforted, he didnt just leave them confused like “what did I do?” Alot of times it’s easy to use the word against someone when we dont have or cant find words of comfort to say, when sometimes all we need to do is PRAY with them, Lord I dont know their situation, but you do! How should I pray for them, Compassion goes along way! Pastor has said we cant say ” I’m just waiting on Jesus to tell me what to do”. If Jesus needs to tell me to be compassionate, I need to fix my alter, and pray through! I love you Jesus!

And therefore will the Lord wait, that he may be gracious unto you, and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for the Lord is a God of judgment: blessed are all they that wait for him.

  12. Job 16:1-5 (nlt)
    1) Then Job spoke again:
    2) I have heard all this before. What miserable comforters you are!
    3) Won’t you ever stop blowing hot air? What makes you keep on talking?
    4) I could say the same things if you were in my place. I could spout off criticism and shake my head at you.
    5) But if it were me, I would encourage you. I would try to take away your grief.

    The NLT version of …
Prov. 18:21, “The tongue can bring death or life;…”
Prov. 10:21, “The words of the godly encourage many…”
Prov. 12:18, “… but the words of the wise bring healing.”
Prov. 16:24, “Kind words are like honey, sweet to the soul and healthy to the body.”
Eph. 4:29, “… Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragment to those who hear them.”
1 Thess. 5:11, “So encourage each other and build each other up…”

    “Lead By Your Speech”
When someone is going through something, truly our words (tongue) can bring death or life to them. We must “Lead By Our Speech.” Our words should bring encouragement and healing. Our words should be kind, gentle, and helpful. Our words should encourage and build people up.

  13. Through all of job’s struggles he kept his eyes on God. Sometimes we need to realize no matter how bad things can get we should keep our eyes on the one who will give us strength to make it through. Be blessed today!

  14. Lift up your friend with encouraging words, not with harsh words that hurt. It will be better for you. Thank you Jesus.

  15. O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
    Job 16:21 KJV
This is jobe crying out for somebody to mediate with God for him instead of friends who are criticizing and condemning him. I also believe it is the heartbeat of God which is crying for , looking for intercessors who will stand in the gap for The souls of man. We we must answer the call in this hour and cry for those that have turned back on God and those that are lost. God give us Your burden 4 souls!

  16. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    KINGDOM PRAYER

20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.
21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!

We must be of the conviction to pray for souls. Our own as salvation necessitates and our neighbors as GOD leads. Friends may not understand our dilemma or situations and falsely accuse in attempt to figure out why we must suffer the perils of life. But we must remain focused on only hope and source of salvation and deliverance.

KINGDOM PRAYER is submitting to The Will of GOD. Occasionally this will require a pleading with GOD for deliverance, help or direction. There will be seasons of painful tears, but they do not compare to the HOPE of Eternal JOY.

Lets commit to PRAY for those in need and allow JESUS to be there Counsel, Judge and Jury. JESUS alone knows all, so pray for those in need and hurting. Lets GO reach the lost and bring them to JESUS.

  17. My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God. I need someone to mediate between God and me, as a person mediates between friends.
    Job 16:20‭-‬21 NLT

That person is Jesus Christ! There’s more than just a person he was God in flesh. God made himself available and approachable and he bridged the Gap so that we could know him on an intimate and personal level. thank you God!

  18. 1 Then Job answered and said,
2 I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all.
3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

This is why we must have a relationship with God, because those around us, even our friends, will tell you want they think. And not always what God thinks. How do we find out, because of His Words to us. It should be evident that we read Gods word, because it should be our first answer to situations. What does God say?

    Seek ye First the Kingdom
    How is your altar

  19. Job 16: 20-21 [Amp] My friends scorn me, But my eye pours out tears to God, [21] Oh, that there might be one who would plead for a man with God and that he would maintain his right with Him, as a son of man pleads with or for his neighbor !
[ 1 Tim.2:5] For there [ is only] One God , and [ only] one Mediator between God and men, The Man Christ Jesus. We are not the judge , Love your neighbor’s show them Wisom and knoweledge that God has given to you. Go and reach the hurting.

  20. 9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.

Your enemy might do all he can to bring you down, but all you need to do is stay in line with the Lord and press through all of it.
Jesus gonna make a way when there’s no way and we have to be consistent in walking in the Spirit.

  21. 3 Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

All of us have had situations where people were “supposed” to be encouraging us, but their words made it worse, or the entire situation turned from encouraging you to a pity party for them?

I want my words to encourage, uplift and hold up the hands that are hanging down with discouragment. To some being an encourager does not come natural, they have to work at it. So we must plan our words well. Find scripture to support it and give them some “meat” from the word of God to sustain them during their struggle.

NIV – Romans 15:4 For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.

    • Job 16:18,19
O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven and my record is on hig.

Psalm 66:18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:

Romans 1:9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always i my prayers

  22. My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God. O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleadeth for his neighbour!
    Job 16:20‭-‬21 KJV

Instead of staring and speculating and accusing when our brother falls into calamity, what if, we became intercessors? If Stephen and Jesus could look in the faces of their tormentors and intercede, surely we can do so for our friend.

How much better would it be if we, like Moses, fell on our faces and asked the Lord to strike us and spare our brother, or gave Him reasons why our brother’s suffering is emboldening the enemy and weakening the body? If we will, we can be like those who gathered around Tabitha’s body and cried out about all her good works until God intervened.

We have power with God. We can change the course of someone’s life, but it usually doesn’t happen through sharp tongues and pointed fingers. It happens when we love enough to get ahold of God for them and intercede.

Prayer and fasting will gentle the eyes and sweeten the tongue. Intercession will move God, encourage our friend, and humble our own hearts. It’s a win-win.

God help us to exchange our judgments and criticisms for intercession!

  23. But I would strengthen you with my mouth, And the comfort of my lips would relieve your grief.
    Job 16:5 NKJV

“You’ll eat your words”… what would be the response to those in need around you even when you’re hurting? What kind of words will you sow into the soul of another. Whatever you will reap. So sow words of life and encouragement. Unlike Job’s friends take the approach to uplift. There will be a time when you will need it. And the Lord will ensure that your receive what you have sown.

  24. 20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth out tears unto God.

Friendships are one of the most important things in our lives. Friends pray with and for us, lead us to understanding, and help in times if need. It is important that we show ourselves friendly and love our friends even in moments of weakness. We should encourage one another. Yet even in times where our friends cannot be there we have a dear friend named Jesus. We call always go to Him in prayer in confidence that we can cry on His shoulders and he will be faithful to hear us.

  25. But if it were me, I would encourage you. I would try to take away your grief.
    Job 16:5 NLT

No one said life would be easy! But when those hard times come the least we could do is encourage one another. There’s no point in pointing out the flaws or mistakes once they’ve been made – release and move on from the past. Look forward with a head held high for hope of the future and let God lead you to greater things.

  26. 20My friends scorn me, but I pour out my tears to God.

Not only friends will scorn because you go to church, but even family members. They say, you spend to much time at church, how can you be that religion. We must be like Job, endure the ridicule and anything else that come against you. Continue to serve God no matter what.

  27. [But instead] I could strengthen and encourage you with [the words of] my mouth, And the consolation and solace of my lips would soothe your suffering and lessen your anguish.
    JOB 16:5 AMP
    https://bible.com/bible/1588/job.16.5.AMP

Uplifting and encouragement usually gets us further then the nay sayer and the ego basher. Its one thing to tell somebody they are doing wrong but its another to say that they are feeling the rath of God because of it.

  28. Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?

4 I also could speak as ye do: if your soul were in my soul’s stead, I could heap up words against you, and shake mine head at you.

5 But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.
