Job 18

Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said,

How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak.

Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight?

He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place?

Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.

The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

12 His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

16 His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off.

17 His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street.

18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.

19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.

20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

  1. Verses 5-6 NIV “The lamp of a wicked man is snuffed out; the flame of his fire stops burning. The light in his tent becomes dark; the lamp beside him goes out.” In reading this chapter this morning, these verses reminded me of our First Fire. We must keep our light shining brightly for Jesus at all times as Leviticus 6:12-13 NIV says “The fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must not go out. Every morning the priest is to add firewood and arrange the burnt offering on the fire and burn the fat of the fellowship offerings on it. The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out. Same verses AMP “The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it shall not [be allowed to] go out. The priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and he shall arrange the burnt offering on it and offer the fat portions of the peace offerings up in smoke on it. The fire shall be burning continually on the altar; it shall not [be allowed to] go out.” Do not allow situations, circumstances or anything else put your light out; but, rather follow the light….Jesus. John 8:12 NIV says “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

  2. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him

If we are not careful we can spend a lot of time expecting bad things to happen to wicked people instead of doing what the Bible tells us to do. The Bible does not tell us the God looks forward 2 polishing people it said that his Mercy endures forever. Jesus tells us in more ways than one to love those that persecute us. Wow yes it is true that those that are us will receive the judgment of God what a joy it would be if they are turned Ways that are given Mercy. the people that do us wrong need the grace of God just as much as we do. if we learn how to just let God take care of their actions and deal with them in a way that he sees fit open up my heart to them and they may end up being reached the Christ through Mercy

  3. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked. And this is the place of him who does not know God. This doesn’t sound like a place I want to be. Thank you Jesus for your light that you shine upon me.

  4. 7. The confident stride of the wicked will be shortened. Their own schemes will be their downfall.

    8. The wicked walk into a net. They fall into a pit.

    9. A trap grabs them by the heel. A snare holds them tight.

    10. A noose lies hidden on the ground. A rope is stretched across their path. NLT

His Word lights our path so that we can see and avoid the pits and snares that await us; the wicked that don’t read His Word stumble into them in the darkness.

    Psalm 119:
    85. The proud have digged pits for me, which are not after thy law.

    105. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

    110. The wicked have laid a snare for me: yet I erred not from thy precepts. KJV

  5. 18:14 His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors.

  6. 15 It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation.

Not exactly where I’d like to be going after I pass on over to the other side. See there is no description that makes hell appealing at all so why would anyone wanna go there. There’s folks out there that know they’re headed straight for it but they act like they don’t care.
To be honest with you I think they do care, but I think they’ve given up on salvation because maybe they didn’t have someone like you and me to show them truth or to love them or to help them when they’re down. Maybe they’ve been picked on their whole life, maybe they’ve lost everything they ever owned or lost everyone they’ve ever loved. Could’ve grown up without a father, without a mother, without their parents and just finally given up and really asked themselves the most common question “if there’s a God then why would he put me through this”.
This is peoples minds everybody and they’re clouded by pain and sorrow. We need to pray for these people because these people are the Lost…

    Pray for the Lost

  7. They will have neither children nor grandchildren, nor any survivor in the place where they lived. People in the west are appalled at their fate; people in the east are horrified. They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’”

when you reject God and do what Nora thinks, and lives a Nora life, never thinking of others only the needs of Nora, this is what happens, your very existence is insignificant, wickedness your mistakes, the Good you’ve ever done is a myth, nobody cares about that, because somewhere you lost sight of what is really important, the relationship you had with God isnt even a thought, because you’ve lost it, the people you loved are no more because you are so consumed with self that they have dissapeared, Help me Lord. to have my candle burning always, let the fire on my alter never burn out! I need to be focused on God, His word and Prayer, I need to immerse my self in GOD!

  8. They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’”
    Job 18:21 NLT

What will be said of you? Better yet, what will be said of your neighbor? And I don’t mean that in a nosy sense; but in the sense of, do we care what will be said of them? When they are standing before God and you were the one God nudged to speak to them or pray with them… Will you have obeyed? We could be the one who impacts their lives so they no longer are the one who rejects God but the one who was delivered and saved, the one who came to know and love God.

  9. All memory of their existence will fade from the earth; no one will remember their names. They will be thrust from light into darkness, driven from the world. They will have neither children nor grandchildren, nor any survivor in the place where they lived. People in the west are appalled at their fate; people in the east are horrified. They will say, ‘This was the home of a wicked person, the place of one who rejected God.’”
    Job 18:17‭-‬21 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.18.17-21.NLT

To think this could’ve been my fate. This is the path I was headed down; before I truly came to know God. I didn’t think I was in a bad place, but hey then again I also believed in dead gods. How good was my life; it wasn’t. Yeah, see that’s how we are tricked by the enemy. Oh yeah I got it so good; then bam out comes the floor from under my feet. Some never recover from the loss: why, because they either haven’t come to know God or they got mad and walked away. I know that I don’t want people walking by and saying this is where a wicked man lived. Everything that we do in our lives God sees and makes an account of it. Just the smallest thing can close the gates to the Kingdom. I know that I still have a lot of work ahead of me, but I know that I’m on the right path. Now I need to complete those final steps and bring as many with me as I can. God is so awesome that He can fix any situation. Am I willing to make the sacrifice for the Kingdom. That is what I need to ask myself daily. My God is an awesome God.

  10. Job 18:5-6 (amp)
    5) Indeed, the light of the wicked will be put out, and the flame of his fire will not shine.
    6) The light will be dark in his tent, and his lamp beside him will be put out.

These scriptures made me think of 40 Days of “First Fire” coming up. On Wed., May 1, each family will be given a candle to take home and keep lit for 40 days. The candle is to represent the fire that fell upon the altar. This candle will be a reminder of how we are to allow the Fire to continually burn within us and our homes.

Keep the Light of JESUS Shining in your life!
Keep the Fire of the Holy Ghost burning within you!!

  11. This chapter depicts the sad realities of a life without God, both now and for eternity. This is not the place for anyone to want to be in. Therefore, it is important to do what we can to lead others to Jesus.

  12. “A trap grabs them by the heel. A snare holds them tight.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭18:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Not only is the wicked man weak in his journey, he is also on a dangerous path. He walks right into trouble, and the net takes him by the heel. In Bildad’s perspective, Job has walked into his own crisis, and a snare lays hold of him.

We as Christians need to be careful to put ourselves in dangerous situations. It can lead us into trouble. Sometimes anything can trigger a trap for us to fail in God’s kingdom.

  13. iLove the Kingdom
Job 18:1 “Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said…”

Bildad (Hebrew: בִּלְדַּד‎ Bildaḏ), the Shuhite, was one of Job’s three friends who visited the patriarch in the Hebrew Bible’s Book of Job. He was a descendant of Shuah, son of Abraham and Keturah (Genesis 25:1 – 25:2), whose family lived in the deserts of Arabia, or a resident of the district.

Ole Bildad’s family came from the elder Abraham after Sarah died. You know, this is interesting to me for the fact I had wondered before if the Children from Abraham and Keturah did anything notable. Little did I know that one of Job’s accusing friends was from that linage. Finding bits and pieces of information like this really gives the Word a little more texture and extra flavor.

  14. His roots shall be dried up beneath, and above shall his branch be cut off. His remembrance shall perish from the earth, and he shall have no name in the street. He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
    Job 18:16‭-‬17‭, ‬19 KJV
These are the wages of a foolish and sinful man indeed!!!

This could’ve been me or you. But….. GOD, in His mercy and Love has showed me the way to truth and righteous living❤ GLORY TO GOD IN THE HIGHEST ❤
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.
    Proverbs 9:10‭-‬11 KJV

  15. Job 18

    Satan is a liar.
We must pray daily that our minds are covered .

Isaiah 26:3 You will keep him in perfect peace, Whose mind is stayed on You, Because he trusts in You.

    In Jesus Name

  16. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

Don’t let the fire of God go out in your homes. We are the salt and light of the world. If we do not reflect Gods light then what are we reflecting.. we would be reflecting the world.

  17. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    WALK IN THE LIGHT

21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Bildad provides an accurate description of the the life of the sinner. Every verse is an added description of the darkness that prevails with sin and the sinner. Darkness, loneliness, desolation, deception and eventual destruction.

To avoid this life we need simply to know GOD. Surrender to HIM. Pray to JESUS, Build an ALTAR to JESUS, Worship JESUS, Read and Study the Word of JESUS, Obey the Commands of JESUS, Tell others about JESUS. Fostering and building a daily relationship with JESUS is paramount to Live in PEACE and WALK IN THE LIGHT of HIS Glory.

  18. ““Surely the light of the wicked will be snuffed out. The sparks of their fire will not glow. The light in their tent will grow dark. The lamp hanging above them will be quenched. The confident stride of the wicked will be shortened. Their own schemes will be their downfall.

“Terrors surround the wicked and trouble them at every step. Hunger depletes their strength, and calamity waits for them to stumble.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭18:5-7, 11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The wicked will get what’s coming to them for denying and turning away from God. Don’t be on that side of things. Trust and walk with God.

  19. Job 18:5-21 tells all the woes of the wicked

v.5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

Proverbs 13:9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

No matter what we go thru we need to keep our light shining to lead the wicked out of darkness.

    Keep reaching the lost!

    Keep the fire burning.

  20. ““Terrors surround the wicked and trouble them at every step. Hunger depletes their strength, and calamity waits for them to stumble. Disease eats their skin; death devours their limbs. They are torn from the security of their homes and are brought down to the king of terrors. The homes of the wicked will burn down; burning sulfur rains on their houses. Their roots will dry up, and their branches will wither.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭18:11-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  21. ELIPHAZ SAYS:
“Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good? Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God. For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.”
    Job 15:2‭-‬5 KJV

    THEN JOB ANSWERS:
“I have heard many such things: miserable comforters are ye all. Shall vain words have an end? or what emboldeneth thee that thou answerest?
…But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you.”
    Job 16:2-3; 17:10 KJV

    THEN ANSWERED BILDAD:
“How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? …Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight? He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place? Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.”
    Job 18:2‭-‬5 KJV

And so the rhetoric continues… Each side feeling compelled to prove their superior argument. Neither side willing to slow the roll of the heated debate. Arguments. Harsh words. Accusations. Swords shooting from mouths and slaying friends.

And to what profit? Job is not comforted. His pain not lessoned. His situation unchanged. Neither side is convinced of the other’s argument. Both sides are disillusioned, angry, and offended.

Such is always the case when pride takes over our disagreements.

    “Only by pride cometh contention…”
    Proverbs 13:10a KJV

One accusation or insult becomes another, and then another. Tempers flare. Voices raise. Fingers point. Hearts are broken… all because we can’t see eye to eye and are unwilling to concede the point, rest our case, or agree to disagree.

Is it really that important that we are right? Must we get the last word…that final jab in to prove we won? Wouldn’t it be better if we learned to humble ourselves and temper our words?

“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
    Proverbs 15:1 KJV

“There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.”
    Proverbs 12:18 KJV

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”
    Ephesians 4:29 KJV

Often, it is better yet (especially in trivial matters) to just keep our mouths closed. We don’t have to be heard. We don’t have to one-up the speaker. Our opinion doesn’t have to be proved at the price of a friendship. We can smile and forgive and move on. This is the true proof of greater wisdom.

“A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man holds it in check.”
    Proverbs 29:11 HCSB

Patience is better than power, and controlling one’s temper, than capturing a city.
    Proverbs 16:32 HCSB

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
    James 1:19‭-‬20 KJV

Funny, isn’t it, that both Job and his friends are trying to prove their superior wisdom; yet, the more they speak, the less they prove their points. May God help us all to know when our much speaking is betraying His wisdom, so that we can quickly learn to close our mouths.

  22. 18 He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world.
19 He shall neither have son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings.
20 They that come after him shall be astonied at his day, as they that went before were affrighted.
21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Just because you may be going through a test, doesnt mean you have done something wrong. Even our own friends can say things that dont make sense. This is why, we must first turn to God, because he is the one that is control, and we must trust him. Yes, it is difficult at times, to trust in God. But that’s why we must have faith in Him. Lean not to your our understanding of what is happening, because if you do, you will be disappointed. Seek ye first His Kingdom, have you sacrificed today?

  23. 11 Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet.

12 His strength shall be hungerbitten, and destruction shall be ready at his side.

13 It shall devour the strength of his skin: even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength.

It amazes me that when a child of God is going through trials and tribulations, the world is ready to devour what is left of their strength and there hope. It is amazing throughout this chapter that a friend of Job would even speak negative toward a man that God said was he was perfect and upright and he feared the Lord. But when the world gathered around to see things go wrong they seem to be like a pack of wolves hunting the scent of fresh blood and going in for the kill. But we know the rest of the story, Job hangs in there and begins to be blessed beyond when he started his trial. That is what the goodness and faithfulness of God will do when you trust him all the way to the end.

    I love the Kingdom!

  24. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

We are responsible for keeping our light burning, for keeping our relationship with Jesus alive. We can live in his light and blessings or we can live in the darkness of this world. We can’t follow our own wisdom and counsel no matter who we are, rather we must seek Him and his counsel, his word and his ways to keep his light on our path.

  25. “Then Bildad the Shuhite replied, “Job, when will you stop these speeches of yours? Be reasonable! Then we can talk.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭18:1-2‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Things aren’t always as they seem. And we would be foolish to give a response before we have heard the entire situation.

“To answer before listening is foolish and shameful.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:13‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

  26. 6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.

It is our duty to keep the light in our tabernacle burning, fire in our altar. My altar is effected by my actions, my attitude, and the things I do and don’t do. So I must take an account each day of those actions and how they effected my altar.

Now is not the time to allow that flame to grow dim. The key to keeping that fire hot, is found in the line of this song. PRAYER is the key!

May the fire on my altar never burn out, make me a house of prayer.

  27. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

This statement made against Job was false.
God is not testing Job’s wickedness but his faithfulness.

“And the Lord said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭1:8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Could God say the same of us?
Are we living our life in such a way that if God was to bring each one of us to the point that He has brought Job, could He have the same confidence in us to know that even then our faith would hold?

    – Where does your relationship with God stand?
    – How’s your altar?
    – Will your faith hold up in the middle of adversity?
    – When it seems everyone is against you and talking about you, will you continue to live for Him wholeheartedly?

  28. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

A life without God is a miserable one.

  29. For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare.

9 The gin shall take him by the heel, and the robber shall prevail against him.

10 The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way.

  30. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.
6 The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him.
7 The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down.

We are the light of the world and it’s our responsibility to not let the fire burn out. We have to keep adding the Word and Prayer to keep the fire ignited!!! We can’t blame no one but ourselves if we don’t have the fire lit. We all carry that responsibility. We must leader ourselves. Our biggest adversary is sometimes ourselves. We have to discipline our bodies, mind so we can keep the 🔥 burning!!!

  31. My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
    Job 17:11 KJV
Once again Job’s speech is filled with hopelessness. He sees no future for his life. We all need something to look forward to, we need a dream to pursue. Hopefully, it’s a God given dream and not one born of the flesh. Finally, Job can’t even meditate on something worthwhile because even the thoughts of his heart are broken off. Job needs a revival of hope, a dream and a purpose!

  32. Not everyone is going to give you an encouraging word. We must learn how to encourage ourselves in the Lord. Don’t allow the things of this world to get you down. We are mighty through God.

  33. “How long will you hunt for words and continue these speeches? Do some clear thinking and show understanding and then we can talk. “Indeed, the light of the wicked will be put out, And the flame of his fire will not shine.
    JOB 18:2‭, ‬5 AMP

  34. “The light of the wicked indeed goes out, And the flame of his fire does not shine. The light is dark in his tent, And his lamp beside him is put out.
    Job 18:5‭-‬6 NKJV
    https://bible.com/bible/114/job.18.5-6.NKJV

There us only one way to keep the fire burning and the light shining. Keep coming to the altar. The altar is where the fire pours out to consume the sacrifice. Fresh fire requires fresh sacrifice. We are called to be the light of the world. We cannot shine if our fire has gone one. Every day, every day we must go before the altar of the Lord and burn with His fire. That way we will be able to lead other to Jesus.

  35. 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

You know when we raise our voices and hearts in the presence of our enemy he will flee! Jesus will make a way in the midst of our enemies. We recieve what God has in store for us. Jesus name!

  36. You may tear out your hair in anger, but will that destroy the earth? Will it make the rocks tremble?
    Job 18:4 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.18.4.NLT

Anger/passion comes from God, but what are you doing with it? Are you sitting around twiddling your thumbs or feeling sorry for yourself or are you being productive and putting that passion/anger/fire to use? We have plenty to get mad about in this age but what if we take that energy and turn it around to something positive? How many people can be pulled out of the fire if we take that passion to the altar and war for these people. What ministries can be birthed if we take that burden/passion and come up with a solution instead of pointing out problems??? Thank You, Jesus for this fire burning inside me! I’m passionate about You!!

  37. 3 Wherefore are we counted as beasts, and reputed vile in your sight? 4 He teareth himself in his anger: shall the earth be forsaken for thee? and shall the rock be removed out of his place? 5 Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine.

Bildad confirms that Jobs response was offensive to him and their friends. I can see why Bildad chose these words, as if no one can talk sense into Job then the wake up call of death and hell is the next approach. Job has spoken of wanting death, but is he really prepared? Bildad calls him out. The point of us being children of God is that we act like it, serve others, represent godliness, holiness and show others the path of salvation. Sin leads to death which resides in an eternal hell. Even in hard times we cannot get carried away in anger and despair because it will lead us away from God’s calling. Job is in a dark place and like the priests in the tabernacle kept the candles lit, Job must keep that fire burning within him.

  38. ”Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.”

Throughout scripture we see that God is preparing a place for His people. ”

    John 14:23
”And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

Yet there is also a ”place” prepared for the unrighteous a place of tormenting. The crazy thing us that millions of people desire to not live in the place of blessings and settle for les .
Lord teach me to live in blessingd

  39. 21 Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.

Being condemned for what he speaks. He’s at a point where his friends even doubt he’s right.
