Job 35

Elihu spake moreover, and said,

Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.

10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.

13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

15 But now, because it is not so, he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth it not in great extremity:

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.

  1. Verses 9-10 CEV “In times of trouble, everyone begs the mighty God to have mercy. But after their Creator helps them through hard times, they forget about him,”. These verses reminded me of the story of the ten lepers, as they begged for mercy and yet once received, they forgot to come back and give thanks to the one who showed that mercy. As one of the songs that we sing says “You ought to praise the Lord while you have the chance”. We must never forget where our help comes from.

Psalm 103:2 NLT “Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.” Same verse MSG “O my soul, bless God. From head to toe, I’ll bless his holy name! O my soul, bless God, don’t forget a single blessing!”

  2. 3Yet you ask him, ‘What profit is it to me,
and what do I gain by not sinning?’ NIV

Elihu again is talking to the companions of Job and speaks the statement “What profit is it to me and what do I gain by not sinning?”

That is the easiest question to answer and I simply reply to his question with this question”what does it profit me to and what do you gain by sinning?” You gain simply an eternity of torment and gnashing of the teeth upon your soul because you will spend eternity in Hell. For you will be judged before God and most certainly will hear- Depart from me thou worker of iniquity for I knew you not. You will surely bring death because scripture tells us that the wages of sin is death. You will give up an eternity being able to worship and praise God in the eternal glory and never see the greatness of heaven.

So many people play what I like to call spiritual roulette. They take their chance to walk as close to sin and might even taste it to see how it is without saying they are truly sinning. But once you cross the line, even just for mere moments, you are still sinning. We have to make up our minds either we are walking the straight and narrow or are we going to live like the world. Remember we as children of God can not live hap-hazardously and still think we will be saved for eternity.

How do we stay saved- repent daily, seeking first the kingdom of God, and living according to the word of God. Be full of compassion and love to show toward our brethren and we will reap the benefits of God.

    I love the Kingdom!

  3. But it is wrong to say God doesn’t listen, to say the Almighty isn’t concerned. You say you can’t see him, but he will bring justice if you will only wait. You say he does not respond to sinners with anger and is not greatly concerned about wickedness. But you are talking nonsense, Job. You have spoken like a fool.”
    Job 35:13‭-‬16 NLT

Everyone needs that friend who will support you, but not allow you to carry on if you’ve gone too far.
We need people in our lives that will speak truth and point us back to Christ.

  4. “And when they cry out, God does not answer because of their pride.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭35:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Humility first. It’s a kingdom thing.
What Jesus went through was all humility, we know he’s the king of kings the Lord of lords the alpha the omega. When he can to earth in a human form that was humility, when he through all the people and they mocked and spit on him that was humility. The least we could do is humble ourselves and pray. Humility it’s a kingdom thing. I want God to hear my voice when I cry unto Him I want to serve the Kingdom because he deserves so much more than what I have to offer but it’s all I can do.

  5. 9. People cry out when they are oppressed. They groan beneath the power of the mighty.

    12. And when they cry out, God does not answer because of their pride. NLT

    James 4:
    6. But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. KJV

    John 9:
    31. Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth. KJV

  6. If you sin, how does that affect God? Even if you sin again and again, what effect will it have on him? If you are good, is this some great gift to him? What could you possibly give him? No, your sins affect only people like yourself, and your good deeds also affect only humans.
    Job 35:6‭-‬8 NLT

I know God doesn’t owe me nothin, and I owe him everything, And I never thought the words Good Deeds could irritate me so much! I think when we are in the world and we stop and give money to a person holding a sign, what’s our motive, if I gave money as a sinner, I had a motive or I was like look at me, I always had motives! But if I love Jesus the way I say I do, and I do! I still check my motives, but it is a different feeling helping those who cant help themselves, And it’s nice to serve others! It’s not a good deed, it’s serving, because I’m doing it unto the Lord not unto Nora!
This man right here is getting on my nerves!!

What profit shall I have; let me tell you. The profit is eternal life and being in the glory of God. I have found that living of the world has gained me nothing. Yeah I had a season, but guess what. It came to a screeching halt: it took me a long time to realize that my sin was pride in the fact that I wanted to serve myself. God finally told me it was time to try something new. Well guess what; I have gained a lot from my new life. After struggling for so long trying to do it on my own; I have finally come to the point that I know I can’t do it on my own. There is nothing that the world can offer me to turn from my God. I’ve done that to many times for the most selfish reason. Am I perfect no, but with God by me and in me I have worked and am striving to be that man God has called me to be. Thank you Jesus.

  8. Job 35: 9-10 [Amp] Because of the multitude of oppressions the people cry out; they cry for help because of the violence of the mighty. [10] But no one say’s Where is my God my Maker, Who give songs of rejoicing in the night.
[Acts 16:25] But about midnight, as Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the [ other] prisoners were listening to them. Keep on believing and trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ. Break through those storms in prayer and fasting. There a storm coming and God is going to break the chains. Give God all praise and Glory.

  9. For you also ask, ‘What’s in it for me? What’s the use of living a righteous life?’
    Job 35:3 NLT

What’s the point anyways?? Well a question like this sound to me like you wouldn’t value your soul much maybe because of pride, or maybe because you’d have a problem with love. But as someone once shared with me, if you have a problem with love its probably because you don’t have a relationship with God.

We must have relationship with God and we must build an altar – these are the foundations on which we secure our salvation. Seek first and seek daily, the Kingdom of God. Your eternal salvation depends on it. But it’s never just you, living a righteous life means you also have the opportunity to be a light and an example to others around you.

  10. Job 35
10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night

There are times in our life just as Job…..we search for the answer……we toss and turn in the middle of the night…….we loose vision of the great picture….we even say where is my Maker yet He is right there in the midst of the pain the heartaches . He is my Song in the middle of the night. He is my hope when hope seems to be not found any where He shows right up in the midst of unexpected ways. In the smile of a stranger …in a kind word from a little child …in a touch of the most feeble . He gives laughter right in the midst of the trial and reminds me He is My Song.

  11. God loves us and Care for us we must come humbly to him
Remember God so love the word that he gave his son

  12. 35:14 Although thou sales shalt not see him, yet judgment is before him, therefore trust thou in him.
    —-
    Wait upon the Lord.
Seek his face, so you’ll know what’s for you to do
Once you know, do it and trust. He will do his part.

  13. 2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?
3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

The Bible tells us that our righteousness is as filthy rags. That scripture in and of itself what seemed to say that we will never be good enough, but if you combine that with those other scriptures that tell us we are the apple of God’s eye His image the scripture will have a different meaning. personally I believe that the scripture is telling us not to count our own righteousness because without Christ it is to no avail. Righteousness should be nothing more than just being obedient to the word and the will of God. How do you look closely at the Bible, it teaches theory important but few principles. Being humble And being obedient. She really is that simple. If you keep your attitude low and your obedience high you can always on the right side of Christ. It’s not about what we have or what we can do, it’s about what we are instructed to do and the attitude in which we obey it with.

  14. 8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art; and thy righteousness may profit the son of man.

Everyone of our actions has a reaction (consequence) we need to be careful of what we do because if we go against Gods word and his righteousness we may just hurt somebody else in the process even if we were doing what we wanted to hurt ourselves. But when we are Holy and Righteous we can positively impact anyone and everyone.

  15. Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

  16. 12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

    Pride
Pride is the original sin. That is what got Lucifer cast from heaven, like a bolt of lightning. Pride, is the sin that all others are the fruit of. Pride, is what tells us that we deserve more than we do.
Humility, is the antidote for pride. Humility is a fruit of The Spirit. Only with humility can Jesus hear us.
In Luke, the difference between the Publican’s prayer and the Phasisee’s prayer, the Pharisee prayer with pride, exalting himself, rather than with humility, admitting his faults. That is where so many of us get into so much trouble, we weigh our good in with our bad, or we compare ourselves to others, and lose sight that sin is sin. It cannot be disguised. Any sin is a disqualification. Any sin damns is to Hell. We are all born into sin, and sharpen into iniquity. Jesus wants us to humble ourselves and seek him.

  17. Job 35:10, “But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night:”

I am so Thankful I know who “God my maker” is. He gives me a song in the “night season.” I Hope in Him. I Trust in Him. He is my Strength and Song and Salvation.

    Psalms 42:8 & 11
    8) Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.
    11) Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God; for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Isaiah 12:2, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and song; he also is become my salvation.

  18. But it is wrong to say God doesn’t listen, to say the Almighty isn’t concerned.
    Job 35:13 NLT

How often do our troubles blind us to the fact that God cares? When we don’t get the answers we want, at the time that we want them, we often respond by accusing God of not listening to us. I wonder how many of those times are actually times when God is answering prayers but we don’t recognize it.

I believe that many of the things we struggle with are answers in disguise. In fact, in our flesh, we would probably not pray at all if we realized what the answers to those prayers would look like. How does one develop a forgiving and a compassionate heart, except he first have something to forgive? How do you get understanding, except you first feel lost? Longsuffering? Meekness? Gentleness? Hope? Joy? Peace? Faith? These are all forged in the fire. They don’t usually come quickly or easily.

We don’t become like Christ until we fight the battles He faced. We don’t become a witness until we have testimonies to witness about. We can’t show ourselves faithful until we’ve wrestled with temptations handpicked to lure us away. (But, because God cares, He always makes a way of escape.)

We need to stop looking at our situations as something that proves God isn’t listening or doesn’t care, and start asking ourselves how God maybe using this situation to answer prayers we’ve already prayed.

This we know, because His Word is true: God loves us, and He is attentive to our cries. He is working in us both to will and to do of His good pleasure. He will never leave us or forsake us, and He is working for our good. He is the author and the finisher of our faith; and whatever we are going through, He is right in the middle of it making us what we’ve asked Him to make us to be–His profitable servants.

  19. 8No, your sins affect only people like yourself,
and your good deeds also affect only humans.

Isn’t great, you are responsible for your own sins you commit. Be glad you don’t have to worry about someone else’s sins. But, Jesus took upon himself to carry your sins and he paid the ultimate price for it. Give thanks to Jesus everyday for his mercy.

Be mindful your sins and good deeds do affect those around you.

  20. 13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Even in trails, trust God. So often we forget who is in control around here. It is God Almighty. Remember who to speak too in all times of life. Seek ye first God and His Kingdom. Have you asked him about today in what you should do or say? Speak life into someone, be bold for Jesus, be a reflection of light to those around you.

  21. What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned….

Elihu accused Job of a cold calculation; of saying that he denied God’s moral order and said that there was no point to sinning or not sinning.
Once again Elihu puts words into Job’s mouth, and in the process not only misquotes him but misrepresents his position.
Elihu had missed Job’s point, that he wanted to be vindicated because he did believe God was just. Of course Job, in his struggle to understand what God was doing, had sent out two signals, one of which Elihu, like the others, had not been able to hear

  22. Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be unto thee? and, What profit shall I have, if I be cleansed from my sin?

4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.

5 Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds which are higher than thou.

6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

  23. ““Because of the multitudes of oppressions the people cry out; They cry for help because of the [violent] arm of the mighty. But no one says, ‘Where is God my Maker, Who gives songs [of rejoicing] in the night, Who teaches us more than the beasts of the earth And makes us wiser than the birds of the heavens?’ The people cry out, but He does not answer Because of the pride of evil men.”
    ‭‭JOB‬ ‭35:9-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Many times man will seek God only in their time of need. And because they refuse to recognize Him as the Maker, the Creator, the One who brings joy and gives wisdom, because they will not recognize Him for who He is, it does not come from a heart of sincerity.

I’ve heard they saying “I guess all we have left to do now is pray” as if He was the last resort. That while they are looking around, to see how they may escape their troubles, they forget to look to the hills whence all real help cometh.

When we don’t recognize Him for who He is; we are full pride.
When we only choose Him as a last resort; we are full of pride.

Often times we are so full of ourselves and pride that we are empty on God.

We must humble ourselves, recognize Him for all His greatness and seek Him First!

  24. 10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?

We must count our many blessings even when we think things couldn’t be worse. There is still something to praise God for. (And things can certainly be worse) Sometimes we have to stop and encourage ourselves in the Lord, focus on Him and his goodness and mercy and not on our troubles. Help us Lord to look up to you- our help is from the Lord.

  25. 16 But you are talking nonsense, Job.
You have spoken like a fool.”

We have to be careful of letting our emotions get in the way of Gods Word! We can’t let our feelings dictate what Gods Word is saying to us. We have to listen and obey what He says rather than what we say. If you need a Word from God just read His Word, it’s very clear on what and not do.

  26. 14 You say you can’t see him, but he will bring justice if you will only wait.

There isn’t many one worded phrases that has such an impact on a person then the word “wait”.

Children wait to open presents on Christmas day, seniors count down the days to graduation excited for the next chapter of their life, and the young adult waits to hear those church wedding bells with their soulmate, we face “waiting” at all phases of our life. Yet, why does it not get any easier!

Sometimes in great distress, we all feel that God is far away. It does not mean that we have any less faith in His ability to answer our prayers, we know that God is working everything out to our benefit. We have to rest in that fact.

We will all have moments of weakness, but never stopped trusting in God.

  27. “Elihu continued, “Job, do you think it’s fair for you to say, ‘God will clear me of all charges’? You ask him, ‘What good is it for me not to sin? What do I get by not sinning?’ “I’d like to reply to you and to your friends who are with you.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭35:1-4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

When people do not understand things they tend to criticize it. I have learned that first hand. I have also felt the hurt that comes with it. When we don’t understand the situation, it is best to keep quiet and not give a piece of our mind. The piece of our mind that we are offering might be hurtful or often times a distorted view of the truth.

  28. MSG –
9-15 “When times get bad, people cry out for help.
They cry for relief from being kicked around,
But never give God a thought when things go well,
when God puts spontaneous songs in their hearts,
When God sets out the entire creation as a science classroom,
using birds and beasts to teach wisdom.
People are arrogantly indifferent to God—
until, of course, they’re in trouble,
and then God is indifferent to them.
    There’s nothing behind such prayers except panic;
the Almighty pays them no mind.
So why would he notice you
just because you say you’re tired of waiting to be heard,
Or waiting for him to get good and angry
and do something about the world’s problems?

16 “Job, you talk sheer nonsense—
    nonstop nonsense!”

How many people do we know that don’t give God the time of day until something happens, and then they are appauled when they feel like they don’t get the answer they were expecting.

We all live in that realm at one time or another in our lives. Expecting things from the Almighty Creator, yet living for ourselves and not fully committing to Him.

It’s time we get off the teter totter of life and commit our ways to the Lord and allow our relationship to develop to a relationship of fully trusting the Lord regardless. It’s hard when you face a trial that you don’t understand, but when you blast about how unfair God is to others, shows lack of trust in your relationship with Him and destroys any hope of those whom you have ranted and raved to of them turning to God.

We must become like Paul, Philippians 4:11 Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content.

  29. iLove the Kingdom
Job 35:6 If you sin, how does that affect God? Even if you sin again and again, what effect will it have on him?
Job 35:7 If you are good, is this some great gift to him? What could you possibly give him?

This is true. There are many folks out there who just “give up” and think they are somehow just going to “hurt God” and go all out in sin. Maybe this is a self defense mechanism. Kinda like those folks who are just “hunting” for a reason to get offended. You have to cross every t and dot every i and they still find a reason to get bitter. None of this matters to God. Some folks think they are at the right hand of the father and they are doing him a favor coming to church. Come on y’all, God doesn’t need us but we need God!

  30. FIRST THE KINGDOM
THE GRAVE DANGER FOR SMOOTH TALKERS

13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

Many people make light of the statement “we have 2 ears and 1 mouth for a reason”. However we find repeatedly in the scriptures the importance of hearing more than speaking. We find this truth again here in the book of Job. “GOD will NOT hear Vanity”

    Vanity; what is it?

Vanity -1: inflated pride in oneself or one’s appearance : CONCEIT
2: something that is vain, empty, or valueless (Webster)

Vanity – shâvᵉʼ, shawv; or shav; from the same as H7722 in the sense of desolating; evil (as destructive), literally (ruin) or morally (especially guile); figuratively idolatry (as false, subjective), uselessness (as deceptive, objective; also adverbially, in vain):—false(-ly), lie, lying, vain, vanity. (H7723 Strongs)

THE GRAVE DANGER FOR SMOOTH TALKERS who always have a reason or excuse for their dilemma is that GOD does not hear their plea. GOD knows the heart of the speaker, while other men can only know the words of the mouth. Therefore man is deceived when he is able to impress, persuade and lead others with the speech of his mouth.

GOD is not impressed with our words. He gives us the knowledge and ability to speak them. GOD is impressed by our FAITH. Faithfulness to HIM and HIS Kingdom. We may convince or impress others with our words, but GOD will not hear or regard them if they are not PURE from a PURE Heart which HE knows.

    Job himself confessed this fact:

Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

King David also had a deep understanding of the importance of his words before GOD.

Psalms 39:1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

    The apostles also offer insight:

    1Thessalonians 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.

We are wise to listen 2 times more than we speak. This is a challenge of humility for Leaders in the church seeing that we Lead with our Speech.

  31. Job 35:13-14

    13) Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.

    14) Although thou sayist thou shalt not see him, yet judgement is before him; therefore trust thou in him.

  32. “If you sin, how does that affect God? Even if you sin again and again, what effect will it have on him? If you are good, is this some great gift to him? What could you possibly give him? No, your sins affect only people like yourself, and your good deeds also affect only humans.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭35:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

You can choose to do three things in this life: the good, the bad, or obey the Word of God.

Bad people can do good things.
Some good people do good but still disobey God.
But a child of God obeys God’s word and His commandments.

God isn’t pleased by our works but by our obedience. It pleases Him when we obey Him because it shows Him how much we love Him. That’s what makes Christians different from good people. Jesus doesn’t only want good works, but a relationship. If we can’t love Him here on earth, we won’t love Him through eternity. So let’s give Jesus our trust and get closer to Him. It’s a relationship you’ll never regret.

  33. “But you are talking nonsense, Job. You have spoken like a fool.””
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭35:16‬ ‭NLT

Be careful about what you say, sometimes it’s not wise. Also sometimes others twist the words or meanings and can do more harm than good. Just be wise and think before you speak.

    • 2 Thinkest thou this to be right, that thou saidst, My righteousness is more than God’s?

Mans silliness often humors me. We are not the source of righteousness. God is the source and we are the conduits He chooses to use. Our righteousness will never compare to the pureness that He is.

God is and will always be greater than we are.

  34. And when they cry out, God does not answer because of their pride. But it is wrong to say God doesn’t listen, to say the Almighty isn’t concerned.
    Job 35:12‭-‬13 NLT
Elihu makes an interesting point, how God does not answer the wicked’s prayers but He does indeed hear them. To get our prayers answered, He tells us to ask in faith, to ask according to His will and His Word.

  35. 9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make the oppressed to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
    10 But none saith, Where is God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;

So many oppressed call out in anger and blame God. And they don’t say where is my Creator, God! They would rather scream, yell, and blame Him.
How many times are we guilty of doing the same thing? How many times do we have a bad day and immediately blame Hom rather than remembering all the good things He’s done or thanking Him for all of his blessings.
What do you do?? What do you represent?? Who do you turn to first? The enemy or the Almighty??

  36. You say he does not respond to sinners with anger and is not greatly concerned about wickedness.

Revenge is the Lord’s. It should not concern us what happens or how the wicked dont get published. That is for the Lord to judge. The word does tell us that He is slow to anger and great in mercy. We therefore should not be quick to judge others by saying how come they haven gotten what they deserve, or their punishment? The Lord knows. The word says be not deceived God cannot be mocked. Whatever a man sows that he will reap. It is just that God knows his time for everything and His will is that none should perish but that all may proceed to repentance. It may just be that we may need that time of mercy one day that we may repent. We need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

  37. “When times get bad, people cry out for help. They cry for relief from being kicked around, But never give God a thought when things go well, when God puts spontaneous songs in their hearts, When God sets out the entire creation as a science classroom, using birds and beasts to teach wisdom. People are arrogantly indifferent to God— until, of course, they’re in trouble, and then God is indifferent to them. There’s nothing behind such prayers except panic; the Almighty pays them no mind. So why would he notice you just because you say you’re tired of waiting to be heard, Or waiting for him to get good and angry and do something about the world’s problems?

Its so backwards. Do you not say thank you to someone who gives you a gift? And try your best not to ask people for help? If we are able to talk to ordinary people in this way why are we not able to do this to the almighty?
