Job 36

Elihu also proceeded, and said,

Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.

He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yea, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted.

And if they be bound in fetters, and be holden in cords of affliction;

Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

13 But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them.

14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean.

15 He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression.

16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness.

17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee.

18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee.

19 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

20 Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place.

21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

23 Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity?

24 Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold.

25 Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off.

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

27 For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof:

28 Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

29 Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle?

30 Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.

31 For by them judgeth he the people; he giveth meat in abundance.

32 With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the cloud that cometh betwixt.

33 The noise thereof sheweth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapour.

  1. But by means of their suffering, he rescues those who suffer. For he gets their attention through adversity. “God is leading you away from danger, Job, to a place free from distress. He is setting your table with the best food.
    Job 36:15‭-‬16 NLT

Elihu is trying to comfort Job with reasoning and at the same time stand up for God and righteousness. God will make a way and rescue the suffering. He will take care of those that have dedicated themselves to Him.

  2. he shows them the reason. He shows them their sins of pride. He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil.
    Job 36:9‭-‬10 NLT

  3. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    CHOICES

11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

Life is filled with challenges and choices. We are taught from a young age the principal of discipline. As a newborn; it seems that parents and family are disciplined by the schedule and desires of a the baby. However as a toddler, the roles change to begin to re-image the child from being the initiator to being the responder.

This process is intriguing at least, as we grow and learn to consider life and the process of discipleship. I remember as a child the house was very peaceful when my sister and I would simply obey the rules and instructions of our mother. However if we did not obey there were consequences, usually involving discipline; either physical or emotional. These disciplines were initiated or avoided by the CHOICES that we made. Either to Obey or Disobey.

As I type this today; the options seem very simple.

    OBEY = Prosper
    DISOBEY = Painful

Elihu seems to reiterate his point here that, the law of GOD would apply to Job seeing his painful calamity and the absence of prosperity. Which would be a wise conclusion in most cases. However, we have the opportunity to look through the natural eye or the supernatural eye. GOD gives us this privilege to make the CHOICES necessary to SERVE HIM and HIS Kingdom.

Make the CHOICES today that will build and invest in our future to prosper with JESUS as we Seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD.

  4. Here Elihu took a deep breath, but kept going: “Stay with me a little longer. I’ll convince you. There’s still more to be said on God’s side. I learned all this firsthand from the Source; everything I know about justice I owe to my Maker himself. Trust me, I’m giving you undiluted truth; believe me, I know these things inside and out.
    Job 36:1‭-‬4 MSG

We can think we know all there is to know about God, but there is always something new, he can teach us about one thing today and teach us again tomorrow and we learn a whole new lesson! God wrapped himself in flesh and became our everything, I beleive Elihu had very good intentions, but God dont need us to defend him, and we dont need to be whooped by well meaning words! Everyone seems to be unaware that Job is Righteous and he is innocent, but this man has so much knowledge, and is Gods self proclaimed mouth peice, defending God, well how come since “God is showing him everything” he dont know Job was innocent! He stood up in pride, Bro Morgan said anger is the root of Pride. We have to be careful that our well doing dont turn into pride, and make sure we are careful when we speak. Lord, please help me to know my place and understand that you are God!

  5. 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

I like the way Elihu puts it here. If we obey God there is no doubt that we will live in prosperity and blessings. God is just to forgive us as long as we are coming before the throne of Grace and Mercy. I find that the more I obey God and his word, the more he amazes me in what is provided. Samuel made a great statement in 1 Samuel 15:22-

And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

We definitely must obey the word to be blessed. When we do not heed the word of God Elihu stated we will eventually die by the sword. We can not sow discord or dishonor or even rebellion and reap honor or blessing of God. We have to maintain a spirit of humility.

    Hebrews 4:11 states-
Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will perish by following their example of disobedience.

We have to keep seeking first the kingdom of God and we will find the blessings of God will be continuous. We have to keep pushing forward to reach all that we can.

    I love the Kingdom!

  6. “Look, God is all-powerful. Who is a teacher like him? No one can tell him what to do, or say to him, ‘You have done wrong.’ Instead, glorify his mighty works, singing songs of praise.
    Job 36:22‭-‬24 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.36.22-24.NLT

There is nobody that can teach like God can. I have heard people say that God was wrong. I’ve asked how; their response has been He created me. Why am I here; what is my purpose? The only thing I could say at the time was I don’t know, but I’m here for you. That has changed; now if somebody was to ask me why am I here. I would simply respond with; seek God and He will reveal to you what He will have you do in this temporal form. God is the only one that knows why we are here and we should praise Him for everything that goes on in our lives. Job has been praising God through all that he has been put through. Good or bad praise Him. God will show grace to each that give Him praise and seek Him all day and night. I know that I still have much to learn and do, but it is through the grace of God that I’m capable of continuing my journey to enter into that great Kingdom He has built for me/us. All that diligently seek God and turn from the ways of this world can enter the Kingdom through the knowledge of God. Thank you Jesus for teaching me and giving me reason to praise you everyday.

  7. 21 Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.
22 Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him?

Teaching is one of my favorite professions. There’s something about passing down wisdom and knowledge to someone or a group of people that’s inticing and intriguing. Jesus is not only the savior of the world the greatest teacher. He spoke using object lessons and unorthodox ways how to get people’s attention. I believe that if we are made in the image of God we should always be teaching our younger generations just like Moses was commanded to after they flead Egypt. Teaching them the ways of God

  8. f they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

  9. Job 36

Angry people without God pile grievance upon grievance,
always blaming others for their troubles.
Living it up in sexual excesses,
    virility wasted, they die young.
But those who learn from their suffering,
    God delivers from their suffering.

Our world lives this way. Seeking anything that appeases the fleshly desires. They take no heed to the word of God. They say it’s ok because they are young. Taking in no regard the consequences . If they do consider the consequences then there’s another alternative offered by the world. It’s a vicious cycle that controls anyone no matter their age.
The beginning of this verse says angry people without God. Yet we in the church are guilty many times to allow anger to build we begin to point fingers at others for our situation. When did we start believing that sin was no longer sin.
Suffering does bring knowledge but unless we allow that knowledge to be a part of our life we will not gain any wisdom from the suffering.
God’s righteousness not ours . If we live thinking it’s ok to sin God will forgive me then we are crucifying Jesus all over again.
We must learn we must repent we must hold fast to God’s Word. God gives us the liberty to choose. I pray we choose wisely .
There is suffering in sin I’ve seen it heard the cries and watched dreams and life’s die. It may feel good for the moment but the consequences are eternal.

Psalm 139:23-24 King James Version (KJV)

23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:

24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

  10. “If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant. But if they refuse to listen to him, they will cross over the river of death, dying from lack of understanding.
    Job 36:11‭-‬12‭ NLT

We face choices everyday that determine the course of our life. I once heard a sermon from Bro. Lee Stoneking saying, “God’s choice for you is based on the decisions you make.” If we choose obedience, then God’s will is able to be accomplished and we can walk in His favor. If we disobey, we may be robbing ourselves of God’s favor and blessings that He initially had for us. Instead, we may end up facing discipline or unintended troubles.

  11. “God is mighty, but he does not despise anyone! He is mighty in both power and understanding. He does not let the wicked live but gives justice to the afflicted. He never takes his eyes off the innocent, but he sets them on thrones with kings and exalts them forever. If they are bound in chains and caught up in a web of trouble, he shows them the reason. He shows them their sins of pride. He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil. “If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant. But if they refuse to listen to him, they will cross over the river of death, dying from lack of understanding. For the godless are full of resentment. Even when he punishes them, they refuse to cry out to him for help. They die when they are young, after wasting their lives in immoral living. But by means of their suffering, he rescues those who suffer. For he gets their attention through adversity. “Look, God is all-powerful. Who is a teacher like him? No one can tell him what to do, or say to him, ‘You have done wrong.’ Instead, glorify his mighty works, singing songs of praise. Everyone has seen these things, though only from a distance. “Look, God is greater than we can understand. His years cannot be counted.

  12. 9 Then he sheweth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded.

11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.
12 But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge.

We are given the chance to know our sins and wrong choices. We are given the chance to repent and turn from those carnal ways. Sin has it’s pleasures for a season and can destroy us in the end, but God offers life and life more abundantly when we choose his ways. I’m thankful he brought me out of the world. I did not understand the power of Satan until I knew the power of God.

  13. ““God is leading you away from danger, Job, to a place free from distress. He is setting your table with the best food.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭36:16‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There’s a treasure beyond your trial!

Before reading this verse a few verses above it talks about how when you’ve completely given up you refuse to cry out to God. That makes sense because the ultimate root of sin is pride. A person would have too much pride to call out to God. That’s when we know they’ve completely backslid. But when the walls fall down we see a slight change and that’s humility because they’re allowing God to move on them. Important thing here is to pray stronger or just the same alone than in front of others.

If you make it, WHEN you make it through that trial then you shall see the treasure. God doesn’t intend for you to fail he wants to bless you and give you his favor on your job in your schools in your home. So build relationship with god and this trial will only be for a season not a lifetime. Get the treasure!
    Bless you in Jesus name

  14. 4 For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.
5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom.
6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor.

My God is awesome. The past few days I have had the opportunity to speak with several people, who needed a little encouragement. And as we talked, I realized what God was doing in my life. And as I realized that God has saved me from so many things, and how he is guiding my steps.
When we trust in Hom and seek after Him we then are blessed. Praise be to God for His love and mercy, his strength and power.

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  15. 9 Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength.

Many people are putting their trust in the wealth they can obtain in this world. I see many families who enroll their children in every sport . Yet when it comes to the things of the Lord, faithfulness, relationship with Jesus, building the Kingdom through giving, they are so lax. God help us to recognize only what’s done for God will last.

Enroll your students in bible boot camp, enroll them in bible quizzing, give them something that will way outlast the sports season. Give them something that will last for eternity. Make your families salvation your daily goal not jobs or money.

  16. He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

It’s amazing what just obeying God can do. Likewise, what disobedience does.

  17. Job 36: 28-29 [Amp] Which the skies pour down and drop abundantly upon [ the multitudes] mankind. [29] Not only that, can anyone one understand the spreading of the clouds or the thundering of His pavilion? [ Ps.18:11] He made darkness His secret hiding place; as His pavilion
[ His canopy] round about Him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. It is God Who sits above the circle ( the horizon) of the earth, and it’s inhabitants are like grasshoppers; it is He Who stretches out the heavens like [ gauze] curtains and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in it. I am your God , I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes I will help you. “Halaula “

  18. iLove the Kingdom
1 Elihu also proceeded, and said, 2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

You gotta be careful out there y’all. There are a lot of folks who talk like Elihu does. They don’t prophesy, but they proph-ah-lie. “God told me this and God told me that”. Caution! Danger! Watch out, test the spirit and tell the pastor is always good advice.

A few things to note here. Elihu glorifies God with the Word of God, that’s true. The issue is does Elihu hint at Job being an hypocrite in verse 13?

We must always use the Word of God in the right context and not use it to cut the innocent. Countless lives over the years have been mangled by misuse of the scriptures. Don’t drink the kool-aid y’all, try the Living Water.

  19. If they are bound in chains and caught up in a web of trouble, he shows them the reason. He shows them their sins of pride. He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil…
But by means of their suffering, he rescues those who suffer. For he gets their attention through adversity.
    Job 36:8‭-‬10‭, ‬15 NLT

God will go to great lengths to get our attention. Often, however, while we are complaining that He is not hearing our prayers and coming to our rescue, it is really us who are not listening.

Perhaps, we started to live in ease. We forgot that we owed our very lives to the One who saved us. We got lazy in our prayers, and our ears became deaf to the voice of conviction. We began to neglect things we ought not and to allow things to creep into our lives which we should never have entertained.

Like a child who resists obeying a calm parent until they are screaming irately, we learn to tune out the warning whispers of our God. Our deaf ears and distracted eyes don’t turn back to seek Him until life is spiraling out of our control.

Is it cruelty or love that causes a parent to confiscate their teen’s cell phone and ground them “FOR LIFE!”? It depends on which one of them you ask. The teen insists the parent is cruel, unfair, uncaring. The terrified parent, who found the indecent selfies, will say they are doing the only thing they know to do to get their child’s attention and protect him/her from a cruel world.

Similarly, Job’s first friends described God as angry and vengeful toward sinners, but Elihu now describes Him as a loving and concerned God trying to get Job’s attention. Job, like many of us when suffering, is leaning toward the “unfair” verdict, but the Word (if we will hear it) will always give us the right perspective.

  20. “I am telling you nothing but the truth, for I am a man of great knowledge.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭36:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We could have all the knowledge in all this world but if we don’t have love we are nothing. Job’s friends we’re not building him up or encouraging him in a loving way. Jesus was the greatest example of this. He genuinely cared for those around him even his enemies. Let us model after Christ as we seek Him first.

“Now about food sacrificed to idols, we know that we all have knowledge [concerning this]. Knowledge [alone] makes [people self-righteously] arrogant, but love [that unselfishly seeks the best for others] builds up and encourages others to grow [in wisdom].”
    ‭‭1 CORINTHIANS‬ ‭8:1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“So then, let us pursue [with enthusiasm] the things which make for peace and the building up of one another [things which lead to spiritual growth].”
    ‭‭ROMANS‬ ‭14:19‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  21. ““If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant. But if they refuse to listen to him, they will cross over the river of death, dying from lack of understanding.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭36:11-12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We are given a choice, do you listen to God or do you refuse and do things your own way? God’s not going to make you listen to Him. He has given us the freedom to choose. He guides us but in the end we make the decision to listen or not. A lot of choices I made in the past did more harm than good because I chose to do as I pleased instead of asking myself what would please God. It’s easy to get caught up in thinking “well I prayed about it, and this decision is leaning in my favor so it must be God.” When in reality it’s our flesh that’s not under submission and we are forcing a door open that should have stayed closed. You have to live with the choices you make there is no do overs. You have to ask yourself are you ready to deal with the consequences of your decision. Is your altar in good condition? Have you been dying daily to get your flesh under submission so you can hear the voice of God. Are you making decisions pleasing to God or beneficial to you? Be blessed today!

  22. “…. He shows them their sins of pride. He gets their attention and commands that they turn from evil. “If they listen and obey God, they will be blessed with prosperity throughout their lives. All their years will be pleasant.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭36:9-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God will show you where you lack when you ask Him. He wants us to be blessed, have success in all we do, and live victoriously. There will be storms now and then, but if you remain in Him, you will always overcome.

  23. Job 36:9-12 (nlt)
    9) Then He declares to them (the true character of) their deeds and their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly (with presumption and notions of self-sufficiency).
    10) He opens their ears to instruction and discipline, and commands that they return from evil.
    11) If they hear and serve Him, they will end their days in prosperity and their years in pleasantness and joy.
    12) But if they do not hear and obey, they will die by the sword (of God’s destructive judgments) and they will die (in ignorance) without (true) knowledge.

God is always speaking to us, whether it be through Prayer, Reading His Word, or Hearing His Word Preached. The question is, “Are we listening when HE is speaking, or do we turn a deaf ear to HIM. Are we Obedient or Disobedient?”

We would do well to Open Our Ears and be Obedient to GOD when He is giving us instructions in our lives and disciplining (correcting) us. Then we can turn from our evil ways and serve HIM and live a prosperious and joyful life in HIM.

  24. Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea.
All darkness shall come to light no matter how good it may be hidden it shall be revealed.

  25. “He opens their ears to instruction and discipline, And commands that they return from evil. If they hear and serve Him, They will end their days in prosperity And their years in pleasantness and joy. But if they do not hear and obey, they will die by the sword [of God’s destructive judgments] And they will die [in ignorance] without [true] knowledge.”
    ‭‭JOB‬ ‭36:10-12‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Last night at ISM Bible study we talked about making decisions. We were given the choice between two different things, however, after making the decision we were given a little bit more information, which caused some to change their minds.

In this passage, there seems to be two options; to listen and obey and be blessed, or to do disobey and do our own thing and fall into destruction. The decision seems pretty easy to make. But it’s not just a one time decision, and because of that we often fail. We must wake up each and every day and make the choice to once again to seek FIRST the Kingdom.

Unfortunately in the world we live in, many do not know of the consequences of the choices they are making. And it is up to those of us that do know, to share the Word with them and give them the opportunity to decide themselves.

  26. Verse 26 MSG “Take a long, hard look. See how great he is—infinite, greater than anything you could ever imagine or figure out!” This verse made me go back to watching “VeggieTales” and the song that says “My God is so big, so strong and so mighty, There’s nothing my God cannot do”.

Psalm 145:3 CEV says “You are wonderful, Lord, and you deserve all praise, because you are much greater than anyone can understand.”

  27. 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

1 Samuel 15:22 New International Version (NIV)

    22 But Samuel replied:

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices
as much as in obeying the Lord?
To obey is better than sacrifice,
and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

Obey, and you shall see Gods hand. The opposite can be seen at the end of the life of Saul. Were he would make decisions that opposed the word of God. So obey, there’s a blessing in it.

  28. Job 36:26-28

    26) behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

    27) For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapour thereof;

    28) Which the clouds do drop and distil upon man abundantly.

  29. Following what is right is not always easy. There will be opposition here and there. We must not allow those things to hold us back. If we want to receive the prize, we must be willing to press on.

  30. 11 If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures.

Obedience brings blessings. Sin is not worth the reward of spending eternity in hell. It may be enjoyable for a moment but nes eternal life is at stake.

We should all strive to live a life if obedience to God. Not only will we experience prosperity in this lifetime but also in reality one to come

  31. 1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,

2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

Speaking on God’s behalf can be a dangerous thing. Make sure you are in the book speaking the Word. It is a dangerous thing to put men’s blood in your hands.

  32. 10 He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity.

Each of us has had to have our eyes and ears opened, that we might repent of our sins.

  33. He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous [those in right standing with Him]; But with kings upon the throne He has seated them forever, and they are exalted.
    JOB 36:7 AMP

God almighty! He never takes his eyes off the righteous. Like kings he place us on a throne forever and ever.

And if they are bound in bonds [of adversity], And held by cords of affliction, Then He declares to them [the true character of] their deeds And their transgressions, that they have acted arrogantly [with presumption and notions of self-sufficiency]. He opens their ears to instruction and discipline, And commands that they return from evil. If they hear and serve Him, They will end their days in prosperity And their years in pleasantness and joy.
    JOB 36:8‭-‬11 AMP

And if we are living a sinful life he will show us our wrong doings and bring us back from them if we are willing and we will live a happy prosperous life. Hallelujah!

  35. 2“Let me go on, and I will show you the truth. For I have not finished defending God!
3 I will present profound arguments for the righteousness of my Creator.
