Acts Chapter 17 – 17/40

Day 17: Acts Ch.17. Paul stops in Athens, studies his audience’s culture, and then begins to reason with the Greek  philosophers about the One True God.

Pray for God’s guidance to understand today’s culture and how we might more effectively share what God has done in our lives.

Acts 17

Now when they had passed through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where was a synagogue of the Jews:

And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.

And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

And when they had taken security of Jason, and of the other, they let them go.

10 And the brethren immediately sent away Paul and Silas by night unto Berea: who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews.

11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

12 Therefore many of them believed; also of honourable women which were Greeks, and of men, not a few.

13 But when the Jews of Thessalonica had knowledge that the word of God was preached of Paul at Berea, they came thither also, and stirred up the people.

14 And then immediately the brethren sent away Paul to go as it were to the sea: but Silas and Timotheus abode there still.

15 And they that conducted Paul brought him unto Athens: and receiving a commandment unto Silas and Timotheus for to come to him with all speed, they departed.

16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

18 Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans, and of the Stoicks, encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

19 And they took him, and brought him unto Areopagus, saying, May we know what this new doctrine, whereof thou speakest, is?

20 For thou bringest certain strange things to our ears: we would know therefore what these things mean.

21 (For all the Athenians and strangers which were there spent their time in nothing else, but either to tell, or to hear some new thing.)

22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.

30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:

31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

33 So Paul departed from among them.

34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

    Thank you Jesus for the blood you shed on Calvary so ALL could have everlasting life; for being as close as the mention of Your Great Name! #firstfire #firstthekingdom

  2. “When they heard Paul speak about the resurrection of the dead, some laughed in contempt, but others said, “We want to hear more about this later.” That ended Paul’s discussion with them,”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:32-33‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Not everyone will receive what you have to tell them about God. Some will laugh it off but then there are some who are curious and want to hear more. It’s sometimes hard to explain but after you experience it then you understand the grace of God and the Holy Ghost. Keep those who don’t receive it in prayer and continue to work with the ones who want to hear about the Truth.

  5. It does matter how you present something to someone. Your attitude matters, your actions matter and so does your speech. We cannot afford to let the fire at our altar ever burn out; but, rather stay prayed up, asking the Lord to forgive us and give us the words to speak. Paul never stopped sharing, even when the situation changed he didn’t give up; but, he moved onto the next opportunity to do the same. Prayer, Outreach, Fasting and Worship. A lot can happen in forty days!

  6. 31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.
    32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    There are hungry people out there, we just have to keep teaching the word. No matter how many people turn us down, make fun of or even shun us, the next person maybe the one that needs to hear the word the most. Oftentimes, individuals stop just short of their victory because they stopped moving forward. If we can continue to teach the word of God then we will come across the people that are wanting to word.

  7. 25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    Fire On My Altar never burn out
    Fire On My Altar never burn out
    Day night DAY night
    Day night DAY night

    JESUS

    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    This verse posed the question in my mind:

    “What can I do without JESUS”?

    Cant breathe, can’t live in the flesh or eternally, can’t think, love, feel, work, play or enjoy anything without the love, mercy and grace of JESUS.

    The most prosperous choice anyone can make is to Live “IN” Christ JESUS.

    John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

    I have heard and used the term that we live “for” GOD as HIS disciples. However, during these 40 Days of FIRE I am seeing more and more that I need to live “IN” GOD.

    We are afforded this privilege, through the Holy Ghost.

    Colossians 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:

    We are HIS offspring, HIS seed, HIS heirs, HIS children, HIS body. Lets GO live today IN Christ JESUS and do nothing that HE would not and do everything that HE would. Remembering that IN HIM I live, move and exist.

    Lets turn our world upside down for an IN Christ JESUS.

    Acts 17:6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

    Thank you JESUS for this day.

  9. Lets thank God , importantly we always need to stay first desiring God praying for others even when some folks don’t want to hear the truth but some do , Gods word never changes .

    “He is the God who made the world and everything in it. Since he is Lord of heaven and earth, he doesn’t live in man-made temples, and human hands can’t serve his needs—for he has no needs. He himself gives life and breath to everything, and he satisfies every need. From one man he created all the nations throughout the whole earth. He decided beforehand when they should rise and fall, and he determined their boundaries. “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.

  10. 27. That they should SEEK the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

    28. For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    John 18:
    7. Then asked he them again, Whom SEEK ye? And they said, JESUS of Nazareth.

    Matthew 28:
    5. And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye SEEK JESUS, which was crucified.

    Hebrews 11:
    6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently SEEK HIM.

  11. 17:32 and when they heard of the resurrection of the. Dead, some. Mocked: and others said, we will hear thee again of this matter.
    ———
    Yes you, them will hear about this again but in HIS terms.
    God is good and merciful 🙌

  12. But some of the Jews were jealous, so they gathered some troublemakers from the marketplace to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of Jason, searching for Paul and Silas so they could drag them out to the crowd. But when some Jews in Thessalonica learned that Paul was preaching the word of God in Berea, they went there and stirred up trouble.
    Acts of the Apostles 17:5‭, ‬13 NLT
    There always going to be someone stirring up trouble when they know you are preaching the truth the reason being is not everyone wants to hear it a couple weeks ago I was doing bus outreach and this men with a bible came out of no were convicting people you can just tell he had no idea what he was saying as Vincent said early everyone doesn’t received the word of God in the same way, this men came an approached me saying what church do you go to I said the Pentecostal of fort worth he said oh really there guy that lives downstairs that’s a Pentecostal preacher I thought you guys might have been connected, at that point I started to walk away while praying. I walk away because when I said I go to a Pentecostal church he gave me this looked at that moment I know he was trying to start trouble . One thing I didn’t do is conversate with him try to argue with him I just walked away there a time and place to talk and not talk. And Paul understood that in some places you see Paul talking and some places in the bible he walk away

  13. 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    Share this news with someone today. There are still people who don’t know who Jesus is, who don’t understand that it takes a relationship with God to know Him and be led into eternal glory with Him. Paul said his spirit was stirred; let the Spirit of God lead you today, let Him stir you up and lead you to hungry souls.

  14. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    It is strange to mean that there are so many people today that make so many things their idols and Gods. Like Paul was stating that even in his day they were worshipping unknown Gods. God’s that were not readily available, there were not alive and well as they were. The false Gods didn’t have power or authority to answer their needs. But with boldness Paul stood on Mars hill and stated the truth. He began to preach the one true living God whom was the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. A God that is all knowing, all powerful, and everywhere. His name is Jesus. He doesn’t dwell in temples made with human hands, but in the temples of his creation, that is each of us. He dwells in the hearts of every man, woman, and child if they receive him.

    My Jesus is a God that is able to pick me up when I fall. He heals me when I’m sick. He mends me when I’m broken. He feeds me when I’m hungry. He give me water when I’m thirsty. He sticks closer than a brother and never forsaken me. Having s true relationship with Jesus makes all the wrong things right because he is able to save, sanctify, and redeem me by the blood he shed for me. This allows me the opportunity to serve him with all fiber and being within me. That’s why it’s important to seek first the kingdom and his righteousness, simply to be able to worship him.

    I love the Kingdom!

  15. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you. God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;
    Acts 17:23‭-‬24 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/act.17.23-24.KJV

    People have a need to worship, even when it’s to the wrong God, or in this case the unknown God, how is it that they know of a God, but they dont know who he is, but they worship him anyways, they didnt worship like we do, when they worshipped a God there was a big hoorah put on, dancing, and food like a festival, or party, but the God or unknown God was the main focus. If God is unknown then it’s because we didnt and dont take the time to get to know him, we dont take the time to talk with him, and that’s ashame, because when we do, and we are consistent, he is an amazing God, and he loves us, and he wants to be known in our life, he wants his Name on our alter with our fire burning, I promise I know who God is! and I know what he can do, does he know me? what does my Alter say? Hows your Alter? My Slter is under repair, but it’s still in use, and that is an accomplishment for me! I’m praying for yall, you pray for me!

  16. Ok; so the world again shows the resistance to the word of God. Some mock, some laugh; then there are those that took serious what Paul was saying. When are people going to realize that time is short and the judgement is coming. I know that I can’t take HIS word lightly. I do my best to live for God, but sometimes it doesn’t feel like enough. I know that there is more that I can be doing for the Kingdom; this is where I need to seek after God even harder. So how do I do that. I like what Bishop Shatwell said, “Turn out the lights and remove all distractions. Seek Him diligently. Move through room by room and just talk. Pray over all that you touch.” God is everywhere and in everything. God abide “IN” me daily and show me where to seek after YOU. Thank you Jesus for being “IN” me and walking with me. I give myself to You and trust You with all that I have. Thank you Jesus for being the chief corner stone in my life.

    Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

  17. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.

    17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

    When is the last time our spirit has been stirred in us for those around us that are seemingly lost? Paul acted upon the stirring of his spirit, by going back to the synagogue and disputed what they were teaching.

    Everyday we see lost people that may have never felt the love, grace or mercy of God. Does that stir my spirit? It should. My prayer during 40 days of fire is that it stirs my spirit up so much that everyone I meet I must share JESUS CHRIST with.

    If seeing the lost doesn’t move me then I need prayer. If engaging with people that are lost doesn’t move me, I need prayer.

    MOVE ME WITH YOUR MESSAGE
    There was a time of tenderness in me
    And with that tenderness came liberty
    But through the cares of life I built a shell
    That harbored me from hurt but God as well.

    Move me with your message once again.
    It’s been so long since I have broke within
    Take me back once more to Calvary
    Where one more time your message moves me.

    Sometimes I get so hard I get so cold
    My life becomes like molten gold
    but then I recognize my need again
    come by your spirit revive me once again.

  18. “While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city. He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.

    So Paul, standing before the council, addressed them as follows: “Men of Athens, I notice that you are very religious in every way, for as I was walking along I saw your many shrines. And one of your altars had this inscription on it: ‘To an Unknown God.’ This God, whom you worship without knowing, is the one I’m telling you about.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:16-17, 22-23‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    The Greeks had so many god’s, no wonder Paul saw the need to tell them about the one true God.
    What amazes me is that part where they had an altar for the unknown God, that means that after all the god’s they had they still had a knowledge that there was a God. (the unknown God) that means that someone there spoke of God. Someone knew about this unknown God to them. Just like this time of 21st century most of the people know about the one true God but they still haven’t had a true encounter with Him. A lot of people only believe that there is a God but they haven’t seen him or feel him and just like the Greeks they only heard of Him but never really true knew who Jesus was, till Paul told them about Jesus. This world not only needs to know who Jesus is but also have a encounter with Him to know He is real and He is the one whom offers eternal life and gives forgiveness for our sins and is merciful and the Alpha and Omega, He is the Great I AM, the Prince of peace and everlasting Father.
    He is no idol or made out of stone or wood, He is alive and don’t need no priest to speak to Him on my behalf. We have the connection with Him direct Line.
    This is the God whom the Greeks and Gentiles (Us) and any other countries need to know about and we as the chosen ones is our duty to tell this world about the true and only God.

  19. And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
    Acts 17:6 KJV

    It’s amazing how backwards in thinking the carnal mind is. Sin turned this world upside down, not preachers of righteousness. Sin causes wars and destruction, not the church. It was sin that moved the people with violence to attack Jason and persecute the peaceful followers of Christ. There sin and hatred of what was good and right was the root cause of all the uproar and turmoil in their city.

    Similarly, sin turns all our worlds upside down. It divides families, destroys ministries, and tears apart communities. Sin causes us to lay awake at night, our hearts failing us for fear. Wherever we allow sin into hearts and homes, chaos and division always follow. Sin promises peace and joy, but rather delivers guilt, shame, hatred, violence, hopelessness, despair, anxiety, and strife.

    Only following after righteousness and true holiness can set our lives back in order. If we want our worlds to be right-side up and our hearts to be filled with peace, then we need to go to the root of the problem and repent of the sin in our lives. Through repentance and walking in the Spirit, we can still the turmoil in ourselves even when the world all around us us still upside down.

    “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
    1 John 1:8‭-‬9 KJV

    “Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”
    Isaiah 26:3 KJV

  20. World changers.

    4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.
    5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.
    6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;
    7 Whom Jason hath received: and these all do contrary to the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, one Jesus.
    8 And they troubled the people and the rulers of the city, when they heard these things.

    The gospel is a world changer. It is not popular to some, yet when you look at the over all picture. This is spreading like wildfire. All around the world people are receiving the truth. So my question is are you a world changer? In a generation, where the world is connected beyond what we could have ever imagined, what are we doing with this power? How are you changing the world around you? When we seek after the Kingdom, God will guild us in what to say to others and reach out to those hurting. Let the fire of my altar burn so fervently that other catch the fire and vision. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  21. iLove the Kingdom
    2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures
    “Good Manners”
    You ever hear the phrase, “Didn’t your momma teach you good manners?” Well, Paul definitely had good manners here in Acts 17:2. The bible states that he went into the synagogue (Jewish church) and shared Jesus with them. The word “manner” is translated from the following:
    ἔθω
    ethō
    A primary verb; to be used (by habit or conventionality); neuter perfect participle usage: – be custom (manner, wont).

    Basically, manners are our customs and habits. It would be good to form Godly customs and make habits out of them.

  22. Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

    4 And some of them believed, and consorted with Paul and Silas; and of the devout Greeks a great multitude, and of the chief women not a few.

  23. Acts Chapter 17 verse 3-4
    3.So Jesus Christ suffered through opening and alleging and then he woke up from the Dead And when I preach unto you is Jesus.
    4.and some of Paul and Silas Believed and Consorted so some of the Greeks had great multitude and not a few chief women

  24. 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    Seek and you shall find Him, for He is not far from anyone.

    How far from Him are you?

    In verse 28 it says “For IN Him we live, and move, and have our being”. Are we close enough to God to live IN Him and Him IN us?

  25. Acts 17
    22 Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars’ hill, and said, Ye men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious.

    Paul was not afraid to call out what the people were dealing with. He plainly states it without wavering or fear of the results it could create. I pray for boldness to speak with wisdom and with kindness. Yet with a Spiritual authority calling out the things that are false . Thsf aew against the word of God.

    After Paul has finished here was the reply

    32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

    Some turned away but others gave him an invitation to return. I believe that if we continue reaching and teaching we will find someone wisnting to know more. God’s Word is truth and iwe can teach others for the Kingdom….

    • What you wrote on your blog Ann is great
      Some people will turn away from an invitation and then they will return it but if you keep reaching out it it will come to you and someone will teach you the ways of Jesus Christ and the Church and the Christian life and the Christian Family

  26. 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    We must always passionately seek after the lord, especially in times of trouble and struggle in our life because it’s through him that we get our strength to make it through this world full of sin.

  27. Acts 17:17 (MSG), “He discussed it with the Jews and other like-minded people at their meeting place. And every day he went out on the streets and talked with anyone who happened along.”

    Everywhere Paul went, he was always sharing the Gospel.
    It only goes to show, that we cannot keep this Gospel inside the 4 walls of the church, but we must take IT “out on the streets” and talk to anyone we come in contact with, whether it be at the store, restaurant, park, job, etc…

  28. 6 And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

    Wow to be called a world changer!!!!!! Call it idealistic but when I became a teacher that was exactly my frame of mind to change the world one kid at a time. There is nothing wrong with that. Idealistic YES, maybe but I know that Jesus Christ is a world changer, a people changer, a life changer, and a soul changer!!! He can take the biggest trash, clean it up, and make it into the biggest treasure!!! Let’s go share the good news SALVATION IS HERE!!!! TURN THE WORLD UPSIDE DOWN!!! BE A WORLD CHANGER!!!!

  29. Acts 18: 24:25 [Amp] The God Who produced and formed the world and all things in it, being the Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in the hand made shrines. Neither is He lacked anything, for it is He Himself who gives life and breath and all things to all [ people].
    Isa. 42: 5] This says God the Lord He who created the heavens and stretched them fourth. He who spread abroad the earth and that which comes out of it, He Who gives breath to the people on it and spirit to those who walk in it. I will take You by hand and will keep you. Seek him first and you shall find him. He far at all. I love Jesus he is all I need.

  30. 5 But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar, and assaulted the house of Jason, and sought to bring them out to the people.

    We’ve all been faced with envy or jealousy, how many times was it rational once we truly understand the situation at hand? Not many.

    Our lack of understanding allowed us to presume an undesired circumstance which resulted in an emotion of jealousy or envy.

    Just as in vs 5, sin never sins alone, once jealousy had taken root, the desire grew to share and gather a company.

    We as children of God, although faced with envy should never allow it to take root. We should never allow ourselves to be moved with envy but moved by the Holy Ghost that resides within us.

  31. “But the Jews were jealous. So they rounded up some evil fellows from the market place. Forming a crowd, they started all kinds of trouble in the city. The Jews rushed to Jason’s house. They were looking for Paul and Silas. They wanted to bring them out to the crowd.

    The Jews in Thessalonica found out that Paul was preaching God’s word in Berea. So they went there too. They stirred up the crowds and got them all worked up.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:5, 13‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    No how hard the Jews wanted to stop the Paul from teaching the gospel they didn’t succeed. They stirred up trouble and went to those in authority in that city. Even after all of this I did not stop the gospel from being spread. What they didn’t know is that the believers knew One in authority over all.

  32. 26 And He has made from one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth, and has determined their pre appointed times and the boundaries of their dwellings, so that they should seek the Lord, in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us, for in Him we live and move and have our being.

  33. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

    27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

  34. Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.

    32 And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.

  35. “While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, he was deeply troubled by all the idols he saw everywhere in the city. He went to the synagogue to reason with the Jews and the God-fearing Gentiles, and he spoke daily in the public square to all who happened to be there.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:16-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Paul saw the beauty of Athens, having the best that Greek sculptors and architects could offer; but all that beauty did not honor God, so it did not impress him at all.

  36. 33 So Paul departed from among them.

    34 Howbeit certain men clave unto him, and believed: among the which was Dionysius the Areopagite, and a woman named Damaris, and others with them.

    You never know who is watching…

  37. 26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
    27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    We have this assurance that he is not far from us and if we will feel after him we may find him. It’s his will that we seek, find and worship him.

  39.  For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    This verse reminds me of the song: i can’t walk without Jesus I can’t talk without Jesus everything that I would do just cant do without the Lord.

  40. Acts 17:27,28 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from everyone of us: For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    The true God is near them, within the reach of those who seek Him.

    Therefore everyone must repent and turn to Him, because a resurrection and a judgement day are coming.

    Colossians 1:17
    By him all things consist: That is, by Him all things are held together; Christ now preserves all that He made in Creation

  41. Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
    Acts 17:16 KJV
    To me, this is a good example of a man with a burden or better yet someone sensitive to God’s burden for those around him.
    This also reminds me of an old song from the Lanny Wolf Trio called Stirred but Not Changed.
    Have I heard it for so long that He’s just another song?
    Has the story lost its thrill that I once knew?
    Lord, give me a burden that’s so strong,
    That it will last when my tears are gone.
    I’m tired of what I’ve been. Lord, make me over again.

    2. But this time Lord change me let the work begin just now,
    this time Lord change me please change me some how,
    this time Lord change me let my life be rearranged,
    I’m so tired of being stirred but not being changed.

    In Paul’s case, he was stirred enough to do something about it and he began to preach the gospel to those at Mars Hill in a way they could relate to it. Lord help us to be stirred to change and do something with what we have in Jesus name!

  42. Acts Chapter 17. Acts Chapter 17 continues to describe the difficult circumstances that the apostles and disciples of Christ had to face for preaching the Gospel. … There was a synagogue where Paul spent three days preaching about Jesus. He talked about His teachings, His miracles, and the fact that He is the risen Lord

  43. 27 That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:
    28 For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring.

    The Lord is our everything. We have nothing and are nothing without Him. He is the air we breathe.

  44. 16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
    17 Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.

    “Paul . . . his spirit was stirred in him, . . . city wholly given to idolatry.”
    As the church, when our community, city, state, or nation falls into sin something should stir in our spirit as it did in Paul’s spirit. He then disputed the case with multiple people at multiple times in multiple places. How will we make a change for the better in this world if we don’t take a stand and voice our opinion and belief of our faith? I AM ANOINTED!! Together we can make a difference, but we have to reverence Him to a place that something would stir in our spirit when the time is right!

  45. “And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/act.17.11.nlt

    Don’t you love it when they listen!
    I experienced both types of ears tonight ( the listener) and (the silencer) also know as (the I’m not changing my mind ears)
    That’s the beauty about witnessing or even attempting to witness. As I was talking to this man who no longer believes in going to church and no longer reads the Bible because he’s read it over 30 times, the lady he works with happens to come up being very receptive to the word of God and why we come to bring to the ole awful waffle. This woman I could tell was hungry for truth and the other lady was an introvert but she finally felt comfortable enough to tell us her God experience with crying at the altar. When they come I believe in jesus name they WILL receive the Holy Ghost!

  46. Acts 17, verse 10, And the brethren immediately send away Paul and Si’Las by night unto Berea who coming thither went into the synagogue of the Jews, Verse 11 These were more noble that those in Thes-sa-lo-nica, in they received the word with all readiness of mind, and SEARCHED THE SCRIPTURES DAILY, whether those things were so, This Jews they wore worship idols but they still wanted to hear about the God, So because they did not believed in Paul,they searched the bible daily, But the ones in Ath’ens. they just don’t want to hear Paul,And Paul he was very stirred, I personal understands this because in all Latin America countries the main religion is to worshiping the idols, And you can see darkness behind of the worshiping the idols,Paul see all this idolatry people, but Paul he did not given up, verse 16 NOW while Paul waiting for them at Ath’ens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly give to idolatry, For sure or probably he hath I-SAIAH, 60 in his mind, ARISE, SHINE; FOR THY light is come and glory of the Lord is risen upon thee, For behold the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness; the people but the Lord shall arise upon thee, And his glory shall the Gen’tiles shall come to thy light, and kings to the brightness of thy rising,

  47. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    The people of Athens were known for their ancient philosophical influence. They had many theologies and were open minded to other powerful beings, which are actually idols or false gods. I believe they knew they were missing something. There was an empty space that all those hollow gods could not fill. This is a perfect opportunity for Paul to introduce to them the One true God. He will lead us also to people that have a desire to know Jesus.

  48. ews:

    2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

    Its very important to have it handy and use it to explain this faith which we believe in. There many that say their opinions but what does the Word say? Where us that in the bible. We must know how to use this sword and apply it for victory.

  49. And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

    3 Opening and alleging, that Christ must needs have suffered, and risen again from the dead; and that this Jesus, whom I preach unto you, is Christ.

    All we can do is present the Word. It is up to those that are in the presence of the presented Word to receive it and obey it. I said “in the presence” because it is up to us to be anointed when we speak by maintaining or relationship with God so that the word is active in our lives. That active Word is then able to transform the hearer because the anointing destroys the yoke not our elegant speaking.

    Let us daily preach Christ and Him crucified.

  50. That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:

  51. 23 For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, To The Unknown God. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you.

    24 God that made the world and all things therein, seeing that he is Lord of heaven and earth, dwelleth not in temples made with hands;

    25 Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;

    26 And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

    Several impactful points in these passages of scripture.

    The “Unknown God”, he states him do I declare unto you. He makes the reference that they worshiped him ignorantly. WOW. Processing this in my mind, what must have that been like? Rending worship, yet not having a true recognition of who he was? It seems like a production of repetitive motions without understanding, empty worship. The continuation of the issue proceeds these folks did not want to accept the message being preached.

    However, bringing this up to speed in my era of time. While being raised in this gospel message, what a horrible thing if I only have a very shallow understanding of his greatness. If I offer up worship not fully acknowledging the magnitude of the greatness of the almighty God. Or mechanically offering lip service to God because the minister said to do so. Or not proclaiming aloud that he is the king of king and Lord of Lords.

    I believe that’s why the writer states “Oh magnify the Lord with me”, he is stating, enlarge him, see his power, take notice of his intricate details, that’s why each time I worship I always like to get a fresh glimpse of the cross. I understand I will never, ever be able to worship him enough. The greatest miracle of all time was the price paid at the cross! Yet in another passage he speaks – ” When I consider the heavens the moon, and the stars, what is man that thou art mindful of him”. God is mindful of me, I must be mindful of him!

    He proceeds to say “he dwelleth not in temples made with hands”. But he does dwell in this temple of earthen vessel! We are a blessed, privledged people. The Holy Ghost living on the inside, and to know that we have the responsibility to in house his spirit. We have to make sure that the Holy Ghost dwells in us removing anything that could quench his spirit. Whatever you got to move God, move it!

    Let this temple be full to overflowing Holy Ghost!

  52. 5But some of the Jews were jealous, so they gathered some troublemakers from the marketplace to form a mob and start a riot. They attacked the home of Jason, searching for Paul and Silas so they could drag them out to the crowd.

    There were trouble makers then just like today. Some even get paid to cause trouble. They go out and accuse the opposition of of anything. If needed they will use force to get their way. I thank, we as Christians put everything in has hands to take care of situations.

  53. Lord i pray for wisdom and words as we go out to share our testamonies. Lord i pray that even though we do not agree with some of todays customs we are still able to relate in our experiences. Lord i pray that we are able to sway the hearts of the lost. Jesus flow through us as we try to reach souls. In Jesus name. Amen!

    Paul stood up in front of the city council and said, “I see that in every way you Athenians are very religious. For as I walked through your city and looked at the places where you worship, I found an altar on which is written, ‘To an Unknown God’. That which you worship, then, even though you do not know it, is what I now proclaim to you.
    Acts 17:22‭-‬23 GNB
    https://bible.com/bible/296/act.17.22-23.GNB

    Even those who worship many gods acknowledged the one true GOD.

  54. In this chapter Paul went into the synagogue, and on three Sabbath days he reasoned with them from the Scriptures, 3 explaining and proving that the Messiah had to suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said. 4 Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large number of God-fearing Greeks and quite a few prominent women.(message version biblegateway)

    When Paul was trying to give it to them that the Messiah was dead and had risen, that came to me like we should do that as well. As much people as we can convince, the more people make it to heaven. NEVER GIVE UP POFW!!!😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

  55. “For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’ And since this is true, we shouldn’t think of God as an idol designed by craftsmen from gold or silver or stone. “God overlooked people’s ignorance about these things in earlier times, but now he commands everyone everywhere to repent of their sins and turn to him.”(Acts of the Apostles ‭17:28-30‬ ‭NLT‬)

    When we come to realization and start to be accountable to ourselves. We will eventually know that our body’s are the temple of the Holy Spirit and God is the one that gave us the Holy Spirit. We are his children and we must respect our body’s because we don’t belong to ourselves. God bought us for a high price.

  56. 27 God did this so that they would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from any one of us.

    We know all we have to do is call on his name and he’ll be there, now we need to let everyone know who they can call on and he be there! We have found him but we must daily keep seeking after him and speaking to all about his great salvation!

  57. “Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:11‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    The Jews found here not only heard what was being told to them but they took the initiative to dig deeper into what was basing shared with them to find truth and understanding for themselves. To sit in church and hear God’s word being preached to you is just the first step to being a great follower it’s also our duty to dive into God’s word and seek after him on your own. Just because somebody told you something from God’s word doesn’t always make it true, go find out for yourself!
