Acts Chapter 23 – 23/40

Day 23: Acts Ch.23. Paul looked to his left and right and realized he was surrounded by those that were against his mission. At times, even when we are in a tight and helpless, hopeless place, the Lord knows where we are.

Pray for the Church to boldly testify of the goodness of God.

Acts 23

And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day.

And the high priest Ananias commanded them that stood by him to smite him on the mouth.

Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?

Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.

But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

14 And they came to the chief priests and elders, and said, We have bound ourselves under a great curse, that we will eat nothing until we have slain Paul.

15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him: and we, or ever he come near, are ready to kill him.

16 And when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their lying in wait, he went and entered into the castle, and told Paul.

17 Then Paul called one of the centurions unto him, and said, Bring this young man unto the chief captain: for he hath a certain thing to tell him.

18 So he took him, and brought him to the chief captain, and said, Paul the prisoner called me unto him, and prayed me to bring this young man unto thee, who hath something to say unto thee.

19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?

20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.

21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

22 So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me.

23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

25 And he wrote a letter after this manner:

26 Claudius Lysias unto the most excellent governor Felix sendeth greeting.

27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.

28 And when I would have known the cause wherefore they accused him, I brought him forth into their council:

29 Whom I perceived to be accused of questions of their law, but to have nothing laid to his charge worthy of death or of bonds.

30 And when it was told me how that the Jews laid wait for the man, I sent straightway to thee, and gave commandment to his accusers also to say before thee what they had against him. Farewell.

31 Then the soldiers, as it was commanded them, took Paul, and brought him by night to Antipatris.

32 On the morrow they left the horsemen to go with him, and returned to the castle:

33 Who, when they came to Caesarea and delivered the epistle to the governor, presented Paul also before him.

34 And when the governor had read the letter, he asked of what province he was. And when he understood that he was of Cilicia;

35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

  1. 6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

Mark 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

We all know the rules of battle DIVIDE AND CONQUER! That is why it is so important for the body of Christ (the church) to always be united in one mind and one accord. Because when we are united the enemy can not come in and destroy. Here Paul easily used his knowledge of what he knew to begin a debate between them and in that way he divided the congregation and took the attention off of him and diverted to the Pharisee and the Sadusees.
To do this you must know your enemy, you must know their believes and you must know your believes and be steadfast so you may not be persuaded. Know the Gospel, His words, and His works!!!!

  2. “But Paul’s nephew—his sister’s son—heard of their plan and went to the fortress and told Paul. Paul called for one of the Roman officers and said, “Take this young man to the commander. He has something important to tell him.” So the officer did, explaining, “Paul, the prisoner, called me over and asked me to bring this young man to you because he has something to tell you.” The commander took his hand, led him aside, and asked, “What is it you want to tell me?” Paul’s nephew told him, “Some Jews are going to ask you to bring Paul before the high council tomorrow, pretending they want to get some more information. But don’t do it! There are more than forty men hiding along the way ready to ambush him. They have vowed not to eat or drink anything until they have killed him. They are ready now, just waiting for your consent.” “Don’t let anyone know you told me this,” the commander warned the young man. Then the commander called two of his officers and ordered, “Get 200 soldiers ready to leave for Caesarea at nine o’clock tonight. Also take 200 spearmen and 70 mounted troops. Provide horses for Paul to ride, and get him safely to Governor Felix.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭23:16-24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In modern day terms, haters always have a plan to get revenge for something that offended them. Paul’s haters waited for him to be transferred so they could take him out, but they didn’t know their plan had been over heard and Paul was sent somewhere else in the safety of armed soldiers. God always places people in the right place at the right time. Sometimes when we don’t know what to do God is working behind the scene. Just keep your faith in Him.

  3. “I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭23:35

A equal opportunity to be heard that’s all it takes some time .

  4. If we simply share our testimony, the Lord will do the rest. Paul was willing to do his part and share, fully putting his trust in the Lord. He knew there was nothing to worry about as God had already revealed to him that he would be sharing his testimony elsewhere. Our obedience is key to allow the Lord to use us as he sees fit in whatever situation arises.

  5. 10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.
11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

God’s not done with us. We can be rest assured that we have the protection of the Holy Ghost the weather how bad things get or difficult they may seem. No matter who speaks against us, what is being said, or even that fear of what could happen to us, if we are walking in the will of God we have the protection to move forward. that could be explained why Peter fell asleep the night before he was to be executed because God was not done with him, or Paul and Silas in prison singing praises to God. He has a purpose for every stripe and a reason for every wound. The book of Corinthians tells us we are struck down but not destroyed, persecuted but not abandoned.

  6. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

God’s got a plan – follow it! His will is the safest and best place to be, truly there’s no place I’d rather be!

  7. But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee. So the chief captain then let the young man depart, and charged him, See thou tell no man that thou hast shewed these things to me. Know this that even in the cover of night; God will protect us. As in this case: Paul’s nephew became his protection by revealing to the captain that the Jews were going to kill Paul. It doesn’t matter where I’m at; as long as I’m with God. He will be my covering in dark situations. God may speak to me about something that is going on or He will send someone to warn me. That is how God works; in the midst of battles He will show the path of His protection. Lord lead me today and order my path. Be the light in the darkness and set me upon the path that I may find you.

  8. Then Paul said to him, “God is going to strike you, you whitewashed wall! Do you actually sit to judge me according to the Law, and yet in violation of the Law order me to be struck?” On the following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Be brave; for as you have solemnly and faithfully witnessed about Me at Jerusalem, so you must also testify at Rome.”

White Washed Wall: to cover with lime, plaster over, whitewash
the Jews were accustomed to whitewash the entrances to their sepulchres, as a warning against defilement by touching them
term applied to a hypocrite who conceals his malice under an outward assumption of piety

To me, I am honestly sure that God changes everything about us, but something’s he leaves like our spunkyness, or in some cases our personality, God dont fix what ain’t broken, if we have a great personality as a sinner, whew we will have a even better one as a saint, but some times God has to change that personality, Paul is still Paul, God just changed his thought pattern about the Apo

Kingdom, he still has the fight in him, I dont beleive God changes that because how can we fight the enemy without having the mentality to fight, we cant be fearful when we are fighting, we have to recognize his tactics, and know that he has a purpose just like I do, but his Purpose is to destroy me, and my purpose is to fight, and I cant do that with my flesh. That’s why Paul said God is going to smite you, because I dont have to lay a hand on you, not to say I dont want to, but I dont have to, because I got purpose! Lord Jesus, help me to fight my battles on my knees, on the battlefield, knowing my purpose in your Kingdom!

Paul had the assurance God was him.
Although the odds did not look so favorable there is no one greater than God!!!!!! When He sends you on a mission we must rest assured in His strength and peace…..,,,,,In Jesus name.

What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

What kind of judge are you to break the law yourself by ordering me struck like that?” That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. God will give us protection. He will raise up a standard against those that seek to destroy us.

Yes, all of this because of something spreading the word no matter what ..
    P E R C E C U T I O N.. …
Don’t be surprised, be aware , keep on keeping on, using
The time as opportunities to share the good news.
God will take care of the opposition.

  14. Acts 23:11-12
    11) And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
    12) And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

The Lord’s Plan VS The Enemy’s Plan
The Lord’s Plan for Paul was for him to testify and be a witness for Him in Rome.
The Enemy’s Plan for Paul was to have him killed.

As a child of God, God has a Plan for each and everyone of us, and no matter what the Enemy’s Plan is against us, God will Protect and Deliver us in our time of trouble. Vs. 23-24 (23, And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night; 24, And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor). So that, His Plan in our life can be accomplished in us for His Kingdom.

  15. Do our actions speak correctly?

5 Paul acted surprised. “How was I to know he was Chief Priest? He doesn’t act like a Chief Priest. You’re right, the Scripture does say, ‘Don’t speak abusively to a ruler of the people.’ Sorry.”

I understand that no one is perfect. As Paul says; I am the lead sinner. However, if you’re going to drive around in your cool truck giving the middle finger to everyone that doesn’t drive fast enough for you…then don’t put a POFW sticker on your back window. It’s almost alarming when I see people at church treating others as if they were mortal enemies. Talking trash about their brothers and sisters.

If we’re going to be a Christian…then let’s start acting like it! Stop moping around…giving people attitude…and complaining about every little thing that throws off our day. People are watching us. Have we ever considered that we’re actually hurting God more than helping Him with how we treat other people? Do we think that showing up on Sunday and listening to the music is going to bring others to Christ?

  16. iLove the Kingdom
9And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

    WOW…MOM..WOW
This is so hilarious…This is so typical of human nature. As long as someone expresses what we believe we receive them. One minute these Pharisees are about to kill Paul, the next minute they put him under their wing and say, “Hey wait just a minute, maybe an angel might have talked to this feller!” Why such a dramatic change? Because they had religion. It’s the same issue we fight today. It doesn’t matter what denomination you go to, you will be accepted until you go against one of their core principles. Think about it like this, imagine we had a minister from another denomination come into The Pentecostals of Fort Worth and sit on the back row. Then imagine this lil feller stand up, interrupt service, and start yelling that God is a Trinity. What would we as a church do? If it happened on a Sunday Night, I’d be surprised to see that feller make it out the place still standing…We’d probably shout him out. Why is that? Because we are passionate about the truth! Most folks are passionate about their “form of truth” even if it is not really truth. These Pharisees were no different. They heard Paul speak the truth that they knew to be true. They believed in the resurrection and they found this opportunity to get one up on the Sadducees.

The spirit of religion is really the spirit of pride. As long as you say what I believe, you’re alright with me. We need that spirit of pride broken so we can receive the true undefiled Word of God. It really does not matter what we “believe” if what we believe is not true. What matters is the truth. Help us Lord receive the truth and crucify the spirit of religion.

  17. 3 Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law?

4 And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest?

5 Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.
The Lord instituted the church for corporate worship for our edification, and He provided teachers and ministers to guide us. We should never speak ill of our pastor, because it is considered ungrateful for the provision of the Lord.

  18. That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.” But Paul’s nephew—his sister’s son—heard of their plan and went to the fortress and told Paul.
Acts of the Apostles 23:11‭, ‬16 NLT
When you preaching the Good news there’s always going to be somebody just going to be against it I’m not going to agree on what you’re saying that’s just how the world they will try to do anything in there power to stop you here in the chapter they try to kill Paul but see the Lord was with him and keep him safe

  19. 6But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.
8 For the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit: but the Pharisees confess both.

We cannot have division amoung ourselves, brothers and sisters. For His Kingdom to ever grow the more, there must be unity. When our fires on our altars burn together the light will shine ever brighter. We must seek after His Kingdom first everyday and put wood and sacrifice on our altars everyday.

May the fire of my Altar never burn out
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

12 And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

  21. 35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

Thr wait is what gets you, so many thoughts run through one’s mind…….. but GOD knows exactly what HE was/ is doing!!! EVERYTHING works for thr good of those that are called……….

  22. Sitting here waiting to meet someone my mind went to strongholds being broken in the midst of the battles. Paul took courage even in the midst of adversity and a slap in the face . His trust was not in the outcome but the trust of an Almighty God who had already transformed him into a mighty warrior of now working for the winning side. He had once been engaged to evil but now his mission was no longer one of darkness but bringing light to those in darkness. Thank God we can be victorious even in the midst of some of the hardest trials …
Thank you Saul of Tarsus for the great testimonies that you have left for us today so that we too can know it can be done. Anything can take place in 40 Days! We will be victorious!

  23. 13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

The one thing that we see in our own society, is that there is always going to be a conspiracy to come against the truth of the doctrine we are preaching. We will have haters of the scripture because they are not measuring up to it and will only be judged by it. So the enemy wants to destroy what God has set in motion to progress the Kingdom. He wants to try to destroy anything that has God’s name on it or his hand upon it. We are a people that have been chosen to carry the Gospel to the dying world. It is going to come against the nay sayers and doubters. It will ruffle the feathers of the sinners and the sinful. But we have a promise to lay hold of and seek first the kingdom of God.

Scripture states that we are a chosen generation, a peculiar people that should show praises to him that have called us out of darkness and into his marvelous light. If we stay fearful then we can not trust God’s plan for us. But if we get bold and spread this gospel we are going to win even if our enemy slays us.

    I love the Kingdom!

  24. God always provides a way of escape when we step out in faith and our steps are ordered of God, He will send help in time of trouble. Favor ain’t fair! Thank you Jesus for the many times you have s should me mercy and grace.

“Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:16 ESV

  25. 11 That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.”

Lets be encouraged to speak about God, and not be ashamed when the subject of God, Jesus or the bible comes up. We should never feel uncomfortable speaking about God. We should support God, and defend your belief. Don’t let others intimidate you about your belief in God.

  26. Acts 23:11 That night the Master appeared to Paul: “ it’s going to be all right. Everything is going to turn out for the best. You’ve been a good witness for me here in Jerusalem. Now you’re going to be my witness in Rome!”

John 16:33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world you shall have tribulation : but be of good cheer ; I have overcome the world.

Matthew 14:27 But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, be of good cheer; it is I ; be not afraid.

To live ought to be, for a Christian, to witness.

  27. 13 More than forty men were involved in this plot.

We’ve all heard birds of a feather flock together, and how true that it. Sin will never sin alone. How is it MORE than 40 men were involved in plotting to kill Paul, some even stated they wouldn’t eat until he was dead.

Yet, when asked to help in planning an outreach event for the church the volunteers scatter. When looking for help to clean the church, the room will empty. And for some church-wide fasts are “unnecessary”.

If we could grab the desire that the 40 men had to kill Paul and use it to not eat until we see a certain loved one saved or a financial breakthrough or giving all we can to a ministry in need, imagine what God would do.

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”

Cause the best news for us vs the other 40 men, we’ve got God on our side, and when we unite to Glorify Him, There He Will Be!

  28. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

The Lord came and ministered to Paul letting him know that his past was evidence that he would come through this specific test.

Lamentations 3:20-22 King James Version (KJV)
20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me.

21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.

22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.

The trials and test that Jesus has already brought us through, should build confidence in us that He is going to continue to bring us through those test and trials that we might be a light and witness to others going thru things. Test/Trials are only for a season, and most of the time we determine how long that season is by our reaction to what we’re going through We must keep a good attitude, trust the Lord, speak faith and God will bring us through!

This chorus came to mind today – I GOT OUT
I’ve been through the fire but I got out
Said I’ve been through the fire but I got out
No matter what you’re going through
He’s gonna make a way for you
Soon you’re gonna say “I got out”

  29. 19 Then the chief captain took him by the hand, and went with him aside privately, and asked him, What is that thou hast to tell me?
20 And he said, The Jews have agreed to desire thee that thou wouldest bring down Paul to morrow into the council, as though they would enquire somewhat of him more perfectly.
21 But do not thou yield unto them: for there lie in wait for him of them more than forty men, which have bound themselves with an oath, that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him: and now are they ready, looking for a promise from thee.

This young man was very brave and bold in the Holy Ghost to tell the chief captain not to yield to the request of the High Priest of the Jews and his company. He was one piece, one part of God’s plan for Paul to witness at Rome. We each have a part to play in the outpouring of God’s Spirit in our church and community. We must be bold in the Holy Ghost and speak the truth.

  30. “Then said Paul unto him, God shall smite thee, thou whited wall: for sittest thou to judge me after the law, and commandest me to be smitten contrary to the law? And they that stood by said, Revilest thou God’s high priest? Then said Paul, I wist not, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, Thou shalt not speak evil of the ruler of thy people.”
    Acts 23:3‭-‬5 KJV

“You shall not curse God, nor curse the ruler of your people [since he administers God’s law].”

“Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm.”
    Psalms 105:15 KJV

Paul’s immediate reversal of attitude came when he realized that he was accusing the anointed ruler of his people. This reminds me of David, who, though being hunted and persecuted without cause, refused to lift his hand against the Lord’s anointed. Both men displayed humility as well as a knowledge and reverence of the Word. They put the Word above their own wellbeing and suffered mistreatment that they might obey it. They humbled themselves before the Lord in obedience and trusted that He would fight their battles for them.

In addition, their actions show us that another man’s faults or sins NEVER justifies our own. Neither of these two men decided that since those attacking them were in the wrong, they had the right to lift their hands or their voices against them.

We would do well to learn from their examples. God NEVER sanctions “pastor pie”—not even if you are right and the pastor is in the wrong (as in Paul’s case). We are never to slander, or to attempt to depose, one whom God has ordained to lead His flock. It’s His church. He puts fallible men over it and then instructs us to respect and submit for His Word’s and His work’s sake. It’s a test of character that both Paul and David passed.

That being said, in extremely rare cases (such as David’s), it may become necessary to flee in order to protect oneself or one’s family. Even so, it is NEVER RIGHT TO DO WRONG, and it is NEVER RIGHT to teach those following you TO DISRESPECT AUTHORITY. (David would not allow his men to take vengeance for him.) We must always keep a right spirit and a tamed tongue!

Finally, wives and parents should take note of the attitude of these two men. Humility, rather than disrespect, is God’s way, and submission is a better example for your children than pride and defending one’s own honor. If you teach them that it is right to disobey when you disagree with those in even the lowest positions of authority, you will destroy ALL authority in their lives—even yours—even God’s. There is no such thing as situational ethics in God’s Kingdom. Teach respect and submission through all you say and do.

“Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.”
    Ephesians 5:22 KJV

“Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls…”
    Hebrews 13:17a KJV

  31. Acts 23 In theses chapter the apostle Paul he still preaching the gospel en a very different way, same as Stephen preach the word of God now Saul doing same as did too the council, And all this is about the law, from chapters 21 22 and 23 and going forth, But Paul knew the law better that Stephen, Paul never broke the law, In TIMOTHY 1 verse 8 But we know that the law is good if a man use it LAWFULLY , CORRECTLY, He saw something very wrong in the council, verse 8 For the Sad Du Cees, say that there is no resurrection, neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both, Now these is the people the teach and preach the law of God, in Paul’s days, Paul preach the both the law and the gospel Jesus Christ together, verse 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him and say, Be of good cheer; Paul; for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome, Paul HE Still has a lots work to doe, But the makers of the law they going too try do something bad, verse 15 Now therefore ye with the council signify to the chief captain that he bring him down unto you to morrow, as though ye would enquire something more perfectly concerning him; and we or ever he come near, are ready to kill him, But wait wait the law said you shall not kill, in one of the commandments this has being writing in the law Jesus told them in MATTHEW 5 verses 17 Think not that i come to destroy the law or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfilled, verse 19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven, WE NEEDED THE FIRE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, With out the fire of the Holy Spirit Jesus call us fools in so many verses here is one,PROVERBS 29 verse 11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards, They try to kill Paul but HALLELUJAH, God always in the last minuted has a plan God prepared total 470 men army generals and two hundred soldiers to defend Paul, with Apache helicopters and mashing guns, verse 23 And he called unto him two centurions. saying, make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Cesarea and horsemen threescore and ten, and spear men two hundred at the third hour of the night, to get ready to preach the word of God in ROME,

    GOOD ADVISE FOR UNITY

35 I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.

We are often tempted by our human nature to make rash decisions or rushed judgments in cases that we do not have all the details. The governor here offers us some wisdom in hearing a matter. He refused to hear the matter until the other party was present.

It has amazed me over the years of how some perspectives have changed very quickly when both parties are present. I have felt led of GOD to utilize this same concept and principal in dealing with matters in the church.

I have been privileged to witness great acts of Grace, Mercy and Love through this process. I cannot say that all have turned out that way. But, for sure the carnal and selfish party is revealed.

Graciously approach each conflict with an open mind to hear each party and see what JESUS will do in the midst.

  33. 9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God.

So many people today try to fight against god’s will and god’s calling, if they would only humble theirselves and surrender to the lord they would find the road less resisting.

  34. “That was fuel on the fire. The quarrel flamed up and became so violent the captain was afraid they would tear Paul apart, limb from limb. He ordered the soldiers to get him out of there and escort him back to the safety of the barracks. That night the Master appeared to Paul: “It’s going to be all right. Everything is going to turn out for the best. You’ve been a good witness for me here in Jerusalem. Now you’re going to be my witness in Rome!””
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭23:10-11‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Paul had been miraculously delivered from jail cells before; but this time, the Lord met him right in the jail cell. We often demand that Jesus deliver us out of our circumstances, when He wants to meet us right in them. We sometimes think we are surrendering to Jesus when we are really only demanding an escape. God wants to meet us in whatever we face at the moment.

  35. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

  36. 6 But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.

7 And when he had so said, there arose a dissension between the Pharisees and the Sadducees: and the multitude was divided.

    Divide and conquer

A favored strategy among generals, is to divide as conquer. It is the unity of the group that prevails. Paul was going to be murdered before he could accomplish his mission, so he divided the religious crowd and caused a large enough distraction to get himself to safety.

This is the same strategy used by the enemy to brew discord. Because discord brings about disunity and when we are divided we are more likely to fall prey.

  37. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

This must have been a difficult night for Paul. His heart longed for the salvation of his fellow Jews.

It was in the darkness of that night when doubts and fears may have begin to surround Paul; when his trust in God could have began to fade; when worries about what God was going to do and if he was going to make it could have started taking over his mind. It was in the darkness of that night that Jesus came to Paul and stood by him.

Paul may have felt alone, but he wasn’t alone; if everyone else forsook him, Jesus was enough.

Jesus was not only with Paul; He gave him words of encouragement. The words “be of good cheer”.

I find comfort not only in the words “be of good cheer” but also in the words “so must thou bear witness also at Rome.” It was as if God was telling him; I’m not done with you yet, so there is no reason to fear.

The promise of more work to do was also a promise of continued protection. Paul had to live until he had finished the purpose God had for Him.

The same words could be said to each of us. There is more work for us to do! More people to bring to Christ, more ways to glorify His name, more people to pray with, more ways to serve, and more hungry people to feed.

From the simple verse I take away:
    – To be of good cheer.
    – That even in my darkest night; God is standing beside me.
    – There is more work to be done!

  38. And when it was day, certain of the Jews banded together, and bound themselves under a curse, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul.

    23 And he called unto him two centurions, saying, Make ready two hundred soldiers to go to Caesarea, and horsemen threescore and ten, and spearmen two hundred, at the third hour of the night;

24 And provide them beasts, that they may set Paul on, and bring him safe unto Felix the governor.

Over 40 against one may seem like the scripture says, the enemy coming in like a flood. Oh but God! You can see the salvation of the Lord as He lifts up a whole army to protect Paul and ensure that his destiny is fulfilled. There should be no worry for anyone that knows is walking with God and doing His will. No weapons that came against shall prosper for God has a plan and it shall be done.

  39. *TEN ANIMO LLEGO LA PALABRA DEL SEÑOR A PABLO. Hechos 23 :11

    * TENGAMOS ANIMO!! … EL TODOPODEROSO VA DELANTE DE NOSOTROS . TENEMOS LA VICTORIA EN EL NOMBRE DE JESUS..

  40. 9 And there arose a great cry: and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and strove, saying, We find no evil in this man: but if a spirit or an angel hath spoken to him, let us not fight against God
10 And when there arose a great dissension, the chief captain, fearing lest Paul should have been pulled in pieces of them, commanded the soldiers to go down, and to take him by force from among them, and to bring him into the castle.

We must have the fire burning an ass because no matter what happens God knows all things. And his word says that he will never leave us nor for sake us that is a promise.

  41. 13 And they were more than forty which had made this conspiracy.

Yesterday I read a story about a girl who was kidnapped here in Fort Worth, and what struck me was the suspect in the case, because I recognized him and I knew the guy. He was a classmate of mine when I was at TCC, I never would have thought he would do something like that. But here he was on the news. But thankfully the girl was able to escape into a fast food place and find sanctuary.

So you may ask how does this story relate to the scripture? Well I had no idea what this man was plotting behind closed doors, and I’m sure Paul had no idea that 40 men were plotting against his life. I’m sure he figured some men were against him but 40? But God delivered him through that situation just like the girl in the story. His sister was able to hear of the plot and told the right people about it and Paul was protected. And God allowed that girl to escape at the right time at the right place. We may not know what is going on behind the scenes but God does and he already knows how he is going to take care of us.

  42. But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question.
    Acts 23:6

Paul used wisdom and his knowledge of the two religious groups to set one against the other, thereby making the way for him to get out of a difficult situation. God can give us a word of knowledge or a word of wisdom when we need it, but He also expects us to use the wisdom and knowledge we already have.

  43. 11 But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, Be of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.

  44. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.

No matter what situation we may find ourselves in , we can rest assured Jesus is there with us. We don’t have to be anxious or apprehensive about anything. We just have to call on the name of Jesus

  45. That night the Lord stood by Paul and said, “Don’t be afraid! You have given your witness for me here in Jerusalem, and you must also do the same in Rome.”
    Acts 23:11 GNB

As long as we keep believeing and keep testifying on his behalf we will provail. We need to keep our faith, no matter the struggles, that we serve a mighty mighty God. We go out knowing that we pack a punch. Lord i pray that our churches never give up the fight, that we go on to testify in his name.

  46. Paul upset everyone on purpose. He knew that if he talked about Jesus it would put everyone against one another and he did just that. This made people loud and get crazy, but it also drove them to think about things. The examined their beliefs. They have hearts of curiosity, all because Paul spins out.

  47. It’s one thing to go and do not knowing if God is with you. It’s a total new ballpark when you Go in the power of Jesus Christ.

Paul was surrounded by chaos. Yet God was with him.

  48. 11 And the night following the Lord stood by him, and said, Be of good cheer, Paul: for as thou hast testified of me in Jerusalem, so must thou bear witness also at Rome.
It is really wonderful to receive a message of the Lord. But is tremendous when you are not receiving the message that you are waiting for. That was not the case of Paul, he was prepared even to die for the Lord. Just meditating in this word, I was just thinking that we always are praying for the right answer, the miracle, liberation, blessings. We have to be in the Spirit to receive the right answer from the Lord, and be ready to obey Him and believe in Him, even if we not receive our miracle or the things that we are praying for. Lord fill us with your power and faith!

  49. “I will hear thee, said he, when thine accusers are also come. And he commanded him to be kept in Herod’s judgment hall.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭23:35

Let’s be considerate of what’s being said and open our ears and hearts to understanding. Jesus wants to do so much more than we’re allowing to happen. In order for me to hear Jesus more I gotta reach for him and pray and communicate with him so when He does speak I can hear his voice. This verse may not even pertain to hearing the voice of God but this is the direction I took it.
In Jesus name let us listen!

  50. “Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers, I am a Pharisee, descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.” When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the assembly was divided. (The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees believe all these things.)”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭23:6-8‬ ‭NIV‬‬

When your enemy is shouting at you and trying to bring you down in order to stop you from your calling, sometimes you just need to say the right thing in order for them to begin to fight each other. So much so that they forget you were the reason they were there and they forget the real reason they showed up to play that day.

  51. 27 This man was taken of the Jews, and should have been killed of them: then came I with an army, and rescued him, having understood that he was a Roman.
Farewell.

When this letter arrived in the governor’s hands you can read that he was explaining that he couldn’t find fault in Paul. This is what our God does for us. When the odds are against us, when a mob of people want to see us dead, when people are are screaming to see us punished, God then takes the reigns and sees that those in command see us at no fault. He puts everything in perspective and takes care of his children.

  52. “That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.””(Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭23:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

We can learn from Paul as a church to encourage one another as the body of Christ by being faithful servants of God. When we are in the midst of this chaos for the 40 days of fire. We must remind one another to keep the light burning at all times. When Paul was spoken by the Lord to encourage himself by not to be discouraged of the chaos around him and continue to tell the good news.We must be like Paul think of the Goodness of God and be on our toes at all times to tell the good news.

  53. “That night the Lord appeared to Paul and said, “Be encouraged, Paul. Just as you have been a witness to me here in Jerusalem, you must preach the Good News in Rome as well.””
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭23:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Paul was given a word to stand on. God may not give us step by step directions but he will give us a solid word to stand on. Stand on His Promises!

  54. 13. That morning a group of more than 40 Jewish opponents conspired to kill Paul. They bound themselves by an oath that they wouldn’t eat or drink until he was dead

    23. Then he called for two officers. Commandant: At nine o’clock tonight, you will leave for Caesarea with 200 soldiers, 70 horsemen, and 200 spearmen.

    24. Have a mount for Paul to ride, and conduct him safely to Felix the governor. Voice

That’s the way our God works in our times of trouble-
When the enemy has 40 trying to kill you, God sends 470 to protect you and a ride to get you out of there!
