Job 29

Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,

Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

The princes refrained talking, and laid their hand on their mouth.

10 The nobles held their peace, and their tongue cleaved to the roof of their mouth.

11 When the ear heard me, then it blessed me; and when the eye saw me, it gave witness to me:

12 Because I delivered the poor that cried, and the fatherless, and him that had none to help him.

13 The blessing of him that was ready to perish came upon me: and I caused the widow’s heart to sing for joy.

14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.

15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.

16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

17 And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

18 Then I said, I shall die in my nest, and I shall multiply my days as the sand.

19 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.

20 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

21 Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

22 After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

23 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

24 If I laughed on them, they believed it not; and the light of my countenance they cast not down.

25 I chose out their way, and sat chief, and dwelt as a king in the army, as one that comforteth the mourners.

  1. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

    It seems that sometimes we forget how GOD has blessed us and kept us from certain situations. It isn’t always a good thing to sit and ponder on the past…. iit can be a blessing if we would use the situations to Glorify GOD it can be a total distraction. However GOD IS FAITHFUL!!!

  2. As I read this, it made me think of all the times God has blessed me, when He made a way when I thought there was absolutely no way! I’m sure Job was sitting their having a pity party, he seemed to be memory every bad time in his life. But we must remember that God will never leave us, he promised that He would be there for our “highs” and our “lows”!! What a great big God we serve!!

  3. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

    5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

  4. Job 28:1 Surely there is a vein for the silver, and a place for gold where they fine it.

    1 Kings 7:48-50 (KJV)
    48 And Solomon made all the vessels that [pertained] unto the house of the LORD: the altar of gold, and the table of gold, whereupon the shewbread [was], 49 And the candlesticks of pure gold, five on the right [side], and five on the left, before the oracle, with the flowers, and the lamps, and the tongs [of] gold, 50 And the bowls, and the snuffers, and the basons, and the spoons, and the censers [of] pure gold; and the hinges [of] gold, [both] for the doors of the inner house, the most holy [place, and] for the doors of the house, [to wit], of the temple.
    Mark 6:11 KJV
    [11] And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear you, when ye depart thence, shake off the dust under your feet for a testimony against them. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.
    Micah 7:19-20 KJV
    [19] He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea. [20] Thou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the mercy to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

    1 Peter 1:7 (KJV)
    7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:

  5. Sometimes we need to remembered all the blessings the Lord has given to us in the past so we may endure the present trials. In a way Job is saying “do you remember God?” One thing I know for sure God never forgets. Thank you Jesus for all the blessings of the past, present, and future!!!!

  6. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    As Job describes some of the former times he was preserved by God in all that he did. How he was a light as God shown upon him as he walked through the darkness. I find that sometimes that when we are struggling, we always want to go back to the times we were doing well and we were
    Not struggling with God. I often wonder why it is with folks in the church, they always want to go backwards. The scripture tells us that the latter rain is going to be more abundant than the former rain. I find that when we seek the kingdom of God, no matter the circumstances surrounding us at the time, we have to find God. We have to commit to his will in the bad times as well as the good. We have to know that he will keep us if we allow him. He does not leave us, we typically leave him. I will say that you will never move forward always looking back. Scripture tells us in psalms 121 to look unto the hills whence comes our help. It come from the Lord.

    Always look up and not backwards. Love the kingdom and love God with all that you got.

  7. 4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;
    5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;
    6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

    When I lived in ponca I had a very stable life, I had a house, a ministry, and a job I really loved to have….until God called me to Texas. It scared me and I was leaving everything I knew…but God was calling me to another level. I had to leave what I know for something I was unsure of. We cannot always yearn for what we used to have, in order to go from one mountain to the next, we must come down and go through the valley. Job valued his old life before his trial rather than looking forward to what may come after. We must continue to reach for tomorrow and appreciate today.

  8. God is good all the time , God is good

    The leaders of the people stopped talking and put their hands over their mouths. Even the most important leaders were quiet, as if their tongues were stuck to the roof of their mouths. All who heard me said good things about me. Those who saw what I did praised me, because I helped the poor when they cried out. I helped the orphans who had no one to care for them. People who were dying asked God to bless me. My help brought joy to widows in need. Right living was my clothing. Fairness was my robe and turban. I was like eyes for the blind, like feet for the crippled. I was like a father to the poor. I helped people I didn’t even know win their case in court. I stopped evil people from abusing their power and saved innocent people from them. “I always thought I would live a long life, growing old with my family around me. I was like a healthy plant with roots that have plenty of water and branches that are wet with dew. I thought each new day would bring more honor and be full of new possibilities.

  9. iLove the Kingdom
    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    Each one of us have thought like this. We remember when we first saw the Light. We remember when we first received the Holy Ghost. We remember the relationship we once had with God and we wish we could go back to that time. The thing about it is, we can’t go back. We have to continue to go forward and believe the best is yet to come regardless of how we “feel” at the moment. Revival for Job is right around the corner.

  10. Job 29
    2 “If only my life could be like it used to be,

    Famous words “If Only”………..

    2 Cor. 12:9-10 “And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness

    We can never go back to the past accept in our memories and that too fails from time to time.
    Someone gave me good instructions during one of the most trying times of my life. Yes hold on to your memories but I would begin making new ones. It’s what we do with the present the gift of today . It’s my choice.

    He keeps His promises…..He is my strength….

    “Yesterday is gone. Tomorrow has not yet come. We have only today. Let us begin.”. Mother Teresa

  11. Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

    5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

  12. It’s like what rev Michael Morgan said . Are you looking for wisdom? Wisdom is a hidden treasure. Here’s what God says about wisdom . And this is what he says to all humanity: ‘The fear of the Lord is true wisdom; to forsake evil is real understanding.’”
    Job 28:28 NLT .
    True wisdom is found in God and God alone

  13. In this chapter, Job is reminiscing about when God was still by his side. We too sometimes, when struggles come, forget that God is always by our side. My God does not change and He hasn’t left or moved. He knows exactly where you are, what you need and when you need it. So trust in the Lord and pray for wisdom! God is good.

  14. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TODAY

    14 I put on righteousness, and it clothed me: my judgment was as a robe and a diadem.
    15 I was eyes to the blind, and feet was I to the lame.
    16 I was a father to the poor: and the cause which I knew not I searched out.

    Job declares his testimony, which sounds much like Ministry.

    James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

    What we do and how we live has much to do with what we are wearing. Not only attire, but also our spirit. We don’t wear church clothes to cut the grass and we don’t wear sweaty work clothes to important meetings. Alike we don’t wear heaviness in the presence of GOD nor unrighteousness to work for JESUS.

    Romans 13:14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.

    When we put on RIGHTEOUSNESS we deny the flesh to serve in The Kingdom of GOD and when we serve in The Kingdom of GOD it will look much like Job 29:14-16 and James 1:27.

    The prophet Isaiah sums up what I feel the LORD would have me to say:

    Isaiah 61:3 To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

    The Garment of Praise rather than the spirit of heaviness; this is the identification of the Righteous.

    WHAT ARE YOU WEARING TODAY?

    Wear the GARMENT of PRAISE, the color does not matter. Put it on and get to CHURCH.

    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap

Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me; When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness; As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle; When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

    There’s a song that just popped in my head..

    Take me back, take me back dear Lord, to the place where I first received you!

    Sometimes we have to go back to that day, that moment where we knew we were sinners and we needed at that moment something, we dont know what, and then we get to an alter, on the side of a bed, in our living room, in our car, on the corner of a street, and we surrender it all to Jesus, We experience this release of pain and hurt and we cry, as life goes on and we are striving, we get cought up in serving, and we lose passion, or obedience or love, and we have to remember the moment that we first loved God! We can never lose our first love! I have to constantly strive, and yearn and seek, because otherwise I turn into a dead Christian, who’s working for Nora and not for God. Thank you Lord for Prayer last night, thank you for G-Force and for prayer in Apartments and CM outreach! God you are so good!
    FIRST THE KINGDOM
    WHEN LIFE IS GOOD, GOD IS GOOD

  16. 19 My root was spread out by the waters, and the dew lay all night upon my branch.
    20 My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

    Refreshing

    There is a refreshing if the Spirit that we can receive. From the power of the Holy Ghost. God can and He will, renew/refresh us. Seeking after His Kingdom, everyday, we will receive that renewing. This is why it is so important to have communication and relationship with the Father of us all. I want what He wants.

    Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  17. 29:1 Moreover Job continued his parable, and said,
    ——-
    So many things that Job did, when things were working out for him….. he did this and that, always acknowledging
    that it was because of God being with him.
    ———-
    Anyways… Because of God’s mercy , we woke up this morning 🙌🙌🙌 Let us TODAY serve the Lord with gladness and Let us not take for granted the opportunity , the blessing that he gives us this day.
    I Jesus name!!!!!

  18. Job is recounted his past life in this chapter. Although thankful for the blessings that he recognizes from the Lord that he has been blessed with, yet there is pride as well. “I” is found numerous times in this chapter which tends to lead us to believe that there is a “self righteous” attitude of look what I have done, and look where it got me.

    Pride is a silent killer. It destroys from the inside out and we must guard our heart and our minds against such attitude.

    Lord help us to be humble in all we do.

  19. Job 29:2 [Amp] Oh , that I were as in the months of old , as in the days when God watched over me. ]3]
    When His lamp shore above and upon my head and by His light I walked through darkness.
    [ Ezekiel 7:10 ] Behold, the day ! Behold, it has come! Your doom has gone fourth , the rod has blossomed, pride has budded. Always remember what God has done for you and your family. God is not finished yet. There still more to come. There are still alot of souls to be saved. Ask God for Wisdom. Throw down your past and live for Jesus !

  20. “I long for the years gone by when God took care of me… Those were the days…
    Job 29:2‭, 7 NLT

    Oh, for the good old days…

    Those who live in the past rarely make full use of their present.

    The past is good for counting blessings, for recounting victories, and for building on lessons learned. However, it is unprofitable to spend our time lamenting over days gone by.

    We cannot go back. We cannot reclaim those losses. All we can do is use them to propel us forward into the present darkness with an assurance that God is the same. The One who loved us and blessed us yesterday is loving us and working for our good today; but if we live in commiseration over blessings lost, we will blind ourselves to the new blessings God is sending our way.

    He is faithful. Let us turn our faces toward Him, and we will see Him in new ways that we could not even imagine yesterday.

  21. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    Living the blessed life and counting our blessing is good, but we must be careful not to let that blind us to our humble beginning. Remember the pit he dug you from and be ready to encourage someone else. Don’t be like the parable of the man who looked upon his blessings and said now I can take my ease, eat, drink and be merry -because it was then that God required of his soul.

  22. “I long for the years gone by when God took care of me, when he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness. When I was in my prime, God’s friendship was felt in my home.
    Job 29:2‭-‬4 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.29.2-4.NLT
    It’s one thing to remember the past and another thing to dwell on it. We know it was a tough time in Job’s life but we also know it’s going to get better and that God never left him. We go to different seasons in life and this was one for job. It was not like his youth but God was going to make it better! If we hold on through the dark days of our lives God will get us through to brighter days!

  23. And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain.

    Oh God bring the rain. Rain my life, rain in my spirit, in my family and church

  24. 3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    As we walk through life’s journey every day we have the wisest of knowing that we have god walking with us every where we go, and whenever it seems like it’s the darkest god is always there to shine through the darkness.

  25. “Everyone listened to my advice. They were silent as they waited for me to speak. And after I spoke, they had nothing to add, for my counsel satisfied them. They longed for me to speak as people long for rain. They drank my words like a refreshing spring rain.
    Job 29:21‭-‬23 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/job.29.21-23.NLT

    The power of godly wisdom! Thank you Jesus!!

  26. Job 29:2-3 (nlt)
    2) I long for the years gone by when God took care of me
    3) When he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness.

    This reminded me of our Bible verse from Wednesday night VBS. “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me.” (Psalms 23:4 – nlt)

    In St. John 8:12, JESUS says, ” … I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness,…

    We must remember, when walking through our darkest valley, that JESUS is close beside us (He will never leave us nor forsake us), and HE is the Light that is leading the way through the darkness.

    Thank You JESUS! YOU are an Awesome God!!

  27. 5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

    6 When I washed my steps with butter, and the rock poured me out rivers of oil;

    7 When I went out to the gate through the city, when I prepared my seat in the street!

    8 The young men saw me, and hid themselves: and the aged arose, and stood up.

  28. 4 As I was in the days of my youth, when the secret of God was upon my tabernacle;

    5 When the Almighty was yet with me, when my children were about me;

  29. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;
    3 When his candle shined upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness;

    There have been and will come seasons in my life where I have felt like Job. Where I just want to go back to when everything around me was right and peaceful. When it felt like the light of God was leading the path before me. Yet truth be told it’s in the hard places that the oil begins to flow. It’s in the crushing we are propelled into a new place in Him.

    I cannot tell you to enjoy the process because it often feel unbearable but I can say endure the process because it’s making you.

  30. While reading this chapter I thought of the sermon “Don’t Consult My Past For My Future”. God isn’t looking at what you’ve done before but what you are doing now.

    Will I praise him in the midnight hour or will I dwell on how he used to bless me? We’ve already been told God is preparing us for A New Thing and if we keep looking to our past to justify what we should do now, we’ll miss it.

    Get in position!

  31. 2 Oh that I were as in months past, as in the days when God preserved me;

    Sometimes it’s so hard to understand God’s ways. But He is still good all the time.

  32. “I long for the years gone by when God took care of me, when he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness.”
    ‭‭Job‬ ‭29:2-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    Like Job, I can remember being in a very lonely place trying to figure out where God went. I reminisced in the days when I could feel God’s presence and I didn’t question if he would show up. I remember wandering in the darkness trying to feel my way through life and wondering if there would ever be light again. But I kept pushing through, I kept moving even when I wasn’t sure where I was going. Eventually that light at the end of the tunnel was there, it was small, but it was there.

    So just because you’re at a point in your life where you can only remember the good days doesn’t mean there aren’t good days ahead. Keep moving, keep pushing, keep seeking, you’ll find that light again and it will shine brighter than before.

  33. 2“I long for the years gone by when God took care of me, 3 when he lit up the way before me and I walked safely through the darkness.

    Why would anyone want to leave this behind? Why would anyone want to go go back to their old lifestyle? If things are going good, your health is good, your finances are good, and your being blessed. With God, your path will continue to be light up, which leads to blessings, comfort and joy.
