Genesis 23
1 And Sarah was an hundred and seven and twenty years old: these were the years of the life of Sarah.
2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
3 And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6 Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
7 And Abraham stood up, and bowed himself to the people of the land, even to the children of Heth.
8 And he communed with them, saying, If it be your mind that I should bury my dead out of my sight; hear me, and intreat for me to Ephron the son of Zohar,
9 That he may give me the cave of Machpelah, which he hath, which is in the end of his field; for as much money as it is worth he shall give it me for a possession of a buryingplace amongst you.
10 And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying,
11 Nay, my lord, hear me: the field give I thee, and the cave that is therein, I give it thee; in the presence of the sons of my people give I it thee: bury thy dead.
12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17 And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
19 And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.
20 And the field, and the cave that is therein, were made sure unto Abraham for a possession of a buryingplace by the sons of Heth.

Abraham was a blessed man
It is hard to be a stranger in a foreign land; but it has to be harder to grieve for a love one and not have a place to bury them. Here Abraham must make Sarah’s funeral arrangements with the worry that they may say NO. But God is always by his side and Abraham because of his character and his reputation is called a prince. What they did not know is that Abraham is a prince of the Most High King. May you NEVER FORGET WHOSE YOUR DADDY!!! May you always treat your neighbors with respect and kindness for you never know when you’re going to need their helping hand. In Jesus Name Amen

Isn’t funny that being a stranger in a strange land, Abraham having to bury Sarah and not having a place already for that appointed time. I have come to the realization that when it is our time to be buried, it doesn’t really matter where our mortal bodies are covered by the dirt, because our souls are going back to the creator. We are strangers passing through this land we are in. I am reminded that this world is not my home I’m just a passing through. This song came to me this morning

2 And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan: and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.
Wow, this is truly a sad day for Abraham. His beloved Sarah is gone and the Bible says he came to mourn over her. Then right during his mourning, he has to conduct business among the people. The thing about it is, if Abraham would have accepted the land without paying a price for it, later when he passed folks could have taken it from his children. Always be careful to pay for what you want to keep in the future.
5. And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.

I love how in every conversation and agreement he has witnessed, and they spoke in the midst of others, Its always important to have. witness, you must protect your integrity, and your investment. God is great, he gave Abraham

Genesis 23
23 1-2 Sarah lived 127 years. Sarah died in Kiriath Arba, present-day Hebron, in the land of Canaan. Abraham mourned for Sarah and wept.
3-4 Then Abraham got up from mourning his dead wife and spoke to the Hittites: “I know I’m only an outsider here among you, but sell me a burial plot so that I can bury my dead decently.”
Abraham was a true evangelist.
He left his home as God commanded.
Now in a land where he was a foreigner.
From trust trials faith laughter now tears a life full but the question where will he leave his beloved.
God made a way He was still right there with him. The decision must have weighed heavily upon him.
Another testing of his faith another surrender but precious memories would forever linger within his heart.
Today Lord I pray for every missionary and evangelist. I pray that during the times of sorrow and death that You comfort then. Those who have sacrificed to be used in the Kingdom. You know the emotions of total surrender they experience during the challenge of life and death. I pray strength courage and peace that will surround them daily in the midst of heartache.
God our Provider and Peace in Jesus Name.

1.Sarah lived a long life she lived till she was 100 and Seven and Twenty Years Old Sarah has the Best Times of her Life on Earth.
2.when Sarah passed away in the land of Canaan it was not the same for her when she passed away in Kirjatharba, it made Abraham weep for Sarah when he came to Mourn.
3. So Before Abraham passed away he got up and spoke in front of the sons Heth.
12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
14 And Ephron answered Abraham, saying unto him,
15 My lord, hearken unto me: the land is worth four hundred shekels of silver; what is that betwixt me and thee? bury therefore thy dead.
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.

Abraham was a mighty prince in a strange and foreign place. He could have accepted the burial place without paying for it, but rather chose to do the honorable thing and pay to secure an upright and good name for his lineage.
12 And Abraham bowed down himself before the people of the land.
13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
This reminds me of David, whenever he said I will not offer that which cost me nothing. Some things require sacrifice. While it’s a nice gesture and free things are always seemingly like the best option. God requires a sacrifice on many occasions or we have to give something of ourselves. Abraham was so honorable that he refused to take the land for free that he paid what was owed for it instead of taking the offer. Not everything should be easy but should come with the price of sacrifice. When you have to sacrifice for something it means more when it cost of yourself

The man of great faith, the friend of God, wept for the loss of Sarah’s companionship. There was nothing weak or unbelieving about the tears of this man of faith.
16 So Abraham agreed to Ephron’s price and paid the amount he had suggested—400 pieces of silver, weighed according to the market standard. The Hittite elders witnessed the transaction.
This chapter shows, the men had respect and honored one another. They knew each other, they had a relationship of honor, respect and trust. If you give respect, you’ll receive respect, even the nonbelievers will respect and honor you.
1 Thessalonians 4:12 Then people who are not believers will respect the way you live, and you will not need to depend on others.

Your promise is not dead.
What did Abraham feel when his wife died? We would be foolish to think that he probably didnt ask God about His promises. When we hold fast to His Word, it will come to pass. When we seek after His Kingdom, we will find that the promises of God true will come.

Abraham refused to accept the MEMORIAL for his wife as a gift. Teaching us the principal of memorials. They are an investment.
When build MEMORIALS by and through our investments. Giving to The Kingdom of GOD FIRST establishes HIS Kingdom as a MEMORIAL.

Abraham was favored in that land, yet he still chose to pay what he owed. This was not sense of pride, maybe he just wanted to ensure that the land could never be taken from him. Or perhaps he believed for his wife, a sacrifice should be made.
“And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.”

Abraham had settled in Beersheba and Sarah was in Hebron. They were about 20 miles away from each other. Even after such a big promise from God a man and woman can still struggle and will have to work daily on their commitments to each other. When we don’t ask God to guide our marriage and trust Him each day and honor our commitment to each other it can leave us torn. Daily practices without relying on how we feel at that time. We honor out commitments everyday no matter how we feel. when you don’t feel the best you still get up and go to work because you have to honor that commitment. Same thing with your marriage whenever you don’t always feel like you’re absolutely in love with the person you still get up and you put the work in because it’s a commitment that you need to honor. My prayer today is over the marriages of the pofw and the body of Christ today in Jesus name.
3 Then Abraham stood up before his dead [wife’s body], and spoke to the [b]sons of Heth (Hittites), saying, 4 “I am a stranger and a sojourner (resident alien) among you; give (sell) me property for a burial place among you so that I may bury my dead [in the proper manner].”
Abraham was not from their country, but was requesting favor of them to bury Sarah his wife. I believe he showed utmost respect to them in making his request. I also believe that the time he had been in their land he and his family had showed utmost respect for the land that had now become their home.
This is the challenge that we face with our country. Many people want to make the good ole USA their country to live in, but they don’t want to respect what our country was founded upon.
Wherever we go, we must show godly respect so that the light and love of Jesus can be seen within us.

Respectful and wise. In all decisions we need to follow this example. We may be facing tough decisions we don’t want to make, but if we cry out for wisdom, we can rest assured God’s favor will go before us.
14 Ephron answered Abraham, 15 “My lord, please listen to me. The land is worth 400 pieces of silver, but what is that between friends? Go ahead and bury your dead.” NLT
A true friendship has no value or price tag!
In this chapter, we see Abraham being a righteous man even in his time of grief. He could have accepted or taken the land for a burial site as soon as he saw how they revered him; but, he didn’t. He wanted to rightfully pay for the land to the rightful owner and do it with witnesses so no gossip could begin or be told. We must never take advantage of or try to take something that is not rightfully ours to take. My Dad always says you will value something more, when it costs you something or you pay for it yourself.
Psalm 11:7 AMP “For the Lord is [absolutely] righteous, He loves righteousness (virtue, morality, justice); The upright shall see His face.”

Abraham had earned the respect it seems of this people and yet he wanted to pay for the place to bury his wife and not have it gifted to him. Depending on the what is being gifted, some things are much better purchased- like land. Future generations could take away a ‘gift’ not knowing or caring about Abraham. He was wise to purchase so that his sons and grandson had this land for a possession.

What strength Abraham had during this time, he lost his wife and yet he still did what he had to do to give her a burying place. A lot of times we fall short during the hard times, we can’t loose sight of God’s plan. I want the same faith and strength Abraham had. Thank you Jesus!
God told Abraham to bury Sarah and be respectfully bowed to God and did it. This relationship with God and Abraham is strong. We should try to always have this strong relationship with God. He created us to live for him. We should respect that he has excepted us as his own. BELIEVE IN HIM POFW.
““I am a foreigner and stranger among you. Sell me some property for a burial site here so I can bury my dead.”
Genesis 23:4 NIV
Favor!! Favor!! Favor!! Abraham has favor among those of the land that he was in, nobody cane against him when he requested a burial site. Instead, they were all willing to give what what’s there’s to him and his family! We too are foreigners on this earth, this is not our home we are just passing through and God has given us favor to the things around us. Favor in our families, on our job site, in our neighborhoods, everywhere!
Genesis 23
10-18. Abraham refused to accept the burying place for Sarah as free. He insisted upon an asking price and then paid the price asked all in front of witnesses, thus securing the purchase. It appears it was a beautiful place; one that future generations would be comforted to visit.

That’s why some people want to make sure they have everything ready all the necessary arrangements for that particular time.

Like Abraham and those of faith who have gone before us, we are only strangers, sojourners, and pilgrims in this world.

In this world anymore
Fore we too are “looking for a city which hath foundation, whose builder and maker is God.” (Heb. 11:10)

We are strangers to this world. When we need to bury our loved ones, we are only asking to keep them here for a little while because we know this is not their final resting place. I can’t wait to get to Heaven to see and greet the loved ones that have passed on. We are strangers here, but soon and very soon we will be going home.

*Lugar para sepultura
Siendo extranjero, Abraham no tenía tierras como propiedad; ellos llevaban una vida de nómadas. Pero al morir Sara, Abraham buscó un lugar donde enterrarla. El problema es que legalmente no podía hacerlo.
*Como extranjero, Abraham no tenía el derecho legal de comprar tierra en Canaán. Sabiendo esto, él decidió apelar a las autoridades de Hebrón.
Abraham se dirigió a la puerta de la ciudad, donde se trataban todos los asuntos legales y civiles de la comunidad (Gen. 23:10; 23:18). Allí presentó su caso y apeló.

*Abraham llevaba años viviendo en la región, y se había ganado el respeto de los locales. Por eso respondieron positivamente…
(Génesis 23:5-6) Y los hijos de Het respondieron a Abraham, diciéndole: (6) Óyenos, señor nuestro: eres un príncipe poderoso entre nosotros; sepulta a tu difunta en el mejor de nuestros sepulcros, pues ninguno de nosotros te negará su sepulcro para que sepultes a tu difunta.
*La oferta que le hacían parecía generosa, pero Abraham no quería dejar a Sara el la tumba de alguien más. El quería una propia, que perteneciera a su familia. Por ello, les propuso lo siguiente:
(Génesis 23:7-9) Abraham se levantó e hizo una reverencia al pueblo de aquella tierra, los hijos de Het, (8) y habló con ellos, diciendo: Si es vuestra voluntad que yo sepulte a mi difunta de delante de mí, oídme e interceded por mí con Efrón, hijo de Zohar, (9) para que me dé la cueva de Macpela que le pertenece, que está al extremo de su campo. Que en presencia de vosotros me la dé por un precio justo en posesión para una sepultura.
*Abraham era un hombre visionario. El no sólo estaba pensando en un lugar para enterrar a Sara, y cubrir la necesidad inmediata, sino también estaba pensando en él y sus hijos. Además, Abraham no estaba pidiendo nada regalado; él estaba dispuesto a pagar el precio justo por el terreno. Él estaba haciendo lo posible por comprar un terreno que se convirtiera en su primera propiedad en la Tierra Prometida.
“Sir,” they answered, “you are an important man. Choose the best place to bury your wife. None of us would refuse you a resting place for your dead.”

Abraham was a man that loved His wife. But most importantly he was a man who served GOD wholeheartedly. Because of it, he it he had found favor in the land of Canaan. Now he has found a resting place for the love of his life. During this time he may had felt alone, but to know that the LORD is always with you in your darkest moments of life is Key!!
God knows how to bless his people if they follow his word. You can’t expect to receive the promise when you’re doing your own thing. It is essential to follow the directions that God gives if we want to receive the promises he has for us.

Abraham was a mighty and obedient man of God.
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
Here we see Abraham’s grief here in Sarah’s death. Abraham could have buried her their for free, given to him by people who saw him as a prince. He exhibits great integrity so no man can take the credit of giving Abraham the land to burry his wife. The blessings Abraham received came from the Lord. It may have been 400 shekels of silver but he was persistent to pay for it fair and square.
16 And Abraham hearkened unto Ephron; and Abraham weighed to Ephron the silver, which he had named in the audience of the sons of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, current money with the merchant.
17 And the field of Ephron which was in Machpelah, which was before Mamre, the field, and the cave which was therein, and all the trees that were in the field, that were in all the borders round about, were made sure
18 Unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.
When something is valuable to you will pay the price for it’s worth. What are we willing to give up for getting closer to God. The only thing God asks is for us to carry our cross and follow him, and give him our heart.
Better is a little with righteousness than great revenues without right. The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

*Machpelah = “double” or “portion”

** Matthew 12:4 (KJV) How he entered into the house of God, and did eat the shewbread, which was not lawful for him to eat, neither for them which were with him, but only for the priests?
And Abraham stood up from before his dead, and spake unto the sons of Heth, saying,
4 I am a stranger and a sojourner with you: give me a possession of a buryingplace with you, that I may bury my dead out of my sight.
5 And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,
6 Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.
We must be mindful of the way others see us. In moments of pain what we see is pain and others see royalty. Live life that even in your greatest hurts others don’t see your anger and pan the see Zoe’s us.
13 And he spake unto Ephron in the audience of the people of the land, saying, But if thou wilt give it, I pray thee, hear me: I will give thee money for the field; take it of me, and I will bury my dead there.
Abraham could’ve felt entitled ,but no he did not take advantage of the situation instead he decided to offer money and pay for it as much as it was worth not what he thought it might be worth but he paid the amount mentioned to him by the owner…. never taking advantage of someones hospitality or the heart of JESUS that one may demonstrate with gladness the love of GOD. after all we are nobody without GOD !!!!
Abraham being a foreigner and trusting god like he should led him to success. When i first came to Jesus it wasnt so hard to trust in Jesus because all the things ive been through and how i came to get out of it. I now know that it wasnt luck but it was the work of god and hes been watching over me since my first breath.
This reminds me of how in one sermon Pastor preached, he gave the example of how he was in a drive-thru line and was going to pay for the meal of the truck in front of him. However, the truck in front of him was a POFW family and they wanted to pay for his meal.
Good times, good times
On a serious note, when God presents the opportunity to be a blessing to others don’t tarry! It may seem like a small gesture but you never know what it means or where it could lead to. The world may label it “Paying it Forward” when all it is is making sure you are in position to be a servant unto God.
