Proverbs Chapter 31

Genesis 38

And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.

And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father’s house.

12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah’s wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.

13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.

14 And she put her widow’s garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.

15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.

16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.

21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.

22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.

23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.

24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff.

26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.

28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

  1. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Sometimes whenever the lord gives us instructions or gives us a word that isn’t what are carnal side wants to hear we are sometimes stubborn and ignore the lord’s voice and try to do things our way which is spiritual deadly and it show the lord that we aren’t an obedient servant and he will not use us for his will, we must always live a righteous and holy lifestyle so that way the lord will see that we are obedient and that he can use us no matter what or where.

  2. 17“I’ll send you a young goat from my flock,” Judah promised. “But what will you give me to guarantee that you will send the goat”?, she asked.

The greatest guarantee we have is from Jesus. He guarantees us salvation once we repent, receive the Holy Spirit and baptized in his name. Instead of asking “what will you give me”, ask “how may I serve you “.

  3. Genesis 38
24About three months later Judah was told, “Your daughter-in-law Tamar is guilty of prostitution, and as a result she is now pregnant.”

Judah said, “Bring her out and have her burned to death!”

25As she was being brought out, she sent a message to her father-in-law. “I am pregnant by the man who owns these,” she said. And she added, “See if you recognize whose seal and cord and staff these are.”

    Proverbs 26:26
Their malice may be concealed by deception, but their wickedness will be exposed in the assembly.

    Romans 16:18
18 For such people are not serving our Lord Christ, but their own appetites. By smooth talk and flattery they deceive the minds of naive people.

Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye” (Matthew 7:1-5).

In other words it’s best to stay real close to God don’t judge anyone lest you too be judged and if you are single.you better do a lot of praying and fasting lest you find yourself in a heap of trouble. Im sure God is saddened when He see things that even children of God entertain pictures text seductive music why allow this world to entice you with its luring practices that have become the normal. We the bride of Christ must be different. I pray for all of our singles today as we walk through this world . Cover our thoughts our hearts that we may come before you as a bride waiting for her Groom . In Jesus name.

Men’s tradition is hard to break , specially when it looks like we’re trying to do the will of God .

  5. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

We find that the there several times where instructions were given and not followed directly. I find that God is distinct in giving man instructions to be followed in everything we do whether it’s how we pray or how we worship. We have to do exactly how he tells us. When we seek first the kingdom of God we are to allow the instructions of God to lead and guide us and if we don’t then he deals harshly with each of us.

If we just submit our will to his it is beneficial to our eternal destiny and we shall forever be with him in glory.

  6. 7 And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.
8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

So grateful and appreciative of the grace of God that he extends his Mercy to us in times that we least deserve it. The old testament we see many times where God’s judgement, although righteous, was rather quick. But thanks be to Christ for his patience with us while we learn the error of our ways that would save us from his judgement

  7. While she was in labor, one of the babies reached out his hand. The midwife grabbed it and tied a scarlet string around the child’s wrist, announcing, “This one came out first.” But then he pulled back his hand, and out came his brother! “What!” the midwife exclaimed. “How did you break out first?” So he was named Perez. Then the baby with the scarlet string on his wrist was born, and he was named Zerah.

I see a certain attitude that Tamar keeps. She is obedient, but also is insistent on making sure she gets what she needs. She had been married twice and wanted a child but the person who had promised that to her had no intention of actually following through. Now I don’t agree with the way she went about doing it of course but she took the actions and addressed the bloodline where her child was supposed to be coming from. And not only did she get one child she got two from it. And then you see that same attitude in both of her children because the first one stuck its hand out and then Perez pushed through and broke forth first. I’m anxious to see where this character trait is going to show up in later chapters.

  8. 8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.
When situations dont seem right to us, it can be difficult to be obedient.
Our opinion can get in the way of our blessing.

  9. “What do you want?” he asked in return. “The ring on that cord around your neck,” was her reply. “I also want the special walking stick you have with you.” He gave them to her, they slept together, and she became pregnant.
    Genesis 38:18 CEV

Giving up your name(Judah =Praise) and position for a moment of pkeasure….. God help me to crucify the desires of this flesh. To walk in obedience, and integrity. That I may not forget who you are, for you are Holy and I am to be holy.

  10. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    BREAKOUT

29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

Life presents circumstances and challenges that cannot control, such as a twin birth process. It is not clear to me how that a child not yet born of the womb could demonstrate and possess such tenacity as to lay claim on his brothers heal and supplant, displace and overtake him for the birthright. However, it is apparently possible to BREAKOUT in an unfovorable position and circumstance.

When we find ourselves up against tough and challenging situations, we are wise to reach out, stretch forth and overtake hinderances and circumstances that may challenge us. When we seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD, we position ourselves to overtake and BREAKOUT into VICTORY through Christ JESUS.

Never settle for less than First The Kingdom of GOD. Always persevere in tenacious passion to be victorious.

  11. 26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

We must be very careful with our actions!!! Here Judah went too far from the very beginning. Everything that starts by braking the rules ends on disaster. Judah starts again by taking women from outside to marry his boys. God has said several time and Israel told them not to take women from the surrounding land; but obviously they disobeyed. Christians by name only are like that, they call themselves Christians but go around the world acting like the world. Judah laid with whom he thought was a harlot, and gave too much in return, 25 When she was brought forth, she sent to her father in law, saying, By the man, whose these are, am I with child: and she said, Discern, I pray thee, whose are these, the signet, and bracelets, and staff. For a Shepherd the staff is one of his biggest and most valuable possessions. It usually has the markings of his ancestors and of his own so it worked like an id of today. If it wasn’t for that she would of have died. We can’t just go by through the world acting like them without any consequences. May God help us act righteous and keep His commandments all the time so the world can see Christ through our actions!!! In Jesus Name Amen 🙏🏻

  12. Another chapter that holds deception. Deception never leads to good. You reap what you sow, so be aware that anything that you have to deceive someone to get, give, or do, no good thing will come from it.

The all seeing eye of the Lord sees and knows everything thing done, said and thought, so don’t allow the thought for deception to take root in your life.

1 Corinthians 3:18 Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.

  13. Weird 🙃???????
So she end. Up getting pregnant by her father in law?
Still meditating on it, Lord give me understanding🙏.

  14. Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father’s house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. https://bible.com/bible/1/gen.38.11-26.KJV

Judah made a promiss to Tamar, and he didnt honor it, so she did to Judah what she felt right, I’m sure that she didnt want to. But she felt I’m sure as if she has no choice! But when word came to Judah, he was ready to kill her, but when she uncovered the plot, he didnt have any choice but to realize he was wrong. God never makes promises he doesn’t keep, sometimes we get impatient and from there we get frustrated, and often move on our own understanding! I have to wait on God. Not every situation is going to turn out good when I move on my own.

    FIRST THE KINGDOM
When life is unfair…GOD IS GOOD

  15. Genesis 38:10 KJV
[10] And the thing which he did displeased the Lord : wherefore he slew him also.

    *Matthew 6:33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well

    *1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.

    *Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

    *Proverbs 16:25
There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

  16. 16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?

17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?

18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.

19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.

20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman’s hand: but he found her not.

Tamar knew she was doing the wrong thing but also Judah didn’t do what he was supposed to do.

  17. Genesis 38: 17 [ Amp] He answered, I will send you a kid from the flock. And she said, Will you give me a pledge ( deposit) until you sent it? This greatest thing that could ever happen to you is to Repent for remission of your sins and Be Baptist in Jesus name and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. When life is not fair , God is good !

  18. 7And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.

Just because you live in a Spiritual atmosphere, doesn’t mean you are spiritual. As i was reading this, my heart goes out to the many youth who are trying their best to live for God in a home where God is not the center. My heart also goes out to those youth who were brought up in this great gosple. It goes to show that your surroundings dont have to mean what you will become. There is a choice for each of us to make everyday. Too often we judge someone by their surroundings and how they look and talk. And too a certain point that is true, however, then we have the Spirit of God working inside of us. People see that, and they wonder how you are so free? We must be a light to this world by sharing what God can do in their life.

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  19. iLove the Kingdom

And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

It’s easy to pronounce judgement…until you find out it was because of you! We must all be careful not to judge folks because many times we do far worse than the person we are judging. The Bible is full of strange laws and customs however, we must realize this all happened before the law of Moses set out the “rules”. Thank God for the grace and mercy of the cross and the New Testament!

  20. This chapter makes me think of the scripture that there is a way that seems right unto man, but end thereof is the way of death. We can’t just live by our own ways or by the ways of society, rather we must live according to the Lord’s ways so we can be blessed coming in and going out.

  21. Deceive: (of a person) cause (someone) to believe something that is not true, typically in order to gain some personal advantage. If you go to the extreme of being deceptive to get something you may want, it is wrong and nothing good will come it.

Ephesians 5:6 AMP “Let no one deceive you with empty arguments [that encourage you to sin], for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience [those who habitually sin].”

  22. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord ; and the Lord slew him. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord : wherefore he slew him also.
    Genesis 38:7‭, ‬10 KJV

I thank God for his mercy and grace given to me when he died on the cross.

  23. 7. And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.

    10. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

We shouldn’t take too lightly the mercy that God shows us by giving us time to repent when we displease Him. Our life came from Him and belongs to Him; His to do with as He chooses.

  24. 24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom.

No matter problems are.have … If we would allow only God to fix our hearts and renew our minds! Live everyday in thanks!!
“Yes, Lord…. Yes, Lord…. From the bottom of my heart til the rest of my soul..yes, Lord, completely yes. .My soul says yes!

  25. 10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Another chapter full of deception. It never works out folks. Never. Be holy, be truthful, and serve the Lord so our lives are pleasing to Him!

  26. 7 And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.

10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Thankful that we have the opportunity today to repent and seek forgiveness.

  27. 24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom.

Judah did not care for Tamar, the widowed wife of two of his sons. He found it easy to pass judgment on someone who sinned just as he sinned, without passing the same judgment on himself.

  28. 26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.

It’s hard to believe that Tamar’s actions have been righteous. Two of Judah’s sons had dropped dead on account of being wicked in God’s sight. Sadly, Judah didn’t start his family with the best choices either. Each bad decision had a way of snow balling to this predicament. If we take situations in our own hands they can end in disaster. Tamar May have gotten the children that she wanted but she didn’t get the marriage she desired either. Compromising lead her to this point and if we avoid it we can change our outcome.

  29. Genesis 38:24, 27-30
    24) And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.

    27) And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.
    28) And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.
    29) And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out; and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his named was called Pharez.
    30) And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

As we read this chapter, we might think “what a messed up situation,” lies, deception, BUT God has a plan in all this. Hebrews 7:14 says, “For it is evident that our LORD sprang out of Juda;…”
    St. Matt. 1:3 & 16
    3) And Judas begat Phares and Zara of Thamar; and Phares begat Esrom; and Esrom begat Aram;……………………………………………………………….
and so forth and so on, then…
    16) And Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom was born JESUS, who is called Christ.

  30. Genesis 38

1 And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

  31. “And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first. And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez. Crazy to think Perez is the lineage of David and Christ. Crazy to think how Perez was brought into the World by his mother deceiving the old man and she got a set of twins from it. Think about it, if Judah would’ve had Tamar burnt where would Joseph and Mary be? This crazy thing that happened had its part in the whole shabang and our salvation. God took that and used it. Think about all of us, some of us were crazy, drug using, alcohol drinking, wacko’s and now Jesus is using us to reach the world. God can use anyone and turn them into something positive, it’s all for His glory don’t ever discredit the Holy Ghost for saving you from a world of chaos and craziness.

  32. 7 And Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.
8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
10 And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

Sometimes we take God’s instructions and commandments too lightly.
“And Er. . . was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.”
Don’t be evil or wicked. The penalty could be death!
“And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother. . . . went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground. . . . the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.”
God puts people in our life to be spiritual leaders. God will not always talk directly to us. He tells us how he wants us to act and what he wants from us through that leadership and authority. When we go against that authority and choose not to be in total submission. At times the penalty could be death. Be submitted. Go in total submission and listen to the direction and authority God has put in and over your life.

  33. 29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.

30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.

Pharez mean division or rupture and Zarah means brightness or east. When you rupture something it breaks suddenly. Even though Zarah had his hand out first Pharaz broke through suddenly. Zarah was the sun rise to Pharaz when he busted forth out of his mothers wound. Im very intrigued to see how these 2 get along. Jacob and Esau had there diffaculties too.

  34. It’s best not to displease the Lord, The Lord killed many in this chapter for acting wickedly
Genesis 38:7 And Er, Juda’s firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him.
v.9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his ; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother’s wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord: wherefore he slew him also.

  35. It’s easy to get caught up in the things of the world. This is why the bible tells us to watch and pray. We must not let the trials of life bring us down. In God is where our strength lieth. He is able to pull us out of every trouble.

  36. We must live righteously and pure in heart and not judge others. Only God can judge us. Lord you are merciful and worthy of praise. Thank you Jesus

  37. 2 And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

3 And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

4 And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

5 And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

    The offspring of Praise.

The sons of Judah were Er, Onan, and Shelah. The first three from a mother whose name is not mentioned. By definition each one: Awake, Strong, a Petition. What can we say then? Well you wanna get an answer from God, you want to awake a strong petition? Praise Him! Your praise will birth your answer. Later on we encountered 2 more sons of Judah, by definition “Breach” and “Rising” so I would add.. you want a breakthrough? Praise Him, wanna rise out of your situation? Praise Him!! Praise God. All of th is is the offspring of praise. Send up Judah and watch things: Awake, Strong, Petition, Breach, Rising… your praise is so powerful

  38. “But Onan knew that the child would not be his; so whenever he slept with his brother’s wife, he spilled his semen on the ground to keep from providing offspring for his brother. What he did was wicked in the Lord’s sight; so the Lord put him to death also.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭38:9-10‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We all have a duty and responsibilities to fulfill, whether we want to or not. Onan’s duty and responsibility was to bear children for his brother. He decided he didn’t agree with this so he deliberately did what he could to stop that from happening and God killed him. Deliberately standing as an obstacle in God’s plan is as equal to straight up rebellion. Don’t commit spiritual suicide by not doing what you know you should be doing.

  39. People don’t always know what is happening. Sometimes they make assumptions about someone’s integrity without knowing all the information. In this case it was stated that the one who was wrongly accused was actually more righteous than the rest.

We need to be careful in our own lives that we are not quick to judgment. Sometimes there is much more than just the information we know. Sometimes the person we are judging is actually better than we are.
