Genesis 50

And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.

And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.

And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,

My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.

And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.

And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.

10 And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.

11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

12 And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:

13 For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

14 And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.

15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

16 And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,

17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.

18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

25 And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

26 So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

  1. Genesis 50
15 When Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “What if Joseph holds a grudge against us and pays us back for all the wrongs we did to him?” 16 So they sent word to Joseph, saying, “Your father left these instructions before he died: 17 ‘This is what you are to say to Joseph: I ask you to forgive your brothers the sins and the wrongs they committed in treating you so badly.’ Now please forgive the sins of the servants of the God of your father.” When their message came to him, Joseph wept.

18 His brothers then came and threw themselves down before him. “We are your slaves,” they said.

19 But Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid. Am I in the place of God? 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives. 21 So then, don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your children.” And he reassured them and spoke kindly to them.

    True forgiveness holds no grudges.

  2. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Even if some situations might seem not so good at first, God has a plan for everyone. He puts us through trials to strengthen us to do other things.

  3. 15 “And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.”

17 ‭‭“So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.”

20 “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

When you don’t repent and forgive yourself guilt and fear Will follow you until you truly repent and forgive yourself .

  4. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

The greatest thing that we can have in God is hope and trust. We find that sometimes in our walk with God, there are going to be those that will mean to bring harm against us and there will not be any victory for the enemy. Because what is meant for evil against us, the lord will take it and turn it for our good. He is the creator and lord of all, he has the very power to turn every enemy aside and defeat them without us.

He has given us every need and every resource that we need to walk this walk We have all the tools to bring forth a successful walk in whatever endeavor he has for us. Without him we are nothing. Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and he will do everything we need to victorious in our walk and before our enemy.

  5. Verses 19-21 AMP “But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? [Vengeance is His, not mine.] As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day]. So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and support you and your little ones.” So he comforted them [giving them encouragement and hope] and spoke [with kindness] to their hearts.” Joseph understood that he was not to be judge and jury towards his brothers. He knew that it was God behind it all in order for His plan to come to pass. Joseph could have been bitter, angry and taken it upon himself to punish his brothers. He had the authority and power to do away with them; but, he didn’t. Instead, he comforted them them, gave them encouragement/hope and spoke kindness. Wow, talk about being the bigger person….that is God living inside of you! So do not fret or worry if it seems as some people are against you or doing you wrong (evil)…..God will take care of it.

Psalm 55:22 AMP “Cast your burden on the Lord [release it] and He will sustain and uphold you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken (slip, fall, fail).”

1 Peter 5:7 AMP “casting all your cares [all your anxieties, all your worries, and all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares about you [with deepest affection, and watches over you very carefully].”

  6. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

Lord, help me to stay focused when I don’t understand the purpose three struggle when I can’t see the outcome! I will be the first to admit, it’s a REAL with flesh.

    Ephesians 6:12
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.

  7. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

God will always use everything for your good and His Glory!!! So don’t worry about the trials you go through but rejoice and watch God change it around.

  8. **Lord, help me to stay focused when I don’t understand the purpose or the struggle of a situation. When I can’t see the outcome! I will be the first to admit, it’s a REAL with flesh!

  9. 15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

It’s always good to forgive. You will feel like a huge weight has been lifted off and can move on forward with your walk with christ with forgiveness.

  10. 18. And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

    19. And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

    26. So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

Here we see demonstrated both a spirit of repentance by the perpetrators and a spirit of forgiveness by the victim.

Whichever side of the situation you are on, don’t wait until it’s too late to make things right and put the past behind you.

  11. Genesis 50: 19-20 [Amp] And Joseph said to them Fear not; for I am in the place of God?
[ Vengeance is His, not mine.
[20] As for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring about that many people should be kept alive, as they are this day.
Don’t hold grudges against anyone, Love one another and forgive one another and pray one another. The Lord will take care of it, And he will get the glory for it.

  12. “So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him. And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants. And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

It’s easy to forgive and see the good things out of the bad when you’re living steadfast for Jesus.
When anger or wrath gets ahold of us it’s our flesh trying to take ahold of a situation God could’ve put you in. All the things Joseph went through led a perfect example in history how to
    -Be patient in the Lord
    -Be thankful in the Lord
    -Be consistent in the Lord
    -Be obedient in the Lord
-And Be forgiving to those who trespass against you even your own brother.

I pray the book of Genesis has given us deep revelation and a new understanding to new situations.
    In Jesus name

  13. But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in the place of God? [Vengeance is His, not mine.] As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present outcome, that many people would be kept alive [as they are this day]. So now, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and support you and your little ones.” So he comforted them [giving them encouragement and hope] and spoke [with kindness] to their hearts.
    GENESIS 50:19‭-‬21 AMP

How beautiful it is, when I look back over my life. ‘The black sheep’ of my family. The rejection of a mother towards daughter, not wanted, not loved, verbal abuse, physical abuse, mental abuse, sexual abuse..ect. But the fact that the LORD has always been with me through it all. His love, mercy, and grace has shown me differently. The power of true forgiveness allows you to see beyond the pain and hurt. It allows you to simply love those who did not want anything to do with you. Wow!!!! BUT GOD💕💕
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound; To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord , and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord , that he might be glorified.
    Isaiah 61:1‭-‬3 KJV

I love the fact that His LOVE surrounds me♥️♥️♥️

  14. 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

There is no substitute for a forgiving heart. There’s nothing like it nor will there ever be. There’s not enough gold or riches in the world that can replace having the type of heart that can forgive others who meant harm. It’s all about having the understanding that God is in control you can turn anything around and being open to what God has for us. His way is hardly ever our way but it is always the best way. the best thing we can ever do for ourselves is to learn to forgive those who have hurt us and understand that God allowed it for whatever reason he may have had.

  15. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

What was once meant for evil, God turned it and made it to good for His people and for His glory. Never doubt the plan and goodness of God!

  16. But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
    Genesis 50:20 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/gen.50.20.KJV

We don’t know the fullness of our path or future, but God does. Even in the depths of our darkest times or in the grips of turmoil when it seems all hope is lost God is doing His greatest work. I heard once that God works the hardest in the shadow of your valley or situation and I have experienced that for myself. God is so good to us. Even in our pain we need to trust Him.

  17. 17 So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father.

Lord, help me forgive like Joseph forgave. And help me remember that when we are going through a storm, You are there with me and will hold me together and pull me through.
It just might all be for the BEST!

  18. iLove the Kingdom
Genesis 50:25  And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

The people of the book were square business about their bones. Joseph, just like his paw, wanted to make sure that his bones were planted in the promised land. This world is not my home, I’m just passing through…

Heb 11:13 These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.
Heb 11:14 For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country.
Heb 11:15 And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from whence they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.
Heb 11:16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

The point is, even though the great Patriarch’s confessed this world was not their own, they still had great respect for the dead body realizing it would one day be resurrected.

  19. 2 And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.

The Egyptians are known for the way they embalm and preserve the body, putting organs in jars, etc. I wonder if these Egyptian physicians embalmed him their traditional way or the Egyptian way?

9 And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.
11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abelmizraim, which is beyond Jordan.

    The first recorded funeral procession.

I hope to always have the wisdom as Joseph. I want to be the level headed one that says, “Yes, you hurt me, but look who it saved.” What God meant for good, to bring to pass, to save so many people. And then not only have that wisdom, but the forgiveness and mercy to say “I will still take care of you, your family, and you children.” To comfort and speak kindly to even the one that hurt me.

  20. Genesis 50:15-26 The Brothers Fear Joseph

v.20-21 But as for ye, you thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake Kindly unto them.

Always remember what people meant for evil, God has intended for good. In this chapter this is one of the clearest declarations of divine providence found anywhere in the Bible, God’s purpose always prevails over evil men.

    Matthew 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which is despitefully use you, and persecute you;

Bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them that persecute you. Loving an enemy involves doing good toward that enemy in order to win him over to Christ.

Love and forgiveness will win this world to Jesus!!! Revival of backsliders!

  21. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Too often in the forgiveness process, we forget to forgive ourselves. Yes we need to ask God to forgive us, and the person we did wrong too. But when those are complete, we must forgive ourselves for allow it to happen. Guilt is a powerful emotion, and that is evident in many suicides. Someone did something wrong and they could not forgive themselves for it.
When Jesus died on the cross, and absorbed all the sins of humanity, God Spirit had to forgive Jesus Flesh. God had to forgive Himself.
When we seek after the Kingdom of God, it is important to learn how to not only forgive each other, but to forgive yourself and move on.

Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  22. After burying Jacob, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had accompanied him to his father’s burial. But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became fearful. “Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said. to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept. Then his brothers came and threw themselves down before Joseph. “Look, we are your slaves!” they said. But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people. No, don’t be afraid. I will continue to take care of you and your children.” So he reassured them by speaking kindly to them.
    Genesis 50:14‭-‬15‭, ‬17‭-‬21 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/gen.50.14-21.NLT

I liken this to life, Joseph had already told them he forgave them, and all the years that they spent eating and drinking, Joseph loved his brothers, but they were letting the things that happened in the past hold them in Bondage, they felt that Jacob was protecting them. It’s a little comical how they were emphasizing Servants of God, and Our Father Jacob Commended us. I think Jacob read right through it. So Joseph was still Joseph, I think he first wasnt even thinking about it, he wasn’t no ordinary slave, he had privileges that no other slave has had. Life would be so much easier if we let the past Go! Repenting and apologizing for stuff that has already been forgiven is futile. All that’s saying is it’s still in your heart, and you havent forgiven yourself. GET OVER YOURSELF NORA!

    First the Kingdom
When life is scary….God is good

So after Isreal was buried: his elder sons soon thought that Joseph was going to get revenge for what they had done to him. Sometimes people think the worst of a situation before they even talk with the one they caused harm too. That is a carnal mind; we have to chose to forgive. I know that sometimes in a situation it can be hard to forgive someone, but the bible tells us that we must forgive or bitterness can set in; which leads to anger; which leads to us being prideful. Everything that we do can ultimately lead to our own destruction in God’s eyes. We have to see everything from God’s view. What’s the worst that can happen; God opens our heart to be a better Christian. That is where we need to walk. Does it mean we’re weak: no. It simply means that we’re strong enough to say, “I forgive you for the things that you said or did to me.” Then you have to forgive yourself for carrying that burden. We can’t forgive others and forget to ask for our own forgiveness for our thoughts or actions. Jesus thank you for guiding me to not only forgive those that trespass against me, but also forgiving me for any thoughts or actions about that situation.

When forgiveness is hard…..God is good!!!

  24. Genesis 50:20, “But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.”

Once again Romans 8:28 comes to mind, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
ALL THINGS Joseph went through WORKED TOGETHER FOR GOOD and for a PURPOSE, and that PURPOSE was “To Save Much People.” (his family).

I / You may not understand right now the things we are going through, but just remember: they will “work together for good” and their is a “purpose” in all of it.

  25. My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.

[2] It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron’s beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments; [3] As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.

[13] Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: [14] That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; [15] But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: [16] From whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love. [17] This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind, [18] Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart: [19] Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness. [20] But ye have not so learned Christ; [21] If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: [22] That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; [23] And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; [24] And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness. [25] Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another. [26] Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: [27] Neither give place to the devil. [28] Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth. [31] Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

  27. 23 And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.
24 And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

This last statement of Joseph is one that the Hebrew people will need to hold to as years of slavery come and slowly pass. Hold on to the promises of God especially in the hardest if times.

  28. Genesis Chapter 50 verses 5-8
What Verses 5-8 are telling me is that so Pharaoh Was talking about his father that he digged his grave in the land of Canaan so he could bury his father in that grave in the land of Canaan and Pharaoh will pray and he will come again,Pharaoh made his father swear while he was burying him and Pharaoh went with Joseph to bury his father as he was going with the servants the elders in the land of Egypt and So Joseph was in his fathers house with little ones and the herds and the flocks that he left the land of goshen.

  29. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

How many times has God done this for us in our lives as well as those around us? Taking what was meant for evil and turning it around and using it for good!

What a MIGHTY God we Serve!!

  30. 19And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

What was meant for evil God made good. What would have happened if Joseph would have not turned the other cheek? It’s so easy to allow our flesh to make decisions for us based on our feelings Joseph could have done evil back unto them but he realized who has all power. He never doubted god.Regardless of what may be currently going on in our lives let’s realize that God has all power and can turn any situation around. Don’t doubt the one true living God.

  31. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    A SAVIOR

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

In this passage I see the works of our Savior JESUS through the attitude and actions of Joseph. Joseph was no doubt rejected of his own and exported to a place of abundant blessing “Goshen”. The similarity is likened unto JESUS rejection of his own and HIS now place of Blessing.

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Without the death burial and resurrection of JESUS we would have no clear path to salvation.

Joseph was mocked, rejected and persecuted for his GOD given Dreams. But GOD was using them to save not only his family but MUCH PEOPLE. Despise not your current rejection or ostracism from friends or family. But GOD is using you to prepare a path of salvation for many.

I have often wrestled with why and how did Israel become slaves to Egypt and Pharoah. My Vision is clearer now. Israel and their bondage is a type of the last day church. We were born in sin and need a savior.

Israel and his children would have starved to death if it had not been for Joseph. Israel would have never moved to Goshen on his own. GOD is moving for a Fruitful and Victorious end.

    • FIRST THE KINGDOM
THE KEY TO OPENING SALVATION – REPENTANCE

Those that so adamantly opposed Joseph are now seeking his mercy and grace. This is a beautiful picture of forgiveness and restoration leading to salvation.

A Savior only has eternal value when we allow HIM to redeem or forgive our debt. It is important to remember that Joseph was first the savior of their flesh and now he has opportunity to redeem their soul.

When we seek and or grant forgiveness, we make path for JESUS to save a soul. Repent + Forgive = Salvation.

      Lets GO!

  32. 15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

Forgiveness, Can be a hard word especially when you’ve been mistreated or something real bad was done to you. But without forgiveness we will always carry a yolk on her shoulders until we forgive the person that has harm us we cannot go forward with our lives. Forgiveness is for the person that hurt you and also for yourself God wants us to forgive as he forgave while he hang on the cross.

  33. “And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God? But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive. Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Joseph has an understanding that his life was ordered out by God. He knew that his brothers had evil thought towards him and God took what was meant for evil and turn it for good. I pray that if and when we find ourselves in a similar situation that we would be encouraged know that God will take the evil that others want in our lives and turn it for our good.

    • Joseph also had the upper hand in the end of the situation and had the power to repay all the evil that his brothers did to him. But he showed the signs of a true leader. He did not abuse his power. And this was Proof of true forgiveness. When we truly forgive others we do not desire any evil towards them. We would even go as far as asking God to remove it from the book so that they wouldn’t be judge by God for it.

  34. 19 But Joseph replied, “Don’t be afraid of me. Am I God, that I can punish you? 20 You intended to harm me, but God intended it all for good. He brought me to this position so I could save the lives of many people.

The brothers felt that Joseph wanted revenge for what they did to him. Most people would want revenge. But Joseph, with God, learned how to forgive. He always served God in a good manner at all times. We too, have to learn to forgive others when you were wronged by someone.

  35. 15 And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.

Now without the covering of their father, their previous treatment of Joseph haunted his brethren and they thought surely he would treat them poorly, however Joseph had truly forgiven them, because He saw the hand of God in what had transpired many years ago.

I believe this is the greatest struggle in the mind of people who have walked away from God. 1 – that God will never forgive them, 2 – that their friends will not be the same, and 3 – sometimes because of what they have said when they left, the can’t forgive themselves.

My prayer is that as we start to see an influx of those who have turned their back on the Lord and the Church, that we will have the same forgiving spirit as Joseph. Don’t condemn them, but open our arms of love and show them the true spirit of Jesus – Love, regardless. Give them space to open up their relationship with the Lord, without pushing them, and help them find restoration in all their lost relationships.

  36. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Ever heard of the phrase “everything happens for a reason”? There is truth in that. If Jospeh would have not been sold and sent to Egypt, there are a series of things that would not have happened in order to put Jospeh in the place to save them from the famine. Yes, his brothers meant that for evil, but God used it for good!

This is just proof that our lives are not in the hands of men, but in the hands of God, who overrules all things for His glory. No matter what evil man brings against us, God can use it for good.

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  37. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

22 And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.

Joseph kept his faith and believed in Gods plan even though he didn’t know it step by step but he knew God had complete control.

Ahora, pues, no tengáis miedo; yo os sustentaré a vosotros y a vuestros hijos.

  39. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive

  40. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

Jesus wants us to be nice even when our brothers and sisters and best friends are mean to us.

    Bella

  41. 19 And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21 Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.

    Forgiveness

Many times we think we have forgiven someone, just to find ourselves excluding them, or avoiding them because of some feelings we still have harbored against them. Just a hint, if that is the case, we probably haven’t forgiven them yet.

Jesus told us to forgive, so we could be forgiven. Do you think he harbors I’ll feelings toward us after we ask for forgiveness? So if he doesn’t, why do we?

Maybe we should re-evaluate our thoughts on forgiveness…

  42. 20 But as for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, in order to bring it about as it is this day, to save many people alive. Now Therefore, do not be afraid, I will provide for you and your little ones. And he comforted them and spoke kindly to them. FORGIVNESS IS WHAT JOSEPH HAD FOR HIS BROTHERS, NOT HATE,WHICH HE COULD HAVE EASILY HATED THEM. BUT HE LOVED THEM AND CARED FOR THEM EVEN THOUGH THEY HATED HIM IN THE BEGINNING.

  43. And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.
    Genesis 50:4‭-‬5 KJV

Although Joseph could have guessed Pharaoh would allow him to go bury his father, he still respected Pharoah’s position and authority and came humbly before him.

  44. Joseph’s brothers meant him harm and God turned it fir his good. Joseph’s attitude towards his brothers is a beautiful picture of how we should love. It is in evitable that others will hurt us and sale us out but we do not have to treat them disrespectfully or unkind. We get to chose our attitude towards others because we know that God will not allow anything to harm us and if it comes our way it was for a purpose.

  45. When a word is repeated in Scripture, it is a signal for us to pay attention. In Joseph’s final words to his brothers, he foretells his people’s exodus from Egypt. Twice in two sentences, he says that the LORD will “visit” or “come to” them. (vv. 24, 25). In this context, the word, פָּקַד paqad, literally means to intervene. In verse 24, Joseph emphasizes this by using the infinitive along with the verb: “God will surely visit you.” Because the LORD will surely intervene on behalf of his people, they must keep their hearts set on home – not Egypt, but the Promised Land.

Another word to note is the Hebrew word for coffin, ‘aron (v.26). It is the same word that is used in Deuteronomy 10:5, there translated ‘ark.’ Old Testament scholar Ginzberg says:
Later Jewish tradition did not miss the parallel between Joseph being placed in an ‘aron, and the two tables of the Decalogue also being placed in an ‘aron (Deut 10:5): All this time in the desert Israel carried two shrines with them – the one in the coffin containing the bones of the dead man Joseph, the other Ark containing the covenant of the Living God.

One more thing to pay attention to: Twice, the narrator highlights Joseph’s life span: one hundred and ten years (vv . 22, 26). Bruce Waltke says, “Joseph’s speech of faith is framed by the report of his age at death.” Egyptian culture understood one hundred and ten years to be the perfect life span – a gift given to those who were especially blessed. The narrator wants to be clear that Joseph was indeed a person blessed by God

  46. Even when bad things happen to you and the devil meant for it to be your fall, God can turn it around for your good. Don’t give up because you’ve run into a few roadblocks. Push forward and watch what God can do.

  47. 20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.

Romans 8:28 puts it this way:
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
    ‭‭
All things work together for the good. Perhaps during the process it may not be so clear yet there will be a time of showing. A time of revelation. The key to this verse is, to them that love God, to the called according to His purpose. I believe that Joseph fits perfectly on this category. All the bad, all the hardship, all the trouble and travail, it all work together for the God.

  48. “After burying Jacob, Joseph returned to Egypt with his brothers and all who had accompanied him to his father’s burial. But now that their father was dead, Joseph’s brothers became fearful. “Now Joseph will show his anger and pay us back for all the wrong we did to him,” they said. So they sent this message to Joseph: “Before your father died, he instructed us to say to you: ‘Please forgive your brothers for the great wrong they did to you—for their sin in treating you so cruelly.’ So we, the servants of the God of your father, beg you to forgive our sin.” When Joseph received the message, he broke down and wept.”
    ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭50:14-17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The brothers feared that perhaps Joseph would turn on them after Jacob’s death. Knowing human nature, this was certainly possible.
And may actually repay us for all the evil which we did to him: Here, they freely acknowledged all the evil which they did. What they worried about was justice. They feared righteous retribution. Joseph, with his high status and prestige in Egypt, was certainly capable of bringing this retribution.

Joseph first understood he was not in the place of God. It wasn’t his job to bring retribution upon his brothers. If the LORD chose to punish them, He would have to find an instrument other than Joseph.
From a human perspective, Joseph had the right and the ability to bring retribution upon his brothers, but he knew God was God and he was not. Such retribution was God’s place, not Joseph’s.

Every Christian should be able to see the overarching and overruling hand of God in their life; to know that no matter what evil man brings against us, God can use it for good.
Joseph did not have the text of Romans 8:28, but he had the truth of it: And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. Sadly, many of us who have the text do not have the truth.
Ultimately, our lives are not in the hands of men, but in the hands of God, who overrules all things for His glory.

  49. 18 And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.

GOD IS FAITHFUL!!! GOD had given him this exact dream!!! He stayed humble, he didnt exalt himself, when he could’ve, especially knowing that they needed him, without him they would perish, he could’ve taken advantage of the situation or GOD’S justice he could’ve used to allow them to perish, instead he chose to LOVE!!! What would we do? Would we choose to love, GOD’S will be done or our will be done?
