Numbers 1

And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.

19 As the Lord commanded Moses, so he numbered them in the wilderness of Sinai.

20 And the children of Reuben, Israel’s eldest son, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

21 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Reuben, were forty and six thousand and five hundred.

22 Of the children of Simeon, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, those that were numbered of them, according to the number of the names, by their polls, every male from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

26 Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

30 Of the children of Zebulun, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

31 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Zebulun, were fifty and seven thousand and four hundred.

32 Of the children of Joseph, namely, of the children of Ephraim, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

33 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Ephraim, were forty thousand and five hundred.

34 Of the children of Manasseh, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

35 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Manasseh, were thirty and two thousand and two hundred.

36 Of the children of Benjamin, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

37 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Benjamin, were thirty and five thousand and four hundred.

38 Of the children of Dan, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

39 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Dan, were threescore and two thousand and seven hundred.

40 Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

41 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Asher, were forty and one thousand and five hundred.

42 Of the children of Naphtali, throughout their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

43 Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Naphtali, were fifty and three thousand and four hundred.

44 These are those that were numbered, which Moses and Aaron numbered, and the princes of Israel, being twelve men: each one was for the house of his fathers.

45 So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;

46 Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

47 But the Levites after the tribe of their fathers were not numbered among them.

48 For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying,

49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

53 But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.

54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lordcommanded Moses, so did they.

  1. A census was taken and listed 603,550 men. The descendants of Levi were set apart by God to care for the Tabernacle, as they were the priests and worship leaders.

  2. This chapter is captioned “Census in the Wilderness of Sinai” in the MSG version. We are embarking on “Census in the Unrestricted Revival and Surprise Harvest”. Numbers are important to God and should be to us, as we are part of that count. Our attendance and our participation as part of that count is so very important, as we each have an awesome opportunity to serve in different capacities. The chapter begins with “God spoke to Moses….”; so let’s follow our leader as God speaks to him.

  3. 1 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

    You can’t tell me numbers aren’t important when the children of Israel old enough for battle was counted.
    The fact they kept count of these people in that time was impressive to me I’m sure not a whole lot ya changed how we get our numbers there’s no easier way than counting the names in front of us. What really caught my eye was the Levite’s staying guard for the tabernacle.
    “But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭1:50‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Everyone had a job but this one in particular seemed to have a lot of value to it.

  5. Numbers 1: 53-54 [Amp] But the Levites shall encamp around the tabernacle of the Testimony, that there may be no wrath upon the congregation of the Israelites; and the Levites shall keep charge of the tabernacle of the Testimony.
    [54] Thus did the Israelites according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so they did.
    When we all worked together and pray together and be leaders in our church God does signs , wonders, and miracles. I believe it, I claim it, in Jesus name. Have a bless Day!

  6. 5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.
    6 Of Simeon; Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai.
    7 Of Judah; Nahshon the son of Amminadab.
    8 Of Issachar; Nethaneel the son of Zuar.

    The old testament as well as the new spends most of the time talkong about one or two individuals at a time and the people that followed. It does not give an account what every individual was doing, for obvious reasons. what really sticks out about the book of numbers shows that God, even though he worked through one or two individuals, still took an account for every person. God still has us numbered and still knows us individually. Each person matters.

  7. But the Levites will camp around the Tabernacle of the Covenant to protect the community of Israel from the Lord ’s anger. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.”
    Numbers 1:53 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/num.1.53.NLT

    We are called just as the Levites were to not only be protectors of God’s holiness but also to stand as intercessors between God and man.

  8. 50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

    Everyone had their own job, including the Levite’s responsibility over the tabernacle. Even when you prepare for battle, the tabernacle needs to be cared for, it needs to be intact and in place. Too often it gets set aside to the back burner, but it’s probably the most important piece of “equipment.”

  9. 26Of the children of Judah, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war; 27Those that were numbered of them, even of the tribe of Judah, were threescore and fourteen thousand and six hundred.

    This is amazing to me that out of the tribes, Judah is by far the largest that have the most men of age to go to war. This lets me know when you have praise in your spirit and life, God will bless you abundantly. Not only in number, but in health, wealth, and strength.

    We find that no matter how life deals us trials and tribulations we must have a spirit of praise to be victorious and overcome every obstacle and enemy. We have to lift up the blessed name of the Lord and he stated that he would draw all men unto him. Praise is the answer.

  10. 52. And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

    Men, it is up to us – what standards are we upholding for our households?

    Deuteronomy 6:
    5. And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

    6. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

    7. And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

    8. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes.

    9. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

  11. iLove the King
    This is the vision that God gave Abraham before Isaac was even born. God told
    Abraham that his seed would be like the sand of the sea, like the stars in the heavens… Here we are, fast forward and we see thousands of the Children of Israel assembled in their tribes…

    God’s promises are always true, it just takes time (sometimes) to see the end result. Of course, this is not the end result, because now the Gentiles have been adopted into the family.

  12. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    Falling into place of our testimony keep God number one

    [48] For the Lord had spoken unto Moses, saying,
    49] Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:
    50] But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

    John 1:11-24 KJV
    [11] He came unto his own, and his own received him not. [12] But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: [13] Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. [14] And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. [15] John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me. [16] And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. [17] For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. [18] No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him. [19] And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou? [20] And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ. [21] And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No. [22] Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself? [23] He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. [24] And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

    John 1:47-51 KJV
    [47] Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile! [48] Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee. [49] Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel. [50] Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these. [51] And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.

  13. 53 But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony.

    54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did they.

    Levites protected the holy place & their tabernacle just as we are to protect the holy things of God and our church building and property. We are all responsible it’s cleanliness and to protect it as a holy sanctuary for worship.

  14. Numbers 1
    2 “Take a census of the whole Israelite community by their clans and families, listing every man by name, one by one.

    The Greeter
    When I first cane to POFW there was a little book Pastor encouraged us to read . It was called The Greeter. If I recall it was about remembering how to begin to recognize guests and remembered their names. Some may say why take attendance why get the guests name when they attend a service. Because each person is important. If God had not thought so why would he give instructions to take a census . Numbers names are important. Each family was accounted for. God has promised POFW a great harvest. Just as He promised Abraham that his seed would multiply. From the promise that Abraham would be the father of many nations. Look at the vast numbers from one promise! I think if the families who have come over the past couple of years . Do we take time to know who they are . Are they important to us to get to know them. One by one listing every name one by one. How important is a name. Well we know that answer . He knows my name I know the name of Jesus will I now take time to know the name of someone I’ve passed by daily . They may be waiting just to be counted I. They may be waiting just for someone to call their name .

    Isaiah 43:1&2
    43 But now thus saith the Lord that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

  15. “But the Levites must set up their tents around the holy tent. That’s where the tablets of the covenant law are kept. Then I will not be angry with the community of Israel. The Levites will be responsible for taking care of the tent.””
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭1:53‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    Everyone had a role. And when everyone fulfills that role things run smoothly and are of Gods design. It doesn’t matter how many members were in each family they all knew what the role was and there was no confusion. The plan and the vision was communicated and set out. They may have been many but they were all the children of Israel.

  16. FIRST THE KINGDOM
    PEOPLE MATTER TO GOD

    2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;
    3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.
    4 And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

    People often wonder why we at The POFW place such emphasis on attendance to each event. In this chapter we find the foundation for the biblical principal of attendance. I believe GOD initiated this principal for the purpose of demonstrating the value HE places on each family and person. Ultimately revealing the value GOD places on people.

    When we speak of church growth, I pray that it is not simply some boring numbers or yet a boast of our efforts. I pray that we can rejoice in the fact that GOD is pleased with the accountability and value we place on the people that HE draws to HIS Kingdom.

    As our LORD JESUS continues to add to HIS Kingdom through the Ministry of The POFW, my prayer is that we will rejoice over what HE is saying and doing through us. Trusting us with HIS greatest asset. PEOPLE.

    The SUM of the congregation and the NUMBER of their names, identified by family.

    Let us not forget to purposefully consider each person as a valued soul to the KING of Kings.

    54 And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lordcommanded Moses, so did they.

    God counts things. He counts the stars and has a name for each one (Psalm 147:4; Isaiah 40:26). God even counts and knows the number of hairs on your head! (Matthew 10:30)

  18. Numbers 1:50 – 54
    But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle. And the Lord spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, Every man of the children of Israel shall pitch by his own standard, with the ensign of their father’s house: far off about the tabernacle of the congregation standard, throughout their hosts. But the Levites shall pitch round about the tabernacle of testimony, that there be no wrath upon the congregation of the children of Israel: and the Levites shall keep the charge of the tabernacle of testimony. And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did they.

    The Levites, descendants of Jacob’s son Levi, were selected to serve God in the Holy Temple. Most served in peripheral roles, playing music, opening and closing the gates, and standing guard. In the case of the portable Tabernacle (which preceded the Holy Temple in Jerusalem), they were responsible for packing up, transporting, and reconstructing the Tabernacle whenever the Israelites traveled to a new camp. The most sacred tasks, including bringing the sacrifices, were reserved for the priests, descendants of Aaron, brother of Moses.

    Originally, the firstborn sons were to have been the priests. When G‑d spared the Jewish firstborns in Egypt, He “acquired” them and designated them for this special role.

    When the Jewish people made and worshipped a golden calf after the giving of the Torah on Mount Sinai, the only tribe that did not participate was Levi. At this time, the firstborns lost their special status, and it was transferred to the Levites.

    What a responsibility that was placed upon the Levites… God has called all of us to be keepers of the Holy Place, which is not just a building but that lives in us from the day we are born again. Not only do we take on the Name of Jesus but our DNA is changed. That is why it’s so important for us to keep our flesh under control and keep our temples Holy and exceptable unto the Lord

    In truth, however, the Levites were special from beforehand. Even during the Egyptian bondage, they were exempt from the crushing labor and permitted to devote themselves to spiritual pursuits, providing the rest of the Israelites with much needed encouragement and a strong moral compass.

  21. 3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

    A lot of people don’t like the fact that our males need to register for the armed forces at the age of 18.at least is not mandatory to join like in other countries where ALL males must serve the army for 3 years before the age of 35. We just have them register. The only thing I don’t like is the age 18. Because of our history of establishing a draft that was used for Vietnam, 18 is too young to send someone to war. I think that’s why the casualty count of Vietnam is so high. The average age of a USA soldier is 19. I join when I was 19. Had many deployments but one war. The shortest war Desert Storm. I wish they would follow the word of God and establish a new age of 20. You might not think is important but a lot of growing and maturing happens on those 2 years. I have seen it first hand as a leader in the military. They need our prayers and support. Afghanistan still going, our children still dying, and they’re still coming home with skeletons in their closet that hunts them. We have a high mortality rate by suicide when they come home. Their young minds can’t wrap around what happened to them. They need our prayers, they need our love, THEY NEED JESUS!!!!

  22. 50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

    The Leviticus tribe was designated by God to care for the tabernacle; set it up, take it up, ensure everything inside was prepared and ready for use .

    We should take pride in the tabernacle the Lord has blessed us with. We should care for it and the preparation of it daily. It is where people come to find Jesus and where Jesus comes in all His glory to receive the praise that as a corporate body we bestow upon Him. We should never take His Sanctuary for granted

  23. 48 The Lord had said to Moses: 49 “You must not count the tribe of Levi or include them in the census of the other Israelites. 50 Instead, appoint the Levites to be in charge of the tabernacle of the covenant law—over all its furnishings and everything belonging to it. They are to carry the tabernacle and all its furnishings; they are to take care of it and encamp around it.

    Delegation. It can be just as hard for the leaders as it is for the follower. The Leader has to practice trust in faith in another individual to complete a task in the same manner they desire, and the follower has to practice submission and obedience to complete such task.

    Yet, as hard as it may be, it’s just as powerful. Its a beautiful demonstration of pure unity. Working together to complete the mission.

    1 Corinthians 1:10 “Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.”

  24. Numbers 1:54

    We must do according to all that the Lord commanded Pastor, so we will.

    And we will see surprised Harvest which mg family will be in, Jesus Name!

  25. 40 Of the children of Asher, by their generations, after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war;

  26. 1:49 only thou shall not numbered the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel.
    ——
    Why?

  27. Numbers 1:2-3 (VOICE)
    2) Add up exactly how many Israelites there are, but don’t merely count them. Identify all the people by their clans and families, right down to the individual name of every male.
    3) Furthermore, those who are 20 years old and older shall be considered potential soldiers. Aaron can help you organize them into groups and record them as armies.

    “Potential Soldiers”
    These verses reminded me of 2 Timothy:3-4, “3) Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good SOLDIER of Jesus Christ. 4) No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a SOLDIER.”

    God has chosen us to be His SOLDIERS.
    Remember: We are fighting a spiritual warfare.
    Eph.6:11-12, “11) Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12) For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalites, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spritual wickedness in high places.”

    As the old Sunday School song says…
    I’m in the LORD’s Army, YES SIR
    I’m in the LORD’s Army, YES SIR

  28. “Put the Levites in charge of the Tabernacle of the Covenant, along with all its furnishings and equipment. They must carry the Tabernacle and all its furnishings as you travel, and they must take care of it and camp around it. Whenever it is time for the Tabernacle to move, the Levites will take it down. And when it is time to stop, they will set it up again. But any unauthorized person who goes too near the Tabernacle must be put to death. Each tribe of Israel will camp in a designated area with its own family banner. But the Levites will camp around the Tabernacle of the Covenant to protect the community of Israel from the Lord’s anger. The Levites are responsible to stand guard around the Tabernacle.” So the Israelites did everything just as the Lord had commanded Moses.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭1:50-54‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    The people were accounted for, there was a process in place and everyone had a job.

    Proof that running things with systems and efficiency is important to God as well.

  29. Swt apart

    The tribe of Levi was set apart from the rest of the tribes. When God sets us apart from others, ot could be because he has a specific purpose for your life. Where there is purpose, in most cases there is clarity of what you are to do. When we seek after God, He will set us apart.

    Seek ye first the Kingdom of God

  30. 50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

    In these passages of scripture as God instructed Moses as to the Levites essentially keeping charge of the Tabernacle of testimony and over all the vessels thereof, and over all the elements that pertained thereof. They were to minister unto it, maintain it and guard it. What a charge, what a privileged people.

    I would assume that in our modern day application it would be to watch and take care of the house of God. I’ve always viewed the house of God as a place where his glory rest and abides. A dwelling place of where the prayer of the saints are dwelling. I also believe that it is a place where many prayers of the elder saints reside, I still believe the prayers of the saints never parish.

    It’s a Holy place – and I do concur it ought to be respected and kept with diligent care. But a little more then this, I also believe that as fellow brethren in this walk with God we ought to also watch and care for each other as we are the church. I am nobody, but God is everything, I hope that this vessel can be a refection of him and I can help somebody around me. It’s a joy to walk into a place where there is Joy and happiness, a friendly place. But most importantly where Joy unspeakable and full of glory can be felt.

  31. Numbers 1 – The Census of Israel
    A. Background to the Book of Numbers.

    1. As recorded in the Book of Exodus, Israel escaped slavery in Egypt – God miraculously set them free from hundreds of years of bondage. They came through the Red Sea and saw God provide through the desert wilderness. They came to Mount Sinai where God appeared to them in a spectacular way; where Moses went up on the mountain to meet with God and receive the law. At Mount Sinai Israel also embraced an idolatrous image of a golden calf and was corrected by the LORD.

    a. Encamped at Mount Sinai, Israel built a tabernacle of meeting and established a priesthood, receiving God’s plan for the priests and the nation at large in Leviticus. At the end of the Book of Leviticus, they have been out of Egypt for a little more than a year.

    b. Exodus covered a year; Leviticus only a month – but the Book of Numbers encompasses more than 38 years.

    2. This third book of Moses tells us what happened during those 38 years. The Hebrew title of this book gives us an idea of the theme of Numbers. In Hebrew this book is titled In the Wilderness instead of Number

  32. So many people were sent for war, anynody twenty and upward. However there were many that stayed to guard the tabernacle, and had strict rules from Moses that came from the Lord. Both positions were definitely serious and no time for games, guarding the tabernacle means to guard it and not let anything pass you. Just like us we need to stand ground because God has given us the victory and nothing should be able to discourage us.

  33. 51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

    God will protect those that take care of his church. The Levites set up the tabernacle and take it down and if a stranger comes nigh they will be put to death. God will protect those that take care of His things.

    52 And the children of Israel shall pitch their tents, every man by his own camp, and every man by his own standard, throughout their hosts.

    But also taking care of the church comes with other great responsibilities that sometimes mean you are doing it by yourself.

  34. 5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.

    Jesus selected the men that Moses was to select to lead each of the tribes of Israel.

    Jesus has told Pastor who he is to have leading. We would be very wise to listen to these people that Jesus has places in authority over us.

  35. And the children of Israel did according to all that the Lord commanded Moses, so did they.
    Numbers 1:54 KJV

    They did according to all that the Lord had commanded Moses. They were obedient to the commands of the Lord that were given by the mouth and word of the man of God. They trusted that he heard from and did that which God commanded. Yet in today’s time, people hardly want to respond to the man of God encouraging to praise God. Or when something is being preached the response and reaction is slim…

  36. 50 But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle.

    51 And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.

    The name Levi means joined or attached, I also saw it dubbed as joined in harmony. The Levites were appointed to set up, take down, and transport the tabernacle. I think its only appropriate that they be of one accord or joined together.

  37. They were getting the army ready and organized for war.
    Made me think the army of the Lord needs to be ready! We as a whole, the church, we need to be prepated to fight.

  38. 49 Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel:

    Throughout the word of God there are some absolutes. Things that are set by God and should not and will not change The position and responsibility of the Levite’s will not change yet the people had the ability to pitch their tents wherever and how ever they desire. Let us not blur lines but stay with true absolutes.

  39. 2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

    Even though I haven’t read pastors comment, I can almost guess what it was about.

    Numbers! Something he’s very good at and something very important to a church.

    “How can you know we’re you’re going if you don’t know where you’ve been”

    I recently asked a old pastor friend of mine, what’s your average attendance?

    I drew a blank stare! He didn’t know, and what was more shocking Is he didn’t seem to care. I’m sure he cares for this sheep, but he doesn’t seem interested in growing.

    Accountability – responsibility or answerability. Or basically having the ability to give an account.

    I thinks God for a leader that has this ability.

  40. 16 These were the renowned of the congregation, princes of the tribes of their fathers, heads of thousands in Israel.

    17 And Moses and Aaron took these men which are expressed by their names:

    18 And they assembled all the congregation together on the first day of the second month, and they declared their pedigrees after their families, by the house of their fathers, according to the number of the names, from twenty years old and upward, by their polls.

  41. Working in child care you learn to always know how many children you have with you at any given time of the day…literally without thought. You should be able to share how many children are in your care at all times while on the clock. Moses was responsible for the multitudes of people he was leading. Just as we should know how many followers are with you at all times I have to make sure you aren’ allowed to leave one of the find you a babe in Christ, nurse them, feed them, always know where they are, so you can properly give an account for them.

  42. Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls; From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies. Only thou shalt not number the tribe of Levi, neither take the sum of them among the children of Israel: But thou shalt appoint the Levites over the tabernacle of testimony, and over all the vessels thereof, and over all things that belong to it: they shall bear the tabernacle, and all the vessels thereof; and they shall minister unto it, and shall encamp round about the tabernacle. And when the tabernacle setteth forward, the Levites shall take it down: and when the tabernacle is to be pitched, the Levites shall set it up: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death.
    Numbers 1:2‭-‬3‭, ‬49‭-‬51 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/num.1.2-51.KJV

    There is a reason God wants things the way he does, if everyone was at war, who would keep the tabernacle, God has appointed men too fight and and men to keep the house of God, everyone has a Job to do in the Kingdom.

    First the Kingdom

  43. 5 And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of the tribe of Reuben; Elizur the son of Shedeur.

    Names written down!!! Oh YES!!!
    My name is written down oh Yes!!! What about our family? Is their name written down, what about our neighbors name? Is their name written down?

  44. 2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

    3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

    4 And with you there shall be a man of every tribe; every one head of the house of his fathers.

  45. Numbers 1

    1 And the Lord spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,

    2 Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;

    3 From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

  46. God likes things to be in order. He gives authority to the Levite’s to be the only ones to set up and move the tabernacle.

    It’s important that we respect authority because disobedience will cost us greatly.

  47. 2“From the whole community of Israel, record the names of all the warriors by their clans and families. List all the men 3 twenty years old or older who are able to go to war. You and Aaron must register the troops,

    Imagine that, the military draft taken place back in the day. Like any war, young and strong men are needed to fight a war for endurance. But rejoice, anyone and any age can be in the Lord’s army. Everyone is needed to reach the lost.

  48. The Book of Numbers is all about God’s people in the wilderness how they get there, how God deals with them in the wilderness, and how He brings them out of the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land.

    The Hebrew word for wilderness (midbar) means a place for driving flocks. It is not a completely arid desert, but contains little vegetation and a few trees. The rainfall in such areas is too light, a few inches per year, to support cultivation. The wilderness was never meant to be Israel’s destination. God’s intention was to bring them into the Promised Land of Canaan. The wilderness was intended as a temporary place – a place to move through, not to live in.

    The Book of Numbers gives us a big vision: Where is God taking us? What will it take to get there? What inward qualities must God develop in us and demand in us along the way?

    When we are in the wilderness, we are tempted to launch a hundred different schemes and plans to escape. But only God’s way really works!!!
