Numbers 25

And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lordwas kindled against Israel.

And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.

10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

16 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:

18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.

  1. While the Israelites are staying in Moab, they start getting down and dirty with the foreign ladies that live there.
Sure, maybe inviting some lovely Moabite women into your bed isn’t a big deal—but deciding to worship their god, Baal, is. God is not amused.
God tells Moses that he needs to impale all the chiefs of Israel. That way he can stop being so angry with everyone. Whoa. God doesn’t mess around.
But instead, Moses tells the Israelite judges to kill anyone who’s worshipping Baal. This is slightly different than what God said.
Meanwhile, one of the Israelite men marries a Midianite woman. Moses totally sees what’s going down, but he doesn’t really do anything about it. Maybe that’s because he was also married to a Midianite lady.
But Eleazar’s son, Phinehas, see this and runs to grab his spear. He rushes into the man’s tent and stabs the guy and his wife. Right through the stomach. That’s gotta hurt. A lot.
Apparently, this makes God happy again, so he stops the plague that he has been pouring down on the people. (About 24,000 died anyway, so it was kind of a big deal.)
God tells Moses that Phinehas did the right thing by murdering that dude and his wife. That kid is a real go-getter. God’s gonna have his eye out for him in the future.
God also tells Moses that they should keep giving trouble to the Midianites because of all the trouble they’ve given Israel over the years. Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. Indeed.

Due to the zealousness of one man a plague was stopped in the land of Israel. Because someone hated something God hated and was just as passionate, it brought peace to an entire land. zealousness for the things of God is off and reflection of the relationship with God. The closer we get to our gone the more we are going to want the things that he wants and hate the things he hates. If we are truly made in his image then that should be every Christian goal, to be in his likeness

  4. 8. And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.

Sometimes it takes a little violence to gain your peace…the Kingdom of Heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force.

  5. We have a just and faithful God. He takes care of his people. From the beginning living in sin does not work. There are consequences for your actions. I go with God, it’s the best.

  6. The people ate the sacrificial meal and bowed down before these gods. 3 So Israel yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor. And the Lord’s anger burned against them.

When oxen are unequally yoked, they cannot perform the task set before them. …
I read that the oxen will go in circles and not accomplish the task set before them . My mind went to a book Love and Respect. It has within it a chapter called The Crazy Cycle. This book is a tool used to help couples learn what true love and respect is for one another. I fam bd that when couples either have had premarital sex or they have married someone of different faith they step right into this cycle much quicker some never accomplish the real reason for marriage to complement one another and as Christians to do the will of God . The Israelites stepped into sin by going after women that were not of their own beliefs. The were seduced to commit sexual sins that alone should have put a big red flag up. Yet they were giving in to the desires of their flesh . You say well it won’t hurt just to be a friend . The pull was not in friendship but the stronghold was they began to participate in worship of a false god. The word says they yoked themselves to Baal . Now I think about a man named Samson who did the same thing. We know when he laid himself into the lap of a woman not of faith he lost his strength eventually.
Back to the oxen I mentioned earlier. Unequally yoked one going one way the other another . One commitment to God the other to the world …what a vicious cycle. Only by the grace of God and miraculous intervention. Yet this couple in these scriptures were actually killed for their sin. There is always a great cost for disobedience a crazy cycle that only God can break . True commitment to God is not going out into the world looking for some one.
I find it a sad fad or trend of our present world even young and old adults seeking for companionship in the world . They are frantically searching and getting to close to idolatry chat rooms Instagram Facebook dating sites . Hold to your integrity. Trust God! Don’t go seeking pleasure emotional ties emotional fulfillment from the Moabite women and “men”.
Don’t become yoked with the sins of this world . Wait Wait upon God . Live Jesus Give Jesus , Spiritual death is worst than a natural death . Yoke bind yourself to God not to the things of this world.
Don’t lose your soul because of lust ! Replace the fire of the flesh with the fire of the Holy Ghost . Guard yourself surround yourself with those with a love for God . Keep your eyes turned upon Jesus and the things of this world truly will grow dim …..

2 Corinthians 6:14 Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?

    Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Simple fact/truth: follow the commandments and instructions of God to the fullest. Living for God doesn’t have to be difficult, it is your perspective and your desire to live for Him… And sometimes that means removing obstacles that would hinder your service to the Kingdom.

  8. 2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.
    Exodus 20:5
    5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;

  9. 10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

We have the greatest commandment of all to love the Lord thy God with all our hear mind and soul. We have to look not to this world but to God for our needs. We have to allow the presence of God move us to the place where he wants us to be. We have to have passion and zeal to move the kingdom forward. In the chapter this morning it took one man’s zealousness to avert the anger of God. We find that even though 24000 Israelites were slain for their perverseness and whoredom, the rest of the people were able to be saved because of one.

I find that when you have 1 person with passion and zeal, they are far more valuable than 99 with a cause. They will be obedient to the word of God and they will heed the words of the shepherd. We have to become passionate for the things of God and know that the things of this world will not save us. For our home in not this world, for we are just a passing through. Our treasures are laid up somewhere beyond the blue.

We have live Jesus to give Jesus in this hour that we are in. The harvest is ready but the laborers are few. Who will join in the harvest.

  10. Verses 1-2 NLT “While the Israelites were camped at Acacia Grove,[a] some of the men defiled themselves by having[b] sexual relations with local Moabite women. These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab.” We must heed the warnings that some of the Israelite men missed here. It started easily enough with just an invite (a word, a note, a text, a look, a snapchat, a selfie); but, they didn’t recognize the enemy because it didn’t resemble or look like anything harmful. These men were seduced into worshiping their gods and defiled themselves. Do not be lead down the wrong path; but, stay focused on God and His commandments.

  11. ““Phinehas the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, has turned my wrath away from the Israelites because he was jealous with My jealousy among them, so that I did not destroy the Israelites in My jealousy. Therefore say, ‘Behold, I give to Phinehas My covenant of peace. And it shall be for him and his descendants after him, a covenant of an everlasting priesthood, because he was jealous (impassioned) for [the unique honor and respect owed to] his God and made atonement for the sons of Israel.’ ””
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭25:11-13‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Lord, I desire to not only love the things that you love but also to hate the things that you hate. Allow me to see and feel with your passion. And that You would always guide me for all my day’s.

  12. Numbers 25:17-18 (AMP)
    17) Provoke hostilities with the Midianites and attack them,
    18) For they harass you with their tricks, the tricks with which they have deceived you in the matter (of the Baal) of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of the leader of Midian, their sister, who was killed on the day of the plague, because (of the Baal) of Peor.

These scriptures made me think of Ephesians 6:11 (AMP), “Put on the full armor of God (for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier), so that you may be able to (successfully) stand against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.”

The Midianites harassed the Israelites with tricks that caused them to be deceived. The devil wants to do the same thing to us. He wants to harass us with his tricks, his schemes, and his strategies to cause us to be deceived. This is why it is sooooo important for us to PUT ON and KEEP ON the full (whole) ARMOR of GOD. Putting on the full (whole) ARMOR of GOD – loins gird about with TRUTH, having on the breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS, your feet shod with the preparation of the GOSPEL of PEACE, taking the shield of FAITH, take the helmet of SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the WORD of GOD – will help us to (successfully) stand against the tricks, schemes and strategies and the deceits of the devil.

The Full (whole) ARMOR of GOD
PUT IT ON and KEEP IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  13. 3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lordwas kindled against Israel.

You must be careful who you connect yourself to. Joining with the wrong person can cause division between you and God. Everyone who claims to be your friend are not there for your good. When follow after Jesus, he will lead you in the right direction and connect you with people who will help elevate you.

  14. 1 And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab.

2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lordwas kindled against Israel.

4 And the Lord said unto Moses, Take all the heads of the people, and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto Baalpeor.

Idolatry – extreme admiration, love, or reverence for something or someone.

How many things or people in your life have become your idols according to this definition. Is so easy that we don’t even realize what are we placing in priority over our God.
Deut 6:4. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: Mark 12:29 Jesus answered him, “The first of all the commandments is: ‘Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God, the LORD is one. 30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:
It is time to make JESUS our #1 priority, nothing else should come first. Our first love should always be Him. Thank you Jesus for loving me so!!!

  15. 2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

3 And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lordwas kindled against Israel.

The last verse in this chapter says they were beguiled- tricked or seduced. It was still sin. God had already taught his people that he was a jealous God and they were to be separate unto him, but they operated in the flesh, not the spirit or by faith. If we dont know Gods word and operate by faith not sight, we can be seduced with the ways of this world.

  16. 11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

We don’t have the power to stop God’s hand but we do have the power to turn God’s people. If we are zealous for the lord and we share it we will be givin peace in knowing that we saved souls.

  17. Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest has turned my anger away from the Israelites by being as zealous among them as I was. So I stopped destroying all Israel as I had intended to do in my zealous anger. Now tell him that I am making my special covenant of peace with him. In this covenant, I give him and his descendants a permanent right to the priesthood, for in his zeal for me, his God, he purified the people of Israel, making them right with me.
    Numbers 25:11‭-‬13 NLT

Phinehas was zealous for God and he was committed to keeping the things of God pure. He protected what God loved, His people. He hated and destroyed what God hated. Lord, we want to live zealously for You – let us see what You see, love as You love, and hate the appearance of evil I order to protect Your Kingdom and Your people.

  18. 2 And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods.

This is a reminder that our God is a jealous God. That there’s is serious consequences when one angers the Lord by bowing down to other gods and giving our worship to a false god.
2.“I am the Lord your God, who rescued you from the land of Egypt, the place of your slavery. 3. “You must not have any other god but me. Exodus 20: 2-3
The consequences are not only brought unto yourself but to the third and fourth generation. We must stay firm on Jesus and draw ourselves out of the earthly temptations that can cause us our salvation and our generations. Instead let us be that Aaron, that because he was zealous, God wrath against Israel was turned away!

  19. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
THE ARROGANCE OF SIN AND HOW TO DEAL WITH IT

6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
    7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;
8 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly. So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel.
9 And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.

At risk of my words being understood, I will clarify in the beginning that we are dealing with the sin not the sinner. Dealing with sin liberates the sinner. Lets first identify THE ARROGNACE OF SIN.

While GOD is speaking through Moses in regard to the sexual sins of Israel, they had lust after the forbidden woman of their time and committed fornication with them. One of the men in the clinches of lust, arrogantly brought his sin before all the others and Moses while GOD was considering how HE would judge their sin. This is lust of the flesh as we would identify it. We witness the arrogance of sin in this chapter just as we see sinners prance their sin in our presence in our generation. It is nothing new.

    BUT

    7 And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

Someone did something about it. Phinehas confronted the sin with authority. Now, again I do not advocate killing people, only confronting sin with the SWORD of the SPIRIT, the WORD of GOD.

This is why when I am preaching or teaching the WORD of GOD and the spirit that GOD has called out through HIS WORD, begins to arrogantly rise up in the congregation, I confront it immediately. Some have accused me of embarrassing people, BUT I am really making great effort to deliver the people.

We must rise with the WORD of GOD and thrust or speak the WORD of GOD directly to the sin and thereby bringing deliverance and the GRACE and MERCY of GOD on others.

LIVE the WORD of GOD so we can GIVE the WORD of GOD.

    Numbers 25:1-18

The following is from a Bible Commentary I read. Something happens here that is unseen in this portion of scripture. What we don’t see is what Balaam did behind the scenes. Reading the verses before we got to today’s scriptures make us assume Balaam only blessed the people of God. That is not the whole story. Read the following commentary to get a better understanding of the behind the scenes treachery of Balaam.

THE ZEAL OF PHINEHAS AGAINST IMPURITY

Unable to curse Israel directly, Balaam suggested to Balak the device of destroying the union between Israel and their divine Protector by enticing them into sin. Once bring license and passion into play, and let the seductions of evil prevail, and surely the holiness of God would compel Him to withdraw His protection! This was a diabolical suggestion to gain his wage. See Rev 2:14 “But I have a few things against thee, because thou hast there them that hold the doctrine of Balaam, who taught Balac to cast a stumblingblock before the children of Israel, to eat things sacrificed unto idols, and to commit fornication.”

The women of the land, notorious for their wantonness, seduced the men of Israel to join in the sensual rites of their worship. All did not fall into this sin. See Deu 4:3-4. But it brought terrible chastisement on the offenders, 1Co 10:8. You must amputate a gangrened limb.

For Phinehas, see Mal 2:4, etc. Let us come out of the world, cleansing ourselves from its filthiness! 2Co 6:14, etc. There are crises when love for God’s honor demands strenuous action, which never fails, as in the case of Phinehas, of an abounding recognition, Num 25:12.

    • Balaam would later pay for this sin with his life.

Here is the sin of Balaam

Num 31:16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.

      Here is Balaam’s Judgement

Num 31:8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

  23. “When Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest saw this, he jumped up and left the assembly. He took a spear and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped,”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭25:7-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    I like this attitude!
Ye sits heartbreaking to see the people of Israel doing something stupid. God loves his people though, because he loves them he wants to eliminate sin. We need a Phineas today in the Lord. We need someone that’s going to be zealous for Iesus and call out sin where it stands and begin to speak the Word of God with Authority. We need a phineas that’s going to take charge in the Holy Ghost.

  24. Numbers 25: 12-13 [Amp] Therefore , Behold, I give to Phinehas the priest My Covenant of Peace.
[13] And He shall have it, and his descendants after him, the covenant of the an everlasting priesthood, Because he was jealous for his God and made atonement for the Israelites.
The Bible that we have a very jealous God ! We are in War, Put on the Whole Armour of God! Go in to War room and pray for delieverance for others .

  25. a chief house in Midian.

Here I see where temptation takes over people without warning. The devil wants to kill , steal and destroy everyone that allows sin enter their mind heart and soul. The sinful choices that looks and feels good is death in the eyes of God. Protect ourselves from the enemies voice that leads to deception and death. The consequences hurts you and family. Seek God first don’t allow life circumstances that your battling consume by seeking easy way out with evil disguised in flesh this damage will cost you dearly imagine loss of family and all those who love you traded by sin. God almighty deliver souls from the giants that attract good but are evil. Let the mind of the individual see truth and seek you no matter the situation God is the truth and the way. God sees and can change lives he’s a merciful God he has the power to turn your life around.

  26. 6 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
17 Vex the Midianites, and smite them:
18 For they vex you with their wiles, wherewith they have beguiled you in the matter of Peor, and in the matter of Cozbi, the daughter of a prince of Midian, their sister, which was slain in the day of the plague for Peor’s sake.

The Lord went straight to the root of the problem sort of. He told Moses to smite the people that the Israelites were whirling after. However, the real problem was the hearts of the Israelites. It starts with a thought and then takes root on the heart and is carried out.

We must keep our mind and heart fixed on Jesus.

  27. and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped,
    Numbers 25:8 NLT

When there is sin in the camp you have to be aggressive about removing it. People’s spiritual lives are at stake!!

    Phineas saw an opportunity and

  28. “Just then one of the Israelite men brought a Midianite woman into his tent, right before the eyes of Moses and all the people, as everyone was weeping at the entrance of the Tabernacle. When Phinehas son of Eleazar and grandson of Aaron the priest saw this, he jumped up and left the assembly. He took a spear and rushed after the man into his tent. Phinehas thrust the spear all the way through the man’s body and into the woman’s stomach. So the plague against the Israelites was stopped, but not before 24,000 people had died.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭25:6-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  29. By going against God, 24,000 people died. We must trust and do what God wants. He is in charge. We don’t ever want the wrath of God on us.

  30. 5 And Moses said unto the judges of Israel, Slay ye every one his men that were joined unto
6 And, behold, one of the children of Israel came and brought unto his brethren a Midianitish woman in the sight of Moses, and in the sight of all the congregation of the children of Israel, who were weeping before the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

One of the hardest things for a true leader is to have to kill one of their people. These leaders were likely going to have to kill their own family.

  31. 10 And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
11 Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous for my sake among them, that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:
13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.

Because he was zealous with My zeal among them, so that I did not consume the children of Israel in My zeal…..
It wasn’t only Phinehas’ obedience God noticed. He was also noticed because he was zealous with God’s zeal. Phinehas was passionate about the things God was passionate about and in this respect, he was a man after God’s own heart. Perfect example of how we also should be, Lord give us the courage to stand up for YOU when no one else will.

  32. This passage reminds us that we have to sometimes take even drastic measures to cut sin out of our lives. If something is killing you spiritually, you cannot play games with it, you have to kill it quickly. We have to stand up boldly and take charge.

  33. So Moses said to Israel’s judges, “Each of you must put to death those of your people who have yoked themselves to the Baal of Peor.”

There was no room for sin to be in the midst of them. God had to take care of that sin, He knew what was the cause and needed to be removed. We need to guard our heart that no thought would hinder our heart into growing cold, bitter, or a stone. But a heart of love, purity, joy, peace. Daily guard your heart and whatever you need, you know you can count on Him. In Jesus Name!

  34. “And Israel abode in Shittim, and the people began to commit whoredom with the daughters of Moab. And they called the people unto the sacrifices of their gods: and the people did eat, and bowed down to their gods. And Israel joined himself unto Baal–peor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭25:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God is a jealous God. Ethics goes against so many rules, commandments, and scriptures. We are not to serve false gods or earth there.

  35. And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

  36. And when Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, saw it, he rose up from among the congregation, and took a javelin in his hand;

12 Wherefore say, Behold, I give unto him my covenant of peace:

Are we willing to stand up for the Lord and his righteousness? Are we willing to cut out the falls and call out the lies? In the last days deception will grow and confuse many. But it is our duty to fill our hearts, minds and souls with Jesus, with his word and stand up for truth.

  37. 13 And he shall have it, and his seed after him, even the covenant of an everlasting priesthood; because he was zealous for his God, and made an atonement for the children of Israel.
14 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.

It is amazing how one person can change the mind of God for a multitude of people. Your actions not only affect you but those around you as well. Last week we read about Korah and his actions, again this showed how this not only affected him but also those around him. Depending on your action will determines whether you are spared/pardoned or if you are swallowed up by the world.

  38. Numbers 26
At this point the adults who left Egypt have died and been replaced by their grown children. Despite these deaths , the Israelites were as numerous as before. This generation learned from their parents failure. God remains faithful to his promises. He said the entire generation of those who unwilling to obey God died out, the Israelites were forced to wander in the wilderness.

  39. Wow what a chapter!

    Two things catch my attention

    1. The women went to the temple to cry. You would think this would be the proper thing to do in this situation but the command to kill those that defiled the ways of God came from God. When God has a kill order out it is not ok to play the role of pitty in the temple. Woah is me is not the way to go but repentance and acceptance of wrong. Instead of bringing awareness and attention to God she became a distraction and the man of God recognized it.

4 Now the name of the Israelite that was slain, even that was slain with the Midianitish woman, was Zimri, the son of Salu, a prince of a chief house among the Simeonites.
15 And the name of the Midianitish woman that was slain was Cozbi, the daughter of Zur; he was head over a people, and of a chief house in Midian.

    2. Both Cozbi and Zimri lived in homes of position and authority. Oh No! Just because you may hold a position doesn’t mean your always going to be right. There are plenty of examples in the word of God that support this but it does mean that God sometimes have to deal with us harshly and quickly in a effort to save the masses from repeating the action. ”To whom much is given much is required.“ If your a leader you must keep this in the front of your minds and train your children to do the same.

My childhood and my children’s childhood are night and day but I pray they never forget the foundation that is being set for them and. That obedience to God is first priority.

  40. 2These women invited them to attend sacrifices to their gods, so the Israelites feasted with them and worshiped the gods of Moab. 3In this way, Israel joined in the worship of Baal of Peor, causing the LORD’s anger to blaze against his people.

The men and women were easily swayed by their carnal desires. They let their flesh overcome their spiritual side. One could ask, were they really wanting a relationship with God? Deep root yourself with God’s Word, so you won’t be easily influenced by the things of this world.
