Numbers 31

1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

2Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

3And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.

4Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

5So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
7And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lordcommanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
8And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
10And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
11And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
12And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.
13And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
14And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

15And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
16Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.
17Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

18But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.
19And do ye abide without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify both yourselves and your captives on the third day, and on the seventh day.
20And purify all your raiment, and all that is made of skins, and all work of goats’ hair, and all things made of wood.

21And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lordcommanded Moses;
22Only the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,
23Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
24And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.
25And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
26Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the chief fathers of the congregation:

27And divide the prey into two parts; between them that took the war upon them, who went out to battle, and between all the congregation:
28And levy a tribute unto the Lord of the men of war which went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, both of the persons, and of the beeves, and of the asses, and of the sheep:
29Take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for an heave offering of the Lord.
30And of the children of Israel’s half, thou shalt take one portion of fifty, of the persons, of the beeves, of the asses, and of the flocks, of all manner of beasts, and give them unto the Levites, which keep the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord.

31And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lordcommanded Moses.
32And the booty, being the rest of the prey which the men of war had caught, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,
33And threescore and twelve thousand beeves,
34And threescore and one thousand asses,
35And thirty and two thousand persons in all, of women that had not known man by lying with him.
36And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and seven and thirty thousand and five hundred sheep:
37And the Lord’s tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.
38And the beeves were thirty and six thousand; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and twelve.
39And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which the Lord’s tribute was threescore and one.
40And the persons were sixteen thousand; of which the Lord’stribute was thirty and two persons.
41And Moses gave the tribute, which was the Lord’s heave offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as the Lord commanded Moses.
42And of the children of Israel’s half, which Moses divided from the men that warred,
43(Now the half that pertained unto the congregation was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep,
44And thirty and six thousand beeves,
45And thirty thousand asses and five hundred,
46And sixteen thousand persons;)
47Even of the children of Israel’s half, Moses took one portion of fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, which kept the charge of the tabernacle of the Lord; as the Lordcommanded Moses.
48And the officers which were over thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses:
49And they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war which are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

50We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.

51And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.
52And all the gold of the offering that they offered up to the Lord, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

53(For the men of war had taken spoil, every man for himself.)
54And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tabernacle of the congregation, for a memorial for the children of Israel before the Lord.

Sometimes we just need something to be a reminder of what was and what God brought us from. It’s not enough to just leave but it’s important o have a reminder of the why and why you should never go back.

  2. 1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

25And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

Clean, purified, water, clean, purified, water…
    Got any questions.

    Numbers 31:14‭-‬16 KJV

For some many people will commit and go back to the same sins that can spiritually kill us!!! When we repented the LORD forgave, when we were baptized in His name we were resurrected to life, and filled with rivers of living water. So why are many enticed by what almost killed them? Let us not forget the saviour of our lives. Remember where He brought you from.

Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
    Ephesians 2:3 – 5

  4. Verse 54 NLT “So Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gifts from the generals and captains and brought the gold to the Tabernacle[d] as a reminder to the Lord that the people of Israel belong to him.” Memorial: something, especially a structure, established to remind people of a person or event. Even though it was later, the Midianites had to pay the price for seducing Israel into participating in idolatry. Romans 12:19 AMP “Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.” Deuteronomy 32:35 AMP “Vengeance is Mine, and retribution, In due time their foot will slip; For the day of their disaster is at hand, And their doom hurries to meet them.’” We must never forget what the Lord has instructed us to do, what He has brought us through and be reminded of who we belong to…..Jesus.

  5. 6And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand. 7And they warred against the Midianites, as the LORD commanded Moses; and they slew all the males. 8And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

When God declares war he arms those he has called to the battle lines. He does not exempt any person. Even the sin of the priest went to war to blow the holy instruments and trumpets to war against the enemy. There is great power in the battle cry of Gods people. No matter the size of the enemy. We have to prepare ourselves for the battle, both spiritually and physically. We have to prepare our minds and bodies with the whole armor of God.

This is the song we need to sing while preparing for battle:

Your name is our battle cry
Your name is the banner we’re lifting hight
    Your name is our victory
    You fight for us

Moses was accountable to GOD for the people. As the overseer of Israel, GOD gave him wisdom and insight into the safety and good of the people of GOD. In this chapter we witness what the people seemed to believe was good enough, but GOD still had more for them to FINISH.

There are and will be opportunities in our walk with GOD that we may feel as if we have done enough, but GOD who is all wise knows what is best and fruitful for us to protect our future.

What may seem harmless to us, may in fact be deadly. For this reason Solomon penned:

6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

Safety is found in the multitude of Counselors. When in battle take counsel and FINISH the battle.

  7. Purify. Those things that can pass through the fire, do it so they will be purified. This things that can’t, the flocks wer kept awake they were not people, but all they boys were killed along with the ladies who knew men. They only kept the pure girls. Girls at this age were still able to be taught and influenced. Older girls would have their culture ingrained upon them already. This allows some to live, but the influence of their past life to be ata minimum.

  8. 15. And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

    16. Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

    17. Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

Everything that leads us away from God (things, habits, relationships, etc) has to go.

  9. “that is, all metals that do not burn—must be passed through fire in order to be made ceremonially pure. These metal objects must then be further purified with the water of purification. But everything that burns must be purified by the water alone.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭31:23‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/num.31.23.nlt

    Too cool
It’s gotta pass through the fire to be ceremonially pure. I know some of y’all have heard a 1000 times but maybe someone out there hasn’t. When we pass through the fire it’s so the impurity’s can surface and we can take care of it. I was reading a book and in the book it was talking about gold and how you can’t see the impurity’s before gold is put in the fire. It looks the same but in order for it to become pure you have to put it through the fire.

“So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭1:6-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/1pe.1.6-7.nlt

  10. So Moses and Eleazar the priest accepted the gifts from the generals and captains and brought the gold to the Tabernacle as a reminder to the Lord that the people of Israel belong to him.
    Numbers 31:54 NLT

Even in victory, God deserves an offering. In all things, He is good and worthy of our praise.

  11. Warred with holy instruments

[12] And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

💛Numbers 31:23 Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

    🎶2 Chronicles 5:13-14
    [13] It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord ; and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the Lord , saying , For he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever: that then the house was filled with a cloud, even the house of the Lord ;
14] So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of God.

  12. 15And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

16Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord.

17Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

We must be careful to get out of our lives anything that would cause us to return to the sins of our past. Those sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus and should not affect us any longer.

  13. 23 Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

This is a great principle, everything I do or desire should be tried by the fire – prayed about, sought God after, don’t move until God says move, don’t say it until God approves of it, don’t make a decision until God has said yeah or nay — if I will try everything with the fire (prayer, searching the Word) then I can’t go wrong.

God will answer if we will just ask and wait. If it doesn’t pay the fire test – then we should leave it alone.

  14. 54 verses and i couldn’t get over the fact that they took the young ladies and the little girls………

18But all the women children, that have not known a man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.!!! The BIBLE says there is not one thing new under the sun, so everything seen now has already been done before, there are some things that i don’t want to ever see but this one thing my eyes and heart would hate to see, even if they were on the enemies side ……. LORD keep us and guide our steps ……….

  15. 1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
3And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.

You don’t mess with a child of God. We need to understand how precious we are to God. How much he desires to protect us from all that is evil and avengers should someone do is wrong. surely it doesn’t make us better than anybody else but due to that anointing that he places on his children God will always protect us. I have personally experienced this I’m more than one occasion or I was done wrong by an employer and after I left that job things went downhill. I’m not sure if it was because of what they have done to me or if it was just coincidence but I do know that God has always had my back. Perhaps if we walked around with that confidence of how God so his children and there are many issues we would avoid worrying about because we would know that God will have it taken care of.

  16. Moses was angry because the children of Israel failed to see the great danger of sexual immorality and idolatry posed by these women who before led the men of Israel into these exact sins.

Christians are often tripped up by things that were a threat, but they did not see them as a threat. Though most Israelites thought these women were safe, they were more dangerous to Israel than an army of mighty warriors. Israel could overcome mighty warriors if they were spiritually strong; but if they were seduced into immorality and idolatry, they would certainly fall.
We often think of many things as dangerous to us as Christians – hostile government, secular humanism, academic attack, and so forth. But the things we accept in our midst as Christians that open the door to immorality and idolatry can do far more real damage than any of those other things.

  17. 23Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.

    Jesus is the refiner!

    Taken from a commentary
“ God uses the same means to purify believers today – the fire of trials and the water of washing.

When God uses the fire of purification, we can say with Job: When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold (Job 23:10). The fire purifies precious metal by causing the impurities (the dross) to rise to the top, where the refiner can skim them away. The refiner can tell when the gold is pure, because he can then see his reflection in the pool of gold.

When God wants to wash us clean, He not only uses the waters of baptism, but also the ministry of the Word as described in Ephesians 5:26: That He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word.”

  18. God has our back always. He takes care of us in every way. If we choose to be unclean and live partly as he has commanded we loose our caretaking from him. I want to keep God as my caretaker, how about you?

  19. The purification was always done by Fire 🔥 and water 💦 ! Fire has always been a symbol of the Holy Ghost and water is the symbol of baptism. What more do we need as proof that we must be CLEAN by our Lord And Savior through the gift of the Holy Ghost with evidence of speaking in tongues and the baptism in Jesus Name Amen

  20. 23Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
24And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean, and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

When God wants to use us we must pass through the fire and be purified from all things that are not gratifying to God. Trials by fire are meant to test us, to cleanse us and restore us. Things that we are going through right now that seem unbearable are later going to make us stronger for what is to come. We are stronger than we think, God loves us enough to put us through the fire.
When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold Job 23:10

  21. iLove Jesus
Num 31:2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

Ok, just a recap of who the Midianites are:
After Abraham’s wife Sarah died, Abraham (over 100 years old) got him another wife named Keturah and had at least 6 sons. The Midianites came from this union. They were children of Abraham. This is also where Jethro (Moses Father in Law) came from. the Bible calls Jethro a “Priest of Midian”.

The question is, why did God want the Children of Israel to avenge the Midianites? The answer is found in a previous chapter when the Midianites hired Balaam to prophesy against the Children of Israel. The curse didn’t land on Israel, but now it will land on the Midianites instead.

  22. Every spoil that was taken was divided up, distributed out and then a portion was offered up to the Lord. But everybody who contributed, whether it was in the congregation, in the battle, or in the Tabernacle, they all received a portion. So why would you not serve for the kingdom of God and miss out on your portion?

  23. 31And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as the Lord commanded Moses.

In school we learned about Newton’s Law of Motion #3 “for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction”. When reading about Moses, we can see throughout the chapters that He reacts and obeys as The Lord commands. And, as we’ve read the Lord blesses his obedience. Just as well we can see when the children are disobedient the Lord responds in a different manner.

Which reminded me of Newton’s law, for every action there is a reaction, and it is our choice how we choose to react. We can be like Moses and react in obedience or like the children choosing to obey when necessary.

Whichever way we decided to act, we must remember the Lord will have an equal reaction.

  24. Numbers 31
21 Then Eleazar the priest said to the soldiers who had gone into battle, “This is what is required by the law that the Lord gave Moses: 22 Gold, silver, bronze, iron, tin, lead 23 and anything else that can withstand fire must be put through the fire, and then it will be clean. But it must also be purified with the water of cleansing. And whatever cannot withstand fire must be put through that water.

The Midianites had caused a lot of people to go into sexual sins. God does get tired of sin . Our world regards nothing as holy . Talk actions disregard to what is meant to be sacred ……..purification comes through fire and water. Though we living and upholding the commandments of God may have to go through fire and the waters to be purified. We sat from what ? Attitudes distractions things that may try to attach itself to us as we are making our way into the Kingdom of God . Daily we must pray Lord search me cleanse me purify my thoughts . We cannot allow anything to attach itself to us that would cause us to lose our with God . Keep the faith even through the testing cleansing times of going through the fire there are things being purge cleansed from your spirit . God is watching He said if they can’t take the fire then through the water they would go . Just a reminder that when you have come through the fire you will come out as pure gold. Want more of God ? Want to be as gold expect tests expect the fires of cleansing don’t like that then go through the waters . Live Give Jesus each time of testing or purging out requires sacrifice of self . Not about me God but You . Cleanse me from anything unlike You . In Jesus Name …..

    Isaiah
    “Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;
I have summoned you by name; you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters,
    I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers,
they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire,
    you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
    the Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I give Egypt for your ransom,
Cush[a] and Seba in your stead.
4 Since you are precious and honored in my sight,
    and because I love you,

nations in exchange for your life.
    5 Do not be afraid, for I am with you;
I will bring your children from the east
and gather you from the west.
6 I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’
and to the south, ‘Do not hold them back.’

and my daughters from the ends of the earth—
7 everyone who is called by my name,
whom I created for my glory,

    Live Give Jesus

  25. 31:8 and the children of Israel took all the women captives
And the little ones and took the spoil of all their cattle, of all their flocks and their food.
    ——-
Let’s not asume and come out with our own better ideas when it comes to do something g we were told To do
    In a certain way…
They were told to kill all men and women. But they were impressed by what they saw and changed the plan.
    Gods plan., not good!!!

  26. 50We have therefore brought an oblation for the Lord, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, chains, and bracelets, rings, earrings, and tablets, to make an atonement for our souls before the Lord.

After God took his vengeance upon Midian, they divided up the spoils of that conquest and it was more than enough for each tribe and each family. But take your eyes off the spoils of war – and remember the reason for the war. It was because of their sin of worship to the Midianite gods. Many died in this battle and the spoils came due to obedience to make amends for their sin.

  27. 5 So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

God is showing the Israelites that unity is required by him for war. He asked for a thousand men from each tribe no matter their census. When they show obedience then he will go before them and give them the victory.

  28. Numbers 31:15-17
    15) And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?
    16) Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the LORD, in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the LORD.
    17) Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

We should total get rid of and destroy the things in our lives that would cause us to sin against the LORD. We can’t just get rid of it. We must destroy it, so that we are not tempted to go back to it.

  29. 15 And Moses said unto them, have ye saved all the woman alive? 16 Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against the Lord in the matter of Peor, and there was a plague among the congregation of the Lord. 17 Now therefore kill every male among tjhe little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

If you disobey God, be prepared for the wrath of God. He loves his children but do not blatanly go against God. If you know you are doing wrong, Gods grace will not be with you. The Israelites had purification through fire and water. We need to cleansed with pure thoughts.

    * “Haz la venganza”

  31. Numbers 31 1-2 [ Amp] The Lord said to Moses,
[2] Avenge the Israelites on the Midiainites ; afterward you shall be gathered to your departed people. There are people that watching us working for God’s Kingdom , Lord my prayer today is that people will see Jesus in us and follow us to be what you want us to be. Lord let your will be done.

  32. 23Every thing that may abide the fire, ye shall make it go through the fire, and it shall be clean: nevertheless it shall be purified with the water of separation: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make go through the water.
God puts us through the fire to purify us and rebuild us. Sometime we don’t understand why? Or we feel like there’s no way I can do this!?! but the Lord shows us how strong we really are. He shows us our purpose He has for us. So when you’re going through a trial remember the Lord is purifying and cleansing you to become what He has created you to be! He will get you through it and give you victory…

  33. God has always been able to provide for his people. It doesn’t matter how tough the situation looks, God has the power to still make a way out of no way. Through him we have power to overcome all things.

  34. And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
    Numbers 31:6 KJV

Never go into battle unarmed. God has equiped us with the best weapons for the job! Prayer, praise, and the Word of God!!

  35. 1And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.
3 And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm some of yourselves unto the war, and let them go against the Midianites, and avenge the Lord of Midian.
4 Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.
5 So there were delivered out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.
6 And Moses sent them to the war, a thousand of every tribe, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the holy instruments, and the trumpets to blow in his hand.
7 And they warred against the Midianites, as the Lord commanded Moses; and they slew all the males.
8 And they slew the kings of Midian, beside the rest of them that were slain; namely, Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.
9 And the children of Israel took all the women of Midian captives, and their little ones, and took the spoil of all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods.
10 And they burnt all their cities wherein they dwelt, and all their goodly castles, with fire.
11 And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of men and of beasts.
12 And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and
Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by Jordan near Jericho.

I find interesting how God in the 1st verse spake unto Moses essentially giving him the “OK” to enter into battle, the assertion that is to be noted is that this was a God ordained request, a direct order if you will from God himself.

Now, I cannot help but imagine these people already had a guaranteed victory on their side, God himself was going before them, they particularly had a sealed victory in the bag. When you have a God who goes before you, the confidence that we should walk in, the surety of the promise made will not allow us to falter in our faith.

As the writer states, “yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death I shall fear no evil”. IF we could really understand that before we even start to worry about the battle he has already been there. The elements of the battle he has already calculated, the details of the fight have already been viewed and noted. But we have a great hope, we do not fight alone, we do not contend in this faith alone a God who is rich in mercy and love is watching out for us. IF his eye is on the sparrow, I know he watches over me.

The beauty of this are the assertions that he indicates, “I will NEVER leave you, no forsake you I will be with you to the end of the earth”. That’s a great promise, may we fight in confidence in God, and may we understand we are not in this alone. It would be tragic that God would be standing at the finish line with the torch of victory as he fought for us and won the battle yet because of our faith we would not contend to the end to maintain the victory.

Could it be that God has more faith in us, then we do in him? Yet we have a God who is vastly Holy and righteous we have not faith to finish the race to the end? May we get a hold of his nailed scared hand and run this race with patience enduring to the end. I must see Jesus one day.

  36. 21And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war which went to the battle, This is the ordinance of the law which the Lordcommanded Moses;

Purification and cleansing is what God asks of us. How do we do that? Start with repentance and wash away all you sin in the waters of baptism in Jesus name. Then live a holy separate life.

  37. 13And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.
14And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, with the captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, which came from the battle.

  38. Wow! So much gold. Do as the Lord commands, follow orders, don’t be greedy. You will be blessed for being humble and waiting.
