Numbers 32

Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;

The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

Ataroth, and Dibon, and Jazer, and Nimrah, and Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Shebam, and Nebo, and Beon,

Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?

Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

10 And the Lord‘S anger was kindled the same time, and he sware, saying,

11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.

13 And the Lord‘S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.

14 And, behold, ye are risen up in your fathers’ stead, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the Lord toward Israel.

15 For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave them in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

16 And they came near unto him, and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our cattle, and cities for our little ones:

17 But we ourselves will go ready armed before the children of Israel, until we have brought them unto their place: and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,

21 And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the Lord, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him,

22 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.

23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.

24 Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

25 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben spake unto Moses, saying, Thy servants will do as my lord commandeth.

26 Our little ones, our wives, our flocks, and all our cattle, shall be there in the cities of Gilead:

27 But thy servants will pass over, every man armed for war, before the Lord to battle, as my lord saith.

28 So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the son of Nun, and the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel:

29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

30 But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

31 And the children of Gad and the children of Reuben answered, saying, As the Lord hath said unto thy servants, so will we do.

32 We will pass over armed before the Lord into the land of Canaan, that the possession of our inheritance on this side Jordan may be our’s.

33 And Moses gave unto them, even to the children of Gad, and to the children of Reuben, and unto half the tribe of Manasseh the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with the cities thereof in the coasts, even the cities of the country round about.

34 And the children of Gad built Dibon, and Ataroth, and Aroer,

35 And Atroth, Shophan, and Jaazer, and Jogbehah,

36 And Bethnimrah, and Bethharan, fenced cities: and folds for sheep.

37 And the children of Reuben built Heshbon, and Elealeh, and Kirjathaim,

38 And Nebo, and Baalmeon, (their names being changed,) and Shibmah: and gave other names unto the cities which they builded.

39 And the children of Machir the son of Manasseh went to Gilead, and took it, and dispossessed the Amorite which was in it.

40 And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

41 And Jair the son of Manasseh went and took the small towns thereof, and called them Havothjair.

42 And Nobah went and took Kenath, and the villages thereof, and called it Nobah, after his own name.

  1. 18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,

Will you fight for me brother??? They didn’t have to for the land they wanted was on this side of the Jordan. God is a just God. He just wanted to make sure that they will not back out for the promise was for ALL ISRAEL !!! So it was only fair that since God liberated them ALL, that ALL FOUGHT FOR WHAT GOD HAD FOR THEM. The price of freedom is great. To this day, there is land that belongs to Israel that they have been unable to possess!! May the Lord Bless ISRAEL to possess it All!! In Jesus Name Amen 🙏🏻

  2. 20And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the LORD to war, 21And will go all of you armed over Jordan before the LORD, until he hath driven out his enemies from before him, 22And the land be subdued before the LORD: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the LORD, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the LORD. 23But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out. 24Build you cities for your little ones, and folds for your sheep; and do that which hath proceeded out of your mouth.

The tribes of Reuben and Gad wanted to jump on the best area to settle and forget about the promise land There are many in this world that are only out to get what is theirs. Reuben and Gad has no intentions to going over Jordan and they expected a prime piece of real estate. Moses three back at them to remind them that they were a part of the ten that gave negative reports to Moses when the spies were sent to investigate. Not knowing that the Lord commanded them in order to get what they wanted they had to help do as the Lord commanded Moses by sending them to help clear the enemies out of the promise land.

These things in our walk with God come down to strict obedience. It’s about the kingdom and what we can gain for the Lord. It is not about our own agenda. It is about souls and about the word and Jesus. It’s about the kingdom and living Jesus so that we can bring the word and truth to the dying world. It is a mission that we must accept and go to do. Live Jesus to give Jesus.

  3. Numbers 32
    It’s not time to quit.
It’s not time to stop short of what God has promised.
Don’t be content keep moving forward .
People become complacent comfort in just doing the little but to get by . Many times falling short from what God was getting ready to do .

It’s time to make a difference ……..you cannot change the past but you can take the present to make a difference for your future!

“Thus your fathers did when I sent them away from Kadesh Barnea to see the land. For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, so that they did not go into the land which the LORD had given them. The children of Israel were on their way to the Promised Land but some become content , some fell away ….I look around I even meet with those who have allowed their promises to grow so dim they no longer want to continue to the reward that has been promised. Falling short when just a few more steps would have gotten them right where they had been longing to get to . My prayer today is that I keep my eyes on Jesus and not allow the distractions of what is around me to keep from The Promised Land ….

  4. Numbers 32

The tribes of Reuben and Gad request an inheritance on the east of Jordan
. (1-5) Moses reproves the Reubenites and Gadites. (6-15) They explain their views, Moses consents. (16-27) They take possession of the land to the east of Jordan. (28-42)

  5. We are all brothers and sisters in the Lord and we should live according. It’s not all about me, myself and I. God made us to help each other and he provides for us very well.

  6. 23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.

    Nothing is hidden from God.

  7. 18 We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.
19 For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.
20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,

While these tribes seem to have then okay it God permitted them to settle in that land it makes me think of how many times do we as children of God settle for less because we are happy with where we are at when God’s trying to take us somewhere much bigger and much better. It is human nature to want to stay comfortable but the greatest things in life are on the other side of that. While God has blessed POFW in so many ways, it would be easy to become content with where we are at but I truly believe that God is stretching us and causing us to continue to seek for more because he has bigger things in the future for us

  8. Numbers 32:15 [Amp] For if you turn from following Him, He will again abandon them in the
wilderness, and you will destroy all this people. We must be careful what we say or do in front of people. God is watching us , We should love sinner and hate the sin. Pray for one another and forgive one another. This all about God and his kingdom. Tell your testimony to them and let them share there’s. We all have one ! Love, Live, Give Jesus!

  9. Numbers 32:11-12 (NLT)
    11) Of all those I rescued from Egypt, no one who is twenty years old and older will ever see the land I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, for they have not obeyed me wholeheartedly.
    12) The only exception are Caleb son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite and Joshua son of Nun, for they have wholeheartedly followed the LORD.

The only way to see your promise fulfilled is to Obey God and Follow Him Wholeheartedly!

  10. But if you fail to keep your word, then you will have sinned against the Lord , and you may be sure that your sin will find you out. Go ahead and build towns for your families and pens for your flocks, but do everything you have promised.”
    Numbers 32:23‭-‬24 NLT

Seeing them settle for this reminds me of a message Pastor preached about robbing God. We may not rob Him with our tithes and offerings, but in trying times like this we rob God the opportunity to bless and fulfill His promises. Don’t sell yourself short when God is working and has given you a promise. Follow where He leads and He is faithful to carry you all the way through to His promises!

  11. They said, “If we have found favor in your sight, let this land be given to your servants as a possession. Do not take us across the Jordan [River].” But Moses said to the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben, “Shall your brothers go to war while you sit here? Now why are you discouraging the hearts of the Israelites from crossing over into the land which the Lord has given them? This is what your fathers did when I sent them from Kadesh-barnea to see the land! For when they went up to the Valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the hearts of the Israelites so that they did not go into the land which the Lord had given them.
    Numbers 32:5‭-‬9 AMP

No one is ever born with a silver spoon in their mouth! You must obey, work, and contribute in order to posses all that the LORD has intended for the POFW. There is so much more for us, our children, and generations after. Why settle only with what the flesh desires? Stop falling short of the LORD’s blessings.

  12. We must be careful not to reject the Lord, as the people of Reuben and Gad were actually doing, by NOT wanting to go forward; but, settle short of their promise. We might say, well I would never do that; but, in reality a lot of times, when you refuse to praise, refuse to be obedient or refuse to listen……we are doing just that….rejecting. This chapter also continues to speak of promises as the previous chapters and we must remember to keep ours as Numbers 32 CEV says “But if you don’t keep your promise, you will sin against the Lord and be punished.”

    REBELLION REVEALS

23 But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord: and be sure your sin will find you out.

Our human nature is sneaky in the dark. We like to boast of our good deeds and hide or conceal our bad. Moses speaks an eternal TRUTH here that we are wise to consider also.

“Be SURE your sin WILL find YOU out”

We may not always get “caught” by someone, but the frailty and weakness of sin we cannot hide. Secret sins are often revealed in the battle. When our covering is missing, when our strength is weak. This is when sin will be found out.

The righteous life is ready for battle at all times. Nothing to hide and nothing to conceal. GOD already knows anyway, so we may as well be honest with ourselves and others.

REBELLION REVEALS itself in the most inconvenient of times; when we need strength and power. LIVE JESUS in secret and we can GIVE JESUS to all.

  14. 32:25 and the children of God and the children of Reube spake with Moses, saying; thy servants will do as my Lord commanded.
COMMUNICATION !!! communication, submission and of course prayer.
Everything works better where these three things are apply.

  15. 6 And Moses said unto the children of Gad and to the children of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

7 And wherefore discourage ye the heart of the children of Israel from going over into the land which the Lord hath given them?

Without unity, their cause would fall apart and each tribe would pursue their own ways and when the enemy would attack, they would be easily overcome. We need to stay United and work together as a body of Christ to overcome the evil of this present time and reach the souls around us.

  16. 9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

13 And the Lord‘S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.

The words of our mouths can elevate us or deflate us!!

    Job 15:5
For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity,
and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.

    Proverbs 10:31
The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom:
but the froward tongue shall be cut out.

    James 3:5-8
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind: But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

  17. the tribes of Ruben and gad wanted to take land for themselves and acted selfish and would have been taken out by the evil tribes around them.

  18. 29 And Moses said unto them, If the children of Gad and the children of Reuben will pass with you over Jordan, every man armed to battle, before the Lord, and the land shall be subdued before you; then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession:

  19. iLove Jesus
Numbers 32:1-2 KJV  Now the children of Reuben and the children of Gad had a very great multitude of cattle: and when they saw the land of Jazer, and the land of Gilead, that, behold, the place was a place for cattle;  (2)  The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

This is another great example of man having the ability to ask and receive something from God that might not have been the perfect will of God. We all must be careful when taking this approach. This had happened to the generation before when they chose not to enter into the promise land. God said Ok, you dont have to go. God is not going to force us to go into the promised land. We all have free will to go or to stay.

  20. 6“Do you intend to stay here while your brothers go across and do all the fighting?” Moses asked the men of Gad and Reuben. 7“Why do you want to discourage the rest of the people of Israel from going across to the land the LORD has given them?

There are some who like to discourage and bring others down with them. If friends are negative all the time, just stay away from them. Stay encouraged, speak positive all the time, and good things will happen all the time. God wants you to have faith in him.

  21. 22 And the land be subdued before the Lord: then afterward ye shall return, and be guiltless before the Lord, and before Israel; and this land shall be your possession before the Lord.

It is something about this verse that I am confused about feeling guiltless.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  22. ““But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.”
    ‭‭Numbers‬ ‭32:23‬ ‭

There’s no thought, action or word spoken that the Lord isn’t aware of!

    Don’t confuse grace as acceptance.

  23. 2 The children of Gad and the children of Reuben came and spake unto Moses, and to Eleazar the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

4 Even the country which the Lord smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for cattle, and thy servants have cattle:

5 Wherefore, said they, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy servants for a possession, and bring us not over Jordan.

God loves His People and knows and wants what is best for them. If the land on this side of Jordan was where they were supposed to be, that is where God would have sent them. It’s not wise to try to think we know better than God what is best for us.

  24. Don’t allow others to bring you down. Be strong and pray if you have confusion. Do not let people guide you, let our Lord do that. It may be easy to go with the flow but most of these people are in the world. Remember love the sinner hate the sin.

  25. Numbers 32
Even though some of us have received a promise from God, however big or small, we are still to fight for our brethren in the church through prayer and fasting for their goal or need in the Lord. That means we need to get to know them and their situation in life, so we know how to pray for them, what their needs are. They can share with us their prayer requests. We need to be faithful to pray/fight for them. At the same time we need to not share what they have not consented to. We need to have their permission in order to share their prayer requests and so respect their privacy. Not everyone shares as easily as others, so try not to prod them for further information, if they seem reluctant to give details about their situation. But by prayer, and prayer and fasting, we can help others into the promised land!
    Hallelujah!!
    Praise God!

  26. The Lord has conquered this whole area for the community of Israel, and it is ideally suited for all our livestock. If we have found favor with you, please let us have this land as our property instead of giving us land across the Jordan River.”
    Numbers 32:4‭-‬5 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/num.32.4-5.NLT

There is danger in “Just Good Enough”.
The Lord may have conquered the whole area but that’s not the land of Promise. They fell outside the Lord’s Promise and protection because they found comfort. Why go the whole way when you can just coast and be stagnant?
They even decided to help win battles and seize land but the land of Promise was still not enticing enough for these 2 1/2 tribes…
Later on I believe they decide to build places of worship that are not true altars so there is no death to sin, just comfort in lifestyle. The Bible says to be sober and keep watch. That means stay alert, be attentive, don’t grow weary in well doing, because the deception of Just Good Enough can dull your senses and eventually destroy you.

  27. [18] We will not return unto our houses, until the children of Israel have inherited every man his inheritance.

19] For we will not inherit with them on yonder side Jordan, or forward; because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side Jordan eastward.

[23] But if ye will not do so, behold, ye have sinned against the Lord : and be sure your sin will find you out.

  28. 20 And Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will go armed before the Lord to war,

Sometimes, doing nothing is a great sin – and it is a sin that will certainly become evident, and will find us out.

  29. They choose to prepare a place for their families. Moses spoke to them about commitments and reminded them of their past. They committed to follow through and they were told that was good.

Sometimes in our lives we want to do things for our families. It’s not wrong to help our families, but we must remember that we have to keep our eyes on what Jesus has called us to do. We can’t loose sight of the kingdom work that has to be done.

  30. 23 But if you fail to do this, you will be sinning against the Lord; and you may be sure that your sin will find you out.
‭
There’s nothing that we can hide from God. He knows our inside out, our coming and going. Best thing to do is to be open and honest with out creator there nothing that goes unseen by Him.

  31. 8 Thus did your fathers, when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

9 For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol, and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the children of Israel, that they should not go into the land which the Lord had given them.

Do not be a stumbling block. If you have nothing to say that will edify or encourage then you should watch what you say. It is better to speak life and to correct building up than tear down and discourage. God takes a close look at this and it may just cost you stepping into your promises.

  32. 11 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me:

12 Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.

13 And the Lord’S anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years, until all the generation, that had done evil in the sight of the Lord, was consumed.

Follow him wholly and stop wondering the wilderness. Christianity is a life style, its a way of life, so you cant spend your life in Canaan if you have not made the Lord your life.
