Joshua 16

And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

And goeth out from Bethel to Luz, and passeth along unto the borders of Archi to Ataroth,

And goeth down westward to the coast of Japhleti, unto the coast of Bethhoron the nether, and to Gezer; and the goings out thereof are at the sea.

So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: even the border of their inheritance on the east side was Atarothaddar, unto Bethhoron the upper;

And the border went out toward the sea to Michmethah on the north side; and the border went about eastward unto Taanathshiloh, and passed by it on the east to Janohah;

And it went down from Janohah to Ataroth, and to Naarath, and came to Jericho, and went out at Jordan.

The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families.

And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

  1. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

They are so many people today who will walk past the lost and dying brothers and sisters in this world who need to hear the truth and be pointed to the lord and that is our job, not to drive them away but to lead them to the only truth that will save them. We must always love the sinner and hate the sin.

  2. 9And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages. 10And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Here you have a tribe of Israel that was reduced in number and the other increased in number when the lots of the land was given. We find that the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim were mingled among each other because the inheritance was not enough for ephraim. Then we find that the tribe of Ephraim did not drive out the canaanites, for they swelled among them as tribute.

We find that the commentary states that Ephraim went against the law of God by not driving them out, but rather allowed them to stay among the tribe of Ephraim. Some feel that this was a cowardice move because Ephraim could not defeat them. I find that some folks today want to straddle the fence when it comes to God. The want all the blessings of God and give him everything on Sunday’s, but they want all the world has to offer so they give everything to the world the other six days of the week.

Just like in chapter 24 of Joshua-

14Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

We have to make up our minds and choose which master we are going to serve. We can not serve two masters. We are either all God or we are all world. We can not be Luke warm. As for me and my house we will serve the Lord.

  3. 1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

The blessings of God go far and wide. Don’t ever think that God has a limited amount of blessings to give out. By his power we are beyond blessed. As long as we stay in his will we can do mighty things. We must go beyond our feelings to do what God wants us to do in order to receive his blessings.

    POTENTIAL SERVANTS

10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

It is unclear at this point why the Canaanites were not drove out or destroyed. But what I glean from this point is the fact that we do not need to be intimidated by everyone and everything, It appears that GOD gave Israel assistance and labor through those that were there.

Those that were spared became servant to those that pursued. This is why it is important to Kingdom servants to be Leaders. Even when we do not drive out or destroy, we will be in authority over that which we occupy.

We are not wise to consider every foe an enemy. But seek the LORD for HIS favor, power and wisdom to know how to proceed.

    Proceed through Prayer.

  5. 10. And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

The longer we let things dwell in our lives, the harder it is to drive them out later, until they are embedded so deeply they seem to just become a part of us.

  6. iLove Jesus
10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Joseph was dead and buried at this time but he was probably rolling over in his grave when he realized his children could not drive out the enemy. But the thing is, our great leaders can’t believe we can’t drive the devil out of our own cities…wow

  7. The allotment for Joseph began at the Jordan, east of the springs of Jericho, and went up from there through the desert into the hill country of Bethel. 2 It went on from Bethel (that is, Luz),[a] crossed over to the territory of the Arkites in Ataroth, 3 descended westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the region of Lower Beth Horon and on to Gezer, ending at the Mediterranean Sea.

  8. Joshua 16:9-10 [Amp] With the towns set apart for the Ephraimites within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages.
[10] But they did not drive out the Canaanites who dwell in Gezer ; But the Gezer ; But the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites to this day, and they became slaves required to do forced labor.
We must continue to keeping on reaching and teaching the word of God. He knowledge and guildness.
Prov. 2-3 [ Amp] That people may know skillful and godly Wisdom and instruction, discern and comprehend the words of understanding and insight.
]3] Receive , instruction in wise dealing and discipline of wise thoughtfulness, righteousness, justice, and integrity.

  9. And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness😄😄😄😄😄😄

  10. 9 And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.
10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

It doesn’t necessarily say they couldn’t drive them out, it just says they didn’t. Sometimes there may be things in our lives we tolerate and try to control when really we could just get rid of them, claim full victory, and not have to deal with them anymore. We make excuses and claim such things as a crutch, but is that the truth? I choose complete victory today in Jesus Name!

  11. Verse 10 MSG “But they didn’t get rid of the Canaanites who were living in Gezer. Canaanites are still living among the people of Ephraim, but they are made to do forced labor.” Same verse AMP “But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live among Ephraim to this day, and they became forced laborers.” Whatever your still trying to hold onto that is of this world (flesh), drive it out or put it under your feet, where it belongs.

  12. 3 And goeth down westward to the coast of Japhleti, unto the coast of Bethhoron the nether, and to Gezer; and the goings out thereof are at the sea.
4 So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

God is keeping track of everything does he has promised us

  13. Joshua 16
10 But they didn’t get rid of the Canaanites who were living in Gezer. Canaanites are still living among the people of Ephraim, but they are made to do forced labor.

I’m not sure why the Canaanites were not driven out. The forced labor they were made to do is also not given to any detail. Did these boys recall the hard labor that had been pressed upon their families when taken into captivity after their father Joseph died . We don’t know. But scripture says they remained. We live in a diverse world today. Prejudice groups have risen up everywhere even those if same nations come against one another . We must realize that what ever nationalities are around us we can labor together. We can hold up our own. standards of life . Customs and beliefs will be different. My mind went immediately to the book of Acts where when the Holy Ghost was poured out upon the Gentiles. Thankfully the inheritance of this wonderful promise has been extended to us. Now we too can be assured not only God’s chosen but we too now are His chosen. We must not despise those who are different than us but reach towards many around us. I was told that their is a group of people who have refused to reach the areas of poverty in our city less they have no monetary means to contrition their congregations. How sad . I am so glad that when people walk into POFW there is a vast potpourri of people.

Psalm 72:17 – “May his name endure forever; may it continue as long as the sun. All nations will be blessed through him, and they will call him blessed.”

  14. They did not drive the Canaanites out of Gezer, however, so the people of Gezer live as slaves among the people of Ephraim to this day.
    Joshua 16:10 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/jos.16.10.NLT

This continues in more tribes! I believe this is one of the influences of why Israel constantly was back and forth in serving God. God told them to drive out the enemy but when they finally started getting their blessings they got comfortable and settled.

  15. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Don’t get so comfortable with sin that you let it dwell in the same place you’re living in.

  16. 1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,
2 And goeth out from Bethel to Luz, and passeth along unto the borders of Archi to Ataroth,
3 And goeth down westward to the coast of Japhleti, unto the coast of Bethhoron the nether, and to Gezer; and the goings out thereof are at the sea.
4 So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

Here I understand that Joshua divides up the Promise Land. So the land needed to be divided between their two tribes and Joseph’s descendants get the best part of the land and it was the most beautiful and fertile part! They were about to receive such a beautiful blessing not only that What a privilege is to be blessed with such an inheritance. We must appreciate the many blessings God has given us.

  17. 16:17 and they drave not out the cannanites that dwelt in Gezzer : but the cannanites dwelt Among the Ephraimites v
Until this day and serve unto tribute.
—- they did not do it…..
God always has a plan. And the cannanites have their time coming…
No matter how it looks like, God knows how to get things done.

  18. 1 Joshua gave some land east of Jericho to the tribes of Joseph. Their land started at the Jordan and went through the desert into the hills of Bethel.
2 The edge of their land went from Bethel (that is, Luz) to the land of the Arkites in Ataroth.
3 Their land continued to the west, to the land of the Japhletites by lower Beth Horon. It ended near the sea, by Gezer.
4 Joshua gave this land to Manasseh and Ephraim, the sons of Joseph. It was for them and their families.

    Joshua 16:1-4 EASY
    https://bible.com/bible/2079/jos.16.4.EASY

Joshua was splitting the land between all of them they were sharing the inheritance that God gave them. They desired the inheritance that God had gave them, we need to see and open up our eyes and open up our hearts to God. We need to see what God has gave us now all the blessings and miracles he has done for us. He is the all o might God and only God. LIVE GIVE JESUS!

  19. 4This was the homeland allocated to the families of Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim.

Yes, God gave this land to the Israel. We should be content with what is given to us. Its more than we deserve, and say thank you God!

  20. CANAANITES STILL IN THE LAND WERE A WITNESS TO THE FAILURE OF THE JEWS TO ACCOMPLISH GOD’S WILL. They may have failed

    (1) from weakness and indolence,

    (2) from mercenary motives, thinking to make profit out of the Canaanites with their tribute.

But these Canaanites were a cause of future trouble and a constant temptation to idolatry and immorality. We shall always suffer when we neglect God’s will for worldly convenience.

CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE AN INSTANCE OF THE MIXED CONDITION OF HUMAN SOCIETY.

CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE AN EXAMPLE OF A COMMON CAUSE OF NATIONAL WEAKNESS.

CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE A TYPE OF SINS REMAINING IN THE HEART OF THE CHRISTIAN.

  21. 1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

The blessings of God are always, all the details are clear and precise. Thank you God for your blessings!

  22. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

We can’t take part of what the world is doing but we can’t remove them either. We are to love the lost, live among them, and be an example of what Christ have done in our lives. Show them the way to Christ. Live Christ so you can give Christ!!!

  23. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Serving under tribute sounds pretty close to being a slave or a second class citizen. This isnt a good scenario for peaceful living. We know that eventually the laws of God were breached and they intermarried and started serving the gods of the Canaanites and it turned them from their God. We cant serve 2 masters, we must choose this day whom we will serve.

  24. God promised the Israelites the Promise land. He is always true to his word. He blessed them with the land they inherited. It was divided up so each tribe had their own area. There were thousands of people so if God did not have a plan to divide the land, chaos may have consumed the people. We should be grateful for all we have because it actually belongs to our Jesus! He blesses us daily.

  25. 8 The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families.

Ephraim and Manasseh were the children of Joseph. Joseph has blessed the children of Israel by saving his family first by giving them Goshen when the were in the middle of a famine. They moved, lived in Goshen in Egypt and also were well taken care of until those in Egypt forgot about the good deeds and the prosperity Joseph had brought to Egypt in their time of need. After which the children of Israel entered their time of slavery until Moses had brought the out of bondage. Then Moses leads the Israelites into the wilderness and brings them all the way to the Promise Land until he passes away after the children of Israel have wandered for 40 years in the wilderness. Now Joshua has led the Israelites and conquered so much in their name of which has been promises unto them all the way back to Abraham! Abraham and his many (generations) of sons!! Joshua is now stricken in years. I say all of that to say this, It has been years and generations since Joseph! It has been years and generations since EPHRAIM AND MANASSEH, yet we are still speaking of their inheritance and their blessing that are included in the package deal!

God not only blesses you for your deeds and your soul devotion to Him, but he includes that in your children’s inheritance. You want them to walk in the Lord, then give your everything to Him!! Live Jesus, Give Jesus!! You want them to only serve Him and be blessed above others, then give your everything to Him!! Live Jesus, Give Jesus!! You want them to be taken care of and blessed for generations to come, then give your everything to Him!! Live Jesus, Give Jesus!!

Will they mess up?? Yes!! We read in these generations as the Children of Israel have fallen and not been committed and sinned, made idols, committed adultery , etc. but they have always been brought back and taught, and forgiven. If we want our children and generations blessed, then give your everything to Him!! Live Jesus, Give Jesus!! How are you living Jesus?? How are you giving Jesus?? Are you totally devoted as Joseph was?? When you have a bad day do you react like Joseph did?? When you are walking through a storm in your life do you act as Joseph did?? Do you bring the situation to God or turn away from Him?? Live Jesus, Give Jesus in everything you do! In the good and the bad!! Through good times and bad times! When you feel like it or not!

    Live Jesus – – – Give Jesus!!!

  26. In this chapter there is a lot of speak of borders and splitting of land, which made me think about the borders we place in our own lives. Borders around things that are of importance, and splitting up of our time with the many things that we spend our time on.

Just as the choice to be made on their borders and splitting, we too must take the time to seek Holy Ghost Wisdom to place borders in the the places He choose, and split time and spend it where He knows is best!

  27. “They did not drive the Canaanites out of Gezer, however, so the people of Gezer live as slaves among the people of Ephraim to this day.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭16:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

For the sake of ease and money, they disobeyed God and fell short of what He had for them .Lord help me to not fall short in what you have for me to do.

  28. 10 But they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites live among Ephraim to this day, and they became forced laborers.

There must have been something that attracted the inhabitants of Gezer that they were willing to stay as forced laborers. If we “kill” people in the world with the kindness of Jesus, we can win them to Him and they will become laborers together with us.

  29. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

God wants us to get sin out of our life or it will come back to haunt us later.

  30. “The allotment for the descendants of Joseph extended from the Jordan River near Jericho, east of the springs of Jericho, through the wilderness and into the hill country of Bethel.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭16:1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Every tribe had their own allotment. Even those who were half-tribe. God never leaves us or forsakes is.

  32. 10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

Dont get used to living with sin. The more we let it be with us the more we’re gonna let it stay

  33. Joshua 16:10, “And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.”

We are reminded in Numbers 33 what the Lord commanded Moses to speak to the children of Israel when they came into the land of Canaan (the Promised Land). They were to drive out the inhabitants of the land… and if they didn’t, those that they let remain of them shall be pricks in their eyes and thorns in their sides.
The Ephraimites did not drive out the Canaanites, and we know this causes problems for them later.

Just like sin. God wants us to get rid of all sin in our life, because if we don’t, and we allow some to remain with us, it will cause problems for us later. DRIVE IT OUT!!
    REPENT!!

  34. Joshua 16:10

And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

The Canaanites served under tribute to the Ephriamites, which means they recognized the Ephriamites as over them. The Ephriamites were held in an honored position.

    Hallelujah!!

Praise be to God for looking out for us, no matter how big or small we may be!!

  35. everybody needs a chance to hear God and experience the church, because if we don’t then we wont have a chance to save anybody from their future in hell and not with Christ.

  36. The borders of their inheritance…. Our borders are far beyond what we could ever imagine, but only we can set the boundaries. Through o obedience we are able to go further and live more abundantly and are not bond to a limit. He continues to grow us only when we allow him to.

  37. So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

When you go back and read in the Bible you can see they took their inheritance. Jacob wanted the birth right so he figured out a way to take it. When we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost we receive power and have dominion over the enemy and when the enemy tries to take control we have to TAKE authority and rebuke him. Remember you have power to take.

  38. The Israelites made the Canaanites slaves rather than wiping them out. Perhaps the Israelites believed putting these people into forced labor was more beneficial than destroying them. However, it is clear from Judges 2 that this decision was part of Israel’s disobedience that led to additional problems.
Sometime, we tend to hold on to thing then letting go, it’s easier to hold on, then to let go. When God call us, He commands us, to take up our cross and follow Him.

  39. 1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

It would be considered to be favorable that your lot fell by water. This would be continual provision for you and your animals. This Also a avenue of finances as folks would pass through the land they would come to drink and they would sell their access to the waters. God knows what he is doing. We are blessed.

  40. Dont give your blessing away…

10 And they drave not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell among the Ephraimites unto this day, and serve under tribute.

It may seem like just a small thing and well now they have some labor out of this people. However, back in the book of number the commands were to drive out all the inhabitants of the land, destroy all their pictures, destroy all their molten images, and take down all their high places.

What happened to that? The Lord had already said that “for I have given the you the land to posses it.”
Will you give the enemy a little bit if your blessings? Will you give him a little bit of your land? Will you give satan a little bit of what God said it’s yours? If so you must feel more generous than God. Remember God will not do what we can do. And he will not force his way on us, or violate our will. Rather He gives you the opportunity to obey and in that step of faith, because it takes faith to obey l, He does what you cannot. He provides miraculously, he takes down enemies, he makes a way… yet we must be willing to act and obey.

We may not see it now, but what headaches and or heartaches will you be saving yourself and your future generations by simply obeying and getting rid of what God said. Dont give an yard of your promise land to the devil. Dont give him a square foot, not even an inch. If God said it’s yours then it’s yours and yours alone. Simply obey drive out and take possession and let God take care of what’s to come.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye are passed over Jordan into the land of Canaan; Then ye shall drive out all the inhabitants of the land from before you, and destroy all their pictures, and destroy all their molten images, and quite pluck down all their high places: And ye shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land, and dwell therein: for I have given you the land to possess it.
    Numbers 33:51‭-‬53 KJV

    Partial obedience is disobedience…

  41. 1 And the lot of the children of Joseph fell from Jordan by Jericho, unto the water of Jericho on the east, to the wilderness that goeth up from Jericho throughout mount Bethel,

    From Jericho through mount Bethel

Jericho Was the first city theIsraelites invaded with Joshua.

Bethel was where Jacob dreamt of seeing angels and God, and which he therefore named Bethel, “House of God.”

This one verse references the first invasion and the house of God. There will always be territory to conquer from invasion of the enemy camp to get to the house if God as we conquer it it becomes our spoil to divide.

Keep fighting your family, life, and church are worth fighting for.

  42. Borders , sometimes we forget what boundaries are for, maybe to keep the bad out and keep the good in or maybe to keep the bad in and keep the good out…..however it is up to us to decide which way we want them to work…….. for the good of those that love GOD…….

    • 8 The border went out from Tappuah westward unto the river Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim by their families.

  43. “They did not drive the Canaanites out of Gezer, however, so the people of Gezer live as slaves among the people of Ephraim to this day.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭16:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There are things that we must drive out of our lives and if we don’t, we become slaves of things that we should out drive out to be completely free of them.

  44. “So the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭16:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

They took the land that was theirs. I hen something is taken, it is forceful. This means they had to show their authority over those that were already inhabiting the land when they decided it as their land.

  45. Separation for inheritance

    Joshua 16:9 KJV
[9] And the separate cities for the children of Ephraim were among the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.
