Joshua 17

There was also a lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the firstborn of Joseph; to wit, for Machir the firstborn of Manasseh, the father of Gilead: because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.

But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The Lordcommanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the Lord he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;

Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.

And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.

Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;

And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:

10 Southward it was Ephraim’s, and northward it was Manasseh’s, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east.

11 And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.

12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out.

14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?

15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

  1. 18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

But my God shall supply all of your needs according to his riches and Glory he owns the cattle on a thousand hills. I’ve come across so many people that complain about lack of food or resources but God has created enough of all that in this world to take care of his people. Notice that God did not cut down the trees for them nor did he drive out the Canaanites without the Israelites having to fight but it was theirs for the taking. All they had to do is put in the work. God will lay things out for us and even though it may be difficult that we have to work for it he is still our provider

  2. 16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

Boom! No excuses! Iron chariots or not, the tribe of Joseph got their leaders blessing to take the land. As long as they go obediently God has already proved He will be with them!
What all can we SEIZE FOR THE KINGDOM if we go obediently? No excuses?

  3. Verses 17-18 CEV “Your tribes do have a lot of people,” Joshua admitted. “I’ll give you more land. Your tribes are powerful, so you can have the rest of the hill country, but it’s a forest, and you’ll have to cut down the trees and clear the land. You can also have Jezreel Valley. Even though the Canaanites there are strong and have iron chariots, you can force them to leave the valley.” Trying to hold onto things (sins) that are left in your life and trying to coincide them with what God wants you to have, doesn’t work. You have to rid yourself of that big huge form of sin in your life and force it out once and for all, in order to obtain what God has fully given you already.

  4. 14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?

Even now some children fight if one gets more inheritance than the other. I like Joshua’s answer, if you want more go up the mountain, clean the land, unite with Ephraim and Manasseh and take the Canaanite out!!! That show is that there is nothing we can not accomplish if only we unite!!! In unity there is power even today!!! So rejoice when your brother or sister gets a blessing, even when it’s bigger than your because our God is a righteous and just God and if He blessed them yours is in the making!!! Rejoice and unite with them in worship and in prayer!!!! In Jesus Name!!!

  5. 16And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel. 17And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only: 18But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

Because the tribes of Manasseh, Joseph, and Ephraim did not drive out the canaanites they were short on the lot of their inheritance. I find that when you have more than God in your lives, you are always trying to scratch for more of one thing or another. Usually it is everything except God. But when you sell out to God, you will find that God will provide everything you will ever need. His provision is sufficient for all who will serve the kingdom of God. Again we can not serve two masters In this race that we are running. Live Jesus to give Jesus.

  6. We serve one God. Obedience is the key. God has a plan for us and it’s well thought out! He is the best. Remember you have not because you ask not.

  7. 17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:
18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

There’s no reason to settle when we have the power within us to overcome. The Lord is mighty in battle and when we are faithful, He is fighting for us!

  8. Joshua 17
16 The people of Joseph replied, “The hill country is not enough for us, and all the Canaanites who live in the plain have chariots fitted with iron, both those in Beth Shan and its settlements and those in the Valley of Jezreel.”

17 But Joshua said to the tribes of Joseph—to Ephraim and Manasseh—“You are numerous and very powerful. You will have not only one allotment 18 but the forested hill country as well. Clear it, and its farthest limits will be yours; though the Canaanites have chariots fitted with iron and though they are strong, you can drive them out.”

    But I Can’t!

It’s time to quit looking at all the obstacles we see that causes us to say ;”but I can’t “. I heard someone recently talking about balance and how to have time for this and that . The conversation was something like I have a new baby but I can’t. But I can’t I don’t have enough time , but I can’t I’ve never done this before . The other person speaking to the younger looked at them and said back in her days they never talked about balance . They just did what needed to be done and kept doing what needed to be done.
Joseph”s clan had strength and were powerful they just didn’t like the fact if they were going to take the land it was calling for work !
But I can’t! Yes you can . Can’t never could and Wait broke the wagon yep spelled wrong . It’s time to take the land of Fort Worth. It’s time to clear the land and yes it will take work and time. How beautiful to weave your life into the work for the Kingdom.
Not just as a job or position . You can tear down the forest the obstacles I am sure there is someone waiting just for you. Who knows who is lost in the Forest. Get rid of But I Can’t. Grab your Acts and your 2:38 and get to clearing the forest . You are strong and bold !
    Live Jesus
    Give Jesus

  9. Joshua 18:14 [Amp] The tribe of Joseph spoke to Joshua, saying, Why have you given [ us] but one lot and one portion as an inheritance when [ we] are a great [ abundant ] people , for until now the Lord has blessed [ us] ?
We are blessed , But we are still going to have to work for it. I bless you in the name of Jesus Christ.

  10. 12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
13 Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute, but did not utterly drive them out.

They could have destroyed the Canaanites when they were strong enough, yet chose again the have them as servants. We know it wasn’t God’s will -it was a compromise. We do not fully receive the blessings of God when we take short cuts in living for him.

  11. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    GO GET IT

15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

One of my favorite principals or factors about The Kingdom of GOD is the Liberty or Freedom that we are privileged. We witness in verse 15 that the people were granted Liberty to GO GET IT. GO get more land if you want IT.

    Translated to 2020:

If you want more power the PRAY more.
If you want more knowledge STUDY the WORD of GOD more.
If you want more influence WIN more souls.
If you want more money GIVE more.
If you want more peace LIVE more.
If you want more faith BELIEVE more.

The apostle Paul affirmed this Kingdom Power Principal:

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

We can possess IT if we want IT.

  12. 15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

Collectively as a body the Israelites had overtaken many cities and those lands were divided among them as their inheritance. Yet Joshua needed more space for the number of people in his tribe, so he was given land that there had to be work down before they could possess it.

As a corporate body of believers we obtain many victories because one can put a thousand to flight, but two ten thousands, but there are some victories that we have to win on a personal level. We have to do the work, make the sacrifices etc. If every victory is handed to us, we will never learn how to fight on our own, or rejoice in our accomplishments or worse never believe that we can accomplish and win victories on our own.

  13. 15. And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

    18. But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

It all boils down to one word: WORK

  14. iLove the Lord
12 Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

As I read this scripture, my mind thought, “Why couldn’t they drive out the Canaanites?” Then I thought, “They should have been able” then my mind thought, “Maybe it was their unbelief” then I started thinking, “Why judge these folks when we pray for demonic possessed people and the devil doesn’t leave.” Whoa…hey, now we can understand something that reaches home today where we live. How can we judge these folks for not driving the Canaanites out the land when we cannot drive the devil out of a person (who wants to be delivered).

    Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

  15. “And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Beth–shean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel. And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only: But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭17:16-18‬ ‭KJV‬‬

You want more …. It comes with a price. But Joshua believed in them and gave them a word.

  16. “The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the Lord has blessed us with so many people?” Joshua replied, “If there are so many of you, and if the hill country of Ephraim is not large enough for you, clear out land for yourselves in the forest where the Perizzites and Rephaites live.” The descendants of Joseph responded, “It’s true that the hill country is not large enough for us. But all the Canaanites in the lowlands have iron chariots, both those in Beth-shan and its surrounding settlements and those in the valley of Jezreel. They are too strong for us.” Then Joshua said to the tribes of Ephraim and Manasseh, the descendants of Joseph, “Since you are so large and strong, you will be given more than one portion. The forests of the hill country will be yours as well. Clear as much of the land as you wish, and take possession of its farthest corners. And you will drive out the Canaanites from the valleys, too, even though they are strong and have iron chariots.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭17:14-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Attitude has a lot to do in this verses
if we desire more of something, the first thing to do is to be a faithful as we can where we are. Or where the Lord put us to serve.

  17. 14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?

Why is it that some people are never content with what they have?! Ephraim and Manasseh could have appreciated this inheritance but instead they thought they could compromise with the enemy and end up on top. But instead their compromising led them to bondage. There are no if’s, ands, or but’s when it comes to God. Appreciate all that He has given us. We serve a good God that handles things for us but loves us enough to show us how to work for it.

  18. Joshua told them, that by their own confession they were very numerous, and consequently of great power, and therefore need not be straitened in their habitations. Thou shalt not have one lot only, but God will bless and give thee more then you can expect. Our God is awesome and he is always ready to give you more if you are willing to take it.

  19. The descendants of Joseph wanted more land. The Israelites have been used to God providing everything for them. Joshua told Joseph’s descendants to take the forest of the hill. They must go out and work for it. In this life we must work for what we want. We must work also to be a good steward of God.

  20. CANAANITES STILL IN THE LAND WERE A WITNESS TO THE FAILURE OF THE JEWS TO ACCOMPLISH GOD’S WILL. They may have failed
CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE AN INSTANCE OF THE MIXED CONDITION OF HUMAN SOCIETY

CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE AN EXAMPLE OF A COMMON CAUSE OF NATIONAL WEAKNESS

CANAANITES REMAINING IN THE LAND WERE A TYPE OF SINS REMAINING IN THE HEART OF THE CHRISTIAN

  21. Joshua 17:17-18
    17) And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:
    18) But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

POFW is a great people and have great power. God is going to let us have more than one lot, BUT it’s going to take WORK. Once we are done, the outings (the regions around about us) shall be ours too.

  22. 16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

BUT OUR GOD IS STRONGER AND HE’S
    A ON TIME GOD !!!!!

  23. Joshua17:17-18

17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

Joshua told Joseph’s house to be content with what they were given. And if they wanted more land, then they were to drive out the Canaanites that inhabited the valleys.

It looks like to me that Joshua was telling them to trust in the LORD as before to drive out the Canaanites. Even though the Canaanites had iron chariots and were strong, the LORD was still on the side of Israel. They needed to quit complaining and claim their inheritance.

How often do we, as children of God, complain that the Lord God has not given us enough time, money, or Spiritual gifts, when He has given us more than enough to meet our needs?

    Hallelujah!!

Thank you Lord God for your provision to us. Please help us to be content with the gifts we have been given and be willing to work for the increase, whether it be time to work, monetary, or Spiritual gifts. Thank you for what you have given us.

    In Jesus name. Amen.

  24. 17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:

18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

Thou are a great people and has great power.
Sometimes we all need a little reminder and a word of encouragement of who we are. From this I got that we need to encourage one another. We all go through struggles. My struggles may not be the same as yours. Yet we still are the children of God. And we must remind each other what the Word, the truth, Jesus, says about us.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Do not grow weary and well doing

  25. And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force

If you want something then you have to take by force you cant let the enemy talk you talk you out of your blessing. It’s time to get violent there is 2.054 million people in the county its time to get busy from God it time to go and take this city time to go take our schools, homes back in the name of Jesus.

  26. 15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.

    You better believe it.
When they were charged to go fourth and cease it Joshua seen the people. When he spoke and told them they were mighty he was professing something great. Then it was followed with blessing. So they take the charge, they’re recognized, and then they’re blessed. Wow! When were charged in the Holy Ghost just do it, God will see it then you will be blessed through obedience.

  27. 16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

When you are expecting more, you must be willing to do more. There are times when we have to push a little harder if we want to see everything God has for us. Lazy people don’t receive the blessing. Entitled people don’t receive the blessing. You must we willing to do what it takes to get everything God has for you. Your blessing is just one more push away.

  28. Build or bust

15 And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee

No one can do it for you. You have to build your own life. You have to do your own work. Even Adam had to dress the garden even before the first sin. We can’t blame anyone if we don’t get up and work for what we desire. So go get it if you want it. Great people that achieve the most in this world or in the Kindgom of god are self motivators. All we need is an opportunity. Just show me the mountain and I’ll cut the wood.

  29. There was an inheritance for all. Just as the promised Holy Ghost is for us all. We are able to inherit Heaven as our reward because God came in the likeness of sinful flesh to save us all.

  30. 16 And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.

Name it and claim it in the Name of Jesus!!!

  31. 5 And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
6 Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh’s sons had the land of Gilead.

Thank you Jesus for my inheritance.

  32. 14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?

We complain because we are in the same problems, or same situations, or we feel as though we don’t have as much as we feel we should. But if we are a great people, if we are a mighty group of people, we should take what is ours. We should take what is promised to us. We are great and we are mighty with God on our side and once he has promised us something great it is ours for the taking. God has promised us Fort Worth and we are a great people. The city is ours for the taking. We just all need to unify and work and push!

  33. 18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

It’s yours but your gonna have to fight for it.

There were stages in the development of David’s life that had to come to pass before he could take the throne as the rightful king.
    Y
You see gDavid couldn’t have just any sword made for him. The sword David was going to carry had to have meaning. David smote the philistines time and time again. They were scared of him, because he carried there champions sword.

When you have a calling , all your trouble was There to help you become who God wanted you to become.

  34. 14The descendants of Joseph came to Joshua and asked, “Why have you given us only one portion of land as our homeland when the LORD has blessed us with so many people?”

If you ask, you shall receive. Don’t demand, or the answer will probably be no. But you ask with kindness, you’ll be blessed.

  35. “And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth–shean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries. Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land. Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭17:11-13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

When God gives us a promise and we can’t fully drive the sin out of that area, we have to live with it. It may be subdued, but not driven out. If you want to fullness of your promise, you must fully drive out sin so that it knows it is not welcome there anymore.

  36. 14 And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the Lord hath blessed me hitherto?

Be a go getter… Always be greatful for what you have or receive but always want more. Sometimes we are given opportunities to grow but we have to be willing to earn it fight for it or retrieve it.

  37. 17 And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:
18 But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

You boasted about how great people you are, GO!!! You can do this!!! You can have what you want, but it will come at a price!!! Not EVERYTHING is just given to us!!! Sometimes we have to work, fight and or wait for it!!! Everything has a process, sometimes there process is harder than others
