Joshua 20

The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime.

And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

  1. 1The LORD also spake unto Joshua, saying, 2Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

Just like when Joshua spake unto the children of Israel to appoint cities of refuge, we too have a refuge of protection in the city of God. God himself is a city of hope where there seemeth to be no hope. I find my Bible states that God is a strong tower for the righteous to run into and be safe. He is a very present help in the time of trouble. He is the way we can boldly come before throne of grace and mercy that we may obtain mercy in the time of need.

No matter the circumstances and No matter the problems that you face you have a god that will hear your very cry for help. Our safe place is at the altar on our knees seeking the face of God. That is where no one or nothing can get close to us. David knew what exactly what God was when he penned the 91 psalm.

He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most high shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. That’s where we have to be to be safe.

    Live Jesus to give Jesus!

  2. Verses 1-2 CEV “One day the Lord told Joshua: When Moses was still alive, I had him tell the Israelites about the Safe Towns. Now you tell them that it is time to set up these towns.” Same verses ERV “Then the Lord said to Joshua: “Through Moses, I told you to choose some cities to be cities of safety.” The time is now to set up these towns/cities of safety. The church has been known as the hospital to many, a place of peacel, a place to receive comfort, a place to receive protection and healing in Jesus’ name. Proverbs 18:10 MSG says “God’s name is a place of protection—good people can run there and be safe.”

  3. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

    SHELTER,PROTECTION,SAFETY,SECURITY,ASYLUM,SANCTUARY,PRESERVATION,SAFE KEEPING.

    That’s the place to be!

  4. 2. Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

    Psalm 61:
    1. Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer.
    2. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
    3. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy.

    When clouds of doubt
    Hover over me
    Storms of life
    Toss me to and fro
There is a place I can go
    He’s the shield
    From every tempest
    He’s an anchor
    That is sure
    In times like these
    It’s good to know

    God is my refuge
    A strong and mighty tower
That I can run in to
    God is my refuge
    Without Him
    What would I do

  5. 1 The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
God made those cities a safe place for others so that everybody had a chance come judgement day. He appointed the elders, and made sure they had an understanding of judgement day.

  6. Joshua 20 : 1-2 [Amp] The Lord said also to Joshua,
[2] Say to the Israelites, Appoint among you cities of refuge, of which I spoke to you through Moses.
Psalm 25:5] For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; in the secret place of His tent will hide me; He will st me high upon the rock.
Psalm 37 :39 ] But the salvation of the
[ consistently] righteous is the Lord; He is their Refuge and secure Stronghold in the time of trouble.
God is our Refuge and Protecter , Thank you Jesus for the blood.

  7. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

Our God is a God of redemption. Thank You Jesus for being our refuge and strength in times of need!

  8. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
Psalm 46:1 God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

I don’t need anything but Jesus! He is my ALL IN ALL!!!

  9. Joshua 20
4 When they flee to one of these cities, they are to stand in the entrance of the city gate and state their case before the elders of that city. Then the elders are to admit the fugitive into their city and provide a place to live among them. 5 If the avenger of blood comes in pursuit, the elders must not surrender the fugitive, because the fugitive killed their neighbor unintentionally and without malice aforethought.

    State Your Case
The was a place of refuge to state their case. Too many times people have conflicts or misunderstandings take place. Instead of running from the church they need to run to the church. Too many times pride and shame causes someone to run the wrong direction. If you bite here the elders were set there to protect. Unintentional occurrences can happen. Don’t run from God run to Him . The elders of a church are set in place for your protection. Don’t be afraid and date your case. There is nothing too big or even small. The name of the Lord is a strong tower and the righteous run into it and are safe! There is a city of refuge and it is called the church of the living God . Meet with the Lord meet with the elders meet with the pastor . State your case. God equipped the church with these men to assist in listening and encouraging and for protection.
Thank God . We can live Jesus do we can give Jesus.
The world runs everywhere for help. It’s time to realize our help comes from the Lord. and those set in place to assist.

“Oh, that I knew where I might find him, that I might come even to his seat! I would lay my case before him and fill my mouth with arguments.” Job 23:3-4

  10. 2. Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

The Lord is my refuge and my strength.
    My strong hold for sure!
Like the preacher said last weekend, God can fix our mess, turn it around even when we’ve messed it up.
What a privilege to be a child of God!

  11. Joshua Chapter 20. In this chapter, God told Joshua to speak to the Israelites about the towns that were to be designated as places of refuge. … These refuge towns were to be a place where someone could flee if they had unintentionally or accidentally killed a person so they could be protected from vengeance.

  12. 1 The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,
2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

God has always had a place of refuge for his people. I’ve heard a lot of people speculate that the god of the old testament was much harsher and dealt out judgement more than the god of the New testament as if there was some type of distinction between the two. But countless times we see Mercy being poured out onto the people all throughout the old testament and this being one of them. God is Always Ben graceful and willing to have refuge can redemption for his people.

  13. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

God is our refuge in the time of trouble. When can go to him whenever we need help. In him we will find rest. Because of the greatness of our God, we have no reason to fear. Through him we are able to do all things. He is the lifter of our head.

  14. He is my place of refuge!

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

“The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭9:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭91:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭48:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  15. I’m thankful to have my home and my church as places of refuge where I can bask in the presence of the Lord and he can wrap his arms around me

  16. 1 The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

God is our refuge, which means he gives us everything he gives us protection, shelter, and protects us from trouble. Whenever you find yourself in a position and you don’t know what to do call to him he’s always there.

  17. 20:9 these were the cities appointed for all the cities of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourner among them
That whosoever killer any person, at unaware ness might flee thither and not die by the hand of the avenger of the blood, , until he stood before the congregation.

  18. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    MY REFUGE

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

This is a powerful principal for the New Testament believer. Because we have an High Priest for eternity and we are sheltered and covered by HIS Blood. This is how JESUS can take us in as sinners and keep us from eternal judgment until the Day of Judgment where King JESUS and HIS Word will judge us.

We come to JESUS guilty of sin and without the Blood of JESUS we would have no protection or safe place to rest. But we can sing as David sang in:

2Samuel 22:3 The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

    The psalmist in chapter 46

Psalm 46:1 To the chief Musician for the sons of Korah, A Song upon Alamoth. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

    My REFUGE =

Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust.
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
    5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked.
    9 Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation;
10 There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

Everybody say BLESSED. When we choose to serve JESUS we are covered and protected.

  19. iLove the Lord Jesus Christ
As I read this short chapter, I can’t help but think of the world we live in today and how at contrast it is with these scriptures of grace and mercy. Think about it. When you read the news, you hear of accidental deaths all the time. Like the grandad who accidentally dropped his granddaughter off a windowsill on a cruise ship. The granddaughter died, but the man was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Most time when accidents occur, the news will add the following statement that authorities are investigating and charges are pending. Whatever happened to grace and mercy. Even here in the Old Testament folks who accidentally killed someone had the chance to run to a city of refuge.

As the church, let’s not run so fast to convict folk. The church is a city of refuge here in this dark world.

  20. “But the slayer must stay in that city and be tried by the local assembly, which will render a judgment. And he must continue to live in that city until the death of the high priest who was in office at the time of the accident. After that, he is free to return to his own home in the town from which he fled.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭20:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
It crazy how America has adapted these kinds of laws to justice. People argue that America was not written on biblical values. Fair trial, in concert til proven. Etc.

  21. Christ is a refuge for Jews and Gentiles, for all sinners that flee to him: he will receive and take them in his arms and forgive their sin and cleanse them.

  22. 7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

We all have been appointed and assigned a place in the Kingdom. Some are in the wilderness, some are in the mountains and others in the plains. We have to be content and have Faith in the Will of God for His purpose of our placement, even when we don’t agree with it.

Phil 4:11-13 “Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

  23. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

A place if refuge where people could find safety until the time of judgement. Isn’t that just like the Church? A place where people who are hurting and dredged in sin can come and be safe until reckoning day with our Creator. We must do our part to create and keep the Church that place of refuge for those seeking the refuge and strength of our Savior.

  24. 4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

Thank God he made provision for the accidental death until the matter could come before the congregation for judgement. And thank God we have a refuge to run to also-the church! We are guilty of being born in sin and have had plenty of opportunity to add to it but thank God for the blood that washes white as snow! We have a merciful and loving God who died for all the sins of the world and we have a safe place-the church- to dwell till he returns to judge.

  25. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

God appointed places of refuge from the beginning. He know that mankind would need a way out of situations that would sometimes be out of their control. I am thankful that HE is my place of refuge in times of trouble. I am also thankful that the church can be a place of refuge for us as well. When we are able to make it to the House of God we have made it to our place of safety yet there are times in life that we cannot physically make it to the church building yet we have the Holy Ghost inside of us that is able to take of spiritually, mentally, and emotionally to a place of refuge when the storms rage within.

  26. 4 And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them.

God knows that accidents and innocent mistakes can happen to people. I mean what if someone had a peanut allergy and their dinner host made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. Yes, I know this is far fetched but if someone goes into anaphylaxis what can they do? It’s not like they had Epi pens back then. They didn’t have the medical advancements we have today. So yes, their are multiple scenarios in which accidental deaths can occur. If someone is accused of poisoning and murdering someone over making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich that would be devastating. Innocent blood would be upon Israel’s hands and that angers God.

This is why God designated a city of refuge for his people not to be persecuted out of ignorance. They are to appeal to the priest and their testimony be heard so that they make seek God for guidance. In a moment when we do not know how to understand a matter, it is always best to take our case before the Lord and the man of God. Wise words I’ve heard are “Don’t believe everything you hear and half of what you see.” If we don’t understand something the worst thing can do is to make assumptions or judge a person. Feelings can be deceptive and misleading. Let God reveal the truth.

  27. 9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

One of the first judicial systems put in place. Where one could run to from accidentally killing someone and they would be safe from those wanting revenge. You could run to this place and wait until you could go before a judge and a jury. Because accidents do happen, but in grief the afflicted family and friends do not always think straight. This is beneficial to both parties. One side is kept safe from being murdered. The other side is protected from once it happens the realization and guilt that they would then have to live through. When we cannot figure it out, he can tell us plain as day what we need to put in the works and put in place to help.

Now God said to put it in place and the children of Israel did. How many things do we know we need to do to better the church, but we are too lazy to do?? What things in our church or our ministries do we know we need? What things has God or someone else told us will help the ministry, but it seems like too much, so we put it by the wayside?? What can we do and not put aside to better the Kingdom?

  28. Joshua 20:2, 6, 9
    2) Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spoke unto you by the hand of Moses:

    6) And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days:…

    9) These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them,…

Our “city of refuge” today is the Church. It’s the place that saints and sinners alike can go to find refuge, shelter, safety, and protection in JESUS. AND the only way we can stay sheltered, safe, and protected, is by staying in Church.

  29. ““Now tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed Moses. Anyone who kills another person accidentally and unintentionally can run to one of these cities; they will be places of refuge from relatives seeking revenge for the person who was killed. “Upon reaching one of these cities, the one who caused the death will appear before the elders at the city gate and present his case. They must allow him to enter the city and give him a place to live among them. If the relatives of the victim come to avenge the killing, the leaders must not release the slayer to them, for he killed the other person unintentionally and without previous hostility. But the slayer must stay in that city and be tried by the local assembly, which will render a judgment. And he must continue to live in that city until the death of the high priest who was in office at the time of the accident. After that, he is free to return to his own home in the town from which he fled.””
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭20:2-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

So thankful that God is my Refuge and Strength. I know that I can call to Him and he will answer. I can hide under the shadows of His wings.

“Because you have made the Lord your refuge, and the Most High your dwelling place, [Ps. 91:1, 14.] There shall no evil befall you, nor any plague or calamity come near your tent. For He will give His angels [especial] charge over you to accompany and defend and preserve you in all your ways [of obedience and service]. They shall bear you up on their hands, lest you dash your foot against a stone. [Luke 4:10, 11; Heb. 1:14.] You shall tread upon the lion and adder; the young lion and the serpent shall you trample underfoot. [Luke 10:19.] Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore will I deliver him; I will set him on high, because he knows and understands My name [has a personal knowledge of My mercy, love, and kindness–trusts and relies on Me, knowing I will never forsake him, no, never]. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:9-16‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  30. 6But the slayer must stay in that city and be tried by the local assembly, which will render a judgment. And he must continue to live in that city until the death of the high priest who was in office at the time of the accident. After that, he is free to return to his own home in the town from which he fled.”

Even back then the accused had rights. We thank God, we live in a country in which you are innocent until proven guilty. In other countries it’s the opposite. Treat friends, family and your children innocent until guilty.

  31. 7 And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.

8 And on the other side Jordan by Jericho eastward, they assigned Bezer in the wilderness upon the plain out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bashan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation

  32. Joshua 20:1 The Lord spake unto Joshua saying,
20:2 Speak the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
20:3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.
20:9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger fo blood, until he stood before the congregation.

God was helping to set out rules for Israel. Suppose to be innocent until proven guilty. We have our judicial system today that stems from the times of Moses and Joshua. God gave them city of refuges, and we have our refuge today with our church.

  33. “Speak to the Israelites, saying, ‘Designate the cities of refuge (asylum), of which I spoke to you through Moses, so that the person (manslayer) who kills any person unintentionally, without premeditation, may flee there, and they shall be your refuge from the blood avenger.
    Joshua 20:2‭-‬3 AMP

    This is AMAZING!

Reminds me of an old song back in 1997.
‘GOD is my refuge and strength, my refuge and strength, my refuge in times of trouble…and He will hide me under a rock(Jesus)×2 safe and in time of trouble!’
Our homes need to be a place where people can run to in order to find refuge and strength in Him!

God is our refuge and strength [mighty and impenetrable], A very present and well-proved help in trouble.
    Psalms 46:1 AMP

  34. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

The day is coming where Pastor and pastors wives are going to be appointed. That day is coming right around corner folks. It’s crucial we pay close attention to the instruction and wisdom we get from our Pastor because it will help. Be ready

  35. 2Now tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed Moses.
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭20:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In this scripture, God comforts the Israelites and shelters them through troubles ,He wraps us with his arms and well love us. When we feel loss and in need of the Lord’s comfort we just need to surrender ourselves to him and give our all and God will wrap us in his arm with a warmth present and will be our everything.

  36. 9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

    Proverbs 14:26
In the fear of the Lord one has strong confidence,
and his children will have a refuge.

What a blessed assurance to know that God is a refuge and strong tower in our time of despair!

  37. Joshua 20:1-9

God appointed these places of refuge in the land of Israel. The cities were all evenly spread through out the land and were available to all that were in need of refuge and safety. Sometimes we too might find ourselves at a time in our life where we must seek to retreat to a place of refuge. We ought to especially know as children of God that we aren’t exempt from troubles mentioned in this chapter these things apply to us all. But God reminds me and us all that He has provided a place of refuge for us when things seem to go wrong in our lives, and in the end Jesus is our Rock of refuge and as long as we are following Him, we will always be sheltered from the storms of life that we have to go through. He is our refuge and strong tower.

  38. 1 Then the Lord said to Joshua:
    Joshua 20:1 NIV
2 “Tell the Israelites to designate the cities of refuge, as I instructed you through Moses,

    Joshua 20:2 NIV
    https://joshua.bible/joshua-20-2

1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
    Psalms 46:1 NIV
    https://psalm.bible/psalm 46:1-2.

The Lord is our refuge, he is our strength, our light of the world he is our everything. It says here in Psalms 46:2 we shall not fear for he is with us. God is telling us he is our refuge we shall not fear no evil we shall be strong for he is our strength and our light.

  39. The Lord gave the people a way out. When someone sins and kills someone there was cities they could run to. There was a safe place to go.
Jesus is our safe place. He forgives and washes our sins away but we have to come to him for his help, protection.
There is a safe place in the Lord that we can and must run to.

  40. Joshua 20:6

And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgement, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he glad.

So, the slayer, after acquitted, had to return to his own house in his own city. I wonder if he still had to face the finger pointers and gossips that we would find in the world today. Or if he would be truly forgiven, like by Jesus.?? What would we do??

    Hallelujah!!

Thank you, Lord God, for Lord Jesus!!!!

  41. 1 The Lord also spake unto Joshua, saying,

2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:

3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

The Lord knew that we would make mistakes so he already had a plan of salvation. Just like from the foundation of the world He already had a plan of salvation, our Lord Jesus.

  42. 6 And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled.

Many people argue about church people being judgmental, but here we are shown that church people are to judge…

  43. 9 These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

They had places of refuge for the sinners to go to until they could be judged. They couldn’t be touched until they had a proper hearing. Jesus is that place today, when we enter into his kingdom we shall be judged but nothing can touch us as long as we abide with him.

  44. The lord is my refuge.

This chapter reminds us that only God can make refuge for us. This is why folks in trouble seem to find more trouble because they look for refuge everywhere but God. There is no where else to turn but Him. I pray my children will understand this before they are grown that way when life comes at them they know where to turn. He is my refuge

  45. This was not a place for malice, but accidents. Yes they may have had a similar outcome, but there was definitely a heart difference. Accidents can be terrible but they don’t mean hat you tried to hurt someone. If God allows for accidents we should be quick to forgive as well.

  46. 3 That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood.

Now that we are in CHRIST we have our refuge in HIM!!! No need to hide anymore, no need to be ashamed!!!

  47. 2 Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses:
So wonderful to k own that God is our refuge at anytime anywhere. Thank you Jesus for your protection and comfort!

  48. “These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭20:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I am so glad that we can run to God and repent for whatever we’ve done wrong. I thank Him for His grace and mercy that we will never deserve but are given to freely. I thank God that He has all power in His hands and wipes our slate clean. I pray we let go of any shame of our past and place it in His hands, repenting with an honest heart.

  49. “These cities were set apart for all the Israelites as well as the foreigners living among them. Anyone who accidentally killed another person could take refuge in one of these cities. In this way, they could escape being killed in revenge prior to standing trial before the local assembly.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭20:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus is our refuge, just like the cities of refuges they were for everyone, same thing we find in Jesus our refuge for everyone in need. Jesus is a easy reach. He protects us from anything when we are under his boundaries of protection.

  50. Judgements

    Joshua 20:9 KJV
[9] These were the cities appointed for all the children of Israel, and for the stranger that sojourneth among them, that whosoever killeth any person at unawares might flee thither, and not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he stood before the congregation.

    Matthew 25:45-46 KJV
[45] Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me. [46] And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.
