Joshua 24

And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.

And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.

And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.

And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:

10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

11 And you went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.

12 And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.

13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.

15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

17 For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:

18 And the Lord drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the Lord; for he is our God.

19 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the Lord: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.

20 If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

21 And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.

22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

23 Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the Lord God of Israel.

24 And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.

26 And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that was by the sanctuary of the Lord.

27 And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the Lord which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.

28 So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

29 And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the Lord, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.

31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.

32 And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.

33 And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.

  1. 7 And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

Who you gonna serve? God or mana?
It’s easy to get caught up in the things of this world if you lose focus to the vision. We obviously serve a strong and courageous god that brings us out and places a hedge around us from our enemies. It’s easy to say I’m gonna serve the Lord when we have great tribulations before us but how long you gonna serve him? Just in this trial or you gonna keep it up when the smoke finally clears. If you can brush your teeth every day it shouldn’t be hard to read the word everyday. If you can get dressed and go to work everyday it shouldn’t be hard to pray everyday. If you can go to work everyday then you shouldn’t have a problem making it to prayer, outreach, and service every week. Who you gonna serve a God of peace and provision or god of war and destruction. Keep the vision clear and set your eyes on the Lord lets serve him diligently

  2. Who do you think you are , you aint got all that on your own . You didn’t do anything. The Lord provided you with everything. Don’t forget him. Don’t worship these other gods there’s only one God and his name is JESUS. Serve him and love him whole heartily

  3. 31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.

Well people are helped to their own accountability and responsible for their own actions… There is such a big difference in the outcome when the leadership is right. Every time Israel had a leader that serve God there was a balance to the children of Israel being taken care of and protected and following God. But every time their leadership failed them, they failed God. We have to be careful how and who we are leaving because God will hold each leader at a higher standard. The book of James tells us not to be many Masters because we will receive a greater condemnation. The word Masters is translated to teacher but it can still be compass leaving people in general. This is why God was very peculiar about who led the children of Israel. Leadership and nobility is not a birthright as much as it is a skill defined with integrity

  4. Verses 19-20 MSG “Then Joshua told the people: “You can’t do it; you’re not able to worship God. He is a holy God. He is a jealous God. He won’t put up with your fooling around and sinning. When you leave God and take up the worship of foreign gods, he’ll turn right around and come down on you hard. He’ll put an end to you—and after all the good he has done for you!” When you fool around with sin, you leave God out of the equation and you may think your getting away with it; but, careful because you have left God no choice. But, remember what Pastor Emory said on Wednesday “Yea, and Amen” as verses 23-24 MSG say “Joshua said, “Now get rid of all the foreign gods you have with you. Say an unqualified Yes to God, the God of Israel.” The people answered Joshua, “We will worship God. What he says, we’ll do.”

2 Corinthians 1:20-22 KJV “For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. Now he which stablisheth us with you in Christ, and hath anointed us, is God; Who hath also sealed us, and given the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.”

  5. It is good to remember the miracles that God has done in your life. It is also good to testify of those miracles to everyone you know for it builds your faith and theirs! Never forget what He had brought you out of and ALWAYS GIVE ALL HONOR AND ALL GLORY TO JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR.

  6. Joshua 24:15-18
    15) And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
    16) And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
    17) For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
    18) And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: therefore will we also serve the LORD; for he is our God.

Everyone has a choice to make. Whom will you choose to serve, the “gods” of this world or the One True Living God?
As for me, I choose to serve the One True Living God, Jesus Christ.
HE’s done sooooooo much for me, I cannot tell it all!
    HE IS MY GOD!!

  7. Over and over as for me and my house we will serve the Lord. Do you mean it? You have to. I love the Lord with everything in me, I would be nothing without him, he is my all in all!

  8. 8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

It was the hand of the Lord that allowed the people to have victory over the cities that they took possession of.

We must never mistake the things we accomplish physically and spiritually a work of our own doing. If the Lord wills it will happen, and if He doesn’t will, it won’t. We must be an active participant, but it all rest in the hands of the Lord.

This should keep us humble, knowing that it is nothing within our own doing. I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me.

  9. 15. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
    21. And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the Lord.
    24. And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

It’s a choice that every one of us has to make and live out for ourselves every single day. Every morning we have to choose to serve God THIS day. This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.
Why? Because we have been favored with the knowledge and ability to make the choice to live for the One who made this day, and what a joy it is!

  10. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    I CHOOSE JESUS

14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.
15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

We are daily faced with choices that will build our faith or weaken our faith. A choice and commitment to serve the LORD will be tested time and again over time. Seeing that we are daily faced with these choices. We are wise to make our choice for life.

Joshua challenges Israel to to choose the LORD while he is alive. This commitment before the stone seems to be the final charge of this breakthrough leader of Israel. Following the list of VICTORIES, Joshua brings Israel to a place of commitment.

I pray today that JESUS give us Grace to lead others to this place of commitment to CHOOSE for ME and MY HOUSE we will SERVE the LORD JESUS.

    I CHOOSE JESUS

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive

    iGo

  11. 22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him.

Reminds me of the commitment we make every year in leadership. God has been so good to us, so good to me, there is no reason I should want to serve Him any less than He deserves and asks. Remember your commitments everyday to God and serve Him. He deserves our faithfulness just as He has been faithful to us.

  12. 14Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD. 15And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

I seen the great moves of God and I have seen the healings of people that God performed. I have even seen the dead rose and God moved. I have also seen the sinful nature of man and what it can do for a family and their future. I have been walking with God for sometime and I have fallen a couple of times but I got back up and kept moving. I can actually say that because we are in this world, we don’t have to be of it. We can live a holy and separated life consecrated to God and his kingdom.

As the scripture stated this morning as for me and my house we will serve the lord.

  13. 20 If ye forsake the Lord, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.

  14. 17 For the Lord our God, he it is that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
god will protect us and care because we are his children and will always be taken care of.

  15. Joshua 24:14 [ Amp] Now therefore [ reverently] fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and in truth
out seat the God’s which your father’s served on the other side of the [ Euphrates] River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.
The Lord is a jealous God. He will come first before anything in my life. He is a great and powerful and Holy that I will choose to serve. Let’s Pofw !

  16. 24:10 But I would not hearten unto Balaam
; therefore he blessed you still so I delivered you out of his hands.
    ——
We must know that we know and be 100% confident we are children of God. And that He is for us, not against us.
No matter what lays ahead, no matter who wants to curse our lives, and destroy us.
If God is for me, who can be against me??
    In Jesus name.
Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and he will do.

  17. iLove King Jesus
“The Fatal Flaw of Joshua’s Leadership”
This is the year I got the revelation. Yep, I can’t believe I never caught this before. The revelation (understanding) started coming a couple weeks ago. All the leaders from Adam to Moses gave the leadership reigns to someone under them. All had sons or servants they gave charge when they died. Even Joshua is a servant of Moses, but who is the servant of Joshua? Who is under him? When Joshua dies, he hands leadership of God’s people to absolutely no one. No one steps up and becomes Joshua’s servant when he is alive and no one receives from his hand authority when he dies.

Joshua was a great leader but we will find soon when he dies, there is no leader in Israel and folks will soon start to do what is right in their own eyes. I believe if someone would have become the leader’s right hand man, God would have transferred that leadership to that man. Who are we following and who is following us

  18. 14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord.

There is only one true God and his name is Jesus. All other Gods are false. When you serve the one true living God, your allegiance is to him only. The bible says we serve a jealous God, so you can’t serve two masters. We must continue to look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.

  19. Before Joshua died, he gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shachem and talked to the elders. He told the people how their father’s dwelt on the other side of the flood, how they had served other God’s. How they were led throughout all the land of Canaan, and Abraham had Isaac. Egypt was plagued then Israelites were brought out of Egypt and they walked thru the Red sea while Egyptians followed them and God destroyed them as the sea swallowed them.

24:13 And I have given you a land for which he did not labour, and cities which he built not, and he dwell in them; of the vineyards and olives which ye planted not.
24:14 Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your father’s served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt and serve ye the Lord.
24:23 “All right then” Joshua said, “destroy the idols among you and thru your hearts to the Lord, the God of Israel.

Joshua was showing the Israelites that they must trust in God as God could give them miracles or destroy them. It was their choice to trust the Lord of not.

  20. 7 And when they cried unto the Lord, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.

8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.

9 Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:

10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.

  21. 16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;. We must make a commitment to serve the Lord our God, with all of our heart. Lord help us not to forget about all that you have done for us. Help us to be reminded of what we use to be, and not to go back to our old ways.

  22. 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
This man of God came to a decision, and was now making it public so that others might understand why he had so much success in the Lord. Just like many of us I feel as though he too realized that he couldn’t control what others chose to do, but he knew what he and his family could and would do.
Bottom line choice is a God given ability and we we must exercise it every day who we chose to serve.
…..but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

  23. 15But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”

We each must decide whom we will serve, is it God or Satan. Fathers lead your family to God, your children are under your guardianship. As you lead, they will follow.

  24. 14 “Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord .
15 But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord .”

    Joshua 24:14‭-‬15 NIV
    https://bible.com/bible/111/jos.24.14-15.NIV

Each and everyone one of us have to make a choice in your lives to follow the right path or follow the wrong path. Everyday we must make a choice between following God or not following him. We should always follow him, always include God in our every day lives. There is no other God who can save us but him. So we have to choose to serve Him or not serve Him.

  25. And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

I refuse to allow the things to take your place God. Move in me move through me and around me God. Bring down the false gods in this world and break and chains of addiction and oppression God.

  26. 13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

    16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

In today’s world we must stand boldly and make known who we serve! JESUS .. There’s no other name I know!

    Acts 4:12
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

  27. 31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.

As leaders we are to lead others in a way that long after our years they are still following the word of God. We are to aid God in building a great foundation for them to stand on.

  28. Joshua 24:21-23

The Israelite people made a covenant through Joshua to serve the LORD God. They said they would be responsible for any sin against that covenant with the LORD. Joshua then instructed them to get rid of their idols and listen with all their heart unto what the LORD God had to say.

Those of us who have signed the leadership covenant of the Pentecostals Of Fort Worth are especially required to meet the requirements we have agreed to. The guidelines are set forth by Pastor Watts, as he has been directed by God. We should take them very seriously. We need to be the examples of Christians God has called us to be. And we have agreed to be. In covenant. Sometimes the path is not easy or obvious, but we should try. God is on our side.

    Hallelujah!!

Praises be to the LORD God!!!

  29. Now therefore put away, said he, the strange gods which are among you, and incline your heart unto the Lord God of Israel. And the people said unto Joshua, The Lord our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.”
    ‭‭Joshua‬ ‭24:23-24‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I love the good news and warning in this chapter. Yes, God will fight for you, He will make a way, He will provide for you if you make the choice to serve Him and only Him. You cannot be lukewarm serving God. We have to make sure we are all in and seeking wisdom and guidance through the reading of His word and prayer. I thank God for His faithfulness and pray we continue to serve Him with all of hearts!

  30. What a testimony!

31 And Israel served the Lord all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the Lord, that he had done for Israel.

The entire time that Joshua rules, Israel serv Ed the Lord. You can’t get a better leader than that. It even followed past his death which means that they weren’t doing it for Joshua. Joshua lead them to a place where they were serving the Lord and being led by Joshua. This shows up when Pastor is out of town. You can tell who is serving the Lord and who is just trying to impress the Pastor. There is nothing that the Pastor would be more impressed with than knowing that we serve the Lord with our whole hearts no matter where he is. This is the test of a true leader. Do your people serve you or the Lord?

  31. 13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

    16 And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the Lord, to serve other gods;

God is faithful. One thing we can learn from God is that he is not in whats in it for me kind of attitude to keep and fulfill his promises. He didnt wait or ask the people to serve him or cast out all other idols in order for him to keep is promise and give the children of Israel their land. Yet on the contrary he gave them what he said he would then confronted the people to not go after other gods. He is faithful to His Word whether we are or not. The important thing is that he will deliver, but it is up to one whether or not you continue with the favor of God. If after recieving your promise you turn your back on God, then get can as quickly remove His favor and hand you over to the enemy where you can loos it all.

Most men will proclaim every one his own goodness: but a faithful man who can find?”
    Proverbs 20:6

  32. 13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.

Joshua preaches a message of the history of the children of Israel. My favorite part is where he puts emphasis on the fact that they were given land that has already been worked on that they did not labour in, they were given already built cities that they did not have to build and yet they live in them, and they were given vineyards and olive yards that they eat of but they did not plant and labour in themselves. God will bless us and give possessions that we did not have to work for or labour for. God blesses us more than we deserve sometimes, which is why I like that Joshua hit on it as a reminder that we don’t deserve some things yet God gives to us taking care of us.

22 And Joshua said unto the people, Ye are witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the Lord, to serve him. And they said, We are witnesses.

Our Pastor will hold us accountable to our decisions and our commitments just as Joshua did in the Bible. A true Pastor has your best interest at heart and our best interest is always putting God first in our lives.

  33. Every action has a reaction, thank you Jesus for bringing me out of dark places..

    Joshua 24:6 KJV
[6] And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
