Judges 7

Then Jerubbaal, who is Gideon, and all the people that were with him, rose up early, and pitched beside the well of Harod: so that the host of the Midianites were on the north side of them, by the hill of Moreh, in the valley.

And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.

And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.

And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:

11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

12 And the Midianites and the Amalekites and all the children of the east lay along in the valley like grasshoppers for multitude; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the sea side for multitude.

13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

16 And he divided the three hundred men into three companies, and he put a trumpet in every man’s hand, with empty pitchers, and lamps within the pitchers.

17 And he said unto them, Look on me, and do likewise: and, behold, when I come to the outside of the camp, it shall be that, as I do, so shall ye do.

18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

19 So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands.

20 And the three companies blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers, and held the lamps in their left hands, and the trumpets in their right hands to blow withal: and they cried, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

21 And they stood every man in his place round about the camp; and all the host ran, and cried, and fled.

22 And the three hundred blew the trumpets, and the Lord set every man’s sword against his fellow, even throughout all the host: and the host fled to Bethshittah in Zererath, and to the border of Abelmeholah, unto Tabbath.

23 And the men of Israel gathered themselves together out of Naphtali, and out of Asher, and out of all Manasseh, and pursued after the Midianites.

24 And Gideon sent messengers throughout all mount Ephraim, saying, come down against the Midianites, and take before them the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan. Then all the men of Ephraim gathered themselves together, and took the waters unto Bethbarah and Jordan.

25 And they took two princes of the Midianites, Oreb and Zeeb; and they slew Oreb upon the rock Oreb, and Zeeb they slew at the winepress of Zeeb, and pursued Midian, and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon on the other side Jordan.

  1. With God we don’t need an army, we have the power to go into the enemy’s camp and take back what is ours . And destroy them. Without God we are nothing don’t let us forget we are nothing without God . If God is on our side nothing can come against us. We win

  2. His companion answered, “Your dream can mean only one thing—God has given Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite, victory over Midian and all its allies!” When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he bowed in worship before the Lord . Then he returned to the Israelite camp and shouted, “Get up! For the Lord has given you victory over the Midianite hordes!”
    Judges 7:14‭-‬15 NLT

Thank you Jesus for today , let us boldly do God’s will

  3. By the springs early in the morning will I seek You Lord . You refresh my soul . You equip with strength. As I decrease in your presence You become increased in my life. Leadership takes drinking daily vat the feet of Jesus and being obedient to His commands. God said Gideon had too many men . God had a plan and with Gideon’s submission and leadership the enemy fell !

22 When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the Lord caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords.

Imagine this the enemy was destroyed by their own hands . A proclamation that God was in command . We do not have to take matters in our own hands leave it in God’s hands be obedient and watch the glory of Glory of God!

Seize the day in His presence !
    Follow His Lead !
    Live Give Jesus!

  4. Gideon probably had some thoughts goimg thourgh his head when God was saying sending people home.
I bet he was saying now wait a minute you want me to go fight a battle but you are sending over half my men home that’s not a good plan Lord.
But we must remember he is in control and when we follow him it will all work out.

  5. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

I believe there is unity in those 300 man ready for war. with unity God can deliver a whole city to the church.

  6. 18 When I blow with a trumpet, I and all that are with me, then blow ye the trumpets also on every side of all the camp, and say, The sword of the Lord, and of Gideon.

This reminds me Desert Storm. You see they called it the psychological war for one of the things they did was blast Rock and Roll all day long. A lot of the Muslim soldiers just walked right into the line and turned themselves in by the 100’s because they thought there were too many of us because of the noise day and night. I had also seen it in the Korean War and Vietnam movies, but I thought it was our way of doing things. I now see its biblical. 3 different companies of soldier of 100 each sounding their trumpets making the noise so it sounds like more and instills fear. Fear is the main enemy. It paralyses you, it confuses you, and you lose faith and confidence. You can NOT have VICTORY if you have fear. You can NOT achieve your goals if you have fear. Do not allow fear to steal your JOY!!! Thank you Jesus for your word says 2 Tim 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

  7. 13 And when Gideon was come, behold, there was a man that told a dream unto his fellow, and said, Behold, I dreamed a dream, and, lo, a cake of barley bread tumbled into the host of Midian, and came unto a tent, and smote it that it fell, and overturned it, that the tent lay along.

14 And his fellow answered and said, This is nothing else save the sword of Gideon the son of Joash, a man of Israel: for into his hand hath God delivered Midian, and all the host.

This reminds me of the song: I went to the enemies camp, and I took back what he stole from me! Gideon has been given even greater confidence of going into battle with 300 men. When the odds are against you, you KNOW God is up to something! Combine this with the fleece he put before the Lord, and Gideon knew God could do exactly what he says he will do! My God is able! I place my trials, my worries and struggles in the hand of THE mighty God! I am blessed and highly favored!

  8. We must remember that God always has a plan. And if you stay close to God you will know the plan because you are tapping into his mindset when you pray and read his word. So no matter what the weapon is we win!

  9. 20 Then all three groups blew their horns and broke their jars. They held the blazing torches in their left hands and the horns in their right hands, and they all shouted, “A sword for the Lord and for Gideon!”
21 Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape.
22 When the 300 Israelites blew their rams’ horns, the Lord caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords. Those who were not killed fled to places as far away as Beth-shittah near Zererah and to the border of Abel-meholah near Tabbath.
    Judges 7:20‭-‬22 NLT

Each man had his place and had his purpose. Don’t ever think you don’t have a purpose just because you “blend in” and don’t typically have the opportunity to stand out or lead. There is an order, a plan, and a purpose to what God is doing. Follow where He leads and you will surely be led to victory!

  10. Each man stood at his position around the camp and watched as all the Midianites rushed around in a panic, shouting as they ran to escape. When the 300 Israelites blew their rams’ horns, the Lord caused the warriors in the camp to fight against each other with their swords. This is exactly what the Lord does to our enemies when we put our trust in Him.

  11. 15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

The more we depend on God more he’s going to go out and fight before us. We are meant to fight into battle but we are not meant to do without him the entire reason for the test that narrow them down was to get them to completely depend upon God… As God narrows down things in your life to where you can’t do it without him he will be able to go out and do things you never were able to. Our Help cometh from above

  12. As soon as Gideon heard about the dream and what it meant, he bowed down to praise God. Then he went back to the Israelite camp and shouted, “Let’s go! The Lord is going to let us defeat the Midianite army.” Gideon divided his little army into three groups of 100 men, and he gave each soldier a trumpet and a large clay jar with a burning torch inside. Gideon said, “When we get to the enemy camp, spread out and surround it. Then wait for me to blow a signal on my trumpet. As soon as you hear it, blow your trumpets and shout, ‘Fight for the Lord ! Fight for Gideon!’ ”
    Judges 7:15‭-‬18 CEV

That’s all you need, a spoken word that is on time to activate your FAITH! What the eye can see the mind may not always understand. But, when you take the word of GOD allow it to mix with your faith then you know For nothing shall be impossible with GOD! Allow your ears to hear His voice. Remove all distractions, shut the voices of this world out.

  13. 11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

Gideon waited for the word before he went forth. The lord give Gideon specific in instruction through out this chapter. It really does go to show how when you are obident to his will and to his commandments, how much his favor will be placed upon you.

  14. Judges 7: 3-4 [Amp] So now proclaim in the ears of men, saying, Whoever is fearful trembling, let him turn back and depart from Mount Gildeon. And 22,000 of the men returned, But 10,000 remained.
[4] And the Lord said to Gideon, The men are still too many; bring down to the water, and I will test them for you there. And he of whom I say to you there. This man shall go with you; and he of whom I say to you, shall go with you; and he of whom I say to go with you, This man shall not go with you, shall not go.
Listen to God voice and follow his plan and purpose and he will put everything in place.

  15. 7:21 and they stood every man in his place round about the camp: and all the host ran, and cried and fled.

5 So he brought down the people unto the water: and the Lord said unto Gideon, Every one that lappeth of the water with his tongue, as a dog lappeth, him shalt thou set by himself; likewise every one that boweth down upon his knees to drink.
6 And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.
7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

The Kingdom of GOD is life according to JESUS. We learn from Gideons experience that GOD will fight the battle if we will allow HIM. Gideon led the men to water, but chose the men by their instincts. People may look at us at times and wonder what we did, or how did we get where we are. In fact, I look at myself on occasion in this manner.

I believe with all men and women that are used mightily for GOD, that somewhere in their past in a time of testing and trial. We/They made the right choice before GOD. The ONE factor I see in successful people in our travels, OBEDIENCE.

Gideon obeyed GOD and led to a great VICTORY. GOD chose and prepared. May our instincts be Kingdom focused and our OBEDIENCE be Kingdom driven, that our VICTORIES will be Kingdom Celebrated.

2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

God was like…come on y’all, I need this to be more of me and less of you. God loves to perform miracles that will glorify Him. Lord be glorified, there are cancers that only you can heal, there are blind, broken and lost that only you can save and deliver. Use us Lord and we will give you all the glory.

  18. What’s In Your Hand?

These soldiers defeated and army with a trumpet and pitcher in their hand.
It was the spirit of the Lord that caused the men to fight against themselves, killing themselves.

David killed the giant with just a stone. Samson slew an arm with a jawbone of a donkey.

I believe it was not only what was in there hand, but what was in their heart and mouth. They believed that God would deliver them, and whatever He gave them to fight with (trumpet, pitcher, stone, jawbone) they knew that He was going to guide it and use it win victory over their enemy.

What tools has God given us today to win our battles? His Word is the first thing that comes to mind. Putting into our minds His word everyday allows us to be reminded of what we need at any given moment. The second thing is prayer/communication with Him. If he can speak and the Red Sea stand up on it’s side, or an army can fight against themselves until they destroy each other, then He can give you through prayer and His word what you need to fight your battle.

There’s a table that You’ve prepared for me
In the presence of my enemies
It’s Your body and Your blood You shed for me
This is how I fight my battles

    I believe You’ve overcome
And I will lift my song of praise for what You’ve done

This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles
    This is how

In the valley I know that you’re with me
Surely Your goodness and your mercy follows me
My weapons are praise and thanksgiving
This is how I fight my battles

    I believe You’ve overcome
And I will lift my song of praise for what You’ve done

This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles

It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You
It may look like I’m surrounded but I’m surrounded by You

This is how I fight my battles
This is how I fight my battles

  19. 2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

When the Lord spoke to Gideon, he told him that there was too many to show his power and the people would think they were delivered by their own hand. Sometimes we think we handle every situation with our own choosing but in all it’s God that allows the outcome to be what it is. Many times we want to be in control but it is God that is always in control.

I know that we have to learn humility to be able to allow God to do what he needs to do. We have to get ourselves out of the way so God can work. We need to learn submission and let our faith carry us into every situation that we encounter with trust that God will walk us through it. We have to decrease so that he may increase in our lives. Live Jesus so that we can give Jesus.

  20. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.

God kept downsizing the army Gideon had until there were only three hundred of them all together. If I were Gideon, I would have been getting nervous. I get nervous when you are short handed on teachers and an over abundance of kids in the classroom. Gideon’s situation was life or death.

15 And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the Lord hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian.

However, in times in our life when something looks impossible, we just need that boost of faith. When someone tells us of a dream or a vision they have for our life or of something that in the end will affect our life. Sometimes that’s all we need for that extra boost of faith to see ourselves victorious and be able to do as God has instructed.

  21. There are so many things in this chapter that come to mind; but, God left no doubt of who brought this victory to come to pass. Gideon’s army went from 22,000 to 10,000 to a mere 300 hundred men. The obedience of these men was also key, in that that had to be obedient to their leader, Gideon. They had to submit to his authority and do what he did as he instructed them. Gideon did what God asked and was obedient to His instruction. As we LIVE-GIVE JESUS, obedience is key.

Proverbs 29:18 MSG “If people can’t see what God is doing, they stumble all over themselves; But when they attend to what he reveals, they are most blessed.”

  22. Gideon listened to God and with the 300 men they blew the horns and the men fought against themselves. We may not often understand why God has us do such things. If we trust in the Lord, we will prevail. In reading God’s word this has been shown to us a multitude of times.

  23. 2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

The Lord reduced the number from 32,000 thousand to 300 hundred. This is to remind us that it is by our power, but it is through his power that we obtain victory. The Lord wanted to be sure, that Israel completely understands, that victory belongs to Him.

  24. God tells Gideon to tell all his soldiers who are afraid to go home.

Then Jerubbaal (that is, Gideon) and all the people who were with him rose early and encamped beside the well of Harod, so that the camp of the Midianites was on the north side of them by the hill of Moreh in the valley. And the LORD said to Gideon, “The people who are with you are too many for Me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel claim glory for itself against Me, saying, ‘My own hand has saved me.’” Now therefore, proclaim in the hearing of the people, saying, ‘Whoever is fearful and afraid, let him turn and depart at once from Mount Gilead.’” And twenty-two thousand of the people returned, and ten thousand remained

  25. Judges 7:7, “And the LORD said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand:…”

Gideon started out with an army of 32,000 men, BUT 22,000 of them were afraid and 9,700 of them drank water wrong.
So, how many men does it take to defeat an enemy that looks like a valley full of grasshoppers and camels without number that are like sand by the sea side?
Obviously only a few (300), especially when they are chosen by God and are ready to do what has to be done and when they have the LORD On Their Side!

    Chosen of God
    Ready to Fight
    LORD on Our Side

  26. Judges 7:15-18

Gideon got encouragement from hearing others talk about his mission. It gave him confidence to go back to his assignment and take care of what God had given him to do. He needed someone to go with him to get that encouragement, but it made the difference of failure and success. By the time he got back to his men, he had a plan.

Sometimes each of us needs someone to lean on to help give us support. We should be looking to God, but He knows, sometimes we need human support as well.

    Hallelujah!!

Thanks be to an understanding God!!!

  27. 2 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.

God is the God of the impossible. At times God puts us into impossible situations to help us understand that it’s not by might or by strength. That all we need is God, and we have everything.

    • 3 Now therefore go to, proclaim in the ears of the people, saying, Whosoever is fearful and afraid, let him return and depart early from mount Gilead. And there returned of the people twenty and two thousand; and there remained ten thousand.

The first thing God deals with is fear. Fear is the greatest difference of faith. What God desires to do through His people will require a leave of faith that cancels out all fear. Let us pray and be intentional in all things that pertain to God by walking in faith.

  28. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

God does not need a big number to win the victory. He us able to do it with a few. It’s not in how large the crowd is for God to work, it’s those who are willing to follow God’s instructions. He can work with a small number to proclaim a great victory.

  29. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.
8 So the people took victuals in their hand, and their trumpets: and he sent all the rest of Israel every man unto his tent, and retained those three hundred men: and the host of Midian was beneath him in the valley.
9 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.

Don’t struggle with where God is taking you, or what He is doing. In it all Gideon was used by God to change the course of a nation. I pray that our Lord use us today in whatever place He may need us, large or small.

  30. “The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.””(Judges‬ ‭7:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

There’s nothing impossible that the Lord can’t do to save his children from the hand of the enemy. The Lord is All-powerful if he can use Samson to kill thousand of Philistines with a donkeys jawbone. He can use us to have victory over our giants in our lives.

  31. 9 And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him, Arise, get thee down unto the host; for I have delivered it into thine hand.
10 But if thou fear to go down, go thou with Phurah thy servant down to the host:
11 And thou shalt hear what they say; and afterward shall thine hands be strengthened to go down unto the host. Then went he down with Phurah his servant unto the outside of the armed men that were in the host.

So many people are fearful of what the devil thinks, or what others think , but if they could only hear the fear that the evil spirits are speaking about when they see that The children of God are beginning to grow their faith, we would never again question our abilities through Jesus to accomplish His will.

  32. 4 And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people are yet too many; bring them down unto the water, and I will try them for thee there: and it shall be, that of whom I say unto thee, This shall go with thee, the same shall go with thee; and of whomsoever I say unto thee, This shall not go with thee, the same shall not go.

I have heard many people say, “well god tempted me ” but that is NOT true!!! GOD does not tempt us ,but HE does try us!!! HE is faithful and just!!! HE doesn’t want to see our flaws, HE wants us to see what part or parts needs to be strengthened in us

  33. 13 When Gideon arrived, he heard a man tell his friend about a dream. The man said, ‘I saw a loaf of bread rolling into the Midianite army. It hit a tent hard. The tent fell down’.
14 The friend replied, ‘This must be the work of Gideon, the son of Joash. God has given him power to rule us. He will make us all his slaves’.
15 When Gideon heard this, he thanked God. He returned to the Israelite tents . He shouted, ‘Get up! The Lord will fight Midian for us’.
    Judges 7:13‭-‬15 EASY
    https://bible.com/bible/2079/jdg.7.13-15.EASY

God gave the man a dream a vision to show them that he will defeat them, he will fight for them. Gideon knew that the Lord would fight for them. They all did they were going to win the battle because they had God on there side they had faith that they will not be defeated!
    LIVE GIVE JESUS!

  34. 7 And the Lord said unto Gideon, By the three hundred men that lapped will I save you, and deliver the Midianites into thine hand: and let all the other people go every man unto his place.

    To God be the glory.
Sometimes it seems as though all the odds are against you. Like every chance of success or victory is gone. It may even feel like if your hope is defeated. But God. It is in those moments that God shows up and shows out. That way we are reminded that He is still who He says he is. No man can take the glory when it is out of man’s hands, meaning, where there is no way or nothing a human can do. That way we are giving Him the glory .

  35. “And the Lord said unto Gideon, The people that are with thee are too many for me to give the Midianites into their hands, lest Israel vaunt themselves against me, saying, Mine own hand hath saved me.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭7:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I wonder how many times God has had to strip things away in our own lives to ensure he would get the glory that belongs to him. In this case it seemed as though the odds were against them and that Gideon was WAY out numbered. Gideon would have been considered as the underdog. The only reason that the perception had to change was because of pride. Pride from the children of Israel saying, it did it all by myself because there are enough of us, we can do it again. Jesus resists then proud. In this case he resisted so much ghat he stopped pride before it started. Lord help us all to humble instead of prideful.

  36. God said, even the stakes out a little bit so that everyone understands who really won this battle. God is always in the underdogs side. It’s like Elishas servant, you just can’t see how many are actually with us. We should not worry about the battle, because it is the lords anyways. And he never loses.

  37. 4But the LORD told Gideon, “There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.

We should realize God’s power is all powerful. He only needs very little to have victory. God wanted to show to Gideon how powerful he is, by only using 300 men to defeat thousands. We should never lose faith in what God can do for you.

  38. “And the number of them that lapped, putting their hand to their mouth, were three hundred men: but all the rest of the people bowed down upon their knees to drink water.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭7:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Imagine what an army we’d be if we could all get on the same page here at POFW imagine the lost we could reach and the lives we could help be delivered out of Egypt (sin) God wants to use those who follow our Watchman on the wall. God wants to use us for this city and region of Fort Worth.

  39. “But the Lord told Gideon, “There are still too many! Bring them down to the spring, and I will test them to determine who will go with you and who will not.” When Gideon took his warriors down to the water, the Lord told him, “Divide the men into two groups. In one group put all those who cup water in their hands and lap it up with their tongues like dogs. In the other group put all those who kneel down and drink with their mouths in the stream.” Only 300 of the men drank from their hands. All the others got down on their knees and drank with their mouths in the stream. The Lord told Gideon, “With these 300 men I will rescue you and give you victory over the Midianites. Send all the others home.” So Gideon collected the provisions and rams’ horns of the other warriors and sent them home. But he kept the 300 men with him. The Midianite camp was in the valley just below Gideon.”
    ‭‭Judges‬ ‭7:4-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We rarely think that bigness can be a hindrance to the work of God. Yet it is harder to truly rely on God when we have many wonderful resources at hand. Though it certainly can be done, it is hard to be big and to rely only on the LORD. When we are big, it is possible to do a lot in human resources and “give the credit” to God.
