1 Samuel 3

And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child.

Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

14 And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli’s house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

15 And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the Lord. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

16 Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.

19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.

21 And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.

  1. 17 And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee?

  2. God is speaking and you should listen because he is your all in all, your everything. The child was too young to know it was the voice of God but he was obedient to his father and learned that it was his Lord and savior talking.

  3. 1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

And the word of the Lord was precious in those days. It seems that the more access we have to something the more likely chance that it is taken for granted because it seems to be interpreted as ordinary rather than miraculous. I believe the Lord still intends for us to value his word and to see it as precious as it should in all manner. We must not forget that there are people across seas dying to have this in their possession and we have a freely all the time. God may not speak in visions very often but we need to see every method that God speaks to us just as precious

  4. 13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

Restrained – kept under control; prevented from freedom of movement or action.

The words are hard – to keep under control. Parents think that keeping a child under control limits their potential and that is far from the truth. Control is an illusion, no one is ever in control except for God. Our children learn discipline from us, if from an early age we teach them how to say please, thank you, and treat adults with respect (I also expect adults to treat my children with respect), then they grow up knowing manners; but Oh God is so much better when we teach them about God, about the 10 commandments, prayer ing, the Holy Ghost, and about the Love of Christ. You sum that to the good manners and you have a child that you can trust and know that God can be pleased with your child. Eli did not restrained his children and now God is about to clean house. Keep this in mind next time you think that restraining your child and teaching him will limit his potential. Better limit his potential and know that he is saved, that letting him reach all and have nothing!

  5. The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh and gave messages to Samuel there at the Tabernacle. And Samuel’s words went out to all the people of Israel.
    1 Samuel 3:21‭-‬22 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/1sa.3.21-22.NLT

The humility, submission, and obedience in Samuel is what God used the most. Samuel didn’t have fancy talents to show off, he was just an obedient, willing vessel.

  6. 16. Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

    17. And he said, What is the thing that the Lord hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

Eli knew that the Word from the Lord was going to be harsh, but he didn’t shy away from it, he wanted to know the whole truth.
We should follow his example and always want to know all of what God has to say to us – whether it is through His Word or through His men.

    Galatians 4:16
Am I therefore become your enemy, because I tell you the truth?

    2 Timothy 4:
    3. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

    4. And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

  7. The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh and gave messages to Samuel there at the Tabernacle. And Samuel’s words went out to all the people of Israel.
    1 Samuel 3:21‭-‬22 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/1sa.3.21-22.NLT

It was the humility, submission and obedience in Samuel. He didn’t have special talents to show off. He was just an obedient, willing vessel.

  8. I Samuel 3
Samuel answered, “Speak. I’m your servant, ready to listen.”

Under the guidance of an old man Samuel as mule had submitted himself. His ears were attentive to Eli and thus no distraction kept him from hearing the voice of God. We must teach our children and new babes in Christ how to hear the voice of God . We cannot allow distractions of this world to close our spiritual ears . There is still work to be done for the Kingdom.
Lord help me to stay focused and sensitive to your voice.

Be still and know Him .

  9. 9Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

Sometimes when the voice of the Lord comes to us, we can’t hear or acknowledge it because we have everything else around us distracting us. We may have issues that keep our attention focus on them and not God. How many times have we prayed and asked God to speak to us and when he does we just don’t hear it. We have to be like Samuel we have to get to our place and be sensitive to God, even if that means we need to learn to pray better and focus more on God even when we don’t won’t to.

It is going to take dedication to hear God in this last days to understand what it is that we are suppose to do. If not we will become a statistic and lose out eternally. We have to live Jesus to give Jesus.

  10. “GOD called again, “Samuel!”—the third time! Yet again Samuel got up and went to Eli, “Yes? I heard you call me. Here I am.” That’s when it dawned on Eli that GOD was calling the boy. So Eli directed Samuel, “Go back and lie down. If the voice calls again, say, ‘Speak, GOD. I’m your servant, ready to listen.’” Samuel returned to his bed.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:8-9‬ ‭MSG‬‬

God is merciful! Eli didn’t perceive what was happening. Samuel didn’t know what was happening either. God continued to call until there was revelation. I don’t think that Samuel and Eli are the only people who are afforded this privilege. I think that God still calls and uses people like this. He continued to call after us when we didn’t know him. Until we heard and listened, then obeyed.

  11. 1Samuel 3:3-4 [ amp] The lamp of God had not yet gone out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was lying down.
[4] When the Lord called , Samuel! And he answered, Here I am.
Lord help to stay focus and alert to your voice.
Lord help be vessels for your command.
2 Corinthians 4 :6 [ amp] For God Who said, Let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts so as [ to beam fourth] the Light for the illumination of the knowledge of the majesty and glory of God [ as it is manifest in the Person and is revealed] in the face of Jesus Christ [ the Messiah].
Lord don’t light go out, Let your light .

  12. 19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

This the kind if favor we should all seek from the Lord. To grow in God is much that what we speak does not fall to the ground. Our words have power, but imagine how much more power our words can have when we follow the will if God. If we can push pass all the things that try to surround us, we can can do exactly what God wants us to do.

  13. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    LISTEN

10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

GOD has established through HIS WORD that HE speaks to man often. When we desperately need a WORD from GOD we seem to stop our normal routine to hear from HIM.

In this passage we witness the process. Samuel a sensitive boy hears the voice of the Lord and is not aware until the insensitive elder reveals to him who the voice is.

I am intrigued by the fact that Samuel thought the voice of the LORD to be the voice of Eli the man of GOD. Seems to say to me that the voices should be all as the same. When the man of GOD is right with GOD his voice should sound as if its the voice of the LORD.

We then are called and compelled to listen.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS

  14. iLove Jesus
18 And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the Lord: let him do what seemeth him good.

I read this and it doesn’t make sense. Think about it. Why not just repent Eli? Why just accept the judgement against you? Why not repent and remove your wicked sons from ministry? Why just accept your doom?

Hezekiah would later prove this theory to be right when the prophet came to him and told him he was gonna die. Hezekiah did not accept this prophecy, but instead he repented and turned his face to the wall.

  15. 1 And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

Two things about this verse 1) the word of the Lord was precious. Especially with the world in turmoil right now, the Word of the Lord must remain or become precious in our lives. The controls that are being placed on churches because of the pandemic is just a dry run for things to come. We are the church! His word must be in our hearts that it will guide us each day and we must guard it with our whole being.

The second thing that stood out is it says Samuel ministered into the Lord before Eli. Samuel was there to help Eli, serving him, assisting in whatever he ask and the Bible calls it ministering unto the Lord. That is the approach we should take with everything we do. Serving our families is ministering as unto
the Lord. Working at the church is ministering to the Lord. Loving the elderly is ministering to the Lord. Let’s remember this concept when we want to grumble and complain.

  16. We obey our law because it’s the right thing, but we also obey the law of the Lord because it’s precious to us and it will save our souls.

  17. 3:19 and Samuel grew and the Lord was with him
And did not let none of his words fall to the ground.
    ——
    What a great testimony 🙌.
Just like He was with Joseph, and many others….
Lord, give me ears to hear, wisdom …..

  18. 19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
20 And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the Lord.

Samuel was favored and mightily used because he chose to serve faithfully and obey the Man of God and the Word of God. It’s proven over and over again the blessings and favor we can receive if we are obedient and faithfully serve the Lord.

  19. ‘That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I. 1 Samuel 3:4

Just like other relationships with acquaintances, friends, and family members there has to be communication in order to be in a healthy relationship. We can’t have one person doing all the talking and the other not responding. Otherwise we will begin to not value that relationship, we will begin to feel unheard and unappreciated.

Same can be applied with Jesus, we should openly communicate with Him. When He speaks we should answer. When He calls we should respond, and when He moves we should move!

  20. I Samuel 3:19 And Samual grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

Samuel grew, as in stature, so in wisdom and piety, and God’s favor, and reputation with the people.
    God made all his predictions.

Joshua 21:45 There failed not ought of any good thing which the Lord has spoken unto the house of Israel ; all came to pass.

  21. 1 Samuel 3:1, “AND the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.”

“The Word Of The Lord Is Precious”
Precious – of great value; important

In the world that we live in today, full of chaos and fear, false teachers, false doctrine, churches closing their doors right now, the Word of the Lord should be MORE Precious to us now than ever before.
We need to Read His Word, Study His Word, Hide His Word in our Hearts, Live by His Word, Do His Word, Stand on His Word, and Speak His Word. Faith in God’s Word gives us Hope, gives us Peace, gives us Strength, gives us Direction, etc…

The Word of the Lord is spirit and life to us!! (St. John 6:63)

Thank You JESUS that YOU are the WORD!!

  22. In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

  23. “And the child Samuel ministered unto the Lord before Eli. And the word of the Lord was precious in those days; there was no open vision.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God will speak, and guide us when we His people seek Him, and when His ministers seek to serve Him diligently. This next days will be hard on many people but us Christians we need to seek Hod more then ever before and let God hide us to give those around us words of encouragement and give them Jesus. This world is in need of Jesus.

  24. Eli had allowed his sons to sin but Samuel had heard from the Lord three times then realized it was not from Eli but from God. Samuel ministered unto the Lord unto Eli. Samuel was close to the Lord and found favor in him. Following God will always be a blessing!

  25. 12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

We will be judged on how we run our household as well as our own deeds.

  26. 9 Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place. 10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

When God speaks in any way to us we should remember to respond with these same words….Speak, for for they servant heareth. Lord I pray that you give us ears to hear and hearts of submission that are willing to obey your voice.

  27. 3 And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

    Leviticus 6: 12-13
12The fire on the altar shall be kept burning; it must not be extinguished. Every morning the priest is to add wood to the fire, arrange the burnt offering on it, and burn the fat portions of the peace offerings on it. 13The fire must be kept burning on the altar continually; it must not be extinguished.

Dim light need a fresh call!
Just when Samuel was sleep and the temple was dark God called out for him to step up! The world around us is experiencing a dark time but that Does not mean God is not sending out a fresh call for intercessors and bold men and women to preach the gospel and reach the lost.

    40 Days of The Fire!
Lord send fresh fire and a fresh call for young men and women, all men and women to step up and spread the Fire of the Holy Ghost!!

  28. 19 The Lord was with Samuel as he grew up, and he let none of Samuel’s words fall to the ground.

20 And all Israel from Dan to Beersheba recognized that Samuel was attested as a prophet of the Lord .

21 The Lord continued to appear at Shiloh, and there he revealed himself to Samuel through his word.

    1 Samuel 3:19‭-‬21 NIV
    https://bible.com/bible/111/1sa.3.19-21.NIV

The Lord was with Samuel through everything He, never left Samuel. And He will never leave us! He is always there when we might think he is not but, he is there and never will leave us.!!
    LIVE, GIVE, JESUS!

  29. In this chapter we read how important it is to be able to recognize the voice of God and not be distracted by other things that are trying to get in the way of that. There can be distractions that will try to divert you, tempt you and try to lure you away from what God has planned for you. In this time that we are currently living in, we cannot afford to hear the wrong voice and be distracted by anything or anyone. Verse 11 MSG says “God said to Samuel, “Listen carefully. I’m getting ready to do something in Israel that is going to shake everyone up and get their attention.” Focus on Jesus and what he has blessed you with and let us be grateful as we give Him all of the honor and all of the glory.

  30. 19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

Those who honour God he will honour. Let young people consider the piety of Samuel, and from him they will learn to remember their Creator in the days of their youth. Young people are capable of giving their life to Jesus . Samuel is a proof that their waiting upon the Lord will be pleasing to him. He is a pattern of all those amiable tempers, which are the brightest ornament of youth, and a sure source of happiness. Love the Lord your God, with all your 💓

  31. “Then the LORD said to Samuel, “I am about to do a shocking thing in Israel. I am going to carry out all my threats against Eli and his family, from beginning to end. I have warned him that judgment is coming upon his family forever, because his sons are blaspheming God and he hasn’t disciplined them. So I have vowed that the sins of Eli and his sons will never be forgiven by sacrifices or offerings.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:11-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What a sad situation to find yourself in. And it’s all because of slack of discipline. But even with the devastating report Eli excepted God’s word.

“So Samuel told Eli everything; he didn’t hold anything back. “It is the LORD’s will,” Eli replied. “Let him do what he thinks best.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  32. 19 And Samuel grew, and the Lord was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

What kind of relationship would we have with the Lord if we treated him this same way? Like really treated him, his Word with this kind of diligence and respect? I can assume that we could just reverse this verse and that would be our outcome; we would grow in God and the Lord would be constantly be with us.

Make room for the King and the King will make a dwelling place in your life.

  33. By the word

21 And the Lord appeared again in Shiloh: for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the Lord.

This is how God reveals himself to us today, thru his word. Folks are always wanting a word from God but they have it at their fingertips. Just opening the word unlocks his wisdom and understanding. It’s really that simple I guess folks want it to be more mysterious than that but it isn’t. To know God you have to read his word. Simple

  34. 4 That the Lord called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.
5 And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.
6 And the Lord called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.
7 Now Samuel did not yet know the Lord, neither was the word of the Lord yet revealed unto him.

How many times do we answer back to the Lord calling?? Some of us go to Pastor because we can feel a pull in our hearts to ministry or a calling. Some of us go to the Lord in prayer and rejoice or request. And then there are those of us that ignore that calling from the Lord and/or His nudging. We should be as Samuel and as he did and if we don’t know if it’s God to bring it to our Pastor. Pastor will always be a voice of reason in our lives. Listen for His voice, but don’t just listen . . . respond!!!

  35. 9So he said to Samuel, “Go and lie down again, and if someone calls again, say, ‘Speak, LORD, your servant is listening.’” So Samuel went back to bed..

We all have gotten that feeling before that God is speaking to you. We try to ignore that small voice. But let’s take the time and let God speak to you through prayer and continued prayer.

  36. 11 And the Lord said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

12 In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

13 For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not

Why didn’t Eli repent and why couldn’t Eli make his sons leave the priesthood are 2 questions that come to mind. Even with the wrong example of a priest, Samuel was faithful and served the Lord correctly, and again, his teaching began at home. We must teach our children the pleasures of sin are short lived and are the path to destruction…teaching them with patience and love.

  37. Judges 4:18 -19 [ amp] And Jael went out to meet Sisera and said to him, Turn aside to me; have no fear, So he turned aside to her into the tent, and she covered him with rug.
[19] And he said to het, Give me, I pray you, a little water to drink for I am thirsty, And she opened a skin of milk and gave him a drink and covered him.
Stay under the covering of Jesus , offer up Praises to him. He will be with us through every storm! Keep your altar burning and the light of the Lord shining.

  38. “GOD called again, “Samuel, Samuel!” Samuel got up and went to Eli, “I heard you call. Here I am.” Again Eli said, “Son, I didn’t call you. Go back to bed.” (This all happened before Samuel knew GOD for himself. It was before the revelation of GOD had been given to him personally.)”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭3:6-7‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/97/1sa.3.6-7.msg

This is where we see that the voice of God and the voice of the priest sounds the same. It’s important to acknowledge this, when our Pastor is preaching we can’t let any of the word slip by. This is the voice of God folks so let’s pay attention.

  39. Speak, Lord
    for thy servant heareth
Going back to the place where I first heard the Voice of GOD…….Samuel spoke boldly

    1 Samuel 3:3 KJV
    [3] And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the Lord , where the ark of God was , and Samuel was laid down to sleep ;

    1 Samuel 3:9 KJV
[9] Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord ; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

    Acts 4:29-31 KJV
[29] And now, Lord, behold their threatenings: and grant unto thy servants, that with all boldness they may speak thy word, [30] By stretching forth thine hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the name of thy holy child Jesus. [31] And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together; and they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they spake the word of God with boldness.
