1 Samuel 8

And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.

Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.

And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

10 And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.

11 And he said, This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons, and appoint them for himself, for his chariots, and to be his horsemen; and some shall run before his chariots.

12 And he will appoint him captains over thousands, and captains over fifties; and will set them to ear his ground, and to reap his harvest, and to make his instruments of war, and instruments of his chariots.

13 And he will take your daughters to be confectionaries, and to be cooks, and to be bakers.

14 And he will take your fields, and your vineyards, and your oliveyards, even the best of them, and give them to his servants.

15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

16 And he will take your menservants, and your maidservants, and your goodliest young men, and your asses, and put them to his work.

17 He will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

18 And ye shall cry out in that day because of your king which ye shall have chosen you; and the Lord will not hear you in that day.

19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.

22 And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

  1. “Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance. “Do everything they say to you,” the Lord replied, “for they are rejecting me, not you. They don’t want me to be their king any longer. Ever since I brought them from Egypt they have continually abandoned me and followed other gods. And now they are giving you the same treatment.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We should never carry such troubles with us. Instead, we should do what Samuel did when he prayed to the LORD. It is the mistake of our life, that we carry our burdens instead of handing them over Jesus.

  2. Verses 6-9 MSG “When Samuel heard their demand—“Give us a king to rule us!”—he was crushed. How awful! Samuel prayed to God. God answered Samuel, “Go ahead and do what they’re asking. They are not rejecting you. They’ve rejected me as their King. From the day I brought them out of Egypt until this very day they’ve been behaving like this, leaving me for other gods. And now they’re doing it to you. So let them have their own way. But warn them of what they’re in for. Tell them the way kings operate, just what they’re likely to get from a king.” Samuel was crushed at the peoples request for a king; but, as always Samuel prayed to God. Even with the warnings, the people were so blinded by their desire that they couldn’t see what they were actually doing was rejecting the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Hebrews 12:2-3 AMP “[looking away from all that will distract us and] focusing our eyes on Jesus, who is the Author and Perfecter of faith [the first incentive for our belief and the One who brings our faith to maturity], who for the joy [of accomplishing the goal] set before Him endured the cross, [a]disregarding the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God [revealing His deity, His authority, and the completion of His work]. Just consider and meditate on Him who endured from sinners such bitter hostility against Himself [consider it all in comparison with your trials], so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.”

  3. “In spite of what Samuel said, the people refused to listen to him. “No!” they said. “We want a king to rule over us. Then we’ll be like all of the other nations. We’ll have a king to lead us. He’ll go out at the head of our armies and fight our battles.” Samuel heard everything the people said. He told the Lord about it. The Lord answered, “Listen to them. Give them a king.” Then Samuel said to the men of Israel, “Each of you go back to your own town.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:19-22‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

We can push God away until He releases us to your own will. Lord, I pray my desire would always be toward you. A desire for you to be King of my life.

  4. “We want to be like the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.” So Samuel repeated to the Lord what the people had said, and the Lord replied, “Do as they say, and give them a king.” Then Samuel agreed and sent the people home.
    1 Samuel 8:20‭-‬22 NLT

Thank you Jesus for today, let us go with God today . Our mind heart soul strength focused on his will

  5. 20. That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

God didn’t call us to be like everyone else – He called us to be like Him.
Now they will have to learn the hard way that an earthly king doesn’t have the power to fight their battles for them like God has been doing.

  6. “We want to be like nations arpund us” they said the grass is greener on they other side . They belived . We might be judging them or asking why reject God . But in reality we sometimes do the same thing. The world makes everything seem so glamerous when in reality it’s a ugly mess. God’s Kingdom is and will always be the best place for us . We shouldn’t strive to be like the world, but we should strive to live Christ like .

  7. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.
9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

  8. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Some times it is human nature fresh to take the burden upon ourselves and our expectations on other people. It only seems natural that if people are reacting to us that it must be us oh, but that’s not always the case, it rarely ever is. People, as a whole, don’t always know what is good for them. They don’t normally choose what is right and they aren’t always app for picking the best choice. Looking at this whole pandemic from a different perspective you can see that clearly. I love how God comforts Samuel and telling him that they have not rejected Samuel, but himself. I can only imagine what was going through Samuels mind feeling like he wasn’t enough for the people when God spoke these words to him. We must remember that this world does not serve God. Many people may claim him but that doesn’t mean they choose him. With all the warning signs in the world people still refuse to submit to their God and trusting in him. This is why we choose life and choose it abundantly in Christ. Let the world reject us. Let them scoff at us, they’re not rejecting us, they’re rejecting the Lord.

  9. But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning. “Even so, we still want a king,” they said. “We want to be like the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.”
    1 Samuel 8:19‭-‬20 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/1sa.8.19-20.NLT

This is the problem. When we look around us at the circumstance then we try to come up with our own solutions. They looked around at their neighboring nations and wanted what they had. The grass always looks greener on the other side of the fence. When we keep our eyes focused on our true King then we can have confidence that no matter the troubles in life our God will not be greedy and demanding, but He will see us through.

  10. iLove Jesus
15 And he will take the tenth of your seed, and of your vineyards, and give to his officers, and to his servants.

Did y’all catch this? Samuel tells the people that the king was going to take the tithe for himself. Basically referring the king would take the place of God for them. It was not God’s will for this to happen, however this is what the people wanted and so this is what the people got.

When we pay our tithes we are accepting the King of Kings as Lord over ourselves.

  11. 4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,

5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

And men created politicians!!!! My father was always a wise men and I always thought I knew everything (yes, funny). If there was one thing that always boil my blood was injustice, so I was the kind of teen that always put my nose in every bodies business trying to fix their arguments, and always taking the under dogs side. That’s why everyone in my family called me the peace maker or the lawyer. I grew up catholic and I always loved reading the Bible. Therefore, I was always full of questions that the priest (who always visited our home for my mother was the priest friend) will not, or could not answer all my questions. So his visit to our home didn’t always finished in a good note and my mother always finish grounding me, to which I always thought was an injustice for all I was doing was seeking knowledge. My sweet father was always on my side but kind of fear my mother. Anyways, I am saying all this just to tell you what my wise father told me once: he said, there were certain things I will never find in this world no matter how hard I looked. I will never find “THE PERFECT CHURCH” for the church was always full of humans and humans are imperfect; that I will never find an “Honest Politician” because to get to where they were they had to be people pleasers and adjust to what people wanted; and finally that I will never find a “Lawyer that did not lie” for they manipulate the law so their client would be set free, so they will always speak in half truths, for their statements have to be “kind” of believable. So men created politicians = 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.
The more I read the more it intrigues me. Men put themselves in chaos by their disobedience, so God gives them the law, they don’t follow it, so God gives them judges, to settle arguments, so judges get bribed, so now they want a king. Men are never content with what God gives them, they finish messing it up, and wanting more. When I was little I used to play a game of only I was God. Now, after many years of consideration and observation I would t take the job even if they were giving it for free.
Everything I have said sounds like a joke, but it is not a joke for if it wasn’t for all those questions I would of never found the truth in the PENTECOSTAL church. If it wasn’t for what my father said I would still be jumping from church to church looking for the “perfect church”. I LOVE MY CHURCH, we aren’t perfect but we serve THE PERFECT GOD, that taught us THE PERFECT LOVE!!! Thank you JESUS FOR YOUR PERFECT LOVE. So love your neighbor and give them JESUS!

  12. 19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.
21 And Samuel heard all the words of the people, and he rehearsed them in the ears of the Lord.

We can’t be going for our own desires and will. We should not be like the others for we are different and wish to act like everyone around us.

  13. 19 But the people refused to listen to Samuel’s warning. “Even so, we still want a king,” they said. 20“We want to be like the nations around us. Our king will judge us and lead us into battle.”

How many of us have refused to warnings from our parents, pastor or friends? We all have at one time or another, and regret it later. Listen to those who have experienced and lived thru your issue. Those elder than you, are little wiser than you. Don’t let your heart be hardened, but seek guidance from elders, Pastor and God!

  14. 1 Samuel 8
7 And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king.

One of the hardest things for a leader and especially a pastor Is when someone walks away from the King of Kings….the people kept pressing Samuel for a king. They sought after worldly things. They wanted things their way and not God’s. They wanted to be like everyone else.
They had know the miraculous works throughout from generation to generation. They knew who God was yet they rejected Him over and over . They wanted it their way .

    John 12:13
took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet Him, and began to shout, “Hosanna! BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD, even the King of Israel.”

How sad that even today many still reject Jesus King of Kings

Mark 12:10 New International Version (NIV)

10 Haven’t you read this passage of Scripture:

    “‘The stone the builders rejected
    has become the cornerstone;

1 Peter 2:7 New International Version (NIV)

7 Now to you who believe, this stone is precious. But to those who do not believe,

    “The stone the builders rejected

Jesus be the Lord if all !

  15. 8:19 nevertheless the people refuse to obey the voice of Samuel, and they said: Nay!! But we will have a king over us.
    ——-
🤨!!! O boy!!! When stubborn people want to do things their way, pretty much other ones end up paying for their stupidity. ( stinky spirit of pride) plays a big part on this.
    🙏🙏🙏🙏

  16. 6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

I feel like in this last day, the scripture states very clearly that there will be a great calling away from the truth and God. We will see many that will grow upset and angry with the man of God. They will hate the word and love not the truth. We will see many that will begin to turn away from the love of God.

I feel we are living in the times that many will be hated for the truth and as long as we stand for God and his kingdom, we will be considered outcasts. But I know that my eternal reward will be greater than the sacrifice that I will endure for the kingdom here in this world. I will serve God when no one else will. I must live Jesus to be able to give Jesus.

  17. And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

10 And Samuel told all the words of the Lord unto the people that asked of him a king.

  18. Samuel 8:19 -20 [ amp] Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, No! We will have a king over us.
[20] That we also may be like all the nations, and that our king may govern us and go out before us and fight our battles.
We know as a church family there is only one king that reigns over this world. It’s does’nt matter what world what’s it only matters what Jesus want’s!
The world hate’s us, But the bible love the sinner and hate the sin ! But I choose to reign with Jesus for the rest of my life. God is above all !

  19. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

Sometimes you get what you want, but it’s not what you need and you think you got Your way.

20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

9 Now therefore hearken unto their voice: howbeit yet protest solemnly unto them, and shew them the manner of the king that shall reign over them.

Even then we don’t even listen to the warnings of God because we think we know it all.

    AL.M.A.S.

Thank God he always give us a warning about want to come with our decision.

  20. When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as Israel’s leaders. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not follow his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice.

  21. And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

When daniel spoke unto theme he didn’t have a attitude and that is what the world struggles with the most and when we show attitude with god he still loves us but he has to discipline us

    God bless yall

  22. And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

When daniel spoke unto theme he didn’t have a attitude and that is what the world struggles with the most and when we show attitude with god he still loves us but he has to discipline us.

  23. “Samuel was displeased with their request and went to the Lord for guidance.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We are going to have disagreements and times of disappointments of those around us. But we should go to the Lord for guidance!

  24. 19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

They made the choice to “do their own thing” to “be like others” and that decision will cost them a lot. Even though Samuel warned them of what a king would do to them, they couldn’t see the results because they wanted a “king” too much.

God warns us over and over again through His word, and yet we make decisions that draw us away from Him to our lusts and wants. If we are not careful we will find ourselves just like the Israelites replacing the Word of God and God himself in our lives with the voices of others. Then we too will suffer like the Israelites.

Many times I am reminded of a message Bro. Tallent preached at the south camp several years ago, The High Cost of a Bad Decision. We must weigh our decisions through much prayer and not be so quick to do things because the results could far outweigh the pleasure for a moment.

  25. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE

22 And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

Spiritual Leadership has in my option the greatest contrast of “Challenge vs Reward”. There is nothing more Rewarding than to see a soul Live in the VICTORY of JESUS and nothing more challenging to see a soul reject, despise, resist or walk away from VICTORY in JESUS.

We witness here a Spiritual Pandemic to the negative. The PEOPLE are mad at the Preacher, which I consider undeerstandable based on the situation. Sounds like and looks like Eli and his sons part 2 in the making. Obviously Samuel was old, but he was still following the LORD, we learn here that being old is not always a disqualifies from hearing the LORD.

But THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE was to “make a king”. This was the current day pandemic that lead to the great fall of the people. Even more so today, because we have a KING, in fact, King JESUS is the one and only KING of Kings. Which for interpretation, he always has been and always will be.

Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.

This is why Samuel resisted and GOD despised their request. Can you imagine, THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE was to replace GOD with a man. I call it a pandemic, because it was global as they knew back then without news casts and networks to identify. THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE came from other people.

5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE was to be like all the other people (churches). This call and decision was catastrophic in the fact that it is unholy. To be HOLY we must be set apart or separated unto the LORD, in attitude, actions and appearance.

We learned from Joshua and Caleb that GOD will allow THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE to stand, but we also learn how painful it is. Forty years of a wondering death march, I am confident if they had knowledge of the outcome they would no doubt have possessed the land.

I send a word of Spiritual caution today to The POFW family that will read this. Our greatest future as a church and as families is to follow the LORD and not the people. I don’t expect that we will all ever agree on everything. But, I do ask for and covet your prayers that we always follow the LORD JESUS. We witness how tempting it is to demand our own way, establish our own path and even the more at this vulnerable time of the Church when we are not permitted to meet as planned. I will challenge you the eternal words of the notable apostle Paul.

1Corinthians 11:1 Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.

Please know that every decision I make that affects The POFW is a tough decision. The Kingdom of GOD demands UNITY and I aspire to protect the UNITY. But, there will always be THE WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

I admonish you today to consider this a warning or notice that deception is here or looming and we must create ways to connect, calls, texts, emails, online participation, stay close to the Body of Christ and when we are able we shall all REJOICE together in HIM. You are loved deeply and we miss seeing your faces frequently. Thank you for your prayers and support in these trying times.

Blessings to all in JESUS Name

  26. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

God told Samuel to fulfill the people’s request. This was not because their request was right, but because God would teach Israel through this.

Sometimes when we continue to insist on having something not meant for us, God will allow us to have it and then teach us through it.

Though if we were obedient the first time, we wouldn’t have to learn the hard way.

  27. 1 Samuel 8:11, 13-17
    11) … This will be the manner of the king that shall reign over you: He will take your sons,…
    13) And he will take your daughters…
    14) And he will take your fields, your vineyards, and your oliveyards,…
    15) And he will take the tenth of your seed,…
    16) And he will take your menservants, and your maidens,…
    17) And he will take the tenth of your sheep: and ye shall be his servants.

“He Will Take… Ye Shall Be His Servants”
This new king that Israel wanted over them would be a “Taker.” He will want Israel to “Serve” him.
    BUT
When King Jesus came to earth, “He came not to be ministered to, but to “Minister,” and to “Give” His life… ”
As another version says, “He came not to be served, but to “Serve” others. and to “Give” His life…” (St. Matt. 20:28). We as the children of God and called a royal priesthood, should be like King Jesus. We are here to “Minister” and to “Serve” others and to “Give JESUS.”

    LIVE JESUS – GIVE JESUS!!

  28. I Samuel 8:22 And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

At times God permits men to have their own way, so the foolishness of men may be seen in clear distinction to God’s holy purposes and standards.

Proverbs 9:9,10 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

  29. 1 Samuel 8:19-22

  30. “As Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons to be judges over Israel. Joel and Abijah, his oldest sons, held court in Beersheba. But they were not like their father, for they were greedy for money. They accepted bribes and perverted justice. Finally, all the elders of Israel met at Ramah to discuss the matter with Samuel. “Look,” they told him, “you are now old, and your sons are not like you. Give us a king to judge us like all the other nations have.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:1-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The reason Israel wanted a king was wrong. “Like all the nations” is no reason at all. We often get into trouble by wanting to be like the world when we should instead be transformed into the image of Jesus Christ

  31. 7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

8 According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt even unto this day, wherewith they have forsaken me, and served other gods, so do they also unto thee.

Samuel followed what the Lord had told him to do, the people wanted to follow their own path and follow other Gods. They didn’t want to listen to Samuel when he warned them what would happen. They followed what they wanted. Sometimes we might want what isn’t right but we will get it because the Lord always has a lesson for us later on, or if we follow what the Lord wants it would be so much easier.

  32. 5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.

6 But the thing displeased Samuel, when they said, Give us a king to judge us. And Samuel prayed unto the Lord.

7 And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.

What do you do when something displeases you? What attitude and action rises up in you? Do you get offended and leave? Do you stop working serving? Do you take it out on others? Do you seek revenge? Its interesting that we are told this bit if detail about Samuel. That it displeased him. Not all things are gonna be pleasant especially dealing with people and in minsitry. Yet we are shown a wonderful example of how to deal with it. He prayed. He went and told it to the one that can. That can do or answer or even explain. God did not owe Samuel an explanation yet I believe because of their relationship He told him what was going on. They are not rejecting you but they are rejecting me. The fact of the matter is how Samuel handled the situation and his attitude. He went to the Lord in prayer. So next time we are faced with a similar situation go tell it to Jesus in prayer. After all He is the only one that has the power to change things.

  33. 22 And the Lord said to Samuel, Hearken unto their voice, and make them a king. And Samuel said unto the men of Israel, Go ye every man unto his city.

“Let kings for the future, and not judges like yourself, rule over us.”

  34. 19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;

Samuel pleaded his case before the people. But they didn’t want to hear it. But before he appointed a king he ran ut by God first. Imagine all the” I told you so’s” we could have saved if we would have just ran it by God first. Lol

  35. “Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us; That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The children of Israel wanted to serve God on their own terms. They wanted a middleman to protect them when all along they were seeking the guidance and protection God provided. Transitioning to being independent from my parents, I realized I would seek my parents guidance on everything without going to God. I had to learn how to go to God first. He said He would give us anything we ask of in His name. I had to learn that my relationship with God wasn’t filtered through my parents but was one-on-one. I thank God for creating us for relationship and giving the greatest miracle He could give – His Spirit inside of us. I pray we remember His sacrifice for us, which created a direct pathway to Him. In other words, Jesus is on the mainline tell Him what you want!!!

  36. And he will take

5 times in this chapter it says “ and he will take”
Speaking of the king that the people want instead of the prophet. And then it says “ you will cry”

This is what the world does to you, it takes and takes and takes and when we cry out, Jesus is there to give and give and give.

The prophet knew what the people needed but God said go ahead and give them what they want, we will wait a little while, they will be back.

Lord let me never get to the point that I want this world more than you. I know what it does and I know how much it takes.

Take this whole world and give me Jesus

  37. “And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment. Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah, And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Samuel put his sons n a place of authority where they had seen the of their father. He fully expected them to take of the family business. Instead the elder of area had to inform him of the new leaders’ bad leadership. Was Samuel so taken a back by the thought that his own children were taking over what he once did that he ignored their behavior? Did he just expect them to do the “right” thing so he just didn’t observe? Why are the elders having to tell Samuel of the behavior of his children? Samuel was somehow blinded to the events happening right before him. He was not the first man to have this happen, and he will not be the last either.

God help us all to have clear vision to see naturally and spiritually. Lord help us to watch, observe, and inspect the leaders we train under us and those that will take our places so we can guide them in the correct path.

  38. “GOD answered Samuel, “Go ahead and do what they’re asking. They are not rejecting you. They’ve rejected me as their King. From the day I brought them out of Egypt until this very day they’ve been behaving like this, leaving me for other gods. And now they’re doing it to you. So let them have their own way. But warn them of what they’re in for. Tell them the way kings operate, just what they’re likely to get from a king.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:7-9‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/97/1sa.8.7-9.msg

Remember when people reject you when you start telling them about the word and what Gods able to do, it’s not you their rejecting it’s God. But we can’t let that be the determining factor for us to stop reaching we got to keep pressing keep moving keep preaching and praying for the Lost. These people are poor of the Gospel and we have to give to these people that are truly with out the word of God

  39. “Nevertheless, the people refused to listen to the voice of Samuel, and they said, “No, but there shall be a king over us, so that we too may be like all the nations [around us], that our king may judge [and govern] us and go out before us and fight our battles.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭8:19-20‬ ‭AMP‬‬

They wanted to have their own king and be like others instead of listening to the man of God. We want to do it our way most the time but fail to realize that God knows all. If we will just submit to his ways and allow him to lead us. We are set apart from other for a reason we do not need to try and be like them.

  40. 19 Nevertheless the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel; and they said, Nay; but we will have a king over us;
20 That we also may be like all the nations; and that our king may judge us, and go out before us, and fight our battles.

What they didnt realize is their God was their King. The King of all kings, the King of every battle!

  41. 2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beersheba.
3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.

As this world grows more evil and perverse as the years go by, it worries me as a parent. Is being at the church four or five nights a week enough?? Teaching them and raising them as what we think right. “ . . . his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.” And then I hear so many elders voices that I’ve heard say, “. . you can only do as much as you can do. You teach and guide to the best of your ability, but in the end it’s not your choice. The choice is in their hands!” Samuel’s sons chose to not follow in the ways of their father. But instead decided to pervert purity. Sometimes as a parent it’s not our fault.

  42. Careful what you ask for

    1 Samuel 8:7 KJV
[7] And the Lord said unto Samuel, Hearken unto the voice of the people in all that they say unto thee: for they have not rejected thee, but they have rejected me, that I should not reign over them.
