1 Samuel 21

Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present.

And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.

And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

  1. 5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

It is our job today as Christians to keep ourselves focused on Christ and his kingdom because it is through us that his word reaches those who do not know him and who are lost, so it should always be our priority that we keep our vessel holy and sanctified because we should always be less of the world and more of the father.

  2. 11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

This is ironic, the fact that David was running from Saul and the servants of Achish ask if David was the king of the land? No matter how you are labeled in life, when the anointing of God is upon you, folks will see that anointing and give heed to it. I find that David was only trying to save his own life by hiding out and not understanding exactly why Saul wanted him dead. Many people today will try to blame the word of God and others for their own inadequacies and they themselves are to blame. Many have tried to convince the children of God to move away from the truth. Some have succeeded and some have failed.

When we have been given the opportunity to do for the kingdom of God, we should not take it lightly, but we should hit the ground running and doing all that we can to preach the word of God. Reaching all that we can. We have to face the trials and tribulations of the enemy head on. God will go before us and he will take care of our enemies for us so that we can push forward the kingdom of God. Living Jesus so that we may give Jesus is the highest priority in this last day.

  3. 9. And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it : for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

    10. And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

Life certainly has its’ twists and turns – David has the sword of the giant that he killed and is running from Saul, who was afraid of the giant, and get this – he runs to the king that was over the giant that he killed, in the very town the giant came from; then becomes afraid of that king as well, and pretends to lose his mind to get away from him!

  4. 1 Sam.21: 8 [ amp] David said to Ahimelech, Do you have at hand a sword or spear? The king’s business required haste, and I brought neither my sword nor my weapons with me.
This scripture is that David for fearing his life.
Get yourself ready for a spiritual battle that we are in everyday.
Keep our minds filled with God word and prayer everyday. Satan is already defeated!
Ephesus 6: 17[ amp] And take the helmet of salvation and sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.
There no fear with Jesus, But to have a sound mind and a sound heart. Peace and joy in the Holy Ghost!
Thank you Jesus, I love you.

  5. 10 So David escaped from Saul and went to King Achish of Gath. 11 But the officers of Achish were unhappy about his being there. “Isn’t this David, the king of the land?” they asked. “Isn’t he the one the people honor with dances, singing,

David was so fearful of Saul, he would rather go and face an old enemy, and go among the Philistines. Did David lose faith in God? If our tribulation is so great we all can lose our faith in God for a moment. But we must remain encouraged, and keep our faith in God, no matter the circumstance. Don’t allow anyone to cause you to lose your faith in God.

Luke 17:1 Jesus told his disciples, “Situations that cause people to lose their faith are certain to arise. But how horrible it will be for the person who causes someone to lose his faith!

  6. 11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

I can only imagine what was going through David’s mind well being pursued after everything that it happened. Being questioned on his kingship over circumstances that he had no control over, can you picture how terrified David must have been you know I ain’t that he was being pursued by some of his own people it could not find safety where he was going? David continues to encourage yourself in the Lord and remember that he has been anointed king, even though it’s been delayed, his promise came. Don’t let your temporary circumstances make you forget your eternal promises

  7. 4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

If we are to receive from God, we must keep our vessel (body) Holy before him.

Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

  8. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus
Why did David lie, beats me but one thing is for sure, just because David lied doesn’t give us the license to lie. Not only that, but as we will soon see, this lie will soon cause the death of this innocent priest. One thing is for sure, the Bible doesn’t hide anyone’s faults, but is open and reveals all.

The Lord will give each of us a way to escape.

  9. 10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

David let the fear of what was to become of him to drive him back to the place of an old enemy.

Never let the fear of what the future may hold, of what your purpose is, to cause you to fall back into old habits.

Trust that God knows what he’s doing and keep moving forward!

  10. 9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

Use what you know works. David lied and is acting quite cowardly, but be remembered to he victory he had against Goliath and knew how to be in order to regain victory. When all else fails and you don’t know what to do, stand on His word and remember He has never and will never fail you.

  11. 21:12,13 And David laid up words in his heart, and was
Sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
And he changed his behavior before them and feigned himself, mad in Their hands, and scrabble on the doors of the gate, and let his spit fall down Upon his beard.
    ——-
Very smart, What David did. 👍
🙏 Lord give me that wisdom from above. Again, that my spirit be sensitive to your Spirit. So that we can be in tune.
David had to come up with something quick!!! And he did.
    Well done.
He did not have time to pray, and wait for Gods answer.
I guess in this case I am thinking he said. Ok Lord, in Jesus name!!! You are in control. If we look at this , I think it was a act of faith.

  12. 2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

David was on the run and evidently unsettled in his heart and mind as he fled from Saul. He was unprepared for his exile and lied to the priest. However, he went first to the house of God for his needs. If he had been honest to the priest, that man could have been prepared for Saul’s coming. For us, if we get into trouble, coming to God and Pastor is correct, but we must be completely honest, no matter how hard it might be! Then we can get direction on how to go forward with mercy and favor.

  13. 13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house?

David is not dumb, he knows what he is getting into. He prepare himself accordingly, with bread, and sword. He has to somehow keep himself alive. He is running from Saul, but how is he going to survive without anyone by his side. So he acts like a madman, crazy, so the king will let him in. Make him believe he is in his side.

Matthew 10:16 Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves.

  14. The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked.
    Proverbs 10:3 KJV
    https://bible.com/bible/1/pro.10.3.KJV

No matter where I have been in my life since I have submitted my life to God I have never gone without. he says if I dress the lilies in the field greater than the King Solomon how much more will I take of you?

  15. It is never right to lie, no buts! Unfortunately humans are not perfect. Only God is perfect and he will handle us as humans if we lie. David was very scared which is human. He stayed close to God and that’s what got him thru. God is the best!

  16. And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The King hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know anything of the business where about I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

David’s lie is not condoned by the scriptures. Lying and deception are never portrayed as an acceptable life-style for believers.

    Lying can cause fatal consequences.

Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.

    Collosians 3:9 Lie not want to another, seeing that he had put off the old man with his deeds;

  17. 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

David acted as a madman and deceived King Achish due to his fear of losing his life. Only if David had put all of his trust in the Lord, other could of been the outcome. He was able to recognize his wrongdoing and repent. God continued to be with David, something that Saul did not do. In life there are circumstances where we begin to feel like we need to act on it now because there’s no later time. As we face these moments let us remember David and rely on God. No matter how alarming the situation is, God has it all the in control.

  18. We find David on the run, running for fear of Saul caused him to first lie and then to act out like a crazy man.

Fear makes people do crazy things. Yet the bible says we should fear God and not man. Many people fear losing their jobs, losing their families, not having enough food to eat, not having enough money to pay their bills. Yet they have no fear of the God who can send them to an eternal fire. That makes little sense to me, other than the fact that people have their eyes on this world and not on eternity.

I’d rather have less in this life and life forever, then to have wealth, riches and pleasures here and spend eternity in hell forever.

Matthew 16:26 For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

  19. 1Samuel 21
    David by the ten thousand!”
12-15 When David realized that he had been recognized, he panicked, fearing the worst from Achish, king of Gath. So right there, while they were looking at him, he pretended to go crazy, pounding his head on the city gate and foaming at the mouth, spit dripping from his beard. Achish took one look at him and said to his servants, “Can’t you see he’s crazy? Why did you let him in here? Don’t you think I have enough crazy people to put up with as it is without adding another? Get him out of here!”

My mind immediately went to Peter when he denied Jesus three times. David had just received the sword he had used to cut off the head of Goliath! Peter had just spent hour after hours with Jesus . Fear has a way of causing ones actions to completely go against their logical thinking. Survival is what occurs and it is a natural instinct. Typically there are three results to fear and one usually is the dominant. You either freeze ,fight or flight. You say someone should have not yet we were not in their shoes. We all judge Peter and as read about David we begin to judge his actions. Yes Peter should not have denied Christ. Yes David should have recalled immediately when the sword was placed into his hands.how God had helped him defeat the enemy. I believe this why we must daily cleanse ourself in God’s presence . Daily fecal the victories that have been won. We must read the Word . Bread of life and maintain our spiritual strength as the fears of life come upon us. We cannot have the spirit of fear but if a sound mind knowing that if God before us who can be against us. Again fear is natural and in the times it tries to overtake you drop your pride and ask for help . Trust the people of God the man of God. Fear has torment you are not bad snd God does not shame us but He wants to heal s as bd make whole. Cover your mind with His Bind together with someone in prayer .

    In Jesus Name
Thank you for the family of God
I have to Live Jesus so I can Give Jesus
Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go (Joshua 1:9).”

  20. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE FEIGNED ACTS OF FEAR

12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

We witness the roller coaster FAITH ride of David. He fled Saul afraid of his javelin, he encouraged himself in the LORD. Now he faces the spirit of fear again. Unsure of where Saul had planted a spy. David states that he is on the Kings business.

    BUT

When David considered his false story he became afraid. Dishonesty sets us up for fear. Fear causes unnatural responses. On a side note acting crazy can deliver us from a mess.

FAITH in JESUS confirms stability in our lives.

  21. In this chapter the king sent Davis’s on a special mission that he could tell none. He also took his sword that he fought Goliath with.

  22. Now therefore what is under thine hand? give me five loaves of bread in mine hand, or what there is present

He is going to split the bread up

  23. 12 David took these words to heart and was very much afraid of Achish king of Gath.

13 So he pretended to be insane in their presence; and while he was in their hands he acted like a madman, making marks on the doors of the gate and letting saliva run down his beard.

    1 Samuel 21:12‭-‬13 NIV
    https://bible.com/bible/111/1sa.21.12-13.NIV

At times we are tested on how much faith we have David was being tested but, he let his fear come over him. And since he let his fear overcome him he was worried about what would happen and forgot his purpose. We can’t let our fear overcome us it can be so easy for us to fall into the wrong hands. we always have to remember what our purpose is and have faith and believe in God that He will deliver us.

  24. 9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

Once again we see here David using the weapon the enemy thought to use against him. When you find favor with God, you will have the power to use the enemy’s weapon against him. God has not given us the spirit of fear, but if power, love and a sound mind.

  25. 1 Samuel 21:3-6
“Ahora, pues, ¿qué tienes a mano?

    * ” Dame cinco panes”

  26. 1 Samuel 21:2, 10, 12-13
    2) And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business,… ( a lie)

    10) And David arose, and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath. (fear)

    12) And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath. (fear)
    13) And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard. (acting strangely)

David was on the run for his life, and “because fear hath torment,” David lied to Ahimelech the priest; he was afraid of Saul; he was afraid of Achish; and he acted strangely.

So thankful, that when fear tries to come in, all I have to do is trust in JESUS.
“What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” PS. 56:3

When fear tries to come in, Claim His Promise and Speak His Word – 2 Timothy 1:7, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

  27. “But the officers of Achish were unhappy about his being there. “Isn’t this David, the king of the land?” they asked. “Isn’t he the one the people honor with dances, singing, ‘Saul has killed his thousands, and David his ten thousands’?” David heard these comments and was very afraid of what King Achish of Gath might do to him.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭21:11-12‬ ‭NLT

  28. 11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?
12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

David at this time was being tested by the Lord to see how much faith he had in the Lord. David got afraid and let his fear take over him and didn’t put his trust in the Lord. Sometimes even when we are frightened of what might happen in your situation do not let your fear get the best of you, because it won’t get any better. You need to have faith and trust in the Lord no matter what. The lord is always protecting you

  29. 6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

  30. 8 And David said unto Ahimelech, And is there not here under thine hand spear or sword? for I have neither brought my sword nor my weapons with me, because the king’s business required haste.

9 And the priest said, The sword of Goliath the Philistine, whom thou slewest in the valley of Elah, behold, it is here wrapped in a cloth behind the ephod: if thou wilt take that, take it: for there is no other save that here. And David said, There is none like that; give it me.

10 And David arose and fled that day for fear of Saul, and went to Achish the king of Gath.

In haste, David’s of Saul caused him flee without taking the sword (the Word). The season we are living people are panicking because their lack of the word. People have heard for centuries that the rapture was going to happen and we needed to be prepared for day, But decades have passed and time has moved…people have strayed away from the church. In this season on uncertain, it our turn to take that stand and pick up our sword and join in the battle!

  31. 14 Then said Achish unto his servants, Lo, ye see the man is mad: wherefore then have ye brought him to me?

15 Have I need of mad men, that ye have brought this fellow to play the mad man in my presence? shall this fellow come into my house

Jesus touch my heart and mind in every situation I pray I am slow to anger. No man wants anyone who is angry because anger is the opposite who a Christian is. We need to be love and show love to every person. Life will come at me! Yes I understand this, but if you can’t work with what you are given how will you work when you aren’t given anything at all?

Peace comes from the Holy Ghost. We need to be in the Holy Ghost constantly seeking peace for us and others around us we know.

    Jesus Name!

  32. David is so busy running away from Saul and telling lies that he runs away to the enemy at Gath. The spirit of fear can make you do things, think things or say things that you normally wouldn’t do. There may are so many right now that are being consumed with fear of what is going on around us that they too are running in circles. God doesn’t give us the spirit of fear; so, we need to focus on what He does give us. 2 Timothy 1:7 VOICE says “You see, God did not give us a cowardly spirit but a powerful, loving, and disciplined spirit.”

  33. 2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

We need to not let fear consume us with lies and people who try to put us down. We need to trust God and he will find a way.

  34. 11 And the servants of Achish said unto him, Is not this David the king of the land? did they not sing one to another of him in dances, saying, Saul hath slain his thousands, and David his ten thousands?

12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

He was thinking he was gonna die but yet again God saved him just like if we are scared God will protect us

  35. 1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

Ahimelech didn’t realize the anointing that was upon David at this time he perceived that he was by himself, but God was with him every step of the way. We need to remember when we are worried about things in life that God is with us and he is on our side.

  36. 10 So David escaped from Saul and went to King Achish of Gath.

11 But the officers of Achish were unhappy about his being there. “Isn’t this David, the king of the land?” they asked. “Isn’t he the one the people honor with dances, singing, ‘Saul has killed his thousands,
    and David his ten thousands’?”

12 David heard these comments and was very afraid of what King Achish of Gath might do to him. NLT

    Jeremiah 17:7 (KJV)

7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the Lord, and whose hope the Lord is.

  37. “Now a certain man of the servants of Saul was there that day, detained before the Lord; and his name was Doeg, an Edomite, the chiefest of the herdmen that belonged to Saul.”
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭21:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Good or bad, there will always be someone watching what you are doing. This is why it is important for us to model our theme Live+Gove Jesus. Actions always speak louder than words, so by living Jesus we demonstrate holiness to others. When we give Jesus we demonstrate how to reach out to others so those watching can Live+Give Jesus as well. I thank God for being holy and righteous. I pray we take the time to examine ourselves, making sure we are living and givi Jesus

  38. 1 Then came David to Nob to Ahimelech the priest: and Ahimelech was afraid at the meeting of David, and said unto him, Why art thou alone, and no man with thee?

2 And David said unto Ahimelech the priest, The king hath commanded me a business, and hath said unto me, Let no man know any thing of the business whereabout I send thee, and what I have commanded thee: and I have appointed my servants to such and such a place.

Sometimes we may find ourselves in situations like this. Where you must for your life. The interesting thing is that David came to the temple, the house of the Lord. In there he found bread provision and a sword a weapon. Whatever is is that you may he going through. If you need to run, run to the house of the Lord. You will find that bread of life and he will equip you with the weapons you need for battle.

  39. “David asked Ahimelech, “Don’t you have a spear or sword here? I haven’t brought my sword or any other weapon. That’s because the king’s business had to be done right away.” The priest replied, “The sword of Goliath, the Philistine, is here. You killed him in the Valley of Elah. His sword is wrapped in a cloth. It’s behind the sacred linen apron. If you want it, take it. It’s the only sword here.” David said, “There isn’t any sword like it. Give it to me.””
    ‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭21:8-9‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Often times our previous victories can be stored up to be used a tools for the future battles.

  40. 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

Some people think our worship and giving are too demonstrative but how many times has our worship saved us .

  41. 5 And David answered the priest, and said unto him, Of a truth women have been kept from us about these three days, since I came out, and the vessels of the young men are holy, and the bread is in a manner common, yea, though it were sanctified this day in the vessel.

6 So the priest gave him hallowed bread: for there was no bread there but the shewbread, that was taken from before the Lord, to put hot bread in the day when it was taken away.

Theres a reason why we fast before communion they had to be pure and holy. its all a part of the tabernacle plan as well. we can remember when Jesus said it too take this bread as a representation as my body. The body of Christ, im so very thankful for his blood.

  42. 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.

Our walk with God is just that a walk. Every step will either be a reflection of Faith in the right direction or a missed step in the wrong way. Here we see David so close to the line that every missed step in noticed. Yet I for one cannot judge him. This is a fight I know oh so well. In this chapter he’s even reacquaint with a weapon he’s used before and won. Yet that won’t help much. It should have given him confidence yet almost out of hope gear is still louder than his faith.

All I want to scream is “David cowboy up let your faith out shine your fear! I want to say this not out of condemnation but out of encouragement. Because if Gods killed your giant before He will do it again. Different giant same God!

  43. 4 And the priest answered David, and said, There is no common bread under mine hand, but there is hallowed bread; if the young men have kept themselves at least from women.

David was in distress, he and his men fled to the tabernacle of God. It is great comfort in a day of trouble, that we have a God to go to, to whom we may open our cases, and from whom we may ask and expect direction. That’s were we find help for our situation and direction, to know how to handle it. This is the God we serve, all we have to do is go to him all the time.

  44. David, even in the wilderness is called to lead. We never know who is watching us as we go through the storms of life.

  45. “Then Achish said to his servants, ‘Look, you see the man is insane. Why have you brought him to me? Have I need of madmen that you have brought this fellow to play the madman in my presence? Shall this fellow come into my house?” 1 Samuel 21:14–15
In this verse I come to understand that David realized he hadn’t gotten away from Achish by what he thought was a last minute, quick thinking but really it was because God was taking care of him. God was the faithful one, and would have been faithful the whole time if David had only let Him. This was the beginning of David’s realization that brought full repentance. David lost some of his self respect but escaped with his life. He should have trusted God from the very beginning it would have saved him from embarrassing himself. When God says something to us we should believe always trust and believe Him. He is the only one that can save us from anything.

  46. 12 And David laid up these words in his heart, and was sore afraid of Achish the king of Gath.
13 And he changed his behaviour before them, and feigned himself mad in their hands, and scrabbled on the doors of the gate, and let his spittle fall down upon his beard.

Sometimes a change of behavior is what we need to do to appease or to get through a rough journey. It may not be easy or it may be out of our normal character, however A change of character and the right behavior could make a world of difference in any troubled situation.

  47. It’s strange how sometimes other people see what is going to happen before you realize it. In this case David knew he had been anointed king but Saul was still the king in charge. Other people didn’t know he was to be king but they were already talking about him as the king and sharing it with him.
