2 Samuel 2
1 And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
2 So David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail Nabal’s wife the Carmelite.
3 And his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.
4 And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.
5 And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
8 But Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul’s host, took Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;
9 And made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.
10 Ishbosheth Saul’s son was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.
11 And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.
12 And Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ishbosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.
13 And Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met together by the pool of Gibeon: and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.
14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.
15 Then there arose and went over by number twelve of Benjamin, which pertained to Ishbosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.
16 And they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow’s side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkathhazzurim, which is in Gibeon.
17 And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18 And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.
19 And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.
20 Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.
21 And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.
22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?
23 Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
24 Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?
27 And Joab said, As God liveth, unless thou hadst spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone up every one from following his brother.
28 So Joab blew a trumpet, and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.
29 And Abner and his men walked all that night through the plain, and passed over Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and they came to Mahanaim.
30 And Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David’s servants nineteen men and Asahel.
31 But the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner’s men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.
32 And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

David continues to seek guidance from the Lord as he inquires as to where he should go from here, after the death of Saul. Psalm 37:23 AMP “The steps of a [good and righteous] man are directed and established by the Lord, And He delights in his way [and blesses his path].” Psalm 32:8 AMP also says “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you [who are willing to learn] with My eye upon you.” Always seek the Lord and bring everything to your altar in order for Him to guide you iin the direction He wants you to go. JESUS today YOU will SAVE me.

When you enquire of the Lord, and follow His directives, it opens up doors for you to walk in His will and what He has planned for your life.

11 Samuel 2
The Lord said, “Go up.”
David asked, “Where shall I go?”
To continue In the steps of God David had to be able to hear the voice of God. When he heard the Lord speak to “Go up” he didn’t just go where he wanted to . But he asked the question where shall I go. I rio believe that the steps of each of us can be ordered by God . Yet we must be willing to ask Where she’ll I go and then we must ge willing to adhere to where God has called us to. David was about to become King and God knew exactly where he should rule. Will we allow God to lead us . Will I submit to His voice .
Jesus be the Lord of all my life .

Each one grabbed his opponent by the hair and thrust his sword into the other’s side so that all of them died. So this place at Gibeon has been known ever since as the Field of Swords. A fierce battle followed that day, and Abner and the men of Israel were defeated by the forces of David.
2 Samuel 2:16-17
11Sam.2-10-11 [ amp] Ish- bosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he began his two – year reign over Israel. But the house of Judah followed David.
[ 11] And David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah for seven years and six months.
We must be careful who we follow or follow after.
People will try to lead you the wrong way.
David still was guided by Jesus.
We must keep our eyes on focus on Jesus.
Only Jesus will guide us where he wants us to go.
Jesus to Day you Will save Me.
“After this, David asked the Lord, “Should I move back to one of the towns of Judah?” “Yes,” the Lord replied. Then David asked, “Which town should I go to?” “To Hebron,” the Lord answered. David’s two wives were Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. So David and his wives and his men and their families all moved to Judah, and they settled in the villages near Hebron. Then the men of Judah came to David and anointed him king over the people of Judah. When David heard that the men of Jabesh-gilead had buried Saul,”

David didn’t want to appear opportunistic, as if he only came back to Israel because Saul was dead. While not being overly concerned with appearances before man, he was not unconcerned with appearances either.
14 And Abner said to Joab, Let the young men now arise, and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise
well their definition of play and our definition of play is completely different!!!
6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.
David valued his kingship over Israel, he was anointed as a child and as an adult to be king oh, he fled for his life for a duration of his younger days from the previous King, end of the fight for it after he was anointed the second time. Just because we’ve been promised something by God doesn’t mean we don’t have to fight for it. It doesn’t mean that there won’t be challenges oh, it just means that God’s going to complete his word if we continue to pursue it. The harder we have to fight for something the more we appreciate it and less likely to take it for granted. While we do know of his mistake with Bathsheba, most of David’s kingship over Israel was spent building and uniting Israel El cucuy other places for the Lord. The heart of the fight is the more it’s worth it but just as we taught our children yesterday and Sunday School 1 plus God equals the majority
David can complete more of his mission now, Saul is gone. David is a man after God’s own heart. I love the word!

It didn’t matter what situation Dave was in. He always asked the Lord for guidance first. How much easier & nicer life in this world would be if all people inquired and followed Gods will first.

David is a great example of going to the Lord for council. We must note that even though David went to the Lord, there was still war and death. We must remember that just because we are in the will of God doesn’t mean everything will go our way

David equired the Lord before he made his next move. He let the Lord compass his life. A lot of times when things happen or certain events unfold we find ourselves lost not knowing which road to take next. In the previous chapter David was devastated from the loss of two important people in his life. I can imagine he was feeling a bit confused on what he should do next. David ask the Lord where do I go, what do I do, and followed through. Let the Lord be our compass and guidance through every situtaion. His word is a road map and let prayer be the transport.
And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
7 Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

I learned that David asked god first . We should ask god first.
And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

Always seek God’s guidance in every situation.
Proverbs 3:5,6 Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all the ways knowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Hallelujah! To seek the will of GOD is key to any believer. Hearing and obeying HIS voice will save you from a lot of trouble caused by thy own ways of living.

CEASE FIRE
26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?
Conflict is taxing in many areas. Emotional, spiritual and physical. Leaders will recognize the damage and dangers of conflict and call for an end, resolve or cease fire. A cease fire is not a treaty or agreement between the conflicting parties, but an effort to end the damage until a lasting resolve can be agreed upon by both parties.
Abner recognized the damage that was becoming of the conflict. The deep roots of bitterness that arose between the parties. Then asked a simple question that caused an end to the immediate battle.
May the Spirit of the LORD JESUS lead us to resolve conflict before it progresses to a bitter end of families and cause many wounds and casualties. Whatever the conflict, may we call for a CEASE FIRE to ask wisdom from GOD to resolcve the conflict.

David did not allow his being anointed as king over Judah to interfere with his relationship with his KING. He still inquired of the Lord for daily direction and waited for the answer. His steps were daily ordered of the Lord, which is what the WORD speaks to us to follow as well.
How many heartaches would we be saved from if we would just daily practice inquiring and seeking our direction from the Lord? Life is busy, but we must learn to quiet ourselves in HIS presence, and seek HIS counsel daily.

Therefore came I forth to meet thee, diligently to seek thy face, and I have found thee.

And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.

Enquire and confirm. David wanted to be sure he was taking the right steps, in the right direction. Sometimes we just take off or get side tracked and end up walking off the path God has set for us, but we have to seek the Lord. When we seek Him, we can always be sure we’re walking in the Will of God.

It was the right time for David to assume the position that he had long been anointed for. He was going to take his rightful place on the throne and be king. The greatest example of humility that David showed toward God, he enquired of the Lord of which way to proceed. He was to go up to Judah by way of Hebron. This is also a great example of how no matter how much the enemy will try to go against the anointed, they will buck the anointed of God. The men that buried Saul were shown respect by David.
Ishbosheth was made king over Israel. This was the son of Saul, but was not the chosen lineage to continue holding the throne. No matter what man says, God will always have the final say in every situation. But David followed the word of God. We have to be mindful that no matter how we are going where God wants us, there will always be opposition. We must not be fretful because God orders the steps of the righteous. Continue to live Jesus until the trumpet sounds and we will be able to be the example for those that need God.

David ask God before he took a step. He knew that without God things will crumble. He made sure he was standing in solid foundation and for that you need God!! In the same way we must consort with our God before we take a step into life. Life is very difficult as it is, without Jesus is even worse. I think David knew that God had to be King over him before he could be king over Israel. Thank you Jesus for being our King of kings and Lord of lords!!!!

“David inquired of the Lord”
I believe this was the key to David’s success. With a few exceptions; he continually inquired of the Lord.
David wanted more than God’s blessing on his plans; he wanted to be right in the middle of God’s plan.
Too often, we make our own plans and then ask God to bless them. Instead of FIRST asking God what His plans for us are.
“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 KJV
““As God lives,” said Joab, “if you hadn’t spoken up, we’d have kept up the chase until morning!” Then he blew the ram’s horn trumpet and the whole army of Judah stopped in its tracks. They quit chasing Israel and called off the fighting.”
2 Samuel 2:27-28 MSG
Sometimes, it’s best to say Okay. Joab had just lost his brother and was adamant on pursuing after Abner to seek revenge. However, that is not our job. Leviticus 19:18 says “Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord.”
God has perfect timing because I found myself battling this very situation this morning. A friend had been wronged and Ashley wanted to get in the way and go off. BUT. I read my blog first, thank God!
We should show love just as Jesus shows us the greatest love. When we feel ourselves taking matters into our own hands, recognize it is a time to take action. Not against who has wronged you but against the spirit of division.
I thank God for the insight He provides when we read His Word. I pray as the body of Christ, we are unified and on one accord – living and giving Jesus!
God will put us in places and lead us in the right direction if we listen to him .and obey him . David asked God awnserd.

When making a decision we must always ask The Lord for direction. He is the one that knows the future, and he knows what is ahead.
In this chapter…So David went up there with his two wives, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal of Carmel. David also took the men who were with him, each with his family, and they settled in Hebron and its towns. Then the men of Judah came to Hebron, and there they anointed David king over the tribe of Judah.
There will only be one king in Israel and that king would be King David. For a nation which has two kings cannot stand. Nor can our nation stand under two opinions. We must stand for righteousness in Jesus name .
2 Samuel 2:26-27
[26]Abner shouted down to Joab, “Must we always be killing each other? Don’t you realize that bitterness is the only result? When will you call off your men from chasing their Israelite brothers?”
[27]Then Joab said, “God only knows what would have happened if you hadn’t spoken, for we would have chased you all night if necessary.”
These 2 verses remind me of what is going on in nation today. We need to pray for our nation and community
The world needs Jesus today. Jesus I pray for peace in our homes, our families, our nation and our communities. I speak peace over every situation. In Jesus name. Amen

Before ever making a decision in our life, we should always take it to the LORD in Prayer. We should enquire (ask) of the LORD for guidance and direction; we should wait on HIM for the answer; and then we should obey HIS Word.
BUT
Oh, how our flesh likes to get in the way and take control and do our own thing.
This is why we need to put our flesh under subjection, and walk in the Spirit, because when we walk in the Spirit, we will follow God’s Will for our life and not our own will.
Enquire!
Wait!
Obey!
What a great lesson from God.
We must ask God always where we should go and be. Jesus will direct us which way to go. If we are not with God he can’t direct us!

David asked the Lord do I go up there and then he asked where to go.
we can take notes and learn from David in our lives our everyday life. when we wake up every morning ask God can I and where to go and he will lead.
“Therefore now let your hands be strengthened, and be ye valiant: for your master Saul is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.”

David knew that he needed brave men like these to secure and advance his kingdom, especially in the turmoil sure to surround his ascension to the throne.
This world needs brave men and woman to advance His kingdom in this days of caos all around.
Again Abner shouted to him, “Get away from here! I don’t want to kill you. How could I ever face your brother Joab again?” But Asahel refused to turn back, so Abner thrust the butt end of his spear through Asahel’s stomach, and the spear came out through his back. He stumbled to the ground and died there. And everyone who came by that spot stopped and stood still when they saw Asahel lying there.

When going after the enemy we must be shure that the Lord is with us. We can sometimes be chasing an enemy that has the skill and ability to destroy us and if we dont wait on the Lord he will succeed. When we try to fight against an enemy that is greater than us with our own strength it can be dangerous. With Him we will be victorious.
And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabeshgilead were they that buried Saul.

David’s heart was so eager to please God, that not only is he asking permission, but also asking to what extent, or where.
Many times I have prayed asking Jesus for permission, but all too often I get in too much of a hurry to wait for the answer, much less for where or to what extent. Think about your prayers, and when you asked Jesus, but didn’t wait, or didn’t spend enough time to get clear full directions. How might things have turned out differently if you had waited?
It’s only by His grace and mercy that I am still here to continue to work to get it right.

David’s relationship with God is topknot. He not only asked if he should go he also enquirer where should he go. As me and women of God it is our responsibility to commune with God. He desires to give us direction we just have to ask him and be willing to listen and obey.
Don’t mess with my brother!
“Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.”

These guys defended there family.
This example should be learned throughout the church, Don’t mess with my brother. There is a lie going around that if you are a Christian you don’t fight… WRONG . We are to defend our church our brothers. When an enemy comes in like a flood, I will raise a standard against him, our family and church family matter the most. We have to defend what God has given us. Just like Joab, someone has got a bad day if they mess with my brother.
Are You Willing to Go
1And it came to pass after this, that David enquired of the Lord, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And the Lord said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.
The Lord gave David instructions to follow and David was willing. Sometimes it might not be something you want to do, but it is needed. God’s plan always works out.
When we’re willing to put our own feelings to the side to follow God’s plan we will see things begin to work out. It may not be right away, but in due time it will happen. We serve an amazing God.

A true leader.
“So it happened after this that David inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go up into one of the cities of Judah?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up.” David asked, “Where shall I go?” And He said, “To Hebron.” So David went up there [to Hebron] with his two wives also, Ahinoam of Jezreel and Abigail the widow of Nabal of Carmel [in Judah].”

David sought the lord before he did anything. He got confirmation from god before he made a move. Sometimes we want to go out and do our own thing without seeking him first. We must remember that we need to seek first the kingdom of god and make sure we take heed to what is being said. There is no point in seeking and asking for something if we are just going to make our own decisions. The whole point is asking is because you need guidance. Let’s remember to always consult god and to listen to what is being told of us.
“Abner shouted down to Joab, “Must we always be killing each other? Don’t you realize that bitterness is the only result? When will you call off your men from chasing their Israelite brothers?” Then Joab said, “God only knows what would have happened if you hadn’t spoken, for we would have chased you all night if necessary.””

When we realized that God is our side we should realize that sin cause death and should reach out and help people understand the Lord

This Chapter means that, David was crowned King Of Judah. And their was battle between Israel and Judah. Which Abner killed Joab’s brother
5 And David sent messengers unto the men of Jabeshgilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of the Lord, that ye have shewed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.
6 And now the Lord shew kindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.
The Lords kindness is like no other, He is kind enough to forgive us even when we’ve messed up over and over again, He’s kind enough to wake us up in the morning when we’ve given Him no reason to, He’s just kind.
17 And there was a very sore battle that day; and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.
18 And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.
We won’t win every battle, but we will win in the end. Sometimes life will hit us hard but it will work out. Remember only what you do for Christ will last.
32 And they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Bethlehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and they came to Hebron at break of day.

I would like to call this developing good habits. We have seen how time and time again David has enquired of the Lord of his next move before he takes action. In matters of great weight over a situation he did not leave the Lord out from his decisions. After Ziclag was attacked and their possessions taken, David asked. Now we seen another major event, Saul, pretty much David’s adversary was now removed. So what does David do? Asks what is his next step. We should consider asking always to the one that knows all things. He will direct your. It’s his desire that we are led by him. All we have to do is listen and obey.

I know for myself I need these simple reminders when reading the word of God.
A reminder that this too shall pass.
A reminder that this season won’t last forever.

“Ish-bosheth, Saul’s son, was forty years old when he became king over Israel, and he reigned for two years. But the house of Judah followed David. And the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.”

David was next in line for the throne as appointed by God. However, Ish-bosheth was also appointed, but not by God, but by man. Abner appointed him king and his time only lasted two years. However, David’s outlasted his and his army was also mightier. This just goes to prove that God’s way is always best and if you choose to wait on God and ignore what man instructs you to do your life will be blessed more than what you are capable of making it.
22 And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?
23 Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.
24 Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.
25 And the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one troop, and stood on the top of an hill.
26 Then Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?
your adversary isn’t going to stop
The best solution for you is to continue to look to the hills towards the Lord because you can guarantee after looking behind you, you will always have an adversary. Sometimes we have no idea why and sometimes we have every idea why. Just look towards the heavens and let the Lord fight your battle.
After this, David asked the Lord , “Should I move back to one of the towns of Judah?” “Yes,” the Lord replied. Then David asked, “Which town should I go to?” “To Hebron,” the Lord answered. David’s two wives were Ahinoam from Jezreel and Abigail, the widow of Nabal from Carmel. So David and his wives and his men and their families all moved to Judah, and they settled in the villages near Hebron.

David didn’t go running back home after the death of Saul. He sought council from the Lord before making a move.
How much trouble could we avoid if we looked to the Lord for answers before making decisions?
“And the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, That the men of Jabesh–gilead were they that buried Saul.”
2 Samuel 2:4 KJV
The men from the house of Judah anointed David king before they told him who took Saul. They had to ensure that he was their authority/covering,/head/king before they would do old he sensitive information. You shouldn’t tell everyone all your secrets. You should save some things for just your authority.

After Saul and Jonathon’s death, David asked the LORD if he and his men should inhabit any of the cities of Judah, where he used to rome freely. The LORD told him to go to Hebron. So he took his family, and his men and their families, and settled in Hebron, where David was anointed king of Judah.
When the people of Hebron told King David that it was the people of Jabesh-gilead that buried Saul, he blessed them and promised them a reward. Then he told them to be strong and valiant, because Saul was dead and he, David, was king.
But the commander of Saul’s army, Abner son of Ner, anointed Saul’s son, Ishbaal, king of Gilead and over all Israel. David remained king over Judah for seven and a half years, while Ishbaal served Israel two years.
Ishbaal, Abner son of Ner and Ishbaal’s soldiers went from Mahanaim, where Ishbaal was anointed king, to the pond at Gibeon.
Meanwhile, Joab son of Zeruiah, commander of David’s army, and David’s troops, also arrived at the pond of Gibeon. The two armies confronted each other there and then fought the battle.
As the battle started, it was agreed by Abner son of Ner and Joab son of Zeruia to to engage twelve (12) men from each side to have a contest. All those men died by grabbing each other by the head and then striking each other in his side, falling down together, which is why the name of the location is called Helkathhazzurin in Gibeon to this day. The battle was very fierce that day and David’s troops defeated Abner and the Israelites.
All three of Zeruiah’s sons were there: Joab, Abishai and Asahel. Asahelran quickly, pursuing Abner and staying close behind him. Abner looked back and asked Asahel if he was following him. Asahel said, Yes, I am. Abner told Asahel to follow one of the men Asahel was passing and kill him instead. But Asahel continued to pursue Abner.
Abner told Asahel, again, to stop pursuing him and threatened to kill him, trying to sway Asahel by having him to consider how Joab would feel toward him, Abner, after Abner had killed Asahel. But Asahel continued to pursue him, so Abner killed him with a spear, sticking it clear through his body. When the rest of the army arrived and found Asahel dead, they paused before continuing to pursue the Israelites.
Joab and Abishai pursued Abner however, and as the sun was going down they all came to the hill of Ammah, which lies before Giah on the way to the wilderness of Gibeon.
The Benjaminites gathered around Abner in a single line, defending themselves from the top of a hill.
Then Abner addressed Joab, questioning him about whether he was going to pursue and slaughter the Israelites forever, between them and Judah.
Joab answered, As God is my Witness, if you had not asked, we would have pursued our kindsmen until morning. Whereupon Joab sounded the trumpet signaling all the people of Judah to stop pursuing and fighting the Israelites.
Abner and his men marched all that night through the Arabah. They crossed the Jordan and, marching until noon, they got to Mahanain.
When Joab gathered the army and counted those left, twenty men were missing, including Asahel.
David’s army had killed three hundred sixty Benjaminites of Abner’s men. After that, they took Asahel to be buried in his father’s tomb in Bethlehem. After the burial, they marched all night, reaching Hebron as a new day started.

David’s first care is to know the Divine will of God. His inquiry was, doubtless, because the answer definitely directed him to go up to Hebron. God help us to do your will all the time.
1 After all this, David prayed. He asked God, “Shall I move to one of the cities of Judah?” God said, “Yes, move.” “And to which city?” “To Hebron.”
When we are submitted to God and his will he will continually guide our steps on where to go. Stay on track to seek God and if you fall He is always right there to keep you on your way.
7 Now that Saul is dead, I ask you to be my strong and loyal subjects like the people of Judah, who have anointed me as their new king.”
We all need authority. If there is no authority, then there is no rule/law over us. But God is our head authority, we have to put God at the very top. Everyone else comes below. We all have to honor and respect those in authority.
David is one of the best examples of God’s Grace, mercy, forgiveness and favor. David was human and although he was the apple of God’s eye, he failed God many many times! YET through it all, He blessed David and loved him always! Sometimes I know myself that I have struggled with totally submitting to God’s Will, especially when I don’t understand or see the path in front of me. In those seasons of my uncertainty is when He is asking me to “obey” even if my faith is too weak! God knows our flesh and sees our weakness YET He died and conquered Hell so that we could have life abundantly but we must humble ourselves to His authority even when we can’t see the outcome!
