1 Chronicles Chapter 9 – Chronological

So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.

Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims.

And in Jerusalem dwelt of the children of Judah, and of the children of Benjamin, and of the children of Ephraim, and Manasseh;

Uthai the son of Ammihud, the son of Omri, the son of Imri, the son of Bani, of the children of Pharez the son of Judah.

And of the Shilonites; Asaiah the firstborn, and his sons.

And of the sons of Zerah; Jeuel, and their brethren, six hundred and ninety.

And of the sons of Benjamin; Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Hodaviah, the son of Hasenuah,

And Ibneiah the son of Jeroham, and Elah the son of Uzzi, the son of Michri, and Meshullam the son of Shephathiah, the son of Reuel, the son of Ibnijah;

And their brethren, according to their generations, nine hundred and fifty and six. All these men were chief of the fathers in the house of their fathers.

10 And of the priests; Jedaiah, and Jehoiarib, and Jachin,

11 And Azariah the son of Hilkiah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Zadok, the son of Meraioth, the son of Ahitub, the ruler of the house of God;

12 And Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pashur, the son of Malchijah, and Maasiai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer;

13 And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

14 And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;

16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

17 And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;

18 Who hitherto waited in the king’s gate eastward: they were porters in the companies of the children of Levi.

19 And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the Lord, were keepers of the entry.

20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the Lord was with him.

21 And Zechariah the son of Meshelemiah was porter of the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

22 All these which were chosen to be porters in the gates were two hundred and twelve. These were reckoned by their genealogy in their villages, whom David and Samuel the seer did ordain in their set office.

23 So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the Lord, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.

24 In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.

25 And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.

26 For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

27 And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.

28 And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.

29 Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.

30 And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.

31 And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.

32 And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.

33 And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.

34 These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.

35 And in Gibeon dwelt the father of Gibeon, Jehiel, whose wife’s name was Maachah:

36 And his firstborn son Abdon, then Zur, and Kish, and Baal, and Ner, and Nadab.

37 And Gedor, and Ahio, and Zechariah, and Mikloth.

38 And Mikloth begat Shimeam. And they also dwelt with their brethren at Jerusalem, over against their brethren.

39 And Ner begat Kish; and Kish begat Saul; and Saul begat Jonathan, and Malchishua, and Abinadab, and Eshbaal.

40 And the son of Jonathan was Meribbaal: and Meribbaal begat Micah.

41 And the sons of Micah were, Pithon, and Melech, and Tahrea, and Ahaz.

42 And Ahaz begat Jarah; and Jarah begat Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begat Moza;

43 And Moza begat Binea; and Rephaiah his son, Eleasah his son, Azel his son.

44 And Azel had six sons, whose names are these, Azrikam, Bocheru, and Ishmael, and Sheariah, and Obadiah, and Hanan: these were the sons of Azel.

  1. When we experience God’s Grace is something Worthy – whatever we do give him Glory . It’s about his love and mercy daily . Boldly, expressively live give Jesus to impact influence the world around you

    The four chief gatekeepers, all Levites, were trusted officials, for they were responsible for the rooms and treasuries at the house of God. They would spend the night around the house of God, since it was their duty to guard it and to open the gates every morning.
    1 Chronicles 9:26‭-‬27

  2. 1 Chronicles 9
    2 Now the first inhabitants that dwelt in their possessions in their cities were, the Israelites, the priests, Levites, and the Nethinims. It mentions 3 groups of people to inhabit the cities. We know the first two names the Israelites, Levites, and Nethinims The third name means servants of the Levites.or priests. Ezraa 8:17, 20 The rest of the scriptures are genealogies and positions concerning the temple positions and labor. Jesus is the God of order. when the 1000 year reign of Jesus starts He will give responsibilities to those who will arrive on earth at His second coming with Him. For those of us who have responsibilities may we also do them as unto the Lord.

    • I wanted to give us scriptures concerning the Kingdom of God and our responsibilities.
      Revelations 5:9-10 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;
      And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

  3. I want to be like Eleazar because God was with him. 1700 able bodied men were prepared to look after and take care of the house of God. Wow sounds like some good times.

  4. 19 And Shallum the son of Kore, the son of Ebiasaph, the son of Korah, and his brethren, of the house of his father, the Korahites, were over the work of the service, keepers of the gates of the tabernacle: and their fathers, being over the host of the Lord, were keepers of the entry.

    Gates are mentioned often in Scripture, and gatekeepers were an important part of maintaining order in ancient societies. Gatekeepers were guards stationed for protection at various kinds of gates, which could be city gates, palace gates, or temple gates. Ancient cities had high, thick walls around them to keep out wild beasts and invading armies. Heavy gates were set within those walls to allow entrance and exit.

    A gatekeeper had to be trustworthy and alert for any signs of trouble. A gatekeeper lax in his duties could bring ruin upon an entire civilization, so the idea of gatekeeping implies alertness and security. In a way, the church is called to be the GateKeeper to the lost, the bishop is the man at the watchtower while everyone else maintain security and the protection over those that are finding their way home. The longer I’ve been in church the more I see the attacks against newcomers and how important it is to protect and prepare them for their walk with Christ.

  5. 14 And of the Levites; Shemaiah the son of Hasshub, the son of Azrikam, the son of Hashabiah, of the sons of Merari;

    15 And Bakbakkar, Heresh, and Galal, and Mattaniah the son of Micah, the son of Zichri, the son of Asaph;

    16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

    17 And the porters were, Shallum, and Akkub, and Talmon, and Ahiman, and their brethren: Shallum was the chief;

    This set of scripture gathered the responsibilities of those that were employed from the gate porters to the workers inside the tabernacle. They were very important jobs that were assigned to the Levites after returning from exile. They had the responsibility to keeping the tabernacle exactly the way God told Moses. These were great responsibilities that had lacked long enough.

    I find that no matter the job, how great or how little the responsibility was, it was important to maintain. We have the great opportunity to work in the house of God. We have to prioritize our list of priorities so that we can be pleasing to God. If we place the kingdom of God first then God will let blessings that we desire come to fruition. We have to be about the kings business in this end time period, because if we want to make the church the greatest Apostolic endtime church, we have to get busy. We can not worry about those that do not want to be used but we ourselves have to get our job done. We have to be that example to others regardless of what others think. We have to remember that with great power comes great responsibility. Live Jesus to give Jesus.

  6. 13 And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.

    God is looking for people that are willing and able. He’s not the kind of God to make you serve him. The individual must do it with a willing heart. They will not care about what others think of them when it comes down to serving God.

    People who do things that they do not really want to do, often do a bad job at it or do not finish the work. This is why when it comes to the work of God, you must be willing first and then able. You might be willing to do a certain job in the church, but you don’t have that ability to actually perform the job. God gives us jobs according to our ability. So, if you have been called to do something, that means God knows that you are able to get the job done. Don’t doubt God, trust in him with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.

  7. “and their relatives, heads of their fathers’ households, 1,760—very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭9:13‬ ‭AMP‬‬

    One thing about the KINGDOM OF GOD that every you see there is a ministry waiting on you at POFW. No one is ever excluded, all are welcomed with open arms to serve. Thank you all who serve to further His Kingdom for such a time as this.

  8. 26 For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.
    27 And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.

    In this chapter we get a little more insight to the responsibilities they had. Everyone had a job, had a place to serve. When everyone works and serves as they should the body will be united and ready as whole to serve and receive what God has.

  9. 25 “And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.”
    26 “For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.”
    ‭27 “And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them.”
    28 “And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.”
    ‭29 “Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.”
    30 “And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.”
    ‭31 “And Mattithiah, one of the Levites, who was the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.”
    ‭32 “And other of their brethren, of the sons of the Kohathites, were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.”
    33 “And these are the singers, chief of the fathers of the Levites, who remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.”
    34 “These chief fathers of the Levites were chief throughout their generations; these dwelt at Jerusalem.”

    Come and take your please at the church everybody has a job in church. Come and become the first chief father of your lineage to all your generations. It will be the best decision you have ever done in your tire life.

  10. “And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭9:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Everyone had a capacity to serve the house of God. For as much of what is seen upfront – the priests giving sacrifices, keepers of the gates, etc – there was a considerable amount of work that happened behind the scenes as well. Everybody’s job may be different but they were all done to reach the common goal of glorifying God and His house. That is how we should see our ministry or any opportunity we have to serve. The job might not be glamorous but we don’t serve , we serve to glorify the King and His Kingdom.

    I thank God for the opportunities I have to serve Him. I pray we always see the value of serving

    Just like it’s our responsibility to serve wherever it’s needed in the church.
    It’s a priviledge to serve the house of my lord.

    There are many opportunities to serve the Lord. We must be willing to serve to the best of our ability no matter what the task.

  14. These people were grouped by “ministries” some where servants of the house of God, some were singers, some porters, some ministers over the vessels, all had a place and a duty.

    POFW has a place and something for everyone to do. Bishop Foster taught us in the beginning everyone needs a friend and a job when they come to POFW. We are living in strange times right now, but we must not forget the ministry we have been placed in to serve. Serving is one of the best rewards as christians we can receiving – doing something for the Kingdom, the rewards are eternal.

  15. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    RESPONSIBILITY

    24 In four quarters were the porters, toward the east, west, north, and south.
    25 And their brethren, which were in their villages, were to come after seven days from time to time with them.
    26 For these Levites, the four chief porters, were in their set office, and were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God.

    30 And some of the sons of the priests made the ointment of the spices.

    We learn from the Chronicles of the actions of the Kingdom. In the passage here we learn that people were appointed a RESPONSIBILITY and that was IT. Their RESPONSIBILITY is what they are eternally known for.

    I remember a song from when I was first Born Again that says, “Only What You Do For Christ Will Last”. This song assisted in the formation of my work ethic and habit for JESUS, HIS Kingdom and HIS Church.

    It is important to remember that when GOD appoints us a position whether through HIS Devine appointment or through HIS deleted Leader we have a RESPONSIBILITY that will be eternally considered and rewarded. This chapter reveals that these Leaders were Sold Out, Fully Committed to their RESPONSIBILITY to the LORD, Priesthood and operation of corporate Worship.

    I pray a Revival of Commitment to The Kings House in these last days. Yes we live in perilous times and will no doubt be challenged in our FAITH and Beliefs in the coming days. I choose to be remembered by my RESPONSIBILITY in The Kingdom of GOD over any other attribute.

    NKJ They and their children serving
    23 So they and their children were in charge of the gates of the house of the Lord, the house of the tabernacle, by assignment. 24 The gatekeepers were assigned to the four directions: the east, west, north, and south. 25 And their brethren in their villages had to come with them from time to time (N)for seven days. 26 For in this trusted office were four chief gatekeepers; they were Levites. And they had charge over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God. 27 And they lodged all around the house of God because [f]they had the (O)responsibility, and they were in charge of opening it every morning

    Hospitality Ministry
    The trusted office of the gatekeepers.
    Don’t ever underestimate the area you serve in the church. How important was each position . So they and their children were in charge . How beautiful a picture here in the word. Every week we see this at POFW . There is a place for everyone to serve to make a difference in the house of God . What a blessing to look around and see entire families serving .

    There is truly a place to serve ……
    28 Now some of them were in charge of the serving vessels, for they brought them in and took them out by count. 29 Some of them were appointed over the furnishings and over all the implements of the sanctuary, and over the (P)fine flour and the wine and the oil and the incense and the spices. 30 And some of the sons of the priests made (Q)the ointment of the spices.

    31 Mattithiah of the Levites, the firstborn of Shallum the Korahite, had the trusted office (R)over the things that were baked in the pans. 32 And some of their brethren of the sons of the Kohathites (S)were in charge of preparing the showbread for every Sabbath.

    33 These are (T)the singers, heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites, who lodged in the chambers, and were free from other duties; for they were employed in that work day and night.

    Oh how wonderful a place for everyone to work for the Kingdom.
    It didn’t matter if it was the gate keeper, the serving of the vessels , singing , each position was a trusted office.
    A place for everyone and everyone in place……
    Everyone important.

  17. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus the Son of God

    Last night during devotional, Isaiah’s eyes glazed over and in frustration he said, “Dad, I already know all these people”. Well, to him the names were all the same, but in reality they are from different tribes. This morning as I’m listening to these names, I get an understanding of why Matthew and Luke give the genealogy of Jesus. They want to trace the line of Jesus all the way back to King David and then trace it back all the way to Adam. There is a difference in both Matthew and Luke that many folks with glazed over eyes fail to catch. The difference in the family tree occures in the sons of David. To increase curiosity, Matthew and Luke have different sons of David listed and the names change all the way to Jesus. The answer to this great mystery is one genealogy is from his mother and one is from his step father proving that both Mary and Joseph came from King David and Jesus was the “son of David”.

  18. With the huge amount of people, organization was established. This was necessary in order to fulfill the daily duties. Everyone had a task and to complete their ministry, it was imperative that each person properly did their job. In today’s world we see things being done poorly (not of God) and the result is chaos. We must follow God and do His will, not our will. Thank you Jesus for your guidance.

  19. Some of the gatekeepers were assigned to care for the various articles used in worship. They checked them in and out to avoid any loss. Others were responsible for the furnishings, the items in the sanctuary, and the supplies, such as choice flour, wine, olive oil, frankincense, and spices.
    1 Chronicles 9:28‭-‬29 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/1ch.9.28-29.NLT

    There are so many special jobs in the Tabernacle. Each one is important. Each duty flows into the other so we’re all working in concert with each other.

  20. 1 Chronicles 9:13, “And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.”
    Scriptures tell us that some were porters; some were keepers of the gates of the tabernacle; some were over the chambers and treasuries of the house of God; some were in charge of the ministering vessels, some were to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments in the sanctuary, and of find flour, the wine and the oil, and frankincense, and the spices; some of them made the ointment of the spices; some were set over the things that were made in the pans; some were over the shewbread to prepare it every sabbath; and some were singers.

    So THANKFUL for every able man, woman, and child, who WORK and SERVE in the church for the Kingdom of God. Remember: You are ministering to others!
    Hebrews 10:6 says, “For God is not unrighteous to forget your WORK and LABOUR Of LOVE, which ye have shewed toward His Name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.”

  21. 29Others were responsible for the furnishings, the items in the sanctuary, and the supplies, such as choice flour, wine, olive oil, frankincense, and spices.

    A gatekeeper is someone who is charge of overseeing a process. Someone who maintains equipment or supplies, someone who controls people coming in or going out. Thank God for the gatekeepers who come and clean the church, who go faithfully, and who do a great job of maintaining the church.

  22. 23 So they and their children had the oversight of the gates of the house of the Lord, namely, the house of the tabernacle, by wards.

    Hallelujah!!! If you go by these descriptions of you serve in hospitality, music, cleaning crew, any other servant of the church YOU ARE A LEVITE!!!!! Thank you Jesus for Levites!!! Levites keep the church going!!! You are an important and fundamental part of the church!!! So take pride in your work for: Colossians 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.

  23. Can’t wait for phase 2 may be we can have gates from all 4 directions North, West, South, and East just like the temple!!!

  24. there is work that God calls all of us to do, and it’s laid out for us in the Bible. God makes it clear again and again that we’re to love others, care for the poor, and live our lives in such a way that we point to the power of the gospel. When we contemplate what God’s calling is for our lives, those universal commands are a great place to start.

    Matthew 6:33
    Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

  25. 1 So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.

    They were all written in the book. The number one book I want my name and generations past and to come written in is the Lambs Book of Life. They were carried away to Babylon a place of sin. Yet I wanted to be captivated by God and my name written in eternity

  26. 20 And Phinehas the son of Eleazar was the ruler over them in time past, and the Lord was with him.

    The Lord was with him to direct, and assist, and bless him in the service he did in the house of the Lord. All the priests and Levites of that time, would performed their duties, courageously and resolutely in their work, not doubting but God would stand by them as he had stood by their fathers.

    Just as we serve in the ministry, we must be sure, that the Lord is standing by us, as we performed our duties.

  27. This chapter talks about gatekeepers or security guards and their responsibilities that went round-the-clock. Sometimes we can get so busy that we may forget or get sidetracked from our responsibilities. We must be alert and keep a 24/7 surveillance upon on families and our church. There is Room in the House of God for Everybody and everybody has a job/duty to fulfill in the work of the Lord. 1 Peter 5:8-11 MSG says “Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.” So, stay alert and be united POFW.

  28. 1 Chronicles 9:1
    So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.

    I would rather be a servant in the House of the Lord than sitting on a hill in a mansion. I’d rather have Jesus than riches untold!

  29. 27 And they lodged around the house of God, for on them lay the duty of watching, and they had charge of opening it every morning.

    How blessed are we that God chose us to be used for His kingdom. Every person has a purpose for His kingdom, we must be willing to answer to it. Continually we must open ourselves up to what He has planned for us for that day.

  30. 29 Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.

    Every work counts. Whatever you do for the house of the Lord has its value and purpose. It all matters. Do it with joy as unto the Lord.

  31. So all Israel was listed in the genealogical records in The Book of the Kings of Israel. The people of Judah were exiled to Babylon because they were unfaithful to the Lord .
    1 Chronicles 9:1 NLT

    When unfaithfulness happens in our lives praise leaves and negativity comes in. We must continue to be faithful., no matter what. Praise is our greatest weapon, it confuses our enemy and overcome any obstacle.

  32. “Those who led the music lived in rooms in the temple. They were the leaders of their Levite families. Their only duty was to lead the music. They had to do that work day and night. All of them were the leaders of their Levite families. They were listed as chiefs in their family history. They lived in Jerusalem.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭9:33-34‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

    The musicians were set apart. And they also had the privilege to focused on one task, leading the music. I’m so thankful that everyone can work in the Kingdom of God.

  33. Notice that every Levite had a position or job to do. Each person was assigned to their area. This is the example of the church and the body of Christ. Every member girly joined together. I appreciate all the leaders at POFW who work and sacrifice for the Kingdom. We should all appreciate one another, it would make the church and the world a better place

  34. There is a lot of different pieces of the puzzle that go together to make the church just like there was in the old tabernacle. Every piece has to be in its place to work like it should.

  35. “Altogether, those chosen to be gatekeepers at the thresholds numbered 212. They were registered by genealogy in their villages. The gatekeepers had been assigned to their positions of trust by David and Samuel the seer. They and their descendants were in charge of guarding the gates of the house of the Lord —the house called the tent of meeting.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭9:22-23‬ ‭NIV‬‬

    This is a great example of everybody doing their part to care for God’s temple, but ultimately his Kingdom in general. Responsibilities did not fall solely in one person, or group of persons, but throughout the entire community. This is definitely a mentality we can take into God’s kingdom, it’s not just pastors duty to spread the gospel or to reach out for souls, it’s not just Sis Gully’s job to clean the church, and so forth, but we are all called to do our part and to do so with everything that’s in us.

  36. 28 And certain of them had the charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale.

    It is interesting to learn the different jobs and ministries given and distributed by God. Pastor always says it takes all of us to make the church work and this goes to prove that statement. “. . . charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring them in and out by tale. . .” Those that took care of taking the ministering vessels/articles in and out of tabernacle, they kept count or track of them coming in and out so as not to loose any. “. . . appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary, and the fine flour, and the wine, and the oil, and the frankincense, and the spices.” Then there are those that would not only keep track of the fine flour, wines, oils, and spices, but also the furnishings. Ensuring that they always were taken care of and polished and clean. Just like those in our housekeeping ministry, always cleaning and caring for all the furnishing in our own church. “. . . of the priests made the ointment of the spices.” Self explanatory. “. . . had the set office over the things that were made in the pans.” These were those that made the bread for the Sabbath, because as we know the Hebrews took “Honor the Sabbath” to the highest acknowledgment, they would not work on the Sabbath. They wouldn’t even make a meal, so these people were appointed to make the bread to eat on the Sabbath during the week, so that no one had to work on the Sabbath. “. . . were over the shewbread, to prepare it every sabbath.” Next we have those that would serve the pre-made bread on the Sabbath. “. . . these are the singers, . . . remaining in the chambers were free: for they were employed in that work day and night.” Finally, there are the singers and musicians for services. Here it mentions that they literally lived at the church, because they worked both days and nights. Yes, the Sabbath was an extremely important day of service and dedicated to God, but they had the tabernacle open with services every day of the week. We all have our part and our ministry in the church. What are you involved in helping with??

    16 And Obadiah the son of Shemaiah, the son of Galal, the son of Jeduthun, and Berechiah the son of Asa, the son of Elkanah, that dwelt in the villages of the Netophathites.

    Fun Fact:
    I enjoy reading every time Obadiah was mentioned in the Bible. To think that the Book of Obadiah is the shortest book in the Bible. It is one chapter and only twenty-one verses long. As a child when I attempted to read the yearly commitment of the “Read the Bible in a year”, I would always start with Obadiah, because it was so short. Then I could say I had already knocked out a whole book. Also, when I was younger I would wonder why even put this book in the Bible if it was so small. But once I was older I realized that, yes, it may not have been a huge chapter, but obviously important enough to be put within the sixty-six books. His story still needed to be heard and read by someone/multiple someones.

  37. 1 So all Israel were reckoned by genealogies; and, behold, they were written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah, who were carried away to Babylon for their transgression.

    It’s not uncommon to have a book of names. I think we should all have a list of people to pray for people we wanna see filled with the Holy Ghost and people who are new in the Holy Ghost.

  38. “And their brethren, heads of the house of their fathers, a thousand and seven hundred and threescore; very able men for the work of the service of the house of God.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭9:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    very able men for the work of the service of the house of God

    Sometimes we say we want to serve God, but our actions don’t agree. It’s when our feet and our words match that we impact the world around us the most. We must speak the desire with our mouths and fulfill the actions with our hands and feet.
