1 Chronicles Chapter 11 – Chronological

Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which is Jebus; where the Jebusites were, the inhabitants of the land.

And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David.

And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about: and Joab repaired the rest of the city.

So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lordconcerning Israel.

11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.

12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.

13 He was with David at Pasdammim, and there the Philistines were gathered together to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines.

14 And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance.

15 Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the host of the Philistines encamped in the valley of Rephaim.

16 And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem.

17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord.

19 And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

20 And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.

21 Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.

23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.

25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.

26 Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

27 Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite,

28 Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abiezer the Antothite,

29 Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite,

30 Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite,

31 Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, that pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite,

32 Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite,

33 Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite,

34 The sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shage the Hararite,

35 Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur,

36 Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite,

37 Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai,

38 Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Haggeri,

39 Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite, the armourbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah,

40 Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite,

41 Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai,

42 Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite, a captain of the Reubenites, and thirty with him,

43 Hanan the son of Maachah, and Joshaphat the Mithnite,

44 Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jehiel the sons of Hothan the Aroerite,

45 Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite,

46 Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite,

47 Eliel, and Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite.

  1. 1 Chronicles 11
KING DAVID had deep respect from his mighty men. This found in the above passages. These men heard the king say that he would like a drink of water from Bethlehem well. The mighty men went through the enemy’s lines and drew the water and brought it to David, King David did not drink it due to the potential of death it took to draw it. May we serve Jesus with fear, and respect as our King, redeemer, and God.

  2. 1 Chronicles 11:1–3

David was not a perfect man, but he was still labeled as a “man after God’s heart! King David surrounded himself with mighty men, so that every battle would be won!

  3. Verse 10 NIV “These were the chiefs of David’s mighty warriors—they, together with all Israel, gave his kingship strong support to extend it over the whole land, as the Lord had promised—”. Same verse MSG “These are the chiefs of David’s Mighty Men, the ones who linked arms with him as he took up his kingship, with all Israel joining in, helping him become king in just the way God had spoken regarding Israel.” We too must link together and support the man of God in the work of the Lord. These warriors each had their place, their duties, their specialties; but, they worked together to bring everything together as the Lord had promised.

Colossians 3:23-24 AMP says “Whatever you do [whatever your task may be], work from the soul [that is, put in your very best effort], as [something done] for the Lord and not for men, knowing [with all certainty] that it is from the Lord [not from men] that you will receive the inheritance which is your [greatest] reward. It is the Lord Christ whom you [actually] serve.” Unity is strength

  4. 17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord.

David longed to be back in his place appointed by God. But we see him in the cave at Adullam and he was yearning for a drink of water from Bethlehem. Three mighty men of David’s broke through the ranks to get him the water he requested. At this time David was great and was surrounded by great men that knew how to battle and was not afraid to face the phillistines. He was willing to do what it was going to take not only to defeat the enemy but please God in the process. That is why he poured the water out into the Lord.

Sometimes we have to have more faith in God than we do in our friends or even our enemies. We have to be prepared to face whatever comes our way. We have to be ready to give God everything that we have even while looking into the eyes of the enemy. We have to have a yearning for God like David had for the drink of water. For the spirit of God will satisfy our souls. And we will be blessed by putting the kingdom of God first. We will reap his righteousness through the battle. Be an example before God and all men so they can witness the glory of God in our lives.

    3 AND 30

24 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three mighties.
25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.

I find it interesting the ranks and positions of the mighty men of David. The Chronicles record the historic and courageous deeds of these great men. But, it appears that David ranked them by their activities.

In The Kingdom of GOD we are all ONE Body, with many members and different ranks of authority. This is why SUBMISSION and OBEDIENCE is so important to King JESUS.

Accepting our call and ranking is important to our fulfillment of HIS plan and purpose. Faithful and Courageous acts get us to the 30, while Unique and Sacrifical acts get us to the 3.

JESUS had his 12 and also HIS 3: Peter, James and John. Again confirming this Kingdom principal.

I want to be in that number.

  6. “Benaiah did things like that; he was just as brave as the Three Warriors, even though he never became one of them. And he was certainly as famous as the rest of the Thirty Warriors. So David made him the leader of his own bodyguard.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:24-25‬ ‭CEV‬‬

Love the bravery of this man. But what really speaks to me is reading about the rest coming together to work as one. Everyone had a position. No one was looking just for that special ‘title’. They all worked together for a mission.

This is where the church the body of Christ comes together to labor to further His KINGDOM. We all have purpose. We’ve been called for such as a time like this. Amongst the evil and chaos in our country, there is plenty of work that needs to be done. Don’t lose your vision. You’ve been commissioned to ‘GO’

  7. 1 Chronicles 11

1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

5 And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, Thou shalt not come hither. Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

  8. 14-15 [ amp] And Elezar [ one of the Three] stood in the midst of that plot and defended it and slew the Philistines [ until his hand was weary, and his hand cleaved to the sword], and the Lord saved by a great victory and deliverance.
15 ] Three of the thirty chief men went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam, and the army of the Philistines was encamped in the Valley of Rephaim.
Eleazar son of Dodo, He was with David , when there was a battle was going on with Philistines.
I find that interesting that he was a mighty warrior like David.
When we are in a battle, God bring great victory put of it.
    Praise God.

  9. 17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

As a military leader one of the things that you want to achieve is the loyalty of your troop. We were always told that the troop makes the leader, not the leader the troop. You lead by example, with fairness, and love. If you were to reach the unity of a family, we had what was called a band of brotherhood. For that, we were taught to eat together, run together, do everything together as one. Depend on each other to the extend that if one was hurt we were all hurting. They called it an army of one. If one did something wrong we were all punished. Once you reach the level of loyalty there was nothing they wouldn’t do for each other. That is portrayed in this verses so well, they break through enemy lines just to get a drink for David. Then David shows his devotion to God but pouring it as a offering to God. His captains gave it to him, David gives it to the Lord!!!!

  10. As continues with getting the tribes of people on the right track. David has yet another group to get where God wants his people to be. Live Jesus and give Jesus. David and his mighty men of God keep thriving to do Gods will. We need slot of David’s here in this day and time.

  11. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus
It’s amazing how God took a bunch of nobodies and made them into great warriors. The mighty men are the same fellers use to be nobodies. Y’all remember a few chapters back? 1Sa 22:1 So David left Gath and escaped to the cave of Adullam. Soon his brothers and all his other relatives joined him there.
1Sa 22:2 Then others began coming—men who were in trouble or in debt or who were just discontented—until David was the captain of about 400 men.

This is where I came from as well. An absolute nobody. But one day I came over to the side of Jesus and now he has made me a child of God.

  12. 2In the past,a even when Saul was king, you were the one who really led the forces of Israel. And the LORD your God told you, ‘You will be the shepherd of my people Israel. You will be the leader of my people Israel.’

Even before David was king, people saw he was a leader. They saw leadership qualities in him. They saw Saul did not have that relationship with God, but David did. The people were ready to support and anoint David as their king. Being a leader may not be easy, but with God leading, decisions will be made easier.

  13. 2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

Something I never noticed before is that God instructed Saul to feed is people and that’s also where he failed. Saul did more than just disobeyed the man of God a couple times, he failed to take care of the people as well. Any time God puts someone over the people oh, it is with the expectation that they take care of those people, and Saul was about what best suited him at the moment, even to the point of death, he chose himself over honor. Any time someone fails to serve the people that God puts them over, they fail with God.

  14. 1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.
2 And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
3 Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the Lord; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the Lord by Samuel.

There is one thing that God cannot do and that is to lie. If God has promised you something in his word he will keep it. Trust in the lord and he will work all things for your benefit and believe in him, even when you don’t think he doing it believe that he is.

  15. “And David said with longing, “Oh, that someone would give me a drink of water from the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!” So the three broke through the camp of the Philistines, drew water from the well of Bethlehem that was by the gate, and took it and brought it to David. Nevertheless David would not drink it, but poured it out to the LORD.”
    ‭‭I Chronicles‬ ‭11:17-18‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Some may think David was ungrateful to the 3 men who risk their life to bring him water from the well in Bethlehem. However it was just the opposite because he equated the water to a blood offering and sacrificed it to the Lord.

  16. 11:9,10 so David waxed greater and greater for
The Lord of hosts was with him.
    10. AMP Now, these are the chiefs of David’s mighty men who strongly supported him in his Kingdom
Together with all Israel, to make him king in accordance with the word of the Lord concerning Israel.
    ————
…. the Lord of hosts was with him.
In many instances I notice that almost every time we read because of the Lord was with him( her) the person is increasing, always growing, always going forward, always doing good…..
For the Lord of hosts was with him.
    Many victories won..
In the middle of trials and circumstances the Lord is with us. And that makes us victorious.
The Lord is within her, she shall not be moved.
    I pray
I give thanks to the Lord
He must increase, but I must decrease.

  17. 14 “And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and the Lord saved them by a great deliverance.”

God will give you a great Vitoria where you are while you are in the place where I leave you.

  18. I Chronicles 11
Then all Israel came together to David at Hebron, saying, “Indeed we are your bone and your flesh. Also, in time past, even when Saul was king, you were the one who led Israel out and brought them in; and the LORD your God said to you, ‘You shall shepherd My people Israel, and be ruler over My people Israel.’” Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the LORD. Then they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.

Finally Israel all comes together. I’ve wondered for several years now when the third anointing over David was. I heard of a sermon and even read some notes. I even asked the minister who preached the message about the three anointings and evening he had no recall of the third anointing . But today I found it . The first anointing of David came as a young shepherd in a field tending sheep. The second came when only one tribe , the tribe of Judah . None other tribe called him King until this third anointing. Finally unity comes among Israel. It seems as if David has gone through a multitude of scrutiny to get to where his rightful position that God had intended for him even from his first anointing by Samuel in the field attending sheep. It took time, perseverance and endurance for David to finally be completely recognized as King . If David during the hardship of running for his life and even in the midst of his wrong choices and even during the chastisement from God had stopped ; he could not have led the people the way he did. Adversity, ridicule and even God’s times of disappointment in the life of David did not cause him to quit. Each obstacle continues to mature David in the position he is now in. He comes to this third anointing finally . As I continued to read the scripture he had three mighties. Never had seen that either . And wait another man rises up to assist him. Many times we look at the quantity and not the quality. I think back of David ‘s first army of men , one translation called them misfits . This was during the time David was running for his life . Now look where he is . The defeat of Saul’s evidently his last son whom 11 tribes had considered their King. But where are they now finally recognizing David was truly the King who had been winning victories! Now all of Israel came together. Is it not time for unity ? Is it not time to recognize the strength of the leadership God has placed to lead us. I think if even the rejection Jesus went through from Israel but one day they too will finally come to the realization who Jesus Christ really is.
So many times we question leadership when God was the one to anoint them to lead. How much more can be and will be when a people become united. We have a world filled with disunity and it’s time we the church define and portray unity . Whether it be 3 mighties plus another there is strength in unity .
The sign on the platform is just not for a show but a proclamation that if we truly Live Jesus we can Give Jesus . No not everything is right at this moment. No things are not normal but if we truly will proceed even in making adjustments and changes the way things have been done we will still come out victorious. Afflictions and Obstacles will increase Stability if we follow the Leader .

    Obedience and Sacrifice
Poured out to the Lord that’s true leadership.

  19. 9 So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.
10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lordconcerning Israel.

With an anounted man of God and mighty men to stand with him, we can all build up the Kingdom of God. We must serve in unity alongside one another for the purpose of His Kingdom – to seek and save the lost.

  20. 17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!

18 And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord

These men were desired to please their King, so they risk their lives to go retrieve the water that he longed for. Yet when they brought it to him, David poured it out to the Lord. David recognized the cost of that water – it could have been the lives of those three men. He recognized that water was a sacrifice for them to bring to him, so in turn He sacrificed something that he really wanted to the Lord.

Many times we sacrifice something to God that is of no value to us – it didn’t cost us anything, or has little or no value to us. The best sacrifices we can give the Lord is give Him something that cost us. I am reminded of Abraham, he was asked to give his only promised child, and he did so willingly and Isaac was given back to him.

If my sacrifice has no value to me, it will have no value to God.

  21. 10 These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lordconcerning Israel.

What is a leader with no followers?

David was a mighty man of God, but even he could not do everything on his own.

We cannot expect our pastor to do everything himself. We, as men and woman of God must be sure to do our part in building the Kingdom of God!

  22. 11 And this is the number of the mighty men whom David had; Jashobeam, an Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred slain by him at one time.
12 And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three mighties.

I think of the mighty pioneer men & women of God who went before us and established the New Testament church in the 1900’s and to our day and time. These were mighty people in prayer, signs and wonders, full of unshakeable faith, giving us the revelations of Him and the kingdom we know today. There are mighty men & women of God today all around us and I am thankful for their ministries. I am thankful for our Pastor who is also a mighty man of God! Thank you Jesus our our warriors of today!

  23. I Chronicles 11:1,2 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh. And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the Lord thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.

Psalm 78:70-72 He chose David also his servant, and took him from the sheepfolds: From following the ewes great with young he brought him to feed Jacob his people, and Israel his inheritance. So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

  24. 17. And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Beth-lehem, that is at the gate!

    18. And the three brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Beth-lehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: but David would not drink of it, but poured it out to the Lord,

    19. And said, My God forbid it me, that I should do this thing: shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? for with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it. Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

David honored their sacrifice of risking their lives for his drink of water by sacrificing something he really wanted as an offering before the Lord.

  25. 1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

God’s will for David was that he should be king over Israel, therefore, thats why king Saul wanted him dead. That’s why many had opposed David. But after Saul’s death, they knew David was the choosen one from the Lord to be their King over them.
In ministry, many will apposed you because they know God has chosen you over them. But when the Lord chooses you, He doesn’t make mistakes. So no matter how much opposition comes your way, don’t give up. God has chosen you and He will help you in your walk. Always worship Him, no matter what may come your way. Live Jesus Give JESUS 🙏🙏

  26. “Then David and all Israel went to Jerusalem (or Jebus, as it used to be called), where the Jebusites, the original inhabitants of the land, were living. The people of Jebus taunted David, saying, “You’ll never get in here!” But David captured the fortress of Zion, which is now called the City of David. David had said to his troops, “Whoever is first to attack the Jebusites will become the commander of my armies!” And Joab, the son of David’s sister Zeruiah, was first to attack, so he became the commander of David’s armies. David made the fortress his home, and that is why it is called the City of David. He extended the city from the supporting terraces to the surrounding area, while Joab rebuilt the rest of Jerusalem. And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was with him.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:4-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

David knew greatness, but he was by no means an “overnight success.” David was long prepared for the greatness he later enjoyed, and he came to the place of greatness because the LORD of hosts was with him.
In God’s plan there is almost always a hidden price of greatness. Often those who become great among God’s people experience much pain and difficulty in God’s training process.

  27. Thank you Jesus for today , another great day , another opportunity to give Jesus . God is my rock and Redeemer

And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was with him.
    1 Chronicles 11:9

  28. 1 Chronicles 11:2-3
    2) And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, thou wast he that leddest out and broughtest in Israel: and the LORD thy God said unto thee, Thou shalt feed my people Israel, and thou shalt be ruler over my people Israel.
    3) Therefore came all the elders of Israel to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before the LORD; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the word of the LORD by Samuel.

“According To The Word Of The LORD By Samuel”
    1 Samuel 16:1 & 11-13
    1) …? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite; for I have provided me a king among his sons.
    11) And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
    12) And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
    13) Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward….

As a shepherd watching over his father’s sheep, David was anointed by Samuel to be a king over Israel, but in order for David to go from being a shepherd to a king, he had to “Go Through The Process To Get To This Position.”

You may not feel like your much in the Kingdom right now, but you may be “Going Through The Process” right now to “Get To The Position” God wants you in for His Kingdom.

When others see a shepherd boy, God may see a king!!

  29. “Now these are the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who strongly supported him in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, in accordance with the word of the LORD concerning Israel.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:10‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Throughout this chapter I see one thing that is consistent, the Unity and support they had for their leader. When there is unity there is strength. With all the craziness of our present time we must have unity as a church body. We have no room for division. We must bind together and keep God first. We know troubling times are coming soon. And we must not be counted in the great falling away. Stay focused and in Unity with the King and Kingdom.

  30. David started as a sheep keeper, slew Goliath and slowly became a king. He loved the Lord and would bless Him even as he was thirsty for water. It appears that he kept the Lord 1st with him. This we should all do. Always pray, ask advice from Jesus and thank Him for everything. I am looking forward to our church body getting well and all of us back to church! Thank you Jesus for this.

  31. “And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Joab didn’t stumble upon being first to rise up against the Jebusites. He was committed to being a warrior for the Lord and committed to David. Just like Joab, if we want to be prayer warriors, ministers, or effective leaders, we aren’tjudt given these characteristics out of nowhere. It takes commitment to read our Bible everyday, pray everyday, fast, be a witness, and be in submission.

I thank God for His faithfulness. I pray we stand firm in our faith, committing ourselves to the King

  32. 16 And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem.

17 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!
I view this as what could be used as an allegory to the Word , which states something to the effect; train up a child in the ways of the Lord and when he is old he will not depart. I understand that David had not departed from the Lord, however I am calling attention to how bondage and dispair due to sin can draw one’s attion to the Lord, if they were introduced to Biblical principles as a child.

  33. 1 Chronicles 11:9
And David became more and more powerful, because the lord of Heaven’s Armies was with him.
When we draw near to God he draws near to us. Thank you for always being by our side. Our strength only comes from you. Lean not on your own understanding. Draw near to God. He loves us and only wants what is best for us

  34. “He was with David when the Philistines gathered for battle at Pas-dammim and attacked the Israelites in a field full of barley. The Israelite army fled, but Eleazar and David held their ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord saved them by giving them a great victory.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:13-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/1ch.11.13-14.nlt

In battle are you faithful with the Lord? When we are faithful and firm with Christ we are sure to win the battle like David and Eleazar when they fought. When we are not firm with the words of the Lord we can’t believe that we can win the battle. Build faith by eating his words
And by building faith in the Lord.

  35. ‘Then all Israel gathered before David at Hebron and told him, “We are your own flesh and blood.”

What a beautiful demonstration of unity! We’ve all seen shirts, and mugs that have sayings about close friends being a picked family. If you are blessed to have such friends/family, we know that our church family is just as important. And I believe that this scripture is a demonstration of how we should be with our Pastor. United. Family. Our flesh and blood.

“And David became more and more powerful, because the Lord of Heaven’s Armies was with him.” 1 Chronicles 11:1,9

    Unity is POWER.

  36. “David became greater and greater, for the LORD of hosts was with him.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:9‬ ‭AMP‬‬

If we allow god to live through us we have nothing to worry about. We can do all things through Christ which strengthens us. Let’s put god first in all that we do. All our strength is in him.

  37. So David waxed greater and greater: for the Lord of hosts was with him.

When we walk in the ways of God we will gain favor with God and man. Life’s greatness is not based on this world but the Word of God.

  38. 9-10 And David became greater and greater, for the Lord of hosts was with him. Now these are the chiefs of David’s mighty men, who gave him strong support in his kingdom, together with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.

Surround yourself with mighty men and women of God that are ready to do His work. They will help encourage and lead you to do Gods work but you can also impact them. When we seek after God He will fill us up with favor and blessings so all will see. With unity Gods power is strengthen within us to do works for His kingdom.

  39. He was with David when the Philistines gathered for battle at Pas-dammim and attacked the Israelites in a field full of barley. The Israelite army fled, but Eleazar and David held their ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord saved them by giving them a great victory.
    1 Chronicles 11:13‭-‬14 NLT

When the enemy tries to attack what means the world to you. You need to hold your ground and fight for what you love and believe in.

  40. “These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the word of the Lord concerning Israel.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

They strengthened themselves. You have to put yourself in a position to grow. If you take two seeds and out one on a stone in a dry and dark place and the other in fertile soil in a moist and sunny place, you cannot expect them to grow or develop the same. We have to put ourselves in favorable conditions too in his kingdom. There are many frustrated at their walk with God but they are not in his word. H Th why are frustrated at their growth in his kingdom but they don’t pray. They are frustrated at the lack of miracles they see but they dont fast. The principles are the same. Put yourself in position to be strengthened. Gather up all you can, the door is wide open.

  41. 1 Then all Israel gathered themselves to David unto Hebron, saying, Behold, we are thy bone and thy flesh.

I wonder what went through David’s mind when this was going on? Can you imagine the emotion he had? Did he picture all he had to go through, or was he just humbled in awe and worshipful? We are not told exactly with detail how it all went down. Yet I’m pretty sure there may have been some tears, but this time those tears might have been different. Perhaps no longer a bitter cup in the process. This time it was the fulfillment of Gods word. The promise, the calling, the purpose coming to pass. Maybe a tear of joy came. He is faithful he might have exclaimed. I may assume that he remembered that evening, perhaps a bit sweaty from being in the field all day still embossed with the smell of open fields, wool and goats hair. An honest and humble journey leading, feeding, protecting the sheep. Then he hears the yells; “David, David!!” You father calleth thee! David! The man of God has come home and he is requesting you. What’s going on he might have said? A few minutes ago he was just probably playing and singing another psalm from his heart to the One he sought after, the Lord his God. And now the prophet of the Lord was about to deliver the biggest most world shocking news of his life. “Thus saith the Lord…” as his baffled brothers watched on. And went on the word from the Lord.
“…and the Lord said, Arise anoint him: for this is he.” (1 Samuel 16:12) The beginning of the greatest promise given to a simple man. From the fields to the giant, to the kings courtroom, to the wilderness running for his life, to the cave, to battling against israel, the return and now fulfillment of Gods words over his life. A man of war, a man that was a leader, a man that sought after the Lord for direction and guidance, a man of God… fast forward to now being officially anointed King over Israel. Was it worth it David? Did every hour of pain, every tear, every moment of uncertainty, every bit of life just happening? Was it worth it?!!! Sometimes in the calling, in the process people get discouraged. People loose heart. But he wasn’t going to be king and lead over just any people. This were Gods people, this was his most treasured possession. The chosen people of the Lord. Yes I’m pretty sure at times he felt like giving up, but then like a song in the night he remembered the One his heart was after. The one he worshiped alone in the field after a long day of work. He sang, he played he worshiped.
And from the top of his lungs in a beautiful melody; “The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the path of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies. Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. ”

Surely like a song in the night he may have said I just want to worship Lord. That’s all I ever wanted to do. Never signed up for this, never ran to get a position I just want to worship you and bless your name.

And I can only imagine that’s when God said; that’s the man! That’s the man! Thats the man I want; a man after my heart…

When you choose Jesus, he will chose you.

Yet we must ask, was it worthy David, was it all worth it?

He would probably say; yes! Yes it was!! But what kept him going? Perhaps that song in the night for an audience of One. That time alone when he let all guards down and said; I just wanna worship you Lord, I just wanna give my all. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want…

For whatever the Lord says, he has already spoken it into existence. And God said… and it was so!

  42. 6 And David said, Whosoever smiteth the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain. So Joab the son of Zeruiah went first up, and was chief.

21 Of the three, he was more honourable than the two; for he was their captain: howbeit he attained not to the first three.

25 Behold, he was honourable among the thirty, but attained not to the first three: and David set him over his guard.
26 Also the valiant men of the armies were, Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

As men in the kingdom proved themselves and what they were worth to the kingdom, David would give them land, positions and name them mighty, honorable, and/or valiant. What have you done to prove yourself to the Lord?? As we pray for certain prays answered or things to go our way, maybe think, “. . . What could I do to prove myself to the Lord?” Prove yourself and He will name us mighty, honorable, and/or valiant. Use me Lord. Anoint me Lord.. Use me for your kingdom and your will.

  43. “David longed for water and said, “Oh, that someone would get me a drink of water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem!” So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew water from the well near the gate of Bethlehem and carried it back to David. But he refused to drink it; instead, he poured it out to the Lord.”
    ‭‭1 Chronicles‬ ‭11:17-18‬ ‭NIV‬‬

David’s men saw that he was thirsty so they went out of their way to make sure that he received the water his body was longing for. We should be this way with those who are thirsty for God, there are people all around us that are constantly looking for water to quench their thirst. We should be going above and beyond to make sure they receive that drink they’re looking for. When is the last time you made sure an individual was quenching their spiritual thirst?

  44. There are layers in every army. The army of God is no exception. In church is the same. There are layers in the church. Many people work and contribute but there are some that are just above others. We all have to do our part and realize that we all have a place.

  45. David remarked longingly to his men, “Oh, how I would love some of that good water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem.” So the Three broke through the Philistine lines, drew some water from the well by the gate in Bethlehem, and brought it back to David. But David refused to drink it. Instead, he poured it out as an offering to the Lord . “God forbid that I should drink this!” he exclaimed. “This water is as precious as the blood of these men who risked their lives to bring it to me.” So David did not drink it. These are examples of the exploits of the Three.
    1 Chronicles 11:17‭-‬19 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/1ch.11.17-19.NLT

Such a huge sacrifice! David didn’t have a way to give sacrifices to the Lord because they were so close to enemy camp. So this was so precious to him he gave it to God.
What do we hold dear to ourselves that could be given sacrificially to God?
Our time is precious, our family, our children, our finances, our talents that we may use for other things are all precious. But have we offered them to the Lord yet? That is a sign of a great sacrifice. When a control freak hands control over. When a parent dedicates their children to God and vows to teach them diligently. When a famous singer of secular music decides to give it all away and just use their talents to glorify the Lord… These are sacrifices that I believe warms the heart of the Lord and can sow, pour into, and advance His Kingdom❤️

In God’s plan there is almost always a hidden price of greatness. Often those who become great among God’s people experience much pain and difficulty in God’s training process.

  47. 22 Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts; he slew two lionlike men of Moab: also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day.

23 And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature, five cubits high; and in the Egyptian’s hand was a spear like a weaver’s beam; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

Your adversary is no match for Jesus my King.
Jesus can take down anybody and anything. You shouldn’t worry about something staying or sticking around when it shows up because Gods gonna take care of it all. Put your worries in the hands that cast worries away
