Psalm Chapter 23 – Chronological

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  1. The Lord protects me, He guides me, what is there for me to ask for? Because He provides all I need before I even speak it to Him. He gives me comfort in my rest, He provides peace during all times. He refills me with His Spirit, He renews my Soul when it feels it is failing. He leads me into good things to show His love and so I can proclaim His power. Even when I am in the midst of chaos, I will not be afraid because I know He is by me, He will protect me, even if it is when I should fear death I know He is taking care of me. He gives me comfort in His protection. He makes a feast for me where those who have hated me will see, even in the midst of those who wish me harm He provides great things, He anoints me and blesses me beyond measure. Surely God’s goodness and His mercy will always be with me, so I will always choose to stay within His love, His words and direction.

These words are finished with dwelling in the house of the lord forever, this house is His tabernacle a place where He lives which is inside of us. Keep these words in mind when you need encouragement, for they are sure as His promises.

  2. Verse 6 MSG “Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life. I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.” There is something about being back home, even when you go on vacation and its been awesome. There is a feeling about finally being back home. It’s a sense of peace, a sense of security, a comfort and resting place. There are some who have never had that, some that did; but, have walked away. Help us Lord to chase after those and help them find their way back home, back to your house and back into your marvelous light. Never ending praise and worship unto our God.

Psalm 84:4 AMP says “Blessed and greatly favored are those who dwell in Your house and Your presence; They will be singing Your praises all the day long. Selah.”

  3. Psalm 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want .

Ezekiel 34:11,12 For thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I, even I, will both search my sheep, and seek them out. As a shepherd seeketh out his flock in the day that he is among his sheep that are scattered; so will I seek out my sheep, and will deliver them out of all places where they have been scattered in the cloudy and dark day.

    God will feed His flock.

Thank Go for my shepherd, he leadeth me, He restoreth me, He is with me in the valley, His rod and staff comfort me, He preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I love and trust my shepherd, he is my protector and provider.
    God is good!!!!

  4. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

This psalm was penned at a time in the psalmist life that we could state was an uncertainty of times. The enemies that tried to overtake David were many but He found trust and faithfulness in the Lord. So many times that David made choices that were not good choices but no matter the end result, David always knew how to find the presence of God.

This verse of scripture tells us that even though David felt like there was no end that was good, and he walked what he considered the valley of the shadow of death he was still with the covering of God. Many times that when we walk through trials and tribulations, it will seem like the end is near and we will not make it out. It is because the enemy will use the powerful tool of fear to overcome us. We have to make sure that our trust is in God. Fear is nothing more than False Evidences Appearing Real. It is a trick of the Devil and he knows that if we have fear, he may be able to get the upper hand to over take us. But God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but power, love, and sound mind. We must trust him through everything even when we can’t seem to feel him.

He is a way maker, miracle worker, promise keeper, and a light in the darkness. My god that is who He is.

  5. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

Something I talked about a lot to my clients is the importance and key to rest and self-care. Sometimes we expect a lot out of ourselves and don’t understand the importance of resting or what it does for us. The Lord granted us Sabbath day for that purpose, to rest and recover, to be strengthened. Laying beside still Waters and restoring our soul is what allows us to keep going. It keeps us from being weary and faint kind of in the key to this whole verse it is to continue leading us down the paths of righteousness. We must remember the importance of rest and it’s purpose

  6. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

My friends do not fear today put Jesus before you and let him comfort you like he’s best at. When you start putting your faith in Jesus it’ll show. When you feel weary lean on Jesus, lift your hands and pray in the spirit. I have part of verse 4 tattooed on my hand. Before I got in Church fully and started living for Jesus 100 percent i was dealing with a lot of bad things. There would be nights where i was dealing with so much evil it was like no way i ran it was there and thats part of the reason i gave in to addiction. i knew the things i would see were evil and there were countless nights i would go to sleep so messed up trying to just make myself go to sleep. But when i finally started seeking God just for a second i felt surety. I found Psalms 23:4 and now its stuck with me for life. i can tell you this you don’t have to tattoo any verse on your skin just put it in your heart and it’ll be there forever. Today i look down at my hand and see the verse tattooed on my hand and its only a reminder from where i came from. A time of evil and addiction..Today I’m thankful for deliverance.

  7. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This verse says so much. The shepherd makes sure the sheep are fed, protected and watched over. They know his voice and won’t follow another one. God gave us a great benefit by giving us a shepherd!

  8. Psalms 23
    The Lord is my Shepherd
    I shall not want……….

Provision and Protection the role of the Shepherd
Thank you . The Lord is my Shepherd .

  9. Psalm 23

1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

  10. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I WILL dwell in the house of the Lord…
It’s a choice that has been decided. My mind is made up, it’s not up for debate every so often. Decision made, next question.

  11. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Hallelujah!!!! My GOD brings me salvation, peace, strength, rest, guides, provides, protects, heals, delivers, fights, etc. I lack nothing being with the lover of my soul. Nothing is impossible for Him. I Trust in the ONE that has brought life into me.

    ❤️❤️ ALWAYS FAITHFUL AND TRUE❤️❤️
“Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭28:6-7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  12. 6 “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”

I need verse six for the rest of my life for sure goodness and mercy Lord.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  13. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

That one verse says it all. A shepherd provides all the needs of his sheep. All we have to do is follow our Shepherd who is Jesus Christ. He is my EVERYTHING!!

  14. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

It should be the desire of every believer to dwell forever in the house of the Lord. His goodness and mercy are great but it takes our faithfulness to daily commit ourselves to His Will and His Ways.

  15. Psalms 23:1, “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

    In St. John 10:11, 14, & 27 JESUS says…
    11) I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
    14) I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
    27) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.

Psalms 100:3 says, “… we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.”

I am so Thankful today that I Know that “The LORD JESUS Is My Shepherd.”
HE Leads me, Guides me; Provides for me, Watches over me, Protects me, Shelters me, Delivers me, Saves me; Heals me; and sooooo much more. What more could I want? Nothing!! HE’s ALL I NEED!!

  16. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

A shepherd’s staff and rod are use to pull, push, or even rescue the sheep. The fact that David finds comfort in God’s way of guiding him even when it may hurt with the pushing and picking of the staff says a lot. We too must think that God does everything for our good, so even if it is painful all the picking, pushing and pulling of the staff or rod be confident that God knows best!!! When Jesus pushes us to do something we don’t usually do like talking to a stranger about Jesus is because He has already decided that the stranger needs Him. Or when Jesus stops us from getting that job but He knows that it will pull you away from His will. He knows best. We must surrender to the staff and the rod and allow Him to do His will in our lives. May we all find comfort in knowing that our God will use His rod to guide us in the right direction. In Jesus Name Amen

  17. Steely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
    Thankful.
I was dead I. Sin, with no hope, without god in this world…
    But because of his mercy…
    hallelujah!!!!

  18. 3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
The shepherd was a guide. The sheep didn’t need to know where the green pastures or still waters were; all he needed to know was where the shepherd was. The shepherd would guide the sheep to what he needed. So thankful for my shepherd.

  19. Ps. 23 :1-2 [ amp] The Lord is my Shepard [ to feed, guide, and shield me], I shall not lack.
Jesus is my Shepard that saves us, Heal us, and he is my deliver, and watches over us.
I am so thankful of having a Shepard that love us and I love him too. He is so good.
Philippians 4: 19 [ amp] And my God will liberally suppy( fill to the full) your everyday need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
2] He makes me lie down in fresh , tender], green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters.
What a refreshing water ( Holy Ghost) that Jesus gives us to restore our lives.
Rev 7:17 [ amp] For the Lamb, Who is in the midst of the throne will be their Shepard, and He will guide them to the springs of the waters of life, and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
O what a glorious God that we serve.

  20. The lord is my shepherd. As I’m typing this I’m hearing the song of this psalm. When I walk through the valley
Of the shadow of death I fear not because JESUS is with me . Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all of the days of my life and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD forever!

  21. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

He’s not ever gonna be scared anymore because Jesus is with him——Bella

3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

All we do, we should do in Jesus’s name, but when we don’t, he is sooo merciful that he is waiting to restore us, that He might be glorified.

  22. There is so much hope in this psalm. It has brought peace and comfort to probably millions of people since it was written. Over and over have I leaned in this. It reminds me that my God has made me the head and not the tail. He raises me up when my enemies try to take me down. He quiets my soul and brings me rest. He never leaves me.

  23. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

GOD is always by my side even through the darkest moments of my life and through the brightest

  24. A passage of scripture that is referred to in life a lot because it fits many situations that we face.

We need nothing outside of His provision. His pastures are green that we may eat, His waters bring rest. He refreshes us when we are tired, heals when we are sick or diseased, keeps us from wandering off with His staff of guidance, leads us though the path may be steep, walks with us in the valley, prepares a table for us to be filled, in the face of our adversary, ensuring them that He is with us, and allows His goodness and mercy to go follow us each day.

Who could ask for anything else. My God never fails!!

  25. One of my favorite psalms. “The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want” With Jesus being our Shepherd we are of need of nothing! “Yea , thou I walk through the valley of the shadow of death; I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” When it is time for us to leave this earth, with Jesus Christ we shall have no fear as we will be with Him. Our Saviour Lord Jesus is merciful and loving. Thank you Lord for all you do.

  26. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    ANOINTED AND BLESSED

5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

When we make the LORD our shepherd, we learn that the WORD of GOD is filled with promised blessings. Here the psalmist speaks of Blessing us in front of our enemies.

The LORD JESUS our shepherd and savior will prepare a table of provision for strategy and sustanance as our shepherd he will anoint our head with oil for protection and authority, then our cup of blessing will run over as we bless others with words, gifts and support.

The revelation of this promised blessing is the motivation to speak verse 6.

6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Why would anyone want to leave or forsake the place of this promised blessing?

Dont quit, don’t give up. Keep pressing through your pain, peril and persecution. There is a table prepared, we must go to it. The oil is ready to pour on our head for protection and direction, and the blessings are bottled up to overflow your spirit.

  27. 3He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

Through prayer your strength is renewed. When times of trouble, sickness, depression, financial hardship, through payer you’ll be renewed spiritually.

  28. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

One thing I’m sure is that in times of trouble, Thy Word will always tells us that your promises are real, and thy Spirit will gide us towards your ways. That’s why we must always trust JESUS IN EVERYTHING

  29. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus
1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

No matter what situation we are going through, no matter how stressful it might be, if we will just turn to the Shepherd he will give us peace. Even when this world is full of chaos, God will give us peace. It is hard to walk through this world hearing all the outright lies and seeing all the deceit when you know the difference between right and wrong, but you have to trust the Lord in these wicked days.

  30. Psalms 23
“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:6‬ ‭KJV‬‬

One of the most popular songs and it’s one of my favorites. For he is my shepherd and with him I want nothing for he’s my everything. But this verse I’m hanging onto currently surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

  31. I learned That He was saying how good God is And he was saying you will never see you after work got done to him he’ll always be strong.

  32. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.
    Psalms 23:3 NLT

You may think that there is no hope or opportunities for you. You may feel that you’ve gone to far in sin and that He wont accept you anymore. You may even think that He cant bring you back but He is a restorer and He can bring you back to your original form. When you let Him guide you. He will cleanse you and restore you for His honor and glory. So don’t give up and keep seeking Him.

  33. 4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Even in our lowest and darkest points the Lord never leaves our side he is with us bringing us up giving us strength fighting our battles. O Lord I praise you day and night for always giving us strength and leading us towards you everyday. My mind is made up and will forever be with you for you are my shepherd.

  34. If the Lord truly is my shepherd, I will not want the things of this world. I will seek to eat out of his hand and wait on him. You can tell wether the Lord is truly someone’s Shepard easily. You watch how they wait. If they cannot wait on God, they haven’t made him their shepherd.

  35. 1The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

God has all and is all we need. He is a way maker and provider. A very present help in the time of trouble.

No need to worry about the trials of life. God gives us the strength we need to move forward. Without him we are nothing, but through him we can do all things.

  36. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

AMEN!!! GOD HAS BEEN SO FAITHFUL!!!

  37. “He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.”
    Psalms 23:3 NKJV

We serve a good God and a just God and He is here to help you today. If you let the Holy Ghost move in your life in the next few moments God will take every anxiety away God will take your doubts and your fears away . Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

  39. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

The Lord has given us a covering to all who believe in Him and follow his commandments. We are protected and blessed. God will restore us and lead us to righteousness. Although we might encounter trouble, God has prepared us a table in front of our enemies and anointed us. So let us remain in God’s covering and dwell in his presence daily, for God is good all the time.

  40. Aunque pase por el valle de las sombras no tendre miedo porque tu estas siempre conmigo, que bueno saber que el nos ama tanto que no hay preoccupation alguna, gracias senor JESUS.

  42. 1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing NIV

Following God gives us everything that we need, He gives peace and joy, He gives us mercy, love and guidance with these things we won’t fail.

  43. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

I believe that as a Christian, a child of God, we all will have to experience everything explained in this chapter to truly understand that the Lord is our shepherd. Then and only then can we find that he satisfies all you need. And you can truly day “I shall not want.”
Makes you to lie down, leads you, restores you, comforts you, prepares a table for you, anoints you, is with you.

  44. “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The Lord is our shepherd. Like a shepherd He takes care of us, provides for us, leads and guides us. He gives us boundaries so we don’t fall into temptation or go astray. He wants to see us grow and multiply. He is invested in us!

I thank God He is my shepherd because He provides like no one else can. I pray we heed His instruction and allow Him to lead us.

  45. Sometimes sitting at the table set before in the presence of your enemies is not the easiest thing to do. Sometimes it makes you check yourself to see if you have forgiven. Sometimes it answers that question quickly for you. Let’s all strive to go to that table to eat, sit, gather, heal, and just be. Together

  46. 1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

This chapter explains the life of every believer who is willing to be as a sheep and walk with our Shepard King Jesus. This is no need to fear because He is with us. There is no need to be anxious because He is with us.

This is one of the first chapters I learned as a kid. From an early age we must understand that God is our good good Shepard!

  47. This was one of Bro. Ewing’s favorite passage of scriptures. Growing up was always a privilege to hear as he would read this literally every year at our Watch Night Services. It would always be worked into that particular service every single year. Some years Bro. Ewing would read it as we as a congregation would countdown aloud into the new year and other years we would dance our way into the next year and once settled down he would read this passage so that it was the first passage of scripture we would hear and read entering the beginning of a new year. My favorite scripture out of this memorized passage was always verse five. “5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.” This spike volumes to me in Junior High and High School and never stopped speaking to me every year, throughout the year. “. . . in the presence of mine enemies:”. In so very many situations and hard times I have come up against I could reference back to this scripture and offer it up it prayer and a peace and a comfort would come over me. So, I hope you remember whenever you are going through a storm or trial that even, “. . . in the presence of mine enemies:” he will always provide for us and always take care of us.
