Psalm Chapter 39 – Chronological

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.

10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

11 When thou with rebukes dost correct man for iniquity, thou makest his beauty to consume away like a moth: surely every man is vanity. Selah.

12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

  1. 2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my HOPE is in thee.

    Jeremiah 20:9
Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.

We cannot wait and remain silent if the Fire is burning within us. This world is full of questions and seeking HOPE and we know the answer is, it can only be found in JESUS.

  2. Psalms 39:7
And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.
Thank you Jesus for a great message at church yesterday through our wonderful Pastor. Kaleidoscope of hope. The church is a beacon of hope. The bible is a source of hope and inspiration. The name of Jesus is hope in every situation. My hope is in the kingdom of God.

  3. Verses 7-8 CEV “What am I waiting for? I depend on you, Lord! Save me from my sins. Don’t let fools sneer at me.” My hope is in you Lord.

  4. Psalm 39:12,13 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were. O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, , and be no more.

  5. 7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

Jesus our hope! When we seek undeserving, He shows us mercy and gives us new found hope in Him. Thank You Jesus!

  6. Ps. 39: 1 [ amp] I will take heed and guard my ways, that I may sin with my tongue; I will muzzle my mouth as with a bridle while and wicked are before me.
Sometimes as humans we get mad and angry at something. David got angry.
A sin a sin, our reaction is to be and quick to repent for our sins. The Holy Ghost will covect us!
Lord search my mind , my heart, my attitude, my thinking.
    Speak postive
    Act postive
    Think postive
    Live for Jesus.
Ps 141:3 [ amp] Set a guard, O Lord; before my mouth; keep watch at the door of my lips.
Use me Lord and search me thoroughly O Lord.

  7. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

The hardest thing is to keep quiet when you are angry. Lord knows how many times I have bitten my own tongue so I won’t regret words later on.

A soft answer turneth away wrath:
but grievous words stir up anger.
    Proverbs 15:1

He that is slow to wrath is of great understanding:
but he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
    Proverbs 14:29

A fool uttereth all his mind:
but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
    Proverbs 29:11

It is 100 times better to be humble and stay quiet than to spew word out of your mouth in anger that you can’t pick them out again later. My father used to say that to speak during anger was like going up to the highest tower and breaking a feather pillow after you do that is hard to go and pick every single feather back up. Is the same way with gossip, once started it is virtually impossible to stop it. The damaged is already done. So it is wise to learn to control your tongue plus in the silence you can hear JESUS voice much better.

  8. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.
2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred

The tongue is the instruments that mankind must watch consistently. The Bible tells us in the book of James that it is untameable. It doesn’t matter how much control we think we have over what we say all it takes is a slip of the emotion 4 things to come out of our language. It is the tool that must remain and holstered and guarded at all times. Listen learn and teach ourselves to be mindful of what we say. I’m reminded of the old childhood proverb of sticks and stones, but truth be told it is words that would hurt us and much greater effect than anything else. We have to be careful and intentional with what we say

  10. 13 O spare me, that I may recover strength, before I go hence, and be no more.

Lord give me strength to endure to the end of my lifetime so I can rejoice in your presence. 7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my HOPE is in thee.

  11. 4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Everytime we look in the mirror or struggle to do what was once easy, is a reminder to us that our days are coming to an end. We should keep in mind that even though we are saved, we will be held accontable for our deeds.

  12. Psalm 39

4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

  13. Thank you Jesus for today , thy kingdom come thy will be done .

“ Lord , remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. Hear my prayer, O Lord ! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me. Leave me alone so I can smile again before I am gone and exist no more.
    Psalms 39:4‭, ‬12‭-‬13

  14. Psalms 39:5-7
    5) Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.
    6) Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them.
    7) And now, LORD, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

    “What Are We Waiting For?”
Since life is short, man is altogether vanity (selfish and proud), and riches (the things we posses) don’t really matter in the end, “What are we waiting for? What are we hoping in?
Our HOPE (trust, confidence, expectation) should be in God. For our HOPE, our Trust, Confidence, and Expectation in God and living for Him is all that’s really going to matter in the end.

Romans 15:13 says, “Now the God of HOPE fill you with all Joy and Peace in believing, that ye may abound in HOPE, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Abound in HOPE today, through the POWER of the HOLY GHOST!!

  15. I learned that always trust God even if you don’t agree with him Only follow his ways he’s the one in true God.

  16. In this chapter David made a mistake and started to blame it on God. He said that God was punishing him. We must own up to our own mistakes and not but them on other people, and definitely not on God! Be sure that today we are kind and nice to everyone! BE KIND POFW!!!!

1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

It’s not good to give the wicked a piece of your mind. What good is it going to do? They are just going to take everything you say and twist it against you. On the internet these folks are called trolls. Think about it, you try to correct a troll on facebook and all these trolls immediately pounce on you and next thing you know it’s over they turn you into someone youre really not.

Lesson learned: tie your mouth and fingers (so you don’t post troll material) with a bridle.

  18. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

As the psalmist penned these scriptures for this psalm, he starts off by stating the most difficult thing that a human can do, and that is trying to bridle his mouth while the wicked is before him. The humanity of this world is quick to speak before thinking and once things are spoken, there is no going back on what was spoke. The Bible states that out of the heart the mouth speaks. If our carnality arises and we begin to bite into the anointed, then we are just like the wicked. We have to allow God to control our mouth and our hearts. To be willing to live Jesus and be a great example, we have to be willing to think before we speak. As long as we speak truth of the word of God, then God will help us give Jesus in all that we do. Because we know the most unruly part of our flesh is the tongue. Scripture also lets us know that life and death are in the tongue. So I ask what will we be speaking forth today? Will we speak life or will we speak death?

  19. 7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

As Pastor preached, we must continue to hope in our salvation, our deliverance and our redemption. And we must be able to give an answer to others of this hope we have so they too can come to the knowledge of his salvation, and have this hope.

  20. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    KALEIDOSCOPE OF HOPE

7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

    And NOW.

Meditating on those 2 words leads us to believe that there was a turning point, a time of focus or a commitment to change. Somewhere, somehow in the Kaleidoscope of life there is for each of us an AND NOW opportunity.

The psalmist was possibly waiting for the right time or opportunity, but finally he came to the AND NOW, what I am waiting for point. I feel this same spirit of opposition in our day. We are pressed to move from the despair of life and say NOW I HOPE. I am looking, through and past all of the abstracts of life that make up the Kaleidoscope of my life and I will find my HOPE in Christ JESUS, HIS Kingdom, HIS Church and HIS People.

2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

In the world that we live today with technology it is easy to say words that can harm people. Sometimes it is best to keep our words to ourselves so that we don’t harm other people. Let the Holy Spirit guide you before you speak out.

  22. 39:6 surely every man walketh in a vain shew
Surely they are disquieted in vain
He heapeth off riches and knowers not who shall gather them.

  23. ““And now, Lord, for what do I expectantly wait? My hope [my confident expectation] is in You.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭39:7‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Even in our own strength we are merely man/woman. Nothing w/o the Lord. As my eyes see everything around me, my hope and trust can only be in The Lord

“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:11‬ ‭KJV

  24. Pray without ceasing is the only way to bridle and control your tongue. Once you say something you can never take it back. Stay in the word also is a great help to control what you say.

  25. “And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭39:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

“We set our hope on You,
we set our hope on Your love

We set our hope on the One who is the everlasting God

    You are the everlasting God

You are the everlasting” // Everlasting God // William Murphy

  26. 7 “And now, Lord, for what do I expectantly wait?
My hope [my confident expectation] is in You.

    1 Corinthians 15:19
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

Without the Spirit of God breathing into us everyday, we are lost, like a ship on the sea being tossed to and fro. However, we have been blessed with the great experience of being filled with HIS Spirit, therefore we can have the confidence of knowing that not only is HE with us, but HE is in us. His Spirit will provide direction, wisdom, knowledge, peace, joy, strength – whatever we have need of, we can draw freely from the His well on a daily basis.

When things are not going as we plan, or the outcome is not what we thought, all we have to do it look up to Jesus. He knows our coming in and going out, the way that we take every day and He will lead us on the path that He desires, if we will just wait for His perfect timing.

  27. Psalm 39
We never know what time the Lord will call us. While we are on earth let the word of the Lord come through with Praise and worship. May our lives reflect Jesus and our love be expanded to
include the widow and orphan, the beggar and the homeless, and reach out to the sinner and to the saint. Life is to short to be idlein a sick and dying world.

  28. 7 And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.

Many of us ask this, “where do I put my hope?” Don’t put your hope in man, in doctors, astrology, palm readers, psychiatrists, medicines, or friends. They will lead for only a moment in time, and will fail you when need them the most. God will never fail you, and all you have to do is pray, and you’ll have peace, calm, and joy come over.

  29. Our tongue has gotten many people in trouble. Words come out of our mouth, and it is the same mouth that praises our Lord! We need to keep our mouth as pure as possible. This present world is troubling. We need to be righteous and work for our Lord.

“I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Therefore be wise as serpents and harmless as doves.” Matthew 10:16

  30. “People are only shadows as they go here and there. They rush around, but it doesn’t mean anything. They pile up wealth, but they don’t know who will get it. “Lord, what can I look forward to now? You are the only hope I have.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭39:6-7‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

The human life is so fragile. When we compare it to eternity, it’s just a vapor of smoke. We are here one day and then gone like the morning dew. This encourages me to make the best of this one life God has given to me. I want to make sure I devote it all to Him. I want to represent God well and give Him my all just like He gave His all for me. He gave His life for me on the cross and the least I can do is devote all my life to Him.

  31. ‘And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.’
    Psalms 39:7 NLT

Reminds me of the Kaleidoscope of Hope message! What a great timely word for us in this time! To know that even when we are distracted by what we see around, we still know that JESUS is everywhere!

Watch It • Share It • Believe It

  32. ““ Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” We are merely moving shadows, and all our busy rushing ends in nothing. We heap up wealth, not knowing who will spend it.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭39:4-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬
David was a champion, an accomplished Special Forces warrior, a leader, a skilled poet, a musical genius, a survivor, and a king. If anyone might have thought more highly of himself, David had the right to. Yet he understood that he, like every man is – at his best state – merely a vapor, a puff of steam or smoke.

  33. I will know my words before they are spoken even as others are before me and speak so wickedly. I have been silent for a long time, even of good things and my sadness it only grew inside me. My heart, felt I could no longer contain and more and more as I gained inspiration from all things you set before me my voice could no longer be quiet and so I spoke. Lord, if anything let me see how many days I have left, what they will be, so I can know that I am still less than this frame of a man you have created. Even this life that seems to may last forever it is only but a single breath to you because even in my best form I am only vanity. A shell upon this soul that is still just unsatisfied. No matter what things I possess who do they belong to when I am gone? But you, you have made me. So tell me what do I wait for? It is only for you? You who can save me from all things, from the foolish of others, from the things of this world. Take any strike from you away, I feel consumed at times by you. But still I will stay with you and trust to let you to be my words. Hear me God, listen to my cries, don’t ignore my tears. I am just a traveler with you just as my father was. Recover my strength, so you will show.

  34. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

We can get in so much trouble from the unruly member of our bodies, the tongue. With it so many things are said. And there is so much power in our words. To build up or destroy. The Word tell us in proverbs:

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding. Proverbs 17:28.

So, it takes determined action to purposely talk that which is life, and builds up and does not destroy.

Purpose in your mind to feed yourself the Word of God, that your thoughts may be renewed. That your words maybe be few. We should speak more to bless God and speak the great things he does. Yet again that takes purpose. Take heed to all that you say for life and death are in the power of the tongue.

  35. 6 Surely every man walketh in a vain shew: surely they are disquieted in vain: he heapeth up riches, and knoweth not who shall gather them. 7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? My hope is in thee.

God gave us this life to enjoy it to live a life he wanted us to have, to spread his beautiful word and save the lost. During life things and people will come and go, and we will face some dark times at a point. But the only person to look up to and have trust and hope in is the Lord. The Lord will always be here for us no matter what, he’s here to protect us to save us and give us strength. Always have your faith in the Lord because no matter what he is the only one that won’t fail you.

  36. I said to myself, “I will watch what I do and not sin in what I say. I will hold my tongue when the ungodly are around me.”
    Psalms 39:1 NLT

You are always watched whether you know it or not. Our testimony of who we are can be ruined just by some wrong words or a slip of the tongue. We are His children and people see Him in us. Our Words and actions go along way to the point of affecting a life. We choose whether the affect is good or negative. We must watch our words and actions because somebody’s life depends on them.

  37. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

It is sometimes more important to be silent than to roar as a lion. Ones integrity could be at stake. Do not be fooled by the silence; that it is acceptance or even a reluctance to fight evil. For it could be that the wise take their battles to the King instead of the battle ground of the wicked.

The roar will eventually come it’s just waiting on the Kings command and if they King says stay quiet that is the pleasure of the King. Somethings are better left unsaid to the enemy than spoken and miss-understood by many.

  38. “I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you. But please stop striking me! I am exhausted by the blows from your hand. When you discipline us for our sins, you consume like a moth what is precious to us. Each of us is but a breath. Interlude”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭39:9-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/psa.39.9-11.nlt

We are guilty of our sin the Lord will punish our soul can bare the wrath of God for he his mighty. We must repent and try our best to stay holy because the Lord has die for you and me for his love is greater.

  39. 4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.

Life is so short, we have no time for nonsense. Let us forgive and be forgiven, and love each other the way God intended for us to. Once we get into eternity we will understand how short this life really is and we will probably laugh at the things that used to get us upset.

  40. “I SAID, I will take heed and guard my ways, that I may sin not with my tongue; I will muzzle my mouth as with a bridle while the wicked are before me.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭39:1‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

“A time to rend and a time to sew, a time to keep silence and a time to speak, [Amos 5:13.]”
    ‭‭Ecclesiastes‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭AMPC‬‬

There is a time for everything. We must be sensitive to the spirit and use our knowledge, wisdom, understanding, and sometimes practicality to know what time we are in. I thank God for His guidance and pray we recognize the time we are in!

  41. “Rescue me from my rebellion. Do not let fools mock me. I am silent before you; I won’t say a word, for my punishment is from you.”
    Psalms 39:8-9 NLT

The Lord rescued us from our sins, and when the enemy tries to mock me. I will stay still for You Lord will punish the enemy. Lord let us be obedient to what you’re saying to us. I pray God that You give us wisdom and understanding of obedience to your word, and keep us from Your punishment.

  42. 4 Lord, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is: that I may know how frail I am.
5 Behold, thou hast made my days as an handbreadth; and mine age is as nothing before thee: verily every man at his best state is altogether vanity. Selah.

Seize every day that is given to us. We are created to live and one day die. So everyday that we have let us give our very best to God. For our time is delicate and before Him our time is like a handbreadth. Although we might fail, don’t let that failure stop you from giving your ALL to God. The enemy wants you to believe that you’re a failure who is unworthy, that is a lie!! While we have breath we have HOPE! Repent and give it ALL God. There still time!!

  43. Hear my prayer, O Lord ! Listen to my cries for help! Don’t ignore my tears. For I am your guest— a traveler passing through, as my ancestors were before me. Leave me alone so I can smile again before I am gone and exist no more.
    Psalms 39:12‭-‬13 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/psa.39.12-13.NLT

We don’t understand why God does things sometimes. It can seem like pure torture, but He has a plan and truly IS working all things for good. My Savior, my HOPE lies in You.

  44. 7 And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.

    1 Corinthians 15:19
If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable.

    Jeremiah 17:7
Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.

    Lamentations 3:24
The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him.

My hope rests firmly on Jesus Christ! Thank you Lord for blessed hope that you have bestowed upon Your people … without hope where would we be?

  45. 8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

Each and every day, we must ask God to deliver us from our transgressions. He is the only one who can deliver us.

  46. 1 I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me.

2 I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.

3 My heart was hot within me, while I was musing the fire burned: then spake I with my tongue,

    Philippians 4:19
But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

We should never complain about what we have even if others have more, we obviously don’t need it at the time if we don’t have it because his word says all our need will be supplied. God help us to never complain or murmur about what we don’t have in this life, because you are always faithful.

  47. 12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

  48. “I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. I was dumb with silence, I held my peace, even from good; and my sorrow was stirred.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭39:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes it is just better to shut your mouth. We don’t always understand things. With our lack of understanding it is easy to misjudge or jump to conclusions. It is better for us to be quiet than to says something that we shouldn’t say.

  49. 12 Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; hold not thy peace at my tears: for I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.

We must remember, this is not our home. We are only here for a short time.

  50. Psa 39:7  And now, Lord, what wait I for? my hope is in thee.
Psa 39:8  Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.

The antidote for pride is prayer.
The Bible tells us to humble ourselves and pray. We’re setting aside every other thing in this world to speak with the Lord of Lords and the King of Kings. We’re building relationship with Jesus at that point. There’s no more “oh it’s all me attitude“ at that point it’s a me and Jesus attitude or it was all Jesus. Give God the glory he deserves..

  51. 8 Deliver me from all my transgressions: make me not the reproach of the foolish.
9 I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.
10 Remove thy stroke away from me: I am consumed by the blow of thine hand.

Have you ever heard, “speak your mind or forever keep you peace”?? Same meaning, “. . .  I was dumb, I opened not my mouth; because thou didst it.” Speak your peace, have a say!! Don’t be as this verse and be “dumb”. Use our voice.
