2 Samuel Chapter 13 – Chronological

And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.

And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

So Amnon lay down, and made himself sick: and when the king was come to see him, Amnon said unto the king, I pray thee, let Tamar my sister come, and make me a couple of cakes in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

Then David sent home to Tamar, saying, Go now to thy brother Amnon’s house, and dress him meat.

So Tamar went to her brother Amnon’s house; and he was laid down. And she took flour, and kneaded it, and made cakes in his sight, and did bake the cakes.

And she took a pan, and poured them out before him; but he refused to eat. And Amnon said, Have out all men from me. And they went out every man from him.

10 And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.

11 And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

12 And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.

13 And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.

14 Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.

15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

16 And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

17 Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

18 And she had a garment of divers colours upon her: for with such robes were the king’s daughters that were virgins apparelled. Then his servant brought her out, and bolted the door after her.

19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

20 And Absalom her brother said unto her, Hath Amnon thy brother been with thee? but hold now thy peace, my sister: he is thy brother; regard not this thing. So Tamar remained desolate in her brother Absalom’s house.

21 But when king David heard of all these things, he was very wroth.

22 And Absalom spake unto his brother Amnon neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.

23 And it came to pass after two full years, that Absalom had sheepshearers in Baalhazor, which is beside Ephraim: and Absalom invited all the king’s sons.

24 And Absalom came to the king, and said, Behold now, thy servant hath sheepshearers; let the king, I beseech thee, and his servants go with thy servant.

25 And the king said to Absalom, Nay, my son, let us not all now go, lest we be chargeable unto thee. And he pressed him: howbeit he would not go, but blessed him.

26 Then said Absalom, If not, I pray thee, let my brother Amnon go with us. And the king said unto him, Why should he go with thee?

27 But Absalom pressed him, that he let Amnon and all the king’s sons go with him.

28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

29 And the servants of Absalom did unto Amnon as Absalom had commanded. Then all the king’s sons arose, and every man gat him up upon his mule, and fled.

30 And it came to pass, while they were in the way, that tidings came to David, saying, Absalom hath slain all the king’s sons, and there is not one of them left.

31 Then the king arose, and tare his garments, and lay on the earth; and all his servants stood by with their clothes rent.

32 And Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, Let not my lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

33 Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

34 But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

35 And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king’s sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

36 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

37 But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.

38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.

39 And the soul of king David longed to go forth unto Absalom: for he was comforted concerning Amnon, seeing he was dead.

  1. It is clear that Amnon, was very vexed with his own sister and raped her. But, your sin will find you and there are very serious repercussions for it.

It’s called incest and it’s a horrible sin, that hurts the family in many ways . David wept for his son and things for his daughter became a nightmarish life.

    “Keep the Faith”…….

  2. “When David heard what had happened to Tamar, he was very angry. But Amnon was his oldest son and also his favorite, and David would not do anything to make Amnon unhappy.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:21‬ ‭CEV‬‬

Talk about ‘spare the rod, spoil the child!’

Having favorites In the family? Some parents may say ‘not amongst my children’ and I am the first to say! You can ask any of my children, they will say whom it is according to their own perspective. I can’t even imagine loving one more above the other. But sadly to say it does. Parents beware it causes sibling rivalry. As we see in this chapter. king David failed to discipline his son for his actions(sin, shame) he brought to his family. Just another slap on his hand or better yet a five minute timeout.

Where is the backbone of king David that killed tens of thousands men. But failed to discipline his child(ren)?
I’m thankful for the men and women who do discipline their children. When we see the chaos around our world today….well…..

Jesus we cannot afford to live in our nation without you!!!

“Do not withhold discipline from the child; If you swat him with a reed-like rod [applied with godly wisdom], he will not die. You shall swat him with the reed-like rod And rescue his life from Sheol (the nether world, the place of the dead).”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭23:13-14‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  3. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

This reminds me of the message the Brother Woodward preached at BOTT a few years ago titled “Who’s at your table?” Who is in your inner court? Who has access to influence you? Who has the power to move you with their words? We have to be so careful of those that are this close to us. We have to make sure that these that sit at our table are full of the Holy Ghost and hear the voice of God. This man was about to give Ammon the worst advice of his life that would later get him killed but he was at his table. This is why we need the church so desperately in these times we live in. In the church you have the ability to have a secure circle of influence with those who truly care about you. We have the access to godly council that will keep us from making those costly mistakes. Brother Tallent preached “ The High Cost of One Bad Decision” so true in this story and many of ours. Let us be sure that those that are able to persuade us are persuading us with the will of God in our lives.

Praying for all of my POFW family today. May God have favor on us today and lead us to someone that needs Jesus. Amen

  4. 5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

Possibly one of the greatest messages I’ve ever heard, especially regarding this story, was a message by Jerry Jones titled “Amnon had a friend” he was speaking to the youth but the applications could be geared towards anybody. What Amnon wanted with Tamar was pure and was not considered an abomination, in those days you were allowed to marry your half siblings that did not come from the same father. It was not what he wanted that was evil it was the way he went about it. Amnon listened to his friend instead of seeking the council from an elder that could have given him more wise direction. But he chose to listen to the advice of someone who did not have a pure mind. We need to watch who influences us and who gives us advice, especially in these days for facts are obscured more now than ever period it is important that we remain United and that we seek honest counsel from our pastor, elders of the church, ministers, and leaders from the church

  5. 28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

There is always a price to pay for our sins. Sometimes the consequences of our sin are addressed in this life and others in our afterlife.

  6. Some friend, Jonadab, was to Amnon. Instead of being horrified at his obsession, he encouraged it and even provided a means to complete his ultimate sin. We must be very careful who we think are befriending us and why. Jonadab was just as evil as Amnon, when he encouraged such sin. Be careful what you are encouraging people to do and enabling them to do! 1 Thessalonians 5:19-22 MSG says “Don’t suppress the Spirit, and don’t stifle those who have a word from the Master. On the other hand, don’t be gullible. Check out everything, and keep only what’s good. Throw out anything tainted with evil.” Same verses AMP “Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit. Do not scorn or reject gifts of prophecy or prophecies [spoken revelations—words of instruction or exhortation or warning]. But test [a]all things carefully [so you can recognize what is good]. Hold firmly to that which is good. Abstain from every form of evil [withdraw and keep away from it].”

  7. 33 Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

Sin will take you further than you intended to go. Like the saying goes “be careful for your sins will find you out “ …. one lie turns into one and then to another and before you know it you have told so many lies that you don’t even know what is true; eventually the lies destroy not only yourself but the ones you love.

    Romans 6:23
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  8. I honestly struggled to write this today do I had to actually read it over and over. First of all this whole situation is messy . One he fell in love with his half sister who Is still his sister. And then he stole here virginity . He raped her . And the thing that broke my heart reading this she had no idea what was coming for her she legit thought he was sick . I actually got emotional reading this. He honestly thought he could get away with it but what is done in dark will be brought into light .

  9. 4 One day Jonadab said to Amnon, “What’s the trouble? Why should the son of a king look so dejected morning after morning?” NLT

I hope no one has cause to ask this of us – we are Children of The King of Kings, we should be the happiest looking people there are.
Sure, we’ll have low moments and bad days, but when we think of the big picture and what our future holds, our heads should be lifted high with a smile on our face; this life and it’s problems are only temporary!

  10. 2 Sam 3-4-5[ amp] But Amnon had a friend whose name was Jonabad son of Shimeah . David’s brother ; and Jonadab was a very crafty man.
[4] He said to Amnon, Why are you, the king’s son, so lean and weak- looking from day to day?
Will you not tell me? And Amnon said to him , I love Tamar, my [ half] brother Ansalom’s sister.
[5] Jonadab said to him , Go to bed and pretend you are sick; and when your father David comes to see you, say to him. Let my sister Tamar come and give me food and prepare it in my sight, that I may see it and eat it from her hand.
Friends are good to have, But we need to be careful who we hang around with!
Prov.26 :10 [ amp] Your own friend and your father’s friend, forsake them not; neither go to your brother house in the day of the calamity.
Better is a neighbor who is near in [ spirit] than a brother who is far off [ in heart].
Make the right decision and stay close to him.
    In Jesus name.

  11. 12 “No, my brother!” she cried. “Don’t be foolish! Don’t do this to me! Such wicked things aren’t done in Israel.

15 Then suddenly Amnon’s love turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. “Get out of here!” he snarled at her. (NLT)

The pleasures of sin are only temporary. Beyond that, it hurts and effects more than just you, it effects those around you (usually the ones you love most).

We are to be holy and protect this temple for God to dwell in – such wicked things are not to be done!

  12. Thank you Jesus for today , praise God give him Glory . Thy kingdom come thy will be done

Understand this, my dear brothers and sisters: You must all be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to get angry. Human anger does not produce the righteousness God desires.
    James 1:19‭-‬20

  13. What a joy it is to read today’s thoughts in the blog! I agree sin is sin and it will come to the light. Invest is wrong no matter how you dress it up. Thank you Jesus for loving us and teaching us in your word the right way to live.

  14. 2 Samuel 13

1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom the son of David had a fair sister, whose name was Tamar; and Amnon the son of David loved her.
2 And Amnon was so vexed, that he fell sick for his sister Tamar; for she was a virgin; and Amnon thought it hard for him to do anything to her.

3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

4 And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.

5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

  15. This situation was a very sinful situation. Both Ammon and David both were very wrong in the way it was handled. Ammon committed the greater sin by taking Tamar and forcing himself on her which was rape and incest. Then David committed a sin by just not handling the actions of Ammon. Then Absalom committed the sin by having his brother killed for his actions toward Tamar.

I have realized that when sin is involved, one small sin then creates another sin, then leads to another sin and so on. The only way to rid the sin it to cut it off from the very beginning. If left unattended it will begin to ingest every aspect of your life. It will create animosity toward God and you will eventually sin against God. Then you will be left no where except trying to hide from your shame. It’s time to alleviate the enemy from your life and start allowing the grace and mercy of God to heal you from the inside out. Allow God the opportunity to guide you out of the mire and muck of sin. It is a matter of life or eternal death. So I ask this morning what are you running from? And where are you running to?

  16. This chapter is difficult for me, to be raped by someone who you should be able to trust, someone that should protect you not harm you. Yes, it was the advice of a friend that instigated the rape but Ammon had the seed of that sin in his heart and mind already. You see that’s how everything begins the seed in the imagination and in this case Ammon kept simmering this sin in his mind over and over just because his sister was beautiful. I feel so bad for her and the thing is that all he desire was her virginity because once the deed was done he despised her. She lost her garment of many colors for only the virgins got to wear that. Because she is now unable to wear that garment ALL know about her tragedy. Everyone knows just by looking in how she is dressed. She is embarrassed, feeling used, and abused. From the sin of rape the sin of murder is born. I don’t really blame Absalom, but he sin in planning and conceiving the sin to murder his brother Ammon. Did Ammon deserve to die because of what he did??? If you ask me YES. I battle with this every time I read about a baby being sexually assaulted. I don’t understand why don’t we have tougher laws to keep our babies safe. I pray to God to forgive me if my way of thinking is wrong but God help us keep our children safe in this sick society that keep getting worse and worse trying to view pedophiles as love. This campaign that’s our there to teach our children to accept this sexual corruption as a normal behavior. Parents be aware of what is in your children’s school curriculum, ASK, EDUCATE YOURSELF, AND FIGHT TO KEEP YOUR KIDS SAVED!!

  17. 11 Samuel 13
    What a tragic situation.
Here is the royal family with so much at hand yet sin brings such a tangled up mess.
We the children if the King must guard our thoughts and our actions. Beware that if someone does not hold to the standard God has set that it can destroy your walk with God. I recently met a friend who had preached for over 50 years the more I listened to him the more concern I began to have . His life of royalty in God’s kingdom seemed a bit tarnished or not as it used to be. Concerns gripped my heart . Then a long time friend came by and there was a great contrast that truly revealed the word unadulterated word of God. This friend still held on to the truth and the love of truth. This picture of Tamar being raped strongly brought these two friends to mind. One who truly once loved all the principles and precepts of God’s word had allowed circumstances and situations to turn his love away from holding true to them. The other had also been through some situations but the truth and God’s word was still held deep within his heart. We cannot allow anything whether a strong love as Tamar’s brother had for her which he allowed to turn to sin or a friend to deceive you into thinking that your standard of life doesn’t have to be so high. What if Amnon’s friend had not helped him scheme up a plan but had encouraged him there was a righteous way to pursue the love he had ( which in those times could have been applicable)this story would not have ended so tragically.
We the church can easily be Tamar … her intentions were nothing but good , had this man enticed her before had his words wooed her to the place of complacency. would she lower her standard to gain what she desired . Why did her half brother do what he did. Tamar wanted to remain pure and even after he had done wrong she expected marriage but now his love has turned to hate. Again we the church must guard our hearts emotions and our standard. We must refuse to compromise for anyone for any reason
Just a moment of pleasure that once was a love turned into a hatred how tragic but so real. What is the answer to the places in life we find ourself in and trying to remain faithful and uphold the standard of God’s Royalty. Don’t compromise, a little sin goes a long ways and can lead to a heart filled with hatred .
Thankfully for the children of God , God is there to restore and renew .
Oh what a reason to live for we serve a God who forgives . Tamar’s life was changed but she still was the King’s daughter. Don’t let anything keep you from staying in the presence of the King.
God help us to keep our standards high so that we do not get trapped in a web of sin . In Jesus name .

  18. 11 And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.

When you commit sin and You have the need to cover it up you will sin again. Once sun is put on an innocent person that shame and the guilt is so hard to overcome. But we must go to the rock for Jesus is the only wayThat we can become pure again through the blood of the lamb.

  19. This chapter has a multitude of sins in it. Lust, deceit, lies, rape, revenge and murder just to name a few. We see where one sin had a ripple effect which lead to another sin then another and so on. What took place in this chapter is just like what took place between David and Bathsheba. In both situations God’s Influence and presence is missing. The Lord must be a daily part of our lives.

  20. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE NEGATIVE RESULTS OF LUST

15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
16 And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.
17 Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, Put now this woman out from me, and bolt the door after her.

If this horrific plot and plan of sin was a math problem it would be comprised of all negatives. How could a prince, a man of the house of royalty ever think this would end well or any good or positive would come of it? Amnons only desire was for personal pleasure, not relationship, not friendship, not unity in the family, only personal pleasure. This attitude is called LUST.

LUST – 1939. epithumia, ep-ee-thoo-mee´-ah; a longing (especially for what is forbidden): — concupiscence, desire, lust (after).

Amnon was of the Kingdom of David and had privilege and access to everything his father was over. But, he longed for his forbidden sister. Remember as Born Again Christians we are sons and daughters of the KING JESUS and all that is HIS we have access to, but why do we desire the forbidden?

The apostle writes in his epistle:

James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

James no doubt penned these words from the testment of Amnon.

The added negative effects of LUST.
    1. It caused shame for the innocent.
    2. It created conflict in the family.
    3. It finished in death.
    4. It resulted in grief for the family.
    5. It ruined multiple lives.

As we pray and seek FIRST The Kingdom of GOD daily, let us remember THE NEGATIVE RESULTS OF LUST is chaos for all.

The Bad Influence of a Good Friend

Most time folks underestimate the power of friendships. Some folks think they can be the “stronger” friend and lead the “lost” friend to truth. In other situations, people think they are “strong enough” to have friendships with the opposite sex without a relationship forming. With that being said, friendships are dangerous when they involve someone who is not attempting to be lead by God. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Amnon chose a friend who would later cause him his life. The “friendship” that Amnon had with Tamar (as a sister who served him) would also be destroyed because he got too attached to her beauty whenever she was around him. Remember, Amnon was the kings son. He could have had any beautiful woman he wanted, but he chose his brothers sister, one closest to him who was probably a friend.

  22. 👉🏼Problem: heart problem that spread all over and 👉🏼caused the (flesh) to react.
    👉🏼Root: sin
    👉🏼Cure: repentance.🙏
    — it all started with Someone’s feelings that led to put them into action….
But this was WRONG since the begging…
Big problem, big scandal, several involved
    Bad ending.
    Sin thrills and then kills.
Sin is like cancer, if it’s not caught and taken care of soon, it will destroy and bring sorrow….
    —————
Sin is temporary and will leave the person empty
    With a hard heart ….
13:17. Then he called his servant that ministered unto him, and said, put out this woman out from me
And bolt the door after her .

  23. 15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.

The very thing that Ammon loved enough to sin with, brought hatred to his heart and later death. If we desire sin long enough, God will allow us to partake of it, but we will have the same results as Ammon. We will come to hate the very thing that we stepped over the line to have.

God will not force His ways on us, we must make our own choices. If we allow the thought of sin to grow, it will cause us to act upon that sin. Therefore, we must practice the scripture: Ephesians 4:27 Neither give place to the devil.

  24. 2 Samuel 13:3-5
    3) But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.
    4) And he said unto him, Why art thou, being thee king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.
    5) And Jonadab said unto him, lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh so see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

    “Amnon Had A Friend”
Proverbs 27:6 (AMP) says, “Faithful are the wounds of a friend (who corrects out of love and concern), but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful (because they serve his hidden agenda).
If Jonadab had been a “true friend” to Amnon, he would have corrected him out of love and concern, and he would have told Amnon what he needed to hear, not what he wanted to hear and help him device a plan.
So be careful who you consider “a friend.” Don’t mistake the “Jonadabs” you know for “a friend.” A “true friend” will correct you when your wrong.

  25. “But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man. And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We have an example of how important the voices that are around us are. My prayer is that we would have a spirit of discernment to discern the voices that are from God. And discern and remove the subtil and cunning voices.

  26. David as a King had an image to protect and as a Father had the responsibility to discipline and protect his children. David didn’t assume his father role but instead was glad that his own son took matter into his own hands to handle it for him even though that wasn’t the plan.

Punishment is evident that God doesn’t like evil no matter the gender or title you have. We all fall short of the glory of God, therefore admitting sin and turning away from it is exactly what God wants us to do. We need to repent and allow God to work in us, no sin is acceptable to God but we can choose to live life the way God intended us to live righteously.

  27. “So Amnon lay down and pretended to be sick. And when the king came to see him, Amnon asked him, “Please let my sister Tamar come and cook my favorite dish as I watch. Then I can eat it from her own hands.” So David agreed and sent Tamar to Amnon’s house to prepare some food for him. When Tamar arrived at Amnon’s house, she went to the place where he was lying down so he could watch her mix some dough. Then she baked his favorite dish for him. But when she set the serving tray before him, he refused to eat. “Everyone get out of here,” Amnon told his servants. So they all left. Then he said to Tamar, “Now bring the food into my bedroom and feed it to me here.” So Tamar took his favorite dish to him.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:6-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Amnon showed by this that everything he told David was a lie. He continued the deception, so he could be alone with Tamar. One lie led to many lies . You will not get by with lying . Your friends may not realize you are lying, but the truth always comes out, then people get hurt , all because you couldn’t tell the truth.

  28. 6Yet Jeroboam son of Nebat, a mere servant of David’s son Solomon, rebelled against his master. 7Then a whole gang of scoundrels joined him, defying Solomon’s son Rehoboam when he was young and inexperienced and could not stand up to them.

This shows there was not unity. Not only Nebat rebelled but others followed him. Its easy to be mislead by someone who has ulterior motives. Listen to the man of God, read & learn the Word, and God will guide on the straight path.

  29. 36 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of speaking, that, behold, the king’s sons came, and lifted up their voice and wept: and the king also and all his servants wept very sore.

    Tragedy in the house of the King. I could not help but think of this verse;

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.
    Galatians 6:7‭-‬8 NKJV

Now we know of David’s sin and how God was displeased. We must know that the judgment of God is far greater. I dont know if this was in direct cause of what he did, for God did spoke of a judgment unto David, which later comes to pass with Absalom his son. This may have just been the roots of it. For out of a great lust all thos was birthed. Such as David’s sin who even plotted a murder. Now we see an innocent daughter hurt and a son dead.

  30. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Who are you listening to? Who are you allowing to be an influence in your life?

The sin had already consumed Amnon’s mind, but it was the advice of his friend that caused him to act upon it.

It is important that we surround ourselves with people who discourage sin, not advise it.

Who you allow to speak into your life will change your life.

  31. Amnon lied to King David and tricked Tamar as well. He was evil to all especially our Lord.
“For certain individuals whose condemnation was written about long ago have secretly slipped in among you. They are ungodly people, who pervert the grace of God into a license for immorality and deny Jesus Christ our only Sovereign and Lord.” Jude 4 NIV

Amnon knew what he did was wrong and he ended up losing his life over this!

  32. 4 And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister. 5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may eat at her hand.

Amnon was not in the right place sin and evil were going into him slowly and slowly each day. But he was influenced by Jonadab and listened to him, and got his own sister. We are all influenced by the people we are surrounded by, God brought us here to help guide people away from sin and evil. But if we are surrounded by those things what good are we? We must Not Give In! Sin and evil have nothing on us we must fight it and we must fight for those lives that are trying to change there ways. Do not give in for greater things are to come with the Lord.

  33. “One day Jonadab said to Amnon, “What’s the trouble? Why should the son of a king look so dejected morning after morning?” So Amnon told him, “I am in love with Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister.” “Well,” Jonadab said, “I’ll tell you what to do. Go back to bed and pretend you are ill. When your father comes to see you, ask him to let Tamar come and prepare some food for you. Tell him you’ll feel better if she prepares it as you watch and feeds you with her own hands.””
    2 Samuel 13:4-5 NLT

“Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.”
    Proverbs 18:2 NLT

Don’t give into your flesh for your flesh only desires the path and the ways of world. Which goes against the word of God. Don’t give into your flesh don’t throw in the towel because the Lord said let us go to the other side and when he speaks it’s going to happen we are going to make it to the other side and greater things are going to come!

  34. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

This way we try our best to separate ourselves from the world. Not that we should ignore those around us but we must walk in the spirit to be able to discern the not so good advice. A little prayer would have went along way in the unfolding of events that took place in this passage.

  35. “And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We need to be mindful of who we allow to give us advice. Jonadab told Ambon what he wanted to hear not what he needed to hear. I thank God I have a church family who will tell me what I need to hear, despite how I may react to it. I pray in any decision we make or advice we give we go to God in prayer first for guidance.

  36. 33 Now therefore let not my lord the king take the thing to his heart, to think that all the king’s sons are dead: for Amnon only is dead.

34 But Absalom fled. And the young man that kept the watch lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came much people by the way of the hill side behind him.

35 And Jonadab said unto the king, Behold, the king’s sons come: as thy servant said, so it is.

Things are not the same as they seem sometimes, why is it our carnal side, has to think the worst in most situations, instead we should be looking up to the hills from whence cometh our help. Our help cometh from the Lord who made heaven and earth. Thank you Jesus for being our help even when we think the worst, you never stop you never stop working. Let us have your mind everyday and think the way we should with your guidance.

  37. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Be careful who you align yourself with. No everyone is there for your good. Some people take pleasure in seeing you in pain. When you build a strong relationship with God, he will give you discernment on the people that cross your path. The God we serve is there for our success and does not want to see us fail.

  38. 5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

Jonadab provide the plan a thought and feeling that Ammin had. This is just as bad as committing the act. He placed the knife in his hand. It’s one thing to have a friend confide in you about their sin and you help lead them to Jesus. Yet it’s a totally different situation when you help plot with them.

  39. 3 But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man.

Subtil – literally, wise. The word is generally used in a good sense, but here, it means crafty.

This reminds me that in our Christian walk, we will find people like Jonadab. So we must be careful who we listen, when we ask for advice. A true friend will always tell you, what you don’t want to hear, but a Janadab will always tell you what is pleasing to your ears. Be careful who you are asking for advice. Always, listen to the men of God. He will tell you the truth.

  40. 2 Samuel 13:32 And Jonadab the son Shimeah David’s brother, answered and said, let not my Lord suppose that they have slain all the young men the king’s sons ; for Amnon only is dead: for by the appointment of Absalom this hath been determined from the day that he forced his sister Tamar.

After David sinned with Bathsheba, the prophet Nathan warned the king that the sword would never depart from his house. And David endured domestic problems from that day on.

  41. 5 And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.

Make sure you are receiving good sound wisdom. Every thing that you hear from others does not mean that it is the best option. Build that relationship with god . Maintain a fasting and prayer life so when you are hit with things you know how to dismiss it and don’t fall into everything that you hear.

  42. Sin is sin. We shouldn’t let our flesh and this world cause us to sin. Create in us clean hearts and renew a right Spirit within us. Search us everyday so that we are living according to your will.

  43. “Then suddenly Amnon’s love turned to hate, and he hated her even more than he had loved her. “Get out of here!” he snarled at her. “No, no!” Tamar cried. “Sending me away now is worse than what you’ve already done to me.” But Amnon wouldn’t listen to her.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:15-16‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/2sa.13.15-16.nlt

Amnon sinned so greatly. The devil uses friends to trick you into falling into sin, watch out with the people you hang out with. Amnon knew he was doing a bad thing, but still done it. There is no reason for us to sin. Amnon left Tarmar to suffer ,for his sin turn him to love to hate.

  44. “Her brother Absalom said to her, “Has that Amnon, your brother, been with you? Be quiet for now, my sister; he is your brother. Don’t take this thing to heart.” And Tamar lived in her brother Absalom’s house, a desolate woman. When King David heard all this, he was furious. And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad; he hated Amnon because he had disgraced his sister Tamar….

So Absalom’s men did to Amnon what Absalom had ordered. Then all the king’s sons got up, mounted their mules and fled. While they were on their way, the report came to David: “Absalom has struck down all the king’s sons; not one of them is left.” The king stood up, tore his clothes and lay down on the ground; and all his attendants stood by with their clothes torn.

Absalom fled and went to Talmai son of Ammihud, the king of Geshur. But King David mourned many days for his son.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:20-22, 29-31, 37‬ ‭NIV

Sooooo……your daughter gets raped and you have nothing to say, no response other ‬‬than being angry, no punishment for Amnon and no sympathy for Tamar. But you think all your sons are dead and you rip all your clothes off in mourning? Sometimes I’m baffled at the way women were treated, I have nothing to say but be thankful that cultures and customs have changed and evolved so much over time that we, as women, now have a voice in society. My heart goes out to women who’s voices have been muffled by, not only their abusers but, the society that also silenced them in cases such as this.

  45. 19 And Tamar put ashes on her head, and rent her garment of divers colours that was on her, and laid her hand on her head, and went on crying.

What a horrible thing that happen to this woman, but in spite of this she went straight to the Lord. She didn’t cry unto him in anger towards him but rather prayed to him. She put her own hand on her head and prayed for herself and her situation. Some of us need to give God our situations and not dwell in them for days, weeks, even months at a time. If you give it to Jesus then that settles it.

  46. After Absalom fled and went to Geshur, he stayed there three years.

What Amnon did was sin. Sin that brought death not only for him but it caused pain, hatred, anger, and revenge. Absalom was still dealing with what he had done 5 years later. Not only was he living in anger he killed his own brother. We have to be watchful and pray without ceasing to be sensitive to His Spirit. Sin will never lead for good. Remember that everything we do will not only affect us but everyone those around us.

  47. 28 Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you? be courageous, and be valiant.

Sometimes we have to kill the problem in our life. Kill the sin, kill the flesh, so that life can be what God promised. So that life can not be lead by the sin and mistakes made.

  48. “But Amnon had a friend, whose name was Jonadab, the son of Shimeah David’s brother: and Jonadab was a very subtil man. And he said unto him, Why art thou, being the king’s son, lean from day to day? wilt thou not tell me? And Amnon said unto him, I love Tamar, my brother Absalom’s sister. And Jonadab said unto him, Lay thee down on thy bed, and make thyself sick: and when thy father cometh to see thee, say unto him, I pray thee, let my sister Tamar come, and give me meat, and dress the meat in my sight, that I may see it, and eat it at her hand.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭13:3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Oh be careful little ear what you hear

Amnon listen to a friend that spoke to him of deceit. Then out of this deceit Amnon acted. The lie begat more sin until the unthinkable. Sin will always lead you deeper into sin. Amnon fought with sin to get the hat he wanted and once obtained his sin tainted the receiving of it. If he would have been truthful things would have been different but through sin things become so cloudy and distorted that what you think is not what you really get.
