2 Samuel 21

Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?

And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,

Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the Lord: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

11 And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

12 And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:

13 And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

14 And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.

15 Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.

16 And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.

17 But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.

18 And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.

19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him.

22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

  1. In this chapter is where political negotiations where made for the seven sons life. Harsh Justice…..

    “Be safe Church”……….

  2. 2 Samuel 21:18,20,22
[18]After this, there was another battle against the Philistines at Gob. As they fought, Sibbecai from Hushah killed Saph, another descendant of the giants.
[20]In another battle with the Philistines at Gath, they encountered a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot, twenty-four in all, who was also a descendant of the giants.
[22]These four Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them.

When we are faced with giants in our lives remember God is always with us.

If God puts a Goliath in front of you, he must believe there is David inside of you.

  3. 21 And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him.
22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

It seems to be a beautiful poetic justice that the Lord not just delivered Goliath into the hands of David, who stood boldly before the Philistines and pronounced the name of the Lord but relatives and close men of David’s army seem to have inherited that same boldness and defeated descendants and relatives of Goliath. It’s almost as if God was not just taking down a giant in David’s life but following through for the Israelites by destroying anything related to the giant. The Lord is a protective father and a vengeful protector to his children. We know that his mercy and Grace and Earth forever but we also know that God has our backs at the end of the day as long as we are walking and continuing faithfully with him

That was some hard times back in the bible days some innocent person has to pay for others peoples mistakes, Death is a very expensive debt to pay.

Don’t ever give up! Every battle you face in your life the LORD JESUS will give you the victory over your enemy. Allow Him to fight your battles, put them in His hands and out of your hand. By His strength alone you shall not maybe overcome!

“Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for God’s wrath [and His judicial righteousness]; for it is written [in Scripture], “V ENGEANCE IS M INE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.”

[ 15] And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher and supporter in your old age, for your daughter- in law who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, he borne him.
I can only imagine what people went through from Generation to Generation. Its seems very hard at times.
    Thank you Jesus.

  7. 1 There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the LORD about it. And the LORD said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.”

5 Then they replied, “It was Saul who planned to destroy us, to keep us from having any place at all in the territory of Israel.

6 So let seven of Saul’s sons be handed over to us, and we will execute them before the LORD at Gibeon, on the mountain of the LORD.” “All right,” the king said, “I will do it.” NLT

One man’s deed caused a whole region to suffer through three years of famine and cost seven of his sons their lives…don’t be that guy, your mistakes could hurt more than just you.

    No man is an island,
    Entire of itself;
    Every man is a piece
    of the continent,
    A part of the main.

    If a clod be washed
    away by the sea,
    Europe is the less,
As well as if a promontory were:
As well as if a manor of thy friend’s
    Or of thine own were.

    Any man’s death diminishes me,
Because I am involved in mankind.
And therefore never send to know
    for whom the bell tolls;
    It tolls for thee.
    – John Donne

  8. 4 And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.
5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,
6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

Some choices we make now end up affecting our next generations, that cannot be mended with all the silver and gold we might possess. Let us listen to God’s voice and follow His commandments throughly. One wrong choice can change the course of your life and your most loved ones. Break that chain of famine in your life that is keeping you from receiving your full blessing. Yes… It will be very painful, but necessary to release and receive God’s blessings for our generations to come.

  9. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

Have we enquired of the LORD today?
HE answers and sometimes we may not want to acknowledge HIS answer because it is not what we want to hear , BUT let us not be fooled unto our own desires lest we perish in this life in vain!!! MY GOD IS FAITHFUL!!! MAKE THIS LIFE COUNT BY GROWING THE KINGDOM OF GOD

  10. 22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants

It doesn’t matter how giant the problem is, my God can conquer it!

  11. Verses 20-21 CEV “There was another war, this time in Gath. One of the enemy soldiers was a descendant of the Rephaim. He was as big as a giant and had six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot. But when he made fun of Israel, David’s nephew Jonathan killed him. Jonathan was the son of David’s brother Shimei.” No matter how ugly or how big the giants are that you face in this life, God will give you the victory, if you are obediently following His commands. Philippians 1:28 CEV says “Be brave when you face your enemies. Your courage will show them that they are going to be destroyed, and it will show you that you will be saved. God will make all of this happen,”. Proverbs 13:6, 21 AMP says “Righteousness (being in right standing with God) guards the one whose way is blameless, But wickedness undermines and overthrows the sinner.” “Adversity pursues sinners, But the [consistently] upright will be rewarded with prosperity.”

  12. 2 Samuel 21

1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

2 And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

3 Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?

4 And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

5 And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,

  13. 7 But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the Lord’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

Don’t forget the promises you have made. Even after Jonathan is dead David never forgot his oath to his brother. Jonathan was not only a friend to David, to him Jonathan was his brother. They forged a true love further than blood. He never forgot and even after Jonathan’s death, David asked if there was anyone left in his household that he can show his kindness to, and that’s when a servant told him about Mephibosheth. David kept him close enough that he ate at David’s table. It was the love David had for his friend Jonathan that again saves Mephibosheth. So don’t forget the promises you have made to your friends and brothers. Hold them true even after their death.

  14. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord.

We see here that the wrath or judgment of God was coming against Israel because of what Saul has done by not completely eliminating the Amorites during the battle. We find that even though David was king he still had to endure the judgment. But He went to make atonement for the faults of another by allowing the Gibeonites tell them what will make atonement for them. The Gibeonites wanted seven men of the sons of Saul to be hung to make atonement. And the king complied.

You see sometimes we will have to make peace with God for others that have been disobedient and it may take us making things right with God. In the process we may even by affected by the other person’s circumstances that we didn’t even had nothing to do with. We have everything in the balances of Gods hands because it’s him whom we have to be obedient. You never allow the world to dictate how and when we will be obedient to God’s commands. You see we may have to swallow our pride to make atonement a and give something sacrificial to pay for our atonement. If we are to be the church in this end time, we have to be ready to obey God and do what it takes to keep the favor of God over our house and the church.

  15. I will serve the Lord all the rest of my days. The Lord is a strong tower that should cover me against mine enemies. This teaching is of some tough times. God is faithful.

  16. 2 Samuel Chapter 21
we see war and the aftermath of war and death but out of death comes life. We see this all the time in nature trees and flowers live and show there beauty. Yet we see life regenerate and trees that have fallen still saplings still spring up. King David is still clearing the ground for the Lord, If my knowledge is true King Solomon rained David son did not have to go out to war. He was not called by God a bloody King but the wisest King Israel had. Out of kayos
some times beauty is born. Praise the name of Jesus.

I AM NOT BACKING DOWN FROM ANY GIANT

22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

One of the most inspiring songs thet we sing at The POFW is “See a Victory”

    “See A Victory”

The weapon may be formed, but it won’t prosper
When the darkness falls, it won’t prevail
Cause the God I serve knows only how to triumph
    My God will never fail
Oh my God will never fail

    I’m gonna see a victory
    I’m gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to you Lord
    I’m gonna see a victory
    I’m gonna see a victory
For the battle belongs to you Lord

There’s power in the mighty name of Jesus
Every war He wages He will win
IM NOT BACKING DOWN FROM ANY GIANT
Cause I know how this story ends
Yes I know how this story ends

We witness the value of Leadership. David didn’t back down from Goliath and now the servants of David don’t back down from the giants they face.

I encourage you to be bold and brave today as you face whatever giant that may appear in your life.

I See a VICTORY for my life and for The POFW family in JESUS Name.

1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

When I read this verse it just jumped off the screen. Wow, God himself sent a famine to punish the bloodshed of Saul. Remember, Saul was already dead but God was still punishing the land. You ever think that some of the plagues happening today in the USA might be from all the innocence blood of abortion. You know, most folks do not understand the brutality of abortion. To make a long story short, abortion doctors rip the limbs off babies who are still alive and then crush the skull of the babies who are still alive and then remove each piece from the mother. This is the shedding of innocent blood in the most cruel way imaginable… yes, maybe America needs to repent.

  19. 22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Many giants will try to come up against us, but we know if we stand strong God will always bring victory!

  20. Rizpah: Need, extension, a burning coal.

Aiah: vulture, a wild large bird, a person who prays our exploits others.

    ——
    21:9-15.
David gave these seven men to the Giveonites
Who then brought them to mount Gibeah and
Hanged them in front of the Lord.
These seven men died together the first days of the barley harvest.
Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took the morning cloth and put it on the rock, that cloth stayed on the rock
From the time the harvest began until the rain came.
Rizpah watched the bodies day and night, she protected them from the wild birds ( Vultures ..)
During the day and from the wild animals at night.
People told David what she was doing, then David took the bones of Saul and Jonathan from the men
    Of Jabesh Gillead.
David brought the bones of Saul and his son Jonathan
From jabesh and buried them in the area of Benjamin in one of the tunnels in the grave of Sauls father Kish
    As the king commanded.
After that God again listened to the prayers of the people in the land.
    ————

    Wow!!! Wow!!!
Nothing stopped this woman … she did, what she knew she ought to do, Stayed by these dead bodies for a while until something was done( something happened…)
And it did ( PRAISE GOD🙌).

    In my own words:

I will come to the Rock
And I will stay there by it
Yes, I will wait, until my prayer is answer, for I know He will hear me
    And answer me.
The angels might go and tell him about me
I will do my part, I will do what I know
And also what I have seen others do…
I will wait , and As I wait, There’ll be
A fire Burning down in my soul.

    ——

    God hears
    Angels are at work
My Rock is for me , and if my Rock is for me
    Who can be against?.

    • God has answered the prayer of my heart before, ( big things, little things…) he’ll do it again, this thing I know. Yay🙌!!!!

  21. 10 And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

A mothers love never gives up loving her children. God never gives it gives up on his people.

  22. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

There was a famine and David prayed for direction. David received his answer and had to make the choice of who he would deliver over to be put to death. Sauls sin carried through to his descendants. David understanding the covenant he had made with Jonathan knew he could not give Jonathan over.

Let us understand that David was willing to make things right but not at the cost of breaking a covenant. David made a covenant with Jonathan and he also promised Saul not to cut off his name from Israel. In anger of the famine it would have been easy for David to hand over Mephibosheth but he kept his covenant.

Ones integrity is very important it is noble to want to make things right but it should not be at the cost of breaking a covenant with those you love and hold dear. We should seek God for direction in hard matters because He will give us the wisdom to come up with a plan that will work for all.

  23. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

There was a famine and David prayed for direction. David received his answer and had to make the choice of who he would deliver over to be put to death. In anger of the famine it would have been easy for David to hand over Mephibosheth but he kept his covenant.

  24. We find restitution for a wrong in this chapter, yet those paying the restitution was not the ones who performed the wrong act. This act of restitution effected many families, 7 to be exact among many other relatives.

Every now and again I am reminded of Bro. Tallent’s message at the south campus many years ago. The high cost of a bad decision. No doubt Saul had no idea that the decision he made that day would effect many of his family members down the road and bring sorrow to so many.

We must weigh every decision we make very wisely. Not only does it effect us but it effect those that come after us.

  25. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

The Lord is just. When we are not in a right standing with the Lord there is a price to pay. In the end when we seek the Lord’s will, He will ensure our victory.

  26. 2 Samuel 21:2 & 7 (CEV)
    2) The Gibeonites were not Israelites; they were descendants of the Amorites. The people of Israel had promised not to kill them, but Saul had tried to kill them because he wanted Israel and Judah to control all the land.
    7) David had made a promise to Jonathan with the LORD as his witness, so he spared Jonathan’s son Mephibosheth, the grandson of Saul.

The people of Israel had promised the Gibeonites not to kill them, BUT Saul had tried to kill them.
Saul Did Not Keep The Promise.

David had made a promise to Jonathan, and he spared Mephibosheth’s life.
    David Kept His Promise.

    “Promise Breaker or Promise Keeper?”
    Ecclesiastes 5:4-6 (CEV)
    4) God doesn’t like fools. So don’t be slow to keep your promises to God.
    5) It’s better not to make a promise at all than to make one and not keep it.
    6) Don’t let your mouth get you in trouble! And don’t say to the worship leader, I didn’t mean what I said. God can destroy everything you have worked for, so don’t say something that makes God angry.

If you can’t keep a promise, don’t make a promise in the first place. Don’t let your mouth get you in trouble. As the KJV says, “Suffer not thy mouth to cause they flesh to sin…”
    BUT
If you have made a promise, keep it!!!!

  27. These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David and of his servants. 2 Samuel 21:22

It doesn’t matter how big or strong people are as long as they are on the side of our Lord Jesus Christ. David was a young boy when he slew Goliath, but had God in his heart.
I thank you Jesus for this day!

  28. 1 “Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lord answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.”

Seems simple: something bad happened, David enquired, the Lord answered. That is what verse 1 states. However, in our own walks with God the simplicity of it isn’t always so simple.

Hebrews 13:8 ” Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.”

  29. “There was a famine during David’s reign that lasted for three years, so David asked the Lord about it. And the Lord said, “The famine has come because Saul and his family are guilty of murdering the Gibeonites.” So the king summoned the Gibeonites. They were not part of Israel but were all that was left of the nation of the Amorites. The people of Israel had sworn not to kill them, but Saul, in his zeal for Israel and Judah, had tried to wipe them out.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭21:1-2 NLT
This is a good example of how good intentions don’t excuse bad actions. We often excuse bad actions in ourselves and in others because of what we think are good intentions. But God examines both our intentions and our actions.

  30. 1 Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the Lord. And the Lordanswered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

As we serve God, there will be times in life were we might feel like it doesn’t get better, that’s the time to enquire of the Lord and wait for his response to show us what’s the problem. He will answer and we must follow and obey his answer. There is no other way for things to get better. Enquire of the Lord 🙏🙏🙏🙏

  31. “For three years in a row there wasn’t enough food in the land. That was while David was king. So David asked the Lord why he wasn’t showing his favor to his people. The Lord said, “It is because Saul and his family committed murder. He put the people of Gibeon to death.””
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭21:1‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Just one persons single action can ripple to the people around. It may be hidden or open. That doesn’t matter because God see’s all and know’s all. The sin of one family caused the whole land to be punished.

  32. These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Giants are going to fall! In Jesus name

  33. 22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

Whenever we face a giant we should never stand in fear but we should always stand in peace knowing that whenever we stand against them God will always stand with us and he shall make the fall, and god has given us the power to take on any giant in our lives but we should never take it for granted because it is through Christ that we are given power to face anything.

  34. “Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the Lord?”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭21:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Have you ever had to clean up someone else’s mess? Whether literally or figuratively? Both don’t feel good. I know for me I used to ask myself well why do I need to clean this up- I didn’t do it. I learned through experience that it doesn’t matter who did it, what matters is that someone was offended or wronged. In this instance I remember the scripture Luke 6:36- Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

I thank God for His grace and mercy. I pray we show the mercy and forgiveness He’s shown us to someone else.

  35. 1 There was a famine in David’s time. It went on year after year after year- three years. David went to God seeking the reason. God said “This is because there is blood on Saul and his house, from the time he massacred the Gibeonites.
    2 Samuel 21:1 MSG

Our actions and our words affect/influence others, and we might not notice it. We must watch how we talk or act because we are the children of the Lord we must show what is right and talk what is right, we must help those who are guiding themselves into the wrong direction. Let us change the ways and let us be the next strong generation of the Lord, let us be the people he brought us here to be. Let us not break our promises to the Lord let us be strong with it just like David was with his covenants, for the Lord never fails on his promises.

  36. “Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.”
    ‭‭
All over the Bible and even up to this very day we see the countless times Gods people is attacked. It’s never ending and I believe it’s because the adversary knows he will never win. Jesus humbly submitted himself to his will what had to be done for our sins and never fell into the temptation of the devil. He never folded to the battle. The anointed will always be attacked and have a target placed upon them. So if you don’t have a target then check your spirit.

  37. “These four Philistines were descendants of the giants of Gath, but David and his warriors killed them.”
    2 Samuel 21:22 NLT

There’s no giant too big for God. Brethren, there is no reason to fear for God is bigger than all your problems. So don’t lose you trust in God because of how the situation is looking like. Things don’t always seem what they seem it may look like your losing but if your trust is in God. Rejoice because the victory has been won by Lord. The Lord will defend them that love his name and will bless the righteous with favor and will be a shield to them.

  38. And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him. These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.
    2 Samuel 21:21‭-‬22 KJV

Legacy of giant slayers…. you never know how far your faith can go. Your very own act of faith can go even farther to affect generations down the line of those that get inspired by your giant step of faith. When we take that first step into the water with Jesus in to the real of the unknown we are saying that it can be done. You every action is weighed with a measurement of multiplication. Your decisions now can have a great impact in your family members from coming generations. When we add God multiples. Put your faith in God and take steps that will mark people forever. Be brave and love for Jesus. Be bold on the word, devotion, prayer and worship. There are those that are perhaps watching and get that seed of faith to do mighty things just from your faith and boldness. It can be done. You can be a person filled with faith that can bring down giants. After all you will not be going on your own, but on the name of the Lord of hosts. His name is Jesus.

  39. 8 But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

Ok hold up … Michal never had children (2 Samuel 6:23) to the day of her death. It was her curse for mocking David while he was praising God. She did remarry to Adiel but she never bore his children. This is why this verse clearly says “brought up”. She may have raised these sons as her own. However, Michal does not have that maternal connection that Rizpah does.

Only a real mother would grieve for her children in such a way. This reveals the true character, for Michal was not a mother in the natural sense.

Also a side note the Barzillai mentioned here is from Gilead and not the old wealthy man that blessed David and his men back in 2 Sam 19. Instead the one mentioned in this chapter is of Barzillai the Meholathite.

Rizpah doesn’t have a squeaky clean record either. In fact, she was the concubine of Saul, with whom Abner had committed adultery (2Samuel 3:7). Nevertheless, she did have two sons that were handed over by the king to the Gibeonites.

King David makes an executive decision to hand over the 7 sons of Saul to the Gibeonites. I do believe that this choice was harsh but to be fair David did seek the Lord in regards to the three year famine in their land. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

The law required eye for an eye. Why now after Saul has been dead for so long? Gods timing is just different then ours. At some point grace will run out. Like all sins this calls for atonement or amends. David spares Jonathan’s son to keep in line with his oath between the two before God. Which of course God will recognize and grant. The role of a king is not always glitz and glam. It also contains tough calls like atoning for a sin committed by a former Israelite king.

This also pertains to us. Sometimes people may say something or do something harsh without thinking of the consequences of their actions. It may scar a new believer or push some away from seeking God. We represent Jesus, he calls his children ambassadors of Christ. Sometimes, we can misrepresent him either deliberately or unknowingly. Those sins need to be repented of and called to restoration of the afflicted. This is were we get the opportunity to exercise forgiveness of those who may never know they wounded us. Forgiveness indeed covers a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8)

  40. “And when he taunted Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimei, David’s brother, struck him down.”(‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭21:21‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

There’s a point in life where we have to make the decision to tell the enemy enough is enough. When the enemy tries to taunt us we know our God is greater. No enemy can stand before our Lord Almighty.

..greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” 1 John 4:4

  41. 6 Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the Lord in Gibeah of Saul, whom the Lord did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

Because of Saul’s mistakes his descendents had to pay the price. Its leaving dept for your children to pay after you die. More important its leaving habits, generational curses, and mental disorders. These are major setbacks in your relationship with God. This a dept the if not dealt with that can leave your spirit in famine and darkness. So in my mistakes, I leave a chance that my children will be left with the dept. Unless I teach them better they won’t know any better and they will die to this world as well.

    Proverbs 22
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

  42. “During the reign of David, there was a famine for three successive years; so David sought the face of the Lord. The Lord said, “It is on account of Saul and his blood-stained house; it is because he put the Gibeonites to death.”

They answered the king, “As for the man who destroyed us and plotted against us so that we have been decimated and have no place anywhere in Israel, let seven of his male descendants be given to us to be killed and their bodies exposed before the Lord at Gibeah of Saul—the Lord’s chosen one.” So the king said, “I will give them to you.””
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭21:1, 5-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This is a great chapter to remind us our actions and our choices effect more than just us in the moment or in our lifetime. Our choices have the ability to bring death to generations after us and they also have the power to bring life instead. Let’s not make decisions or react to things around us on something emotion but we should think and pray before moving forward.

  43. 19 And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.
20 And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

The Bible doesn’t mention some people’s names at times because it is irrelevant. Here in this passage it mentions that this particular giant has six fingers per hand and six toes per foot. What is the importance or significance of this reference??

22 These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

All four fallen at the hand of David. Only by the grace of God are we able to slay the giants in our lives. I pray to have that same quality of David and be an overcomer in Christ.

  44. David asked them, “What can I do for you? How can I make amends so that you will bless the Lord ’s people again?”
    2 Samuel 21:3 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/2sa.21.3.NLT

Making amends and asking forgiveness of someone can be such a freeing experience. You can’t always reach out to someone you may have wronged but in certain situations it can be such a healing experience. God is so good to allow us opportunities to do such.

  45. It takes great dedication to stay up all manner of day and night to protect the bones of your loved ones from the evil of the day and night. If you don’t get sleep you could go mad. Sometimes I wonder if we have that same dedication to the new souls of the church? Will we protect them at all costs or will we allow danger of the night or noon day to come pluck them up?
