Psalm 42

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?

10 As with a sword in my bones, mine enemies reproach me; while they say daily unto me, Where is thy God?

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

  1. 4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

This Psalm expresses thoughts and emotions of the believer. This speaks of depression and dispair that crops out of oppressive circumstances. In the end we can see the hope ln the attributes of the Lord, creates a balist in the turmoil.

  2. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

When I think of HIS goodness and what HE’S done for me!!! HALELUJAH!!! It’s true praise and worship is the best way to go through the valley’s !!!

  3. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

It’s one of the lovely paradoxes we have with living for God. He satisfies us but at the same time we thirst for Him. We desire Him like a deer pants for water. My soul cannot go long without You, Lord. I feel depleted, deficient, and bankrupt. I need You in my life every moment of every day.

  4. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God

There is something about basking in the press of God that trumps any type of experience we could have on this Earth. I can call many times sitting in the sanctuary by myself just wanting more of God and wanting to know him more deeply. It is something that I try very hard not to take for granted that we are freely giving access to the throne of God. The maker of this universe and earth, opens the portals of heaven and allows us entry. And there’s something beautiful and poetic about sitting at the feet of Jesus and there’s nothing more satisfying

  5. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

No matter what comes my way, I will say Hallelujah Anyhow!!! Lift up your head and look to where you help comes from for it comes from above!! Trust in the Lord with all your heart and don’t let your soul be trouble, just TRUST IN JESUS HE WILL SEE YOU THROUGH IT ALL!!!

  6. When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

7 Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: all thy waves and thy billows are gone over me.

  7. Psalms 42:11, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

Do you ever talk to yourself?
    Do you answer yourself?
I believe this is what David is doing in this scripture. He is asking himself a couple of questions. “Soul, why are you cast down? why are you discouraged? and why are you disquieted? why are you worried and anxious?” Then he gives himself the answer and good advice. “HOPE IN GOD! Put your Faith and Trust in Him and continue to Praise Him. For He not only is your God, but He is the health of your countenance. He’s the one who will gives you PEACE and JOY in your life through all things.”

So, today, if your feeling a little discouraged or worried and anxious about something, put your HOPE IN GOD! PRAISE HIM! and He’ll give you the PEACE and JOY you need to go through it!

Thank You JESUS for HOPE today.
Thank You JESUS for PEACE today.
Thank You JESUS for JOY today.

  8. Oh Lord I thirst for you I wait for you , where are you Lord? He says I’m right here waiting for you my child that is longing for me. Thank you Lord for being there for me. You are my rock.

  9. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

This psalm most likely penned by David with the sense and faith of God helping the the outward affliction or the inward distress of the situation of Saul’s persecution or Absalom’s rebellion. Either way there is a dire need to be in the presence of the almighty God. We find that our faith may be tested and tried as David was, but no matter the need, Like him we have to find a place to go so we can get the attention of God. We have to allow the test of our faith to hold fast and believe that God will deliver us. The scripture states very clearly that without faith it is impossible to please God.

So everything in this day and hour is about testing our faithfulness to God and see that we can please him through hold fast and sacrificing the things that cause us the most pain. We have to depend on his word and his mercy to hold fast to us as we hold fast to him. We can allow the enemy to detour us away from the promise of God. No matter how hard it may seem we have to hold the the anchor that will keep us.

  10. Verse 2 MSG “I want to drink God, deep draughts of God. I’m thirsty for God-alive. I wonder, “Will I ever make it—arrive and drink in God’s presence?” I can only imagine what it will be like! John 4:14 AMP “But whoever drinks the water that I give him will never be thirsty again. But the water that I give him will become in him a spring of water [satisfying his thirst for God] welling up [continually flowing, bubbling within him] to eternal life.”

  11. 11. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again- my Savior and my God! NLT

Sometimes I think we let ourselves become discouraged and don’t even know why. Did we really have a bad day, or just a few bad moments we let ruin our whole day? When we start feeling down, let’s remember to put our hope in God, not on those we’ve allowed to bring us down, and let a good praise break bring us back up!

  12. Psa 42:1  To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
Psa 42:2  My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

I haven’t looked at the other blogs but I imagine this is the go to today. What if we took this scripture and applied it to our prayers today.
Jesus today I pray that every person that’s contacted today sees nothing but the act and love of you. I pray that something inside of them awakens and a vehement hunger and thirst for you is awaken or born. I pray that the simple acts of the fruits of the Spirit do nothing but reflect your image to them and they have the desire to seek you more. Whether they make to the house of God or turn their house to your house God but ye shall touch them with your Spirit today and I’m believing that in Jesus name.

  13. HE’ll DO IT AGAIN…!!!

42:11 Why are you in despair
    O my soul?
    Why have you become restless
    And disquieted within me?

    Hope in god and wait
    Expectantly fort Him, fort
    I shall yet praise Him.

    The help of my countenance
    And my. god.

    ——

    Peace, sweet peace.
One moment you are restless ( or four days or weeks…)
You know , I know.. we know God had and will do that which we have asked of him in prayer with thanksgiving.( according t his will)
But we let our emotions and what it seems to be the reality we are living rule and convince us that God is far away ….

But suddenly, in the waiting process his touch, his grace changes everything
We get up and keep walking the walk of faith.
And this is IFE, we will have ups and downs, we will face rough times…
but my Bible says : that my Abba will never leave me not forsake me. 😀 hallelujah, blessed be the name of the Lord.

    ..
    🙏

  14. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Sometimes you have to encourage yourself in the Lord. No matter how you feel, PRAISE HIM and speak victory in the name of Jesus over yourself.

  15. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    I WILL PRAISE THE LORD

11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

In challenging times it is common for people to become discouraged, even frustrated with the current conditions of life. It is most tempting to place the BLAME on GOD.

For this cause we need the chrurch. To encourage one another to PRAISE THE LORD. Some belevers are determined enough to encourage themselves in the LORD.

Lets practice this today and everyday. When we feel discouraged lets PRAISE the LORD who is the HEALT of my countenance (how others see me). I WILL PRAISE THE LORD to LIVE JESUS before others.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo

  16. Ps. 42 :5 [ amp] Why are you cast down, O my inner self ? And why should you moan over me and be disquieted within me? Hope in God and wait expectantly for Him, my Help and my God.
David encouraged his self to God.
We need to tell self there is hope in God.
    God will never forsake us.
And yet I will wait for him and give him praise.

  17. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus

Psa 42:3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

There will be times in life (or years in life i.e. 2020) where you will be mocked for serving God. It might look like God is a million miles away…(He is a million miles away, but He’s also still here at the same time). During these uncertain times we must remain rooted and grounded in His Love. We must not allow our faith to be shaken. We must have the same character and faith that the patriarchs of faith had. As Stephen was being stoned, he cried out to Jesus to forgive them for they knew not what they were doing. He didn’t question God or God’s purpose. He must press through this and overcome.

  18. AMP – As the deer pants [longingly] for the water brooks,
So my [a]soul pants [longingly] for You, O God.
2 My soul (my life, my inner self) thirsts for God, for the living God.
When will I come and see the face of God?

When we were vacationing we did quite a bit of sightseeing. One particular park that we went to there were deer and buffalo, but for miles and miles you just seen desert. I wondered how do these animals drink. Yet I know that water is important to them and I’m sure their keen sense leads them to places where water can be found even in the desert.

That’s how our soul should long for the Lord. Longing in such a way for our Savior means we won’t stop until we find Him. We must not be satisfied with anything else but God. We must not stop until we fill that longingly for His presence each day. If we will drink from His well, we will find the fulfillment that many are searching for and we have daily access too.

  19. Psalms 42
    Questions after questions.
Why are you down in the dumps, dear soul?
Why are you crying the blues?

Raise a Hallelujah the more you praise the stronger you will become. Seek the company of those who know how to encourage and pray with one another. Believe together talk of the blessings of God

God is our strength we will continue to praise Him…..
Don’t look at the worst look at what God is going to do keep giving Him praise! Though physically we may be weakened we must stay healthy spiritually allow God’s power to stay stirred up within you.
He is our health and the joy of our life.

    Fix my eyes on God—
    soon I’ll be praising again.
He puts a smile on my face.
    He’s my God.

  20. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”
    Psalms 42:11 KJV

When I can’t feel you nor see you. You’re still working and my hope is in you Lord. I praise you in advance God for what you’re going to do. I will praise you God for you love is never ending.

  21. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Always thirst for more of the Lord, hes a never ending well of nourishment. This world can leave your soul feeling dried up and dehydrated.

    John 4:14
but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him shall never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

  22. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

Regardless of why we would have a bad day, which we all do on occasion, God is still in control. If we would think back on how God has been our help, our deliverer and healer, we can be still and wait on Him. He doesn’t leave nor forsake us, but is an on time God. Praise him in advance for his goodness and mercy.

  23. 2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

We should always have the never ending desire to have more of God each and every day, from the time we rise to the time we lay down to rest we should always want more of God. And on the other hand we should always have the desire to share the truth and word of god with others so that way they can experience god like the woman at the well who was giving life giving water.

  24. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

3 My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?

4 When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.

“It’s hard to believe He still loves me
Knowing how wrong I have been
When all I can say is I’m sorry
When all I can feel is my sin
He understands when all I do is cry
He feels the hurt that no one can see down inside
And when the words get in the way
    I know He still hears
    For He understands my tears.
You may not believe that I’m broken
For all you can see is my smile
Oh but He hears the heart that’s unspoken
And He gives me strength through each trial
He understands when all I do is cry
He feels the hurt that no one can see down inside
And when the words get in the way
    I know He still hears
    For He understands my tears”

Nothing feels better than being in the presence of God, weeping cleanses our souls!

  25. My soul thirsteh for God; for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God? Psalm 42:2

We should daily want to be with God and get closer to our LORD. It saddened me greatly that church will be on line only for a week, but I understand why. I love going to church and having fellowship with everyone. GOD is always here for us under all circumstances. Thank you Lord for this day.

  26. “Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/psa.42.11.nlt

Must put God ahead of our problem and praise Him in our troubles. Have faith that he will save us from the wicked.

  27. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Let us not be down or question why we feel disquieted. But put all hope in God, who is the Author of our lives, Creator of all things. Instead of feeling the emotions of distress or discouragement. Lift up your voice and sing praises to the King of Kings. Who will make a way in the mist of all the troubles surrounding us.

  28. Remember how good God has been

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

There are plenty of opportunities for us to be down and out this year but what we have to do is remember how good God has been to us. Someone said “ If God never does another thing for me, He’s done enough.” God has been good to us. And his mercies are new each morning.

  29. “O my God, my soul is in despair within me [the burden more than I can bear]; Therefore I will [fervently] remember You from the land of the Jordan And the peaks of [Mount] Hermon, from Mount Mizar.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:6‬ ‭AMP‬‬

When we start to feel overwhelmed or hopeless, that is the best time to open the Word of God and read a story. Go for one of the classics often taught in Sunday school or a newer lesser taught one but I promise we will always find renewed hope and the glory of God in each one. One o my favorite stories of the Bible is a brief one. One of the miracles Jesus performed. He walked through a town in which a mother was mourning because her son had died. Jesus saw her sadness, had compassion, and decided to raise him from the dead. He blessed her just because she was sad. That’s what gives me hope when I feel all is going wrong. Jesus saw that widow and didn’t like that she had to mourn so He changed her situation. That’s how I believe God treats me, how I pray He treats those around me.

I thank God for knowing how to make my heart joyous! I pray we continue to be excited about the Word of God!

By the way that story is in Luke 7:11-15

  30. 5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

6 O my God, my soul is cast down within me: therefore will I remember thee from the land of Jordan, and of the Hermonites, from the hill Mizar.

This sounds like the Psalmist is pausing to ask himself ..why? Why am I so downcast and unease? He’s giving himself a check up from the neck up. This is a good trait of character when serving the Lord. Sometimes we get all in our feels and emotions and let them control us. Instead of dwelling on the negative in his situation, he chooses to remember the goodness of God.

Winston Churchill once said “if your going through hell, keep going.” This is what the Psalmist is doing. He recognizes that he could throw himself a pity party but the opportunity to praise God for what he’s done and fixing to do. If we are going through a hard time, keep going because if God will bring us to something then he will bring us through it.

  31. “But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me, and through each night I sing his songs, praying to God who gives me life.”(‭‭Psalms‬ ‭42:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

Each day is a gratitude to wake up and actually be able to open our eyes and breathe in the air of our father and give praise and thanks to our Savior. The one and only that has brought us into this world and has given us life.

  32. Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad? I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again— my Savior and my God!
    Psalms 42:11 NLT

It seems thst we are given the antidote to discouragement or being down. Just praise God again. Put your hope in God again as you remember all the great things he has already done for you. We dont have to overanalyze or complicate things. Simply do what the Word says. Put your hope in God and praise him again. He inhabits the praises of his people. So it will he clear that your praise will make God a dwelling place.

  33. 1 As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

2 My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?

The psalmist blesses me with these great analogies. A young deer’s desire to drink. He searches for a place to drink even when he’s at a point of exhaustion and he’s panting. This compared to our great desire to seek the Lord.

  34. 1 As the heart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

A thirst I never want to lose. Pastor and many other evangelists have taught it from so many different directions: we cannot lose our desire for His Kingdom. We cannot lose the desire to serve Him. We cannot lose the desire to please Him. Let my life be all for You Jesus!

  35. 11Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!

With God there no need to be discouraged. Yes, we may go thru trouble times, but after prayer and praise, joy returns to your heart and mind.

  36. 11 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Ask yourself, “why am I casting myself down, condemning myself, . . . Why am I trying to quiet myself??” As we’ve read in this chapter, When we start questioning ourselves or God himself we just need to remind ourselves who our provider is. When life gets tough and we question “Does he hear my prayer?” Then we need that small reminder. Remember, that, “for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” Where does my help come from, he has helped me in the past, and who is my keeper and the health of my countenance?? He is! So why question? Just remember to recenter yourself.

  37. 8 Yet the Lord will command his lovingkindness in the day time, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life.

If we learned to worship through our darkest times, oh how things would change…

  38. “These things I remember, as I pour out my soul: how I would go with the throng and lead them in procession to the house of God with glad shouts and songs of praise, a multitude keeping festival.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭42:4‬ ‭ESV‬‬

No mater how bad things get you still need to be able to encourage yourself in the Lord. “Don’t you rennet when…”. “God got me through…and he can do it again!”Don’t let God just be your call when things are bad, call on him every hour.
