2 Samuel 23

Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lordwrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

11 And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.

12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.

13 And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

14 And David was then in an hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!

16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

18 And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three.

19 Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.

20 And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts, he slew two lionlike men of Moab: he went down also and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow:

21 And he slew an Egyptian, a goodly man: and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.

23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

24 Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty; Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem,

25 Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite,

26 Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite,

27 Abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite,

28 Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite,

29 Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin,

30 Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash,

31 Abialbon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite,

32 Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan,

33 Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite,

34 Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite,

35 Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite,

36 Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite,

37 Zelek the Ammonite, Nahari the Beerothite, armourbearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah,

38 Ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite,

39 Uriah the Hittite: thirty and seven in all.

When everything is said and done what are they going to say about us? Would somebody be there at your Funeral? What are they going to talk about? Or we good enough to say something about?

These were some of the last words of a king and a psalmist. He begins to talk about the man that would rule in his place and describes how the man had to commit to a covenant to God like he did. There was those he describes through our this chapter that wee were brave and valiant men that were successful at war. They were not scared of the battle.

We as the church in this end time have to be bold and courageous when the enemy comes in like a flood. We have to be willing to stand our ground and take them head on and not be scared of the battle. I have found as we are faithful to God, he would be faithful to us. We have to be willing to move into some difficult positions and move forward for the kingdom of God. There is no time like now to face the world and let the church to be the church. We have to move the mountains that we face each day. God will reward the faithful.

  4. Verse 5 NLT “Is it not my family God has chosen? Yes, he has made an everlasting covenant with me. His agreement is arranged and guaranteed in every detail. He will ensure my safety and success.” Deuteronomy 8:18 NLT says “Remember the Lord your God. He is the one who gives you power to be successful, in order to fulfill the covenant he confirmed to your ancestors with an oath.”

  5. 2 Sam 23: 5 [ amp] Truly does not my home stand so with God? For He has made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things and sure. For will He not cause to prosper all my help and my desire?.
Luke 21:15 [ amp] For I [ Myself] will give you a mouth and such utterance and wisdom that all of your foes combined will be unable to stand against or refute.
For the Lord will never forsake us or leave us.
The Lord is with us wherever we go.
The Holy Spirit will guide us and convicts us!
Lord today you will save Me.

  6. 2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

Can it be said if us that we allow the Spirit of the Lord to speak by us? Are we sensitive enough to the Spirit that He can speak to us and we speak it to others? And is His written Word in our hearts so that it can be on our tongues when we and others need to hear it?

  7. 16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

To pour it out unto the LORD. To become selfless when it comes to JESUS!!! To worship you I live!!! To worship you I live, I live to worship you!!!

  8. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus
Wow, the mighty acts of these mighty men are mind blowing 🤯. God used these men who originally were losers and turned them into giant killers. These were the same men who followed David into the cave before he was king. This is also what makes David’s sin with Bathsheba so horrible. If you notice, the last man mentioned in this chapter is the husband of Bathsheba. This is complete betrayal by David for the fact that Uriah was one of David’s mighty men who had followed him all these years faithfully.

  9. 22 These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men.
23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

Benaiah was not a part of the original three chosen top men that David had for his army, there didn’t seem to be some esoteric anointing on him that there was on some of the selected few that David had but the Bible tells us he was valiant and he was courageous and brave and he was named among them even though he was not selected. The Bible tells us he was more honorable than any of the other men and David’s armies. That tells us that you don’t have to be chosen for something special to do something special. You don’t have to have a specific anointing to make an impact in the kingdom of God. You just have to be willing and honorable. God anoints those that will step out in faith

  10. Next in rank was Shammah son of Agee from Harar. One time the Philistines gathered at Lehi and attacked the Israelites in a field full of lentils. The Israelite army fled, but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.

I love this story every time it’s told exclamation point and we still have our pot of beans :-)there’s a lot to be said about standing your ground and having unwavering faith in what God can do through you 🙂

  11. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    LEADERSHIP REQUIREMENT

3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

Spiritual Leadership does not always carry a title or identify by a position. Effective Spiritual Leaders however will always be identified by this ONE dynamic. They will rule or Lead in the fear of GOD.

There are positions of Leadership in the secular world that are attainable by work ethic and personality characteristics learned from Leadership Training. This is an admirable goal for a temporal life. But for our eternal life, to Lead well we must also LIVE well for JESUS, making choices and decisions in the fear or respect of GOD.

The fear of GOD will make us honest in word and deed, making choices based on The Kingdom of GOD rather than the kingdom of man. Decision making that pleases GOD first and man second.

David in his closing words of this life chose to give us this Leadership Lesson. Rule or Lead in the fear of GOD. May JESUS lead me to examine my audibles, attitudes and actions that I may be pleasing to HIM and that JESUS will lead all of us at The POFW to live and lead in the fear of GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive

  12. 16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.
17 And he said, Be it far from me, O Lord, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

His men risked their lives to bring this specific well water to him. He regarded it a being very precious. So he poured it out as a sacrifice to the Lord.

  13. “Then he will be like the light of morning at sunrise when there aren’t any clouds. He will be like the bright sun after rain that makes the grass grow on the earth.’”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:4‬ ‭NIRV‬‬

Lord, let your glory shine to those who are around me. Teach me how to Live Jesus and Give Jesus! I desire to be one with you. Cause those around me to see you so they can grow!

  14. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

David avows his Divine inspiration, that the Spirit of God spake by him. He, and other holy men, spake and wrote as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. It is He that does all things in us, anything we do or say, must be in the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.

  15. God wanted to make sure that David knew that those appointed to be leaders were righteous in God’s eyes. God is like yes they have won many battles but God wants to know if their hearts are righteous is the most important thing for God. That’s why I love that our Pastor has a yearly covenant for all leadership. There should always be a commitment of sort with God, you can just do whatever, whenever, you want.

John. 14. [15] If ye love me, keep my commandments. [21] He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

Is that completely clear!!! God doesn’t run around He goes straight to the point, clear as crystal.

  16. The God of Israel spoke. The Rock of Israel said to me: ‘The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God, is like the light of morning at sunrise, like a morning without clouds, like the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain.’
    2 Samuel 23:3‭-‬4 NLT

Let all that we do be done in the fear of God. Just like Pastor instructed yesterday, Jesus must be our Lord and Savior. He must have liberty to reign in our lives.

  17. 2Samuel 23
    said,
    “Whoever governs fairly and well,
    who rules in the Fear-of-God,
Is like first light at daybreak
without a cloud in the sky,
    Like green grass carpeting earth,
    glistening under fresh rain.”
And this is just how my regime has been,
for God guaranteed his covenant with me,
    Spelled it out plainly
    and kept every promised word—

Rules in the fear of God …
    Listen closely to His Word
Be slow to speak and slow to anger
Seek His will and not self will
Good leadership has to live according to I Corinthians 13
He who rules in the fear of God refreshes and refines those they are leading….David was not perfect but ruled with the fear of God

  18. 23:1,2.
now there be the last words of David, David the son of Jessie said, and the man who was raised up on high
The anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Isrrael said.2 The Spirit of the lord spake by me and his word was in my tongue.
    ———-
Man looks at what’s in front of him, man looks at the outside, but God looks at the heart.
After all the mistakes, all the victories, losses and
gains, what matters is on how we are going to finish the race and Gods perspective.
Because God looks at the heart, if we sin, we know we must repent and turn from that sin and don’t do it again.keep looking up,.
    Again, what is my desire?
    What motivates me?
    What is my passion?
    What is the goal?
👉🏼 To obey God, to do what pleases him
To be in communion with him
to see his word come to pass in my life.( my love ones…)
And to bring souls to him.
At the end God was pleased with the king. And talks about the good and not the bad.
    God is merciful. Hallelujah 😀.

  19. If you love me keep my commandments. God keeps his word to us so why wouldn’t we keep our word to him. David was a mighty warrior and leader for God even though he made alot of mistakes. He picked himself up and got back on the right path. LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS.

  20. 2 Samuel 23:9-12
    9) And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:
    10) He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the LORD wrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.
    11) And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled before the Philistines.
    12) But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

    WOW!!
There are going to be times in our life when we feel like everyone has left us and we are fighting the enemy alone, BUT just remember, you are never alone. God is with you! So no matter how weary you may feel, cleave (hold on) to the Sword, the Word of God, and Stand Your Ground, and the LORD will work a GREAT VICTORY through you.

  21. 5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

David shows us how our imperfection cannot fulfill the covenant, but this covenant will be achieved through the atonement of Jesus.

  22. 2“The Spirit of the LORD speaks through me;
his words are upon my tongue.

When giving a testimony, a bible class or prayer, God will use you and speak through you. He’ll give the words to say. Don’t worry about “I don’t know what to say”, God will speak for you.

  23. The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. 2 Samuel 23:2

If we are in tune with God, praising Him, praying to Him etc… He will speak to us. We must listen and follow His advice. I am at my present job as God told me to come here when I was praying to Him. I was hired immediately! With God all things ARE POSSIBLE. I thank you Lord Jesus for this day.

  24. 2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

We should allow this to happen more, we should always be willing to allow the lord and the Holy Spirit speak through us more It’s very important because it is through the lord speaking through us that we are given true wisdom from god for our lives.

  25. 2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

2020 has been a very unpredictable and mind-boggling year, to say the least! But still…. We should be evermore allowing God’s reflection to show through us!

    #liveJesus #giveJesus

  26. 3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

America desperately needs a ruler, a president, who will rule in the fear of God. Then this nation would rise and be the nation God intends it to be. Then we would see revival and a great harvest here and around this world. Looking for that godly man…

  27. 3 The God of Israel spoke. The Rock of Israel said to me: “The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God, 4 is like the light of morning at sunrise, like a morning without clouds, like the gleaming of the sun on new grass after rain.”
    2 Samuel 23:3-4 NLT

O God your my foundation, my strength, my light in the darkness. I pray that you shine your light on each of us, use us to show your light to those that are lost to those in the wrong path. Let us show them the faith and the hope the Lord gives us, let us show them that even in our darkest points there is always light and victory with the Lord in the end no matter how hard it is. Let the Lord live in your life, for nothing fails with him, and there’s joy and light with him.

  28. When it came to the end David looked back over his life over his time as king as a leader.
He realized that the most important thing is the need of God in his life. As a man a king a leader.
We must daily seek God to lead us to lead us.
If we will follow he will lead us to the water the well of living water

  29. ““The Spirit of the LORD spoke by me, And His word was on my tongue.’”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:2 AMP

Sometimes it’s just best to let go and let god. A lot of the times we stand in the way of our miracle because we won’t allow god to take control but if we just realize that we should allow god to move on our behalf and in the midst that everything will be alright. It’s okay to allow god to be in the drivers seat and lead the way.

  30. 15 And David longed, and said, Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!
16 And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the Lord.

When we desire to serve Jesus so intensely that when the man of God mentions something, we risk ourselves to give it to him, Jesus takes note. While this little piece seems to be about David, it’s all about Jesus.

  31. 23 He was more honourable than the thirty, but he attained not to the first three. And David set him over his guard.

When war breaks out we will want the strongest most valiant warriors by our side. David recognizes the 37 skilled men have fought by his side for the kingdom. In spiritual battles we may not feel others pulling for us in intercession, but God will line up the right warrior for the fight. Friendly fire is a real thing and we need to have confidence in the people we entire battle with. Will they actually have your 6? Some folks may seem strong in Christ but fold could easily fold like a deck of cards. David trusts these mighty men because they have proved themselves valiant. They have looked opposition in the eye and slew the enemy without hesitation. David is known for his numerous fatalities recorded in battle. A king doesn’t just defend the kingdom but follows Gods instruction.

Kings were not a position God had desired but the people requested. The expectation is that the person to rule would lead his people to Him. Earlier in this chapter he recognizes that not all his household upheld Gods law. Even though David made mistakes, still God made an everlasting covenant.

  32. 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

The sun makes one complete turn every 24 hours. It turns toward the east. As the Earth rotates toward the east, it looks like the sun is moving west.

One of the greatest attributes of the sin is that it rotates eastward but looks like it’s rotating westward. You see when the Son of man arises in our lives in our situation it sometimes looks like it’s going to turn out one way but in the end He works it out for our good.

Know this, everything is for a season and one day we will live in eternity with Him if we just trust Him.

  33. 12 But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the Lord wrought a great victory.

The Lord can have great victories in our life if we would let him. Stop fighting with God and start following what he wants. God will never lead you astray. He will make sure you stay on the right path. Our faith must stay high and our trust in God unwavering.

  34. but Shammah held his ground in the middle of the field and beat back the Philistines. So the Lord brought about a great victory.
    2 Samuel 23:12 NLT
    https://bible.com/bible/116/2sa.23.12.NLT

We read about David’s great and mighty men. They did great acts and displayed they might in battle and proved themselves valiant men. Yes it was their physical activity and strength, yes it was their doings but at the end of it all it was recognized where it all comes from. And the Lord brought a great victory. We must know that it is the Lord that enables us to do the tasks and perform what is being called for. He anoints us and gives us the life to fulfill. So all that we do it is becuase of the Lord. To Him be all the glory.

  35. Just hang on

10 He arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clave unto the sword: and the Lordwrought a great victory that day; and the people returned after him only to spoil.

I’ve held a hammer in this way before. A long day of carpentry and I had to peel my hand off the hammer at the end of the day. My hand was worn out at lunch time but I had a job to finish. So we kept swinging and I kept hanging on. This is what we have to do sometimes. Things may not look like we want them to but we just have to hang on, just keep swinging.

  36. “The God of Israel spoke. The Rock of Israel said to me: ‘The one who rules righteously, who rules in the fear of God,”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

To be victorious is to love Jesus. We must leave our old habits behind and let Jesus enter our life to be Lord overall. Let’s keep praising the Lord at all times because He is worthy of all the Glory. Our countenance will be filled with unspeakable joy and victories. So don’t lose hope but keep praising God and living Jesus.

  37. “Truly is not my house so [blessed] with God? For He has made an everlasting covenant with me, Ordered in all things, and secured. For will He not cause to grow and prosper All my salvation and my every wish? Will He not make it grow and prosper?”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:5‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I can’t help but think, isn’t POFW blessed? In this scripture I see the favor of God pouring out upon POFW and I am excited for what God has in store. I pray we remember the words that God has given our Bishop and Pastor for us- Things are not what they seem and HOPE!

  38. 2 Samuel 23:1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,

David in his last words, professes his faith in God’s promises to be beyond sense or experience.

Psalm 89:20 I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:

Acts 13:22 And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart , which shall fulfil all my will.

  39. 2 Samuel 23:6
But the godless are like thorns to be thrown away,   for they tear the hand that touches them.

Lord I pray for our nation that they will come you Lord. You are merciful, loving, and forgiving. Thank you Jesus

  40. “And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred, and slew them, and had the name among three. Was he not most honourable of three? therefore he was their captain: howbeit he attained not unto the first three.”
    ‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭23:18-19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

These men went to battle but they feared God first.
But look how mighty they were and I believe it was because they had the Lord on their sides. We too fill with the Holy Ghost can face things like this. We could face many warriors and adversaries with just one spear and not worry about a thing. When prayed up and filled with the Holy Ghost don’t be surprised when you’re on the front lines smacking the devil in the mouth

  41. These mighty men were not always this way. Before they had a great leader in ho showed them the way they were just sad men. I know the men themselves had a hand in their outcome, but so did their leader. Behind great people often stands great leadership.

  42. 2 The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

I always wonder, how as this evidence in the Old Testament of someone getting the Holy Ghost. “The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” And it could have been recorded this way because there was no other way to explain it then. The next verse then says, “. . . The Spirit of the Lord spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.” Insinuating that because they witnessed the other tongues that it goes to prove how close he was to God.?.?
