Psalm 109

Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.

When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

11 Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

12 Let there be none to extend mercy unto him: neither let there be any to favour his fatherless children.

13 Let his posterity be cut off; and in the generation following let their name be blotted out.

14 Let the iniquity of his fathers be remembered with the Lord; and let not the sin of his mother be blotted out.

15 Let them be before the Lordcontinually, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.

16 Because that he remembered not to shew mercy, but persecuted the poor and needy man, that he might even slay the broken in heart.

17 As he loved cursing, so let it come unto him: as he delighted not in blessing, so let it be far from him.

18 As he clothed himself with cursing like as with his garment, so let it come into his bowels like water, and like oil into his bones.

19 Let it be unto him as the garment which covereth him, and for a girdle wherewith he is girded continually.

20 Let this be the reward of mine adversaries from the Lord, and of them that speak evil against my soul.

21 But do thou for me, O God the Lord, for thy name’s sake: because thy mercy is good, deliver thou me.

22 For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.

23 I am gone like the shadow when it declineth: I am tossed up and down as the locust.

24 My knees are weak through fasting; and my flesh faileth of fatness.

25 I became also a reproach unto them: when they looked upon me they shaked their heads.

26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:

27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.

28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Of all the Psalms of imprecation, this one is unrivaled for first place. No other call down the judgment of God with such distilled vitriol or with such comprehensive detail. The reader cannot fail to be intrigued And fascinated by the sheer ingenuity of the psalmist in the variety of punishment he invokes on his foes!

I won’t lie to you when I began to read this I thought to myself “this is strong, this is too much to wish on someone else”. I was always taught not to wish any harm upon anyone no matter what; because divine justice always get them at the end. There is a Japanese proverb by Sun Tzu that says: If you wait by the river long enough, the bodies of your enemies will float by. I couldn’t think that as a Christian you would curse your enemy. Now don’t get me wrong if you come into my home with ill intentions I will protect my family and love ones with my full artillery; but for lies and gossip? No, I believe at the end the truth sounds louder than a lie. Why bother? Because other people believed the gossip, then they didn’t know me very well to begin with so I don’t need them. I never understood gossip. If your life so boring that you enjoy talking about others? I’m the kind that if you come to me with gossip about someone and that person is within reach I will grab your hand and put you in front of them and ask you to repeat it. If they’re not close by I will stop you, call it as it is gossip, and ask you to stop. That’s why I never know what the grapevine is saying and don’t even care.
On the other hand, I have prayed verse 7. Please Lord stop them from doing what they’re doing and make it so super natural that they know it was you God!!! Don’t know if my prayer was ever answered but one thing I know, no one ever comes gossip to me anymore. Thank you Jesus!

  3. Psalm 109

    1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

3 They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.

5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

8 Let his days be few; and let another take his office.

9 Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow.

10 Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.

  4. Ps. 109: 30 -31 [ amp] I will give great praise and thanks to the Lord, with my mouth yes, and I will praise Him among the multitude.
[31] For He will stand at the right hand of the poor and needy to save him from those who condemn his life.
Ps. 68 :1 [ amp] God is [ already] beginning to arise, and His enemies to scatter ; let them also who hate Him flee before Him!
Through it all bless the Lord and praise him at all times.
Love them and share your testimony with them.
Love and prayer is the only way !
Cry out to Jesus for this world.

  5. Verse 30 AMP “I will give great praise and thanks to the Lord with my mouth; And in the midst of many I will praise Him.” Same verse NLT “But I will give repeated thanks to the Lord, praising him to everyone.” Not everyone will understand why we are praising amongst the chaos that is currently in our world; but, no one knows like I know what my God has done for me! Let’s keep praising him POFW to everyone this Western Day!

  6. “Help me, O Lord my God! Save me because of your unfailing love. Let them see that this is your doing, that you yourself have done it, Lord. Then let them curse me if they like, but you will bless me! When they attack me, they will be disgraced! But I, your servant, will go right on rejoicing! May my accusers be clothed with disgrace; may their humiliation cover them like a cloak. But I will give repeated thanks to the Lord, praising him to everyone. For he stands beside the needy, ready to save them from those who condemn them.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭109:26-31‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes is best to leave it up to God!

  7. 30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

The psalmist through this chapter states the obvious of his enemies. We will be talked about and deceived by those that hate us and they will try to harm us in every decisive way possible and we will be caught up in the misleading of the truth. We have to be bold and trust Gid that we may not lose our trust in Him and we can go through all the chaos. I find that since the very day that God saved me and filled me with his spirit the enemy has been after me. As I have cried unto the Lord and He has heard me from out of his holy hill. He will protect me as long as I trust in him. But through it all if I will praise him, my enemy will not defeat me. It’s time to take a stand and become the mighty apostolic church of the end time.

  8. 26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.

All to Your glory Lord. In every season I want the world to see Your hand working in my life. Let everyone see Your goodness through my life.

  9. 26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.
28 Let them curse, but bless thou: when they arise, let them be ashamed; but let thy servant rejoice.

If they talked about Jesus, they’re going to talk about me. If they condemned the most perfect, the kindest, sweetest purish man on the entire Earth of ever existence then I should expect no less from others. While it’s still baffles me that people can be so angry to accuse an innocent man a horrible things, it’s not something that we should be surprised by. The one thing we can for sure rely on is that the Lord will take care of the situation, he will defend us

  10. 2For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Not everybody is for you. Some people will pretend to be your friend and plot against you behind your back. We must be watchful of who we align ourselves with. We must stand firm on our stance of holiness. We cannot allow anyone to get in between us and what God wants to do in our life.

  11. This is strong stuff! I have been guilty at times being so frustrated with someone that I speak unkindly of them. I ask God to forgive me. The carnality came out for a bit. Keeping your eyes on the prize is the best way to stay positive. Associate with God pleases is good way to stay saved. We have alot of positive options plaed before us. Thank you Jesus!!

  12. 30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

Praise will get you through but you gotta praise GOD !!! If you do praise , HE will see you through!!!

  13. “I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭109:30‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Seems here despite in what’s coming against David, he hasn’t forgotten that no matter what he is going through he must give GOD praise. He praises GOD in the beginning, and ends with praise afterwards. Your praise will always bring you Victory.
It changes your perspective over any situation knowing that the LORD will always give you the strength, peace, and boldness to overcome the enemy!!!
    Hallelujah 🙌

‘I feel like praising, praising Him!’x2
‘Praise HIM in the morning, praise HIM all night long..’
‘Cause I feel like praising, praising Him.’
‘You ought to praise the LORD while you have a chance.’x2

You see… your praise changes the atmosphere 🙌

“Do not rejoice over me [amid my tragedies], O my enemy! Though I fall, I will rise; Though I sit in the darkness [of distress], the LORD is a light for me.”
    ‭‭Micah‬ ‭7:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

  14. 26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

Doesn’t matter how bad the situation maybe come remember to always let God’s light shine through you. And praise Him at all times.

  15. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus

David wasn’t kidding around here. He goes off on the enemies of the Lord. “Let satan stand at his right hand…” David was a man of God and trusted the Lord to defend him from the wicked attacks of the enemy. Thank You Jesus for a great example of a man of God showing us the way to defeat the enemy.

  16. 6 Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand.
7 When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin.

It is rare to see someone want an adversary to be cursed and cut off from God and his salvation, but it has happened in the most dire of situations.
1 Cor 5:5 speaks of people who are unrepented of sin and the man of God delivers them into satan’s hand so the soul can be saved. This is what I have heard – a person turned over so they can be saved. I believe that- if needed, turning a person over to God to do whatever it takes to them so that they can be saved is better than them being lost. God knows the heart of mankind and knows how to save, so this becomes an act of love for the soul itself.

  17. 109:29 let my adversaries be clothes with shame
And let them cover themselves with their own confusion as with a mantle.
    ——
Yes lord, as I live my Christian life according to your will, you lord, you take care of “ that” people.
I forgive them, but I need to move on…
    In Jesus name. Hello

  18. 2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

The mouth of the wicked will always have something to say. But will our praise be louder? Will it be bolder? Will we reach further?

The mouth of the deceitful will not have the last word, what side will you be on?

  19. Thank you Jesus Christ for today, open his Gates with Thanksgiving. Thy kingdom come thy will be done . Sometimes when the enemy can’t control you , he will unfortunately use people to come against you . Obviously is a spirit problem not a human problem. False accusations, hatred , malice test the spirits and see if they are of God . Those stumbling blocks might be just people …. Pray for them even if it’s unfair

O God, whom I praise, don’t stand silent and aloof while the wicked slander me and tell lies about me. They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason. I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them! They repay evil for good, and hatred for my love. They say, “Get an evil person to turn against him. Send an accuser to bring him to trial.
    Psalms 109:1‭-‬6

  20. “O God, whom I praise, don’t stand silent and aloof while the wicked slander me and tell lies about me. They surround me with hateful words and fight against me for no reason. I love them, but they try to destroy me with accusations even as I am praying for them! They repay evil for good, and hatred for my love.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭109:1-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬
David’s enemies laughed at him for his devotion, but they could not laugh him out of it.

  21. “But You, O GOD, the Lord, show kindness to me, for Your name’s sake; Because Your lovingkindness (faithfulness, compassion) is good, O rescue me;”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭109:21‬ ‭AMP‬‬

What can compare to the Lord’s kindness, faithfulness and compassion? The Word says that His Compassion is made new every morning. We serve a faithful and loving God! No one can compare to Him. We could search all over and still wouldn’t find anyone to come close.

  22. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE FRUIT OF RELATIONSHIP

    1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

This is in my estimation the most aggressive Psalm or Prayer in the BIBLE. But how could David ask or pray this prayer?

This Prayer is the result of relationship with JESUS. It is a conversation between two close friends or companions.

David identifies and reminds the LORD of his praise habit, activity and action.

    Praise – 8416. thillah, teh-hil-law´; laudation; specifically (concretely) a hymn:—praise.

Laudation – the act of praising

David understands and reminds GOD of his commitment to those that Praise

Psalm 22:3 But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel.

The word inhabitest means to enthrone or set above. Much like that of a judge. By this we understand how David could make these powerful and clear petitions of GOD against his accusers and adversaries.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS

  23. Psalm 109
30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

31 For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.

From stress and frustration to Faith in the last 2 verses. Faith winds.

  24. Psalms 109
4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

5 And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love.

    Back to the Altar
Power and authority is given to us through the power of the Holy Ghost. David was being hated and hunted by the adversary. Satan uses anything and anyone to try to destroy our walk with God. We must stay at the altar. Prayer is the key to victory. Slanderous remarks, lies and false accusations will come but where two or three are gathered in His name.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much ! Leave the rest in God’s hands.
I find the fellowship I need in prayer especially during this quarantined times how sweet it is to be able to have the King of Glory as an audience of One. He becomes my prayer partner and I love the times of refreshing in His presence. Yes it is always back to the Altar but it should be with great joy and anticipation of times to be able to commune with Him . He is Omni present how wonderful . A God who delights in being available. Thank You Jesus.

  25. How many of us have prayed prayers like one? We have been hurt, shamed, ridiculed, sometimes unjustly, and we take this type attitude to God. Yet God withholds vengeance at the time we are demanding it from Him. He is a just God and He sees every little detail. Sometimes things we don’t see at the time, hold back the judgement of God that we are seeking for others. What if the table was turned and others are praying this way against us? Then we are grateful for the mercies of God that stayed His judgement from us.

We must recognize that God does all things well. If He stays His hand of judgement, He has good reason. He sees things we don’t. When He says something it cannot be changed. When He does something it cannot be changed.

We must get over ourselves and give thanks in spite of the test or trial. We must learn to let God be God!

  26. On Psalm 109 some heavy words were spoken. David was just a man and obviously was very tore up how people were treating him. David loved the Lord but momentarily lost it but prayed to our LORD and “I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth” Psalm 109:30. David did what was right by praising God even in his anguish. No matter what happens in our life or around us we must always keep God first. Jesus is ALWAYS around for us. We must remember when we sin, our Lord Jesus knows all!

  27. Psalms 109:2-4
    2) For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.
    3) They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause.
    4) For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself to prayer.

“But I Give Myself To Prayer”
When someone is speaking falsely against you and telling lies, or trying to harm you without a cause, the best thing you can do is Take It To The Lord In PRAYER. “Give Yourself To Prayer.” because PRAYER Changes Things!!

  28. 26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:

Whenever we encounter a issue or a struggle instead of turning to the world we should always turn to the one that can solve any problem and can handle anything, and that person is Jesus and we should always allow him to work in our lives on our behalf.

  29. “For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭109:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Then I said, “[Surely] these are only the poor (uneducated); They are [sinfully] foolish and have no [spiritual] understanding, For they do not know the way of the LORD Or the ordinance of their God [and the requirements of His just and righteous law].”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭5:4‬ ‭AMP‬‬

In Jeremiah 10:4, Jeremiah describes the poor as those who lack spiritual understanding and are sinfully foolish. This is why we should never block or avoid telling someone about Christ. If we have the opportunity to say an encouraging word or give them an invitation we need to take it, no matter how we feel that day or our what our attitude towards them is.

I thank God for His Word being a two edged sword that keeps me in check. I pray we follow God’s direction and heed His Word

  30. Psalms 109:30
But I will give repeated thanks to the lord, praising him to everyone.

I will always praise and thank Jesus for everything. I am blessed . Thank you Jesus

  31. 30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

David was the apple of God’s eye. David had problems and the saved will have problems. The bottom line is that we are required to praise the Lord.

  32.  4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

Even when our enemies may laugh at us, we should not stop praising our Lord. The enemy can’t take our praise away. Praise is our secret weapon.

  33. 6They say,a “Get an evil person to turn against him.
Send an accuser to bring him to trial.

So easy to do these days, get some to bring accusations against you. With all the political correctness going on, someone will be offended and accuse you of wrong doing. But don’t be pressured and not speak of God. With any opportunity speak to others about God.

  34. In return for my love they are my accusers, But I give myself to prayer. Thus they have rewarded me evil for good, And hatred for my love.
    Psalms 109:4‭-‬5 NKJV
    https://bible.com/bible/114/psa.109.4-5.NKJV

The revenge is of the Lord. He can do a way better job at your adversaries. The psalmist took the approach that he practiced. “I give myself to prayer.” He prayed to the One who can and will do something about his situation. What response shall we take then? Pray. Always. And firstly, pray. Tell the Lord what those that are your enemies have been doing to you. He will see to it to take care of it.

  35. “I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude. For he shall stand at the right hand of the poor, to save him from those that condemn his soul.”
    Psalms 109:30-31 KJV

I will keep my hope in You continually. I will praise you Lord more and more. You save me from the sin that condemn us. You make way for us to escape and bring us to your righteousness path. There’s no one that can do what you do Lord!Your are my Savior!

    • Let not focus on our enemies, but let the Lord take of them. Let focus on the Relationship With you and the Lord and put our faith in Him.

  36. 26 Help me, O Lord my God: O save me according to thy mercy:
27 That they may know that this is thy hand; that thou, Lord, hast done it.

God’s mercy is unmeasurable and infinite. When we are in need or being attacked, we cry out to the Lord. He will rescue us from the hands of the enemy. It will be known to all man that God alone is the ONLY one who can deliver us! That through His hand we can obtain blessings or destruction. Let us choose wisely for the love of our following generations to come.

  37. 4 For my love they are my adversaries: but I give myself unto prayer.

A place of prayer is the best place to be when in trouble and when your enemies are after you. Your place of prayer is not a hiding place but a place of war. Our place of prayer is where we receive orders from the commander and chief; JESUS!

  38. 29 Let mine adversaries be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own confusion, as with a mantle.

The Psalmist has done all he can do. He’s prayed, sought God and fasted. Sometimes our best efforts are not enough. We need the kind of power Jesus brings. The Psalmist didn’t try end take matters into his own hands. Instead, he is crying out to God to bring him out of the conflict posed by the wicked who inflict him.

When we are in the middle of conflict God will rescue us.

God is fully aware of the situation the Psalmist is going through just like he knows ours. Those who are manipulators and liars have their place in hell. We need to know where we stand because two cannot walk together unless they agree on where they are going. God masks our attackers with confusion to where they don’t know where they are going. They become confused and masked by the things of the world that they don’t recognize who is for them and against them. They will be made ashamed and the Psalmist notes that they cover themselves with confusion. Confusion is not of God, he wants us all in or all out, not one foot in and one foot out. We need Jesus to make a way for us when their seems no wag out. He’s a way maker!

  39. 1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;

When God speaks everything changes…. Darkness was on the face of the deep and the spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and God said let there be light and there was light. All we need is for God to speak. He is always speaking so our part is to tune in. Our answer is always right in front of us. The word is forever settled and it is living and breathing right now. Speak Lord. Speak to this world around us. Speak to every heart. Speak to our nation and our leaders, speak to me Lord.

  40. 1 Hold not thy peace, O God of my praise;
2 For the mouth of the wicked and the mouth of the deceitful are opened against me: they have spoken against me with a lying tongue.

Asking God to not hold his peace but to rather speak his peace. Give us his opinion and speak his mind. The verse then goes to point out how the wicked and the liars have already given their peace. . . most of what was not true, but lies. So, at this point it wouldn’t hurt.

  41. 30 I will greatly praise the Lord with my mouth; yea, I will praise him among the multitude.

His Praise shall ever be in my mouth! No matter where. No matter whos around! I Glorify You, my King!!!!

  42. “Oh, GOD, my Lord, step in; work a miracle for me—you can do it! Get me out of here—your love is so great!— I’m at the end of my rope, my life in ruins. I’m fading away to nothing, passing away, my youth gone, old before my time. I’m weak from hunger and can hardly stand up, my body a rack of skin and bones. I’m a joke in poor taste to those who see me; they take one look and shake their heads.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭109:21-25‬ ‭MSG‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/97/psa.109.21-25.msg

The Lord is my Shepard, he goes before me through mountains and valleys. He will work all things out in your favor. I believe that for me and I believe that for you just as David believed for himself as well. We have testimony after testimony and example after example on how to respond to the word of God, to the voice of God and so on.. we are the only ones holding ourselves back.

  43. “The Lord says to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand, until I make your enemies your footstool.””(Psalm‬ ‭110:1‬ ‭ESV‬‬)

Every word that the Lord has spoken has already been fulfill. We must trust in what he has said and stand firm on his promises.(Exodus‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬) “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.
