Proverbs 13

A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

The ransom of a man’s life are his riches: but the poor heareth not rebuke.

The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

17 A wicked messenger falleth into mischief: but a faithful ambassador is health.

18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.

22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 Much food is in the tillage of the poor: but there is that is destroyed for want of judgment.

24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

  1. 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

There is a time of judgement and recompense for all of mankind. The Lord wants good things for His children. Often people question why the righteous struggle in this world, however God is not on mans’ timetable, the righteous poor will be rewarded with heavenly treasures.

  2. 12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

There are so many nuggets of Truth throughout this book but personally, this chapter is one of my favorites. It’s filled with so much direction on wisdom and being guided properly and this particular verse got me through a very difficult time. When my wife and I were courting, there is a period of time when she felt like she needed to stop talking to me and I was in the complete dark about it. I was dealing with some personal issues as well at the time and this scripture is what was given to me to wait until the storm passed. We may not always get what we want or need in life but God will always provide what he knows is best for us whenever we surrender our will to him.

  3. A righteous man hateth lying, but a wicked man is loathsome.Disgusting, distasteing, foul, revolting and yucky is how the Bible dictionary defines loathsome! Jesus would choose us to be absolutely NONE of those four descriptive words! We need to Live Jesus and Give Jesus!!!!!

  4. Proverbs 13

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

1Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Psalm 34:6 This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.

Many of the poor who have the Gospel have a joy that a number of rich people with out Jesus have nothing for they are not satisfied.

    • Little is much when God is in it . Yes so true . Someone recently told me that when Christmas came around and the kids had no need of anything the true meaning was lost . They recalled the poor Christmas experience without riches a higher treasure than the one with plenty. This world and its riches will pass away but the true richness of our life in Jesus is forever .

  5. Proverbs 13:12
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Where does hope truly lie? Is it a dream? Is it an aspiration? Is it something or someone you are waiting for ? Hope . We all have had a d probably at this moment have a hope. Can we truly say we trust in God if my hope never gets answered . Would I live my entire life sick because my hope has been deferred? Like everyone else we all live with a measure of expectations or hopes dreams . The word says they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. Waiting is the most difficult thing at times yet if I place my Hope in Jesus I truly must trust that He knows exactly what I need . If my desire stays with Him then I will have Life . Sounds good . Right ?
So how do we wait and not allow our deferred Hope to make us sick. Naturally not easy. Even the most spiritual people I’ve known have lost Out with God because they did not see their Hope fulfilled. What if we could see a fulfilled hope before it happens and we see what only God can see ? Would we be so thankful that God had deferred it? I must truly wait upon God though at times it does make my heart sick and tears do run down my face this is when I must say my Hope is in You God . I must stay focused on Him.
I will continue to hope but I must allow my Hope to be in complete trust of who is actually HOPE . Lord today I pray for those who may have lost their HOPE. Help each to know that You are the Hope and the if we truly trust in You though we don’t get the answers we are looking for You Are Still Hope .. You are the Tree of Life

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord, be strong and let your heart take courage, wait for the Lord” (Psalm 27:13–14).

    • O HOLY NIGHT

A thrill of HOPE the weary world rejoices !

O holy night, the stars are brightly shining,
      It is the night of the dear Saviour’s birth;
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
‘Till he appeared and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
      For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn;

      Chorus
Fall on your knees, Oh hear the angel voices!
O night divine! O night when Christ was born.
O night, O holy night, O night divine

  6. 12Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

Hope deferred as the scripture states makes the heart sick.

The word deferred simply means put off (an action or event) to a later time; postpone.

The thing that makes most sense to the Christian in this day and time is not deferring our hope in Jesus, but some may think as the fool thinks that they don’t need Jesus and there hope is in their own ability. We find many times that we run into adversity and we had circumstances that are completely out of our control. We have to find the comfort in knowing that if we trust Jesus from the very beginning, as Solomon stated that when the desire comes it is the tree of life. Hope in Jesus is not a wasted effort but a dividend on an eternal reward that we have knowing when we are born again and filled with the Holy Ghost.

We as the church of the living God have to be focused not on the end result of our hope but the current condition of our spirit and soul during the current situation that we are facing to see Jesus work in us to reach others. Let’s live Jesus to be ready to give Jesus in a time filled with chaos and turmoil. When our hope shines then our Jesus shines.

  7. Proverbs 13

1 A wise son heareth his father’s instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke.

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

4 The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

  8. 13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard.

Know His Word and follow His commandments. If we do these things, we will be rewarded with life and favor! If you ever feel like your way is hard, check yourself and see how you stand to His Word.

  9. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

A righteous man hates any kind of dishonesty, but a wicked man “ acts shamefully and disgracefully”

It is said of Abraham Lincoln that he would accept no case in which the client did not have justice on his side. one time a man came to employ him. Lincoln stared at the ceiling, yet listened intently as the facts were given. Abruptly he swung around in his chair.
“ you have a pretty good case in technical law,” he said,” but a pretty bad one in equity and justice. You will have to get someone else to win this case for you that I could not do it that all the time and while pleading before the jewelry I’ll be taking, Lincoln, you are a liar! I might forget myself and say it out loud,“
Lying and all forms of guilt grieve the heart of God. No Christian should lie or deceive, regardless of the consequences to himself. If he dies, he will never advance in the things of God.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  10. “He who despises the word will be destroyed, But he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. The law of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn one away from the snares of death.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Learn Gods word. Live by the commandments of His word. By doing so it could spare your life.

  11. If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.
    Proverbs 13:18 NLT

    https://bible.com/bible/116/pro.13.18.NLT

Being able to review your output and take the constructive criticism takes a level of humility and willingness to be better, improve and ach I’ve excellence that many people struggle with. Coming to God with a humble, moldable heart will bless you.

  12. Prov. 13: 3 [ amp] He who guards his mouth keep his life , But he who opens wide his lips come to ruin.
Prov. 21:23 [ amp] He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from troubles.
1 Peter 3: 10 [ amp] For let him who wants to enjoy life and see good days [ good – whether apparent or not] keep his tongue free from evil and his lips from guile ( treachery, deceit).
Sometimes we need to shut our mouths and be quiet. Let the Lord work it out.
For it’s better suffer unjustly ] for doing the right .
By doing God’s will , than to suffer justly] for wrong doing .
Lord set a Guard around my mouth!
    In Jesus name.

  13. 9 The life of the godly is full of light and joy, but the light of the wicked will be snuffed out. NLT

    JOY TO THE WORLD!
A life full of JESUS is a life full of light and joy.

    John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life. KJV

  14. 24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

Our children should not be idols!!! They deserve our love and that love is also to discipline them, teach them and be the best example we can be. GOD IS GOOD!!!

  15. 4Lazy people want much but get little,
but those who work hard will prosper.

Those dependent on others always want more. Never satisfied with what they have. Those who have worked for years have earned what they have. They know the value of hard work, and appreciate what they have. The more you serve God the more you will prosper.

  16. 7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

In today’s age the world is full of these kind of people; the kind of people that gets lost on the rat race to being rich. Works mg to bow to the god of money and catch up to the joneses. Living empty shallow lives without a purpose. I prefer to live paycheck to paycheck with God by my side than to be full of riches and has nothing. Jesus is all I need. Don’t take me wrong there is nothing wrong with working hard for what you want but don’t get so caught up on the wants that you forget who you need!!!!! WE ALL NEED JESUS!!! OUR SAVIOR!!! The formula is easy work hard, pay your tithes, be generous in offering, work for THE KINGDOM, in ALL ACKNOWLEDGE GOD, AND HE WILL GIVE YOU THE DESIRES OF YOUR HEART.

  17. Verse 13 CEV “If you reject God’s teaching, you will pay the price; if you obey his commands, you will be rewarded.” John 14:15 AMP “If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments. Luke 11:28 MSG “Jesus commented, “Even more blessed are those who hear God’s Word and guard it with their lives!”

  18. 18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

We are God’s children and as his child we must hear his instructions, commands and correction. No matter how old we get, a child always needs to heed and obey the godly direction from their parents. So we must hear the word of the Lord and apply it to our lives even when it’s a rebuke and stay on his paths of righteousness.

Pro 13:10  Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom

    This verse is powerful.

Why all the fighting….it only comes by pride
Why all the arguments…they only come by pride
    Why all the war…pride
    Why all the Family feud…pride
Why do brothers and sisters fight…pride

All contentions can be summarized into one word…PRIDE

Have a very humble Christmas Y’all

  20. 13:6 ERV GOODNESS PROTECT Honest PEOPLE
BUT EVIL DESTROYS THOSE WHO LOVE TO SIN.
13:16 wise people Always thinks before
They do anything, but fools show how stupid they are
    By what they do.

I am so delighted with reading the book of proverbs.
    God bless everyone 😀.
🙏🙏🙏🙏. For this is Gods will.
That I may walk in his wisdom.

  21. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Time and time again we hear about the company we keep. This is important because we need to see wise people and educated people to surround ourselves with. Wise people will pull us and drive us to become greater.

Some people struggle to be faithful to participate in this Bible reading daily, here are some of my 10 obersvatios as to why:

Some have participated from a “requirement” approach and view it as a daily “have to” instead of a daily “get to”.

Some have participated from a “compliance” approach and grow weary of the rules and requirements.

    Some are LAZY.

Some struggle to understand what they read.

Some are embarrassed to share their thoughts.

All of the above never see the value of hearing and fearing the WORD of GOD.

  23. 3 Self-control means controlling the tongue! A quick retort can ruin everything.

How many times have we gotten ourselves into situations that could have been avoided if we had practiced self control?

Self Control is also described as part of the fruit of the Spirit –
Galatians 5: 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

TLB – 22 But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control; and here there is no conflict with Jewish laws.

Temperance is defined as moderation or voluntary self-restraint. It is typically described in terms of what an individual voluntarily refrains from doing.

If we find ourselves having a challenge controlling our tongue, being sarcastic, being rude, being negative, being obnoxious, then we might need to check our fruit. It may be rotten on the vine, lifeless, death from no water (spirit) or food (word).

  24. Proverbs 13:13 (KJV), “Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.”
Proverbs 13:13 (CEV), “If you reject God’s teaching, you will pay the price: if you obey his commands, you will be rewarded.”

For those who despise (have a strong dislike for or loathe) and reject God’s Word, they will pay the price and be destroyed in the end.
    BUT
For those who fear and obey God’s Word, they will be rewarded.
For those who fear and obey God’s Word, He rewards us now, and He will reward us in the end.

LORD, may I always fear and obey Your Word!

  25. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

9 The light of the righteous rejoiceth: but the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

16 Every prudent man dealeth with knowledge: but a fool layeth open his folly.

21 Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed.
25 The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul: but the belly of the wicked shall want.

“The righteous” . . . “A righteous man” . . . “The righteous” . . . So many examples of what to do, how to act, . . . What category do you far into. What do you strive to be. Do you follow the instruction given??

  26. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

It is always good to do the right thing always Pray for the right answer.

  27. A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.
3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

Ever pay attention to the life of those who seem to create a lot of drama?? Wonder what things might be like if they were to bite their tongue??

All too often we can be tempted to “blow up,” but with souls at stake, we cannot afford to “give our two cents “.

  28. “He who spares his rod hates his son, But he who loves him disciplines him promptly.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:24‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Correction comes to those who he loves. Correction isn’t because he hates us. It’s the opposite He does it because he loves us. So thankful for the corrections of the Lord.

  29. “He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

There is this saying you are who you hang around. We must always be careful of the company we keep. As Christians we must make sure that we continue to stay in his will not our will and surround ourselves with those who are in his will and not out of his will.

  30. Proverbs 13:7 There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.”

There are so many people with monetary riches, but do not know our Lord Jesus. Also, I know many people that have little money but love Jesus. We all can be rich in knowing and loving our Saviour Jesus Christ. We receive many gifts from Him and are much richer than those with a large bank account. I thank you Lord Jesus for this day and all the blessings you have bestowed upon me.

  31. Watch your mouth

2 A man shall eat good by the fruit of his mouth: but the soul of the transgressors shall eat violence.

3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

This is why God chose to use the tongue as evidence that you have the Holy Ghost. My tongue has gotten me in and out of slot of trouble. If we are all honest it is this way for all of us. Life and death are in the tongue the word says. This is the true test of submission to God is what you are speaking. You can go to church and pay your weekly dues to be patted in the back by the preacher but God knows what you are talking about in private. This Christmas we can mend or tear by our tongues, we can build or destroy, we can bring our families closer together or push them further apart. If we let the Holy Ghost guide our tongues we will show the love of Christ to our families and God will make a way.

  32. In this chapter it was talking about our lips and what we say. We always hear that saying that goes….think about what you are going to say before you say it. We must take this into consideration everyday! Our mouths have the ability to get us in trouble, hurt others, and tell lies. Sometimes when we say and think things we don’t really think it through and it ends up coming out bad. Speaking with your voice can sometimes not be the only problem, our tone and facial expressions can do the same. If we say aiming sassy that is an example of using tone. If we say something looks good and then make an ugly face that is an example to facial expressions. Just know that your words can always end up saving a life of losing one!

  33. “Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

People who love to fight have too much pride. Argue and fight to get their way. Agree and fight to prove someone wrong. Argue and fight for justice. It’s all from pride. Pride blinds us into thinking that our way is better, others and wrong, and our version of justice is the only justice. Pride causes bad choices and broken relationships. Pride drives us away from Jesus.

Wisdom on the other hand allows for others to share in decision making. Wisdom allows others to choose justice. Wisdom listens. Wisdom allows God to speak to you or others say what God needs to tell you.

  34. 20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

The people that you associate with and hold relationships with really influence who you become. You should he wise in how you choose your friends or whom.ypu allow to come into your inner circle.

  35. “If you ignore criticism, you will end in poverty and disgrace; if you accept correction, you will be honored.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬
    https://www.bible.com/116/pro.13.18.nlt

Let the walls of pride come down. Just see what the Lord has to say to you. I once thought of a time where I was facing all this adversity and all these troubles from a person and said to myself what if God is showing me how I act towards him and this his unique way of showing me. What can I do am I gonna ignore the whole fact that God could be teaching me a valuable lesson or am I going to receive the troublesome and move on.

  36. “Wealth obtained by fraud dwindles, But he who gathers gradually by [honest] labor will increase [his riches].”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭13:11‬ ‭AMP‬‬

Doing whatever it takes to get ahead will always lead to our downfall. No matter if it is by lying, cheating, etc it will always affect physically and spiritually. As we live and give Jesus, we should be willing to put in the work to serve or be a witness. I thank God He is our reward! I pray we choose Jesus over anything this world has to offer

  37. 5 A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.
6 Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

As children of God we must detest lying. We are living in a world that is continuously lying to one another, filled with confusion and blinded. Lying words are chains that keep us captive and away from the presence of God. Don’t fall into this lying world desires, living pattern and contentment. Seek the word, retain it and let your words be truthful all the time.
