Proverbs 18

Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

11 The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honour is humility.

13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

16 A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.

17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the Lord.

23 The poor useth intreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.

24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

  1. Be careful for what you say!

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

    “Be blessed……”

  2. 15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.

With so many versions/doctrines of Christianity, it is often difficult to decern which Church to attend. When seeking the Lord’s guidance, it appears that we are obligated to perform our own due diligence. If a Christian truly wants to know which doctrine to align themself with, if they are prudent and wise, they will obtain the necessary knowledge.

  3. He that answereth a matter before he hears it, this is not a good practice, it shows the person you are talking to that you are not listening. So you answer could be vague and make your possible unsaved person unapproachable.

  4. Prov. 18: 24 [ amp] The man of many friends is friend of all the world] will prove himself a bad friend, But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Sure you can have many friends!
But the only true friend that you can lean on and trust.
    His name is Jesus.
He will never leave you or forsake you !
    I live and love Jesus.

  5. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

It can be challenging to show yourself friendly if you’re not full of the holy ghost. Spend some time with Jesus and be filled with the holy ghost. Let God lead your steps into a hurting, lost souls path. Be sensitive to his spirit and let him lead your speech. Its a beautiful thing when God uses you for his divine appointment. When someone ask you to serve the Lord you really never know what he has set up for you. Sometimes when I’m asked to do something and its for the Kingdom it may not seem the most appealing thing to do or maybe i had plans but usually when you answer those calls its because Gods saying ok i want cause you. Your act of kindness can be the very act that shows someone hope. it could be the very spark that sets fire of restoration in someones soul. There are so many hurting people out there and this city needs people like you and i to reach them. Stand on the word of God and he will make a way.

  6. Proverbs 18:10-11
    10) The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
    11) The rich man’s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

The rich man’s wealth is his strong city. In his own conceit (pride), it is an high wall around him. The rich man puts his trust in his wealth. The rich man thinks that it is his wealth that will keep him safe and secure from all danger and threat and during storms of life, but it can’t and won’t. Prov. 11:28 says, “He that trusteth in his riches shall fall.”

I’m so Thankful to know that The Name Of The LORD, JESUS, is a Strong Tower. When I feel like I am in danger or being threatened or going through a storm of life, I can always run to JESUS, and I am Safe, Shielded, and Protected.
    JESUS is my Strong Tower.
    JESUS is my Hiding Place.
    JESUS is my Refuge.
I am always Safe and Secure in HIM.

JESUS the Most Beautiful Name that I know!!

  7. 8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

The enemy likes to use our tongue!!! If he can get us to hurt someone by using our tongue then the person being trampled on most likely will get distracted and hurt thus preventing the flow of living waters. GOD CAN DO ALL THINGS!!!

  8. 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

This is one of the greatest questions that a Christian can ask. A wounded spirit who can bear?
Many times before during my walk with God, I have encountered some folks that have lashed out to me or my family. Some even used us and even tried to abuse us, taking advantage of our passion to help others. I have found that the most cruel individuals in the world have been inside of the church. It brings the ministry adversity and defiance of some that will try to wound you or even try to destroy you. But a wounded spirit who can bear?

I have learned that no matter how many times I will be hurt or even trampled over, I know that in all times I have to have a passion to do all I can to save their souls. God will reward me for my work and his blessings will bring a satisfaction that no person can bring. The love for God and his kingdom will always bring healing for your spirit, because he is the great physician. We can not allow the enemy to manipulate our humility for passiveness. We have to know that God is a strong tower for the righteous to run into and be safe. Use his refuge to heal and hit the road running to win souls in this end time outpouring of the spirit of God.

  9. 18: 24a man that has friends must show
Himself friendly, and there is a friend that sticks closer a brother.

    JESUS!
Jesus the best friend of all.
Jesus my best example on what a friend is and what it means to be a friend.
Jesus my example on how to be
A good, honest friend to others😊

    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Sometimes it’s best to keep your mouth shut, listen and learn.

  11. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:10‬ ‭KJV

    Hallelujah!!!

I am blessed to know in my troubles I can run to the Lord and be safe as he embraces me with His love.

“Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. My soul followeth hard after thee: thy right hand upholdeth me.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭63:7-8‬ ‭KJV

  12. Proverbs 18

1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.

4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.

6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

8 The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

  13. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

My Refuge my Strength that is what JESUS is to me. Thank you Jesus for I can always hide in Him and He gives me shelter!!!He will never leave us nor forsakes us.

  14. Proverbs 18
14The human spirit can endure a sick body,
but who can bear a crushed spirit?

    Friendship
    Wise ears
    Wise tongue

Many a person has been broken down because of lack of wisdom .
This chapter gives a multitude of instructions. The spirit of a man or woman can become so broken that only the hands of the Great Physician can heal them. Will we apply the Proverbs read today to our life to lead someone into the healing hands of God?
    Am I living Jesus 2 ? Am I giving Jesus 2 ?

    Isaiah 42:3
A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench

  15. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

With all of the things that we deal with everyday and all of the people that can cause us grief and hurt us there is something so peaceful about just calling on the name of Christ and leaning on it when you’re scared or when you don’t know what to do. This proverb says that the righteous run to the name of the Lord because it is a strong tower. It is a safe haven. It’s a place where you can find peace and rest in times when you need it. There’s no greater name that I know and that of Jesus Christ

  16. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

I’m sure most of us have fallen into this trap. The trap is trying to teach a fool. The worse trap is trying to teach someone a lesson on social media. Trying to teach a “troll” on social media is a no win situation. These trolls aren’t actually trying to understand anything, they are just trying to antagonize folks. The Word says they have “no delight in understanding but that his heart may discover itself.” Here’s this same verse from the NLT. Check this out- Pro 18:2 Fools have no interest in understanding; they only want to air their own opinions.

Trolls have no desire to truly understand. Their sole purpose of life is to put folks down as they type on the computer in their parents basement.

  17. 17 He that is first in his own cause seemeth just; but his neighbour cometh and searcheth him.

18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.

When believers in the OT cast lots, they were appealing to the Lord to settle matters for which they felt insufficient. The lot provided a just and peaceful settlement of matters between powerful contenders who might otherwise have resorted to force.
We too should let the Lord be the final judge when difficulties arise with others. We can do this, not by casting lots, but by reading and obeying the Bible, by confessing our faults one to another, by prayer, and by the inward witness of the Holy Spirit.

  18. Wise words satisfy like a good meal; the right words bring satisfaction. The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.
    Proverbs 18:20‭-‬21 NLT

Watch what you speak. Wisdom and knowledge are fulfilling. Foolish words can hurt and destroy. If you’re wondering why things aren’t going too well, consider reviewing your speech; you have what you speak and you reap what you sow!

  19. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

Seeking out wisdom requires action, it just doesn’t come free. Wisdom does not come quickly, but is like a seed that is planted and grows at it’s own pace. Spending time in the Word and in prayer will water that seed and cause it to grow. As we study daily, little by little the wisdom is revealed.

Psalms 119:105 – Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a – Bible Gateway. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

  20. LIVE – GIVE JESUS2
    MANS MOST POWERFUL MEMBER

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Six verses in this 24 verse chapter make reference to the tongue, mouth or words. Verse 21 make it clear for us to understand. Words have power and what we say matters.

In public speaking over the years I have learned that it is a tough challenge to keep the attention of people for an extended period of time. I have also learned that people hear things differently than how I intended them to be. The greatest JOY of Preaching is when people seeking JESUS are able to make that FAITH connection and find LIFE through something said.

Death and Life are in the power of the tongue and everyone I know has a tongue. Much focus is given and rightfully so to the painful influence of harmful words or the Death portion. No I have never seen any literally beat to death with a tongue. However, I have seen dreams die, hopes die, determination die, passion die, faithfulness die as the result of something said from a tongue.

Today however, lets focus on the Life part of the power of the tongue. A foundational way to LIVE – GIVE JESUS2 is to use our tongue to speak LIFE to others. Give a compliment, give a good review, give an encouraging word, give a plan for success, give a JESUS loves you.

Most importantly GIVE a SCRIPTURE (a word from GOD) this is the true example of LIVE-GIVE JESUS.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive

  21. 13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

    Proverbs 15:23
A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth:
and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!

When dealing matters of importance, we must be careful not to answer too quickly or hastily. We should great caution and seek out answers from those who are over authority of us and the Lord… In doing so we can spare ourselves a lot of grief and heartache!

  22. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

We must be careful what we say especially when we’re not having a good day. There must be something we can find and speak positive about-it just takes time to look for it. We can count our many blessings and be thankful for another day of breath and focus on the good so we don’t speak negatively. Besides, every promise in the book is mine! Praise the Lord!

  23. 20 A man’s belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.

21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Your words can bring death or life, but those who love to talk will reap the consequences

  24. Provebs 18:2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.
18:2 NIV Fools find no pleasure in understanding but delight in airing their own opinions.

I am sure we have all came across someone in our life that seems to “know” everything. I have been in a management position in different jobs and someone who thinks they know everything are very hard to teach. In fact they usually do not work out. Having an open mind, to learn and trust in God is SO VERY IMPORTANT.
I know someone that has a closed mind and does not understand how I speak in tongues! I am glad that I go to a truthful speaking church and I thank you Jesus for this day.

  25. “The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬
When the wellspring of a man’s being is rooted in wisdom, it will then flow out from their words.

  26. “Spouting off before listening to the facts, is both shameful and foolish.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Giving an answer before hearing all the facts not only can be shameful and foolish but hurtful and damaging. It’s very damaging to be misunderstood or wrongfully accused all because people are not getting all the facts first, that person that’s spouting off is sinning against the other person. This is when relationships are broken. Lives are crushed. Because sin is not just what WE DO, but what has been DONE TO US. It causes pain and makes you feel cheated, rejected, scorned, unloved, humiliated, ridiculed, abandoned, and misunderstood. It leaves the person wondering, “what do you do with the sin that is against me?” And this is when grief starts. But this is a deep grief that I wouldn’t want to wish on anyone. I feel it is worse to grieve the loss of the living, than the dead. So my prayer is that we would hear all the facts before giving an answer. Words cut to the core and God gave us two ears and one mouth. I guess we should use our ears twice much as our mouth. Whoever made the famous statement, “sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me”, must have never been hit by a dictionary.

“Does our Law convict someone without first giving him a hearing and finding out what he is [accused of] doing?”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭7:51‬ ‭AMP‬‬

“Then you shall inquire, search out, and ask diligently. And if it is indeed true and certain that such an abomination was committed among you”
    ‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭13:14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

  27. 1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.

God gives us the wisdom to know what is best for us and what is wrong for us spiritually, we should always remember that we should put the kingdom and the will of the lord before our own. It is always wiser to push aside the carnal and make room for the holy.

  28. 21 “Words kill, words give life; they’re either poison or fruit—you choose.”

We speak words everyday, sometimes carelessly, and others thoughtful and purpose driven.

Ecc 3:3 “3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;”.

There are going to be times to speak words that kill that things that are distracting us from the Will of God, there are going to be times that we speak life in the things that push and motivate us to Live and Give Jesus.

Like verse 21 simply puts it in the MSG version “you choose”.

Only you can choose the words you speak, the things you choose to kill, or the things you choose to speak life too.

  29. 14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?

The body works hard all on its own to fight illnesses and recover but if their spirit is wounded it’s harder. However, the spirit of a man may be healed if they seek healing from the Lord.

One situation is worked out with time physically but the other takes a person to actively pursue Jesus.

  30. “The name of the Lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.”(Proverbs‬ ‭18:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬)

There’s no other name but the name of Jesus that is like a rock that’s unshakeable and is a strong tower. The righteous know were there help comes from and are safe from harm.

  31. He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.

It matters what and how we work. The word work here is not just work as in physical but work in prayer, ministry, and doing Gods will here on earth.
When we half way work we are as a waster in another translation it says a destroyer. So when we are slothful we destroy what God Is wanting to do in our lives and through us.
Everything we do let us work with diligent.

  32. 24 A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.

I have found this to be true. There definitely is a friend that sticks closer than a brother. I have a best friend here on the living world. Yet, I do have an even greater best friend in Jesus. They key is in the relationship. In making friends. I communication and sharing life. In an open invitation to come over you can ask for anything in the fridge. That’s why you are friends. You share your most intimate thoughts, perhaps wounds and pains, but that is a friend. Sometimes people may feel alone but forget to invest in the greatest friendship they can have. Jesus does not treat everyone the same. Read the book of the disciple whom Jesus loved, the book of John. You can tell particularly of an even where you see the favor that closeness granted. They were all sitting at the table on the last supper and Jesus had mentioned that one would betray him. Peter, the one whom Jesus gave the keys to the church. The one in whom authority was placed. He asks John to ask Jesus whom that person who would betray him would be. Jesus told John. Why did Peter not ask himself? The only thing I can infer is that he know the type of relationship Jesus and John had. He know how close he was. Of course, relationship gives you favor. Grants you access to the fridge, or shares with you plans and deepest secrets. They truth is. If you spend time in getting to know that friend. That fried who showed great love in which he gave his life for his friends…. that is the relationship that you will never feel alone. Yes there might be times when he might feel absent. But trust me. There is another in the fire.

  33. 24 There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother.
    Proverbs 18:24 NLT

Let us be carful on who we hang around with now days. The enemy will try many ways to use people to try and distract you from the Lord and your guidance with him, and to put people in your life that will bring negativity and selfishness. Surround yourself with people who will help you grow more and more with the Lord, with those that only encourage and speak with light the Lord gives. As we are the Lords children let us be those who people can count on, for people to able to come to you for help. Speak the wisdom the Lord gives us and speak with his light to help guide those looking up to you to the Lord.

  34. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

As the children of God we must be careful about offending our brothers and sisters. The enemy would love to bring division between us. If he can get us to divide, then he will be able to conquer us. We must stay strong and vigilant, if we are to win others to Christ.

  35. 10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

When you feel unsafe or troubled just run to Jesus. He is our safe place and God will give us safety.

    I Love you all ❤️💜🧡🖤💛🤍💚🤎💙

  36. 21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

Let us speak life to those around us. We are living in a world where all you hear is negativity and discouragement. We posses great power in our tongue! How are we using it? I pray that we use this great power and bring forth life and the love of God to those who are discouraged.

  37. 0 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

Jesus is our strong tower and everyone that comes to him are safe in His arms. This is not a safety from things this mortal body has to endure but our soul is anchored in the safest place in the world and through eternity.

  38. In this chapter I think it was trying to say that we have to be willing and accepting new people in our lives to be kind! We must not let the wicked interfere with us! We must stand strong and together to defeat the enemy!

  39. “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The name of Jesus is powerful. When you call on His name strongholds come crashing down and demons begin to flee. There’s victory in Him, in His name there’s peace, joy, and love. Jesus is the firm foundation that can’t be shaken, there is no other name that can compare to Jesus. He is the way, the truth and life. Let God move in your life. Let God be your strong tower.

  40. Verse 15 MSG “Wise men and women are always learning, always listening for fresh insights. Same verse AMP “The mind of the prudent [always] acquires knowledge, And the ear of the wise [always] seeks knowledge.” Same verse ESV “An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” Same verse VOICE “Clever people go after knowledge to obtain it, and wise people attune their ears to hear it.” It makes no sense to obtain it and not actually hear it. So we must LIVE it; so, we can GIVE it. Proverbs 4:5 AMP says “Get [skillful and godly] wisdom! Acquire understanding [actively seek spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]! Do not forget nor turn away from the words of my mouth.” Same verse VOICE “Whatever it takes to gain Wisdom, do it. To gain understanding, do it! Never forget this! Never stray from what I am telling you.”

  41. 2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may discover itself.

Don’t be the one who thinks they know it all to where they don’t need to seek him. We must always be seeking him and gaining more understanding no matter what. In order for a plant to stay alive wit must be watered. As Christians we are like plants and must be watered. By faithfully praying, reading his word, worship and praising his name we are watering our souls and making sure we stay alive spiritually.

  42. Proverbs 18:10
The name of the lord is a strong fortress; the godly run to him and are safe.

The Lord knows just what we need and what we need to hear just at the right time in our lives.

Thank you Jesus for your word.

  43. Proverbs 18:10 The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

The righteous find protection in the Lord. Thank God for His mercy and Grace!

Psalm 18:2 The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

  44. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

The words of someone close to you are much more dangerous than that of someone you don’t know. Family hurts are the hardest to get over. We have to be careful in our passions not to let them offend.

  45. 19An offended friend is harder to win back than a fortified city.
Arguments separate friends like a gate locked with bars.

If you have a trusted friend, keep that way. Don’t say or do anything that will jeopardize that friendship. Just like relationship it will be hard to trust that friend again.

  46. The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
    Proverbs 18:14 KJV

    https://bible.com/bible/1/pro.18.14.KJV

We can’t control what people do to us. But we can control our response and how we allow it to continue to affect our lives. Jesus is so specific on the subject of forgiveness. There’s not a lot of grey area. The negative affects of allowing bitterness to rule in your life from unforgiven was can choke out every good thing. It’s more profitable to walk in forgive was and every depth.

  47. “Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I thank God He gave us the power to speak life and death into situations, into storms we’re facing, into ourselves. I pray we are wise in what we decide to speak over and into

  48. “He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This makes me think of my children. Sometimes it is extremely difficult to get one child to do things. That child just lolli-gags around and doesn’t like to do much. Sometimes this child leaves things out and wastes them. It has even happened once or twice that this child has even wasted our time so that the family can no longer do something we all wanted to do. Sothfulness and wastestfulness do go hand in hand. They are from the same “parent,” that is pride. Pride allows for people to waste things without regard to those around them. Pride allows for one to think they are above doing things for themselves and that others should do it for them.

God resists the proud. It’s better to be humble with God that to have a sibling like sloth or waste.

  49. 4 The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Be careful what words come across you tongue and out of your mouth!! So many things can be said. Will you make those words of wisdom or contempt?? Our words have so much power. . A lot more power than some of us realize!!

5 It is not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
6 A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.

Also, be careful of the words you hear and repeat. I don’t my words to any I’ll feel towards anyone, especially if it’s repeated and not the truth!

  50. 19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city: and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

There are so many wise scriptures in this chapter but this verse is a reminder that how we treat one another is very important, esp those that are new or young in the Lord.
