2 Chronicles 10

And Rehoboam went to Shechem: for to Shechem were all Israel come to make him king.

And it came to pass, when Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who was in Egypt, whither he fled from the presence of Solomon the king, heard it, that Jeroboam returned out of Egypt.

And they sent and called him. So Jeroboam and all Israel came and spake to Rehoboam, saying,

Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve thee.

And he said unto them, Come again unto me after three days. And the people departed.

And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?

And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

10 And the young men that were brought up with him spake unto him, saying, Thus shalt thou answer the people that spake unto thee, saying, Thy father made our yoke heavy, but make thou it somewhat lighter for us; thus shalt thou say unto them, My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s loins.

11 For whereas my father put a heavy yoke upon you, I will put more to your yoke: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

12 So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam on the third day, as the king bade, saying, Come again to me on the third day.

13 And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

14 And answered them after the advice of the young men, saying, My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add thereto: my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16 And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

17 But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

18 Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.

19 And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

  1. 2 Chron 10 :8 -9 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stool before him.
[9] And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me , saying , Ease some what the yoke that thy father did put upon us?
Rehoboam turn a deaf ear to them for there advice.
We got to be careful of who we take advice from.
Prov 19: 20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction , that thou mayest be wise in thy letter end.
Our Pastor and Sis Watts are good godly leaders that can give us good advice.
Our elders can give good advice.
The best advice of counseling and consulting comes hearing and receiving God word in our hearts and minds.
Hallelujah to God be the glory.
    Say Amen.

  2. 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

If you are kind to people and help them and be a friend to them they will be be friends for ever

  3. “When the people realized that Rehoboam would not listen to them, they shouted: “We don’t have to be loyal to David’s family. We can do what we want. Come on, people of Israel, let’s go home! Rehoboam can rule his own people.” Adoniram was in charge of the work force, and Rehoboam sent him to talk to the people. But they stoned him to death.
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:8, 15-

How can you expect people to follow and obey?
    Shouldn’t one lead by example?

Living life of obedience always pays off, no matter the title you have as an individual. Lead by example. Remove all rebellion and pride, it’ll get you further in life.

“Pride first, then the crash, but humility is precursor to honor.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:12‬ ‭MSG

  4. 8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

13 And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,

The king forsook the counsel of the older men that had been wise in counsel. We find the old saying you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar is so valuable. I have always been told that you can get more out of folks if you are kind to them. I truly believe that you never criticize the wisdom of the generations that came before you. You can get some of the greatest wisdom out of the most simplest mind frames. The events and adversities that many went through can help in such events now. Our mind frame can not be “well this is a different generation” but we need to realize it is the same God, the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We have to move the kingdom of god by living Jesus to give Jesus to those we are trying to reach in this day.

  5. 15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

Men think they are obeying their own wills and carrying out their own plans unconscious that the matter is of God, and permitted and overruled by Him for the performance of His word.

    Proverbs‬ ‭16:1‬ ‭
“The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the Lord.”
    ‭‭Proverbs 16:2
“All the ways of a man are clean in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the spirits.”

  6. “The older counselors replied, “If you are good to these people and do your best to please them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your loyal subjects.””
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬
We need to listen to elders in our lives , in our church. Wisdom is gotten from experience and longevity.

  7. 6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever

Leadership has its tricky parts and there are is a lot that falls on the person and charge but even when there are times when it seems to be most difficult there is one thing and one concept that remains the same no matter who you’re leading or how many there are. Treat the people that you’re leading with dignity and respect be kind to them in a manner that is appropriate. Leadership is something that is found all over the globe and is an important aspect of life and it remains this principle to have a greater affect. That is one of the most beautiful attributes about Christ is how soft and kind he is to his people even whenever he is at what seems to be his harshest judgments. People need to be loved and respected. Serve the people and they will serve you back

  8. “And the king answered them roughly; and king Rehoboam forsook the counsel of the old men,”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

King Reheboam didn’t like what he heard from his father’s counsel so he sought out the answer he wanted to hear – he sought the counsel of the ones he grew up with, the ones who thought like him and were selfish and cruel like him. I thank God those on my counsel don’t think like me – they don’t have a mind like mine because we are all striving to put on the mind of Christ. I thank God those on my counsel bring experience, wisdom, and character to the table because it helps me to see how great God is! I pray we surround ourself with those who don’t just tell us what we want to hear but what God says.

  9. Unwise & UnGodly Counsel
Rehoboam sought after what he wanted to hear .
We must be careful whom we seek counsel from. What are their beliefs ? Do they line up with the word of God. I hear too many times where people go from one counselor to another yet they never take a look at what the word of God says about their situation. Rehoboam could have reigned with God’s wisdom had he sought after it yet he chose idolatry.
How sad Israel kept leaving the heritage that had been given to them .

    Psalms 1:1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

  10. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
2Ch 10:8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

Wow, as I read this the light bulb came on. Rehoboam was the son of Solomon. Solomon was so wise that folks from all over the globe came and sat at his feet to hear him speak Proverbs. In fact, thousands of years later in the year 2021 we are still reading and studying the Proverbs that God spoke through him. With this being said, Rehoboam was his son. Solomon won the whole world over but his family and finally his kingdom was lost. Sad for preachers to win the whole world but lose their own families. I pray God gives the preachers the wisdom to win their families and win the world.

  11. King Rehoboam made a few mistakes.
    II CHRONICLES 13-14 AMP
“The king answered them harshly, for King Rehoboam rejected the counsel of the elders. He spoke to them in accordance with the advice of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy, but I will add to it; my father disciplined you with whips, but I will discipline you with scorpions.””

When seeking advice make sure it’s from someone who gets their advice from God.

    Proverbs 15:1 KJV
“A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.”
    ‭‭
‭Sometimes it difficult to use soft words. When you do your words will have a better chance of being accepted than harsh words.

  12. When seeking advice make sure it’s from someone who gets their advice from God, just read this on Sis Bowers post. This is something that is hard to decipher sometimes especially if you are listening to someone close to you. Early on in my walk with God I had to learn this the hard way. Alot of prayer and listening to God helped me thru it. I love POFW!

  13. 2 Chronicles 10

8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.
It is good to seek council of the older for they have lived long enough to have been given wisdom. The young have not lived long enough to be tried by life.

It is hard understand the plight of the less fortunate when one is fed from a golden spoon. The rich dream of more riches. In this case the increased riches came from the sweet of the poor.

  14. 8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

It is so sad to watch the same mistake being done. To throw away the counsel of wisdom for the counsel of fools. We still see it today youth seeking counsel from their peers instead that from their Pastor. I still don’t get it! Why go ask someone of your own age, as confused and rebellious as you how to live the correct life, instead go to your elders, go to the wisdom, someone that can lead you with the word of God, not by fashion or emotions. I don’t know maybe because I have always preferred to hang with older people, I have always be fascinated with the old times. I spent my most treasured time at the feet of my grandmother listening to how things used to be. She never learn how to read or write but knew most of the Bible by heart. Young people listen to this old lady most of your friends will only tell you what you want to hear, or what they say around what will tickle your ears. Go to your Pastor, to your First Lady, to your youth leaders, not to your friends. Listen to the word of God and act accordingly. I know you guys see your parents as the enemy but believe it or not that commandment is the only one that is accompanied by a promise for a reason. Exodus 20:12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.

  15. Rehoboam turned a deaf ear to the people. God was behind all this, confirming the message that he had given to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah of Shiloh.
    2 Chronicles 10:15 MSG

Sometimes situations can look horrible but we have to remember that sometimes things have to get worse for God to move His pieces into position. God’s timing is perfect.

  16. 10:18 king Rehoboam sent Hadoram who was
Over the forced labor, and the Israelites stoned him
And he died. And king Rehoboam hummed to mount his
( royal) chariot to scrapped to Jerusalem.
    —-
Most of the time happens like this:
We make a bad choice, and others pay for the
    Stupidity of self.
In this case, his servant died because of the kings decision…..
    Pray about it
    Seek council
    Stick to it.
Well he did, but again he made a choice….
    🙏

  17. We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.
    2 Corinthians 10:3‭-‬4 NLT

We are humans……. But we use god armor not our own. We do fight but not all of us. We should be fighting in the spirt of the lord . not our own. Gods work is like a beautiful masterpiece that was made by him and no one can re make it. The bible says we should love everybody the doesnt mean we have to like them. But we have to love them.

  18. 15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

Whether we like it or not, God’s Word will always come to pass. We must choose instead of asking why, to asking how God will get the glory; instead of criticizing, seek wisdom; instead of worrying, pray and seek His Kingdom. We must live a godly life so we can follow Him in His Will.

  19. “But the king rejected the advice which the elders gave him, and consulted with the young men who grew up with him and served him [as advisers].”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

When given instruction we should listen and not seek out what we want to hear. Sometimes the things we are told we aren’t going to want to hear but it’s what we need to hear. We can’t run from the truth. The truth hurts sometimes but it is what makes us better. It’s is much better to hear what we may not like then to always hear what we want to hear. Because there is no growth if we are always being fed what we want to hear. There may be some tough love but it is good for us. We must learn to accept it and grow from it.

  20. 2 Chronicles 10:8 But he rejected the advice which the elders had given him, and consulted the young men who had grown up with him, who stood before him.

Rehoboam was given wise counsel but foolish young king rejected advice and went with his own opinion, horrible move!

Be careful what kind of inner circle you choose!
Don’t agree on your own opinion.

Thank God for a Pastor I can go to who’s is experienced, who looks at the issues, who places God first and upholds his values, has love for others.

  21. 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

If we are persuaded to tickle the ears of our friends by not telling them the truth, it does not make them servants to us forever, it makes us servants to them. We become puppets on their string that they can pull, and we will say whatever they want to hear because they now “run” us.

Intimidation is a trick of the enemy and peers, family and even friends use it at times to manipulate to get what they want. God gives us wisdom, knowledge and boldness to speak what His word declares. We must allow the Spirit of God to rise up and do what is right, not what people want to hear.

The sign of a good leader, is doing what is right, even if everyone else is doing what what they want.

  22. 6 And king Rehoboam took counsel with the old men that had stood before Solomon his father while he yet lived, saying, What counsel give ye me to return answer to this people?
7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

If you seek Council from your friends, make sure that it lines up with the word of God.

  23. “So the king paid no attention to the people. This turn of events was the will of God, for it fulfilled the Lord’s message to Jeroboam son of Nebat through the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God will not force His hand on anyone, but His hand is still in everything.

One thing we can be sure of, is His Will, will be done. We may delay it with our own actions, but it will come to pass!

    Trust in His promises.

  24. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    TOUGH CHOICES

15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

Leaders are expected to make TOUGH CHOICES, facts are considered but the determining factor must be the voice and will of GOD. It is unnatural for man to heed the instructions of the younger rather than the elder. Elders bring the wisdom of life experience as well as Godly wisdom. However as we learn from this account of historic occurrence that the will of GOD is even greater than the counsel of Elders.

The TRUTH is that we are all faced with TOUGH CHOICES and never before has there been greater need to know and obey the will of GOD. Obviously like here the risk of a fallout or insurrection lingers with every choice. But it is better to please GOD than man.

    Pray over every CHOICE
Find a Word from GOD (Bible) over every CHOICE
Seek Spiritual Counsel over every CHOICE
    Obey JESUS in every CHOICE

These steps will not remove the term TOUGH or the conflict and controversy but will provide FAITH and TRUST in JESUS to see and bring us through every TOUGH CHOICE.

  25. “But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the older men and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and were now his advisers. “What is your advice?” he asked them. “How should I answer these people who want me to lighten the burdens imposed by my father?” The young men replied, “This is what you should tell those complainers who want a lighter burden: ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist! Yes, my father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!’””
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:8-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This is a common phenomenon today – what some call “advice shopping.” The idea is that you keep asking different people for advice until you find someone who will tell you what you want to hear. This is an unwise and ungodly way to get counsel. It is better to have a trusted leader you will listen to even when they tell you what you don’t want to hear.

  26. 2 Chronicles 10:2 & 15 (NLT)
    2) When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard of this, he returned from Egypt, for he had fled to Egypt to escape from King Solomon.
    15) So the king paid no attention to the people. This turn of events was the will of God, for it fulfilled the LORD’s message to Jeroboam son of Nebat through the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh.

The reason things happened the way they did was because it was the “Will of God.” (KJV)-God was performing (carrying out, executing, fulfilling) His Word. It was a prophesy being fulfilled which the prophet Ahijah had spoken to Jeroboam. You can read about this prophesy in 1 Kings 11:28-40).

There’s an old saying that goes, “If God said it, I believe it, That settles it.”
If God said it, It doesn’t matter whether you believe it or not. If God said it, That settles it. He will perform His Word because He Word is Sure and True and Forever Settled in Heaven.

God has had many men prophesy things about our church.
If He said It, That Settles It. His Will Be Done at POFW.
He will Perform His Word. The prophesies will be carried out, executed, and fulfilled.

  27. 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

9 And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

    Deuteronomy 19:14
Thou shalt not remove thy neighbour’s landmark, which they of old time have set in thine inheritance, which thou shalt inherit in the land that the LORD thy God giveth thee to possess it.

    Proverbs 23:10
    Remove not the old landmark;
and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:

When we forsake the advice of men of great wisdom who have been placed by God to speak into our lives, we are allowing the adversary to gain ground over territories that has been destined to be ours. Be careful who you seek advice from!

  28. 13But Rehoboam spoke harshly to them, for he rejected the advice of the older counselors 14and followed the counsel of his younger advisers. He told the people, “My father laid heavy burdens on you, but I’m going to make them even heavier! My father beat you with whips, but I will beat you with scorpions!”

Another example of, don’t seek counsel from your peers. Your peers will tell you what you want to hear. Listen to the advice of the elderly, they have experience on life, and will guide you correctly. The long term solution usually works best versus short term answers. Rely, on your parents, your Pastor, your grandparents and most of all God.

  29. Verses 6-7 AMP “Then King Rehoboam consulted with the elders who had served his father Solomon [as advisers] while he was alive, asking, “What advice do you give me in answer to these people?” They answered him, saying, “If you are kind to these people and please them and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.” Rehoboam went to the elders that had served his father well; but, he did not listen to the wise counsel that had been given. Instead he let the foolish words of the young men who grew up with him fill his arrogant head.

Proverbs 12:15 AMP “Proverbs 12:15 AMP “The way of the [arrogant] fool [who rejects God’s wisdom] is right in his own eyes, But a wise and prudent man is he who listens to counsel.”

  30. 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.

If you treat people with kindness, they will respond positively. You can’t expect people to treat you with respect if you don’t treat them with respect. You have to give in order to get. Good people will migrate to other good people. However, people that are not good or negative, will only bring more negativity. As the children of God, we must treat all people with goodness. If we are to be like Jesus, we must do as he did.

  31. 15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

When the cause is of God, there is nothing man can do to overthrow it. It will surely come to pass.

  32. We should listen to our elders, pastor and our Christian friends. Who will give you good advice? Some people give you advice of what they like, not what may best for you. God will never give you negative advice. Wisdom comes from those who are close to Christ. When we read the Bible, it is full of experience that will guide us in a positive way.
Thank you Jesus for this day!

  33. “But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the older men and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and were now his advisers.”
    2 Chronicles 10:8 NLT

Rehoboam rejects the advice of the elderly man who has wisdom of God’s way. Instead, he seeks his childhood friend’s advice. He rebelled against the Lord in the years that he reign. Making fake gods, which made God furious. What will it take for us to give up our lifestyle and take up your cross and go follow Jesus Christ our Savior? If you live by your will you shall surely die but through the power of the Holy Ghost, your sinful nature is put to death and no longer bondage of fear but now a child of God.

  34. 15 So the king paid no attention to the people. This turn of events was the will of God, for it fulfilled the Lord’s message to Jeroboam son of Nebat through the prophet Ahijah from Shiloh.
    2 Chronicles 10:15 NLT

When the Lord gives us a command let us not ask him why or second guess what he is telling us, just have full trust in him and obey. For the Lord knows all and he knows exactly why he is doing it even if we do not know. You cannot expect everything to go the way you want things to go, the Lord has your life planned out, he just wants us to have faith, and obey everything he has told us to do. As we grow more in the Lord and his spirit, let us be willing to seek him not just because you have to, and be willing to obey all for it is him that comes first after it all, and remember with God you can and will get victory for he is the Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

  35. In this chapter what came to my mind is to not fight our batters with our hands, but with our voice. Words can do way more then we can imagine. It also depends on how we may use our words. I hope that we are all using our words nicely and for the good of others and ourselves. I pray tonight that you use your wisdom and faith to go against any of your enemies, and now that fighting is not always the answer.

  36. 2 Chronicles 10:8
But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the older men and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and were now his advisers.

    Proverbs 19:20
Listen to advice and accept instruction, that you may gain wisdom in the future.

    Ecclesiastes 4:13
Better was a poor and wise youth than an old and foolish king who no longer knew how to take advice.

    Proverbs 13:20
Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

    Job 12:12
Wisdom is with the aged, and understanding in length of days.

  37. The elders voice

8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought up with him, that stood before him.

Something my dad taught me along time ago:

A wise man learns from his mistakes
A wiser man learns from others mistakes
The wisest man learns from others successes

Being the youngest of a family I understood this better than my older siblings for sure. I saw them make mistakes, and have victories. One thing I learned very quickly was, the old man was always right. No matter if I realized it before or after my decision, he was always right. It wasn’t because he was perfect or the smartest, it was because he had learned that lesson of life already. This is Gods perpetual gift to humanity and to the youth of it. The elders in any time are a gift to be cherished. If we would just take time to listen.

  38. 7 And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.
8 But he forsook the counsel which the old men gave him, and took counsel with the young men that were brought u

A soft answer turns away wrath. Sometimes we would be much wiser to give soft answers and be allowed permission to lead rather than trying to demand leadership…

  39. 15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

We may worry about things or situations, but GOD IS THE FIRST, LAST AMD EVERYTHING IN BETWEEN!!!

  40. 15 So the king hearkened not unto the people: for the cause was of God, that the Lord might perform his word, which he spake by the hand of Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat.

16 And when all Israel saw that the king would not hearken unto them, the people answered the king, saying, What portion have we in David? and we have none inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to your tents, O Israel: and now, David, see to thine own house. So all Israel went to their tents.

When God speaks, it happens. You can trusts Gods word because it is truer than anyone or anything in this world.

  41. “When all Israel realized that the king had refused to listen to them, they responded, “Down with the dynasty of David! We have no interest in the son of Jesse. Back to your homes, O Israel! Look out for your own house, O David!” So all the people of Israel returned home.”

Surround yourself with Godly and wise friends and family bot the self righteous and the unjust people for they with influence you as a person and change the way you think, do, and say.

  42. 9 And he said unto them, What advice give ye that we may return answer to this people, which have spoken to me, saying, Ease somewhat the yoke that thy father did put upon us?

Forsaking the council of wisdom a never a good idea. With wisdom comes experience and life. We should take council from those that have already traveled the road we are seeking.

  43. 15 “Rehoboam turned a deaf ear to the people. God was behind all this, confirming the message that he had given to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah of Shiloh.” MSG

I’m reminded of another time in the bible that the Lord was behind some misfortune. Job, as well as the story of Moses and Pharaoh come to mind. Just a reminder of the mysterious will of God, although we don’t always understand we submit and trust in Jesus.

  44. “And they spake unto him, saying, If thou be kind to this people, and please them, and speak good words to them, they will be thy servants for ever.”
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

If you will be kind…they will serve you forever

These are great words of wisdom. When we treat each other with kindness it doesn’t just show people that you are a good leader. It also shows them that you are their friend. People enjoy working with and for those who are kind. It is much more difficult to work with or for someone who is mean and ungrateful.

  45. 18 Then king Rehoboam sent Hadoram that was over the tribute; and the children of Israel stoned him with stones, that he died. But king Rehoboam made speed to get him up to his chariot, to flee to Jerusalem.
19 And Israel rebelled against the house of David unto this day.

I bet Rehoboam did flee! That goes to show the type of leader he was! If faking dexvides treaty’s is going to xczv

  46. “But Rehoboam rejected the advice of the older men and instead asked the opinion of the young men who had grown up with him and were now his advisers. “What is your advice?” he asked them. “How should I answer these people who want me to lighten the burdens imposed by my father?””
    ‭‭2 Chronicles‬ ‭10:8-9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

He wanted the advice from someone who had been there for awhile. When seeking council you’re not gonna always hear the things you would exactly wanna hear. If you take the council from someone who has a relationship with God then think about how your outcomes may be. Think about how much better the things would play out
