1 Kings 19

And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

14 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

15 And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

20 And he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again: for what have I done to thee?

21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

  1. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

You may go to some season in your life that would have wind, earthquake, and fire, But you long to hear that sweet voice of love. That would say to you get up and go away this season it’s over. Then you know that you know that’s gonna be all right.

  2. When Enough is Enough
“Enough of this, God! Take my life—I’m ready to join my ancestors in the grave!” Exhausted, he fell asleep under the lone broom bush.

Suddenly an angel shook him awake and said, “Get up and eat!”

but God wasn’t to be found in the wind; after the wind an earthquake, but God wasn’t in the earthquake; and after the earthquake fire, but God wasn’t in the fire; and after the fire a gentle and quiet whisper.

13-14 When Elijah heard the quiet voice,

Elijah seemingly has had all he can take. He has ran in desperation for his life . And feels as if he is finished.
It wasn’t t until he hears gentle quiet voice of God
did he regain the strength he needed. Sometimes God speaks through the wind , other times the fire but this time it was a gentle quiet voice Elijah needed to hear. God is sensitive to each need of each person. He may show up in an entire different way to individuals . My husband used to say that God meets you where you are. When reaching for someone we may have to change the approach we use. Elijah had just experienced the fire but this time he just needed a quiet voice to reassure him his next move. Sometimes just the reassurance that God truly knows when enough is enough and He truly cares. He brought Elisha to Elijah and the word says they began to work together. Another beautiful picture of God knew just what Elijah needed.
If we remain faithful even in times of exhaustion God will show up. The Angel said get you and eat….sometimes we just have to get up and eat spiritually and realize God will answer and strengthen you for what He has called you to.
    Thankful for the word .

  3. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

Sometimes the walk of God of some Christians have looks like a roller coaster because they are up one minute and down the very next. They have the tendency to be labeled helicopter Christians. We see in the previous chapter that Elijah called fire down from heaven and it consumed the sacrifice, the altar, and all the water that was there. He even proved to the children of Israel that God was not dead. He went on to slay the 450 prophets of Baal and prove to them that serving idolatry only leads to death. So the question is simple how can a man of God do all that and then the very next chapter want to run for his life after a meager threat?

Sometimes when we see God provide through us we have a tendency to get excited and we think that it was only an interview event and that it will not happen again. Elijah was simply more man than he was anointed. He allowed the bark intimidate him and for some unknown reason he allowed fear to rise up and cause him to doubt. Can I tell you that when you call fire down from heaven and you conquer your enemy, you will be able to do more of this great thing if you keep on believing that God is able and will always hear your cry. He will never leave us nor forsake us in the midst of the turmoil even when the natural comes against the supernatural. We have to keep believing even when our flesh allows doubt and fear to come in and try to destroy our faith. If God be for us then who in this world can be against us!

  4. Verses 19-21 MSG “Elijah went straight out and found Elisha son of Shaphat in a field where there were twelve pairs of yoked oxen at work plowing; Elisha was in charge of the twelfth pair. Elijah went up to him and threw his cloak over him. Elisha deserted the oxen, ran after Elijah, and said, “Please! Let me kiss my father and mother good-bye—then I’ll follow you.” “Go ahead,” said Elijah, “but, mind you, don’t forget what I’ve just done to you.” So Elisha left; he took his yoke of oxen and butchered them. He made a fire with the plow and tackle and then boiled the meat—a true farewell meal for the family. Then he left and followed Elijah, becoming his right-hand man.” It is time that we show our devotion to God and follow our leader; but, not only follow but become a helper, a servant and assist. LIVE-GIVE JESUS²

  5. 19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

What are you willing to leave behind to answer the call of God.
Ive heard many testify and share how the call of God is greater than the call of man. Elisha did not hesitate to drop his oxen and go with Elijah. We too have to have that drop it all mentality and answer the call the Lord has placed over each of us.
You CANNOT confuse a blessing from a distraction. Not everything that seems to be good is something from the Lord. Whatever it is thats hindering you or holding you back from answering the call its time you drop and you KNOW what it is so don’t start asking a bunch of questions about it. its time you drop your ox cook the meat and hand it out to the people. Theres a call to answer!

  6. 20. and Elisha abandoned his oxen and chased after Elijah. Elisha: Before I leave, allow me to tell my parents goodbye, and then I will journey with you. Elijah: Go then. Tell them goodbye. What have I done to you?

    21. Elisha returned, but not to his parents. He killed his oxen, then he used the equipment (harness, yoke, and reigns) to prepare a fire and cook all the ox meat. He offered the food to everyone, and they feasted. Elisha then joined Elijah and became his apprentice. Voice

Elisha wholly committed to following Elijah, so he burned and abandoned any reason to leave and go back to his old life.
When we are fully committed to something, we don’t leave a back door open to the old way, “just in case.”

    We will abandon it all
For the sake of the call
    No other reason at all
But the sake of the call
Wholly devoted to live and to die
For the sake of the call

  7. 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.

God always has a plan. Even when all seems lost, victory belongs to Jesus! Be sensitive to the Spirit in all seasons of life and God will always lead us to greater things.

  8. 1 Kings 19: 4-5 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree. And he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough!
Now , O Lord, take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers.
[5] And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him,
    Arise and eat.
Jeremiah 1:8 Be not afraid of their faces; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the Lord.
This chapter is about when God encourages Elijah.
Enough is Enough here Elijah gave up.
Dont give up , There’s nothing my God can’t do.
Live Jesus, Give Jesus there’s Hope.

  9. 5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

Elijah went from calling down fire from heaven to hiding for his life from one woman. Elijah finds himself underneath the juniper tree where he took a nap in which God provided him food for the journey ahead. I can only imagine how tired and worn out Elijah was after everything he had just gone through and the fact that he was about to embark on another journey. I saw this meme a while back describing the situation in which the text was “never underestimate the power of a snack and a nap” while it was attempting to be funny the quote was still very meaningful. God has not called us to keep pushing and keep fighting at all times but rather sometimes we need to rest indeed. Our body needs the nourishment and the rest. We are not designed to keep going without stopping. We are created in the image of God which requires us to rest and nourish ourselves.

  10. 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

We need to stop and wait for God. Wait for the voice of God.
It my come as a actual voice or maybe a pull in the spirit but he will speak He is speaking we just have to listen. It wasn’t until Elijah stopped and listened that he got his word his directions.

Today let us stop and listen and hear His voice speaking

  11. Live Jesus Give Jesus…. I love POFW! In our reading we see a man of God so tired and frustrated with life that he ask God to take him. Since he was a good listener he heard Gods voice and followed his command and God “fixed him up”. Nobody greater, nobody greater than God Almighty.

  12. 19:21 and he returned back from him
And took a yoke of oven and slew him
And boiled their flesh with the instruments of the
Oxen and gave unto the people and they ate
Then he arose and went after Elijah
    And ministered unto him.

  14. “When Elijah saw how things were, he ran for dear life to Beersheba, far in the south of Judah. He left his young servant there and then went on into the desert another day’s journey. He came to a lone broom bush and collapsed in its shade, wanting in the worst way to be done with it all—to just die: “Enough of this, GOD! Take my life—I’m ready to join my ancestors in the grave!” Exhausted, he fell asleep under the lone broom bush. Suddenly an angel shook him awake and said, “Get up and eat!””
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:3-5‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Elijah didn’t run from Jezebel because he was afraid to die. He ran because he didn’t want to die by her hands. He asked God to take his life. But God was not finished with him yet. He had more work for him to do. God fed him and gave drink and shelter. The Lord will provide all of our needs.

  15. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE PERIL OF DISCOURAGEMENT

9 And he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?
10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Following the great demonstration of FAITH and power on Mount Carmel with the powerful Prayer, demonstration and victory, how could the man of GOD, the man of great faith find himself running from a wicked woman.

Elijah the man of GOD had just been involved in the demonstration of the power of GOD of his generation, he had escaped with no harm, but a high level threat in an unfortunate time of loneliness were the perfect prescription for fear in the man of GOD. Based on verse 10, Elijah bought the lie of deception that he was the only one left that was fearing GOD. This is a trap of satan to discourage leadership.

BUT. GOD responded with more supernatural provision, encouragement and instruction. In these last days we must guard against THE PERIL OF DISCOURAGEMENT. The great man of GOD fell for it, then we are all subject to it.

BUT we have this eternal example and instruction to guard against discouragement:

1Samuel 30:6 And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

The act or art of encouraging yourself in the LORD. Not in my accomplishments, because they all have flaws, but in the LORD. HIS Promises, Protection, Provision and Prophesies.

Be ENCOURAGED today, JESUS says that it is not as bad as you think.

1Ki 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

Pride and arrogance cause folks to make promises they can not keep. I once wrote a blog about “The Seventy Fasting Fools”. These folks spoke a curse upon themselves declaring they would not eat until the Apostle Paul was dead. Ole Jezzy here appears to install a curse upon herself from her “gods” if Elijah wasn’t killed by the timeline she set. Well, God isn’t impressed with this queen of wickedness. Her pride and arrogance is of no effect to the Mighty God of Elijah. Granted Elijah is afraid…but give him a break. How many of us have seen miracles…and yet if the government sent in the National Guard to our doorstep with orders to arrest or kill us would we not initially panic? Y’all can act all brave and say you wouldn’t, but you don’t really know until that situation happens…most of us can’t even survive a couple days without electricity. 😂

God has a great sense of humor. Elijah was not killed by Jezebel. In fact God has mocked her and her gods throughout the centuries because Elijah was one of the few fellers who never died, but was taken up into heaven in a chariot of fire.

    IN YOUR FACE JEZZY

  17. 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.

We get so caught up in tangible things that we forget God is Lord over all and in all things! We expect fireworks and sparklers when we hear from God, but in the quiet times that He wants us to be still and lay down every situation and rely solely upon Him!

Still I will trust You, still I will follow
Still I listen to Your every calling
    Though the storm rages on
And I can’t find my way
Still I will trust You, Lord

  18. 1 Kings 19:7-8
[7]Then the angel of the lord came again and touched him and said, “Get up and eat some more, or the journey ahead will be too much for you.”
[8]So he got up and ate and drank, and the food gave him enough strength to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God.

The Lord knows all of our needs and will always provide for us.
    Thank you Jesus

  19. 21 And he returned back from him, and took a yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

I don’t know if going back to the field would ever be a temptation for Elisha, but he made certain that this would never happen by destroying it. Sometimes there are things in our lives that we just can’t “put down” we have to totally destroy them. If not there will always be that temptation of what if.

We must not allow the “what ifs” to ruin our destiny with Jesus. Follow Him – He will elevate and raise us up to be what He wants and sees us to be.

  20. 1 Kings Chapter 19

12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

The still small voice is still active in the lives of the believers. It is that voice that leads the nonbelievers in to a relationship with Jesus. I believe that conviction of ones sins is the Holy Spirit working also. May we have our ears tuned to Jesus voice.

  21. 3 “And Elijah was afraid and arose and ran for his life…”

9 “There he came to a cave and spent the night in it; and behold, the word of the Lord came to him…” AMP

If there’s something that we can all learn rather quickly, and just as quickly as we learned it we can forget it.

The babe learns at just a few days old, if he makes a certain noise something happens. The wisest elder knows that his actions and choices will have a consequence.

Yet, if we all know that whatever choice or action we choose to do will have a reaction/consequence how often do we try to factor in the aftermath before acting?

We can read in the verses Elijah was afraid. Being afraid is natural, but before acting out of our emotional state I wonder how the story would have played out if he would have immediately called on Jesus. We don’t hear him call out to God till verse 4 once he is in the wilderness.

As verse 9 states the Lord “came to him”. We are blessed to serve a Lord that loves us beyond our choices. Loves us regardless of our actions. Love that will still correct poor choices, and provide a way out.

Today, we each are constantly faced with choices and actions. I pray that as we choose to LIVE JESUS everyday our actions will produce reactions that allow us to GIVE JESUS.

  22. 1 Kings 19:5-8 (NLT)
    5) Then he lay down and slept under a broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, Get up and eat!
    6) He looked around and there beside his head was some BREAD baked on hot stones and a jar of WATER! So he ate and drank and lay down again.
    7) The the angel of the LORD came again and touched him and said, Get up and eat some more, OR the journey ahead will be too much for you.
    8) So he got up and ate and drank, and the FOOD gave him ENOUGH STRENGTH to travel forty days and forty nights to Mount Sinai, the mountain of God.

“BREAD and WATER for the Journey Ahead”
When I read these scriptures, it made me think of how Thankful I Am to have JESUS in my life. JESUS is the BREAD of LIFE (St. John 6:48 & St. John 6:51), and HE is the RIVERS of LIVING WATER (St. John 7:38) and the FOUNTAIN of LIVING WATERS (Jeremiah 2:13). JESUS (the BREAD and the WATER) – (the WORD and the HOLY GHOST) is the One who gives me ENOUGH STRENGTH for the Journey that is ahead of me.

Thank You JESUS! YOU Are An Awesome God!!

  23. 11 And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord.

We walk right, talk right, repent, pray, read his word and worship and yet like Elijah, we still need his still small voice to speak to us personally. We are on the right path, but haven’t made heaven yet and still need our hand in his hand as we walk this road. So, no matter what comes-wind, fire, earthquake etc…he knows us and knows what we have need of. Thank you Lord!

  24. “And he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before the Lord. And, behold, the Lord passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before the Lord; but the Lord was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but the Lord was not in the earthquake:”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God is a protector! God allowed Elijah to experience three disastrous storms that could have killed him. God showed him that if He had destined for it to be Elijah’s time to go, He would have taken him already. I believe through this experience God shows us the power He has over life and death and that through any storm He will be there to protect us. Thank you Jesus for protecting us!

Elijah went from calling down the fire of God to asking God to take his life.

There will be seasons where we feel strong and bold and seasons where we feel cannot move any more. It is important that in both those season, we lean on God.

Sis. Crockett taught us a lesson on ambition last week. She said there will be moments where ambition is driving us to do more, to be more. And in those moments it’s important to give it all we got. But there will also be moments where the ambition fades and if our relationship with God is not solid, we’ll stop moving all together. But if we’ve built a relationship with Him, even without the ambition driving us, we can keep moving forward!

It is important to take a rest and to nourish our bodies, but we mustn’t stop growing!

“And after the earthquake there was a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire there was the sound of a gentle whisper.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

He is the God who answers by fire and answers with a whisper. He will be whatever you need!

  26. “But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

From one day to the next! Many times we forget the victories the LORD has given us. When did fear arise in his mind? That’s all it takes, on word spoken and it can either encourage or destroy an individual. In this case Elijah feared and ran. It is why we must always continue to stay prayerful and seek Him in all circumstances. Whether being on the mountain top, in the valley, under a tree, or in a cave.
Remember whom The GOD ALMIGHTY you serve… Remember HE LIVES In you!

“What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?”
    ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
    ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  27. 4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Discouragement can happen to the best of us. When we heed the prompts from the Lord He will sustain us.

  28. “And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”
    1 Kings 19:12

The still small voice, don’t ignore it! God speaks to us but we have to listen. If you do not pray, read God’s word, fellowship with other Christians, you may not be able to hear our Lord when He speaks to you. Stay tuned in to God, so you can have the relationship that will change your life!
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  29. 3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Elijah started feeling sorry for himself and was ready to just give up because he was looking through his own eyes at the problem and how big it seemed, but when he remembered he was not alone on his journey he knew he could do it. We need to remember that God is with us and he is our refuge and our strength and a very present help in trouble and that with him we can make it through anything in our lives.

  30. “Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

There he came to a cave, where he spent the night. But the Lord said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?””
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:4, 9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

No matter what life may throw your way you must stay encouraged and not get up. There are times where you will be at the highest of highs and there will be times where you are at your lowest of lows, but we can’t allow our lows to cause us to be defeated. It’s when we are in our lowest dark valleys that god shows us somethings that we need to see. We must keep the faith and know that god will never leave us nor forsake us. We have to not look at it in the natural but in the spiritual. We have to rebuke those negative thoughts that try and come against us. We are overcomers! We are conquers. When negative thoughts come our way we must start quoting those things as though they were, and get on our knees and pray against those strongholds that try and weigh us down. You bind up whatever is not like him and loose what is of him.
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.”‭Proverbs‬ ‭18:21‬
It’s all in what you speak! You have power in your tongue. Will you speak life or death? The choice is yours.

  31. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

This made me think of how much of God we need. We don’t want to miss out on anything He has for us!!! We have to make sure our hearts, minds, and spirits are opened up for God to work in us. We have to allow and accept God in our lives. I pray tonight that we are all allowing God to work in us and though us!!!

  32. 15 And the Lord said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:

16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

God gave Elijah specific instructions. This is why it’s important to follow every word of God. When he tells us to do something it is for a reason. We cannot ignore the plan that God has already put into motion. Heed the words of God each and every day and he will show you what must be done for his kingdom.

  33. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

Many times we worry about the ands, ifs and buts. But GOD always has everything under control!!! We may think about the preparation but GOD has and will always supply!!!

  34. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. 8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
    1 Kings 19:7-8 NLT

We must prepare our mind, our heart and our soul for what the Lord might have in store for us even if we can’t think of what he has for us. The Lord is always checking on us, he wants to make sure that we are wanting to grow more in him daily, and seek him more. God knows how far we can handle things for he is the one making us stronger as we go through our trials and battles. As the children of the Lord let us obey him fully let us not think we’re not ready to do something when he commands us to. Keep open to the Lord and his commands for he knows what he is doing and how he’s helping you. Trust an obey the Lord always.

  35. 7 And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.

He was touched by an angel! Notice the angel came to him, touched him, and then have instruction. The angels instructions was help for the journey. Let us be open enough to allow the angel of the Lord to come to us and give us direction for the journey ahead.

  36. “Then the Lord told him, “Go back the same way you came, and travel to the wilderness of Damascus. When you arrive there, anoint Hazael to be king of Aram. Then anoint Jehu grandson of Nimshi to be king of Israel, and anoint Elisha son of Shaphat from the town of Abel-meholah to replace you as my prophet. Anyone who escapes from Hazael will be killed by Jehu, and those who escape Jehu will be killed by Elisha!”

The obedient of Elijah is what I strive for as leader. We need to be so obedient to the Lord will that we don’t even hesitate to let someone replace our place and faithful like eligah because the Lord will cover us with his mighty hand.

  37. 1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

After a great victory comes an attack of deception. This man of God just a few moments ago was used so mightily of God. Defying all the prophets of baal calling unto God and God responding by fire definitely something powerful. This man that prayed that it would not rain and it did not for 3 years… now is drained, frail and running for his life. What can we glean from this? It almost doesn’t make any sense, right? This shows us how frail we humans are. And must be cautious of when we are used mightily that we keep our mind, faith and confidence in God. Sometimes we have faith for the greatest things to be done for others and in general, but for our personal lives we may be running for our lives, tired of our situations and you heard an accusation of attack from the enemy. It’s all lies. All deception. For that same God that just answered by fire at your request is the same God that hold your life in his hands. There are no others gods, or powers or dominions nor authority other than that of the Lord Jesus. So guard your heart and your mind. Known that when you do something great for the Lord you have stirred up the enemy, but our God is alive and well. He is greater than the one in the world. No weapon formed against you shall prosper. In Him we go from victory to victory and glory to glory. Keep hammering the Word against any attack of the enemy. Submit to God, resist the devil… he will flee.

  38. “Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah, saying, “So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I do not make your life as the life of one of them by tomorrow about this time.””
    ‭‭I Kings‬ ‭19:2‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

After reading the scripture it reminded me that Satan is the father of lies. It was a reminder that the enemy cannot possibly tell the truth. It is not within its nature. So when the enemy tries to intimidate you just know that it’s not the truth. I don’t believe the intimidation.

  39. 10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

  40. “Elijah replied, “I have zealously served the Lord God Almighty. But the people of Israel have broken their covenant with you, torn down your altars, and killed every one of your prophets. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me, too.””
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus said the world will hates us because the world hated God first. God has chosen us out of this world to be His children and to ministry in the world so that people can be save. The world hate us for obey the commandments of Jesus Christ and will come against but let us not give into the spirit of fear for God is for and who can be against us.

  41. What did he see?

3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

The messenger told Elijah something. There was nothing to see! Elijah had just taken down 450 men under Gods authority and direction, now we find him outside his mind, imagining things. Just like the 10 spy’s of Cannon, they saw themselves as grasshoppers ??? The imagined it. Your imagination can play crazy tricks on you. Your own heart will deceive you. This is why we must be led of the spirit of God. We must be tuned in to cast down these wicked imaginations. Elijah had enough authority in his pinky to stop Jezabel but he got caught in a wicked imagination that had him running from what God had already defeated. The enemy had no power over you, he can only try and trick you into believing he does. We must know our God so that we can do exploits. We must walk in the spirit so that we can identify these traps before they become imagination.

  42. We’ve heard it over and over that sometimes things have to get worse before they get better. This is a perfect example of that. Elijah had to find shelter in a cave as to not be killed. It looked bad. But God was still moving. He raised up the remnant of His people and had the right people strategically placed to take over each office. It looked bad, but God was working in the midst.
Not to get political here, but I draw a lot of strength from this right here💙 God is Faithful

  43. Strength for the journey.

“And the angel of the Lord came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee. And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.”
    ‭‭1 Kings‬ ‭19:7-8‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Follow the Lord and he’ll take care of y’all your needs. Lean on him and answer them call. The impact and the purpose inside you is much greater then you. Keep going.

  44. 1 Kings 19:7 Voice
The Eternal’s messenger visited him again, touched him, and gave him more instructions. Heavenly Messenger: Get up, and eat. Your journey ahead is great, and you need plenty of nourishment.

God knows when we are to be called either to unusual service or unusual suffering, and he prepares us for it. He not only gives us spiritual meat to eat because we know that we are hungry, but he also gives it to us because of our future needs which, for the present, are quite unknown to us.

  45. 2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.

That Jezebel was something else. No respect and thought she could do no wrong.

10 And he said, I have been very jealous for the Lord God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

It is so sad to see a preacher or prophet ruining from their own people.

19 So he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.

I imagined the passing of a mantle from one prophet to another being a larger scale or something a little more grand. Yet in one verse just simply, “. . . and Elijah passed by him, and cast his mantle upon him.” And the Elijah asked to tell his smiley goodbye and then followed after Elijah.
