Jonah 1

Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.

So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

And they said every one to his fellow, Come, and let us cast lots, that we may know for whose cause this evil is upon us. So they cast lots, and the lot fell upon Jonah.

Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.

10 Then were the men exceedingly afraid, and said unto him. Why hast thou done this? For the men knew that he fled from the presence of the Lord, because he had told them.

11 Then said they unto him, What shall we do unto thee, that the sea may be calm unto us? for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous.

12 And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.

13 Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.

14 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.

15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

16 Then the men feared the Lordexceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.

17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

  1. 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

A great fish prepare by the Lord, swallow Jonah and keep him a captive for three days and three nights. (The vehicle was not that a fish could swallow a man but that the man was that digested, that is a testimony on itself).

    A.L.M.A.S.

  2. Verses 14-16 MSG “Then they prayed to God, “O God! Don’t let us drown because of this man’s life, and don’t blame us for his death. You are God. Do what you think is best.” They took Jonah and threw him overboard. Immediately the sea was quieted down. The sailors were impressed, no longer terrified by the sea, but in awe of God. They worshiped God, offered a sacrifice, and made vows.” Jonah became so comfortable with his disobedience that he went right to sleep. We cannot afford to get so comfortable doing wrong, that it doesn’t even bother us anymore. We can blatantly put others in jeopardy because of our own wrong doing as Jonah did. Even these sailors who finally knew what the problem was were looking to God to do His will. Sometimes we pray and pray for what we want and never even think to ask for God’s will. Instead of running from God, Jonah should have prayed for God’s will to be done and been obedient to what he was being asked to do. Don’t end up with the short stick by running away; but, rather run to the One who holds them all. Jeremiah 29:11 AMP says “For I know the plans and thoughts that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for peace and well-being and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.”

  3. 3. But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

    17. Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Even though Jonah was running from the Lord, He still prepared a great fish to rescue him. The Lord could have let Jonah jump in the lake and drown for his disobedience, but he didn’t. God made a specific way of escape not because of all the people of Nineveh (He could have just sent someone else), but because He still loved Jonah.
If you’ve run from God, don’t assume it’s all over; He still loves you! You may have to jump in the lake and spend some time in a fish belly, but there’s still hope!

  4. Thank you Jesus for today , stubbornness can hurt an individual . Our father which art in heaven thy kingdom come thy will be done . Sometimes is better to follow God’s voice instead of people’s voice

When you are purposed for a mission chosen by God, you will think you can run from God but you will not be able to hide. For the eyes of the Lord go back and forth seeking willing vessels. There is sometimes great sacrifice and responsibility in being chosen by God. When you try harder to get away from not doing something that you were chosen to do than to just do what you have been called for, life is much simpler. It is sometimes tough because we do not want to release the control of our flesh. But can I tell you that God is the master of the wind, he is the giver of life, and we have to choose to either to serve Him or the world. We can not serve two masters. We can not use the excuse we are not prepared or even qualified to do his will. We have to remember that he does not call the qualified, but he qualifies the called.

So if you feel that you are not ready, seem unqualified, or even not worthy enough for God to use you mightily, just take a look into the Bible where God uses some interesting characters to do his will. It’s time to submit to God and release the world.

  6. Jonah 1: 2 Arise , go to Nineveh, that great city , and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.
This chapter shows that Jonah”s attempt to evade God”s commission.
    The name Jonah means dove
This short book bearing his name identifies him as the son of Amittai and offers a brief Ammittal and offers a brief narrative of his experience as God’s messenger .
We are God”s messagers go out reach the out for this city!
Without God in our lives we can do nothing.
Give God the Glory and Honer.

  7. 15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16 Then the men feared the Lord exceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.

Even in the midst of our trouble God can be glorified. He will always work it out for good – He got Jonahs attention and the men on the boat turned their hearts to Him! Never doubt what God will do, even in the midst of trouble! God can and will use us for His glory!

  8. 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

I know a lot of people like to hate on Jonah because he fled in with the opposite direction when many of us would do the same thing or a much less dangerous requests from god. This shows you the mercy that God has on his people even whenever they are disobedient and it also shows that he knew Jonah was going to run. The Bible tells us that God prepared a big fish to swallow him. Which was to keep him alive until he repented. It also reveals that even during our mistakes people can be won to God. God obviously knew that Jonah was going to be running the opposite direction but what I really love about this is that the sailors offered a sacrifice and prepare their hearts to serve God for the rest of their lives because of this. God knew exactly what was going to be needed to get Jonah to Nineveh and for the sailors souls to be saved as well

  9. Jonah 1

3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

Can we hide from the Lord? The Palmas says: Psalm 139:8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

Jesus took the example of Jonah to declare: 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Mathew 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

We do not celebrate Jesus’s death but we celebrate His resurrection back to life.
For He is alive forever more. My God, Savior, and King.

  10. 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

It us amazing hope people think they can run from God. God is everywhere and everything is made by Him.
This story reminds me of today there are people not living for God but if given the opportunity to hear the word and trun to God they would but they are just waiting on a child of God to tell them.
The part the church has to play is not judge them but tell.them.the word not what we think but what he says.
For Jonah didn’t obey the word of the Lord because he thought they were to lost they deserve to die so he tried to put God out of his mind but God had another plan.
Remember today God has someone for us to talk to about him. Let us not miss it.
Remember we are also giving a testimony either of God’s kingdom or this world’s what are we giving off?

  11. 1 Now the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying,

2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.

3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

Thank God for being so merciful!!! We run from him when things gets tough, but it shouldn’t be that way we should run to God.

  12. 14 Wherefore they cried unto the Lord, and said, We beseech thee, O Lord, we beseech thee, let us not perish for this man’s life, and lay not upon us innocent blood: for thou, O Lord, hast done as it pleased thee.
15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.
16 Then the men feared the Lordexceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.

The mariners went from praying to their idols to crying out to the 1 true living God and when they saw the works of the Lord God they offered him a sacrifice and made vows! We must let others see the hand of God work in our lives so they can see and receive their own miracle. The other comment I have is that when we run from God and his will for our lives, we can end up in world of stink, a world of the biggest mess we have even experienced. Yet he still loves us and will hear our faintest cry and bring us out to the place he has for us in his kingdom.

  13. So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

Exactly what I did when I needed JESUS and didn’t want to have a relationship with HIM. I would run to the person that I knew could get ahold of JESUS!!!
THIS IS WHY WE MUST BE READY!!! The world will run to us so we can get ahold of JESUS on their behalf and we must show them the way, the truth and the life!!!

  14. 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah was running from the presence of the Lord because he was not willing to do the work of the Lord. But why? I’m sure he justified his reasons to himself. … possibly out of fear. But God had plans for Jonah; instead of letting him drown, God prepared a way of escape to get his attention. Many times God has to do the same to us when we neglect to keep our vows that we made to Him!

  15. A man put into the belly of a whale is one of the most interesting stories in the Bible. As we know as educated people today that could only happen with God doing it. God does the supernatural. The love for Jonas was so great that God had to go to great lengths to get his attention and keep him safe. God is so awesome!

  16. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
Jonah was asleep…in the middle of the storm he was asleep. Everything around him was going down, but he was asleep. Complete chaos was erupting everywhere, but he was asleep. I find it surprising that Jonah could sleep through such a storm but I do believe it. In fact (under different circumstances, Jesus slept through a similar storm. Jonah slept in disobedience, but we know Jesus was in complete obedience.

With these two examples, we realize sometimes storms will come with disobedience and sometimes storms will come with obedience.

  17. 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

Jonah did not want to help the people of Nineveh in anyway. He thought he could run and hide from God. But God’s will be done! When you are chosen by God to be used to accomplish His will, there isn’t anywhere you can run to that God doesn’t know before you even get there.

  18. “And he said unto them, I am an Hebrew; and I fear the Lord, the God of heaven, which hath made the sea and the dry land.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Isn’t it something how we can say after the storms in our life that we finally recognize whom GOD is in our life. We need to put away every excuse and walk in the calling and purpose GOD has for each of us. Obedience will always bring great revival. Don’t be the one to put limits on GOD.

  19. Go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim [judgment] against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.” 3But Jonah ran away to Tarshish to escape from the presence of the Lord [and his duty as His prophet]. He went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish [the most remote of the Phoenician trading cities]. So he paid the fare and went down into the ship to go with them to Tarshish away from the presence of the Lord.
4But the Lord hurled a great wind toward the sea, and there was a violent tempest on the sea so that the ship was about to break up. AMP

Being disobedient is going to catch up with us and we more than than likely are not going to the outcome. Running from God is just making harder or ourselves and the sooner we come to realize it will make it easier on us. We have all tried to not do something that we have been called to do and in the end after running and making excuses and see that we we were wrong sure makes for a much more pleasant day.

  20. 1:13 nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land but they could not: for the sea wrought and was tempestuous against them.
    —-
    Useless effort, waisted time….
These men were ( physically) working hard
    Trying to make something happen.
Even though they had already been told why
    That was happening..
    —-
What I get from this is:
When I am being told to do something …
When a word of faith has been given to me..
When the lord has talked to me one on one…
I as a believer must believe it, accept it
Obey it, wait for it or do it.. whatever the situation is..
Instead of fighting g in the flesh…
    Accept it in the Spirit.
Yes, these men had good intentions. Trying to save this man( Jonah) yet, they had already been told what to do.

  21. Jonah 1
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

There is no way to hide from God. Jonah thought he could run from the presence of God. Yet God had a specific plan for Jonah. Jonah was supposed to deliver a message and he did not want to . He gets on a boat maybe a time of relaxation for he is asleep. Mind you now he is a prophet of God surrounded by others who evidently didn’t know His God yet these people come and wake him for their prayer meeting.
What a wonder not only was he running from God’s instruction but he thought he could leave even the presence of God . Fear of the assignment God had given him. Maybe a lack of confidence yet God was not going to let him off easy . We must realize when God gives us an assignment He will equip us with His power to do it. Jonah had to find out the hard way it would have been better to have gone to Nineveh than to spend his R & R in the belly of a whale ……..you can’t run from the presence of God and if God has given you a specific assignment then He believes you are capable of doing it …..He is omnipotent and knows exactly where we are. We must work fir the Kingdom of God even if it is an uncomfortable position. We must walk right into the enemy’s territory and proclaim the good news . My mind goes right now to when we were in Estonia. Getting ready for a crusade . Robyn Shutes the missionary and are walking across a college campus . There is a large circle of young adults sitting on the ground . I was a bit hesitant at first but I felt the nudge of the Himy Ghost to walk right into their circle and speak to them about the crusade and make conversation about the music they were playing . When I returned to Robyn she looked at me and said “Do you know you just walked into the middle of a Satanic worship ? Of course I didn’t yet God had given me an assignment and with His power it was fulfilled. Don’t ever underestimate the Power of God. God will go with you where ever He assigns you . Thus world needs to hear that destruction is coming and they need God. My prayer today God gives us boldness when we want to run away . In Jesus name . Amen

  22. As I read about Jonah the more I feel that the whale can signify 2 things. The first is a type of incarceration that sin takes us into. As we sin we separate from God and we stop the fellowship with others. We tend to hide and run. We worship less and feel like we are all tied up. What we don’t realize is that we hold the key to our freedom. The key is repentance, reconciliation with God and our fellow Saints. Our only way out is Jesus Christ. I don’t know why we are so silly to think that we can hide from our Omnipotent, Omnipresent, All Powerful God. It’s time to get real with ourselves and stop running, face the purpose that God has for us head on!!!!
The second way that I view the whale is as a type of burial or death. Sin is a spiritual death, for it separates us from the Giver of Life Jesus Christ. The reason I see it that way is the fact that Jonah was in the whale for 3 days and 3 nights. Just like Jesus was buried for 3 days and 3 nights!!! The light is just around the corner for Jesus resurrected and He lives Again!!! Hallelujah!!!

  23. LIVE-GIVE JESUS
YOU CAN RUN FROM BUT NOT HIDE FROM THE WORD OF THE LORD

2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.
4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

OBEDIENCE to the WORD of GOD is the greatest path to LIFE. LIFE is defined differently by many people. But, the only true LIFE is found in JESUS and serving GOD and HIS Will.

Jonah attempted to bypass the will of GOD through going away from the place he was called to. But the LORD sent a great wind and a whale to carry Jonah to his calling. We are wise to GO without the chaos and destruction to ourselves and those around us. My decisions affect more than just me.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive

  24. 8 Then said they unto him, Tell us, we pray thee, for whose cause this evil is upon us; What is thine occupation? and whence comest thou? what is thy country? and of what people art thou?

Again we see our decisions affects others. We must choose wisely, even in little things because eventually little things become big things.

Running from God brought misery to Jonah as well as all the men on the ship he was on. Sometimes the storms we are going through are a result of someone else’s decision to run from the will of God in their live. In it seems all hell is breaking loose, take the time to stop and seek the Lord. If we will see, He will be found and through prayer and His word help us discover what is out of balance with Him in our lives, so that we can get on the right path and stop the chaos.

  25. Jonah 1:1-6 (NLT)
    1) The LORD gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai:
    2) GET UP and GO to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.
    3) But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the LORD. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the LORD by sailing to Tarshish.
    4) But the LORD hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart.
    5) Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But all this time Jonah was SOUND ASLEEP down in the hold.
    6) So the captain went down after him, How Can You SLEEP At A Time Like This? he shouted. GET UP and PRAY to your god! Maybe he will pay attention to us and spare our lives.

Romans 13;11 tells us, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
NOW is not the time to be found Spiritually SLEEPING, while people of this world are being tossed to and fro in the storms of this life.
NOW is the time to GET UP and PRAY.
NOW is the time to GET UP and GO share the Gospel of the Good News of JESUS CHRIST to the city of Fort Worth, to our community, and to the regions around about us.

    GET UP and PRAY!
    GET UP and GO!!

  26. ““Throw me into the sea,” Jonah said, “and it will become calm again. I know that this terrible storm is all my fault.” Instead, the sailors rowed even harder to get the ship to the land. But the stormy sea was too violent for them, and they couldn’t make it. Then they cried out to the Lord, Jonah’s God. “O Lord,” they pleaded, “don’t make us die for this man’s sin. And don’t hold us responsible for his death. O Lord, you have sent this storm upon him for your own good reasons.””
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:12-14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The fact that the sea stopped raging suddenly showed them they had done the right thing by throwing Jonah overboard. They had not thrown him over in anger, but to save all of them from drowning. The suddenness is like the sea ceasing to roar, when Jesus spoke and told the sea to be still. God controls the sea and the wind.

  27. 4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

We know God as the One who calms the storm, and He absolutely can do that. But He also can stir up a storm to get us to where we need to be when we’ve failed to do so on our own.

  28. Jonah 1:1-3
[1]The lord gave this message to Jonah son of Amittai:
[2]“Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.”
[3]But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the lord by sailing to Tarshish.

OBEDIENCE. When the Lord gives you a message to go somewhere GO. The Lord will be with you every step of the way. Trust in the Lord with all your heart

  29. “But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarhish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish; so he paid the fare therof, and wnet down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord. But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.” Jonah 1:1-3

“And he said unto them, Take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you: for I know that for my sake this great tempest is upon you.”
    Jonah 1:12

Well, this has always been a story as a child I have heard. Jonah ran away from the Lord and had put the ship in jepardy. He volunteered to be tossed into the water as he knew it was his fault. The choices we make in life can affect others. If someone is drunk and they drive, the consequences can be devestating. Talking on a cell phone and driving, can be devestating. We need to be wise and pray to God for everything we do.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  30. 2 Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me.
3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

I have heard sermons that described the Nineveites as a town of people that did not engage in cultivation or commerce. The Nineveites were notorious for killing and pillaging the communities they vanquish. The Nineveites were know for many cruel torture techniques to precede death, moreover their trade made was to skin their enemies while they were alive. Given their reputation it is understandable why Jonah did not want to confront these people. Additionally, due to the stomach acid in the great fish, Jonah was most likely severely discolored and the 3 days in the belly of the fish brings harmony to the 3 days that transpired before the Lord rose from the grave, which could have impacted the Nineveites choice to repent

  31. Jonah 1:17 And the Lord has prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

The Lord always knows where we are and when we are going wrong direction and He will get our attention but He does have compassion to bring us back to him.

    Prodigals are coming home.

  32. “But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The Lord can cause a storm and can most definitely stop it. There is nothing that the Lord cannot do for us. God path for us might be confusing for us, but at the end you will understand why he put you through those trials. Have faith and trust in the Lord always for he will never fail us.

  33. 6 So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

This made me think to pray for someone to be saved. This may very well be the cry of the people in our city. “Call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us that we perish not” wow what convicting words.. may we take the time to pray for the lost in our city.

  34. “Then the sailors picked Jonah up and threw him into the raging sea, and the storm stopped at once! The sailors were awestruck by the Lord’s great power, and they offered him a sacrifice and vowed to serve him.”
    Jonah 1:15-16 NLT

God’s plans are perfect everything He does is perfect we may not understand, but His ways are greater than any other. Everything that God does is not to make you fail, but to make you connected to his word and have a relationship with the master. God came, so we can have life more abundantly with Him. Trust in Lord, if there’s anything that will affect your salvation leave it alone and take every step with God for He is the author and the finisher of your life.

  35. 15 So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging.

16 Then the men feared the Lordexceedingly, and offered a sacrifice unto the Lord, and made vows.

Even in Jonas disobedience he turned lived to fear the Lord. It wasn’t the best of circumstances but goes to show that he should have listened from the beginning.

  36. 4 But the Lord sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

God always has a plan for a certain time and place. He will handle anything. All we need to do is obey. Don’t think twice when the man of God, or God himself has asked you to do something. Do not hesitate to listen and follow instructions. I pray tonight that we are all keeping our ears open to hear what God will tell us!!! Just obey pofw!!!

  37. ““Get up and go to the great city of Nineveh. Announce my judgment against it because I have seen how wicked its people are.””
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:2‬ NLT

Get up and GO!! We’ve got a mandate from Jesus – to go and make disciples! Let us prepare ourselves as vessels to be used and go forth in His victory

  38. “But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish. But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Your disobedience can affect others. Lets us no let other suffer for our sin. Take responsibility and repent so the lord may forgive you. Jonah had put others in danger be of his disobedience.

  39. 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

Jonah tried to run from his destiny, but God had other plans. When we try to get away from what God wants us to do, we will find ourselves in a dark place. A place where we are isolated until we realize our sin. Don’t attempt to stray away from what God would have you to do. In our willingness to obey, he will bless us.

  40. 3 But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the Lord.

Jonah even PAID to run away from his problems. Little did he know that he would be not only paying for it financially, but also physically!

  41. When I am out of line God does similar for me. I need a time out sometimes. Some extra prayer time is in order. I need to get my spirit and my heart right before I can be the vessel He’s called me to be. I must lead myself before I can lead others.

  42. In reading chapter 1, I can’t help but be amazed at the fact even through Jonah’s rebellious act He was used to be a witness for God.

The scripture 16 states the sailors were awestruck by the Lord’s great power! NLT

We can try to run, try to hide, and even down right go the opposite way but GOD will always be the one in control. Why not be on the side of mercy when He is demonstrating His Great Power, instead of being the reason.

  43. “But Jonah got up and went in the opposite direction to get away from the Lord. He went down to the port of Joppa, where he found a ship leaving for Tarshish. He bought a ticket and went on board, hoping to escape from the Lord by sailing to Tarshish. But the Lord hurled a powerful wind over the sea, causing a violent storm that threatened to break the ship apart. Fearing for their lives, the desperate sailors shouted to their gods for help and threw the cargo overboard to lighten the ship. But all this time Jonah was sound asleep down in the hold.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:3-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

    You can’t run from God.
No matter where you’re headed if you’re called by God then he will always remind you that you are called.
I can remember at a young age feeling the tug to ministry then going off and running from God. I can remember my grandpa banging on the door of my house every Sunday morning waking me up when I had been out acting up all night and he’d get to that door and say let’s go to church. God would remind me of that feeling I first felt Every Sunday morning. We can’t run from God forever

  44. Running from God

This first chapter of Jonah symbolizes every one of us that have ever ran from God. It doesn’t make any sense to run from the only one who sees and knows everything. You can run but you can’t hide. The journey is always the same when you have a calling in your life and you run from God, it makes you miserable. There is no way to escape it. Your life will continually be in termoil until you do what your called yo do. Running from God doesn’t work.

  45. “Nevertheless the men rowed hard to bring it to the land; but they could not: for the sea wrought, and was tempestuous against them.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭1:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sometimes we might want to save someone who God is dealing with. It might seem like you are helping, but when God is the reason it’s happening, your efforts mean nothing. Working against God do any work.
