Jonah 2

Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,

And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.

The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.

I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

  1. This short chapter goes to show that God can and will hear your prayer/cry from anywhere you repent from your sin/evil. Psalm 66:17-20 AMP says “I cried aloud to Him; He was highly praised with my tongue. If I regard sin and baseness in my heart [that is, if I know it is there and do nothing about it], The Lord will not hear [me]; But certainly God has heard [me]; He has given heed to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, Who has not turned away my prayer Nor His lovingkindness from me.” Also 1 Peter 3:12 NLT says “The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” Jonah remembered on who he could call upon; but, he also knew what he had to do as he said in verse 9 MSG “But I’m worshiping you, God, calling out in thanksgiving! And I’ll do what I promised I’d do…..”. LIVE-GIVE JESUS²

  2. 9. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

    10. And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Do you need God to speak to your situation? Are you ready to be out of the fish’s belly and back on dry ground? Give God a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving – it worked for Jonah, and it will work for you.

    Hebrews 13:
By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

    16. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

  3. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Repentance really is that simple. As human beings we complicated and condemn ourselves and feel like we have to make restitution for all the evil that we’ve done when really the mercy of God is just waiting for our heart to be turned away from our ways so he can redirect our path and give us another chance. God is Not waiting in heaven to destroy his at a moment’s notice he is waiting to pour out mercy and Grace on those who will

  4. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Even in the midst of the darkest hour for Jonah, as he prayed God heard his cries. This gives me hope that when I am being stubborn and hardheaded, I can begin to cry unto the Lord even in the midst of my circumstances and trials. It may be the darkest I have ever faced but my God will hear my cries. If my head it back and my eyes are set upon him, my heart is fixed and full of humility, I will be able to find him.
As I am reminded with Jonah, the psalmist penned in 139:8-
If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

We must not forget what God has brought us out of and where he has placed us. We can and must walk into destiny and anointing. We must be able to endure the hardship and trials along with the blessings of God. Keep on keeping on while we live Jesus to give Jesus to reap the harvest.

  5. Jonah 2
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

    The Great Mercy of God
What a terrible place to end up because you have ran away from God’s commandments. The belly of a whale . It surely could not have been a pleasant getaway for three days and nights. Truly did Jonah think could out run God and the call that was in his life. Yet he finds himself in a place that scripture describes as the belly of hell. I’m sure Jonah had bi idea what was going to happen to him . With seaweed wrapped around his head and in utter darkness . He had observed a lying vanity. A deception that he could run from God and the calling placed in his life. Vanity is a prideful situation . Did he run because he felt he could not deliver the message God told him to? Yet God in his sovereign mercy heard the cry’s of Jonah and was so gracious to give him another chance. I can’t image the feeling Jonah must have experienced when he found himself literally vomited out of the whale’s belly . I get a bit nauseous just thinking about it ! Yet God delivered Jonah . He made a promise to God ; just deliver me and I’ll do what you have asked me so. Sometimes we gave to go into the darkest times to truly hear from God snd realize doing God’s will is surely much better than being in a dark stinky belly of a whale. Sin is. Ginny . Sin finds you in dark places and hopefully before it is too late you call on God. To know someone has a calling on their life and they know it also but will not heed the call is a truly sad thing. Especially when they have told you what God has asked them to do. It is time for the Jonahs to return . There are souls that only some one else will be able to reach. I’m sure Jonah’s experience made a great change in his life .
God I pray for all who have ran from your calling will return to be used in ways that will set others free from this world of sin from lying vanities back into the fullness of truth . In Jesus name .

  6. Jonah 2: 1-2. Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from the fishe’s belly.
    2) And said , I cried out of my distress to the Lord, and He heard me; out of the belly of Sheol cried I, and You heard my voice.
Ps. 120: 1 In My distress I cried to the Lord, and He answered me.
Ps. 130: 1 Out of the depths have I cried to You, O Lord.
Ps. 142: 1 I cry to the Lord with my voice; to the Lord do I make supplication.
I can only imagine how Jonah felt being in belly of Fish for three days and three nights.
Jonah was crying out to God for his repentance.
Than God heard is cry and gave him his deliverance.
    My God can do anything!
Repentance and a Sacrifice of Praise and shout the name of Jesus.
Jesus is my savior and deliver.

  7. But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.luv

When you vow a vow to God, do not delay paying it, for he has no pleasure in fools. Pay what you vow. It is better that you should not vow than that you should vow and not pay. Ecc. 5:4-5

If we make a vow to God and do not keep it we are a liar and where do liars go? When things are going wrong and you feel the world is closing in on you and you tell God if you could just do this and this and I will do this and thus… Where is that promise at when the need is gone and the worry is gone. We better be careful what bows we are making and make sure we are keeping them.

  8. 2 “And he said: “I cried out to the LORD because of my affliction, And He answered me. “Out of the belly of Sheol I cried, And You heard my voice.
7 “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the LORD; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.
9 But I will sacrifice to You With the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay what I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.””
    ‭‭
Jonah thought he was going to die when he was thrown into the sea. But God had other plans for him. The big fish that swallowed Jonah helped save his life. While he was in its belly, he had time to turn to God of mercy and recognized salvation is of the Lord.

  9. 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

No matter how difficult our situation may seem, God is always within reach. All we have to do is call on His name and seek His mercy. Thank You Jesus!

  10. I love POFW! What an uplifting story. God is so good to us WOW just WOW. we read in early days how miracles, signs and wonders were bestowed on Gods people. And today the same can be poured on us when we seek God and obey and heed to his direction. What a mighty mighty God we serve!

  11. 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.
10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

My God. You have been so good to me! Help me to do all You have called me to do. You are my Rock, my Strong tower, my Salvation.

  12. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

As soon as we acknowledge that salvation is of the Lord, The Lord will bring us to his marvelous light.

  13. 2:5 the waters compassed me about even to the soul
The depth closed me around about.
The weeds were wrapped around my head.
    —-

Hallelujah 🙌 and I’m still here.
God has always been with me.
    Hallelujah!!!
Thank God for his goodness and mercy.
    Thank God for salvation
    For the dark moments.
    Hallelujah 🙌.
    God know all things.
    Good is my healer
    My deliverer.
    In him will I trust.

  14. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

He trusted. He repented. He sacrificed. He praised. He was delivered.

God can deliver anyone in an instant; but sometimes he chooses to take us through a process to get back to Him instead.

I believe this is to remove any resistance we may have and to ensure our trust fully lies in Him!

  15. 6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O Lord my God.
7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

We can make a mess of our lives sometimes and many have backslid but we can see that when we remember the goodness of our God, and repent of our ways, he will bring us up and out of the miry clay we got ourselves into. Praise God for second chances!

  16. Jonah’s prayer from the Message version: “I was as far down as a body can go, and the gates were slamming shut behind me forever— Yet you pulled me up from that grave alive, O GOD, my God! When my life was slipping away, I remembered GOD, And my prayer got through to you, made it all the way to your Holy Temple.”

Who has been to the bottom of their life? I’ve been there. When I felt there was no way out, no way to return, God made the way. We will never learn the love and forgiveness of God. What is free cannot be earned.

Sometimes things seem too simple. We only need to ask for forgiveness and its done. What an amazing God.

  17. 7 “As my life was slipping away, I remembered the Lord…” NLT

It’s unfortunate that at times we have to wait till life is slipping away to remember the Lord. He is a constant, never-ending God. We are the ones that “choose” to turn from Him.

When we actually LIVE Jesus, we are in relationship with Him. We have a desire to be with Him, regardless of anything else.

When we live to RECEIVE Jesus, we are in it for what we get out of it. The perks and benefits. And when we feel the perks have lessened, we respond emotionally by choosing to find the perks somewhere else.

As we challenge ourselves to LIVE Jesus2 in 2021, I pray we are not living for Him to receive but to GIVE Him to others!

  18. LIVE-GIVE JESUS
    JUST PRAY

1 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,

Life and choices often present us with situations less that comfortable. We learn from Jonah that even with a bad choice that lands us in a deep, dark, tight situation we can call on JESUS from anywhere in any situation.

From a humble and repented heart Jonah Prayed. JESUS heard and answered. ON this GOOD Friday when things looked darkest for the world. JESUS gave HIS life so that we can have LIFE.

JUST PRAY no matter your setting, surrounding or situation.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive

” 2 Article “Jonah,” in Encyclopadia Britannica (Ninth edition). the monuments, was Dagan, a creature, part man and part fish. That this fish-god Dagan was an object of reverent worship in early Babylon and Assyria, is clear from the monuments.

You know what makes Jonah so remarkable is the fact that a fish hurled him up on the shore of Nineveh. These folks worshiped the fish god 😂 and here comes Jonah out of a fish. These folks will learn real soon however that Jonah gives the real God of heaven all the glory.

  20. 7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

We as humans are hardheaded some times. It wasn’t until Jonah was in the ugliness of the storm (the fishes belly) that he humbled himself and realized he needed to do what God wanted Him to do. We are the same way. We run from doing what God has called us to do sometimes, doing our own thing, and the only way that God can get our attention is by a storm blowing into our life.

It would behoove us to just “do it” whatever it is. Just be obedient, surrender our will and do what God wants us to do.

  21. When you …. Then God will…

But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.” Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach. (Jonah 2:9, 10 NLT)

When we repent of our errors, submit our will and obey the Lords commands then He will make a way.

  22. The Power Of Repentance…..true repentance, preceded by godly sorrow, brings comfort, joy, and restoration with God and a plus with mankind.

  23. Jonah 2:1-2, 5-7, & 9-10
    1) THEN Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God…
    2) And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD,…

    5) The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
    6) I went down to the bottom of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
    7) When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

    9) … Salvation is of the LORD.
    10) And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

WOW!! What a MERCIFUL God we serve!!
When we fell compassed about by life, when we feel like things are closing in around us, when we feel like we’ve hit rock bottom, when we feel like our soul is fainting within us, there’s only one thing to do…. PRAY, CRY OUT to God, and He will Hear you, He will Help you, He will Deliver you, and He will Save you.

Truly, SALVATION is of the LORD.
“He that is our God, is the God of SALVATION;…” (Psalms 68:20)
“Behold, God is my SALVATION;…” (Isaiah 12:2)

  24. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

When we repent the Lord hears our petitions.

  25. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

  26. The book of Jonah shows us important principles about the sovereignty of God. What happens when God wants a person to do something, but the person doesn’t want to do it? Jonah shows us that God has a way of bringing us to the place where we want what God wants.

  27. Jonah finally did humble himself as he was in trouble being in the belly of the fish. He reached out to God who listened to him.

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:5-7

We have a loving, and forgiving God. I am so thankful for all He does for us!
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  28. 17 Now the Lord had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights.

God will hear his children’s prayer. The enemy would love for you to believe that God is not listening. However, he does hear your prayer. We can rejoice in knowing that he will be there in our time of trouble. Because of our God, we can do anything.

  29. “For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:3-4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The LORD definitely desires true relationship and obedience to His word. Just as the prodigal son and his ways of living thought he would live as he liked. Living a sinful life can be costly. The world says it’s okay a little bit of this drug or etc. will be ok… but is it worth you loosing your soul? Jonah and the prodigal son came to realize that life without GOD is not living at all. The LORD Jesus showed His mercy and love to them both. My prayer tonight is that HE will do it again in the life of every prodigal child. Just to name a few:

“Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.”
    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:11-13‬ ‭KJV

  30. “For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me. Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.”

    ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:11-13‬ ‭KJV

  31. Then I said, ‘I have been cast out of Your sight; Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.’ “When my soul fainted within me, I remembered the Lord ; And my prayer went up to You, Into Your holy temple.
    Jonah 2:4‭, ‬7 NKJV

You’re not to far from the Lord. No matter what we do. And if and when we fall, no one is perfect, but the Lord is slow to anger and great in mercy. The enemy of your soul will try and make you believe that it’s too late, it’s too much, it’s not going back. Yet God is one prayer away. He is there for you. Just humble yourself in prayer and seek after God and he will restore you to him.

  32. “As my life was slipping away, I remembered the Lord. And my earnest prayer went out to you in your holy Temple.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

No matter how hard life gets God is always there for you. God can and will do anything for us, he will do anything to save us and keep the devil away from you. God is our strength, he fills us with courage and wisdom. Grow in the Lord daily, pray to him daily, seek him daily, make his and yours relationship most important in your life. If God is first in your life, everything else will fall in like perfectly.

  33. “Then Jonah prayed to the Lord his God from inside the fish. He said, “I cried out to the Lord in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and Lord, you heard me!”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:1-2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jonah did one thing which was ask the lord for what he wanted. My mom used to always say a closed mouth don’t get fed. When we are in need we want god to do something but don’t want to ask him. We have to be bold in asking god and must have faith and believe that it will come to pass. Don’t be afraid but walk in boldness knowing your god is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that you may ask.

““Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:7-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  34. 6But who can really build him a worthy home? Not even the highest heavens can contain him! So who am I to consider building a Temple for him, except as a place to burn sacrifices to him?

No one is worthy for God. But we can give our best, serve him and obey him. God will see this, and say, “your home is worthy of my presence.” Build your relationship with God, in turn the close you’ll get to him.

  35. 1 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,

When I take a moment to really think about and process this story. The men threw Jonah over board into a place that could have drained him: the sea. Yet Gods mercy cause the fish to become a place of safety that he may reflect on his actions and call out to God in repentance.

The big fish was a place of safety for a moment not a lifetime. In that place of safety Jonah prayer. Could it be that he realized his fate could have been much different? Could it be that Jonah realized that He needed to make things right because his world was be turned upside down.

We can learn that the darkest and uncertain of places could be the place God put us in an effort of saving us from ourselves. While in this state it’s a great time to reflect on previous decisions to see if our attitude and actions need to be adjusted in order to do the perfect will of God.

  36. “But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.” Then the Lord ordered the fish to spit Jonah out onto the beach.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:9-10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jonah have built faith and promises to the Lord which cause him to be freed. When we have faith we must fill his and our promises to Lord. Faith without works is worthless. Let’s keep the promises we make to the Lord because it make the Lord trust us and free us.

  37. 9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

God can do and supply anything! He can do great and mighty things! We always have to take moments out of our day to thank Him! All that we need He can provide! I pray tonight that we are all giving Him the worship that He deserves!

  38. “Those who worship false gods turn their backs on all God’s mercies.”
    ‭‭Jonah‬ ‭2:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Who are we worshiping? Where does our time, talent, and treasure go majority of the day? Do we devote ourselves to the things of this world or do we invest ourselves in The Kingdom of God? I pray we’re engaging in the latter, finding ways to include God in every aspect of our lives.

  39. “But I will offer sacrifices to you with songs of praise, and I will fulfill all my vows. For my salvation comes from the Lord alone.””
    Jonah 2:9 NLT

I will bless the Lord at all times, and His praise shall continually be in my mouth. Jesus is the matchless name and His name is above all other name, and is my savior. Let us give God all the glory and the honor. He is worthy of praise our God is an awesome God! Bless it be His name.

  40. What will it take?

7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple

For some folks it takes a tragedy to turn them around. We cannot afford to let our spirits get so far off track that it takes a life or death situation to turn us back around. Some folk only try to serve God when life can’t be dealt with without him.

  41. Jonah 2:2
He said I cried out to the lord in my great trouble, and he answered me. I called to you from the land of the dead, and lord, you heard me!

    Then Jonah prayed

  42. Jonah 2

7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the Lord: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.

9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

What do we learn from these scriptures. Jonah was in the fishes belly and it was a great fish. Even though he was in there he did not forget the Lord nor did he forget how to pray. His prayer was of faith and thanksgiving. He new where is help and salvations came from. He declared : Salvation is of the Lord. He also new that his prayers would reach Gods holy Temple. Will we remember when things are tough?

  43. When we do things that God doesn’t like we put ourselves in a pickle. The rewards for our actions are not always the things we want. Oh but mercy still listens. Jesus will still hear our cry, and when he does respond sometimes getting us out of our situation is messier than the way we got in. Having a fish vomit you onto a beach is pretty bad, but then he had to hike it to Nineveh. That means the smell was probably on him for quite some time. Isn’t it funny how when we are changed by the world through our bad decisions that the look (smell) of the world tends to linger longer than we want it to?

  44. 1 Then Jonah prayed unto the Lord his God out of the fish’s belly,
2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the Lord, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.

Out of the belly of a fish, Jonah prayed!! In every circumstance we can turn to him!! My God is can do anything!! He can put you in the belly of a fish and he can take you out of the belly of a fish. Call on his name and he can and will do anything!

  45. 8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.

9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the Lord.

10 And the Lord spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.

Even in the darkest time for jonah he just begin giving God the Praise he truly deserves and God delivered him from the belly of the whale. God can do the very same for you in your darkest time just start giving him praise and lift his name up!
