Jonah 4
1 But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.
2 And he prayed unto the Lord, and said, I pray thee, O Lord, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
3 Therefore now, O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.
4 Then said the Lord, Doest thou well to be angry?
5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
6 And the Lord God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.
7 But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.
8 And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.
9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
10 Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

They seem to be very confused for they don’t know right from wrong. That those not spare them from destruction . Your day is a day to enjoy your time with Family. Eating and receiving .
In Spanish there is a saying: tell me who you hang with and I who you are!!! It is easily to judge and act like one of them. They must know by His knowledge but others won’t. We shall stand steadfast and watch as God delivers, open closed eyes. And cripples would run!!! Hallelujah

Doing the work of God is sometimes not easy, but it has to be done and someone must be willing to do it. I find that all that Jonah went through to not do what God had asked him to do. Sometimes when we give in to do what is asked of us, the outcome should not surprise us if at first we do not see results. We definitely can not get angry with God and should not get angry with ourselves. Sometimes the expectation is more carnal than spiritual. We have to do the work and let God move in the task and we will see great things happen.
Make sure that we do not make it carnal in what we do for the kingdom of God. It’s all about living Jesus to be able to give Jesus to the world and preach the gospel.
9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
10 Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
No matter how we feel about the situation or what we think about how someone is, at the end of the day, it was Christ that died and bled and Rose for every single individual. We do not get to determine who hears the gospel and who doesn’t. We have not labored over a soul nor have we sacrificed ourselves or had anything to do with their creation. And their actions should not be a measure of whether or not they get the chance to hear this gospel. I know of some of the most “lowest” and prideful individuals that you would never guess, turn around and repent and while the softest of hearts and seemingly peaceful refused to acknowledge Christ. Our job is to share Christ to every individual that God promises salvation to in our pathway and our emotional attachment has no measurement and should have no involvement in that decision. Bottom line: if God called us to reach someone, we reach for them.
9 And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.
10 Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
The lesson of this great book that God loves the whole world not just the Jews, but the Gentiles as well, praise the Lord.

5. So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
10. Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11. And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
Jonah was angry when the gourd died that was only helping him, but was willing to sit back and watch a whole city be destroyed for not knowing Truth.
Lord, help us to see and love others as you do, so that we are more concerned with their souls than we are our own comfort.
Jonah 4:2 & 11
2) And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.
11) And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore (120,000) persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
Truly God has been Gracious, Merciful, Slow To Anger, and of Great Kindness to each and everyone of us who are saved.
And since HE has been so Gracious, Merciful, and Kind to us and spared us, why shouldn’t HE spare Fort Worth, that great city, wherein are more than 942,323 persons. (I looked it up on Mr. Google).
2 Peter 3:9 says, “…but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
There was a 120,000 soul REVIVAL in Nineveh.
Why can’t there be a 3,000 soul REVIVAL in Fort Worth at the downtown Convention Center? (It’s a drop in the bucket to God – compared to the more than 900,000 souls that live in Fort Worth).
IT CAN HAPPEN because GOD CAN DO ANYTHING!!
I BELIEVE IT WILL HAPPEN in JESUS NAME!!

Then God said to Jonah, “Is it right for you to be angry because the plant died?” “Yes,” Jonah retorted, “even angry enough to die!” Then the Lord said, “You feel sorry about the plant, though you did nothing to put it there. It came quickly and died quickly. But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?””
Jonah 4:9-11 NLT
Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?
Jonah, in response to God’s question, felt totally justified in his anger about the sheltering plant’s destruction. This is considering that the plant was just a plant, and Jonah had no personal interest or investment in the plant except what it provided for him at the moment.
Jonah made three errors that angry people often make. Each of these things put Jonah in a worse place, not a better place.
· Jonah quit.
· Jonah separated himself from others.
· Jonah became a spectator.
Jesus, help me not to make these errors. We need each other. Our world needs Jesus, and we have to be the ones to tell them about him.
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
It’s our duty as the Church to hold forgiveness and mercy in our heart. We cannot expect people that have been lost in sin to act the same or to hold the same values. It appears the king of nineveh didn’t know that his way of life was so treacherous, because he immediately repented upon hearing the Word of the Lord. Sinners are not all bad. They’re just doing what they’ve always done. It’s our job as the Church to love them and teach them the Loving and merciful Word of the Lord.
Jonah 4
Seems as if Jonah needs an over haul on his heart.
Is he distraught because these people are now being forgiven by God due to their repentance?
Does Jo ah feel he wasted his own time first he didn’t want to deliver bad news ; he spends three nights in the worse circumstances he has ever lived in. He finally sits so own in a shaded area to catch his breath and then a worm comes along . His anger just keeps rising. We cannot question those who are returning or even God at why first they had lived in sin and now God accepts their repentance . Instead of sitting around wondering why God is doing this why was Jonah not glad for the repentance of these people. Again could it have been pride. We must just deliver the message and truly let God do His work. We must pray that our nation and other nations begin to repent snd return to God. We cannot be concerned about what they have done and not done. Just welcome them back into the Kingdom. Even angels rejoice in one sinner coming to to the Kingdom. Oh how joyous we should be when we will see many return . Help us Lord to be ready …….

Jonah could not see that the love and mercy God was showing him was the same love and mercy God had shown and the Ninevites. Even though Jonah was being obedient, his heart was not right with God.
He was just going through the motions.
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O LORD, my strength and my Redeemer.”
Psalms 19:14 NKJV
Following Gods commands is the most important. If you fail get up and try again and however long it takes to get his command done. Following God is the best and only way to go!!
4:2 and he prayed unto the lord and said

Coming to the Lord Almighty and start talking ((giving him my point of view…) When the Lord extends his mercy to the wicked…..

Jonah like most of was upset over the loss of a blessing that GOD made and gave him. But was not concerned over the loss of mankind that GOD had made. There may be things in our lives that we think and feel to be very important and have great value to us. Realized by the devastation of the loss of such valued gift, we become upset, angered, and even resentful toward GOD.
As we ask JESUS to use us to reach the lost, may we also ask JESUS to allow us to LOVE PEOPLE like HE loves them, so that we may more effectively LIVE JESUS.

Jonah”s Displeasure
Jonah was quite displeased with God”s mercy extended toward Nineveh , the enemy of Israel. He was, in fact , delighted at the thought of Nineveh being destroyed by God.
His repentance and prolonged life was a source of discouragement to Jonah.
Jonah aware that God would use Assyria to chastise Israel.
Through out the story God is even concerned about little things like plants and animals too.
Wow what a mighty God we serve !
My God can do anything!
And Anything can happen.
In Jesus name.
AMP – 9 Then God said to Jonah, “Do you have a good reason to be angry about [the loss of] the plant?” And he said, “I have a [very] good reason to be angry, angry enough to die!” 10 Then the Lord said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. 11 Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 [innocent] persons, who do not know the difference between their right and left hand [and are not yet accountable for sin], as well as many [blameless] animals?”
Sometimes we get our of balance with our thinking. We think more about something that will not live for eternity more than we do a soul that will live forever,
God uses simple, small things sometimes to remind us to align ourselves with His thought process so that we would be in balance.
1 Peter 1:13
Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
Jonah 4:11
But Nineveh has more than 120,000 people living in spiritual darkness, not to mention all the animals. Shouldn’t I feel sorry for such a great city?”
There are so many lost souls and darkness in our city. Its time to rise up and reach the lost.
We are bold. We are strong. We are ready to March on. Through Christ we will take our city back. The enemy and his kingdom must come down. We cannot be silent. We cannot sit by. We must take this city for the cause of Jesus Christ.

It’s easy to say, “Come on Jonah, have some mercy and compassion” but let’s actually walk in Jonah’s sandals for a moment. Just imagine the bloods or crips street gang bust into your house while you’re asleep. Let’s imagine they pistol whip you and your entire family and stomp on the heads of your children and rob you of all your money. Let’s imagine they shoot your wife (or husband) in the head and leave them to die right in front of you. Now let’s imagine you getting out of the hospital and the judge and jury is about to give them justice. Let’s imagine you asking the judge and jury to let these thugs go free. This is Jonah. Nineveh (the Assyrians) were very bitter enemies to Israel. They ravished Israel and were among the most cruel people on earth at the time. This is why Jonah was wanting justice. This is why Jonah was willing to die rather than give these thugs hope.
Happy Resurrection Day! Jesus died for all of us thugs

Those that may not seem worth saving in human eyes are viewed differently in the eyes of the Lord. The sinners that are saved become the bride of Christ.

Sin is sin is sin is sin. Don’t ever think someone has gone too far to which they couldn’t be covered by His grace and mercy. Jesus died for all of us, not just a. Select few. Thank you Lord for your grace and mercy!
We must remember God can forgive all people. Jonah seemed perplexed that God had forgiven Ninevah . How many times have we been forgiven by God and thought, wow!!! If we didn’t have a loving forgiving God, we would all be in trouble. Is it bad that God forgives others? What would happen if we weren’t forgiven? He died for us all and we are all his children.
I thank you Jesus for this day.
Our God is a merciful God. When we need him he is always there. His mercy endureth forever. We may not want the lesson God wants to show us, but just know it’s for our good. He will lead us in ways that you thought weren’t possible. The great God we serve is our strong foundation and his mercy is what keeps us.

May the Lord give us a heart of compassion that we may reach our city and those around us. May we see the value off souls and what God sees and feels for them.

What may we learn? Jonah wanted God to level Nineveh. He went out of town and built a booth which did not have a roof it was open to the elements.
God had compassion on him on him and in one night allowed a gourd to cover the top of the booth. Then the next day God made a worm which killed the gourd.
God gives his argument First that because Nineveh turned from their wicked ways the city was spared. God made the gourd to cover the sun from hitting Jonah until the next day then he kills the gourd that He covered Jonah with. Jonah had compassion on the gourd. He did not have compassion on Nineveh. God said:
Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

We serve a wonderful God who is filled with grace and mercy. He will always be there with us, he will get us through anything and he is always opening our understanding to a bigger level everyday. God has us go through many things we might not understand, but through it all he’s doing it to make us stronger, for us to grow and he’s doing it all because he loves us and he believes in us. The Lord’s grace, mercy, love, and strength is big enough for those who don’t even know, let us go spreading his word to exactly those!
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
God had to show Jonah that he needed to be a little more kind and merciful to others. Yes Jonah may have a good reason to be in the position he was in yet as the man of God he couldn’t afford to go there. God was needing a vessel that he could use to save lives regardless of who they were and regardless of pat actions. Jonah was chosen now he has to learn how to effectively do the will of God even when it’s hard and hurts.
“Then God said to Jonah, “ Is it right for you to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “ It is right for me to be angry, even to death!””

One thing that stood out to me was that Jonah was transparent with God. That very important in our walk with God. We must have transparency.
“And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?”
Jonah 4:11 KJV
This shows the great mercy God has for us. He had enough mercy that he thought it would be terrible for the whole town to die.
5 So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.
When God has asked us to do something He has everything planned out, all we have to do is listen and obey. He can and will handle any situation you bring to Him! He answers prayers, but we have to be willing to talk to Him! I pray tonight that we are all making sure that we are giving God His time out our day everyday!!!
This chapter reminds me that Gods ways are not my ways. His mercy is unmerited for any of us. We cannot please God with our good doings, yet we please him when we are imperfect but thankful. We must submit to his plan because he’s not going to change it. His mercy endureth forever and we cannot wear it out.

I can’t help but remember how many times I held onto something someone had done, and wished for harsher punishment for them, but Jesus showed mercy… and realized that I should have had sooooooo many harsher judgements against me, but His mercy found me too…
“Then the LORD said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 [innocent] persons, who do not know the difference between their right and left hand [and are not yet accountable for sin], as well as many [blameless] animals?””
Jonah 4:10-11 AMP
We see god here teaching Jonah a lesson. A simple lesson of not giving up. Sometimes in this Christian walk with god we may become frustrated and feel the need to just throw in the towel and give up, but we can’t give up on the things we have out our hands to. We must keep working hard because in due time we will see the harvest. There is a time for everything. When plants grow they have a time when they begin to sprout and then after a while there is no growth, however with continuous water and sunlight the plants begin to grow and grow. It takes patience: we must continue to be patient and know that our work is not in vain. We will see the harvest in Jesus name! Continue to pray, continue to reach out to the loss. God will do it. GOD CAN DO ANYTHING!!

Jonah 4:11 NLT
120,00 souls. Jonah was upset because the Lord wrath did not fall on the people because of their sins. We need to look for souls because they can’t handle the wrath of God, save them for the hell!

11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
God’s love for the people is unmeasurable and goes beyond our understanding. We too should have the love for one another! For they too were in God’s mind as He died for our sins!
“Just kill me now, Lord! I’d rather be dead than alive if what I predicted will not happen.””
Jonah 4:3 NLT
When our enemies repent don’t wish for them to be destroy rejoice for they are surrendering to God. If we come to the point where we want to give up . We must seek God to revive your heart and ask for help. He loves us so much that He died in the cross for our sins. We ought to have that same love towards everyone.

Why be angry at the things in the past but instead be wise and learn from the wrong. We don’t have time to dwell on the past but to keep moving cause there is lost every where you go.
Verses 4-5 MSG “God said, “What do you have to be angry about?” But Jonah just left. He went out of the city to the east and sat down in a sulk. He put together a makeshift shelter of leafy branches and sat there in the shade to see what would happen to the city.” Wow, Jonah now sounds like some spoiled brat, who didn’t get his cake and get to eat it too! Unfortunately, this describes a lot of people today.
Yes, Jonah may have gone through a lot by this point; but, it’s not about us…it’s about Jesus and what he has asked you to do. A lot of people have been sitting in a sulk because they didn’t get to do what they wanted in 2020 or they haven’t received what they have been asking for in their selfish me..me…me prayer. Like we heard at the prayer walk, it is time to get out of our hibernation and quit sulking about our situation and make something great out of what our loving merciful God has given us.

There is room in the house of God for everybody! We must be ready for any and all kinds of souls to enter our doors because they all need Jesus!!

Sometimes we don’t understand grace and mercy, but if you could think back to your own personal testimony how many times has God gave you a 2nd 3rd chance. We can’t let God being graceful to someone else upset us thats selfish of us. When God said he was gonna take care of them and give them another chance jonah should’ve been rejoicing and praising the Lord like he want someone praising when he was delivered!

How merciful of God to deal with Jonah’s anger. He taught him by the example of a gourd that he too should be merciful.
10 Then said the Lord, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:
11 And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?
If he has already done it here in the scripture, and he can do it again. He can do it in our own land! I don’t know how bad off Nineveh was, however, I feel sparing America is a lot. But that is how great our God is and how forgiving he can be! He just asks for repentance in return.
