Amos 3

Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

Publish in the palaces at Ashdod, and in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say, Assemble yourselves upon the mountains of Samaria, and behold the great tumults in the midst thereof, and the oppressed in the midst thereof.

10 For they know not to do right, saith the Lord, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.

11 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy strength from thee, and thy palaces shall be spoiled.

12 Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God, the God of hosts,

14 That in the day that I shall visit the transgressions of Israel upon him I will also visit the altars of Bethel: and the horns of the altar shall be cut off, and fall to the ground.

15 And I will smite the winter house with the summer house; and the houses of ivory shall perish, and the great houses shall have an end, saith the Lord.

  1. ““Out of all the families on earth, I picked you. Therefore, because of your special calling, I’m holding you responsible for all your sins.””
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭MSG‬‬

LORD JESUS have mercy upon us!
We all have been called and chosen by GOD. Many have turned away from their purpose, the calling Jesus placed on their lives. Again for the sinful pleasure of the world. Judgement begins at home. Our way of living cannot be blamed on anyone else but yourself. Throughout the scriptures we read about the love , mercy, and calling on our lives, hold on to truth Don’t sell yourself short. Stay the course!

“And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭2:40‬ ‭KJV

“Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?”
    ‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:4-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The judgment without not descend without a reason every effect has a cause. Amos asks seven cause and effect questions, culminating with an urban calamity caused by the Lord. It should not come as a surprise because God had revealed it in advance through Man of God.

  3. 12 Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.

The Lord is our protector. By that same token, the Lord is also our punisher and we should not regard His protection lightly.

  4. Verse 2 MSG “Out of all the families on earth, I picked you. Therefore, because of your special calling, I’m holding you responsible for all your sins.” This verse reminded me of what Pastor said in Directors last night. We were called to serve; but, what kind of servant are you? Are you the same when no one is looking? Are your motives and attitude right?

Colossians 3:23-25 MSG “Servants, do what you’re told by your earthly masters. And don’t just do the minimum that will get you by. Do your best. Work from the heart for your real Master, for God, confident that you’ll get paid in full when you come into your inheritance. Keep in mind always that the ultimate Master you’re serving is Christ. The sullen servant who does shoddy work will be held responsible. Being a follower of Jesus doesn’t cover up bad work.”

  5. 1. Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

    2. You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

    Hebrews 12:6
For the LORD disciplines those he loves, and he punishes each one he accepts as his child.” NLT

God, being the great Father that He is, knows that undisciplined children become no good to themselves or anyone else. Sometimes the hardest thing parents must do is show tough love; not out of anger against their children, but out of love for them.

  6. 12 Thus saith the Lord; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus in a couch.
13 Hear ye, and testify in the house of Jacob, saith the Lord God, the God of hosts,

You can see the mercy of God in his judgment against the people of Israel. Even though they have done a numerous amounts of sin and gone against their God and are about to face judgment in the hands of their enemies God warned his people what is going to happen. The warning is not sent out of malice or ill intended anger but rather Justice and mercy. God has no desire to pour his wrath on his people but we are reminded by his word that the Lord chastises whom we loves. Chastisement is Mercy

  7. You are either with God or against Him there is no middle grown. Your actions will speak for themselves. Do good and you’re with God, do wrong and you’re against Him. It is that simple. Is not like God is there making your life impossible without any reasons, it is your bad behavior that makes Him punish you. So clean up your act for you are His chosen people!!!! If you weren’t He wouldn’t mind your actions but since you are CHOSEN THEN ACT LIKE IT!!

  8. 1 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,
2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

God corrects us with love. We just have to be willing to accept it or we will not be agreed or in partnership with Him.

  9. Amos 3:10-11 For they know not to do right, saith the Lord, who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
    11) Therefore this saith the Lord God; An adversary there shall be even round about the land; and he shall bring down thy palaces shall be applied.
    Israel’s Privilege and Guilt
Israel , the elect and chosen of God, had been redeemed out of Egypt and had a covenant responsibility, with that great privilege came great guilt.
All because of breaking of covenant with God Israel suffer great punishment.
This also goes for us too !
    God Divine judgment.

  10. Amos 3:4

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

What will you do when no one is around.
Will you still be a follower of Christ? Will you still pray? Will you still read your Bible and study.
When I won state in wrestling I didn’t win because I showed up to practice everyday…I won because I practiced after practice. I was running when no one else was, I was running drills 2-3 extra hours a day. Because of that it made my walk through state a cake walk.
If we just have church when we go to church you’re missing the whole picture, you go to church to give you a platform to kick off your week. Give you something to study, it gives you something to pray about, it gives different ideas and motivation.
    So again
Will a lion roar in an empty forest? I sure hope so..

  11. 3:6 shall a trumpets be blown in the city and the people not be afraid? Shall there be evil in the city and the Lord hath not done it?
    —-
    God is in control.
Wether good or evil happens God is in control .
Even when it might not look fair, God is still in control
And by the way, God is a righteous God.
    He is a just God.
So for him to proclaim that evil is coming but it’s actually
👉🏼 Judgment, is because he already gave the chance to repent and by sending his prophets to warn and let the people( us) know.

  12. 8 The lion has roared— so who isn’t frightened? The Sovereign Lord has spoken— so who can refuse to proclaim his message?
    Amos 3:8 NLT

We have instructions from God to compel the people that His House may be filled. Thank You God for Your Word and Guidance. Thank You God for leading us to hungry souls today.

  13. God loves his children. A part of loving means wanting what is best for your child. God has fully provided for us and we shall heed to his commands and live as he has directed. After all do you want to spend eternity in hell and not with your heavenly father? As for me I will serve the Lord and strive for goodness forever.

  14. Amos 3:1,2 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

God’s love and care for Israel makes their judgment unavoidable.

Jeremiah 14:10 Thus saith the Lord unto this people, thus have they loved to wander, , they have not refrained their feet, therefore the Lord doth not accept them ; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.

Psalm 1:6 For the lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

  15. Peace is a greater accomplishment than being right

3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

This is a question, not a statement. The answer is that we can walk with someone that we are not in agreement with. It takes humility and submission. If you have been married long at all you will know that this question is part of your everyday walk with your companion . We must be eager to lay down our will for those we love, do things that we do necessarily like to do but we do them because it brings joy to others. Bringing someone else joy, brings me joy so it is all worth it when you see the small sacrifice pay off with the payment of the smile. This question is the first ingredient in the recipe for peace. Beginning here we can change the world around us.

Peace is a greater accomplishment than being right

  16. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

There are so many things in this world that will keep you distracted from walking in harmony with each other. Especially when it comes to marriage and also when walking with God. We have to be in sync with each other. It is like being in a canoe and having you and one other individual that are paddling. You will never get anywhere if y’all are not paddling in the same direction, you might as well be going in circles. But if two agree to follow the will of God and agree together that they will walk the same pace, the same direction, and having the same goal, then you will arrive at the same place in agreement. God is not only looking for individuals to serve him, he is looking for a church to call his bride. We have to be willing to agree with our shepherd and have his vision and agree to walk with him until Jesus calls his church out of this world.

    Live Give Jesus2!

  17. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus

23 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

It’s extremely hard to walk with Jesus if we are not in agreement with his Word and his ways. God has been nothing but good to us. It is in Him that we move and have our being. One thing is for sure, he will not let this world go on forever in the state it’s in. There will be a day of judgement in which we will fearfully stand before the King.

  18. Privilege = Responsibility

Verse 2: “Out of all the families on earth, I picked you. Therefore, because of your special calling, I’m holding you responsible for all your sins.” MSG God makes it clear that His people are going to be held to a standard. What makes us think that we – His children – will not be held to the same standard? With all the idols and sin, Israel thought that their standing as a specially chosen nation made them less responsible before God, as maybe they had a pass.

This mentality is not limited to ancient times, people today have the same thought processes. We hear too often of a relative of the police chief or even preachers children doing things they may not have done – had their not been a privileged relationship somewhere in their lineage.

The false idea which is too often made is that if we are the privileged people of God, therefore we may look for His mercy, He will not punish us. That is not so. The level of our privilege, is the level of our responsibility. Therefore, if we fail to fulfill that responsibility He will not look the other way. Rather, will hold us accountable for our sins.

    • Amen! Great point.

      Thank you!

Shared this last night at Directors Meeting:

1Peter 2:21 This is the kind of life you’ve been invited into, the kind of life Christ lived. He suffered everything that came his way so you would know that it could be done, and also know how to do it, step-by-step. MSG

JESUS invited us and picked us to LEAD.

  19. Amos 3
3 Listen to this, Israel. God is calling you to account—and I mean all of you, everyone connected with the family that he delivered out of Egypt. Listen!

God calls us to be accountable.
If we are fearful of accountability then we must be hiding something. I pray that I will stay close to God and never feel as if I cannot be accountable for any of my actions . Israel strayed when they went seeking other gods. Guard my heart today and keep me accountable to self , to God , and those in authority over me. Accountability is a pleasure knowing that you can be real with someone it is not a bondage but freedom . This world truly needs to repent and serve the true living God Jesus Christ !

  20. Amos 3:3
Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?

    Unity
Paul and Silas singing together in prison for Christ’s sake (Acts 16:25), this is a good unity. Paul tells us to “be eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3). I take that to mean that the Holy Spirit is the great giver of unity. “In one Spirit we were all baptized into one body — Jews or Greeks, slaves or free — and all were made to drink of one Spirit” (1 Corinthians 12:13). Christian unity includes affectionate love, not just sacrifice for those you don’t like.” The ultimate aim of such Christian unity is the glory of God. Hence Paul prays, “May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus, that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God” (Romans 15:5–7).

  21. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    THE POWER OF AGREEMENT

3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

The longer I LIVE for JESUS more clearer it becomes to me how great a challenge this one question becomes.

    “except they be agreed”

    “how far can they go?”

    Every marriage crosses this intersection.
    Every family crosses this intersection.
    Every church crosses this intersection.
    Every business crosses this intersection.

What happens when there is no agreement?

    Separation?
    Division?
    Wondering?
    Captivity?

    All are possible and probable.

GOD reveals to Israel that their carnal, selfish choices have caused them to be not be agreed with GOD and therefore no longer “walk together”.

We should be very prayerful about choices we make from disagreements with GOD or those in authority over us. The choice to no longer be agreed and walk together leaves a dangerous vulnerability to those involved.

  22. 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.
3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Israel had a true relationship with the Lord at one time and in any relationship if there is betrayal, it brings hurt feelings, anger, separation and so more more. God rescues, delivers, saves, intervenes, heals and then is shunned and ignored by his own people. He is a God of judgement just as he is a God of forgiveness and love. He would rather gather his people and protect them like the hen does her chick’s from danger- just like Jesus said when he we looked over Jerusalem and wept for his people in Matt 23:37 and as in Luke 19:41-44.

  23. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

We often hear this verse with weddings/marriage ceremonies, however, this is applicable in many different areas of life. In business, if everyone is not on board with the vision of the business, it will struggle and could eventually fail. In ministries, if there is strife and division among the team members, the goals will never be accomplished and the ministry will never achieve what it was set out to do. Personally, if we are not in spiritual agreement with what God has purposed for us to do, we are like Paul fighting against God.

It would behoove us if we find ourselves not aligning up with God, the ministry we are involved in, or our boss, we submit ourselves to fasting and prayer and allow God to reveal what spirit we are fighting against so that we can crucify it and gain dominion over it. If we continue to allow it to rule and reign in our lives, it will rule us and it could cost us more than what we are willing to pay.

  24. Amos 3:2, “You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish (chastise) you for all your iniquities (sins).”

It is because of God’s Love for His chosen people (Israel) that they must be punished (chastised) for their iniquities (sins), so that, they will turn their hearts to Him and live right.
It is because of JESUS’ Love for us (His chosen people) that we too must be punished (chastised) for our iniquities (sins), so that, His chastening will yield the peaceable fruit of righteousness in us.

    Hebrews 12:5-7 & 10-11
    5) And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
    6) For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
    7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

    10) …; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
    11) Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.

Thank You JESUS for Loving me enough to chasten me when I am wrong.
JESUS, create in me a clean heart and renew a right spirit within me.

  25. ““My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord. “Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence. Therefore,” says the Sovereign Lord, “an enemy is coming! He will surround them and shatter their defenses. Then he will plunder all their fortresses.””
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:10-11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The lord is not one to play with. There is this saying for every action there is a reaction and actions have consequences. As Christians there is nothing we can hide or keep from god. Yes he is a forgiving god but there comes a time where we will have to reap what we have sowed. As Christians we can’t continue to stay on the milk but we have to move to the solid foods. It’s time out for doing the same thing we have been doing when we first became Christians. It’s time to elevate in our walk with Christ. Warning always comes before destruction!

  26. 10“My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the LORD. “Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.

Once we get comfortable in life with money, with popularity, with authority many forget about God. They forget about their past struggles, and focus on how good they have it now. God should never be forgotten, Always keep God in mind, that he brought you out of trouble, and has blessed you.

  27. Amos Chapter 3

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

8 The lion hath roared, who will not fear? the Lord God hath spoken, who can but prophesy?

We are a nation under stress for this time we will not settle as we want as of years past. Because it must take a shaking to bring a revival. We are called to look up. Luk 21:27 “Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Luk 21:28 “Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.” As Amos was a prophet and spoke the will of the God. Amos said this 7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. There are two types of prophets ones who want to make money so they tickle our ears. We see this type of prophet in the Old testament and New Testament and also in our time period. The second prophet is those who hear from God and only speak what he He says. Not for popularity because we see it in the Book of Daniel where the king receives a dream and his prophets could not tell the king what he saw or the interpretation there of. Those prophets as well as Daniel were about to be killed. Daniel received the vision and interpretation. All the prophets were not killed.

  28. ““Now listen to this, and announce it throughout all Israel, ” says the Lord, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies. “On the very day I punish Israel for its sins, I will destroy the pagan altars at Bethel. The horns of the altar will be cut off and fall to the ground. And I will destroy the beautiful homes of the wealthy— their winter mansions and their summer houses, too— all their palaces filled with ivory,” says the Lord.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:13-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The altars of dedication to idols would be destroyed by God’s judgment. When we build a place of idolatry, we invite God to destroy it.

  29. Will a lion roar in the forest, when he hath no prey? will a young lion cry out of his den, if he have taken nothing?

5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

  30. vs-10
For they know not to do right saith the Lord who store up violence and robbery in their palaces.
    Knowing how to do right
The fprtresses of Israel are pictured not as centers for the defense of the land and its people but as strongholds in which riches taken from the people are preserved for the wealthy. The rich have plundered their own land and in the process their moral sense has become so warped that they no longer can separate right from wrong.

  31. “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

If the church cannot agree, if we cannot receive the vision of our pastor, how are we to keep moving forward?

  32. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

There needs to be unity at all times.
Unity in the family, unity in the church and unity between Jesus and His church.
We are tempted every day not to be in unity but it’s through daily working and seeking God that we can walk in agreement everyday

  33. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

It’s impossible to walk in unity if there is no agreement. The enemy loves disunity because he loves to sow discord. As a child of God, we must never allow the enemy to lead us astray. We can excel when we obey God’s direction. We are stronger when we put God first.

  34. 5 Can a bird fall in a snare upon the earth, where no gin is for him? shall one take up a snare from the earth, and have taken nothing at all?

6 Shall a trumpet be blown in the city, and the people not be afraid? shall there be evil in a city, and the Lord hath not done it?

  35. 2 You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.

God takes the time to correct us. What he is is wanting out of us it to better the relationship between man and God.

  36. “Indeed, the Sovereign Lord never does anything until he reveals his plans to his servants the prophets.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God has his plan and will ready. Nothing goes without his permission. Listen to his voice by reading or listening to the man of God in your life.

  37. 3 Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

Two people aren’t going to agree on everything. At least it’s highly unlikely. Each person is uniquely pieced together by the Creator in His likeness and image. Relatives may even have genetic similarities but no two persons are carbon copies. So no one can possibly think the same all day or we would be robots. This is were free will comes in. Talk about danger and a challenge. So two people would have to make the conscious decision to walk together. They would have to agree on the direction of where to walk in. Jesus gives us free will to come to Him. He gives us the opportunity to bring others to Him along our way. Following us as we follow Christ.

  38. v7
The good news is that He will reveal His purpose to the sincere believer. God always honors the sincere seeker, and He will reward each individual who diligently searches after Him.

  39. “The lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord GOD has spoken [to the prophets]! Who can but prophesy?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭AMP‬‬

I love this scripture- The lion has roared! It is important we listen for His voice and heed His words. When God speaks there is no comparison. He captures the attention of His people because He is The King. I pray we do not take His word or His roar for granted.

  40. “My people have forgotten how to do right,” says the Lord. “Their fortresses are filled with wealth taken by theft and violence.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The enemy is trying so hard to get his way to tempt our people, and sadly we have lost people we love to temptation. As we see those things happening as the Lords children we need to get together stand taller and have God more and more in our life, reach out to our family and our friends and help bring them back home to God. With the Lord on our side we rise higher than the enemy.

  41. “The lion has roared— so who isn’t frightened? The Sovereign Lord has spoken— so who can refuse to proclaim his message?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Jesus is a just God the righteous Judge and there’s no above or below God. Jesus Has the first and the final word He is the Author and the finisher of my faith. Trust in the Lord with all your heart follow His ways and be obedient to His word for God will partners with us and be for us.

  42. 1 Hear this word that the Lord hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying,

When I saw the charges against me , at the very top of the page it also said THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
    VS
    OLIVIA ……….

That right there gave me the chills and I was terrified for my life!!!

    Now if it ever said
    THE LORD YOUR GOD
    VS
    OLIVIA BAKER

IN JESUS NAME I DONT EVER SEE THIS!!!

  43. Can two walk together, except they be agreed?

The power of agreement extends further than one can imagine. This is why the enemy brings great turmoil into lives so there will be no agreement. We must fight off anything that will being disagreement and recognize the tactics of the enemy.

  44. “Can two people walk together without agreeing on the direction?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭3:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Can two go hand and hand to war with out finding trust in each other first? Will a marriage last when the couple cant first agree ?

Make sure the one your going to war and witnessing with is willing to go where you go and die for this gospel like you are.

  45. 7 Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets.

When reading this yesterday and last night I was lost. I decided to read it again today for clarity and to see if I understood it better. But I did not. I then tried reading it in two other translations and I didn’t get much further, expect for a few things that were obvious. I am going to have to keep studying it to find an answer.
