Amos 6

1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near;

That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;

That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

10 And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the Lord.

11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

13 Ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?

14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lordthe God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

  1. Amos 6
1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

    Message translation
-6 Woe to you who are rushing headlong to disaster!
Catastrophe is just around the corner!
Woe to those who live in luxury
and expect everyone else to serve them!
Woe to those who live only for today,
indifferent to the fate of others!
Woe to the playboys, the playgirls,
who think life is a party held just for them!
Woe to those addicted to feeling good—life without pain!
those obsessed with looking good—life without wrinkles!
    They could not care less
about their country going to ruin.

    Ease the meaning comfortable …….
We take a look at the world around us they have become adapted to the sin that is running rampant in this world. Why must we continue to persevere and preserve the things of God? Familiarity. Would Israel have turned their backs on God if they had held onto the principles of God? This world is filled with so much contrary to the word of God . We cannot become at ease about serving Him. We must stay in the word and not allow the world’s comfortable position of sin creep into our minds and hearts. I think of how Satan tempted Eve and how easily she was persuaded and then Adam. Oh we cannot get to comfortable about sin and accept it we must fight for the righteous things of God even if everyone is going in a different direction. I choose to trust in You …..

. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the LORD our God. They are brought to their knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm.

  2. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel.

This scripture speaks of a Church which has grown into a false sense of security from pride due to being Gos’s choosen people. This is similar to:
Zephaniah 3:11 – In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.
Thusly we need to workout our salvation with fear and trembling, which is found in Philippians 2:12

  3. LiveJesusGiveJesus2 I love POFW. We need to bury self pride and only have pride with Gods approval.

  4. 8. The Sovereign LORD has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the LORD God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”

    11. When the LORD gives the command, homes both great and small will be smashed to pieces. NLT

If God would do this to Israel, his chosen people, for pride and arrogance, don’t think He would consider sparing us or anyone else that has the same attitude.

    Isaiah 10:33
Behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled. KJV

  5. 9 And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die.

This is the greatest of all torment of sin. To find the judgment of God taking all those that are in the house. Typically there is a portion to remain to bury those stricken with death. But in this matter no one will be left to bury the dead. It is implied that some how those smitten by God will have some kin folks that must be tasked with trying to bring them out of the house to bury the dead.

This to me is a great warning that can be utilized today for those that will not turn from their sins. We have to choose the king of kings and the lord of lords. I truly believe the Lord does not want anyone to perish but have everlasting life. That is our promise for us living right according to the word of God. So why would we want to seal our fate in judgment of God because we feel the sin we are participating in will cause us more pleasure than grief. It time to wake up and smell the goodness of Jesus and not be lost. It’s time to pray and fast for a great harvest for the church in this end time revival. We have to be prepared or be lost for all eternity.

    Live Give Jesus2!

  6. ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:1, 6‬ ‭NKJV
“Woe to you who are at ease in Zion, And trust in Mount Samaria, Notable persons in the chief nation, To whom the house of Israel comes!

Who drink wine from bowls, And anoint yourselves with the best ointments, But are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.”

‭The upper class people of Israel were full of themselves, arrogant and cared nothing about how they were enjoying a privileged lifestyle off the backs of the poor. Their pride had got the best of them.

    “ ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16:18‬ ‭NKJV
Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.

  7. 14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lordthe God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

Grace and mercy can endure forever but is reserved for those with a repentant heart. Obviously Israel had push God too far and had done so many abominations without attempting to pray or turn from their ways. One thing we know is that God does not play around when it comes to idolatry. It’s sad that it came to all of this, for the nation of Israel the push God so far to be given over to another Nation, that rises up against them but he is a just God

  8. 2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

I walk in the other side(Sin) and doesn’t have borders, you can walk as far as you won but you might not have a way back. Walking in the side of faith (God) The Holy Ghost is the border keeper of your soul.

  9. “Woe to you who are rushing headlong to disaster! Catastrophe is just around the corner! Woe to those who live in luxury and expect everyone else to serve them! Woe to those who live only for today, indifferent to the fate of others! Woe to the playboys, the playgirls, who think life is a party held just for them! Woe to those addicted to feeling good—life without pain! those obsessed with looking good—life without wrinkles! They could not care less about their country going to ruin.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:3-6‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Today we have been warned. Everyone will not be able to say LORD ‘I didn’t know…’

“For people who hate discipline and only get more stubborn, There’ll come a day when life tumbles in and they break, but by then it’ll be too late to help them.

Angry people stir up a lot of discord; the intemperate stir up trouble.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭29:1, 22‬ ‭MSG

As a nation, a church, a people we are instructed to repent. It’s a must. We must obey acts2:38

“If we give up and turn our backs on all we’ve learned, all we’ve been given, all the truth we now know, we repudiate Christ’s sacrifice and are left on our own to face the Judgment—and a mighty fierce judgment it will be! If the penalty for breaking the law of Moses is physical death, what do you think will happen if you turn on God’s Son, spit on the sacrifice that made you whole, and insult this most gracious Spirit? This is no light matter. God has warned us that he’ll hold us to account and make us pay. He was quite explicit: “Vengeance is mine, and I won’t overlook a thing” and “God will judge his people.” Nobody’s getting by with anything, believe me.”
    ‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10:26-31‬ ‭MSG

Just like GOD had the first say in the beginning of time, He has the last word to say at the end of time.

  10. 6:12 shall horses run upon the rock?
Will one plow there with oven, fort ye
Have turn judgment into fall, and the
    Fruit of righteousness into hemlock.

It can’t be explain in a better way.
    It’s pretty clear.
What has been stablished by the Lord
Can’t be changed by absolutely no one.
    His judgements
    His precepts
    His law
    His love and kindness
So, we stay in the narrow path for we know that he’s got it
    It’s been settled.
Or we choose the other one, but he will not be there…
    Do t add to it
Do t take away some of it.

  11. The Sovereign Lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”
    Amos 6:8 NLT

Pride leads to destruction; and that goes for everybody. No exceptions to those with pride. It’s important we humble ourselves everyday and make sure we are in line with His Word and walking in the spirit with a right attitude.

  12. Amos 6: 14 But, behold , I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lord the God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of He- math unto the river of the wilderness.
    Captivity and Exile
    Amos warned about affluence and
comfortable living , for these things insulate people from the real issues of life, and results in a false sense of security, The pride , injustice. and wickedness of Israel cannot go unpunished. Due to her disobedience and failure to heed God’s warnings, punishment was inevitable.
God warns us stay with a repented heart, You never get so tall were you don’t fall.
Get out of your comfort zone!
We are responsible for our own actions .
Thank you Jesus for the Holy Ghost.

  13. 7Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your parties will end.

The things you have are from God, so thank him. Don’t boast about what you have or how much you have. Be thankful and grateful for the blessings you have received. Appreciate what your hard work has brought you.

  14. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
Wow, this is a tough chapter. It does kinda remind me of the Charismatic Church though. These folks are happy happy joy joy everyone is going to heaven when you say the sinners prayer type folks. I reckon most preach the prosperity doctrine and most are at ease in Zion. Most think you get the Holy Ghost when you believe and most think the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is not necessary.

  15. Plowing in the rocks

11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

12 Shall horses run upon the rock? will one plow there with oxen? for ye have turned judgment into gall, and the fruit of righteousness into hemlock:

I grew up on a dairy and we had fields that we would plow, seed and cut for hay. One of our jobs, especially when we got a new field, was to walk every square inch of that property and remove the rocks. Rocks will tear up your plow.

You can’t plant till you plow and you can’t reap what you haven’t planted.

So the rocks were the first thing that had to go. If a field had too many rocks, my dad would get a tooth bucket on the front end loader and scrape The Who thing before we plowed. This would leave the field looking like a Bonn went off. It tore the field up terribly.

God is trying to get us to understand that if we want true revival and harvest, the field can’t have rocks. If we are going to be trusted by God with new souls, we must remove the hinderances in our lives and our church. We cannot have boulders of hindrances or else we will be broke down before we ever get started. We must plow in prayer and in outreach but we have to do that soul searching and our own personal rock removal before the plow of prayer or outreach will do anything.

Let us dog down and get this field ready.

  16. LIVE – GIVE JESUS2
DANGER TO THOSE WHO DO NOTHING IN ZION

1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

The Church is a Battleship. There are 2 main substances on a battleship.

    1. The Cargo – The necessities for survival, the weaponry and all supplies for the mission.

    2. The Crew – Those that are prepared and ready to fight, those that are prepared and ready to serve.

The LORD though the prophet Amos calls out the Cargo here in chapter 6. Those just along for the ride. We must be wise to recognize the time of battle and take our position in the fight.

The LORD says WOE to them that do nothing in the church.

WOE – Alas or an end; enough

AT EASE – quiet, secure, careless, arrogant

GOD called us out of darkness into HIS marvelous light so that we would tell others about the Love and Grace of JESUS along with the pending judgement on those that do not repent and serve JESUS.

The rebuke from the LORD through the prophet was to wake up the church to help them identify with where they are. At EASE in the Church. Not moved to PRAY for the lost, not in Love with the WORD of GOD, no desire to go to outreach or reach for the lost of our city.

The CHURCH must arise from the EASE position and prepare for battle. JESUS is counting on us, the lost are hoping for us.

Rise up Take your PLACE and lets recover the lost.

  17. “How terrible for you who sprawl on ivory beds and lounge on your couches, eating the meat of tender lambs from the flock and of choice calves fattened in the stall. You sing trivial songs to the sound of the harp and fancy yourselves to be great musicians like David. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation. Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your parties will end.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:4-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

A time of sin is only for a season you can enjoy all those things that pleasure your flesh but in the end sin ultimately leads to death and all will perish we must seek ye first the kingdom and his righteousness

  18. AMP – 13 You who [self-confidently] rejoice in [b]Lo-debar (Nothing),
Who say, “Have we not by our own strength taken [c]Karnaim (Strength) for ourselves?”

The footnotes for this verse says the horns represented power and Israel was claiming that their victories had been all done on their own, without any help/power from the Lord.

This is a danger predictament for anyone to find themselves in; when they believe that the victory obtained in their lives is only by their own strength and no doing of the Lord. We can become so “stuck” on ourselves, so prideful, so selfcentered that we take God out of the equation and believe anything we have or have accomplished is our own doing.

Without the very breath in our bodies, we can do nothing. Without the ability God has blessed each of us, we are nothing. We have only achieved greatness in this life by the mercies and grace of the Lord who has extended to us wisdom and knowledge and how to use to benefit ourselves.

Let’s not get so caught up in who we are and what we have become, that we totally lose sight of how we got there, lest we find ourselves being judged like Israel and losing out in the most important thing in our lives; our relationship with God.

  19. 8 The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

God hath Sworn by himself. Usually when I would use this phrase, I would try to find the greatest thing the the person and myself both highly valued. So that when I swore by it they would understand the value of my words to them.

God even when speaking to us , He can not find anyone greater but himself to make an oath by. This is note worthy because God is the absolute greatest standard or worth and value.

We should see how great of a God we serve.

  20. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!
2 Pass ye unto Calneh, and see; and from thence go ye to Hamath the great: then go down to Gath of the Philistines: be they better than these kingdoms? or their border greater than your border?

The best place to be is in the house of the Lord, not in the world. Everything we need we find in Him. We must continue in this race and finish our course and reach to others to join us, and not the other way around! We live the best life, the blessed life.

  21. Amos 6:8
The Sovereign lord has sworn by his own name, and this is what he, the lord God of Heaven’s Armies, says: “I despise the arrogance of Israel, and I hate their fortresses. I will give this city and everything in it to their enemies.”

The Bible is abundantly clear that arrogance is something that God hates. It is abominable to the Lord and in direct opposition to how He instructs us to live.
Jesus talked about what defiles people, and pride is one of the things He mentioned. Arrogance is included on the same list as slander, theft, and murder, which shows the gravity that God places on it. The Bible promises that arrogant people will be punished: “Everyone who is arrogant in heart is an abomination to the Lord; be assured, he will not go unpunished” Arrogance is in direct opposition to godliness because it exalts self above all, and especially, above God. The story of King Nebuchadnezzar is an example of pride bringing a person low. When Nebuchadnezzar took credit for building his kingdom on his own, he was banished to the wilderness by God, living like an animal, and it wasn’t until he gave God the credit due Him that he was restored to his kingdom, saying: “Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and extol and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are right and his ways are just; and those who walk in pride he is able to humble”. If you do exalt yourself in arrogance, the Bible says that you will subsequently fall: “Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall”. While arrogance is clearly a sin, remember that you can be confident without being arrogant. Our confidence comes from God, which means we cannot exalt ourselves above Him, as He is the source of all things good in our lives. Avoid arrogance. Stay humble and let God be the source of your confidence.

  22. That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph.

7 Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed.

8 The Lord God hath sworn by himself, saith the Lord the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein.

  23. Amos 6:1 & 4-6
    1) WOE to them that are at ease (absent of effort, free from labor) in Zion (the church),…
    4) That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall/
    5) That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David;
    6) That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the afflictions (sufferings, pain, hardships, trouble, etc…) of Joseph.

These are people who are self-absorbed. They are only thinking themselves. They are only thinking about their own luxuries and pleasures. They don’t care about those who are less fortunate or hurting because of afflictions in their lives. They do not grieve over or for them.

    LORD, Help Us!!
Help the Church (Us – the people in church) not to be at ease or so self-absorbed in our own luxuries and pleasures. Help us to realize and see that there is much WORK to be done for Your Kingdom. There are lost souls in our communities and city that we need to grieve over and pray for and reach with Your Gospel. There are lost souls who need to be saved.

CHURCH, The Time Is NOW To Be About Our FATHER”s Business!

  24. Pride and arrogance will lead you away from Jesus. We must be humble and thank Jesus for everything! All we have is from the Lord. Working just for money, things, you will be led away from the Lord. Too much time to earn and buy things, you take time from being with Jesus. Eventually, there will be no time for God. Do not let the enemy steal your love and time for God.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  25. 4-7
Chant to the sound of the viol……. like David
they displayed a genius and creativity similar to that of King David but with one great difference (Davids music was inspired by God and directed mans heart to praise him their music turned mens heart against God to their own lust

  26. “You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation. Therefore, you will be the first to be led away as captives. Suddenly, all your parties will end.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:6-7‬ ‭NLT‬‬

People don’t care how much you know until you show how much you care. How do we reach this city? By showing them how much we care. I pray we have a burden for this city and for reaching the lost. Thank you Jesus for using the Church to show love

  27. 4 That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

we can only enjoy life so much until God judges us so be faithful to God and pray every day

  28. Woe to you who are at ease in Zion: In her pride and indulgence, all Israel sought was ease. This indulgent lust for comfort and luxury is a sin, and God promised to judge Israel for it.

    i. The idea of rest isn’t all bad. Jesus wants to give us rest (Matthew 11:28-29). There is a rest waiting for the people of God (Hebrews 4:9-11). There is rest for us in heaven (Revelation 4:9-11). Then there is another kind of rest, a sinful kind of rest – connected to indifference, laziness, and indulgence.

Yet the prophet Amos spoke of “a carnal ease, a fleshly security, it is not the confidence of a man who is pardoned. Our rest is in Christ.

  29. Amos 6

“ye which rejoice in a thing of nought, which say, Have we not taken to us horns by our own strength?”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

It isn’t by our own strength or our own desire that we have victory. We are on Gods time frame and will. And he will get all the glory.

“And he said, This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry. But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.”
    ‭‭Luke‬ ‭12:18-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  30. 1 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

The Word warns against the church trusting in the things of this world. Many times we get into tight places and rather than trusting Jesus, asking His advice/ help, we try things “our way” which most times are built on the things of this world.

  31. 11 For, behold, the Lord commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.

God’s will always prevail. It shall perform whatever he sent it out to do. God’s word is powerful. It is what created the heaven and the earth. If we can focus on him, he will show us what way we need to go.

  32. “You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We need to be checking our actions, our decisions wether they are right in the Lords eyes or not. Yes we’re human we’re going to make mistakes but let us realize that, and that we need to go into prayer everyday asking forgiveness of your sins and just getting right with the Lord and get closer to him. We cannot push away our mistakes and pretend like no one saw or knows cause the Lord knows all and sees all, and there will come a day where you will be asked about it all. I pray we get right with the Lord now and follow his path and way. And go to the Lord before any your decisions and make sure it is the right.

  33. 14 But, behold, I will raise up against you a nation, O house of Israel, saith the Lordthe God of hosts; and they shall afflict you from the entering in of Hemath unto the river of the wilderness.

We are all one under His name. We must come in unit as a nation, and church to be who God wants us to be. We must always be in unity as we step forth into this sinful world. As a church if we do not corporate together, we will not make it very far. We must stick and stand together no matter what! I pray tonight that we are all working in unity for His kingdom!!!

  34. “You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There will come a time where we will all be judged . We can try and push away those things that we do that aren’t of god or the mistakes we make but we must realize that they are still there and we can’t just push them away. This is why we must repent daily for those things that we do because if not it is just piling up and one day we will be judged. Mistakes may be made but we must decide that we aren’t going to push away that mistake but we are going to come to god in repentance and turn away from the mistake made and not keep doing it over and over again because we are digging ourselves into a bigger hole

  35. “But go over to Calneh and see what happened there. Then go to the great city of Hamath and down to the Philistine city of Gath. You are no better than they were, and look at how they were destroyed.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭6:2‬ ‭NLT

As kings we are no better than sinners. The difference between a sinner and a child of God is the holiness. We are all sinners but understand and repent to the Lord. Spread the good news of God. Help someone become a child of God!

  36. You drink wine by the bowlful and perfume yourselves with fragrant lotions. You care nothing about the ruin of your nation.
    Amos 6:6 NLT

Where is your prayers being spent on? How is that time invested? Or do you leave time for the people of your city..your state or even the nation as we read here? Are you consumed with self or do you get to see the bigger picture and partner with God in prayer to cry out for the nation?

  37. Verse 3 NLT “You push away every thought of coming disaster, but your actions only bring the day of judgment closer.” You may try to justify your thoughts and your actions; but, God knows all things. He knows with what intent we do things and the reason behind it. Remember Amos 5:14 NLT “Do what is good and run from evil so that you may live! Then the Lord God of Heaven’s Armies will be your helper, just as you have claimed.”

  38. 6 Woe to you(A) who are complacent(B) in Zion,

It’s dangerous when you are in a position of being complacent because you are comfortable where you at and doing what you are doing. There’s always room to grow, room for God to use me, room to mature, room to develop . There is so much to do and so much to learn to be complacent. Let’s go out and tell others of what God has done in our lives. Live Give Jesus!
