Amos 8

Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord God: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.

Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,

Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?

The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.

  1. 7 The Lord hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.

8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

For all of this, the Lord will punish the land with fearful earthquakes. Darkness will cover the earth during the day, and mourning will visit every house. People will long to hear the word of the Lord, but it will be withheld from us.

    Psalm‬ ‭103:8‬ ‭
“The LORD is merciful and gracious, Slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”

  2. 5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?

This speaks of a time when the Lord’s patients is running out due to the complacency and disreguard for the Sabbath restrictions. Appearently the heart of the vendors were frustrated with the prohibition against selling on the Sabbath. When we comply to the ordainances of worship and have regret in our heart, the Lord will eventually render a day of reckoning, and our efforts will become futile.

  3. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

We need to hear from God. Whether it’s dark or light out there, evil or good going on, we need the word of God. The people of Israel had been so wicked and evil continually that God refused to even speak to them anymore. We can go for a while without food or water but we can’t be without the spirit or word of God.

  4. I love POFW! LIVEJESUSGIVEJESUS2 the end is near and God is preparing us. We need to study his word and have daily relations with him. Reaching the lost is crucial. Stop talking and do it!

  5. 8: 11 behold the days come saith the Lord God that
I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread nor a thirst for water but of hearing the words of the lord.
    ……
Wow!!! And this is what Deut.30:13,14 says
It is not on the other side of the sea, you don’t have to ask
“ who will go across the sea and get it?” Who will tell it to us
    So we can keep it?
No, the word of God is very near you, it is in your mouth
And in you your heart so you may obey it.

    Amen, hallelujah 🙌
Wow,,, what a tragedy is to take the word of God for granted, which is God himself.( Jesus the hope of glory)
In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God
    And the word was God.
Gods Holy Spirit in and with us….
Because it once was near to them and they took it for granted….
And because Jesus is the hope of glory this book does have a good ending….
    oh merciful God you are.
    🙏🙏🙏🙏🙌🙌🙌🙌
    No longer there…..

  6. Verses 11-12 AMP “Behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord God, “When I will send hunger over the land, Not hunger for bread or a thirst for water, But rather [a hunger] for hearing the words of the Lord. “People shall stagger from sea to sea [to the very ends of the earth] And from the north even to the east; They will roam here and there to seek the word of the Lord [longing for it as essential for life], But they will not find it.” We must heed the warnings and retain the words of the Lord in our heart. Deuteronomy 6:4-9 MSG says “Attention, Israel! God, our God! God the one and only! Love God, your God, with your whole heart: love him with all that’s in you, love him with all you’ve got! Write these commandments that I’ve given you today on your hearts. Get them inside of you and then get them inside your children. Talk about them wherever you are, sitting at home or walking in the street; talk about them from the time you get up in the morning to when you fall into bed at night. Tie them on your hands and foreheads as a reminder; inscribe them on the doorposts of your homes and on your city gates.”

  7. ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:11-12‬ ‭MSG‬‬
““Oh yes, Judgment Day is coming!” These are the words of my Master GOD. “I’ll send a famine through the whole country. It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word. People will drift from one end of the country to the other, roam to the north, wander to the east. They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone, hoping to hear GOD ’s Word—but they won’t hear it.

‭‭They would not take heed and return to God when famine of food and water came upon them. So now God will take His Word away.

    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭55:6-7‬ ‭NKJV
“Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, And the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, And He will have mercy on him; And to our God, For He will abundantly pardon.

‭‭Seek the Lord while He can be found. Life is not worth living without the Word of God in it.

  8. Joshua 24:15 15 And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

It is that simple CHOOSE!!!! You can’t serve two masters at the same time for one will always come out losing. There is a time in life where you must decide and be accountable for your decision. As the time of Jesus return gets closer life seems to just keep tolerating sin. Well, sin should never be tolerated for once we start we begin to spin out of control into the chaos we ourselves have created with no hope of life. So choose today whom you will serve; for as for me and my house we will. Serve THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!!!!

  9. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

What a tragedy to not hear the Word of the Lord. I am glad to say we have the freedom to still hear, know, and follow His Word. But there will also come a day when the physical Word of God may not be available to us and we must be prepared by hiding His Word in our hearts.

  10. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

There is coming a day where the word of God will be silent. There is coming a day where a famine of the spirit will be over the land and many will try to find it but will not. There is coming a day where many will hunger just for a taste of the word of God but will not. The Lord warns not only Israel but through Amos I believe that the prophecy of a time coming in our time that will be fulfilled and we will hunger for the opportunity to hear great preaching but the preachers will be silent.

We can no longer take for granted the opportunity that we have to go to church but we do not. We have the opportunity to worship the Lord but we do not. We can not take for granted the mercy and grace of God that is a fresh every morning. There is coming a time where we will no longer feel the presence of God. This will be a time where hopefully the church will be called home and those that are left behind will be those that had rejected the spirit of God. Oh God wake us up this morning and let us rejoice that you are our God and we are your people. You deserve all the praise we can muster up and worship you.

  11. Amos 8:2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

Ezekiel 7:2 Also, thou son of man, thus saith the Lord God unto the land of Israel; An end, the end is come upon the four corners of the land.

    God will judge

  12. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

They left off seeking God and his word and turned to gain riches instead. We can’t serve 2 masters -we must choose God. His word guides and leads us or else we are blind and will fall. It must be the start of each day and be in our hearts. Seek him while he can be found and follow Him only so we can can be saved.

  13. Amos 8
11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Do not change yourselves to be like the people of this world, but be changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you will be able to decide what God wants for you; you will know what is good and pleasing to him and what is perfect. Romans 12:2

We all have a choice! Be with God or go into the world.

  14. ““What do you see, Amos?” he asked. I replied, “A basket full of ripe fruit.” Then the Lord said, “Like this fruit, Israel is ripe for punishment! I will not delay their punishment again. In that day the singing in the temple will turn to wailing. Dead bodies will be scattered everywhere. They will be carried out of the city in silence. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!””
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:2-3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s words like this that throw wood on the fire of revival. We look around and we see all these people that are lost and partying and seem to be having a good time. They look content with their lives and for the moment maybe they really are but deep down they’re in so much pain and they’re trying their best to hide that pain with the things they’re putting in their bodies. Those that choose to stay in sin will be cut down. All you can do is extend the hand of opportunity for them to give all their problems to Jesus. We are that hand. We are that voice of the Gospel…let’s go in Jesus name

  15. Amos 8: 1-2 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me; and behold a basket of summer fruit
    (2) And he said, Amos what seest thou? And I said a basket of summer fruit. The end is come upon my people of Israel ; I will not again pass by them any more.
This was a vision of a basket of summer produce which was ripe and would soon ruin.
This symbolized the immediacy of the end and ruin of Israel.
    Seek Jesus while you can!
He going to judge us due to diobeince and failure to heed God’s warnings.
God loves us and he wants us save.

  16. Amos 8:11-12
[11]“The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water, but of hearing the words of the lord.

[12]People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the lord, but they will not find it.

Famine of the word of God is, the sorest famine — the heaviest judgment. We need to listen to what the Lord’s prophets speak.
Not being able to hear the words of the Lord; the word of prophecy, and the preaching of the word, or explaining the Scriptures would be devastating.

    Acts of the Apostles 2:38
Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

  17. I’ll send a famine through the whole country.
It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word.
People will drift from one end of the country to the other,
roam to the north, wander to the east.
They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone,
hoping to hear God’s Word—but they won’t hear it.

The time is now to know the Word!
The time is now to share the Word!
Truth must be proclaimed in Jesus name .

  18. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭KJV

GOD have mercy upon your creation. These are the times we’re leaving now. People don’t want to hear sound doctrine. They’re rejecting truth around us living according to their own desires. We must continue to reach for the burdened , lost, and bound by sin.
Jesus that your Holy Spirit will continue to lead me in your truth that is a path of righteousness.

“Blessed are the undefiled in the way, Who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, And that seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: They walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded us To keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed To keep thy statutes! Then shall I not be ashamed, When I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, When I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed thereto according to thy word. With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in mine heart, That I might not sin against thee. Blessed art thou, O LORD: Teach me thy statutes. With my lips have I declared All the judgments of thy mouth. I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, As much as in all riches. I will meditate in thy precepts, And have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word. Deal bountifully with thy servant, That I may live, and keep thy word. Open thou mine eyes, That I may behold wondrous things out of thy law. I am a stranger in the earth: Hide not thy commandments from me.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119:1-19‬ ‭KJV

  19. vs-6
That we may buy the poor for silver and the needy for a pair of shoes yea and seii the refuse of the wheat.
Because the poor are socially powerless it is easier to defraud them than others. Typically prices for food in poor sections in our own cities are much higher than in more suburbs and rental is high for poorly maintained living space. Not every building owner is a slumlord not every market intent on fraud. But there clearly is to much skimping the masure boosting the price and cheating with dishonest scales.

  20. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
“Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD”

Wow…folks need to get fat while they can cause famine is coming. Hum….I am thinking about blogging three times a day so I get fat like a hibernating bear getting ready for the winter…Whew, the Word of God is powerful and I’m thankful that here at the POFW we have a pastor who makes every attempt at feeding the sheep through blogging every day.

  21. Amos 8:11-12
    11) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
    12) And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.

If there is a famine in our land (our heart) of the Words of the Lord, then it’s our own fault, because we have every opportunity right now to Hear It, Read It, Study It, Memorize It, and Hide It in our hearts.

Jeremiah 15:16 says, “Thy Words were found, and I did eat them; and thy Word was unto me the Joy and Rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.”
We need to Eat His Word EVERYDAY!! His Word is spirit and life to us. (St. John 6:63).

  22. MSG 11-12 “Oh yes, Judgment Day is coming!”
These are the words of my Master God.
“I’ll send a famine through the whole country.
It won’t be food or water that’s lacking, but my Word.
People will drift from one end of the country to the other,
roam to the north, wander to the east.
They’ll go anywhere, listen to anyone,
hoping to hear God’s Word—but they won’t hear it.

Some people struggle now with reading God’s word every day, letting it penetrate their heart so that they might glean wisdom from it. But according to this word, there is coming a time that people are going to be searching to just hear the Word of God from someone because there will be a time when the Word of God will be taken away from us.

They say you never know how much you are blessed with a specific thing until it’s gone and you can no longer see it, or hear it. That is how I imagine we will feel when the Word goes silent in our lives and we will have to rely on what we have committed to heart.

  23. LIVE – GIVE JESUS2
    LOVE THE WORD OF GOD

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:
12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

The greatest challenge of our generation is not political, financial or social. The greatest challenge to our generation is spiritual, in fact ro be specific it is BIBLICAL. There is an absence of a Love for the WORD of GOD. I have the facts to prove it. In a church of 400 people, we present an opportunity for everyone to read 1 ONE chapter in the BIBLE everyday and share what JESUS spoke to you. At The POFW only about 10% of the 400 participate daily.

This is the result for a powerful Apostolic Pentecostal church. It appears to me that a message is being sent to JESUS and the devil. There is a fragment of people in the church that LOVE THE WORD OF GOD. Those things or people we LOVE we hold dear and close to our hearts. When poeple LOVE THE WORD OF GOD we invest time, talent and treasure in what we LOVE.

History has suggested that verses 11 and 12 occurred for 400 years in a season between the Old and New Testaments.

Malachi 4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.
5 Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD:
    6 And he shall turn the heart of the fathers to the children, and the heart of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the earth with a curse. {THE END OF THE PROPHETS.}

I do not dispute this, but I also believe that it is happening again right before our eyes. We must RESPOND NOW by fostering, developing or growing to LOVE THE WORD OF GOD. Here are some scriptures to assist us with our effort:

KNOW GOD – John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

    The WORD is GOD!

To KNOW GOD, I must KNOW the WORD of GOD, to LOVE GOD, I must LOVE the WORD of GOD.

The psalmist gives us some insight into how we find or awaken our LOVE for the WORD of GOD.

Psalm 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Psalm 119:16 I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
Psalm 119:18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
Psalm 119:29 Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.
Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
Psalm 119:44 So shall I keep thy law continually for ever and ever.
Psalm 119:97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
Psalm 119:109 My soul is continually in my hand: yet do I not forget thy law.
Psalm 119:114 Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
Psalm 119:116 Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.
Psalm 119:133 Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
Psalm 119:140 Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
Psalm 119:165 Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
Psalm 119:174 I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.

    The prophet Jeremiah says:

Jeremiah 15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.

The WORD of GOD is my daily instructions and directions for my life.

Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

My prayer is that today we will have such a LOVE for the WORD of GOD that it will be impossible to find ourselves in the dire situation described above a famine of the WORD of GOD. I choose to EAT HIS BOOK daily so that I am FULL of the WORD of GOD.

  24. 9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord God, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:

10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

  25. ““The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God promised a famine of His Words. I equivalate this to when God through Moses put a darkness over Egypt that could be felt. I had to ask Him for forgiveness if I had ever taken hearing His voice for granted. I thank God He is the Word. I thank God He is alive and we can talk to Him each and every day. And I pray we do just that.

  26. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.

Church service after church service never willing to agree with the Word of the Lord. Preachers, teachers, and saints faithfully and fervently giving you the Word and it seems like your not willing to listen. This is a famine! I have often read scriptures such as this and thought oh I would have hated to live through this yet in the time of our lives that we fail to listen to the preached word or even the word spoken by a trusted friend we are putting ourselves willingly into this position. God doesn’t have to send a famine when we are fasting from the Word of God.

God is always speaking to us and we must learn to push our will and feelings to the side and listen and obey!

Lord, forgive me for not holding the moments that Your Word was presented to me close to my heart! Forgive me for my lack of reverence and love for your Word. Help me to move forward from this moment to except your word in every season of my life!

  27. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

We must be careful else we experience a famine of the words of the Lord. Sin will cause you to not hear what would have you to know. God will be trying to speak with you, but because of sin you will not be able to hear him. Sin distracts us from the mission God has us on. However, God gives us strength to make it through the things the enemy throws our way. We have the ability to be great we would just hearken unto the voice of the Lord.

  28. vss. 11-12

I reminded of an old hymn
” Better read it ( His Word ) for yourself don’t depend on rock of ages “

  29. 12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

We must always seek after His word. We must never give up on trying to find it! I hope that you are following and always seeking after His word! I pray tonight that His word will forever burn in all of our hearts!!!

  30. “The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord. People will stagger from sea to sea and wander from border to border searching for the word of the Lord, but they will not find it.
    Amos 8:11‭-‬12 NLT

Every day we are presented with a choice. Our daily lives and routine is filled with choices. The first and foremost do we do the will of God or mine? And the day goes on. Every day we have the opportunity to open the scriptures, to spend some time in prayer, worship God, the One that fill us with benefits daily. We have a choice. Now is the time of salvation. Tomorrow? We are not guaranteed tomorrow. The apostle Paul puts it this way:

We then, as workers together with Him also plead with you not to receive the grace of God in vain. For He says: “In an acceptable time I have heard you, And in the day of salvation I have helped you.” Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
    II Corinthians 6:1‭-‬2 NKJV

What can be of tomorrow and what will it offer. What it this Word is removed from us? What if we are no longer allowed to own a bible? How then will the Holy Spirit remind you of all things especially the Word if you never even looked at it once. It is a scary thought to be in a famine for the Word. We simple cannot live without it. You may think you can but God is the very essence that hold all things together. He is is the very Word that is alive.

Everyday while we still have the choice the balance is there. Entertainment? Or the Word. The game? Or the Word? Partying, going out, having fun? Or the Word? Remember only one is eternal. Only one enriches you truly, only one really fills your very inner man, soul satisfying. Only one really fulfills. In his presence there is fulness of joy. At His right hand pleasures forevermore.

Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.
    Isaiah 55:6 NKJV

  31. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

With The Word is bread, the Holy Ghost is a living water, and a famine of them, but even worse, a famine of hearing the words of The Lord…

  32. “And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

A warning of the end. I can’t help but thing with all that’s going on in the world that The End is near.

“But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer.”
    ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭4:7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  33. 8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

The Lord is showing Amos that even though the Israelites don’t see or hear his works. They are fixing to witness the miraculous. In fact the current generation had never seen a miracle like their elders. All because of a period of silence from the Lord nor did He raise prophets from Israel. Their was a lesson to be taught to both nations. Each plague wounded Egypt deeply. When God heard the cries of his people and was willing to accept their repentance. This would lead to a balancing of the scales.

  34. “And those who swear by the shameful idols of Samaria— who take oaths in the name of the god of Dan and make vows in the name of the god of Beersheba — they will all fall down, never to rise again.””
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We should never worship false idols. The Lord will put you down along with your idol. Know the truth, spread the truth, stand with the truth.

  35. ““The time is surely coming,” says the Sovereign Lord, “when I will send a famine on the land— not a famine of bread or water but of hearing the words of the Lord.”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What will happen when Jesus stops talking? Will we have the faith to stand? Will we be able to continue to read and worship? This is why we must have a relationship with the lord. If we walk with him daily, then our faith should stand when Jesus is silent.

  36. 1 Thus hath the Lord God shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.

2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the Lord unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.

  37. Has this Famine come?

11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

I hear our Pastor pleading with the congregation over and over again to just read the word of God. He almost begs of us to get into the word. There is a day coming when the Bible will be taken from us and only the word that we have hid in our hearts will remain. We must get the word in us while it remains. Has this famine come already? Or are we just being spiritually lazy?

  38. 11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:

Amen! That day is nearer and nearer. I pray for the people to turn to Him. It’s not time to be playing around but to lean unto Him and not to anyone or anything else. He is the only one that we can trust and believe in. Let’s open our eyes, our ears and listen to His voice. Who does He want us to reach, to love, to teach, to pull out of the pits of hell? Our time is NOW to teach this world in Jesus Name!

  39. “In that day the singing in the temple will turn to wailing. Dead bodies will be scattered everywhere. They will be carried out of the city in silence. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!” Listen to this, you who rob the poor and trample down the needy!”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:3-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬
This is just one of the sins they committed, that brought them to this judgment. This sin was a direct disobedience of God’s Word, which taught to help the poor.

  40. 7Now the LORD has sworn this oath by his own name, the Pride of Israel. “I will never forget the wicked things you have done!

Yes, you and I may forget things, but God will never forget. He’s sees the good and the bad we have all committed. You’ll either be punished or rewarded for your deeds. Let’s all do good, and be blessed.

  41. “Behold, the days come, saith the Lord God, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the Lord:”
    ‭‭Amos‬ ‭8:11‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The lord is coming back soon and very soon for his bride. We must ensure that we are ready when he returns. When he comes he is not coming with anything to give but he is coming to take his church but are you ready. We must make sure we repent daily and make sure we are always ready for we never know the day or time when he will call our name or when he will return. We must also reach the lost and reach them the way to Christ because if we don’t teach them they will remain lost souls and he doesn’t want us lost but he wants everyone saved.

  42. 8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.

If you heard these words would you not, “. . . tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; . . .” I know I would tremble and mourn with this prophecy as it is very frightening, “. . . I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning. . .”

12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the Lord, and shall not find it.

Lost. They would be lost after experiencing such circumstances. I pray we not have to live this passage.
