Isaiah 23

The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished.

And by great waters the seed of Sihor, the harvest of the river, is her revenue; and she is a mart of nations.

Be thou ashamed, O Zidon: for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young men, nor bring up virgins.

As at the report concerning Egypt, so shall they be sorely pained at the report of Tyre.

Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.

Is this your joyous city, whose antiquity is of ancient days? her own feet shall carry her afar off to sojourn.

Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?

The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.

11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the Lord hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

12 And he said, Thou shalt no more rejoice, O thou oppressed virgin, daughter of Zidon: arise, pass over to Chittim; there also shalt thou have no rest.

13 Behold the land of the Chaldeans; this people was not, till the Assyrian founded it for them that dwell in the wilderness: they set up the towers thereof, they raised up the palaces thereof; and he brought it to ruin.

14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.

16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the Lord will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.

18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

  1. Isaiah 23:9
The lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.

Sinful pride is refusing to recognize God’s sovereign role in everything. “Good pride” is recognizing that apart from God, you can do nothing (John 15:5), and, therefore, giving God the glory for the things you accomplish. Anything that dethrones God from your heart is deadly. Anything that makes us sit on the throne of our hearts is definitely an issue. Everything we have, we have received from God. Therefore, we should not act as if we have accomplished anything on our own. It is not wrong to feel good about something you have accomplished as long as you recognize, and admit, that you could not have done so without him. We need to make it a goal to live for Christ every day. The Bible says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (1 Peter 5:5). Humility comes when we internalize the truth that nothing in the life of a Christian is to be about us.
It is all about Jesus Christ and Him only. Here are four reminders to help you eliminate pride:

    1. But he gives more grace. Therefore, it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble” (James 4:6).

    2. Pride comes before destruction, and an arrogant spirit before a fall. Better to be lowly of spirit with the humble than to divide plunder with the proud (Proverbs 16:18-19).

    3. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and the one who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 14:11).

    4. And all of you clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that He may lift you up at the proper time, casting all your care on Him, because He cares about you (1 Peter 5:5-7).

  2. 11 The Lord held out his hand over the sea and shook the kingdoms of the earth. He has spoken out against Phoenicia, ordering that her fortresses be destroyed.

Lord, I praise You for You are Mighty in Heaven and Mighty on earth. You are exalted high above the heavens! I thank You God. This world needs a shaking today. We need to see that our life is fragile and You are in control. So many are lost in their own ways God. We need You to show Yourself in their lives today so they know how fragile life is and how absolute eternity is so they can be brought to the plan of Your salvation for their lives.

  3. Verse 9 MSG “God-of-the-Angel-Armies ordered the crash to show the sordid backside of pride and puncture the inflated reputations.” Same verse NIV “The Lord Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth.”

James 4:6 AMP says “But He gives us more and more grace [through the power of the Holy Spirit to defy sin and live an obedient life that reflects both our faith and our gratitude for our salvation]. Therefore, it says, “God is opposed to the proud and haughty, but [continually] gives [the gift of] grace to the humble [who turn away from self-righteousness].”

1 Peter 5:5 AMP also says “Likewise, you younger men [of lesser rank and experience], be subject to your elders [seek their counsel]; and all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another [tie on the servant’s apron], for God is opposed to the proud [the disdainful, the presumptuous, and He defeats them], but He gives grace to the humble.”

  4. 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

All throughout scripture you can find that even in the more troubling times when the Lord is dealing with people and there is punishment he spares those that are faithful to him. Time and time again God has shown us that even in his wrath his grace is shown as well as his favor over those that remain with Him

  5. 17. When 70 years have passed, the Eternal will visit Tyre, and she’ll return to her wicked ways-selling herself to all the countries of the world.

    18. But everything Tyre earns-her profit, her goods-won’t be stored or saved: all will be devoted to the Eternal; her stocks will supply all the food and fine clothing needed by those who serve in the presence of the Eternal One. Voice

    Proverbs 13:
    22. A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just. KJV

  6. 9 “The Lord of hosts has purposed it, To bring to dishonor the pride of all glory, To bring into contempt all the honorable of the earth.”
    ‭‭
God will do what ever is necessary to humble us. To bring us back to Him. He alone is worthy of all our praise.
    ‭‭

  7. 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

Any success and prosperity we have is given to us from the Lord. The Lord appears to often remove our ability to remain successful when He inflicts His judgement.

  8. “The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Tyre a wealthiest city in Lebanon comes to ruin. No matter how wealthy a city becomes in a nation, one mustn’t depend on it. I feel that is exactly what some people are dependent on in our nation. It seems that handout on stimulus checks, SNAP (EBT)), extra money given in unemployment, etc. because the list will go on! But all of this is paralyzing a nation to be dependent on wealth and not depending on THE LORD GOD who created it all. The word of The LORD JESUS asks a good question for all.
‘What profit a man if he gains the whole world and lose his his soul?’ Wealth is only for a moment, while eternity is forever. Will it be worth it to lose your soul as you waste your time chasing the wind for riches?

Again The word of The Lord says:

“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”
    ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭6:24-25‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  9. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    STAINED PRIDE

9 The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

Pride is the root of all sin. Every sin committed is from the will of the flesh and not the will of GOD. Pride is protected through, lies, deception, false promises and any other form of communication that protects the image of an individual or business.

Pride will go to any point to itself spotless and not stained. Pride never accepts responsibly, shoulders blame or confesses faults. Pride touts tasks and accomplishments BUT most importantly Pride precedes DESTRUCTION.

GOD chose to stain their pride.

Think about that just a second, what if we choose to stain our pride with the Blood of JESUS. We surely could avoid some perils and hardships. If we ran every choice and decision through JESUS.

  10. 6Send word now to Tarshish!
Wail, you people who live in distant lands!

Send the Word now to Ft Worth, Tarrant County, and our neighborhoods. Many have heard the Word, but need to know and understand the Word. Let’s teach the Word and reach those who are seeking the Word.

  11. Isaiah 23
    Wail, ships of Tarshish,
your strong seaports all in ruins!

The Message translation depicts a picture of a harlot who soon will be forgotten . God so many have been strong at one time even bringing in many lost souls yet they have went after the ways of the world. How sad to become so desolate and then forgotten .
Today I pray for myself to continue to lift up You and your kingdom . I pray for those who have prospered spiritually at one time yet have went whoring after the things of the world . The Seaport We the Church must stay strong . We must birth children . We cannot entertain the ways of the world . Oh God my soul aches for the many who have lost their way .
I pray fir each individual who are reaching throughout this city . Pastor spoke it last night We must reach the lost . What am I truly doing to do it ?
Daily I want to Give and Live Jesus

  12. 17 And it shall come to pass after the end of seventy years, that the Lord will visit Tyre, and she shall turn to her hire, and shall commit fornication with all the kingdoms of the world upon the face of the earth.

18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

Even in God’s disgust against Israel not turning back to Him, He still makes a promise of provision. I’m sure God gets sick of our puny excuses why we can’t sell out to Him and live for Him the way He desires. Yet He continually loves and reaches for us. I don’t want to be like Israel and throw God’s grace and mercy back in His face. I want my life to be pleasing to Him in all that I say or do.

  13. 8 Who hath taken this counsel against Tyre, the crowning city, whose merchants are princes, whose traffickers are the honourable of the earth?

9 The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

God brings punishment upon pride because pride lifts self up instead of our Creator. We serve a jealous God who desires our praise and worship. Lift Him up!

  14. 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.

As the prophet Isaiah is recording the words of the Lord, he makes it very evident that a span of one generation is all it takes to let a city or people be engrossed in a wickedness that will cause a destruction to what it once was. The morals and standards are completely gone. As the scripture states Tyre will sing as a harlot. As we are seeing the generations of today’s Christians, we find that many are going away from what they were raised in. Many are turning away from what their fathers, grandfathers, and men before them have taught especially in the apostolic church. We are seeing mighty men and women of God being transformed by the woos of the world.

It’s time to break the curses of the world and allow Gid to be center of our life. We can be strong enough to take a stand against the world’s views and let God be God. Don’t be the one that walks away from the word and way of God. The Lord will order your steps if you let him. It’s time to depend on Him and not the world.

  15. Isaiah 23: 15-16 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an charlot.
    16) Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.
Sing and praise the Lord with all your heart and soul.
Jesus you are all we need.

  16. 9 The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.

When there is pride then comes destruction. God wants all of us to turn to him in every obstacle we face because only he can give us victory.
    Thank You Jesus!

  17. 11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the Lord hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

  18. 15 And it shall come to pass in that day, that Tyre shall be forgotten seventy years, according to the days of one king: after the end of seventy years shall Tyre sing as an harlot.

This scripture reminds me of the one in Exodus. Israel was captive 430 years. 30 years longer than what God had spoken.

They had to be made uncomfortable in there captivity. We are blessed no matter what season of life we go through. The problem is when God wants to take us out the next level, we’ve grown too comfortable God was to afflict us to get us to move.

  19. “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Sometimes we put the sin of pride on the back burner to focus on what we can see – addiction, fornication, etc. But when pride has taken root in our hearts, it becomes very dangerous rather quickly. It is our job to continually check our heart for the presence of pride because it isn’t always manifested on the outside in which people can warn us. When we start to replace God with our own ideals, we step into deceit.

“The prudent understand where they are going, but fools deceive themselves.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭14:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  21. 9 The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

There is none greater than our God, no not one. Many will try to put others in the same place as our God, but he reigns supremo alone. Our God is stronger than any other. By his power, all things are possible.

  22. The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

  23. 9 the lord of hosts hath purposed this
To stain the pride of all glory and to bring unto contempt
All the honorable of the earth.

9The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it
    to destroy your pride
and bring low all earth’s nobility.

The Lord really hates pride. Judgement comes because of pride. Todays culture has really attempted to act like pride is good… Sorry y’all, pride will never be good!

  25. 18 And her merchandise and her hire shall be holiness to the Lord: it shall not be treasured nor laid up; for her merchandise shall be for them that dwell before the Lord, to eat sufficiently, and for durable clothing.

The Lord is pleased when we do his will.

  26. 23:1-16 “Cross Over”
Tyre and Sidon were twin Phoenician centers, ports planted on the Mediterranean coast just north of Israel. The Phoenicians had colonies throughout the Mediterranean and many commercial ties with Egypt. This roused the suspensions of Assyria and led to a temporary destruction of the ports. The people fled and “crossed over” their colonies or trading partners.

  27. Isaiah 23:4
” Be thou ashamed, O Zidon; for the sea hath spoken, even the strength of the sea, saying, I travail not, nor bring forth children, neither do I nourish up young me, nor bring up maidens.”

Lord help us to travail over lost souls. Help us to bring forth children – nourish up young men – and bring up maidens.

  28. 23:1-16 “Cross over”
Tyre and Sidon were twin phoenician centers ports planted on the Mediterranean coast just north of Israel. The phoenicians had colonies throughout the Mediterranean and many commercial ties with Egypt. This roused the suspension of Assyria and led to a temporary destruction of the ports. The people fled and crossed over their colonies or trading partners.

  29. “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Selfishness and pride will never be allowed into the kingdom of the Lord. There will never be anyone greater than the Lord, for he is the king of kings and lord of lords. Putting yourself or someone in the highest place higher than God in your life will bring you no good. I pray tonight that we check where we have placed God in our lives daily that we check our hearts make sure we ask the Lord to get rid of anything that is of sin. When God is the center of your life, what a wonderful blessed life God will bring to you, have faith and trust in him at all times for he is good!

  30. 16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

Your voice. Your voice should be used for His kingdom for the good, never bad. Sometimes we make mistakes and we don’t realize that our voices are always import. This scenario always reminds me of the little mermaid movie. Ariel gave up her voice this is wrong cause he voice was beautiful. I pray that your voice is always being used for the good of His kingdom!!!

  31. “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.”
    Isaiah 23:9 NLT

The Lord is bringing judgment to destroy the prideful heart of tyre and all its nobility. Let God examine your heart and let Him destroy all things sinful nature, and that we are lead to repentance because God doesn’t want us to perish but to be with Him for eternity. Let us surrender to God and let His will be done in our lives and He will transform us and renew us.

  32. “Yes, after seventy years the Lord will revive Tyre. But she will be no different than she was before. She will again be a prostitute to all kingdoms around the world.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We can’t be a tyre. We must change are ways because of his mercy and love. Being a tyre is becoming your old sinful self, be strong though temptations you must not fall in sin again. Pick yourself up and desire change.

  33. 1 The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

Isaiah is a prophet and is telling of the distraction of Tyre. Tyre’s pride and sin cause them to be on the wrong side of the tracks with God.

  34. 9 The Lord Almighty planned it, to bring down her pride in all her splendor and to humble all who are renowned on the earth. (NIV)

Our pride will have us making our own plans but the only plan that will actually happen it the plan of the Lord’s. We must remember to always consult him first or his plans will included bringing us back down.

  35. Who has brought this disaster on Tyre, that great creator of kingdoms? Her traders were all princes, her merchants were nobles. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.
    Isaiah 23:8‭-‬9 NLT

The Lord is the one that puts up someone or brings him low. He knows just exactly how to humble someone or promote.

  36. 14 Howl, ye ships of Tarshish: for your strength is laid waste.

    Psalms 46:1
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

When I read verse 14 I thought about how God has given us strength in our lives, and how often do we worry about things around us and waste the strength he has given us. God never let me waste the strength you have given me ever again and lose out with you.

  37. Isaiah 29

9 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.

Being full of pride and worshipping idols has brought disaster on Tyre and others. People become so full of themselves that they are blinded to the truth. This is the downfall even today of many people.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  38. This chapter gives a lesson on what happens when you don’t give God the glory for your success. There had it going on. Everything that Tyre touched turned to gold. Tyre’s ports and merchants of it ruled the cities all around but God let it come to desolation because no one would give him the glory for the blessings. The people of Tyre’s pride lead them to lose everything. How sad is it that we can’t see past our own pride and we could of had everything ? All God wants is for us to be thankful for his blessing and give him the glory.

  39. Proverbs 27 Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring.

This is so true. I reckon I was boasting that lil buddy and I were going to climb a mountain for vacation. Well, lil buddy broke his wrist yesterday and so that boasting didn’t amount to much.

  40. “The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:9‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Pride will no get you anywhere. The lord does not like pride. It is not of him to be proud. We must examine ourselves and make sure we aren’t developing a prideful spirit. You can’t be in the kingdom of god with a proud spirit to where you can’t be told anything by anyone. You don’t want to be in that position where you get knocked down by god because of pride. Just don’t have it. Pride is not worth your soul. Pride isn’t worth the destruction it causes.

  41. 16 Take an harp, go about the city, thou harlot that hast been forgotten; make sweet melody, sing many songs, that thou mayest be remembered.

Go sing unto the Lord a song of rejoicing!! Your past has been forgotten! When you repented, He forgot your past and moved on!! If He moved past our past then we should, too!! Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” No matter what the past holds, no matter our background, no matter our baggage. . . He forgot!! So, let’s sing unto Him a grateful and uplifting song all day, every day!!

  42. 9 The Lord of hosts hath purposed it, to stain the pride of all glory, and to bring into contempt all the honourable of the earth.

10 Pass through thy land as a river, O daughter of Tarshish: there is no more strength.

11 He stretched out his hand over the sea, he shook the kingdoms: the Lord hath given a commandment against the merchant city, to destroy the strong holds thereof.

  43. “But in the end her profits will be given to the Lord. Her wealth will not be hoarded but will provide good food and fine clothing for the Lord’s priests.”
    ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭23:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

What the enemy meant for evil the Lord took it used it for good God does that in so many peoples lives today. People used to go so hard and live for the devil like it was going out of style. The Lord takes those people strategically at the right time and fills them with his Spirit and uses them as an example, but he can change anyone and anything for the purpose of the kingdom of God!

  44. The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has done it to destroy your pride and bring low all earth’s nobility.
    Isaiah 23:9 NLT

Pride will lead to destruction. God’s Kingdom will always prevail. We need to make sure we are on His winning side!

  45. Isaiah 23:9-10 Voice
[9] The Eternal, Commander of heavenly armies, has determined, Tyre should be destroyed, wrecked, and disgraced To spoil the foolish arrogance of all glory and to show how insignificant earthly honors are. [10] People of Tarshish, you should traverse your land as if it were the Nile. With Tyre out of the way, there’s nothing to stop you anymore.

Even though they were honorable men, they were filled up with pride. Their pride was offensive to God, because they did not give God any of the credit for their successes. They were puffed up with self pride.
