Hosea 8

Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.

Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

Israel is swallowed up: now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.

For they are gone up to Assyria, a wild ass alone by himself: Ephraim hath hired lovers.

10 Yea, though they have hired among the nations, now will I gather them, and they shall sorrow a little for the burden of the king of princes.

11 Because Ephraim hath made many altars to sin, altars shall be unto him to sin.

12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lordaccepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

  1. 12 I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.

Eating dinner with my family one night we started talking about how many scriptures we could think of about a certain subject. Ed would name all we could think of them we would move on to a new subject. We had some guests at our house that night and they were looking at us super crazy , like it was strange that we were quoting the Bible and having fun with it.I couldn’t help but think I’m that moment that the enemies greatest deception n mans mind is that it is a strange thing to live for God, they it is strange to know his word. It is deception at its greatest victory to keep us from the word of God.

  2. 14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

It’s better not to see and be in God wrath it’s better to fully give him all of our heart and grow with him.

  3. 4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

5 Thy calf, O Samaria, hath cast thee off; mine anger is kindled against them: how long will it be ere they attain to innocency?

6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

The division of the kingdom into Israel and Judah was without His approval. Their idolatry caused God’s Andre to burn. God asks,” How long until they attain to innocence?” Or in modern terms, “When will they ever learn?”

  4. “I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Many believe that they can take GOD off their shelf only when needed or in case of an emergency. When the LORD JESUS CHRIST filled you with The HOLY GHOST it was and is for a purpose. Again we go back to building a beautiful daily relationship with Jesus.
Don’t forget who HE is in your life. For HE ISthe lover of thy soul.

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.”
    ‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:4-5, 7‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Repentance will always bring you home.

  5. Verse 1 AMP “Set the trumpet to your lips [announcing impending judgment]! Like a [great] vulture the enemy comes against the house of the Lord, Because they have broken My covenant And transgressed and rebelled against My law.” We must heed the warnings and NOT get snatched by the enemy. When you try and dance around with sin or keep going back to it, you are announcing the impending judgment that is to come. Romans 6:22-23 MSG says “But now that you’ve found you don’t have to listen to sin tell you what to do, and have discovered the delight of listening to God telling you, what a surprise! A whole, healed, put-together life right now, with more and more of life on the way! Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.”

  6. 6 For from Israel was it also: the workman made it; therefore it is not God: but the calf of Samaria shall be broken in pieces.

7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

When you have taken up strange things and strange ideologies, you will be come as the seed that will not settle to the ground. You will simply be dispersed because of no root system and you will go from place to place which ever the wind blows. The scripture states that a double minded man is unstable in all his ways. It is not good to try to live worldly and spiritually at the same time. We find that if God is not involved in your life, you will not settle on a solid foundation. You will be like the man whom build his house upon the sand, here today gone tomorrow. It’s time for the church to plant its foundation upon the solid rock Jesus and become a refuge for those that need saving. It may be that we need to save ourselves first and become reestablished in the doctrine and ways of God’s commandments. Be a solid witness and light in a dark chaotic world. Remember if God be for you then who can be against you.

  7. 1. Eternal One: Blow the ram’s horn to sound the alarm! The eagle of Assyria is hovering above My house, Waiting for My instruction to snatch its prey, because they’ve broken My covenant and rebelled against My law.

    3. Israel has rejected what is good; that is why an enemy will pursue him.

    6. This idol is from Israel. A craftsman made it; it’s not God! Samaria’s calf will be smashed to pieces. Voice

Stay away from idols; the closer you are to them, or the more time you spend with them, the more likely you are to be caught in God’s anger and destruction of them.

  8. 14 . Fort Israel hath forgotten his Maker
And buildeth temples and Judah hath multiply
    Fenced cities
But I will send a fire upon his cities and it shall
    Devour the places thereof.

    For Israel hath forgotten…
Stopped committing their way to the lord
Stop saying: not my will but yours or
    Have it your way.
Started to give glory to other things instead to God.
It’s no longer Gods throne. But others thing has taken place in the heart instead of God.
Well, we seen that the end of these decisions
And not doing anything about itWill bring consequences.
    In no time, suddenly.
Because God has been forgotten and replaced.
    🙏

  9. 7 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind: it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal: if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.

When people seek their own path in life, God will not be mocked and He will render judgement upon their rebellion.

  10. 14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

One of the most dangerous things you can never do in your walk with God is to forget where you came from and who is the source of life. As soon as you begin relying on your own strength and depend on your own abilities or even someone else’s things start to spiral downwards. What we read in Hosea is the example of just that.

  11. In today’s reading we learn what happens when we are fixated on idols. Sometimes we only think of some big animal or statue as an idol. It is not always a big “Buddah” or of that nature. It can be whatever separates you from our almighty God being the center of our life. “You are my rock oh Lord you are my fortress”. …”in you will I trust”. I bless your name and please continue to be my fortress! I love POFW LIVEJESUSGIVEJESUS2

  12. These people have been so content with their routine and their “going through the motions church” that God no longer sees it as a sacrifice. But as a job that they have to do.

This is what happen when we get stale and just go to church to get it over with. The Lord no longer accepts these efforts and sacrifice.

Stay ablaze for the King of kings. Be excited for the things that are happening next.

“The people love to offer sacrifices to me, feasting on the meat, but I do not accept their sacrifices. I will hold my people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. They will return to Egypt.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

  13. Many times Israel fell under pressure but they always looked up and cried up to the Lord in repentance; not this time. Donkeys have always been trained to help carry loads, do work, or for transportation. God compares them to a wild donkey, good for nothing, stubborn, untrainable, a waste, and unable to give any fruit (as of work).

14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

What is the use of having everything if you have forgotten who gave it to you in the first place. LORD!!! Do not let our self sufficiency destroy our FAITH!! For you alone make EVERYTHING POSSIBLE!!

  14. Hosea 8
14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

    Forgotten God
How often have we forgotten God?
How many times do we go to church ,sing a song oray in the alter all without truly any regards to God?
How many times have we went through an entire day ;work then play and realize we have not even prayed?
    Forgotten God?
Too busy ! So busy ! Even in the midst of being busy for God?
I truly do not want it to be said I Forgot God!
I love God . I serve God ! All grand in its own way yet is He truly just God The Creator or Is He truly weaved into my life.
    Forgotten God?
Only I can answer that !
Jesus be bit just the center of my life but be everything of my life. Don’t let me forget you are more than my Creator but You are my Life .

  15. 12 NLT. “Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them.”

As the saying goes you reap what you sow. Israel did not live obedient to Gods laws. They treated God’s law as something strange to them.

  16. 4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

An idol doesn’t necessary have to be silver or gold even though we act like it is worth all the silver and gold!!! Could be a vehicle, could be anything , if could be something without a form even, not even physically seen, it could be in our mind and never become a reality but it surely can be taking the place of The ONE TRUE GOD!!!

  17. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

It is very dangerous to forget the Lord. In him we live, move, and have our being. He is the only way to salvation. It is easy to forget God even though most of us think it’s impossible. When I say “forget” I’m not talking about forgetting he exists, im talking about putting him first in prayer and Word and relationship.

  18. Hosea 8: 7-8 For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind; it hath no stalk; the bud shall yield no meal; if so be it yield, the strangers shall swallow it up.
    (8) Israel is swallowed up; now shall they be among the Gentiles as a vessel wherein is no pleasure.
Matt. 26: 41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
I love God , I will serve and work for God, no matter what!
If God be before me than who can be against me.

  19. AMP – Set the trumpet to your lips [announcing impending judgment]!
Like a [great] vulture the enemy comes against the house of the Lord,
Because they have broken My covenant
And transgressed and rebelled against My law.
2 Then they will cry out to Me,
“My God, we of Israel know You!”
    3 Israel has rejected the good;
    The enemy shall pursue him.

When God takes a step back, all hell has freedom to come against us. This is what happens when we forget who our Maker is and what we were created for. Judgement begins to happen. Another translation said, Israel loved the ritual of sacrifice, but not the God who they were sacrificing to. God help us to not love the ritual and routine of being a christian more than we love the relationship with the Creator of it all.

  20. LIVE – GIVE JESUS2
    KNOWN

1 Set the trumpet to thy mouth. He shall come as an eagle against the house of the Lord, because they have transgressed my covenant, and trespassed against my law.
2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.

There is an obvious difference in knowing someone and being known by someone. I can say that I know the president because he is a public figure. But I cannot say that I am known by the president.

However, I can say I know JESUS and be confident that I am known by JESUS. The WORD of GOD assures me of this promise and HIS presence and power in my life confirms that I am known by JESUS.

We witness this same warning from JESUS in the New Testament:

Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

In both passages the people had knowledge of GOD but didn’t follow GOD. Anyone can know GOD but only those who FOLLOWS and OBEYS the WORD and SPIRIT of GOD is KNOWN by GOD.

  21. 14 For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof.

Just as Judah built walls around their cities, so have people today built walls around their lives to fence God out. But I pray that God heals the cause of their backsliding and return to him before they find themselves in ruin. It may take drastic measures for some to return but I also pray that hearts and minds are softened, opened and ready to hear his call. He is calling them even now.

  22. “Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning! Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them.
    Hosea 8:11‭-‬12 NLT

The last couple of Sundays in class, we have been talking about good intentions and making the right choices. This is a prime example – Isreal built altars with intention to sacrifice unto God and have their sins washed away. This was a good intention. Unfortunately, those altars became defiled because the people didn’t take the law seriously and instead chose to ignore it causing them to sin and fail even more.

Good intentions are typically good, but it’s the follow through that matters most.

  23. Hosea 8:4
The people have appointed kings without my consent, and princes without my approval. By making idols for themselves from their silver and gold, they have brought about their own destruction.

Before make any decisions we should go to the Lord in prayer. David inquired of the Lord nine times in the books of first and second Samuel. His practice of continuously inquiring of the Lord is a beautiful model for our personal relationship with God. God didn’t turn a deaf ear to David’s inquiry and He won’t turn a deaf ear to us when we pursue His will and way for our lives and seek His counsel and guidance. God knows our dilemmas and has compassion for our problems, and is always available– If we will just inquire. It’s human nature to want an immediate answer to our problems, but God has specific purposes for the journey He leads us on if we will simply surrender our need to control and learn to trust him with our outcomes. God knows, He sees, and He deeply desires to answer us when we inquire of him.

  24. 3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear O Israel the Lord our God is One Lord. We must worship him only in Spirit and in truth.

  25. The Living Bible
    vs-4
She has appointed Kings and princes but not with my consent. They have cut themselves off from my help by worshiping the idols that they made from their silver and gold.
Idolatry is the worship of an idol as though it were God. In Abrahamic religions namely Judaism Christianity and Islam idolatry connotes the worship of something or someone other than God as if it were God.
AS our Pastor tells us that Idolatry is ANY THING we do or worship or give more time than we do to God.
    EXAMPLE: T.V. MONEY JOB ENTERTAINMENT

  26. ““Israel has built many altars to take away sin, but these very altars became places for sinning! Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them. The people love to offer sacrifices to me, feasting on the meat, but I do not accept their sacrifices. I will hold my people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. They will return to Egypt.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:11-13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The people still brought sacrifices to the Lord but it became a such a routine for them that it was nothing more than an outward show.

We cannot get so caught up in our every day lives that serving in the Kingdom becomes nothing more than a routine.

“You cannot sacrifice your way into a relationship with Jesus, you must obey your way into a relationship with Him”

  27. “They have planted the wind and will harvest the whirlwind. The stalks of grain wither and produce nothing to eat. And even if there is any grain, foreigners will eat it. The people of Israel have been swallowed up; they lie among the nations like an old discarded pot.
    Hosea 8:7‭-‬8 NLT

Now for this chapter is like if jesus was our birth father he would disiplane us for our actions

  28. Hosea 8:3, “Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.”

“Cast Off The Thing That Is Good”
Jesus says in St. Mark 10:18, “…there is none good but one, that is, God.”
    GOD IS GOOD!
Yet Israel Cast Him Off. They discarded and rejected Him. “They broke His covenant; they revolted against His law, they appointed kings without His consent; they appointed princes without His approval; and they made idols out of silver and gold; they sold themselves to many lovers; and they built altars that became places of sinning; and they had forgotten their Maker (nlt).”
They Cast Off the thing (GOD) that is good, and now their enemy will pursue them.
No Peace, No Joy, No Counsellor, No Healing, No Deliverance, No Way Maker, No Victory, etc…

Just remember: when a person Casts Off God, their enemy will always be pursuing them.
So Remember the LORD thy Maker. HE Is The Only Thing That Is Good! Keep Him always in your heart. Live for Him, and He will be Your Peace, Your Joy, Your Counsellor, Your Healer, Your Deliverer, Your Way Maker, Your Victory, etc……..

    HALLELUJAH!
    THANK YOU JESUS!!

  29. “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Don’t do anything without consulting your god. It’s because of him that we live move and have our being so why would you go elsewhere and not your god the one who created the heavens and the earth. We trust a chair to hold us up more than we trust in god and his decisions. We need to put our whole trust in him and not these things that can’t do anything for us.

  30. “I have written to him the great things of my law, but they were counted as a strange thing.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:12‬ ‭KJV‬‬

We must fall in love with the Word! Hide the Law in our hearts and treasure it! It will give wisdom and understanding. It will be a light to our path.

“How can a young person live a clean life? By carefully reading the map of your Word. I’m single-minded in pursuit of you; don’t let me miss the road signs you’ve posted. I’ve banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won’t sin myself bankrupt. Be blessed, GOD; train me in your ways of wise living. I’ll transfer to my lips all the counsel that comes from your mouth; I delight far more in what you tell me about living than in gathering a pile of riches. I ponder every morsel of wisdom from you, I attentively watch how you’ve done it. I relish everything you’ve told me of life, I won’t forget a word of it.”
    ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭119:9-16‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“My son, forget not my law; but let thine heart keep my commandments: For length of days, and long life, and peace, shall they add to thee.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:1-2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  31. Hosea 8

3 But Israel has rejected what is good; an enemy will pursue him.

4 They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction. NIV

Without our Lord, you will be totally lost. Nothing will make you happy; money, clothes, new cars etc…

“Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me,” John 15:4

“The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace.” Romans 8:6

  32. 4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

This scripture shows us what happens when a move is made without God. When we try to do things on our own, it usually does not turn out right. This is why it’s so important to follow after God. It doesn’t matter what comes your way, God is able to help you stay strong. We can do all things through Christ.

  33. 3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

When we leave the things that God has deemed good, we are exposing ourselves to the attack of the enemy. Our love towards God is demonstrated by our obedience to His Word.

We can not get upset and blame God for our misfortunes when we stray away from his statutes. We are the only ones that can get credit for our trouble.

  34. I have written for him the great things of My law, But they were considered a strange thing.
    Hosea 8:12 NKJV

It is only from the Word his commands, precepts, and law that we obtain direction for our lives. It guides and tells us how to be victorious over the troubles of life.

  35. 4 They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.

When men build idols in their life they have turned their heart away from God and forgotten his goodness. It will not be long before distraction comes upon them. The anger if God will be poured out upon men that would rather worship idols than God!

  36. “But it is too late. The people of Israel have rejected what is good, and now their enemies will chase after them.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The day of the Lord is coming, and when that day is all those who have turned their backs to the Lord those who have sinned and turned their lives to the enemy will be begging the Lord to receive them back and forgive them but it’ll be to late. I pray tonight that we make up our minds and live for the Lord with all will, and not just because we have to. God has done so much for us, let us do the same in return with praise and obedience. Everyday I pray that we continue to spread his word help the lost turn to him before it is to late.

  37. 13 They sacrifice flesh for the sacrifices of mine offerings, and eat it; but the Lordaccepteth them not; now will he remember their iniquity, and visit their sins: they shall return to Egypt.

When we being offerings to the Lord it can be considered as a sacrifice I guess lol cause you giving stuff to the Lord. I pray tonight that you are always giving God His portion!!!

  38. “Even though I gave them all my laws, they act as if those laws don’t apply to them. The people love to offer sacrifices to me, feasting on the meat, but I do not accept their sacrifices. I will hold my people accountable for their sins, and I will punish them. They will return to Egypt.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:12-13‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Obedience is better than sacrifice. When we sacrifice it should cost us something. Whether it costs us our time, talent, or treasure we should have the mindset of giving. Abstaining ourselves from sin is not a sacrifice but rather law, something we should already be doing. I pray we know His Word and do His Word which only comes from reading His Word.

  39. ““They crown kings, but without asking me. They set up princes but don’t let me in on it. Instead, they make idols, using silver and gold, idols that will be their ruin. Throw that gold calf-god on the trash heap, Samaria! I’m seething with anger against that rubbish! How long before they shape up? And they’re Israelites! A sculptor made that thing— it’s not God.
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:4-10‬ ‭MSG‬‬

“They set up kings without my consent; they choose princes without my approval. With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction. Samaria, throw out your calf-idol! My anger burns against them. How long will they be incapable of purity? They are from Israel! This calf—a metalworker has made it; it is not God. It will be broken in pieces, that calf of Samaria.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:4-6‬ ‭NIV‬‬

  40. “This calf you worship, O Israel, was crafted by your own hands! It is not God! Therefore, it must be smashed to bits.”
    ‭‭Hosea‬ ‭8:6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It’s time to smash every idol we’ve set up before the Lord. We have to have a clean heart and a right spirit before we take on the day.

  41. 2 Israel shall cry unto me, My God, we know thee.
3 Israel hath cast off the thing that is good: the enemy shall pursue him.

There are multiple warnings throughout Hosea. Not only Hosea, but also the entire Bible. Warnings of the repercussions of turning away from God. Here in this passage it states that once He does turn away for Israel’s sin, that Israel will cry out, that they know God. But it will be too late, the enemy will go after them, because they did not listen sooner, they did not change their ways earlier! Don’t be stuck in this awful place when it’s too far gone and God turns His back on you. I would never want to test His patience or test my limits in the worry that something disheartens as this would happen. Seek His face and Pray daily!! Read the word daily!!! Don’t turn from Him and He won’t turn from you.

  42. 1“Sound the alarm! The enemy descends like an eagle on the people of the LORD, for they have broken my covenant
    and revolted against my law.

If you hear the alarm of attack, you’re to late. The enemy is right on top of you. You have to have a shield of guardianship to protect you. Always have it in your hand, your sword, Bible, in the other.
