Zephaniah 3

1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city!

She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.

Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.

Her prophets are light and treacherous persons: her priests have polluted the sanctuary, they have done violence to the law.

The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.

10 From beyond the rivers of Ethiopia my suppliants, even the daughter of my dispersed, shall bring mine offering.

11 In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy mountain.

12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.

13 The remnant of Israel shall not do iniquity, nor speak lies; neither shall a deceitful tongue be found in their mouth: for they shall feed and lie down, and none shall make them afraid.

14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.

19 Behold, at that time I will undo all that afflict thee: and I will save her that halteth, and gather her that was driven out; and I will get them praise and fame in every land where they have been put to shame.

20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.

  1. 18 I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden.

Since the judgment was soon to be upon the people, the Lord ends the prophecy with a strong promise of a complete turnabout for the godly remnant. Instead of the reproach and sorrow of missing the appointed assembly, the exiles will be granted praise and fame in every land where they were put to shame.

  2. “In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:16-17‬ ‭KJV

    Hallelujah!!!!

These are promises made and given to the people of GOD whom have put their faith and trust in Him. These promises are for the redeemed, blood bought through Jesus Christ our LORD. He protects, He is with me, He rejoices, He strengthens, and He saves!

What a beautiful relationship and a testimony to share of the goodness of GOD. Salvation is for all, it truly is… only if you want it. As the scriptures says:

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.”
    ‭‭2 Peter‬ ‭3:9‬ ‭KJV

  3. 17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

    Hallelujah!!
    Thank You Jesus!!

  4. Verses 14-15 MSG “So sing, Daughter Zion! Raise your voices, Israel! Daughter Jerusalem, be happy! celebrate! God has reversed his judgments against you and sent your enemies off chasing their tails. From now on, God is Israel’s king, in charge at the center. There’s nothing to fear from evil ever again!” Who is in the center of your life? Who has your focus? Who are you putting first and foremost? Proverbs 3:6-12 ERV “With every step you take, think about what he wants, and he will help you go the right way. Don’t trust in your own wisdom, but fear and respect the Lord and stay away from evil. If you do this, it will be like a refreshing drink and medicine for your body. Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first part of your harvest. Then your barns will be full of grain, and your barrels will be overflowing with wine. My son, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be angry when he corrects you. The Lord corrects the one he loves, just as a father corrects a child he cares about.”

  5. 7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

Some people, no matter what happens to them, will not change. You would think after everything that has happened that his people would turn to him realizing the other options willing to destruction but they still chose it. Much like today where people refuse what is good and choose what is bad. We live in a world where people can’t even identify a gender and are completely blind to any objective truth. While there is still hope for his people who are walking in his light goes that choose to stay in darkness face punishment

  6. 17. For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. NLT

We have no reason to fear, but every reason to rejoice. God is love, and He is greater than whatever we fear. When God is in us, fear can’t stay.

    1 John 4:18
There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. KJV

  7. “I will gather you who mourn for the appointed festivals; you will be disgraced no more. And I will deal severely with all who have oppressed you. I will save the weak and helpless ones; I will bring together those who were chased away. I will give glory and fame to my former exiles, wherever they have been mocked and shamed. On that day I will gather you together and bring you home again. I will give you a good name, a name of distinction, among all the nations of the earth, as I restore your fortunes before their very eyes. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

We have seen Israel go from the crown of glory in the land to a heap of rubble. And within just a few centuries. So easily can we be turned away from the important things if we our hearts are being swayed from one thing to the next. When our hearts are anchored to the ROCK which is stronger than we are then we are able to stay humble and make it through impossible challenges.

  8. Zephaniah 3: 17 ( amp) The Lord your God is in the midst of you, a mighty One, a Savior Who saves! He will rejoice over you with joy; He will rest [ in silent satisfaction] and in His love He will be silent and make no mention [ of past sins, or even recall them];He will exult over you with singing.
Jeremiah 32: 41 Yes, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will past them in this land assuredly and in truth with My whole heart and with My whole being.
    Hallelujah
Let the redeemer say yes, and let’s rejoice together in the Lord.
Sing and make a joyful noice in to the Lord.
Raise up your hands and rejoice.
Thank you Jesus for your promises.

  9. iLove the Kiingdom of Jesus2

7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

That’s rough! Rising up early is tough enough to rise early… but even worse to rise up early with evil on your mind and then to be judged by God for it. I think the lesson here is to sleep in late and do great

  10. 8 Therefore wait ye upon me, saith the Lord, until the day that I rise up to the prey: for my determination is to gather the nations, that I may assemble the kingdoms, to pour upon them mine indignation, even all my fierce anger: for all the earth shall be devoured with the fire of my jealousy.

HE mentions the fire of his jealousy. If there is ever anybody that you don’t want to anger , that would and should be GOD!!! With that being said, it’s not everytime that we go through the fire or storms, or trials , it’s NOT because HE is angered. I have went through situations and if I am speaking the truth, I NEEDED the trails , certain situations!!! Put me back in line with the will of GOD real quick!!! GOD IS GOOD!!! HE IS FAITHFUL AND SOOO WORTHY!!! People are seeking answers out there and not finding the truth, or are walking just completely lost….WE HAVE THE ANSWER!!!LETS BE THE CHURCH!!!

  11. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Keep walking in faith and in truth and God will be there to guide you.

  12. I love pofw live Jesus give Jesus 2. Wake up give praise to the Lord for he is your lifeline he is you all In all your Heavenly father your redeemer. Hold to him cling to him love him and praise him.

  13. 16 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack.

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Keep waking in faith and in truth and God will guide you

  14. 6 I have cut off the nations: their towers are desolate; I made their streets waste, that none passeth by: their cities are destroyed, so that there is no man, that there is none inhabitant.

7 I said, Surely thou wilt fear me, thou wilt receive instruction; so their dwelling should not be cut off, howsoever I punished them: but they rose early, and corrupted all their doings.

The definition of Zephaniah is Yahweh hidden. Seems fitting for this city. They hid God away and continued on living in sin.

Often we hide God from ourselves, we keep him tucked away so that we are able to act out of pride and flesh without conviction.

  15. “On that day I will gather you together and bring you home again. I will give you a good name, a name of distinction, among all the nations of the earth, as I restore your fortunes before their very eyes. I, the Lord, have spoken!””
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When we are baptized in Jesus name, we are given a name of distinction. When we have Jesus name on us, we have power, victory, joy, etc. You name it, we got it. He gives us His good name so we can prevail and be overcomers!

  16. “I have wiped out many nations, devastating their fortress walls and towers. Their streets are now deserted; their cities lie in silent ruin. There are no survivors— none at all. I thought, ‘Surely they will have reverence for me now! Surely they will listen to my warnings. Then I won’t need to strike again, destroying their homes.’ But no, they get up early to continue their evil deeds. Therefore, be patient,” says the Lord. “Soon I will stand and accuse these evil nations. For I have decided to gather the kingdoms of the earth and pour out my fiercest anger and fury on them. All the earth will be devoured by the fire of my jealousy.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:6-8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Falsified doctrine about truth and good will be thoroughly exposed. Nothing will escape the Lord’s cleansing work.

  17. 16 in that day it shall be said to Jerusalem fear thou not and to Zion: let not thine hands be slack.
    ——
    From my notes October 21.
Don’t be afraid, don’t don’t let your hands
    Grow weak.keep on keeping on.
Repent, and plead pureness of heart.
Don’t give up, whatever comes your way
    Oposision? Worship
    Sickness? Speak healing
Don’t give up, do t be afraid
Don’t let your hands grow weary.
    Haven’t I commanded you?

  18. 17 NLT “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.””
‭‭When you have a relationship with God He will dwell in you. Then can find peace in your soul when you rest in Him.

  19. Zephaniah 3:18-20
[18]“I will gather you who mourn for the appointed festivals; you will be disgraced no more.
[19]And I will deal severely with all who have oppressed you. I will save the weak and helpless ones; I will bring together those who were chased away. I will give glory and fame to my former exiles, wherever they have been mocked and shamed.
[20]On that day I will gather you together and bring you home again. I will give you a good name, a name of distinction, among all the nations of the earth, as I restore your fortunes before their very eyes. I, the Lord, have spoken!”

    Joel 2:25-27
[25]The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the swarming locusts, the hopping locusts, the stripping locusts, and the cutting locusts. It was I who sent this great destroying army against you.
[26]Once again you will have all the food you want, and you will praise the Lord your God,
who does these miracles for you. Never again will my people be disgraced.
[27]Then you will know that I am among my people Israel, that I am the lord your God, and there is no other. Never again will my people be disgraced.

  20. 17 For the LORD your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs. NLT

“Who am I, that the eyes that see my sin, would look on me with love and watch me rise again…. Not because of who I am, but because of what You’ve done; not because of what I’ve done, but because of who You are.”

Everyday amazes me how God chooses to show us His mercy and love. We are but dust, yet to God are His most prized creation. Thank You Jesus!!

  21. 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.
15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

Once God has judged the evil, he turns again to his people and joy comes with him. The promise is they will not see evil any more and that is cause for great rejoicing!

  22. Zephaniah 3

What wonderful promises from Jesus Christ !

  23. 1 Woe to her that is filthy and polluted, to the oppressing city! 2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God. 3 Her princes within her are roaring lions; her judges are evening wolves; they gnaw not the bones till the morrow.

Even though this description is of a city, it represents a composite microcosm of the people that make-up the city. This can represent how the Lord views the depraved nature of the lost.

  24. Zephaniah 3:16,17 In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Isaiah 35:3,4 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.

Psalm 145:19 He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

Jeremiah 32:41 Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole soul.

    A time of restoration
    Rejoice in the Lord!!

  25. 14 Sing, O daughter of Zion; shout, O Israel; be glad and rejoice with all the heart, O daughter of Jerusalem.

15 The Lord hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the Lord, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more.

    God is so good. Rejoice

  26. AMP – 12 “But I will leave among you
    A humble and lowly people,
And they will take refuge and trust confidently in the name of the Lord.

Israel had long turned their back on Him and was doing “their own thing.” Imagine that, again and again, they found themselves in the same situation. Warning came time and time again about destruction. Today’s warning is that destruction will come, but God will have a people that is separated unto Him, doing His work, living His way.

God will always have a people that will love Him and will live according to His righteousness and ways.

We must learn to seek Him, and not what He can do for us. To know Him, and be known of Him is the greatest opportunity we have been given. His Spirit leads us and guides us only if we seek after Him and be like David, a man/woman after God’s own heart.

  29. Zephaniah 3:2
“She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the LORD; she drew not near to her God.”

“She” was Disobedient; “she” was Stubborn; “she” had Unbelief; “she” had Forsaken God.

O JESUS, help me to always Obey Your voice and to receive Correction, whether it be through Prayer or through the Reading of Your Word or through the Preaching and Teaching of Your Word. Help me to always put my Trust in You JESUS for You will not fail me. Help me to Draw nearer and closer to You, for when I do, You will Draw nearer and closer to me.

  30. “At that time I will bring you in, Yes, at the time I gather you together; For I will make you a name and a praise Among all the peoples of the earth When I restore your fortunes [and freedom] before your eyes,” Says the Lord.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:20‬ ‭AMP‬‬

When we receive the Holy Ghost and are baptized in the name of Jesus, we receive a new name, we take on the name of Jesus!

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
    ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  31. 8Therefore, be patient,” says the LORD.
“Soon I will stand and accuse these evil nations.

Be patient with everyone. Many have a no patience for anything, they want answers quickly, or get something done quickly. Most important, be patient with one another. Be willing to listen, obey or teach others.

  32. Zephaniah 3

17 The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Our Lord loves us so much. Even through our sins and mistakes, he still cares for us unconditionally.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  33. Zephaniah 3

20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.

The Lord Jesus has spoken I do not need to say any thing else.

  34. 9 For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the Lord, to serve him with one consent.

Everyone that serves the Lord must serve him with their own will. God does not force anyone, so you must be a willing vessel. When we allow God to work through us, he will give us direction and strength. Through him we can overcome anything that comes our way.

  35. “Therefore, be patient,” says the Lord. “Soon I will stand and accuse these evil nations. For I have decided to gather the kingdoms of the earth and pour out my fiercest anger and fury on them. All the earth will be devoured by the fire of my jealousy.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is not on us to do wrong to those who have done wrong to us. But it is on us to forgive them and turn the other cheek, for God saw and he will late care of it later. We serve a God that forgave us of all our wrongs so we need to forgive those who have done the same to us. I pray that we forgive no matter how hard it is, and trust in the Lords plan no matter what. For he will replace your pain with light and joy, for he won’t ever let his children be sad.

  36. 12 I will also leave in the midst of thee an afflicted and poor people, and they shall trust in the name of the Lord.

God should have all of trust. We should be always depending on him. Last Sunday I was able to attend the Spanish service and the message that was taught reminded me of this. Brother Garcia had said that the blind man had to depend on God for his miracle. I pray tonight that you are DEPENDING on Him will a whole heart!!!

  37. 5 The just Lord is in the midst thereof; he will not do iniquity: every morning doth he bring his judgment to light, he faileth not; but the unjust knoweth no shame.

  38. 20 At that time will I bring you again, even in the time that I gather you: for I will make you a name and a praise among all people of the earth, when I turn back your captivity before your eyes, saith the Lord.

This is for the one that feel like it’s too much and no one know where you are. Guess what God knows. When others don’t know your name and your past has given you a bad name… God says follow me and I will give you a new name that will overwrite your past and what others don’t know about you. Once Gods done everyone will know

  39. “But the Lord is still there in the city, and he does no wrong. Day by day he hands down justice, and he does not fail. But the wicked know no shame.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Every day He is still Lord…our daily circumstances at times can have the ability to confuse us to believe He has forgotten us. But the Word does not Lie. And Jesus does not fail!

  40. 2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.

Learn from someone else’s mistakes and know that this is not who you want to become. She obeyed not. . . She received not. . . She trusted not. . . She drew not. . . That is a sad life to live. So, learn from the mistakes of others written and recorded.

  41. 2No one can tell it anything;
    it refuses all correction.
It does not trust in the Lord
or draw near to its God.

one of the few early signs of rebellion is refusing correction. It doesn’t matter who you if the word of God is presented to me I’m gonna receive it as a word from the bible and I’m gonna take that scripture to heart. The day i refuse the word of God is the day I know I’m in rebellion. I don’t ever wanna be in that state of mind

  42. Zephaniah 3:1‭-‬2 NLT
1 What sorrow awaits rebellious, polluted Jerusalem, the city of violence and crime!
2 No one can tell it anything; it refuses all correction. It does not trust in the Lord or draw near to its God.

The consequences of sin lead to rebellion, destruction and death. Sin will take us farther than we want to go and we won’t realize it till until its too late. Thankfully there is salvation and forgiveness in Jesus. We just have to want it.

  43. 2 She obeyed not the voice; she received not correction; she trusted not in the Lord; she drew not near to her God.

When we receive a word from the lord and refuse to listen to it there will be consequences. Warning always come before destruction. When we are given correction we should take heed to that correction and now draw away. We don’t need to become offended by the correct because it’s in our best interest. If he did not love us he wouldn’t correct us. Don’t take it personal but take heed because you don’t want to suffer the consequences.

  44. “No one can tell it anything; it refuses all correction. It does not trust in the Lord or draw near to its God.”
    ‭‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3:2‬ ‭NLT‬‬

My eyes when I read this…. 👀 That’s an incredibly scary place to be! When you get to a point you no longer want to receive correction, check👏🏽 your👏🏽self👏🏽! What’s really terrible is that’s exactly what is happening now. We’re living in a period where everybody knows best, you can’t change their mind for nothing, they rely on themselves and not Him, and there is no reverence for God and His word. We should make sure we find ourselves in the word and 100% dependent on Him.

  45. I thought, ‘Surely they will have reverence for me now! Surely they will listen to my warnings. Then I won’t need to strike again, destroying their homes.’ But no, they get up early to continue their evil deeds.
    Zephaniah 3:7 NLT

The Lord himself something allows and even orchestrates things in our lives that are not to our liking that we may humble ourselves and seek Him.
When troubles come our immediate reaction should be to run to him.
