Jeremiah 40

The word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord, after that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had let him go from Ramah, when he had taken him being bound in chains among all that were carried away captive of Jerusalem and Judah, which were carried away captive unto Babylon.

And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lordthy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

Then went Jeremiah unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam to Mizpah; and dwelt with him among the people that were left in the land.

Now when all the captains of the forces which were in the fields, even they and their men, heard that the king of Babylon had made Gedaliah the son of Ahikam governor in the land, and had committed unto him men, and women, and children, and of the poor of the land, of them that were not carried away captive to Babylon;

Then they came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, even Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and Johanan and Jonathan the sons of Kareah, and Seraiah the son of Tanhumeth, and the sons of Ephai the Netophathite, and Jezaniah the son of a Maachathite, they and their men.

And Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan sware unto them and to their men, saying, Fear not to serve the Chaldeans: dwell in the land, and serve the king of Babylon, and it shall be well with you.

10 As for me, behold, I will dwell at Mizpah, to serve the Chaldeans, which will come unto us: but ye, gather ye wine, and summer fruits, and oil, and put them in your vessels, and dwell in your cities that ye have taken.

11 Likewise when all the Jews that were in Moab, and among the Ammonites, and in Edom, and that were in all the countries, heard that the king of Babylon had left a remnant of Judah, and that he had set over them Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan;

12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

13 Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

14 And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not.

15 Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish?

16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

Praise the Lord brother and sisters after all that mess we created for ourselves the Lord is going to take care of us. To go or to stay that’s the question shoes wise.

  2. Jeremiah 40:12 NLT
they began to return to Judah from the places to which they had fled. They stopped at Mizpah to meet with Gedaliah and then went into the Judean countryside to gather a great harvest of grapes and other crops.

When we are going through great turmoil and tragedy in our life. We must realize that its just for a season. We must come back to praise( Judah). When we praise it, it gets God attention and He has choice but to Bless you.

  3. “Coulda woulda shoulda”……many come to ask sometimes; but, you have to trust in what God is telling you to do. We must remember to always enquire of the Lord in what we should do. We cannot allow things to blind us to the truth of what can be harmful and threaten our eternity with Christ. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 MSG says “If our Message is obscure to anyone, it’s not because we’re holding back in any way. No, it’s because these other people are looking or going the wrong way and refuse to give it serious attention. All they have eyes for is the fashionable god of darkness. They think he can give them what they want, and that they won’t have to bother believing a Truth they can’t see. They’re stone-blind to the dayspring brightness of the Message that shines with Christ, who gives us the best picture of God we’ll ever get.” LIVE-GIVE JESUS²

  4. 13. Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah,

Sometimes we think we really know people, but when given the chance, they let their true colors shine through.

  5. Jeremiah 40: 4 (amp) Now,see, I am freeing you today
[ Jeremiah] from the chains upon your hands. If it seems good to you to come with me into Babylon, come, and I will keep an eye on you and look well after you. But if it seems bad to you to come with me to Babylon, then do not do it. Behold ,all the land is before you. Wherever it seems good, right and convenient for you to go, go there.

  6. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS 2. It’s such a blessing to know when our lives get crazy and so high maintenance we can go to God for comfort and help. I don’t know how to live without God. I don’t want to remember either!

  7. The captain of the guard called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land, just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened.
    Jeremiah 40:2‭-‬3 NLT

I love and appreciate how God separates Jeremiah from the rest of Israel because he was obedient while the rest of them rebelled. We are not held accountable for others actions nor we punished for them. At a time of captivity, Jeremiah was set free

  8. Si DIOS viene y me dice te doy salud, amor, bendiciones y prosperidad si me sigues y te humillas ante mi y solo tu me buscaras no lo pensaria dos veces .

  9. 2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lordthy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.

3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

God is so good! Finally Jeremiah was set free because he obeyed the voice of The Lord and that is what today is to when we are going through something Jesus will make a way for you and continue obey His Word.
    Thank You Jesus!
    Hallelujah!

  10. “If you decide to stay, then return to Gedaliah son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan. He has been appointed governor of Judah by the king of Babylon. Stay there with the people he rules. But it’s up to you; go wherever you like.” Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, gave Jeremiah some food and money and let him go. So Jeremiah returned to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah, and he lived in Judah with the few who were still left in the land.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:5-6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

This shows God’s remarkable care for Jeremiah, even from the hands of a pagan authority. In some ways Jeremiah received better treatment from Nebuzaradan than from his fellow Jews.

  11. 12 even all the Jews returned out of all the places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah to Gadaliah unto Mizpa and gathered wine and summer fruits.
    —-
Hallelujah 🙌 blessed be the name of the Lord.
In the midst of all this, again, the Lord always working on behalf of his people. The lord did not save us( me) to just come to church every Sunday rejoice with those who rejoice and continue to live life.
No, i must endure the faith walk. Just like Jeremiah shows us he has done it.
    God is using him, yes,
    He has obeyed
    He has spoke
    He has endure…
Mean while, others are being blessed, set free, delivered..(the Jews, the goodness of God to them..)

  12. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

God is merciful, but we can’t take that for granted. Just because he gives us chance after chance doesn’t mean those chances are always gonna be there. If we obey God when he speaks it won’t be so hard for you to listen and walk in truth and light.

  13. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

5 Now while he was not yet gone back, he said, Go back also to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, whom the king of Babylon hath made governor over the cities of Judah, and dwell with him among the people: or go wheresoever it seemeth convenient unto thee to go. So the captain of the guard gave him victuals and a reward, and let him go.

Even though Jeremiah suffered because he spoke the truth, in the end he was treated well. It pays to serve God and in the end God will put good people in our path.

  14. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

The world doesn’t care to recognize or want to know how or why we strive to live in holiness, but are very quick to judge and point fingers…….the world knows when we aren’t right , so why do we think that we can hide our state in which we are from GOD, do we think that we are better….. Or HE can’t see us….well anywho, the world knows!!! So if they know,…..we should know better ….

  15. 2-3 NLT “The captain of the guard called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land, just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened.”

God’s Word is true. He gave the people numerous times to change their ways but they refused. So He brought disaster to the land as warned.

  16. LIVE – GIVE JESUS
    DELIVERANCE AND LIBERTY

4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

The Kingdom of GOD is characterized by DELIVERANCE AND LIBERTY. Through the WORD of GOD, BLOOD of JESUS and HOLY GHOST we are granted DELIVERANCE from the captivity of sin and LIBERTY to determine our future success or failure.

JESUS affirms this Kingdom principal and promise.

    John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;
32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?
34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.
36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

Jeremiah chose the people, he went back to the people. I pray that JESUS places in our hearts a love and desire for the people. The HARVEST is the PEOPLE.

  17. Jeremiah 40
2-3 The captain of the bodyguard singled out Jeremiah and said to him, “Your God pronounced doom on this place. God came and did what he had warned he’d do because you all sinned against God and wouldn’t do what he told you. So now you’re all suffering the consequences.

4-5 “But today, Jeremiah, I’m setting you free, taking the chains off your hands. If you’d like to come to Babylon with me, come along. I’ll take good care of you. But if you don’t want to come to Babylon with me, that’s just fine, too. Look, the whole land stretches out before you. Do what you like. Go and live wherever you wish. If you want to stay home, go back to Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan. The king of Babylon made him governor of the cities of Judah. Stay with him and your people. Or go wherever you’d like. It’s up to you.”

Jeremiah had finally completed the will of God through many challenges. He never wavered from the word . The result was the what had been prophesied over the people. Not until God’s will was accomplished did Jeremiah receive freedom.
There are times such as this in our own life that tasks set before us can be challenging. The will of God comes with sacrifice . God gave him freedom and a choice to go live where ever he wished . This is our God. For Such a Time As This even in the life of Jeremiah. The will of God has been done.

  18. iLove the Kingdom of Jesus2
Jer 40:16 But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.

It’s hard to trust anyone with the name Ishmael. Ishmael’s name means, “God will hear”. Even though I realize this Ishmael is a different person from the son of Abraham and Hagar, I also realize that this was probably a descendant of the Arab with his family naming him after the lil feller. Even though it would cost Gedaliah his life later, I believe Gedaliah did the right thing by not judging Ishmael just because of a rumor.

  19. 2And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lordthy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.
3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

If the Lord said it, He will do it!

  20. 2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lordthy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.
3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

God’s word is always true and Jeremiah was also shown to trult be tje prophet of God. Now he is released from prison and given a choice where to go live in peace. He chooses his people because his heart has always been for them to turn back to God and live for him. God can and will still use him for the remnant.

  21. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

The Lord is not just waiting to punish us. The Lord is gracious with his mercy and when we are punished it is because we have gone beyond His mercy.

  22. 5 “… But it’s up to you; go wherever you like…”

We are all faced with choices. To go outside the will of God, to stay in the will of God. To do what we want to do and satisfy our flesh, or do what the Lord is asking of us and serve Him.

Thats up to you. Thats your choice.

  23. Jeremiah 40:2-3
[2]The captain of the guard called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land,
[3]just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened.

The Lord stays true to what he says he will do. Its not a good idea to sin and disobey the Lord.
    Obedience = Blessings

  24. “Moreover Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces that were in the fields, came to Gedaliah to Mizpah, and said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam believed them not. Then Johanan the son of Kareah spake to Gedaliah in Mizpah secretly, saying, Let me go, I pray thee, and I will slay Ishmael the son of Nethaniah, and no man shall know it: wherefore should he slay thee, that all the Jews which are gathered unto thee should be scattered, and the remnant in Judah perish? But Gedaliah the son of Ahikam said unto Johanan the son of Kareah, Thou shalt not do this thing: for thou speakest falsely of Ishmael.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:13-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In this passage we find Gedaliah has been appointed governor of the land. And has had he first incident. As a leader its important to have some foundational principles established.
    1. Develop Life of PRAYER, to consult with God in every situation. The Lord knows the end from the beginning, so what would we not pray about the situation first.
    2. Reach OUT to those with wisdom. Build a group of people that are full of life experiences that you can ask for wisdom.
    3. FAST! As a Leader you dont have to give an answer right then. If you haven’t heard from God maybe there’s too much flesh involved and a few days of fasting can help get our spirit in tune with God and create a deeper intimacy with God.
    4. Get into the WORD! The word is full of wisdom. In 2 Timothy 3:16 is says, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”

Every Leader should have this foundational principles- P.O.F.W.
PRAYER – talk to God first
OUT – Reach out to a team of elders
FAST – Get the flesh out of the way
    WORD – consume the word.
    ‭‭

  25. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Jeremiah was being loosed from the imprisonment, and was told he would be given provisions and he could choose where he wanted to go. God has always and will always provide for His people. He fed Elijah with a raven. He provided daily manna from heaven for the Israelites while they were in the wilderness. If we will live for God, trust Him in all our ways, seek Him first, provision will be ours.

  27. Jeremiah 40:4-6 (NLT)
    4) But I am going to take off your chains and let you go. If you want to come with me to Babylon, you are welcome. I will see that you are well cared for. But if you don’t want to come, you may stay here. The whole land is before you — go wherever you like.
    5) If you decide to stay, then return to Gedaliah son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan. He has been appointed governor of Judah by the king of Babylon. Stay there with the people he rules. But it’s up to you; go wherever you like. Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, gave Jeremiah some food and money and let him go.
    6) So Jeremiah returned to Gedaliah son of Ahikam at Mizpah, and he lived in Judah with the few who were still left in the land.

    “GO or STAY”
Jeremiah could have GONE with the captain of the guard, Nebuzaradan, and lived in Babylon. He could have lived a pretty good life there. He would have been well cared for.
    BUT…
Jeremiah chose to STAY and live in Judah “Praise” with the people left in the land – the people of God.
He did not GO to a more comfortable place and live a life of ease, BUT he STAYED in the land of “Praise” with the people of God.

GO or STAY, It’s your choice.
BUT as for me, I choose to STAY in the land of Praise with the people of God!

  28. Jeremiah 40

The Lords words are true. If you against Him, trouble will be your way. Follow Jesus and life will be much happier and easy for you.

  29. vs. 2-3 (The Living Bible)
The captain called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land, just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord. That is why it happened.”

The Babylonian offcial showed respect for Jeremiahs faith and teachings . This need not imply he believed in the prophets God. Even so he showed more respect for Jeremiah than did the prophets own people.

Knowing Gods will is only of value if we are willing to do it.
We can either learn from mistakes- or make them all over again.

  30. 4But I am going to take off your chains and let you go. If you want to come with me to Babylon, you are welcome. I will see that you are well cared for. But if you don’t want to come, you may stay here. The whole land is before you—go wherever you like.

Spiritually, that is what God does, he removes the chains of sin from us. Once the chains are removed, you are free. You have to decide what road will you take, the road of righteousness or the road of unrighteousness.

  31. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

I believe that the Lord will show us the right path to take if we open ourselves up to hear His instructions and obey His commands. When we don’t, we sinned against the Lord and the consequences are not worth the sin. I noticed that when I shut myself off from the Lord or fall out of His presence, I feel the void and take the wrong path at times. But I’m very thankful that Jesus’s love is unconditional and He always will welcome His children home when we go back to Him. I’m so grateful and humbled by the love of Jesus Christ my King and Savior. Praise God!

  32. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Even in terrifying situations God will take care of His people!

  33. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Everyone who disobeys God will suffer the consequence. If we are to excel in God, we must obey. Doing what God says takes us to new levels. We can be free only when we are willing to let other things go. God is a deliverer and in him we will find freedom.

  34. v12 Even all the Jews returned out of all places whither they were driven, and came to the land of Judah, to Gedaliah, unto Mizpah, and gathered wine and summer fruits very much.

The Church that God constructed will succeed only when it continues in worship and praise to Him. HE merits our praise, we also need to praise Him for our personal benefit. By doing so, we position ourselves to access His blessing and we benefit from His glory in our lives.
God will supply what we need when we need it and in sufficient quantity.
Did the Lord not promise that if we would ” seek first the kingdom of God, and his righteous; all these things shall be added unto you ” Matthew 6:33

  35. I leaned that a blessing to know when our lives get crazy and so high maintenance we can go to God for comfort and help.

  36. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Sin and disobedience will bring evil and death. Why is it so easy for people to often forget that sin will lead us down the wrong path? Pride, pride causes man to be separated from the conviction that God send us to lead us away from sin.

Let us lay our will and pride down that we may clearly hear and obey His voice and when we can’t hear Him we can choose to be stable in out convictions until He gives us direction.

  37. “When the commander of the guard found Jeremiah, he said to him, “The Lord your God decreed this disaster for this place. And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned against the Lord and did not obey him.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:2-3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

What god says he will do he will do! If you choose to disobey him you will reap the consequences it’s your choice to listen or to disobey! The choice is up to you just be ready for what follows the decision you make!

  38. 3 And now the Lord has brought it about; he has done just as he said he would. All this happened because you people sinned against the Lord and did not obey him.

God is a forgiving God, but that doesn’t mean we can go about our own way and do what we want when we want, God wants us to follow Him and His ways.

  39. “just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Like how we’re always told our actions always have consequences. When we follow into the path of sin and disobedience we will face many trials where we will feel defeated and like there’s no one there for you. That is the price of sin and living in worldly lives. The enemy will bring you down and make you turn to bad decisions and will fill your mind with awful thoughts. But deep down before you changed you knew God, you know what he can do and what he will do. God has replaced all of our pain and suffering with peace and joy! God has saved us from so much, and continues to bless. So I pray tonight that we make sure we’re making God the center of our lives for without him we’re nothing.

  40. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Be careful of your decisions. God has put done instructions that we just be following. We should never ever turn against His will! I pray tonight that we are not Turing but following His word at all times!!!

  41. 14 And said unto him, Dost thou certainly know that Baalis the king of the Ammonites hath sent Ishmael the son of Nethaniah to slay thee?

Who is lying? Not sure how one should approach all kinds of accusation of who said this or who did what? Yet one thing to know is to go to the one who holds all truth and seek Him prayer. The Lord Jesus said I am the Way the Truth and the Life. I know that He will give to all truth.

  42. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Sin is sin.God views it all the same. Don’t let the world lie to you and say that there are different levels to sin and that some sin is okay. We’ very been warned about secret sin and baby sins.

  43. “The captain of the guard called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land, just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened.”
    Jeremiah 40:2-3 NLT

This is what happens when the people refuse to listen to Jesus disaster came on upon them. God is warning the church to be ready for He is returning and that the day of salvation is now. Let us not take any day for granted to be right with Jesus nor tell others of the greatness of Jesus. God is speaking to everyone let’s obey His word.

  44. “If you decide to stay, then return to Gedaliah son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan. He has been appointed governor of Judah by the king of Babylon. Stay there with the people he rules. But it’s up to you; go wherever you like.” Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, gave Jeremiah some food and money and let him go.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We all have choices to make; Some big, some small. Despite the difficulty, it is important to keep one question in mind – What does God say? When we listen and know His voice we find He gives us so much guidance, it seems unbelievable! Thank You Jesus for leading and guiding us through it all.

  45. 2 And the captain of the guard took Jeremiah, and said unto him, The Lordthy God hath pronounced this evil upon this place.
3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Guilty by association catches many of people. Although we might not be directly involved in whatever the sin might be, because we are there, we become guilty by association.
The Word says that it rains on the just and the unjust, just because we are in a land, if the land as a whole is sinful, if we do not oppose the greater numbers, we become guilty by association. We must be vigilant and preach Jesus, staying holy, that way when the land is judged, we too might receive mercy and provisions.

  46. 3 Now the Lord hath brought it, and done according as he hath said: because ye have sinned against the Lord, and have not obeyed his voice, therefore this thing is come upon you.

Just listening and obeying to His works, directions, and Ways gets you so far. Sometimes me plan out demand.

  47. 4 And now, behold, I loose thee this day from the chains which were upon thine hand. If it seem good unto thee to come with me into Babylon, come; and I will look well unto thee: but if it seem ill unto thee to come with me into Babylon, forbear: behold, all the land is before thee: whither it seemeth good and convenient for thee to go, thither go.

Jeremiah was given favor by God while he was in a bad situation, while he had chains on and he was bound. I wonder if Jeremiah was feeling sorry for himself in his chains or was he praising God and saying rejoice not against me oh my enemy when I fall I shall arise. We need to remember who is on our side today and quit walking in defeat. I am certain Jeremiah was saying if God be for me who can be against me. God help us remember your promises everyday in every situation.

  48. But I am going to take off your chains and let you go. If you want to come with me to Babylon, you are welcome. I will see that you are well cared for. But if you don’t want to come, you may stay here. The whole land is before you—go wherever you like. If you decide to stay, then return to Gedaliah son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan. He has been appointed governor of Judah by the king of Babylon. Stay there with the people he rules. But it’s up to you; go wherever you like.” Then Nebuzaradan, the captain of the guard, gave Jeremiah some food and money and let him go.
    Jeremiah 40:4‭-‬5 NLT

Every choice we make matters. Because the people disobeyed, they landed in captivity, but because Jeremiah was always obedient, he now has some favor and liberty. The situations we face may be unusual but God always has a plan greater than we can understand. Follow God and be obedient to every word He speaks!

  49. “The captain of the guard called for Jeremiah and said, “The Lord your God has brought this disaster on this land, just as he said he would. For these people have sinned against the Lord and disobeyed him. That is why it happened. But I am going to take off your chains and let you go. If you want to come with me to Babylon, you are welcome. I will see that you are well cared for. But if you don’t want to come, you may stay here. The whole land is before you—go wherever you like.”
    ‭‭Jeremiah‬ ‭40:2-4‬ ‭NLT‬‬

God Kept his word and did what he said he was gonna do for their disobedience. Ole Jerry had a choice to make he could’ve left and had provision from the Babylonians or he could’ve stayed in Judaea. You could go where better things are offered or you can stay where you’re called to be at. Jeremiah stayed in Judaea then the people came back to help with the harvest. I’d say there’s a message in this.
