Acts 6

And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.

Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen.

10 And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the spirit by which he spake.

11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

14 For we have heard him say, that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place, and shall change the customs which Moses delivered us.

15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

  1. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

  2. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

The apostles would give themselves continually to prayer and the ministry of the word. The order here is significant first prayer, then the ministry of the word. They made it a point to speak to God about men before speaking to men about God.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  3. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

    Hallelujah!
This is still very well and alive!
    Thank You Jesus!

  4. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Being full of faith and power is the prerequisite to to doing great wonders and miracles. It is not by our might but by the power of God that we have faith, and that God manifests His power through us. Stubborn men falsely accused Stephen, and likewise when men speak falsely of the Gospel thst crucify Christ once again.

  5. 4. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

    7. And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

Once we get our priorities in order, everything else falls into place and is blessed.

  6. Acts 6: 2-3 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God ,and serve tables.
    3) Wherefore ,brethren ,Look out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and whom we may appoint over this business.
However, the disciples wanted to devote their full time and energy to proclaimed of the Gospel, and wisdom to serve tables and care for some of the practical functions.
The word decon means to serve or minister.
Be a server and a minister to this world, and Go and Proclaim The Word of the Lord to this lost world in Jesus name.

  7. None of them could stand against the wisdom and the Spirit with which Stephen spoke. So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.”
Acts of the Apostles 6:10‭-‬11 NLT

When witnessing for Christ it is virtually inevitable that you’re going to face people that will come against you for it. They will not like what you have to say and we’ll try to Buck up against the authority that you’ve been given. But we are called to stand our ground and to love in truth and they will not be able to stand against us for very long

  8. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

The twelve did not want anything interfering with their prayer or teaching of the word. They knew the importance of prayer.

  9. So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.
Acts of the Apostles 6:2‭-‬3 NLT

    https://bible.com/bible/116/act.6.2-3.NLT

It is so important to prayerfully consider who to put over each ministry as workers and directors. I’m gratefully for what God is doing in each of the ministries of our church!! Hallelujah!!!!

  10. 5 And the saying please the whole multitude and they choose Stephen a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost
And Philip and Prochorus and Nicanor and Timon and Parmenas and Nicolás a Proselyte of Antioch .

    —-
A problem arose and they fixed it. They continued
With the work of the Lord.
They mentioned two things these men must have
To be honest and full of the Hy Ghost.
    Enough said.

  11. “And so, brothers, select seven men who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6:3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We all have a responsibility in the Kingdom of God. Our mission at the POFW is to “Impact Lives to Change the World”.

We each hold a responsibility to it, rather by cleaning the sanctuary, being a greeter, or even studying the word to present. All are equally important in impacting someone.

  12. GREATER
    FULL OF FAITH AND POWER

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

There is a unique connection between the power of GOD in man and the WORD og GOD in man. As the WORD increased the “church” increased and the disciples increased in FAITH and POWER.

The INCREASE for The POFW is directly connected to our increase in knowledge and obedience to the WORD of GOD.

    THIS REVIVAL –

I see a REVIVAL and HARVEST building that is GREATER than anything I have ever seen coming to The POFW.

Is accelerated by our INCREASE of the WORD of GOD.

    iRepent
    iPraise
    iPray
    iWork
    iLive
    iGive
    iReap
    iGo
    iBlessYouInTheNameOfTheLordJESUS
iSee a REVIVAL and HARVEST building that is GREATER than anything I have ever seen coming to The POFW.

  13. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.

7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

God is looking for people that is full of faith to minister to the needs of those around them. He has already equipped us, we just have to step out on His Word and do what needs to be done.

This is our season and our time! Let’s build the Kingdom of God.

  14. So they persuaded some men to lie about Stephen, saying, “We heard him blaspheme Moses, and even God.” This roused the people, the elders, and the teachers of religious law. So they arrested Stephen and brought him before the high council. The lying witnesses said, “This man is always speaking against the holy Temple and against the law of Moses. We have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy the Temple and change the customs Moses handed down to us.” At this point everyone in the high council stared at Stephen, because his face became as bright as an angel’s.”
    ‭‭Acts of the Apostles‬ ‭6:11-15‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Popular opinion can be easily shaped. The same crowds that praised Jesus soon called for His crucifixion. The crowds that loved the apostles, cry out against Stephen. This is why we should never let popular opinion shape the vision or focus of the church, but let it rest on God’s eternal Word.

  15. Acts of the Apostles 6:4
Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”

We need to spend time in prayer and reading and sharing God’s word with other. People need to know about the love of Jesus and how good he is.

  16. The Kingdom of God is GREATER
Over and over we continually see that no matter how righteous and how many signs and wonders are done by the disciples, jealousy seems to always take center stage. The Jewish leaders are livid that power is being removed from their possession. People are no longer looking at them for guidance, but are seeing the freedom of a relationship with Jesus. The Catholic Church did the exact same thing when they came to power. They lost control of the people which in turn caused them to persecute the church. The reason why the church is hated is because it can’t be controlled. Even today, the world hates the church because it cannot force it’s agenda on us.

  17. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS2 GREATER! 8
And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith. Obedience is so important in God’s business.

  18. 8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

God chose to use Stephan to do miracles and wonders and he also had great wisdom and knowledge of the word, a layman appointed to help with the daily distribution of food to the widows & those in need. He was not appointed to preach yet he most certainly could teach and was greatly used of God. We can’t let position or lack of position to hinder us from using the gifts we have from God. Stephen’s gifting caused him to be despised by the Jews he was trying to teach and convert. They went so far as to take his life. But the enemy can’t stop the church! And he can’t stop God!

  19. ‘And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

    Acts 6:7
When the word of God goes for there WILL be increase in disciples. There will be an outpouring of the holy ghost. There WILL be preachers that answer the call. There WILL be teachers that answer the call. YOU are anointed and when you speak the word of God people from all over are gonna come to the buffet line where youre serving them with THE TRUTH IN JESUS NAME!

  20. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.
3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

We must be full of the Holy Ghost wisdom and honesty in order to reach those that are hurting and are looking for an answer to their situation. Let Us reach out to someone today We might be the answer for them.

  21. 3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

If we take some time out of our “busy” day to pray and read the word of God, we end up building a relationship with God.

  22. 15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

When you have been in the presence of THE LORD , even our appearance changes. So if we keep in HIS presence and our appearance changes , so if our appearance isn’t changing am I lacking?……..I NEED MORE PRESENCE OF GOD!!!

  23. vs-2
So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers.
“We should spend our time preaching, not administering a feeding program, they said.

I am very honored to work around the church. I and my wife are part of the cleaning team. It’s a good idea for anybody that’s not a minister or part of Pastor Watts ministry team to ask and find out what you can do around the church. I am talking about taking the burden off a minister doing jobs so they don’t.

In vs-2 The Twelve did it not impose a solution, but suggested the process by which the church would resolve it’s own difficulties. Leaders should not have to clean the church or other jobs that some of us would be willing to do.We as (A Body Of Christ) should always be willing to work together so that the Preacher’s and teachers can spend time in prayer, preaching, and teaching.

  24. 1 And in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
    ****************
Sometimes there are too many ministers and not enough workers. Yes, preaching and teaching are important, most important to bring unbeliever to Christ, But; first we must take care of the needs of people, those that are hungry, homeless, jobless, poor in health, we must show them the love of Jesus by caring for their needs. We mustn’t neglect those who are in need.
    ****************
    Matthew 25:42-45
42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

  25. Acts 6:3-7
    3) Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.
    4) But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.
    5) And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicamor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
    6) Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
    7) And the word of God increased: and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

When we who have been “appointed over this business, (over other responsibilities in the church),” work together in unity with Pastor, the Ministers, and Head Leadership, we (POFW) will see the Word Of God Increase; we will see the Number of Disciples Multiply in Fort Worth Greatly; and we will see others become Obedient to the Faith.

Thank You JESUS for GREATER Church Growth!!

  26. I learned in these days, when the number of the disciples was multiplied, there arose a murmuring of the Grecians against the Hebrews, because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration. Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.brethren, look out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business. But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word. Amen!

  27. 2 Then the twelve called the multitude of the disciples unto them, and said, It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables.

3 Wherefore, brethren, look ye out among you seven men of honest report, full of the Holy Ghost and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business.

4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

The Church had grown so much that the Apostles could not take care of everything. So they appointed 7 men to help oversee the work of distribution of the needs of the widows. This solved a problem that could have split the Church.

  28. 15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

Throughout scripture when a person’s face shined it was an indication that he/she had been alone with Jesus. After reading this verse my mind began to wonder if while those around him were busy accusing, judging, and stringing up strife he paused everything and mentally got alone with God.

While the trouble surrounded him and the words that would normally inwardly swirl in his mind came towards him. He blocked them out by filling the space with talking to God. Can you imagine it? The world is crashing in but instead of going to a dark place you travel with the King to a place He had prepared for you. You fail to even recognize the trouble as problems because the problem solver has filled your Mind. You are mentally alone with the King and your physical face is showing the condition of your soul and mind. Now that is some joy this world can’t take away!

Speaking from experience the dark place is never worth it even when well deserved but the joy found in the “Mountain Top moments” that we are alone with God is worth the fight. We have to mentally decide which door we gain access to.. the door that says “Pray without ceasing” or the door that says “grumble internally without ceasing” Very few make it out of door number 2 alive and if they do they are hanging on by a thread of pray from some beautiful friend or family member.

Keep fighting through by sending up unceasing prayers of Praise and thanksgiving even when your emotions want to complain. Be Loving, Be Blessed, Be joyful, and most of all Be the Light by Being Prayerful!!!

  29. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

We have to constantly keep up with our spirits and feed them to be healthy! I pray this day that we are praying and reading daily to stay good with God!

  30. Then they suborned men, which said, We have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.

  31. 4 But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.

Giving of yourself is a choice. We must all decide daily what we give ourselves to. Decide with discipline in line with His Word; decide through prayer with sensitivity to the Spirit.

  32. Acts 6

6:7 So the Word of God spread. The number of disciples in Jerusalem increased rapidly, and a large number of priests became obedient to the faith.

After Peter’s first sermon some 3,000 people responded to the Gospel and trusted Jesus as Saviour.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  33. 14 For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and change the customs which Moses delivered us.
Without God’s power, humans say things that make no sense not even for their own selves first of all Moises did not deliver them from nothing. God used Moises to take them out of bondage they were a free Nation but at this time they already paying taxes to the Romans. they disobeyed God’s commandments and lost the land again without God’s law it’s impossible for men to rule this world. The apostle Pual explains God’s law in the book of Romans. We need God’s Spirit to judge and to be judged. But Jesus said judge none rather pray for them leading them to salvation in Christ.

  34. Find your place. Every one has a spot, a gifting, something to offer to the work of the advancement of the Kingdom. Yes even serving tables, and or cleaning is working towards the advancement of the Kingdom. It serves to put people where they are called to minister in. When all things are in order and in place, things glow better.

  35. 12 And they stirred up the people, and the elders, and the scribes, and came upon him, and caught him, and brought him to the council,

13 And set up false witnesses, which said, This man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against this holy place, and the law:

The enemy will use the device of deception and lies to fool you and the people around you in order to cause divisions among people around you.

We need to stay unified because the enemy knows the church is weak when not unified.

  36. 15 And all that sat in the council, looking stedfastly on him, saw his face as it had been the face of an angel.

When you make that connection with God, your appearance changes. People will be able to see the change God makes in your life. Only by his power can we push through the barriers of life. There is still power in the name of Jesus.

  37. “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.”
    ‭‭Acts‬ ‭6:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

All working together for the kingdom of GOD is works.
    GROWTH = Work
We need one another for His Kingdom, for such a time as this.

“I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.”
    ‭‭John‬ ‭9:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

  38. Acts 6:11 MSG “So in secret they bribed men to lie: “We heard him cursing Moses and God.” Some versions say “secretly instigated“, “secretly persuaded”, “secretly induced”, “persuaded some men to lie” and “spread a vicious rumor”. Ephesians 5:6-17 ESV “Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. Therefore do not become partners with them; for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light (for the fruit of light is found in all that is good and right and true), and try to discern what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to speak of the things that they do in secret. But when anything is exposed by the light, it becomes visible, for anything that becomes visible is light. Therefore it says, “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.” Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.”

  39. 7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

  40. 5 And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:
6 Whom they set before the apostles: and when they had prayed, they laid their hands on them.
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.
8 And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

The people that are faithful are the people that are powerful, the people that are faithful are also the people who do great miracles, everyone doesnt have to be someone to do great miracles, anyone can do miracles as long as you have faith for the miracle you want to happen.

  41. Acts 6:8 (KJV)  And Stephen, full of faith and power, did great wonders and miracles among the people.

Matthew 17:20 (KJV)  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.
