Read Proverbs Chapter 29

James 1

James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;

Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:

10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

16 Do not err, my beloved brethren.

17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:

24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

  1. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

  2. 3 Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4 But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

Often temptations can be from wanting more, which can be from our “old man” sin nature. Keeping our eyes on the afterlife can help us steer away from present fulfillment of our wants. Patience maybe one of the most challenging virtues because it goes against our natural tendencies, however the more relationship we seek with Jesus, the less challenging it may become.

  3. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

    Hallelujah!
We should be hearer and doers of The Word Of God and we shall be blessed.
    Thank You Jesus!

  4. Verses 16-21 MSG “So, my very dear friends, don’t get thrown off course. Every desirable and beneficial gift comes out of heaven. The gifts are rivers of light cascading down from the Father of Light. There is nothing deceitful in God, nothing two-faced, nothing fickle. He brought us to life using the true Word, showing us off as the crown of all his creatures. Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life.” Once again the word “fickle”: changing frequently, especially as regards one’s loyalties, interests, or affection. We have to get rid of or trash all that cancerous evil in the garbage and allow God to throw it away! Same verses in AMP “Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters. Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow [d]cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. It was of His own will that He gave us birth [as His children] by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creatures [a prime example of what He created to be set apart to Himself—sanctified, made holy for His divine purposes]. Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]; for the [resentful, deep-seated] anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God [that standard of behavior which He requires from us]. So get rid of all uncleanness and [e]all that remains of wickedness, and with a humble spirit receive the word [of God] which is implanted [actually rooted in your heart], which is able to save your souls.” I encourage everyone to read our Proverb for today as we need to see what God is doing….be GREATER!

  5. 3. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

    4. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing. NLT

    Matthew 10:22
“…but he that endureth to the end shall be saved.” KJV

  6. James 1: 10-11 But the rich,in that he is made low ,because as the flower of grass he shall pass away.
    (11) For the sun is no sooner rising with a burning heat, but it without the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth, so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
    Riches and Testing
However ,the rich person needs to beware, because one’s status here on earth is not an indication of one’s position for eternity, for it may be the opposite.
Don’t rob God, pay your titles and offerings.
    Everything belongs to God.

  7. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

The shadow of turning is referencing when an object is facing away from the Sun and a shadow is cast, variableness is loosely translated from changing distance, so essentially the scripture is saying that God does not change his distance between us and is never facing away from us. I found that to be true in many occasions especially whenever I felt like it wasn’t, God was right there keeping me strong showing me his glory and mercy

  8. James 1:2-3
[2]Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
[3]For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.

Keep your faith and trust in God
God is good all the time

  9. 26 if any men among you seem to be religious and brittle
Not his tongue, but deceive his own heart this man’s religion is vain.
    👉🏼 Something to think about.

  10. GREATER
    THE BIRTH OF DECEPTION

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

What exactly does deception look like? The apostle James offers us clear understanding into deception in this chapter. Defining the fruit of deception being one who hears the WORD of GOD but does not act on, obey or fear it.

James also gives us insight into the genesis, origin or birth of deception in verse:

26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.

A “know it all”, a gossip and a liar are all deceived. They can sing in the choir, they can play instruments on the platform, they can lead a service, teach a class and yes even preach the gospel.

    BUT

If they are always talking about someone or something they dont agree with, there is deception. We must be prayerful about who we listen to. They could speak from a heart of deception.

We need to listen to their words and watch their response to HIS WORD. This is how we can identirfy ourselves or a brother or sister in deception.

    iRepent

    iLive

iSee a REVIVAL and HARVEST building that is GREATER than anything I have ever seen coming to The POFW.

  11. 21-22 NLT “ “So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls. But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.
    ‭‭
The Word of GOD teaches us how to live our life for Christ. What to do or not do, how to think and act. Once we hear the Word we are accountable. We should live in harmony with the Bible and let the Holy Spirit guide your path.

  12. James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

    2 Peter 1:6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience, and to patience godliness;

The victory over our trials help us grow spiritually, God can use those who have been bruised the most.

  13. 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:

20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.

21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.

We have to watch what we do, we are vessels of God. We have to be Leaders at all times. Yes, we make mistakes but we have to be strong in the word and not be carnal. We can’t just read the word we have to know the word of God.

  14. I love POFW LIVE JESUS GIVE JESUS2 GREATER! 5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. Definition of upbraideth is to find fault with or reproach severely; censure: The military tribunal upbraided the soldier for his cowardice. Praise God in the highest!

  15. Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

18 Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.

God cannot give a bad gift. He does not tempt us but delivers us from temptation. Glory to God

  16. “He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Out of everything He created, we are created in the image of Him! Each and everyone of us are called, loved, and chosen by Him.

Don’t allow anyone or anything to deceive you to believing you are less than.

  17. NASB – 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or [p]shifting shadow. 18 In the exercise of His will He gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be [q]a kind of first fruits [r]among His creatures.

Did you ever consider yourself firstfruits? This rendition says that God gave us birth by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits among His creatures. Firstfruits is what is given back to God – 10% of what He has blessed us with. So if we being firstfruits, we must give of ourselves back to the service of the Kingdom. We cannot do this begrudgingly, but with joy as we are serving the Creator!

  18. “Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭1:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Sin brings pleasure for only a season and in the end it brings death. Sin will always take you farther than you want to go and make you stay longer than you intended to stay. The enemy hasn’t changed his plan to bring death upon us but thankfully our Father has come to bring us life.

  19. The Kingdom of Heaven is GREATER
2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations

You ever read a scripture and thought…wow, that’s pretty hard to do…well, this is one them scriptures. I reckon it’s possible, just difficult

  20. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

God’s great gifts. to receive guidance about every aspect of your life. to exhibit a continual attitude of dependency and trust in the Lord. to be in constant communication. Prayer without action it’s just noise.

  21. The Living bible
    vs-26
Anyone who says he is a Christian but doesn’t control his sharp tongue is just fooling himself , and his religion isn’t worth much.

If you consider yourself a faithful follower of God you will have self control concerning the tongue. It is good to think your self faithful. But what matters is how faithful you are,how you live, and controlling your TONGUE!!!!

  22. “Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭1:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

    Hallelujah 🙌

How many times can one save himself from trouble simply by keeping your mouth shut and by m. y. o.b!!!

    The book of proverbs has a way speaking to teach everyone. This is the scripture that comes to mind;

“Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: And he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.”
    ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭17:28‬ ‭KJV‬‬

The less one stays and keeps himself. Will be blessed and not stressed!

  23. James 1:21 (NLT)
“So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the Word God has planted in your hearts, for It has the Power to Save your soul.”

“God’s Word Has Power to Save Us!”
When we Accept the Word of God and allow It to wash and cleanse us from the filth and evil of our lives, It will Save Us.

    Thank You JESUS!

  24. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

Our hearts must be soft and open to allow his word to shape and mold us. We must let it change us into being what he has called us to be- showing the fruits of the Spirit.

  25. 22But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves.

Yes we must listen to the Word but also obey the Word. Many want to hear the Word, but then say, “I can’t obey the Word”. They believe it’s to hard to obey, but it’s simple. By listening or reading the Word daily it gets easier to obey the Word.

  26. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

It is a lie to say that we are Christians and there be no evidence of CHRIST IN US….There has to be evidence, there is no getting around it…..either we are filled or we aren’t….there is no gray , it’s black or white, it’s dark or light, sin or righteous

  27. James 1:2-3
[2]Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.
[3]For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow.
    ********************
I have been put through the fire for the last 3 weeks. Each day has been a test of endurance and growing. I’ve had to start each day before getting out of bed praying that my words are kind and that I am patience with each test I am going through. I have a tenacity to take care of things, get it done my way instead of waiting on the Lord. But Praise the Lord, He has showed me over and over how He loves and takes care of each need. Everything is falling into place at the perfect time. He has brought the right people in to help, the ones that I thought would didn’t and the ones I thought wouldn’t did. It was His doing and His timing. He has answered prayers over and over in His way not mine. Praise God, He has put joy in my heart and a stronger faith in my soul. Thank you Jesus for helping me endure to the end.

  28. 12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:

14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed

God does not tempt us but we are tempted by our own desires. We must die daily to our ungodly desires. We must fill our minds with the word of God, worshipful songs, prayer and praise.

  29. Greater
    Asking In Faith Without Wavering

“ Asking in faith without wavering “

The only limitation placed on the wisdom prayer is stable faith. ( prayer life )
Faith takes over when we believe His Kingdom is coming, though many times it seems to be far away.

  30. 10 But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

11 For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.

Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, let not mighty man glory in his might, nor let the rich man glory in his riches, but let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows me. That I am the Lord, exercising lovingkindness judgment, and righteousness in the earth for in these things I delight. Says the Lord.

    A.L.M.A.S.

  31. James 1

22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

We need to not just talk the talk, but walk the walk. We need to be righteous, and fervently as Pastor said in church this evening. Be passionate and evict sin out of our lifes.
Thank you Jesus for this day.

  32. 26 If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

Be careful little lips what you say….

Out of the abundance of the heart , the mouth speaks…

  33. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

Hear and Do. We decieve ourselves by not acting on the principles of the word of God. We are robbing ourselves of blessings too.

  34. 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.

Don’t allow temptation to rule you. God has given us the power to overcome all temptation. The enemy wants you to believe that we will always fall into temptation, but that’s not so. Our strength is in God and he will guide us the right way.

  35. “Consider it nothing but joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you fall into various trials.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭AMP‬‬

There is a reason for everything. We should not be afraid or get angry with the test and trials that come our way. God know why we go through. We must keep the faith and believe that if god is for us who can be against us.

  36. “He chose to give birth to us by giving us his true word. And we, out of all creation, became his prized possession.”
    ‭‭James‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

We are all God’s prized possessions. No matter what we’ve done, how we’ve acted in our lifetime, God still sees us as a prize worth giving His life for. Thank You Jesus for Your unconditional love.

  37. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

  38. Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
    James 1:2‭-‬4 NLT

    https://bible.com/bible/116/jas.1.2-4.NLT

Thank You Lord, for the trials we go through. It strengthens us, prepares us for the next stage in life, helps us gain wisdom. Lord, even in the trials You are so faithful

  39. 22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.

We only hurt ourselves when we hear the Word but don’t apply it or become “doers of the word.” Seek ye first the Kingdom and DO His greater works with greater passion amd fervency!

  40. ‘Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. ‘

    James 1:14-15
Crazy to think how we assume temptation often comes from the devil James says it comes from our own desires. Think about it though Satan tempted Jesus in the garden but would he really have been tempted if he wasn’t hungry…Were only tempted by our fleshly desires so when were tempted and we overcome praise God because he’s watching you and there’s an anointing that is growing in your life for every temptation you overcome
